Franklin Templeton's New ETFs Turn Stock Dividends Into Bitcoin—What's the Catch? | FMP Stock News
|
Original source text
Wall Street's appetite for ETFs shows no signs of slowing. With less than two months left in 2026, new fund launches have already eclipsed last year's record. According to ETF Tracker, 1,159 ETFs had launched through Oct. 20, surpassing the 1,143 introduced in all of 2025. The U.S. market now has more than 5,270 ETFs. And while thematic ETFs have dominated much of the narrative, a new breed of funds is blurring the line between traditional stock investing and cryptocurrency exposure. Get IBIT alerts: Global asset manager Franklin Templeton is among the firms exploring this new approach. On June 18, the company filed a registration with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for two funds designed to reinvest stock dividends into Bitcoin (BTC) exposure. Just over four months later, on Oct. 29, the Franklin U.S. Equity Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF NASDAQ: FBEQ and the Franklin U.S. Innovation Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF NASDAQ: FIBT began trading. The hybrid structure—known as Bitcoin DRIP ETFs—reflects a broader shift toward investment products that bridge traditional equities and digital assets. But unlike spot Bitcoin ETFs such as the iShares Bitcoin Trust NASDAQ: IBIT, these funds combine conventional equity portfolios with a strategy that systematically directs stock dividends toward Bitcoin exposure. That approach comes with a trade-off. Instead of reinvesting dividends into additional equity exposure, investors gain exposure to a potentially higher-return but substantially more volatile asset. Whether the strategy makes sense depends on the underlying stock portfolio, the fund's Bitcoin allocation rules, and an investor's appetite for risk. FBEQ: Large Cap Exposure With a Side of CryptoFranklin U.S. Equity Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF Today FBEQ Franklin U.S. Equity Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF $24.77 +0.11 (+0.45%) As of 11:33 AM Eastern $24.63▼ $25.37$4.93 million According to the SEC prospectus, the Franklin U.S. Equity Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF seeks to provide investment results that closely correspond, before fees and expenses, to the performance of the rules-based VettaFi U.S. Large-Cap 500 Bitcoin DRIP Index. With an expense ratio of just 0.09%, the passively managed fund provides exposure to approximately 500 of the largest U.S. companies, as well as Bitcoin. Reflecting its recent launch, FBEQ has approximately $4.9 million in net assets under management (AUM). Its equity portfolio resembles those of other market-cap-weighted large-cap funds, such as the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust NYSEARCA: SPY and the Vanguard 500 Index Fund ETF NYSEARCA: VOO, but with important differences in its investment strategy and weighting rules. At inception, the index FBEQ tracks allocated 95% to equities and 5% to Bitcoin. Under normal market conditions, the fund invests at least 80% of its net assets in securities included in the underlying index and qualifying Bitcoin-related investments intended to replicate its exposure. To limit concentration risk, any equity position is capped at a 20% weighting. Additionally, the combined weighting of holdings exceeding 5% cannot surpass 40% of the index. The fund's defining feature is how it builds its Bitcoin allocation by systematically reinvesting dividends from its equity holdings into cryptocurrency exposure rather than additional shares of those stocks. That exposure can come via Bitcoin-related investments, including BTC-backed ETPs, options and futures contracts that reference Bitcoin or Bitcoin ETPs, and depositary receipts representing an ownership interest in Bitcoin. Additionally, the fund may seek to achieve Bitcoin exposure through a wholly-owned subsidiary established in the Cayman Islands. In order to maintain Bitcoin as a secondary allocation, FBEQ rebalances quarterly. If Bitcoin exposure exceeds 5%, it will be rebalanced to 4.5% for the ensuing quarter. If exposure is 5% or below, the allocation remains the same. FIBT: Nasdaq Growth Stocks Meet Bitcoin ExposureFranklin US Innovation Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF Today FIBT Franklin US Innovation Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF $23.38 +0.00 (+0.02%) As of 11/2/2026 $4.68 million Franklin Templeton's other Bitcoin DRIP ETF, FIBT, is more growth-focused. It attempts to replicate the results of the VettaFi U.S. Innovation 100 Bitcoin DRIP Index, which is akin to the Invesco QQQ Trust Series 1 NASDAQ: QQQ in that it tracks the 100 largest non-financial companies on the Nasdaq. Similar to FBEQ, FIBT had 95% exposure to equities and 5% exposure to Bitcoin at the time of its inception. But given its slant toward innovation, its top holdings are more concentrated than FBEQ. For example, as of Oct. 30, FIBT’s top three holdings are Apple NASDAQ: AAPL at 10.2%, NVIDIA NASDAQ: NVDA at 9.6%, and Microsoft NASDAQ: MSFT at 7.7%. That concentration gives FIBT a different risk profile. Its performance is more heavily influenced by large-cap technology and growth stocks, which can experience significant swings when earnings expectations, interest rates, or investor sentiment change. Paired with Bitcoin, that exposure could benefit from rallies in both markets but also leave investors vulnerable when both decline. Like FBEQ, FIBT invests at least 80% of its net assets in underlying index securities and qualifying Bitcoin-related investments. It also follows the same Bitcoin allocation limits and quarterly rebalancing strategy. FIBT's expense ratio of 0.19% is slightly higher than FBEQ's 0.09%, while its net AUM of approximately $4.7 million are slightly lower. Are Bitcoin DRIP ETFs Worth the Dividend Trade-Off?For investors, the appeal of Franklin Templeton's new ETFs hinges on a fundamental trade-off: whether the potential upside from Bitcoin outweighs the benefits of traditional dividend reinvestment. That question is especially relevant given Bitcoin's recent volatility. As of Nov. 2, the cryptocurrency was trading approximately 38.5% below its October 2025 record closing price, as the digital asset market continues to grapple with its fourth crypto winter. Although the funds' allocation limits help contain Bitcoin exposure, they cannot eliminate the risk of losses. For investors with higher risk tolerances and longer investment horizons, Franklin Templeton's new ETFs offer a way to maintain U.S. equity exposure while systematically accumulating Bitcoin. More cautious investors may prefer to monitor the funds' performance and trading activity as their track records develop. In either case, investors should weigh the convenience of an automated strategy against the additional volatility and opportunity cost of redirecting dividends away from equities. By Thomas Richmond · Updated Nov 3, 4:31pm ET · Published Nov 3, 2:44pm ET Live UpdatesNewest first That wraps up our initial coverage of Super Micro’s Q1 results. Thank you for stopping by! Super Micro is trading at $33.26 after hours (as of 4:08 PM ET), up 5.96% from today's $31.39 close, as the market digests the Q1 beat and the raised FY2027 revenue outlook of $72 billion to $82 billion. That lifts the stock back above its 200-day average of $32.67. Resistance sits at $36.52 and $37.45, and the 50-day average at $38.02 is the level a lasting rally has to reclaim. $996Macross 10 tracked filers 7 added · 1 trimmed · 1 new Two Sigma Investments LLC$287M+9.8%Renaissance Technologies LLC$199M+113%Point72 Asset Management LP$139M+148%Marshall Wace LLP$135M—D. That positioning is about 45 days stale and skews toward fast-moving multi-strategy funds, the kind that can reverse well before the next filing shows it. Super Micro Computer (SMCI) just reported Q1 earnings, with shares initially up 6% following the report. With shares trading at roughly 9x earnings, the stock carries a steep valuation discount. Strong revenue, positive cash flow, and a reassuring update on the Board review could help restore confidence. Bottom Line: After a 28% monthly selloff, investors want proof that margins, execution, and governance are moving in the right direction. This article is updated throughout the trading day. Check back for more. Full CoverageThe story so far Super Micro Computer (NASDAQ:SMCI | SMCI Price Prediction) is expected to report fiscal first-quarter 2027 results at 4:05 PM ET tonight. This is the first check on its $65.0-$72.0 billion full-year sales outlook, and the stock heads into it after a sharp monthly decline. Record Orders Meet a Margin Reset Last quarter, non-GAAP EPS came in at $1.70, well ahead of the $0.96 consensus. Revenue of $11.12B missed the $11.56B estimate. Management blamed customer-side delays in power, cooling, and networking and described the miss as a timing issue. Non-GAAP gross margin rose to 17.6% from 10.1% in Q3. Management credited about 75% of that gain to a better mix, including contracts that were pushed into later quarters. The rest came from lower tariff costs and smaller inventory reserves, and management called the reserve benefit nonrecurring. Operating cash flow became positive at $747 million after a $6.6 billion outflow the quarter before. Shares trade at $31.38, down 39.61% over the past year. SMCI’s Consensus Estimates Run Ahead of Guidance Metric Q1 FY2027 Estimate YoY Change FY2027 Estimate FY2028 Estimate Revenue $16.26B +223.8% $70.27B $81.69B EPS (Normalized) $1.2346 +252.7% $4.7471 $5.6789 Consensus EPS sits above the company’s $1.01 to $1.10 non-GAAP guidance. Analysts made 12 upward revisions in the past week. They appear to be counting on last quarter’s deferred revenue landing now. The FY2028 consensus moves close to the $80 billion level that the CEO said could require more cash. What to Watch Tonight: Margins, Backlog Conversion, and Cash Here are some of the top items to watch in SMCI’s Q1 earnings tonight: Margin strength: Tonight, analysts will be watching how much of the enterprise mix shift holds up against the forecast of 10.4% to 10.8% gross margin. SMCI’s CEO has said DCBBS, the company’s full data center offering, can reach 20% of gross profit, so any progress update matters. Backlog conversion: Super Micro booked more than $60 billion in new orders during Q4, and about 70% of that was all AI. With NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA), it started shipping NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 racks on September 23. Investors will watch whether delayed Q4 shipments showed up in this quarter’s sales. Working capital: The cash conversion cycle (the number of days it takes to build and sell inventory to turn it back into cash) stretched to 149 days from 106 days. Inventory reached $12.9 billion. According to the CFO, “we expect the cash conversion cycle to normalize based on terms that we have in our current backlog.” Governance: On the Board review, the CFO said: “We expect to provide an update shortly.” If that update comes tonight, it could change the story as much as the quarterly numbers. Nvidia vs. SK Hynix: Comparing Quarterly Revenue Trajectories | FMP Stock News
|
Original source text
Nvidia: Scaling Quarterly Revenue RapidlyNvidia (NVDA +2.29%) primarily generates revenue by designing and selling advanced graphics processing units (GPUs), networking interconnect solutions, and accelerated computational platforms for data centers, personal computer gaming systems, enterprise professional visualization workstations, autonomous automotive applications, and cloud gaming subscription services. It recently agreed to supply Amazon-owned AWS with additional graphics processing units and expanded its software partnership with Meta Platforms, while simultaneously introducing new hardware reference architectures intended to reduce initial infrastructure deployment time for its commercial enterprise customers. SK Hynix: Expanding Memory Semiconductor RevenueSK Hynix (SKHY +2.08%) primarily generates revenue by designing, manufacturing, and selling a wide variety of advanced memory semiconductors, including dynamic random-access memory and diverse flash memory products with specialized configurations tailored to meet application-specific customer needs across global technology markets. It recently showcased its new tenth-generation flash memory technology and officially commenced shipments of its latest high-bandwidth memory products to customers, while separately navigating a suspended initial public offering for its United States memory subsidiary, Solidigm, and defending against an ongoing antitrust class action lawsuit. Why Revenue Matters for InvestorsRevenue helps investors evaluate the total volume of products and services a company sells before deducting its operating costs, taxes, and other financial expenses. This metric reveals whether an organization is successfully attracting customers and growing its overall business volume over time. Nvidia vs. SK Hynix Revenue over the last 8 quarters. SK Hynix's figures are converted from South Korean won to U.S. dollars. Data as of Nov. 2, 2026. Foolish TakeBoth Nvidia and SK Hynix operate in key segments of the semiconductor industry, with the former's GPUs underpinning the artificial intelligence boom, while the latter's focus on advanced memory solutions now coming into the limelight. Nvidia's sales have grown spectacularly every quarter for the last two years, illustrating its central role in enabling AI systems, with businesses and governments around the world buying its GPUs. This trend is expected to continue. Nvidia forecasted sales of about $108 billion in its fiscal third quarter. As the above chart shows, SK Hynix's revenue took off in a big way just this year. The South Korean company experienced sharp percentage growth acceleration driven by soaring demand and high average selling prices for its high-bandwidth memory (HBM), which is critical for AI processors. SK Hynix is working to produce more HBM to meet customer needs, although that is expected to cause prices to fall eventually. This has made Wall Street cautious in terms of buying SK Hynix stock, with shares having fallen from its 52-week high of $199.87. BAC INVESTOR ALERT: Bank of America Corporation Investors with Substantial Losses Have Opportunity to Lead the BAC Securities Class Action | FMP Stock News
|
Original source text
, /PRNewswire/ -- On October 14, 2026, Senator Elizabeth Warren (Ranking Member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee) issued a statement reacting to Bank of America's (NYSE: BAC) resolution of serious enforcement actions, calling it a "slap on the wrist" fine considering the seriousness of the bank's violations. On October 29, 2026, CNBC reported that the Senator is urging the Justice Department to launch a criminal investigation into the bank and its executives after the bank admitted it willfully violated federal anti-money-laundering laws. The report also said Senator Warren demanded that the Department say by November 12 whether it has already investigated the conduct and, if not, whether it plans to. The latest news follows the filing of a securities class action lawsuit and supports national securities litigation law firm Hagens Berman's continuing investigation into legal claims that, as a result of its admissions and other conduct, Bank of America (and certain senior executives) also violated the federal securities laws. The firm urges investors with substantial losses to submit their trading information. Class Period: Aug. 1, 2025 – Oct. 13, 2026Lead Plaintiff Deadline: Dec. 15, 2026Visit: www.hbsslaw.com/bac Contact Email: [email protected] Direct Firm Phone: 844-916-0895Case Overview & Summary of Allegations The securities class action lawsuit alleges that throughout the Class Period, Defendants made false and/or misleading statements and failed to disclose material adverse facts regarding Bank of America's compliance controls and regulatory risk exposure. Specifically, Defendants failed to disclose that: Deficient AML & BSA Compliance Controls: Bank of America maintained deficient Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) monitoring systems, underresourcing compliance functions in favor of revenue generation.Underreported Suspicious Transactions: The Bank failed to detect, track, or report over $5 billion in suspicious transactions to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), including over $1 billion tied to high-risk illicit finance.Regulatory & Financial Exposure: As a result of these failures, Bank of America faced immense regulatory enforcement actions and multi-billion-dollar penalties, making its prior statements regarding regulatory compliance, risk management, and internal controls materially false and misleading. The Disclosure & Market Impact On October 13, 2026, the U.S. Department of the Treasury, FinCEN, and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) announced landmark enforcement actions requiring Bank of America to pay over $1.2 billion in penalties for widespread BSA/AML failures and backlog issues. Following this disclosure, Bank of America's stock price fell sharply by over 4.8%, closing at $51.39 per share on October 14, 2026, wiping out billions of dollars in market value and causing substantial damages to shareholders. And as always, there will be a traditional “hot rod” build and a modern “import” vehicle. On this occasion, the Meguiar’s team is delighted to be working with two long-term partners to provide mouthwatering attractions for all SEMA visitors to enjoy. Both cars will be unveiled during the Meguiar’s booth Press Conference at 11:30AM on Tuesday morning when the builders will speak about their work . TJ HUNT'S ASTON MARTIN VANTAGE GT3 Regular SEMA attendees will undoubtedly remember that TJ’s Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo unveiled in the Meguiar’s booth last year was widely acknowledged among the best-in-show. It was born from his fascination with IMSA GT3 racing, and how the million-dollar race cars were all based on production vehicles. He loved the transformation the cars underwent to be competitive, with aggressive aerodynamic components and race-specific engineering. TJ dreamed of bring his own GT3 concept to life many years ago. Eventually, he fulfilled that ambition with his first conversion, a Ferrari 458 GT3 built in 2020. He successfully transformed the street car exterior into something that resembled a factory-built GT3 race car while maintaining the original interior, comfort and functionality. During that process, TJ discovered how challenging it could be to create an authentic conversion, since genuine GT3 components aren't typically available, and often require bodywork sourced from damaged or retired competition cars. Each piece then has to be adapted to fit the street car, but the end result is something truly special. After the 458 project sparked his passion, TJ has pursued the same dream throughout his incredibly successful YouTube career. The next car would be a 2022 BMW M4 GT3 conversion, which was revealed in the Meguiar's booth at SEMA 2023. And last year, he followed it up with the 2017 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo, which was again unveiled by Meguiar's. For 2026, TJ was keen to continue that tradition, and this time he chose a 2013 Aston Martin Vantage GT3. “I've always loved the Vantage styling, and the GT3 race car takes that design to an entirely different level,” TJ said. “We were able to source a modified version of the GT3 body kit, so we decided to accept the challenge of transforming a street car into something inspired by its factory racing counterpart. “What excites me most about these projects is that there really isn't a blueprint to follow,” he continued. “These aren't conventional aftermarket builds where you simply order parts and bolt everything together. Each GT3 conversion comes with its own challenges. They require custom fabrication and a great deal of problem-solving, which makes the finished product even more rewarding.” To make the project possible, TJ secured a modified version of the Aston Martin Racing GT3 body kit. It included key components such as the deep front spoiler, vented hood, side skirts, rear diffuser, rear wing and more. Having secured and fitted the precious composites, TJ made the totally unexpected decision to paint the sports car in Porsche Macadamia Metallic from the Paint to Sample program. “I was tempted to choose British Racing Green for the car but I wanted this project to take a different direction, so I went with Macadamia from Porsche,” he explained. “I was drawn to its elegance and understated sophistication. It has a uniquely timeless, refined character that I felt would allow the build to stand apart from my previous cars while maintaining the same level of craftsmanship and attention to detail.” We encourage everybody attending SEMA 2026 to visit Meguiar’s and see for themselves the unique paintwork glittering under the specialized booth lighting. We think everybody will agree, the result is stunning. With its hand-built, naturally aspirated 4.7-liter V8 lurking under the vented hood, TJ opted to fit GT4-spec headers and exhaust system from VelocityAP in British Columbia. The mandrel-bent pipes are manufactured from aerospace-grade 304 austenitic stainless steel and weigh 66 lb less than the stock parts. The same company also provided its clutch package for the six-speed manual transmission. To complete the GT3 conversion, TJ and his team fitted a set of Nitron R1 coilovers as well as 20” HRE R101 Lightweight wheels and Nitto NT01 tires. And to underscore the racing pedigree, the Vantage GT3 has an AP Racing Air Jack system, allowing the car to be raised in an instant by simply connecting an air line. “This year's build continues a tradition that's become really special to me: bringing these one-of-a-kind GT3-inspired creations to life. and unveiling them alongside Meguiar's at SEMA,” TJ concluded. TECH SPEC 2013 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Modified AMR GT3 body kit painted Porsche PTS Macadamia Metallic, Velocity Automotive Performance GT4 headers, exhaust system and clutch package, Nitron R1 coilovers, AP Racing Air Jack system, 20x10” front, 20x12” rear HRE R101 Lightweight wheels, 285/35 R20 and 315/30 R20 rear Nitto NT01 tires FAT FENDER GARAGE FORD F-100 The second vehicle to be unveiled in the Meguiar’s booth will be the 1956 Ford F-100 GT/FX owned by Tony Peressini and built by Fat Fender Garage (FFG) in Gilbert, AZ. It’s a true performance truck, five years in the making and costing more than $1 million! Tony bought the F-100 to create his dream project, and Jason Noel at FFG began by dropping the cab onto an FF1 Performance Coilover Chassis to ensure the 725hp Whipple supercharged Gen 3 Ford 5.0L V8 Coyote engine with ten-speed auto trans could get the power to the ground. Six-piston Wilwood front brakes, 20” HRE wheels and 315/35 Toyo rear tires put the driver in charge. The exterior features include a pancaked roof and hood, 2” sectioned cab, wider fenders, custom running boards, Mustang GT350 rear diffuser, unique cargo bed and flush-mounted glass. Somehow FFG kept the stock grille and used Cerakote on the stainless steel bumpers and trim. It’s all wrapped in a champagne paint with racing stripe, while the black leather interior continues the sporty theme. For full details and tech spec on the FFG Ford F-100 GT/FX, please visit HERE. MEGUIAR’S OUTDOOR BOOTH #80030 Meguiar’s also has Outdoor Booth # 80030, which will showcase the new 2027 product range, have goodies to giveaway, and a collection of four very special vehicles making their SEMA debuts. Nokia vs. Verizon: A Contrast in Revenue Scale and Seasonality | FMP Stock News
|
Original source text
Nokia: Seasonal Cycles and Periodic Revenue PeaksNokia Oyj (NOK +2.17%) earns its revenue by supplying extensive network infrastructure, optical routing equipment, and comprehensive cloud services to communications service providers and digital enterprises globally. Between August and October 2026, it completed the planned sale of its fixed wireless access business and entered a separate agreement to develop satellite communications capabilities.Verizon: High Base Volume and Consistent RevenueVerizon Communications (VZ +0.42%) generates its revenue primarily by delivering wireless connectivity, high-speed internet access, and specialized business networking solutions to diverse consumer and enterprise customers. Between August and October 2026, it launched a joint venture to eliminate mobile coverage dead zones and finalized the sale of a wireless carrier unit. Why Revenue Matters for InvestorsRevenue represents the total cash brought into a business before any operating expenses are deducted. This metric helps investors measure a company's overall size, market footprint, and long-term trajectory. Nokia Oyj vs. Verizon Communications Revenue over the last 8 quarters. Nokia Oyj's figures are converted from euros to U.S. dollars. Data as of Nov. 2, 2026. Foolish TakeNokia and Verizon are two giants of the telecommunications industry, although both are looking toward capitalizing on the artificial intelligence boom. This could prove transformative to their revenue growth trajectories in time. Verizon's AI Connect offering is an integrated suite of network infrastructure, connectivity, and data center solutions launched by Verizon Business to help enterprises deploy and scale artificial intelligence workloads. Nokia formed a partnership with AI giant Nvidia to support the development of AI radio access network (AI-RAN) technology. AI-RAN differs from today's 5G network in that artificial intelligence transforms it from a passive data pipe into one where AI intelligently manages traffic for improved speed, coverage, and capacity. How these AI endeavors pan out will reflect in revenue totals eventually, if they prove successful. For now, Verizon's income trajectory reflects the stable sales growth inherent in its cellphone service subscriptions, while Nokia’s represents cyclical technology spending. The revenue spikes in Nokia's fourth quarter reflect the use-it-or-lose-it IT spending by its customers, who have to use up their budgets before the end of each calendar year. Robert Izquierdo has positions in Nvidia and Verizon Communications. The Motley Fool has positions in and recommends Nvidia. The Motley Fool recommends Verizon Communications. Home Depot Has Raised Its Dividend 17 Straight Years. Here's What $10,000 Invested Pays Annually. | FMP Stock News
|
Original source text
Home Depot (HD -2.20%), the largest home improvement retailer in North America, has raised its dividend annually for 17 consecutive years. It maintained that streak-- which started at the tail end of the Great Recession -- through the COVID-19 recession in 2020, the economic downturn in 2022, and the Fed's aggressive interest rate hikes from 2022 to 2023.If you had invested $10,000 in Home Depot 17 years ago, your investment would have grown to $121,000 and be paying out $3,300 in annual dividends. If you invest $10,000 today at its forward yield of 2.73%, you would start collecting about $273 in annual dividends. Image source: Getty Images. What near-term challenges does Home Depot face? Home Depot operates 2,364 retail stores and 1,340 SRS Distribution locations (acquired in 2024) across the U.S., U.S. territories, Canada, and Mexico. It typically generates more than 90% of its revenue from the U.S. market. As a home improvement retailer, Home Depot's business thrives when interest rates are low, and the housing market is expanding. From fiscal 2021 to fiscal 2025 (which ended in Feb. 2025), its comps growth cooled off as its gross and operating margins declined. Metric FY 2021 FY 2022 FY 2023 FY 2024 FY 2025 Comps Growth 11.4% 3.1% (3.2%) (1.8%) 0.3% Gross Margin 33.6% 33.5% 33.4% 33.4% 33.4% Operating Margin 15.2% 15.3% 14.2% 13.5% 13.1%* Data source: Home Depot. *Adjusted for its acquisitions of SRS and other smaller companies. That pressure can be attributed to the housing market's post-pandemic slowdown, the Fed's 11 consecutive rate hikes in 2022 and 2023, and persistent inflation. For fiscal 2026, Home Depot expects its comps to rise 0%-2%, its adjusted operating margin to dip to 12.8%-13%, and its adjusted EPS to grow 0%-4%. That outlook suggests its business is gradually stabilizing, even as high mortgage rates chill the housing market. HD Home Depot$333.66-$7.49 (-2.20%) NYSE · As of 4:00 PM ET 11/03/26 Will Home Depot keep raising its dividends? Over the past 12 months, Home Depot spent just 61% of its free cash flow (FCF) and 65% of its earnings per share (EPS) on its dividends. For fiscal 2026, analysts expect its EPS to grow 2% to $15.02, easily covering its forward dividend of $9.32 per share. At $332 per share, Home Depot's stock still looks reasonably valued at 22 times this year's earnings. The weak housing market and other macro headwinds could limit its near-term gains, but it should remain a reliable blue chip dividend play for long-term investors. |

McDonald's CEO questioned over AI pricing tools by Elizabeth Warren, Democrats | FMP Stock News
|
Original source text
Senator Elizabeth Warren and four other lawmakers questioned McDonald’s use of algorithmic pricing tools in a letter to CEO Chris Kempczinski, which the lawmakers shared with Reuters. The letter, dated Nov. 2, cites a Reuters story from Sept. 29 that found McDonald’s uses machine learning algorithms to generate what the company calls the “optimal price” recommendations for each menu item at each restaurant, based in part on an estimate of how much each store’s typical patrons are willing to pay. “We are concerned that McDonald’s may be using AI to squeeze consumers into paying higher prices, and that its AI pricing tools may facilitate collusion between franchisees who should be operating as competitors,” reads the letter, which was signed by Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat, along with Democratic Representatives Greg Casar (D-Texas), Becca Balint (D-Vt.), Jesus Garcia (D-Ill.) and Mary Gay Scanlon (D-Pa). The letter asks CEO Chris Kempczinski whether the pricing tools use individual consumer data from McDonald’s loyalty program. REUTERS The letter asks Kempczinski several questions, including whether the pricing tools use individual consumer data from McDonald’s loyalty program, how franchisees might be encouraged to use the tools, and what antitrust review was done before the tools’ deployment. The lawmakers requested a response by Nov. 16. McDonald’s did not respond to a request for comment about the letter. In a statement following the earlier reporting by Reuters, it said its pricing tools do not base recommendations on individual customers. “AI pricing tools may facilitate collusion between franchisees who should be operating as competitors,” reads the letter, which was signed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren and four other House Democrats. Zuma / SplashNews.com Three franchisees told Reuters for its September story that the pricing engine’s recommendations have widened price differences between nearby restaurants. Christopher Sadowski for NY Post It also said its franchisees are free to set their own prices and that its pricing tools are “not a mandate.” The company also described Reuters reporting as “speculative and uninformed” claims that “attempt to recast a standard business practice as something controversial.” Three franchisees told Reuters for its September story that the pricing engine’s recommendations have widened price differences between nearby restaurants. Two consumer class action lawsuits have been filed in federal court in recent weeks alleging the company illegally coordinates menu prices across franchisees and company-owned restaurants through a centralized algorithmic pricing system. “AI does not set the price of a Big Mac or any other menu item,” the company said after the first suit was filed. It said franchisees make their own pricing decisions and that the use of pricing recommendation tools and analytics is widespread. |

A 4% Dividend Isn’t Always Worth More Than a 3% Tax-Free Bond Yield | FMP Stock News
|
Original source text
A higher dividend yield sounds like a win, but taxes, Medicare surcharges, and bond mechanics can quietly flip the math against you before you collect your first payment.Municipal bonds offer retirees something a PepsiCo (NASDAQ:PEP | PEP Price Prediction) or Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO) dividend can’t: interest that is generally left out of federal taxable income. Muni yields vary widely by issuer, credit rating, and maturity, so this article compares the two on tax treatment and risk, using current taxable rates as reference points. On October 30, 2026, the 10-year Treasury yielded 4.94%, and the 2-year yielded 4.56%, both fully taxable at the federal level. As of November 2, 2026, PepsiCo’s dividend yield was 3.99%, and Coca-Cola’s was 2.13%. How a Municipal Bond Pays You, and When That Changes A municipal bond is a loan to a state, city, school district, hospital authority, or similar public issuer. You hand over principal. The issuer pays interest, usually twice a year, at a coupon rate set when the bond is issued, and it returns the principal at maturity. For a standard fixed-rate muni, the coupon stays the same for the life of the bond. Your yield depends on the price you paid. A purchase above face value means your yield to maturity comes in below the coupon. A purchase below face value means it comes in above. A yield is what the bond pays on its price. Your return also depends on what happens to that price. There are two main types. The issuer’s taxing power backs general obligation bonds. Revenue bonds are backed only by a specific stream of money, such as tolls, water fees, or hospital revenue. Neither type carries FDIC insurance or a federal guarantee. Private bond insurers insure some bonds, and that protection is only as strong as the insurer behind it. These are the risks retirees tend to overlook: Credit risk. Issuers can be downgraded, and some have defaulted. A muni coupon is a contract, and a contract is only as good as the party paying it. Price risk. Muni prices move in the opposite direction of interest rates. Hold to maturity, and you get face value back, assuming no default. Sell early after rates rise and you may get less than you paid. Rates moved quickly this fall: the 10-year Treasury yield went from 5.24% on October 9, 2026, to 4.94% by October 30, 2026. Call risk. Many munis let the issuer repay the bond early, and issuers tend to do that when rates fall. You get your principal back at exactly the moment new bonds pay less. Reinvestment risk. When a bond matures or is called, you lose the coupon you had. The next bond may pay much less. Muni funds and ETFs give you diversification, but they have no maturity date. The share price moves every day, and the monthly distribution changes as the fund’s holdings turn over. A fund’s yield varies. It is never locked in. Municipal Coupons Versus PepsiCo and Coca-Cola Dividends The basic trade-off works both ways. A company can cut a dividend at any board meeting, but a fixed muni coupon can’t be reduced unless the issuer defaults. A dividend can also rise every year, while a fixed coupon never grows. That makes dividend safety the first thing to check, before yield. Coca-Cola: Lower Yield, Stronger Coverage Coca-Cola raised its dividend for the 63rd consecutive year, according to its Q4 2025 release. Its quarterly payment rose to $0.53 in 2026 from $0.51 in 2025, for an annualized forward rate of $2.12 per share. Its next payout is scheduled for December 15, 2026. The business behind the payout is strengthening. Q3 2026 adjusted EPS of $0.91 beat the $0.88 estimate, and management raised its full-year free cash flow guidance to at least $13.0B. Net debt leverage was 1.3 times EBITDA, below the company’s target range. Management said on the call: “Our priorities remain the same. Invest in our business and return capital to shareholders.” The open risk is a pending court decision in Coca-Cola’s dispute with the IRS, which management is preparing for on the balance sheet. PepsiCo: Higher Yield, More to Monitor PepsiCo pays more. Its quarterly dividend is $1.48 per share, an annualized $5.92. The 4% increase that took effect with the June 2026 payment was its 54th consecutive annual dividend increase. The pressure shows up in earnings. Even after Q3 adjusted EPS of $2.34 beat the $2.30 estimate, PepsiCo cut its fiscal 2026 core EPS growth guidance to 2.5%–3.5% from 5%–7%. Management blamed rising input costs, hedges rolling off, and weak U.S. soft drink sales. Chairman and CEO Ramon Laguarta said on the October call, “We are not competing well in soft drinks.” International operations generated 45% of profit year to date, which helps support the payout. Nothing in these results points to a cut. Still, PepsiCo’s dividend gets less earnings growth behind it than Coca-Cola’s, and the higher yield reflects some of that. Valuation matters for anyone buying the stocks for income. PepsiCo trades at a P/E of about 23 and Coca-Cola at about 31. The share price can fall even while the dividend keeps rising, and a stock has no maturity date that returns your principal. Taxes Often Decide Which One Leaves You More Municipal Bond Interest Federal law says gross income “does not include interest on any State or local bond” under 26 U.S.C. § 103(a). There are exceptions. Under § 103(b)(1), the exclusion does not cover private activity bonds that are not qualified, and IRS Publication 550 notes that interest on such private activity bonds is taxable. Interest on specified private activity bonds can also count as a tax preference item for the alternative minimum tax under 26 U.S.C. § 57(a)(5). At the state level, bonds issued in your own state are often exempt from state income tax too, while out-of-state munis usually are not (state rules vary). The exemption is worth more at higher income levels. For tax year 2026, the federal ordinary income rates are 22% for incomes over $50,400 ($100,800 for married couples filing jointly), 24% over $105,700 ($211,400 joint), and a top rate of 37% for single filers over $640,600 ($768,700 joint). Treasury and CD income is subject to those ordinary rates. For reference, the national average 12-month CD yield was 1.76% APY on October 1, 2026, before tax. Qualified Dividends Dividends from PepsiCo or Coca-Cola are generally qualified dividends if you meet the holding-period rules. The tax code treats qualified dividend income as part of net capital gain under 26 U.S.C. § 1(h)(11)(A), which means it is taxed at 0%, 15%, or 20% under § 1(h)(1) depending on taxable income, plus any state tax. These are lower than ordinary income rates. So the tax-exempt muni has a smaller advantage over a dividend stock than it does over a CD or Treasury. Retirees in the 0% qualified dividend range may find the exemption is worth very little. Social Security and Medicare Still Count Muni Interest Tax-exempt interest still counts in the government’s math. The income that determines how much of your Social Security is taxable adds back “interest received or accrued by the taxpayer during the taxable year which is exempt from tax” under 26 U.S.C. § 86(b)(2)(B). Medicare’s income-related surcharge (IRMAA) uses MAGI, which Social Security defines as adjusted gross income plus tax-exempt interest income. For 2026, the surcharge starts above $109,000 for single filers and $218,000 for joint filers, and 2026 premiums are generally based on 2024 tax return information. The standard monthly Part B premium is $202.90, and the highest bracket pays $689.90. Muni interest and dividends both count toward these thresholds. A muni lowers your federal income tax bill, but it doesn’t protect you from a bigger Social Security tax bill or a Medicare surcharge. Who Each Option Suits Municipal bonds suit retirees in the 24% federal bracket or higher, especially in high-tax states, who want a fixed coupon and a known maturity date, accept that the coupon will never grow, and plan to hold rather than sell into a rising-rate market. Coca-Cola fits income investors who want the stronger payout coverage and a lower starting yield that has risen for decades. PepsiCo fits investors who want more income today and will watch margins and guidance until the company gives its 2027 outlook in February. Retirees in the 0% qualified dividend range get little from the muni exemption and may lean toward dividends. Contact [email protected] for any questions or corrections. |

The hottest stock in the S&P 500 this year has been Moderna (MRNA +3.45%), soaring well over 600% thus far. Investors have been bullish on the company's growth prospects again, this time due to a cancer vaccine it's been working on with Merck (MRK -2.49%), whose cancer drug Keytruda has generated tens of billions of dollars.Data from recent clinical trials has investors optimistic that the vaccine could bring in a boatload of revenue for Moderna, potentially giving the healthcare company the long-term growth catalyst it has desperately needed. While its COVID vaccine gave it a temporary boost, this could be a much more sustainable growth opportunity. While it looks probable that the vaccine will obtain approval given its encouraging results, there could still be a big obstacle to its long-term success: producing it in high quantities. Image source: Getty Images. Why mass-producing it won’t be easyIn clinical trials, the vaccine, known as intismeran, showed that it was highly effective in treating melanoma patients when used with Merck's leading cancer drug, Keytruda. The risk of death and melanoma recurrence dropped by 42%, versus when Keytruda was used by itself. It's a tremendous sign of success for the vaccine, but it's also a personalized vaccine. That means it can't simply be produced at significant scale, at least not easily, anyway. It requires a custom-manufacturing process which can span six weeks. That means the cost of the treatment is likely to be high as the production process won't have the same economies of scale that other drug and vaccine makers benefit from. While it can still generate more than $5 billion in peak annual sales for Moderna based on one analyst's projections (based on just melanoma), investors may need to temper their expectations as to how long that may take and how profitable the vaccine will be. Moderna's stock hasn't been this high since 2022In just the past 12 months, Moderna's stock has surged more than 800%, and now, it's up to around where it was in early 2022. Back then, however, it was on its way down as the market was bracing for slower growth ahead for the business. Now, with a huge potential growth catalyst around the corner, excitement is building once again. However, my concern is that investors are getting ahead of themselves with the stock once again. Approval for intismeran would be a huge win for the business, but given the costs and lead times that will be associated with its production, it may not lead to massive profit growth, and that's been a big concern in recent years, as 2022 was also the last time that the company wasn't in the red. Even with the approval of intismeran, Moderna may by no means be able to get back into the black in the near future. This is a company that's generated $2 billion in revenue in the past four quarters. Adding $5 billion in additional revenue from intismeran, which wouldn't arrive right away, would still mean about $7 billion in sales, potentially on an annual basis. Meanwhile, the stock's valuation is already around $90 billion. MRNA Moderna$228.44+$7.61 (+3.45%) NASDAQ · As of 4:00 PM ET 11/03/26 The stock looks too hot to buy right nowThe long-term hope is that intismeran may be effective in treating other types of cancers, but that's by no means a sure thing at this stage. Growth investors who buy the stock at its current levels are taking on some considerable risk given that there are still plenty of question marks around the business, and just how much profit intismeran will really generate for the company. I'd put Moderna's stock on a watch list right now, because at its current price point, there's simply too much future growth and optimism priced in; it's not worth buying right now. |

3 Stocks That Did Well the Last Time the Fed Raised Rates Aggressively | FMP Stock News
|
Original source text
The Federal Reserve recently raised interest rates for the first time in years, and more rate hikes are expected. Another hike may even happen before the end of the year. How much higher rates end up going is anyone's guess at this point, as inflation remains elevated and the war in Iran doesn't appear to be ending anytime soon. For investors, now may be a good time to consider investments that may do well even amid adversity. Three stocks that did well the last time the Fed aggressively raised interest rates in 2022 include ExxonMobil (XOM -1.23%), Merck (MRK -2.49%), and Super Micro Computer (SMCI +3.12%). Here's how they did back then, and whether these stocks can once again prove to be good buys right now. Image source: Getty Images. ExxonMobilOil and gas giant ExxonMobil generated exceptional returns of more than 80% back in 2022, which was impressive given that the S&P 500 declined by more than 19%, in what proved to be a disastrous year for the markets. The company is a leader in the oil and gas sector and benefits from rising oil prices, which were soaring in 2022. Now, they're also at elevated levels, and once again, ExxonMobil's stock is a hot buy – it's up around 50% this year. Investing in the company can be a good way for investors to hedge against overall market risk, because if inflation is high and interest rates are rising, ExxonMobil's business may do better than most due to rising commodity prices. XOM ExxonMobil$177.46-$2.21 (-1.23%) NYSE · As of 4:00 PM ET 11/03/26 Another great reason to consider buying the stock is its dividend, which currently yields 2.4% – that's double the S&P 500 average of 1.1%. Plus, ExxonMobil has been increasing its payout for decades. With strong earnings and a leadership position in the industry, the company's financials are likely to improve, and it will be able to continue raising its dividend for the foreseeable future. MerckAnother stock that did well in 2022 was healthcare company Merck, whose shares rose by 45%. The healthcare industry can be a fairly insulated area of the economy, as pharmaceutical drugs and medical devices are consistently in high demand and generally don't depend on the economic cycle. That can make investing in these types of companies fairly safe moves for investors. MRK Merck$144.67-$3.69 (-2.49%) NYSE · As of 4:00 PM ET 11/03/26 Merck had a strong year in 2022, with sales rising 22% and its leading cancer drug, Keytruda, growing at the same rate. The company's operations are robust, and with its drugs in high demand, Merck performed well even as other stocks struggled. While it's not a guarantee that every healthcare stock will perform better in a downturn, it's a great example of the safety the sector can offer. This year, Merck's stock is once again doing well, rising by around 40% even as market conditions may not appear ideal. It also offers an above-average dividend, currently yielding 2.3%. Super Micro ComputerPerhaps the most surprising stock that did well in 2022 was Super Micro Computer. Shares of the tech company soared by nearly 87% that year. The business experienced strong growth, with net sales of $5.2 billion rising by an impressive rate of 46% for its fiscal year ending June 30, 2022. It was a strong performance for a stock that started the year with a modest valuation of around $2 billion. Today, it's worth 10 times as much, and it's no longer a small, fast-growing tech company. It is up this year, but by a fairly modest 8%. Meanwhile, in recent years, it's been involved in some concerning developments, with its auditor resigning in 2024 and raising issues about policies and controls, and the company's co-founder being charged this year with smuggling Nvidia chips to China. SMCI Super Micro Computer$31.39+$0.95 (+3.12%) NASDAQ · As of 4:00 PM ET 11/03/26 While Super Micro did well the last time the Fed was aggressively raising interest rates, I'm less convinced it would do well again if that were to happen in the near future. It's an important reminder for investors to always reassess a stock and not assume that what happened in the past will repeat. Every year is a new one, with an entirely new set of circumstances to consider. Super Micro, while it did well in the past, is not a safe stock to own by any means, especially when market conditions are less than ideal. |

Salesforce vs. IBM: Comparing Consistent Revenue Expansion Against Slow Sales Growth | FMP Stock News
|
Original source text
Salesforce: Gradual and Steady Upward Revenue TrendsSalesforce (CRM -1.76%) primarily generates revenue by offering an integrated suite of cloud-based customer relationship management (CRM) software that helps large global enterprises manage their complex daily sales pipelines, analyze marketing data, facilitate internal team collaboration, and automate essential customer support operations. It recently completed the acquisition of customer AI agent platform Fin, and it entered a definitive agreement to purchase customer engagement platform Braze for an estimated enterprise value of $5.66 billion. International Business Machines: Higher Yet Fluctuating RevenueInternational Business Machines (IBM -0.98%) earns its revenue by delivering open-source hybrid cloud software platforms, managing complex on-premises technology infrastructure, providing working capital financing solutions, and offering specialized business transformation and strategy consulting services to heavily regulated global organizations. It recently unveiled a next-generation dual-architecture mainframe processor designed specifically for running native applications, while concurrently facing securities fraud investigations initiated by legal firms regarding management representations about new business deals. Why Revenue Matters for InvestorsRevenue serves as a primary indicator of underlying consumer demand that shows how much total money a business brings in from its core operations before deducting any operating expenses. Tracking this top-line financial figure helps investors understand the total scale and growth trajectory of a business. Salesforce vs. International Business Machines Revenue over the last 8 quarters. Quarterly Revenue for Salesforce and International Business MachinesCalendar quarterSalesforce RevenueInternational Business Machines RevenueQ4 2024$10.0 billion (quarter ended Jan. 31, 2025)$17.6 billion (quarter ended Dec. 31, 2024)Q1 2025$9.8 billion (quarter ended April 30, 2025)$14.5 billion (quarter ended March 31, 2025)Q2 2025$10.2 billion (quarter ended July 31, 2025)$17.0 billion (quarter ended June 30, 2025)Q3 2025$10.3 billion (quarter ended Oct. 31, 2025)$16.3 billion (quarter ended Sept. 30, 2025)Q4 2025$11.2 billion (quarter ended Jan. 31, 2026)$19.7 billion (quarter ended Dec. 31, 2025)Q1 2026$11.1 billion (quarter ended April 30, 2026)$15.9 billion (quarter ended March 31, 2026)Q2 2026$11.3 billion (quarter ended July 31, 2026)$17.2 billion (quarter ended June 30, 2026)Q3 2026Not yet reported$17.1 billion (quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026)Data source: Financial Modeling Prep. Data as of Nov. 2, 2026. Foolish TakeThe revenue gap between International Business Machines and Salesforce was substantial back in 2024, but that is now narrowing. As the chart above reveals, IBM's sales growth has been lackluster despite the artificial intelligence boom providing a tailwind for its software and cloud computing businesses. In its latest quarterly earnings report, the veteran tech giant's $17.1 billion represented a 5% year-over-year increase. Contrast that with Salesforce's latest quarter, ended July 31, where its revenue of $11.3 billion was an 11% jump over the prior year. That said, with both companies around a mature stage, sales growth isn't the only factor to consider when comparing these two. IBM produced free cash flow (FCF) of $3 billion in Q3, triple the $1 billion generated by the CRM titan in its fiscal Q2. FCF is important for investors, as it funds each enterprise's dividend payments. IBM currently boasts the better dividend yield at 2.7% compared to Salesforces's anemic 0.8% yield. IBM is also investing in quantum computers. This technology could revolutionize the computing industry, and reignite stronger revenue growth for Big Blue once the tech is ready for widespread commercial adoption. |

Genuine Parts Sets 2027 Split, Unveils Growth Plans for Automotive and Motion | FMP Stock News
|
Original source text
O’Reilly Automotive’s Stock Slump Hides a Stronger BusinessGenuine Parts NYSE: GPC executives outlined plans to separate the company’s automotive and industrial operations into two publicly traded companies in the first quarter of 2027, emphasizing distinct growth strategies, capital-allocation priorities and opportunities to sharpen each business’s investor story.Chairman and CEO Will Stengel said the primary rationale for the separation is value creation. He said the automotive and industrial businesses have reached different stages in their strategic development following five to seven years of investment in areas including supply chain, technology and operating capabilities. Get Genuine Parts alerts: 5 Dividend Kings to Buy in July with Irresistible Value and Yield“They are at slightly different parts in their journey in terms of how they are thinking about capital priorities, business strategy, how we are serving customers,” Stengel said. “Neither one is better or worse, they are just different.” Stengel introduced Court Carruthers as CEO-elect of Genuine Parts Company’s automotive business following the separation. Carruthers said operating as a stand-alone automotive company should allow management to devote more attention to its international operations as well as its U.S. professional customer base. Automotive business highlights international operations and supply chain Don’t Try to Catch These 3 Falling KnivesCarruthers said roughly half of the automotive business is outside the United States. The company holds leading positions in Canada, Australia and New Zealand, while its European operations are growing faster than the market and competition, according to Carruthers. He also cited opportunities in the U.S. professional, or “do-it-for-me,” segment. Genuine Parts’ NAPA network includes 30,000 NAPA Auto Care locations globally, including 18,000 in the United States, he said. The company also sees opportunities in commercial fleet and local-government customers, where Carruthers said the business has a distinct competitive position. A central element of the automotive strategy is modernizing the U.S. supply chain to improve local product availability for professional repair customers. Carruthers described the business as one centered on serving “car on hoist” situations, where mechanics need parts delivered quickly. The company recently opened a highly automated distribution facility in York, Pennsylvania. Carruthers said such facilities can provide cost and productivity benefits, but their more significant role is to place a broader assortment of products closer to repair shops. Revenue growth opportunities from improved product availability Potential gross-margin benefits Operating-expense productivity gains from automation Management said it has been opening distribution centers at a pace of roughly two to three annually in recent years, though it plans to provide a more detailed roadmap at its investor day. Carruthers said the company will continue investments in a “measured and disciplined” manner. Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer Bert Nappier said investments in international distribution networks have enabled the company to bring operating lessons and technology back to the United States. He also pointed to the company’s robotics lab in Atlanta as a venue to test automation technology. Motion seen as underappreciated industrial leader Stengel said the planned separation will give the company’s Motion industrial-distribution business an opportunity to receive greater attention from investors. He described Motion as the leading industrial distributor in its served markets, with approximately 6% market share in a roughly $150 billion total addressable market and an estimated $70 billion serviceable market. Motion’s next-largest competitor is about half its size, Stengel said. The business serves maintenance and engineering personnel in factories and operates a break-fix model similar to Genuine Parts’ automotive operations. Stengel said Motion has improved margins since 2019 and sees opportunities to increase its share of customer spending. He also cited an “AI manufacturing build-out” as creating a favorable effect across manufacturing markets, which he characterized as a medium-term opportunity. For capital allocation, Nappier said Motion is expected to prioritize organic growth and acquisitions before shareholder returns. The automotive company is expected to focus on capital expenditures for supply-chain modernization and technology, in addition to acquisitions and shareholder returns. Separation costs and inflation pressures Management said the two businesses have largely operated independently, with no shared customer-facing roles, few shared facilities and separate enterprise resource planning systems. However, the separation will require renegotiating shared contracts, separating certain back-office systems and adding some functions that had been shared. Nappier said the company continues to expect $50 million to $75 million in dis-synergies from the separation and another $50 million to $75 million to establish Motion as a public company. He said the company remains on track to fall within its previously disclosed total range of $100 million to $150 million. Stengel said a cross-functional internal project management office meets weekly and is tracking major milestones, including a planned December dry run for operating as two companies. On broader operating conditions, executives said both businesses continue to operate in a low-single-digit inflation environment. Nappier said cost pressure remains particularly acute in selling, general and administrative expenses, citing higher diesel costs, wage inflation, healthcare costs and rising information-technology expenses. He said diesel fuel was up 50% year over year and had reached $6 per gallon, while healthcare costs were rising at double-digit rates. Management said supply-chain investments, restructuring actions and efficiency efforts are intended to help offset those pressures. Nappier also said supply-chain financing will remain part of the automotive aftermarket business and is important to the future automotive company, while Motion is not expected to use such financing. The company continues to target investment-grade credit ratings for both businesses after the separation. Nearly Two-Thirds of NextEra's New Backlog Last Quarter Was Batteries. Here's Why That Matters. | FMP Stock News
|
Original source text
NextEra Energy (NEE -0.82%) is leaning into the huge growth in electricity demand it expects over the next 20 years or so. To put a number on that, demand grew by 10% between 2005 and 2025, but is expected to increase by 60% between 2025 and 2045. That's a step change in demand, and the giant U.S. utility is looking to benefit in more than one way. Here's why batteries are an important example of the company's strong execution toward that goal.NextEra Energy's big move isn't its only move NextEra Energy is one of the world's largest utilities, but it is looking to get even bigger with its proposed acquisition of peer Dominion Energy (D -1.39%). Dominion has a monopoly in one of the world's most important data center markets, and buying the company would push NextEra Energy into the number two spot in nuclear power. It is a very big deal and could position NextEra Energy well on the growth front if it is consummated as expected (it is facing some pushback from regulators and utility customers). Image source: Getty Images. But for a long time, NextEra Energy's growth was mostly driven by its clean energy business. This division builds solar and wind power assets and sells the power produced under long-term contracts. It isn't regulated, but the long-term nature of the contracts allows the division to produce reliable cash flows. That said, the clean energy industry is evolving, and batteries are an increasingly important part of the picture. NEE NextEra Energy$84.33-$0.70 (-0.82%) NYSE · As of 4:00 PM ET 11/03/26 NextEra Energy doesn't plan on being left behind. And proof of that came in the company's second-quarter earnings. The utility added 3.7 gigawatts of clean energy to its backlog, expanding its overall backlog to 36.7 gigawatts. However, of that 3.7 gigawatts of new power, 2.4 gigawatts were batteries. That's roughly two-thirds of what was added during the quarter, proving that NextEra Energy can pivot as needed to keep growing this business. NextEra Energy is still a solid dividend growth story For years, NextEra Energy grew its dividend at around 10% a year. It disappointed Wall Street when it announced that future dividend growth would be closer to 6% a year for the foreseeable future. A big part of that change related to lowered expectations for the company's clean energy business. But the battery pivot shows that investors shouldn't be too alarmed: that division's growth may not be as fast, but it hasn't suddenly ended. Indeed, the company's battery success suggests that long-term dividend growth investors should still find NextEra Energy of interest. Reuben Gregg Brewer has no position in any of the stocks mentioned. The Motley Fool has positions in and recommends NextEra Energy. The Motley Fool recommends Dominion Energy. The Motley Fool has a disclosure policy. |

BDX Gears Up to Report Q4 Results: How to Play the Stock? | FMP Stock News
|
Original source text
Key Takeaways BDX is set to report Q4 results on Nov. 5, with EPS expected to rise 2.53% despite a 13% revenue decline.Strength in Medical Essentials, Interventional and GLP-1 programs is expected to support BDX's Q4 performance.China market challenges and a 200-basis-point Alaris revenue headwind could weigh on BDX's quarterly growth.Becton Dickinson and Company (BDX - Free Report) is slated to report fourth-quarter fiscal 2026 results on Nov. 5, before market open. In the last reported quarter, the company delivered an earnings surprise of 2.87%. BDX’s earnings beat estimates in all the trailing four quarters, delivering an average surprise of 2.94%. BDX’s Q4 EstimatesThe Zacks Consensus Estimate for revenues is pegged at $5.12 billion, down 13% from the prior-year quarter’s level. The consensus mark for earnings is pinned at $4.06 per share, indicating an improvement of 2.53% from the prior-year quarter’s figure. Factors to Consider Before BDX’s Q4 ResultsBD Medical Essentials BD Medical Essentials’ performance in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026 is expected to have remained steady, supported by continued strength in its U.S. businesses. In the fiscal third quarter, the segment delivered 3.2% revenue growth, driven by market share gains across Medical Delivery Solutions (MDS) and Specimen Management. MDS benefited from strength in U.S. Vascular Access Management and improved utilization following last year's fluid shortage. Specimen Management recorded high-single-digit growth, supported by BD Vacutainer share gains, improved supply and incremental customer demand. These trends are likely to have continued in the to-be-reported quarter as well. However, continued pressure in China is expected to have partially offset these gains. Management indicated that China-related challenges remained consistent with expectations, although the market represents a smaller portion of New BD's portfolio following the Life Sciences separation. Improved supply chain execution, record-low backorders and continued commercial investments are likely to have supported the segment's performance. BD Interventional BD Interventional's performance in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026 is expected to have remained strong, driven by continued momentum across its growth platforms. In the fiscal third quarter, the segment delivered 5.5% revenue growth, supported by strength in Peripheral Vascular Disease and Oncology within Peripheral Intervention (PI). Urology and Critical Care (UCC) benefited from continued double-digit growth in PureWick, while Surgery was supported by strong demand for Infection Prevention and Advanced Tissue Regeneration. These trends are likely to have continued in the to-be-reported quarter as well. New product launches and increased commercial investments are expected to have further supported growth. During the fiscal third quarter, BD launched the Elyra Thulium Fiber Laser System and the Liverty TIPS Stent Graft in Europe. Management highlighted strong initial customer reception for Elyra, with placements accelerating following its launch. Additionally, increased sales investments in PI and UCC are expected to have supported market share gains, although continued market challenges in China might have partially offset growth. Other Factors Likely to Affect BDXBD Connected Care's performance in the fiscal fourth quarter is expected to have benefited from continued strength in Advanced Patient Monitoring (APM). In the fiscal third quarter, APM delivered double-digit growth, supported by strong consumables demand and increased adoption of HemoSphere Alta. Medication Management Solutions benefited from strength in dispensing, Rowa pharmacy automation and infusion sets. However, a difficult prior-year comparison in Alaris capital is expected to have weighed on growth. Management indicated that the Alaris-related revenue headwind would increase to approximately 200 basis points in the fiscal fourth quarter from 100 basis points in the fiscal third quarter. BD BioPharma Systems' performance is expected to have been supported by continued strength in its Biologics business, particularly GLP-1 programs. In the fiscal third quarter, the segment delivered 5.2% growth, with Biologics recording double-digit growth, partially offset by lower vaccine demand. Management highlighted approximately 100 agreements across novel and biosimilar GLP-1 programs and noted early signs of stabilization in vaccines. These trends are likely to have supported segmental performance, although the pace of vaccine recovery remains a monitorable. Earnings Beat UnlikelyOur proven model predicts an earnings beat for BDX this earnings season. Top 3 Streaming Stocks to Watch as Digital Entertainment Demand Grows | FMP Stock News
|
Original source text
An updated edition of the Sept. 9, 2026 article.Streaming is evolving into a content-driven battleground as platforms compete to attract viewers through exclusive originals, live sports, movies and niche programming. Growing demand for on-demand entertainment and flexible viewing options continues to reshape content consumption. Nielsen reported that streaming accounted for 49.6% of total U.S. television viewing in August 2026, highlighting its expanding audience reach. Against this backdrop, Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL - Free Report) , Sony Group Corporation (SONY - Free Report) and Fox Corporation (FOXA - Free Report) deserve investors' attention. Their presence across streaming content, digital distribution and entertainment services positions them to capitalize on evolving consumer preferences and the growing demand for diverse programming. Live sports, premium originals and free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) are becoming important growth catalysts, helping platforms expand viewership and deepen engagement. Gracenote reported a 37.5% year-over-year rise in individual sports games and events distributed across free ad-supported streaming television services, underscoring expanding content opportunities. Advertising monetization is also gaining traction. The Interactive Advertising Bureau projects U.S. connected-TV advertising spending to rise 15.6% in 2026, reflecting growing advertiser interest in streaming audiences. Looking ahead, expanding content libraries, international viewership and AI-powered content discovery should fuel streaming growth. Although rising content costs and competition remain challenges, stronger advertising monetization, diversified revenue streams and improving viewer engagement could support sustained growth and create attractive investment opportunities. If you’re looking to tap into this fast-growing trend, our Streaming Content Thematic Screen offers a simple way to spot promising stocks in the sector. Designed with advanced analytics, the screen highlights companies driving industry transformation, helping investors stay ahead of emerging opportunities. Ready to uncover more transformative thematic investment ideas? Explore 40 cutting-edge investment themes with Zacks Thematic Investing Screens and discover your next big opportunity. Sony Group Corporation entered online video through its 2006 Grouper acquisition and later rebranded the service as Crackle. SonyLIV launched in 2013, while its acquisitions of Funimation and Crunchyroll in 2017 and 2021 sharpened Sony's focus on anime and targeted streaming audiences. Crunchyroll now anchors that strategy, reaching more than 21 million paid subscribers by March 2026. Its catalog exceeds 50,000 episodes, with subtitles and dubbing across 13 languages. This scale gives Sony room to attract international fans, increase engagement and build recurring subscription income. Another advantage lies in Sony's anime ecosystem. Aniplex develops and produces popular titles, while Crunchyroll connects them with worldwide viewers. Sony is strengthening ties with creators and publishers, supporting a richer content pipeline that could improve subscriber retention and broaden monetization through fan experiences. Beyond subscriptions, this Zacks Rank #2 (Buy) company benefits from licensing films and television programs to other streaming platforms. Its expanded Netflix agreement will gradually extend worldwide, with full availability expected in 2029. This balanced approach can grow streaming-related revenue without the high costs of competing as a general-purpose streamer. You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here. Fox Corporation entered subscription streaming with FOX Nation in 2018. Its 2020 purchase of Tubi added a free, advertising-supported service, while the 2025 launch of FOX One brought live news, sports and entertainment to streaming viewers. These services address different viewing needs. Tubi has 110 million monthly active users, giving Fox an audience for digital advertising. Its catalog and creator-produced series could support longer viewing times. Management expects Tubi's profit margin to reach roughly 20% once the service matures. FOX One offers live programming without requiring a traditional television subscription. Management said approximately 97% of new subscribers lack cable service, indicating that Fox is reaching households. Bundles with FOX Nation, ESPN and Crunchyroll could improve distribution, although subscription demand may vary with sports seasons. Fox's proposed Roku acquisition could improve distribution, content discovery and advertising targeting through Roku's connected-TV platform. If completed, the acquisition would give Fox more access to streaming households and opportunities to increase advertising revenue. FOXA holds a Zacks Rank #2. Alphabet’s streaming roots trace back to YouTube’s 2005 launch and Google’s subsequent 2006 acquisition. What started as a home for uploaded clips now spans long-form video, Shorts, music, live programming and YouTube TV, introduced in 2017. These formats now reach distinct audiences. Living-room viewing is becoming an advantage. Nielsen reported YouTube accounted for 15.8% of U.S. television viewing in August 2026, leading media distributors. Its base of independent creators keeps programming fresh without relying entirely on expensive studio productions, supporting audience engagement and advertising demand. Subscriptions provide a second growth engine. YouTube Music and Premium together surpassed 150 million subscribers worldwide, including trials. YouTube TV now offers targeted channel plans, ESPN Unlimited and NFL Sunday Ticket, giving sports fans options beyond cable. The wider selection could support retention and steadier subscription income. Looking ahead, customizable feeds, episodic Shorts and improved creator tools should make discovery and production easier. As audiences spend more time streaming on televisions, Alphabet can capitalize on longer watch time, growing advertising demand and wider subscription adoption, supporting steady streaming growth. GOOGL carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). |

Airbnb to Report Q3 Earnings: What's in Store for the Stock? | FMP Stock News
|
Original source text
Key Takeaways Airbnb expects Q3 revenues to grow 15-17% year over year.Strong travel demand, rising bookings and ADR may boost Airbnb. AI investments and higher spending could pressure Airbnb's margins. Airbnb (ABNB - Free Report) is set to report its third-quarter 2026 results on Nov. 5. For the third quarter of 2026, Airbnb expects revenues between $4.69 billion and $4.77 billion, implying growth of 15-17%. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for third-quarter 2026 revenues is pegged at $4.75 billion, suggesting an increase of 15.98% from the year-ago quarter’s reported figure. The consensus mark for third-quarter 2026 earnings is pegged at $2.89 per share, which has been unchanged over the past 30 days. This indicates 30.77% year-over-year growth. The company’s earnings beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate in one of the trailing four quarters while missing on three occasions, with the negative average surprise being 5.15%. Let’s see how things have shaped up prior to this announcement. Factors Likely to Have Impacted ABNB’s Q3 PerformanceAirbnb’s third-quarter 2026 performance is expected to have benefited from strong global travel demand, accelerating bookings, improving average daily rates (ADR) and continued momentum across its core and expansion markets. In the to-be-reported quarter, the company expects gross booking value to grow in the mid-teens year over year, driven by low double-digit growth in Nights and Seats Booked and a moderate increase in ADR, supported by favorable business mix and price appreciation. The company is likely to have benefited from strong demand across North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific. Expansion markets, particularly India and Brazil, are expected to have supported growth through increasing adoption among first-time bookers. Improving demand across established markets, including the United States, France, the United Kingdom and Australia, is likely to have strengthened booking volumes. The company’s ongoing investments in artificial intelligence (AI)-powered product enhancements are expected to have improved booking conversion rates in the to-be-reported quarter. Better search and discovery, personalized recommendations, AI-generated listing and review highlights and simplified checkout processes are likely to have enhanced user engagement. The expansion of Reserve Now, Pay Later and simplified service fees is expected to have supported booking growth, improved affordability and strengthened host competitiveness. Airbnb's expanding hotel inventory is likely to have contributed to growth in the to-be-reported quarter. Hotel nights grew approximately three times faster than home nights in the second quarter, reflecting strong demand. The expansion of Airbnb Services, including car rentals, grocery delivery, airport pickup and luggage storage, alongside growing Experiences offerings, is expected to have supported customer engagement and platform adoption. However, Airbnb's third-quarter 2026 performance is likely to have been hurt by higher investments in product development, artificial intelligence and sales and marketing initiatives. Increased spending on business expansion and customer incentives, alongside tougher year-over-year comparisons, is expected to have pressured margins. The company anticipates a slight year-over-year decline in adjusted EBITDA margin due to the timing of investment. What Our Model SaysPer the Zacks model, the combination of a positive Earnings ESP and a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), 2 (Buy), or 3 (Hold) increases the odds of an earnings beat. Palantir's CEO Just Sent Wall Street a Message It Won't Soon Forget | FMP Stock News
|
Original source text
Palantir just posted its fastest growth ever as a public company, yet investors sold the stock anyway. Now Alex Karp is calling out his critics by name, and the next few quarters will determine who actually gets the last laugh.Palantir Technologies (NASDAQ:PLTR | PLTR Price Prediction) CEO Alex Karp ended the company’s third-quarter earnings call on November 2, 2026 by speaking directly to the stock’s skeptics. He was thanking early backers who invested their own money, people who “would otherwise be called retail”, when he said: “And part of the delivery here, part of what motivates me is helping to make sure we are fighting for you and, quite frankly, making sure that the people that made fun of you and made fun of us are suffering. And I’m very proud of that, and I’m very proud to have all of you along with us, and thank you for that support.” Just before that, Karp said those shareholders had “defended us against what obviously now look like ridiculously stupid and malicious, incredibly hard-to-understand attacks,” which he called “something that we will never forget.” Results That Back Up Karp’s Swagger Revenue came in at $2.313 billion, up 96% year over year. That is the fastest growth Palantir has delivered as a public company. Growth has picked up every quarter this year, from 84.71% in Q1 to 92.83% in Q2. GAAP net income was $1.128 billion, and the adjusted operating margin expanded to 62% from 51% a year ago. The biggest change was in the business mix. U.S. commercial revenue grew 148% to $984 million, which exceeded U.S. government revenue of $953 million for the first time in the company’s history. Karp put it this way: “A business that was viewed as a nice-to-have part of our business as late as three years ago is now the dominant part of our business.” He also said new deals are starting much bigger: “Instead of being like $250K, it’s like $25 million to start.” Net dollar retention came in at 165%. Management raised its full-year revenue guidance to between $8.530 billion and $8.534 billion, which works out to about 91% growth. That forecast was at 61% when the year began. Can the Growth Support the Stock Price? Investors still sold the stock. Shares traded at $173.11 on Tuesday, down 2.94% for the session and 12.94% over the past week. Analysts pointed to slowing total contract value (TCV), the dollar value of new contracts signed in the quarter (per CNBC). TCV grew just 6% to $2.918 billion. At a market cap of about $396.5 billion, Palantir trades at 86x forward earnings and 159x trailing earnings. A multiple like that only holds up if growth keeps speeding up. If revenue growth stalls in the 90% range while bookings stay flat, the multiple is likely to shrink, even as the business keeps putting up record numbers. Signals to Track Before the Next Earnings Report Q4 delivery: Guidance calls for revenue of $2.649 billion to $2.653 billion. Bookings: TCV needs to pick back up to support Karp’s claim that “the market for us is insatiable.” Dilution and collections: Stock-based compensation rose to $318.9 million from $172.3 million a year ago. Accounts receivable climbed to $1.883 billion from $1.042 billion at the end of 2025. Karp has given his critics a clear challenge. Over the next few quarters, the bookings numbers will show whether he can back it up. Contact [email protected] for any questions or corrections. |

PLTR Beats on Q3 Earnings and Raises Guidance: Is the Stock a Buy? | FMP Stock News
|
Original source text
Key Takeaways Palantir's Q3 earnings surged 109.5% year over year, while revenues jumped 96% to $2.3 billion.PLTR's commercial and government revenues topped $1 billion each, while net dollar retention reached 165%.Palantir raised its 2026 revenue outlook to $8.530-$8.534 billion.Palantir Technologies Inc. (PLTR - Free Report) delivered an earnings beat in the third quarter of 2026, supported by accelerating artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, expanding commercial demand and higher government spending. Revenue growth reached a record level, while profitability and cash generation improved alongside business expansion. The company also raised its full-year outlook, reflecting sustained demand for its AI platforms. However, rising operating expenses, shorter contract durations and growing dependence on the U.S. market warrant attention. With momentum continuing across major business lines, investors must assess whether the earnings performance justifies a more bullish stance on PLTR stock. PLTR's Q3 Earnings Beat Reinforces Growth MomentumPalantir reported quarterly earnings of 44 cents per share, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 41 cents by 7.3%. Earnings more than doubled from 21 cents in the year-ago quarter, representing approximately 109.5% year-over-year growth. The performance extended Palantir's record of exceeding consensus EPS expectations to four consecutive quarters. In the preceding quarter, earnings of 41 cents surpassed expectations of 35 cents, producing a 17.1% surprise. Revenues reached $2.3 billion, exceeding the consensus estimate of approximately $2.2 billion by 6.5%. The figure represented 96% year-over-year growth from approximately $1.2 billion and a 20% sequential increase. Revenue growth accelerated from 93% in the second quarter, indicating that enterprise AI adoption continued to translate into higher spending. The combination of earnings beats and sequential revenue expansion suggests that customer demand has remained ahead of market expectations. Commercial Expansion and U.S. Demand AcceleratePalantir's third-quarter revenue mix reflected increasing contributions from commercial customers. Commercial revenues reached $1.17 billion, while government revenue stood at $1.15 billion. Both businesses exceeded $1 billion in quarterly revenues for the first time. Image Source: PLTR U.S. revenues totaled approximately $1.9 billion, accounting for 84% of consolidated revenue, compared with more than 81% in the preceding quarter. This indicates a sequential increase in the company's geographic concentration. Notably, U.S. commercial revenue exceeded U.S. government revenue for the first time, marking an important shift in Palantir's growth profile. Demand for Sovereign AI and enterprise software deployments continued to support new contracts. One industrial customer expanded an initial engagement worth nearly $3 million into an agreement carrying approximately $29 million in annual contract value. Third-quarter total contract value bookings reached $2.9 billion, equivalent to approximately 1.26 times quarterly revenues. Net dollar retention increased to 165% from 157% in the second quarter, an 800-basis-point sequential improvement. This retention performance indicates that existing customers are expanding spending, reinforcing the potential for recurring revenue growth. Operating Profitability Strengthens Despite Higher SpendingPalantir reported third-quarter GAAP operating income of $1.08 billion, crossing the $1 billion threshold for the first time. Based on revenue of $2.31 billion, the reported figures imply a GAAP operating margin of approximately 46.9%. Image Source: PLTR Operating cash flow reached $1.205 billion, equivalent to approximately 52.1% of quarterly revenue. This level of cash generation provides additional capacity to fund platform development and customer implementations. Nevertheless, adjusted operating expenses increased 20% sequentially to $887 million. Higher technology investment and technical hiring contributed to the increase. The matching sequential growth rates in revenue and adjusted expenses suggest that continued operating leverage will depend on whether revenue expansion can outpace future investment requirements. Management also highlighted shorter-than-usual contract durations among several large Sovereign AI agreements. Although these arrangements can expand over time, their initial duration creates uncertainty around revenue visibility. Raised Guidance Supports Further Revenue ExpansionPalantir expects fourth-quarter 2026 revenues between $2.649 billion and $2.653 billion. The midpoint of $2.651 billion is approximately 14.6% above third-quarter revenues and nearly 7.9% higher than the analyst estimate of $2.456 billion. For 2026, management increased revenue guidance to $8.530-$8.534 billion from the previous range of $8.150-$8.158 billion. The midpoint revision represents an increase of approximately $378 million, or 4.6%. The company also raised its full-year U.S. commercial revenue outlook to more than $3.559 billion from the prior target exceeding $3.424 billion. These revisions indicate continued commercial momentum entering the final quarter. However, the ability to maintain high growth while controlling expenses and increasing implementation capacity remains central to the longer-term earnings outlook. How Does PLTR Compare With Microsoft and Snowflake?Microsoft (MSFT - Free Report) and Snowflake (SNOW - Free Report) offer useful reference points for evaluating Palantir's enterprise AI opportunity. Microsoft approaches enterprise AI through its established software ecosystem and cloud infrastructure, while Snowflake focuses on cloud-based data management and analytics. Palantir's differentiation rests on integrating AI into operational workflows and converting initial deployments into larger customer commitments. Unlike Microsoft, Palantir has a more concentrated revenue base, making major customer wins particularly important to its growth trajectory. Compared with Snowflake, Palantir's government exposure provides a distinct demand channel alongside commercial expansion. Investors evaluating Microsoft and Snowflake against Palantir should consider customer retention, revenue diversification, operating margins and the sustainability of AI-related spending before drawing valuation conclusions. Is PLTR Stock a Buy After Its Earnings Beat?Hold appears appropriate for Palantir following its latest earnings release. Accelerating commercial adoption, expanding customer spending and rising profitability demonstrate the company's ability to monetize enterprise AI demand. Stronger guidance also supports confidence in its growth strategy. However, increasing investment requirements, shorter contract durations and substantial U.S. revenue concentration introduce risks to earnings visibility. The company's rapid expansion is encouraging, but sustaining this pace will require consistent execution and continued customer conversions. Without valuation evidence establishing an attractive entry point, the earnings beat alone does not justify a more aggressive investment stance. Existing investors may reasonably retain their positions while monitoring profitability and demand. PLTR stock currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Palantir Q3 Earnings Call Highlights Sovereign AI Demand and Outlook | FMP Stock News
|
Original source text
Key Takeaways Palantir raises its 2026 revenue outlook to $8.53B, reflecting 91% growth on sovereign AI demand.U.S. commercial revenue up 148% to $984M, surpassing government revenues for the first time.Sovereign AI fuels faster customer conversions, expanding defense deployments and AI workflows. Palantir Technologies Inc. (PLTR - Free Report) emphasized accelerating enterprise adoption of sovereign artificial intelligence during its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, highlighting faster customer conversions, expanding commercial deployments and rising demand for AI-driven operational workflows.Management also raised its annual outlook following substantial growth across commercial and government businesses. Executives outlined how Palantir's AI platform is helping customers retain control over proprietary data while generating measurable operational value. PLTR Raises 2026 Outlook on Accelerating DemandChief financial officer David Glazer raised Palantir's 2026 revenue guidance to $8.530-$8.534 billion, representing 91% year-over-year growth. The midpoint reflects a nine-percentage-point increase in expected annual growth from the previous guidance. Management also increased its U.S. commercial revenue forecast to more than $3.55 billion, implying growth of at least 143%. For the fourth quarter, Palantir expects revenues of $2.65-$2.66 billion and adjusted operating income of $1.64-$1.65 billion. Full-year adjusted free cash flow guidance increased to $4.8-$5 billion. Palantir Sees Sovereign AI Reshaping Enterprise AdoptionChief revenue officer Ryan Taylor identified sovereign AI as a central driver of enterprise demand. Customers increasingly want AI capabilities that preserve control over proprietary information, models and operational decisions. Taylor described several rapid pilot conversions, including an industrial materials company expanding from a nearly $3 million engagement to a $29 million annual contract value agreement. Chief technology officer Shyam Sankar emphasized AI integration into enterprise workflows rather than isolated employee productivity improvements. He highlighted AIP's ability to continuously refine models using operational data, supporting measurable business outcomes. PLTR's Commercial Expansion Changes Revenue MixGlazer reported U.S. commercial revenue growth of 148% year over year and 29% sequentially to $984 million. The segment surpassed U.S. government revenue for the first time. U.S. commercial customer count reached 686, increasing 29% annually. Net dollar retention climbed to 165%, reflecting continued expansion among existing customers. Management also highlighted $6.52 billion in U.S. commercial remaining deal value, up 79% annually. Glazer noted that several large sovereign AI agreements carried shorter durations, with management expecting contract size and duration to expand over time. Palantir Expands Defense AI CapabilitiesPalantir's government business benefited from continued adoption across defense and civilian agencies. U.S. government revenues increased 96% year over year to $953 million. Taylor highlighted an Army agreement for eight TITAN systems, while Sankar discussed expanding deployment of Maven, which now exceeds 100,000 users. Sankar also emphasized disconnected AI operations through Palantir's DORA architecture. The technology enables military personnel to integrate legacy systems and deploy capabilities in environments with limited connectivity. PLTR Emphasizes Profitability Alongside AI InvestmentGlazer highlighted third-quarter adjusted operating income of $1.43 billion, representing a 62% margin. Adjusted gross margin reached 85%. Adjusted operating expenses increased 53% annually to $887 million, reflecting continued AI platform development, research spending and technical hiring. Palantir reported adjusted earnings of $0.44 per share, which exceeded the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $0.41. Revenues of $2.31 billion surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.17 billion. Revenue increased approximately 96% year over year. Palantir Addresses Customer Conversion and CompetitionDuring the analyst discussion, Dan Ives questioned how sovereign AI bootcamps influence customer adoption. CEO Alex Karp explained that customers are moving faster from initial engagement to production deployments, often beginning with shorter contracts that subsequently expand. A D.A. Davidson analyst questioned Palantir's positioning relative to AI model developers. Karp emphasized that model providers help expand the overall market, while Palantir concentrates on enterprise implementation rather than directly competing for every customer. Karp also told a Deutsche Bank analyst that Palantir's defense technology supports deterrence. He linked military capabilities with broader efforts to strengthen industrial production. PLTR Maintains Focus on Operational AI DeploymentManagement's commentary reflected confidence in sustained demand for enterprise AI applications, particularly solutions combining proprietary data, operational workflows and model customization. Palantir's priorities remain accelerating commercial adoption, expanding defense capabilities and investing in technical talent while maintaining profitability. Palantir's Zacks Rank and Style ScoresPalantir currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold), indicating a neutral near-term earnings-revision outlook. Its Growth Score of A reflects favorable growth characteristics, while its Momentum Score of B indicates relatively attractive price-trend characteristics. You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here. However, its Value Score of F signals unfavorable valuation characteristics. The VGM Score of B reflects a favorable overall combination of value, growth and momentum factors despite the weaker valuation profile. Investors should note that the Zacks Rank can change as analysts revise earnings estimates following the third-quarter results. |

Palantir's Report Moved My Buy Price for the Stock. Here's the New Number. | FMP Stock News
|
Original source text
In mid-October, I set a simple rule for buying Palantir Technologies (PLTR -1.65%) stock: 120 times the earnings it posted for its last four quarters. Back then, that was around $140 per share, while the stock traded near $198.I also said that if Palantir's earnings kept rising, my buy price should rise with them. They did. Palantir's third-quarter report, released after the market closed on Monday, Nov. 2, lifted those trailing earnings enough to move my number to about $172 per share. And the stock moved the other way. Shares closed Monday at $178.34 and dropped about 3% after hours to roughly $173 as of this writing. Shares are now down about 17% from their Oct. 9 record close of $209.05 -- and sit only about 1% above my new price. Image source: Getty Images. My buy price climbed about 22%My rule hasn't changed, but the quarters it counts have. Palantir's third-quarter earnings per share came in at $0.44, up from $0.18 for the third quarter of 2025. With that year-ago quarter now out of the trailing total, the four quarters that count are the fourth quarter of 2025 ($0.24), the first two quarters of 2026 ($0.34 and $0.41), and the latest $0.44. Add them up, and Palantir earned $1.43 a share in the last year. That's around 22% above the $1.17 it had earned when I set the rule. And it's more than three times the $0.42 Palantir earned in the four quarters a year before. At 120 times earnings, $1.43 a share works out to about $172. The report also cleared both bars I set for it in an Oct. 31 piece. Revenue climbed 96% year over year to around $2.31 billion, topping the $2.3 billion I'd looked for. And Palantir's sales to American companies (its U.S. commercial revenue) climbed 148% to $984 million, well above the $930 million or so I'd flagged. Is Palantir's profit growth slowing?Granted, a buy price linked to earnings only keeps rising if earnings do. And at first glance, the latest quarter looks like a slowdown. Compared with the quarter before, Palantir's earnings per share grew about 42% at the start of 2026, about 21% in the second quarter, and only about 7% in the third. But most of that slowdown came from outside the software business itself. Palantir's operating income reached $1.085 billion, up around 19% from $912 million in the second quarter, for a 47% operating margin. It was also almost triple the $393 million the company made from operations in the year-ago quarter. What weighed on the bottom line was other income, a number that's outside the company's operations. It went from a gain of around $92 million in the second quarter to a loss of about $26 million in the third. So net income rose only about 6% from the second quarter, but it was still up about 137% year over year to about $1.13 billion. Management's forecast signals more growth. Palantir guided for fourth-quarter non-GAAP (adjusted) operating income of around $1.64 billion. That number is around 15% over the third quarter's $1.427 billion. Once Palantir reports that fourth quarter, the $0.24 it earned at the end of 2025 leaves the trailing total. Even a flat fourth quarter, at $0.44 a share, would bring trailing earnings to $1.63 and my buy price to around $196. Palantir stock is finally near my priceThe gap has shrunk from both sides. In mid-October, my buy price was about 29% under the stock. Since then, the buy price has risen about 22%, while the stock has slid about 13%, from roughly $198 to around $173. PLTR Palantir Technologies$175.40-$2.94 (-1.65%) NASDAQ · As of 4:00 PM ET 11/03/26 Yes, 120 times earnings is still a high price-to-earnings multiple, and at about $173, Palantir's price-to-earnings ratio stands near 121. That valuation only makes sense if profits keep climbing. If earnings growth quarter to quarter stays in the single digits, my number might rise only slowly, and the stock could fall well below it. But a company growing revenue 96% at a 47% operating margin doesn't look to me like one that's running out of profit growth. So, for the first time since I set the rule, I think Palantir stock is worth considering. With shares only around 1% over my number, and likely to swing on either side of it, I'd build a stake slowly rather than buying in one shot. |

Hiding inside Palantir's skyrocketing quarter is a foreboding signal | FMP Stock News
|
Original source text
Palantir delivered such a huge third-quarter earnings report on Monday that its press release even bragged that the numbers were “crushing consensus expectations.”Yet, retail investors were lukewarm on the company on Tuesday, with the stock trading slightly down. That’s because Palantir’s enterprise sales, its big growth area, showed signs of slowing. First, the good news for the company’s investors. Revenue grew 96% year over year to $2.31 billion, the first time it has ever surpassed the $2 billion mark. Palantir’s revenue, which also grew 20% from the previous quarter, beat analysts’ expectations of $2.18 billion. Palantir also reported adjusted earnings per share of $0.44 versus analysts’ expectations of $0.41. The company even upped its revenue guidance for the full year. Normally, that alone would send a stock soaring. The clincher was that Palantir’s U.S. commercial revenue surpassed U.S. government revenue for the first time ever. The company reported $984 million in commercial contracts (up 148% from the year-ago quarter), versus $953 million in U.S. government revenue. The reason for all this love from enterprises? They are signing up for the company’s AI software that can run frontier models and custom-train open-weight models securely, without sharing any of their data and business processes with outside AI labs. Plus, Palantir has always offered what is today known as “forward-deployed” software engineering, which helps customers customize its wares. However, Palantir also revealed a less-than-rosy signal: Even as enterprises are moving faster than ever., they are often signing short-term trials. “What Ryan and I are seeing on the front line and commercial is this much quicker interaction, much quicker to deployment, shorter duration of the contract but then an ability to expand that contract dramatically,” CEO Alex Karp (pictured above) told Wall Street analysts on the quarterly conference call. Palantir is experiencing one of the unique phenomena of AI in the enterprise right now. Corporations are willing to quickly try AI software without their typical bureaucracy, but they are also more willing to cancel contracts. Karp used one off-color metaphor after another to describe how unconcerned he was about holding onto his enterprise business. “We’ve gone from being the most attractive person in the physics department to being the captain of the football team, kind of thing,” he said describing the influx of prospective corporate customers were flowing in. “Conversely, you know, once you go Palantir, you don’t go back, and that’s just that’s how it is, and you see it in our numbers.” The numbers don’t yet confirm Palantir’s long-term success. While the company closed a hefty $1.46 billion of total contract value from U.S. enterprises in the quarter, that’s actually a decline from its record-setting $2.13 billion of enterprise TCV in the previous quarter. That suggests decelerating sales, at least last quarter. The next earnings will show if Palantir has solidified its role as a rising U.S. enterprise AI provider. Historically, many enterprises sign their biggest tech purchases in the final quarter of the year. Certainly Karp and team are confident. They increased guidance for U.S. commercial revenue to be “in excess of $3.559 billion, representing a growth rate of at least 143%.” When you purchase through links in our articles, we may earn a small commission. No forward-looking statement can be guaranteed and actual results may differ materially from those we project. Our results may be affected by our ability to successfully market both new and existing products domestically and internationally, clinical and regulatory developments involving current and future products, sales growth of recently launched products, competition from other products including biosimilars, difficulties or delays in manufacturing our products and global economic conditions, including those resulting from geopolitical relations and government actions. In addition, sales of our products are affected by pricing pressure, political and public scrutiny and reimbursement policies imposed by third-party payers, including governments, private insurance plans and managed care providers and may be affected by regulatory, clinical and guideline developments and domestic and international trends toward managed care and healthcare cost containment. We perform a substantial amount of our commercial manufacturing activities at a few key facilities, including in Puerto Rico, and also depend on third parties for a portion of our manufacturing activities, and limits on supply may constrain sales of certain of our current products and product candidate development. An outbreak of disease or similar public health threat, and the public and governmental effort to mitigate against the spread of such disease, could have a significant adverse effect on the supply of materials for our manufacturing activities, the distribution of our products, the commercialization of our product candidates, and our clinical trial operations, and any such events may have a material adverse effect on our product development, product sales, business and results of operations. We rely on collaborations with third parties for the development of some of our product candidates and for the commercialization and sales of some of our commercial products. In addition, we compete with other companies with respect to many of our marketed products as well as for the discovery and development of new products. Discovery or identification of new product candidates or development of new indications for existing products cannot be guaranteed and movement from concept to product is uncertain; consequently, there can be no guarantee that any particular product candidate or development of a new indication for an existing product will be successful and become a commercial product. Further, some raw materials, medical devices and component parts for our products are supplied by sole third-party suppliers. Certain of our distributors, customers and payers have substantial purchasing leverage in their dealings with us. The discovery of significant problems with a product similar to one of our products that implicate an entire class of products could have a material adverse effect on sales of the affected products and on our business and results of operations. Our efforts to collaborate with or acquire other companies, products or technology, and to integrate the operations of companies or to support the products or technology we have acquired, may not be successful, and may result in unanticipated costs, delays or failures to realize the benefits of the transactions. A breakdown, cyberattack or information security breach of our information technology systems could compromise the confidentiality, integrity and availability of our systems and our data. Our stock price is volatile and may be affected by a number of events. The effects of global climate change and related natural disasters could negatively affect our business and operations. Global economic conditions may magnify certain risks that affect our business. 3 High Conviction Stocks + Charitable Giving: Tax Alpha With Raul Shah | FMP Stock News
|
Original source text
Ruslan Lytvyn/iStock via Getty ImagesDownload this episode on Apple, Spotify, or listen below: Raul Shah explains how value investing can help investors navigate volatile markets, highlighting opportunities in Hims & Hers (HIMS), ServiceNow (NOW), and UnitedHealth (UNH). Two tax-efficient charitable giving strategies: donor-advised funds and qualified charitable distributions. Raul also discusses eligibility, tax benefits, limitations, and common pitfalls. Transcript Rena Sherbill: Welcome back, everybody. We are back once again, very gratefully with Mr. Raul Shah. And we are back with another round of Tax Alpha. Today we are going to be discussing something related to the charitable world. And for a refresher, Raul Shah is the founder of DocShah Financial, which is a value investing firm that is focused on helping everyday investors and retirees maximize their portfolio growth while protecting their wealth from heavy taxation through advanced tax planning. It has been around since 2023 and since then has generated a 36% annualized equity return for its clients. In addition to the work in the markets, Raul is also an educator at Johns Hopkins University, where he teaches a tax planning course for that community. I think that we should start, if you wouldn't mind, where we've started the past couple of times. Just anchor us in this current market before we get into this today's topic. Raul Shah: Sure. Well, I always say at the start of these podcasts that I'm excited to talk about the tax planning stuff. I'm excited to back be back with you. So no exceptions there. This is gonna be a great segment. And yeah, crazy market, but when is it not really a crazy market? And you you mentioned our the firm's annualized stock return has been thirty six percent since inception. I'm incredibly proud of that. I don't do anything crazy. I mean, I just do value investing for our clients and I pair that with a lot of tax planning strategies, the same ones that we use in all these podcasts, that we talk about. And, it's just a tremendous value add. And as I try to navigate the market for clients, all I'm trying to do is look at what a company is worth and buy it at some discount relative to that. And the bigger the discount that you can buy, the safer the investment. You really learn the importance of that in super volatile markets because when you go out and you buy really speculative stocks or stocks, selling for like 80 times price to sales, or there's no earnings and there's never been any earnings, and people are paying ridiculous prices for these stocks, that's when you get burned, is when you buy those types of things and the market's really volatile because you experience these brutal shakeouts and repricings of stocks that are grossly overpriced. And when you're buying value stocks, you don't have to worry about that because any turbulence that happens if you own value stocks are just opportunities because you get to buy something either more at a cheaper price, which makes your portfolio safer because you've lowered the cost basis and increased the margin of safety. Or if it's to the upside, you get to actually capture that volatility and and sell it and and go buy a car or something, do something that you want to do with the money. The antidote to volatile markets is is always been the same. It's buying value stocks, really good companies at cheap prices. And we talked about a few stocks last time. I'm happy to give a recap on some of the developments in the past month if that's something that would interest you and and and the audience. I always tell people that it's of course not financial advice. I manage a lot of money for for various clients and our three biggest positions are Hims & Hers Health (HIMS), ServiceNow (NOW) and UnitedHealth Group (UNH). And we've talked about these stocks a lot. HIMS is reporting on November 9th. HIMS is a healthcare platform and they are growing rapidly. I mean, they've been growing at like 50, 60% since inception, or actually since they were founded in in 2018. And they're expected to continue to grow, 30% plus for the foreseeable future. What they're really doing is building a really, really sticky healthcare platform. The average monthly revenue per subscriber has gone up so much. It's gone up it was in the 40s a few years ago, and now it's $92. So people are flocking to the platform. They've got millions of subscribers, and they're paying double now for the services and the products that they're buying than just a few years ago. And you can imagine flywheels like that, like really sticky subscription revenues like that, are beautiful businesses because the revenue is very predictable. And it's very easy to forecast. And Hims is doing the same thing that Amazon (AMZN) did. If you go back and you look at Amazon from like the early 2000s, where Bezos had a very large vision. He could have made the company profitable in the early 2000s. All he had to do was just cut out his R&D expense. But he didn't want to do that. He wanted to keep pouring capital back into the business and scale it higher and higher and higher. So that ultimately, 15 years later, when the profits did start to show up, they were gigantic. HIMS is doing the same thing. If you look at their income statement, it's it's almost the same exact in fact, it is the same exact situation as Amazon. They're investing all their capital in R&D and marketing, and they're trying to grow the business as fast as they can. If you took out marketing expense and part of the R&D that's just related to growing the business, they would be profitable today. They'd make a ton of money. They'd probably have like a dollar of earnings per share already today, if not even more. But they're choosing to reinvest. And so with that comes uncertainty. And the market hates uncertainty. You see it with all these AI stocks. Anytime Google (GOOG) or Meta (META) or Microsoft (MSFT) comes out and they say, we're going to spend, you $100 billion or whatever on building out our AI infrastructure, the market just punishes them. Because again, the market hates uncertainty. From the market's perspective, anytime a company says we're reinvesting in our business, that equates to that company is lighting that money on fire and we're never going to get a return on it. That's where the market's mind goes. And so they punish stocks like that. but if you really know the value of the companies that you're buying, you're not going to be worried or get shaken out, when the market has has those kind of shakedowns that it always has. We talked a lot about ServiceNow. ServiceNow actually reported a great quarter, except their stock got absolutely decimated. In fact, it was the largest drop in ServiceNow's history. That was a really interesting case for anyone following along. But ServiceNow basically they provide enterprise software to Fortune 500 companies. you can think if you have 5,000 employees, imagine if you're onboarding one employee, all of the different things that have to happen, right? HR has to issue a contract, IT has to issue security credentials, the cafeteria has to know your dietary restrictions. I mean, there's a million different things going on. You can't manually do that when you've got 10,000 employees, right? You need a software that does that and ServiceNow layers AI into their entire software. In fact, they partnered just recently with ChatGPT to help expand the service offering. So they're an AI company that that also uses software. But the market, it's it it it just sees AI and SaaS, right? SaaSpocalypse, and the market thinks that AI is gonna kill all SaaS companies. And it's not what AI is gonna do is it's gonna for sure kill off those SaaS companies that are like one-trick ponies like if you're a SaaS company and all you do is provide CRM. I mean, your days are numbered, AI is gonna take that job pretty easily. In fact, it's already doing that. But when you're an actual platform, like what I what I call a pass, AI enhances platform as a service. AI enhances your offering, and that's what ServiceNow does. But the market doesn't see that. I'm reading common stocks and uncommon profits by Phil Fisher, which is a fantastic book. Anyone who's listening to this should should absolutely go out and and and read this book. But you'll learn very quickly when you study stock market history that it just repeats itself, and that's the most powerful tool you can have as an investor. Because if you just go in blind and you don't know anything about stock market history, every news article is gonna result in you panicking. But when you go back and you study, this is the exact same thing that would get reported 100 years ago, 75 years ago, 50 years ago, and it's still today, you're gonna have a totally different perspective on investing and you're gonna actually see things a lot more clearly. One of the things that Fisher talks about in his book is that the market, and this is not a surprise to anybody, but it's good to repeat this. The market has this collective pair of glasses that they put on, right? Everybody puts on the same glasses. And they look through certain stocks or industries with rose-tinted glasses or not at any given particular time. And that really influences the prices that are available in that moment. And it makes prices really wonky relative to what the stock is worth. So you wind up in situations where perfectly healthy companies who are producing massive amounts of free cash flow, growing at 20% a year like ServiceNow, get re-rated downward because everybody's got these glasses on that thinks that the AI is gonna kill ServiceNow or or some of these other platform companies. But if you have a long-term horizon and you and you study stock market history, you'll very quickly realize that, there are opportunities in volatile markets to make tremendous long-term investments, whether that's, something like ServiceNow or s or some other company that or industry that that you might find. That's I think a good history lesson for investors. And then, United Health Group is their third largest company. I've mentioned this a million times at this point, but that's just a, they just have to reprice their plans and then their margins will come back over a couple of years. Rena Sherbill: I'm wondering, would you say, would your answer be see above - I saw today that Hims & Hers is one of the top five most shorted healthcare stocks? Our quant system has a hold on it and you could see various grades of near failing grades. But would you say for the reasons that you just stated previously, that's why you're still holding it? And how would you encourage investors that fear the volatility, that fear the dip, that don't have that full conviction, how would you encourage them to think about that and stay true to to their strategy? Raul Shah: The short interest on HIMS is bizarre. I've actually never seen that before. It makes no sense. You've got a company growing, thirty, forty, fifty percent a year potentially, that's gonna be profitable very quickly and extremely profitable, super sticky subscription platform. Insiders own fifteen percent of the shares. balance sheet looks great. It doesn't make any sense. They're in a bunch of countries now that they were never in before. I think that it's funny. I think that you have a lot of people who do short term trading. HIMS is an extremely volatile stock. In fact, I saw a report, I think it was last year, that it was like one of the most volatile stocks in like the the mid caps. Or or it might have been the most volatile stocks, volatile stock. When you have traders and speculators on both sides of the coin, I mean you're gonna see certain situations like this that could arise where you've got a large large short interest in a company that is growing. But it's bizarre. I've been looking for two years to try and find a solution. I've got an investor group that I talk to pretty well connected. no one has an answer. I don't have an answer as to why it's so heavily shorted. They're dead wrong and they're gonna get murdered. But it just makes for basically pent up demand at this point that's gonna result in a lot of buying of shares. as far as conviction goes, nobody can give you conviction. And somebody could listen to this podcast or another podcast and they could hear somebody talk about a stock and and they might think, they might be, they might say, this guy really sounds like he knows what he's talking about. That this he likes this stock, maybe I should go buy that. That's a horrible idea. Because no matter how much you trust somebody else, you can never gain conviction unless you do the research yourself. Unless you see with your own two eyes, you read the balance sheet, you read the income statement, you look at the cash flow statement, you look at the market, you look at their growth, you look at the downside risk, the margin of safety, the valuations, you actually run the discounted cash flow analysis, you project their future cash flows, and you do all of these different things. Only then will you actually gain conviction. And it's incredibly hard to do that because it's time consuming and you need to have a very good disposition. You need to know what to look for so you aren't wasting your time reading an entire annual report for a bunch of 99% of fluff that doesn't even matter. it's a skill and it only gets sharpened the more that you use it. I remember reading something recently that I thought was quite interesting, which is that nobody would be their own lawyer, you would lose every lawsuit if you did that. But people want to be their own investor. In my personal opinion, I think it's as crazy as trying to be your own lawyer. It's a full-time job that requires a lot of skill and expertise and part of gaining that conviction is just having the skills and expertise and the experience to know what to look for. Rena Sherbill: Not to mention time, which is a precious commodity that most people don't have. yeah. Especially to to get enough value from the time that they're allocating. So just want to remind everybody to catch everybody up to date. This is our sixth episode. First one was thoughtful asset location, then Roth conversions, then mega backdoor Roth, then tack then tax loss harvesting, and then tax gain harvesting. And I know that we've had some questions and due to compliance issues, unfortunately, Raul Shah cannot answer those questions directly. So hit them up on DocShah Financial if you have personal questions. But if you have suggestions of topics to cover under the rubric of tax alpha, we would love to hear from you. So, Raul Shah, what are we talking about today? Raul Shah: We are talking about charitable giving today. And I'm going to clear up a bunch of misconceptions people have about how the wealthy give to charity and how you can give the charity and actually claim a tax deduction because people really think that there's loopholes and crazy things like that. And it's not. It's really simple. I'm gonna talk about two strategies that I use with clients. In fact, I just opened, I just did one of these with a client yesterday. We're gonna talk about donor advice funds. And then we're going to talk about qualified charitable distributions. What both of these are are different are two tax strategies that will allow you to give to charities that you want to support, but actually claim a tax benefit from doing so. We as people care about our fellow men and women out there in the world and we want to help everybody. And, we aren't giving to charity just for our own gain, our own benefit of maybe saving in taxes. We obviously care about the charity and all the cause they support, but we want to gain some kind of a tax benefit too, right? And there's nothing wrong with that. And the way that people go about it is is a little bit wrong. So what most people think is if they just give the charity that they get to take whatever they gave and deduct that from their taxes. Let's say you give a thousand dollars to the Salvation Army, that now your income is a thousand dollars lower because you can just deduct that. And it doesn't work that way. And the reason why is because in America, we have a standard deduction. The standard deduction if you're married filing jointly is thirty-two thousand two hundred dollars. If you're single, it's just half that. So sixteen thousand one hundred dollars. I'm gonna focus on married couples just for this example. So if you give to charity, you could deduct that, but you have to itemize your deductions. That means that you're gonna take whatever you gave to charity combined with medical payments that you maybe made that year or mortgage interest that you made that year. There's a certain group of individual things that if you collectively add them up and it's exceeds your standard deduction of $32,200, then you can itemize because you'd be able to claim a greater tax benefit. So for example, let's say that like your mortgage interest, some of your medical costs this year and what you gave the charity was forty thousand dollars. Well, then you don't want to take the standard deduction of thirty-two thousand two hundred dollars. You'd rather take the itemized deduction of $40,000 because you'll pay less tax if you do that. Most people don't give enough to charity to exceed the standard deduction. So there's two ways that we can go about solving this problem. Now, the first is a donor advice fund. And what I tell people to think about the DAF is what we call it, DAF, think about the DAF as like a bucket, like a like a charitable savings account. And you can put money or assets into the account and you get to take an immediate tax deduction that year. But then you can grant money to charity at any cadence that you want. So for example, like let's say that you give $5,000 to a specific charity every single year. Well, $5,000 doesn't exceed the standard deduction, so you wouldn't get any tax benefit if you just gave $5,000 a year. But what if you bunch like 10 years of donation into one year? So you put $50,000 in a donor advice fund. Now, you could itemize your deduction because fifty thousand dollars now you can deduct. That's more than the standard deduction. So you get a huge tax benefit in the year that you contribute. And you can still give five thousand to whatever charity you want over time, over ten years, right? In this example. So you're just bunching that deduction in one year. So you're just excuse, you're just bunching the contributions in one year so that you can claim a big deduction. Now, a qualified charitable distribution, and by the way, we're going to expand on this a lot more, but a qualified charitable distribution or QCD, I want you to think of that as like a bridge. And what that is, it's a direct bridge from your IRA to a charity. And so it's just a tax-free transfer from your IRA straight to a nonprofit, and it's only for retirees who are seventy and a half or older. I'll talk about some of the key differences and features right now to kind of help you understand the differences. Here's, just in in a nutshell, some of the differences. Donor advice funds are great for anyone, especially high earners, because you can bunch a lot of money into one big deduction in a year. donor advice funds, you you can put money in from anywhere. It could be cash, it could be stock, crypto, real estate, anything that you sell, for cash proceeds or even stock itself, you can put stock into that account. And that's actually a really nice way, to to give to a charity. And I'll talk about that a little bit later on. The only thing though is that the the donor advised fund does not count towards your RMD. So there's a lot of retirees out there who have to take required minimum distributions. It doesn't count towards that. Now if you look at a QCD on the other hand, okay, who is it for? Well it's not for anyone, it's only for IRA owners who are seventy and a half or older. The source of the funds can't be from anywhere. It's not like you can you can can put stock into your IRA and then send it out to a charity, right? It's just whatever's in that traditional IRA to begin with. That's the source of the funds. And there's an annual limit of $111,000 per person. There's no annual limit for a donor advise fund, although the deductions are subject to AGI limits, the adjusted gross income limits. Basically they cap how much you can deduct from your actual taxes. But the QCD counts towards your RMD or your required minimum distribution. So if you're writing a check straight from your IRA to a charity, you actually can satisfy your required minimum distribution with that check. And so it's a really wonderful way to help retirees save a lot of money in taxes when they're being forced to take money out of their IRA, but they don't even need it for whatever reason. It's a really good strategy for that. I was thinking too, at this point, it might help to go through a couple of examples if that sounds good. So we'll start with donor advice funds. Again, the concept here is very simple. It's give now, pass it out later. That's how you think about the donor advice fund. And the reason people use it is because it solves the bunching problem, right? Because standard deductions are so high, donating small amounts every year gets zero tax benefit. So the donor advice fund lets you pile multiple years of giving into one single tax year to get a huge deduction. And then hand the money out to charities at whatever your usual schedule is. So let's say we've got someone named Sarah, and Sarah's 45 years old, and she either has a high income or she sold stock with a huge capital gain. If she gets $5,000 a year normally to local shelters, instead of her giving $5,000 each year and getting no tax benefit from it, she could put potentially $25,000 of stock into the donor advice fund today. She would get an immediate tax deduction of $25,000. And if she combines that with, let's say, her mortgage interest and it exceeds the standard deduction, then she's gonna wind up getting a huge tax benefit from putting money in the donor advice fund. Now, if we look at QCDs, right, the concept here is a little bit different. Basically, you're bypassing the tax return entirely. And so why do people use it? Well, once you turn 73 or 75, depending on your birth year the IRS forces you to take required minimum distributions from your IRA account. The IRA account, when you're taking money out of it, it's just counted as income. So the more you take out of that account because of your RMDs, the higher your income goes, the higher your tax bracket goes, the higher the taxes you pay. What the QCD does is remember, it's a bridge. So it just lets you send money directly from your IRA to the charity instead of you taking it for yourself. And it still counts towards your RMD. But it never shows up as taxable income for you because you sent it to the charity and not your own bank account. So if we use an example here, let's say we've got somebody named Tom who's 75, and let's say that he's got a $20,000 RMD that he has to satisfy this year. If he doesn't need the money to live on, but sorry, if it let's assume that he doesn't need the money to live on, if he takes it in cash, that 20,000 RMD, he's gonna get taxed on it as income. So instead, what he does is he tells his IRA custodian, to be Fidelity or Schwab or Vanguard, just write the check for $20,000 directly to his alma mater or some other charity. He gets to satisfy his mandatory RMD, but his taxable income never goes up because the RMD didn't go to him, the QCD just went to the charity. Those are the two examples that kind of explain the different strategies. And you can't mix the two, right? Like a lot of mistake that listeners will make is they'll try to move money from an IRA via a QCD straight to a donor advice fund. You can't do that. The IRS bans it. and at the end of the day, the the the main difference here is that QCDs technically are are better than donor advised funds because QCD, what they're doing is they're offsetting income tax, whereas a donor advice fund is just offsetting capital gains tax if you're contributing stock, which is generally a lot lower than your income tax. But they're both really, really good strategies. And there's a couple of nuances that we'll get into, Really one of the big nuances here, and that comes with donor advice funds, and it's the tax deduction limit. So if you put a million dollars into a donor advice fund, you can't actually deduct a million dollars from your income. There's actually a limit on what you can deduct. And that limit is dependent on if you contributed cash to the donor advice fund or stock or property to the donor advice fund. If you put cash in the donor advised funds too, like you just put $50,000 in cash, it's you're limited in how much you can deduct in that year. It's 60% of your adjusted gross income. If you put stock in the account in the donor advised fund, you're actually limited to 30% of your adjusted gross income in terms of what you can deduct for tax purposes. Now everything else above that carries forward for five years. But let's just use an example here. So let's say that if your your adjusted gross income for the year is $100,000. That means that you could deduct up to $60,000 from your taxes if you give a cash gift to a donor advice fund. Or you can deduct up to $30,000 in appreciated stock if that's what you gave to a donor advice fund. And again, it's very nuanced because there's another layer to this too, which is that you might think, okay, if I give appreciated stock, I don't get to claim as much of a tax benefit. And that is true. But you have to keep in mind that if you're donating a stock that's appreciated significantly in value, like let's say you bought Apple (AAPL) stock for 10,000 10 years ago and now it's at $100,000. Well, if you're donating money that's if you're donating appreciated stock, you actually get a tax break because that stock, the capital gain gets wiped out when you give it to the donor advice fund. So not only do you get the tax deduction of what you put in that donor advice fund, but you also get to wipe out the capital gains tax. So there's actually a double tax benefit if you donate stock versus if you donate cash. and most of the time, there's no expiration date. Some custodians might have like a limit, like they might be like, hey, come on, you gotta give some get give some money out. But for the most time there's no expiration date. And I guess the only other nuance that I can think of off the top of my head is that QCDs, so when you're taking money from your IRA straight to the charity, they have what's called a first dollars out rule. So if you take your RMD out in cash earlier in the year, you can't retrofit it into a QCD later. So the IRS treats first money withdrawn from your IRA each year as the RMD. So you always want to make sure that you execute the QCD before taking any cash distributions. In terms of risk involved, at the end of the day, there's not necessarily a ton of risk in you utilizing these strategies to give to charity. It's more a question of reporting things right, making sure that you run the numbers so it's advantageous for your situation. That can be quite complicated. It's very good to work with somebody who who specializes in that. I do this for clients all the time. So I always tell people, whether it's me or somebody else, make sure you have professional to help you map out the numbers because you don't want to screw this up and get into problems. Tax planning is very nuanced so the risk involved with it, especially in this case, is not so much, giving the charity. It's just reporting it right and making sure that it's actually advantageous and you got to run the numbers to do that. I would say there's a common mistake that people make in general, and that's letting the tax tail wag the dog. So I have a joke, there are people out there that would turn down a bonus at their job because they're say that their taxes are gonna go up. And it's like, well, that doesn't make sense because your income is going up too. So you're left with more money at the end of the day, even if your taxes go up. And so, don't let the tax tail wag the dog. Don't make decisions in life solely based off of taxes. make sure that when you're doing tax strategies, you're doing it for the right reasons. So in this case, you don't want to just give to charities maybe for causes that you don't necessarily believe in or have conviction in because you're trying to save money in taxes. You want to do it in reverse. Find those charities and those causes that you really care about, that you really want to support. And then if you can find a way to make it advantageous for you from a tax planning perspective using one of these two strategies, then you go forward and do it. So make sure you put the cart before the horse is all I would say. Rena Sherbill: Raul, by the way, has a slew of recent articles on Seeking Alpha. So follow Raul Shah on Seeking Alpha. While the Rest of the Market Focuses on the Anthropic IPO, These Are My Top 2 Stocks to Buy in November | FMP Stock News
|
Original source text
The biggest stock market news in November will likely be the initial public offering of Anthropic, which is likely to happen sometime before Thanksgiving. There will be a lot of fanfare and enthusiasm surrounding Anthropic stock when it goes public, but I expect it will eventually fade, much like what happened after Space Exploration Technologies' IPO earlier this year. However, two companies that have strong business relationships with Anthropic look like fantastic investments now: Nvidia (NVDA +2.29%) and Broadcom (AVGO +3.07%). Both stocks look highly attractive, and I think investors should pick up shares of them in November rather than waiting for Anthropic to debut. Image source: Getty Images. Anthropic is a major customer of Nvidia and Broadcom Nvidia and Broadcom both make AI computing units. Nvidia makes graphics processing units (GPUs), while Broadcom makes custom AI chips. The companies are competing for shares of the same market in data centers, but there is plenty of room for both to succeed, and each chipmaker tackles a different problem. Nvidia's GPUs are the industry standard in AI computing. They work well in nearly every application where heavy parallel processing power is the key requirement, making them highly flexible and repurposable for an array of computationally intense tasks. However, because they're not optimized for any one task, they're less cost-efficient when placed in servers where they'll be handling just one type of workload for their entire lifespan. NVDA Nvidia$206.69+$4.63 (+2.29%) NASDAQ · As of 4:00 PM ET 11/03/26 That's where a custom AI computing unit from Broadcom makes a lot of sense. Instead of offering a flexible, one-size-fits-all chip, it partners directly with hyperscalers to design AI chips that are tailored to their specific workloads. While Anthropic isn't designing its own chips right now, it is using chips co-designed by Alphabet (Google's parent company) and Broadcom. Those Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) can outperform GPUs from a cost perspective on some types of AI workloads, which makes them an attractive choice for Anthropic. Sometimes, it's better to own the supplier's stock rather than the customer's, and I think that's the case here. Broadcom and Nvidia already have an established business with huge profit margins and high growth. With Anthropic, it's more important to remember that not every promising, fast-growing company manages to make the pivot to long-term profitability. AVGO Broadcom$332.13+$9.90 (+3.07%) NASDAQ · As of 4:00 PM ET 11/03/26 Fortunately, both Broadcom and Nvidia are priced pretty attractively right now, making them excellent buys. Nvidia and Broadcom have no 2027 growth priced into their stocks Nvidia and Broadcom may be the poster children of the AI processor segment, but the market has shown no respect for their 2027 growth prospects. If we utilize next year's earnings projections to value these stocks, they trade at massive discounts to their current trailing price-to-earnings ratios. NVDA PE Ratio data by YCharts. The question is, what is a fair P/E ratio to pay for these two? I think something like 30 times trailing earnings is a fair price to pay. So, if Nvidia hits its earnings projections for next year, the stock could rise by over 100%. For Broadcom to trade at that level a year from now, it would have to almost double. Those are returns that are staring investors in the face, while there is far less clarity about what Anthropic's future might look like. Broadcom and Nvidia look well positioned to have huge years in 2027, and their shareholders don't face the types of risks that come with investing in a newly public company. As a result, I think Broadcom and Nvidia are the two best stocks to buy in the market in November, and investors shouldn't wait around too long to take advantage of their low prices, as they could start to soar as the market looks ahead to 2027. |
