SummaryCompaniesCorgi has launched 88 ETFs since December, including a record 34 in a single dayA single photonics ETF accounts for nearly half of Corgi's $562 million assetsAnalysts said Corgi faces a battle for market share despite lower fees and backing from Y CombinatorPROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, June 22 (Reuters) - It took more than a decade for BlackRock, the world's largest issuer of exchange-traded funds, to launch its first 300 products.
Corgi Investments, the venture-capital-based asset manager, plans to repeat that feat in less than a year, the company tells Reuters.

Corgi's explosion onto the scene and its ambitious goal reflect the U.S. exchange-traded fund market itself, which has never been bigger or more crowded. In the first five months of 2026 alone, ETFs pulled in a record $837 billion in assets, according to ETFGI, an industry group, putting it on track to top $2 trillion in inflows this year. The number of funds is also exploding, with 148 launched in May alone.
Nearly a third of them came from Corgi.
"We're not super worried that this is a market with no room for new players," said Emily Yuan, co-founder of Corgi and chief operating officer of its parent company, the two-year-old AI-powered insurance company Corgi Insurance, which a financing round last month valued at $2.6 billion.
"Our thesis is that if you make good products that provide value, the money will come."
The money certainly has flowed into at least one of the 88 (and still counting) ETFs that Corgi has rolled out since it introduced its first product last December. The Corgi Lithography & Semiconductor Photonics ETF (EUV.Z), opens new tab, one of 34 funds it launched May 6 - at the time the largest ever one-day group launch - already has pulled in $273 million in assets, according to VettaFi. Corgi went on to launch 35 more funds on June 2.
But the photonics fund is an anomaly. Corgi's runner-up, a leveraged ETF designed to deliver double the return of an index composed of founder-led companies launched in January, has attracted $20 million, while others hover around $3 million to $6 million, a more typical range for just-launched ETFs. The photonics ETF accounts for more than half of Corgi's $562 million in assets, VettaFi data shows.
Some market analysts say that Corgi may face an uphill battle in winning market share in a hyper-competitive market with few barriers to entry but a growing array of obstacles to success, in spite of high-profile backers like Silicon Valley startup accelerator Y Combinator. It provided startup financing to companies like Airbnb (ABNB.O), opens new tab, payment processor Stripe, and DoorDash (DASH.O), opens new tab and has anchored Corgi's financing rounds.
"Corgi is an unknown brand to financial advisors, who steer a lot of assets into ETFs, and trust doesn't happen overnight," said Nate Geraci, president of NovaDius Wealth Management and a veteran ETF analyst. Nor, Geraci added, does their current lineup of thematic, leveraged and buffer ETFs break new ground.
"Clearly, their goal is to flood the zone with lower-cost options and hope that competitive fee structure is compelling enough to allow a strategic number to stick around," Geraci said.
For instance, the Corgi Magnificent 7 ETF (CMAG.Z), opens new tab, which offers exposure to mega-cap technology companies like Nvidia (NVDA.O), opens new tab and Tesla (TSLA.O), opens new tab, has a 0.2% fee, undercutting the 0.3% levied by Roundhill Investments' Roundhill Magnificent 7 (MAGS.Z), opens new tab.
"What we’re able to do is be a disruptor in this world, by building low-cost ETFs in house and finding a way to be profitable at a lower level of assets than a firm that has to pay a white-label provider to develop their products," said Edward Rumell, an ETF industry veteran who joined Corgi as its head of distribution at the beginning of this year.
When discussing the job with Corgi's founders, Rumell had already been startled by the pace at which Corgi was filing for the go-ahead to roll out new products and confesses he was unfamiliar with the "Y Combinator/Silicon Valley vibe" at Corgi. The firm boasts a 24-hour cafe on its premises - open to the public - and its assets include an actual Corgi dog, Trudy, for whose care employees are responsible.
"I'm the oldest member of the team, by at least 10 if not 20 years," acknowledges the 50-year-old Rumell.
But his nine-person team brings a new set of skills to developing, launching and marketing ETFs, Rumell adds, one that he said is increasingly important in the evolving investment environment.
"They're social media-savvy; they grew up trading on Robinhood (HOOD.O), opens new tab and understand how younger retail investors think about the market and using platforms like X and Reddit to reach them."
Whether or not that kind of young social-media-focused team gives Corgi an edge will be pivotal, said Todd Sohn, ETF analyst at Strategas.
"New players in the ETF ecosphere are coming either from the asset management industry, like MFS Investment Management, or are companies created by ETF industry veterans that focus on a particular niche," Sohn said. Corgi, he added, strikes him as "an anomaly."
"They are going to face a battle to position themselves and demonstrate that they have the connections they'll need to grow assets" or they will have to face closing down a large percentage of the dramatic number of new ETFs rather rapidly, Sohn said.
"They'll need to outhustle their rivals for this to work."
Yuan and Rumell said they plan to do just that.
"What we are doing is what we think is good for the market - to move fast, to disrupt business as usual," said Yuan. "So we might just as well do it."

Upstart (UPST +0.70%), an AI-powered online lending marketplace, went public at $20 in Dec. 2020. It soared to a record high of $390 in Oct. 2021, but it now trades at about $31. Let's see why Upstart's stock pulled back -- and why it could struggle if interest rates stay high.
Why is Upstart dependent on low interest rates? Upstart isn't a traditional lender. It's an AI-powered middleman that approves loans for banks, credit unions, and auto dealerships. Rather than analyzing traditional data like an applicant's credit score, credit history, or annual income, Upstart reviews non-traditional data points -- including previous jobs, standardized test scores, and GPAs -- to approve a wider range of loans for younger and lower-income applicants with limited credit histories. It generates most of its revenue by taking a referral fee on each approved loan.

Upstart's growth can be gauged by its originated loans, conversion rate (the percentage of inquiries that lead to approved loans), contribution margin (the percentage of its fees it retains as revenue), and total revenue growth. Its business flourished in 2020 and 2021, when interest rates were near zero, but floundered in 2022 and 2023 after the Fed's 11 consecutive rate hikes.

Data source: Upstart. *Retroactively adjusted in 2025.
In 2024 and 2025, Upstart's growth accelerated again after six interest rate cuts. But in 2026, the Fed left its rates unchanged at 3.50%-3.75% through four Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meetings. With inflation hitting a three-year high in May, many analysts now anticipate rate hikes instead of rate cuts in the second half of the year.
What's next for Upstart? In its first-quarter report in early May, Upstart reiterated its prior outlook for 40% revenue growth in 2026 and a 35% CAGR from 2025 to 2028. It also expects its adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) margin to improve from negative 21% in 2026 to positive 25% in 2028. That's an optimistic outlook, but its stock has declined nearly 50% over the past 12 months, presumably because investors are bracing for rate hikes.
Upstart is in a stronger position than it was back in 2022 and 2023, thanks to more than $4 billion in committed forward-flow capital from alternative asset managers. Even if interest rates rise, those institutions are obligated to keep buying Upstart's loans for up to 24 months. It also generates more of its revenue from secure, collateralized auto and HELOC loans rather than the unsecured personal loans that nearly sank its business three years ago.
With an enterprise value of $3.4 billion, Upstart still looks cheap at three times this year's sales. Unfortunately, it will remain out of favor until the fear of interest rate hikes subsides.

Is GLW Overvalued or Undervalued? Corning Inc's current price of $194.92 is substantially higher than the GF Value™ estimate of $60.46, which indicates that GLW shares are trading at a significant premium. The 222.4% overvaluation implies a substantial margin of safety for potential investors, as the market price far exceeds the intrinsic value determined by the GF Value™ methodology. GF Value™ is GuruFocus' proprietary measure of intrinsic value, calculated from historical trading multiples, past business growth, and future performance estimates. Given this context, GLW is categorized under the GF Valuation label of "Significantly Overvalued."
The risk associated with investing in GLW at this price level is considerable. As the stock is trading at such a high multiple compared to its intrinsic value, any negative news or market corrections could lead to significant losses for current shareholders. Conversely, if GLW continues to demonstrate robust financial growth and profitability, there could be potential for price appreciation, but this would require sustained performance against high expectations.
How Does GLW's Valuation Compare to Its History? Metric Current Historical P/E (TTM) 93.3x 45.4x Forward P/E 61.1x N/A The current P/E ratio of 93.3x is significantly above the 5-year median P/E of 45.4x, indicating that GLW is trading at a much higher valuation than it has historically. Metric Rating GF Score™ 69/100 Financial Strength 6/10 Profitability 7/10 Growth 8/10 Valuation 1/10 Momentum 3/10 The GF Score™ of 69/100 indicates that Corning Inc has an above-average potential for long-term returns. The strength of the company lies in its profitability (7/10) and growth (8/10) rankings, which reflect solid operational performance and the ability to expand. However, the valuation rank of 1/10 highlights a significant concern, suggesting that the stock is not priced favorably relative to its intrinsic value. The momentum rank of 3/10 further indicates that while the stock has shown recent positive performance, the longer-term trend may not be as robust as desired.
What Are Insiders Doing with GLW Stock? There are several factors driving this strong and consistent improvement in profitability. Optical Communications remains Corning’s biggest growth engine. Strong hyperscale data-center investments and growing demand for GenAI networking infrastructure led to a 36% year over year growth in revenue in this segment. Along with strong demand, productivity improvement across operations led to 93% growth in net income in this segment.
Its solar business is also scaling rapidly. Despite declining net income in recent quarters due to wafer-ramp inefficiencies and startup costs, the profitability in solar business is projected to improve in upcoming quarters. The company is steadily optimizing its portfolio and gradually shifting its focus towards higher-growth, higher-value products to enhance overall profitability.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, June 17, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- TDG Gold Corp. (“TDG” or the “Company”) (TSXV: TDG | OTCQX: TDGGF) is pleased to provide an update on the ongoing metallurgical test work being completed by Base Met Labs, managed by Ausenco Engineering Canada ULC (“Ausenco”). Test work to date has demonstrated the amenability of the Shasta deposit, METS prospect and Baker tailings mineralization to a simple, conventional gravity and flotation process that produces gold-silver sulphide concentrates.
This test work is a key component to support the previously announced Preliminary Economic Assessment (“PEA”) on its 100%-owned Shasta Gold-Silver Project (“Shasta” or the “Project”), located within the Greater Shasta-Newberry Project area in the Toodoggone District of north-central British Columbia. Ausenco has been appointed as lead consultant for the PEA.
2026 Metallurgical Test Work Highlights:
Average recoveries of 92.4% gold and 90.3% silver achieved using conventional gravity and open circuit flotation methods.Up to 25% of gold recovered through gravity concentration prior to flotation, reducing downstream processing requirements and potentially improving payabilities.Over 91% recovery of both gold and silver demonstrated in locked-cycle testing.Simple gravity + flotation-based flowsheet selected as the preferred processing route following trade-off analysis.Coarse grind size of 80% passing 150 µm (“P80”) supports potential lower operating costs and favourable tailings dewatering and placement characteristics.Consistent results across the deposits and low impurities in the concentrates further de-risks future development studies.Significant silver contribution (~38%) in the recovered metal value in the tested Shasta composites. "Shasta’s metallurgical performance compares favourably with many advanced-stage epithermal gold-silver projects in British Columbia, achieving greater than 90% recoveries for both gold and silver through a conventional flotation process while maintaining a very low concentrate mass pull,” commented Fletcher Morgan, TDG’s CEO. “The concentrate generated from locked-cycle testing contained 45.4% sulphur at a mass pull of only 1.4%, (Table 1), demonstrating highly selective recovery of sulphide-hosted gold and silver mineralization. Furthermore, silver contributes approximately 35–40% of the recovered metal value in the tested Shasta composites, highlighting the project's meaningful silver exposure alongside the gold production."

Low Impurity Mineralization
Multi-element ICP and whole rock analyses were completed on the samples that informed the test work. Samples have demonstrated low copper concentrations, generally less than 100 ppm, except for the Baker TSF (Tails-2 sample), which returned 286 ppm. Arsenic concentrations were below 12 ppm for all samples except the METS and Tails-2 samples which measured 18 and 20 ppm, respectively. No other elements of interest or concern were measured at significant levels.
Shasta Metallurgical Evaluation – 2026 Program
A total of 13 samples of continuous ½ drill core intervals were selected from 12 Shasta drill holes from the 2021 and 2022 drilling programs. The samples represent material that is within the mineral resource that is potentially amenable to open pit mining, covering a range of spatial locations.
The recent metallurgical testing evaluated flotation recovery as a function of primary grind size, regrinding and cleaner circuit requirements, as well as variability response to a proposed flowsheet. The bulk of the development testing was conducted on Master Composites MC1 and MC2, and a locked cycle test was conducted on MC1.
The flowsheet included a primary grind size target of 150µm P80, gravity concentration followed by conventional flotation, moderate dosages of PAX as a collector, natural pulp pH, and regrinding of the rougher concentrate to approximately 25µm P80 followed by 3 stages of cleaning. Rougher flotation performance was acceptable at coarser primary grind sizes, however a trade-off study confirmed that additional ball mill grinding requirements were justified for the incremental gains in precious metal recovery.
The proposed flowsheet was applied to the variability samples as gravity plus open circuit cleaner flotation tests.
The open circuit results from the variability samples and three master composites averaged 92.4% gold recovery and 90.3% silver recovery. On average, 25% of the gold and 12% of the silver were recovered to the gravity concentrate. There did not appear to be a clear trend of gold or silver recovery to feed grade. There was a slight positive relationship of silver recovery to sulphur content in the feed, but not for gold.
Most of the open circuit cleaner tests required only two stages of cleaning to achieve the final concentrate grade. Concentrate quality clearly trended with ratios of gold and silver to sulphur contents in the feed (g/t to %). Rougher flotation concentrates were reground to achieve an average cleaner circuit feed sizing of 25µm P80.
Potential Concentrate Quality
The average concentrate grade of the open circuit data set was 47 g/t gold, 2,005 g/t silver and 41.8% sulphur. On average, 91.1% of the sulphur was recovered to the combined final concentrates. Impurity concentrations were not measured on the concentrates and are in progress on the MC1 locked cycle concentrate. Based on the sulphur concentration ratios and arsenic feed grades, the highest arsenic content in the variability concentrates would be ~0.07%, which is well below levels that would typically incur penalties.
Baker TSF Samples
Eight auger samples were utilized that provide spatial coverage across the historical Baker tailings impoundment, material that is being considered for reprocessing in potential future operations. Two composites were assembled, representing high and low sulphur zones within the impoundment.
Gravity plus rougher flotation tests were conducted on the two historical tailings samples, following a small amount of laboratory rod mill grinding as the materials were somewhat coarser than the target flotation feed size. After initial tests which indicated compromised sulphur kinetics, the tests were repeated with higher PAX dosages of 50 g/t. On average, 68% of the gold and 61% of the silver were recovered to combined gravity plus rougher flotation concentrates. Based on cleaner flotation performance of the Shasta samples, the recoveries to final concentrates could decrease to approximately 66% and 59% following cleaner circuit upgrading. Additional testing is planned.
High Grade METS Prospect Demonstrates Positive Recoveries
Assay reject samples from three drill holes in the METS mining lease A-Zone were provided and formed into a single composite. A preliminary metallurgical test was conducted on the METS sample, which recovered 83.8% of the gold and 71.8% of the silver to a combined gravity plus rougher flotation concentrate. Only 13.6% of the feed gold was recovered by gravity, however the Mozley table gravity concentrate was quite high grade, measuring 1,106 g/t gold. Additional testing is in progress on these materials with the objective of optimizing recoveries.
Comminution Testing Results
Comminution testing was conducted on eight of the Shasta variability samples, which indicated that the material was of medium hardness with respect to impact breakage in a SAG mill and very hard with respect to ball mill grinding. The materials are moderately abrasive as indicated by the Bond abrasion index value.

When deciding whether to buy, sell, or hold a stock, investors often rely on analyst recommendations. Media reports about rating changes by these brokerage-firm-employed (or sell-side) analysts often influence a stock's price, but are they really important?
Let's take a look at what these Wall Street heavyweights have to say about DraftKings (DKNG - Free Report) before we discuss the reliability of brokerage recommendations and how to use them to your advantage.
DraftKings currently has an average brokerage recommendation (ABR) of 1.63, on a scale of 1 to 5 (Strong Buy to Strong Sell), calculated based on the actual recommendations (Buy, Hold, Sell, etc.) made by 36 brokerage firms. An ABR of 1.63 approximates between Strong Buy and Buy.
Of the 36 recommendations that derive the current ABR, 24 are Strong Buy and three are Buy. Strong Buy and Buy respectively account for 66.7% and 8.3% of all recommendations.

The ABR suggests buying DraftKings, but making an investment decision solely on the basis of this information might not be a good idea. According to several studies, brokerage recommendations have little to no success guiding investors to choose stocks with the most potential for price appreciation.
Do you wonder why? As a result of the vested interest of brokerage firms in a stock they cover, their analysts tend to rate it with a strong positive bias. According to our research, brokerage firms assign five "Strong Buy" recommendations for every "Strong Sell" recommendation.
This means that the interests of these institutions are not always aligned with those of retail investors, giving little insight into the direction of a stock's future price movement. It would therefore be best to use this information to validate your own analysis or a tool that has proven to be highly effective at predicting stock price movements.
With an impressive externally audited track record, our proprietary stock rating tool, the Zacks Rank, which classifies stocks into five groups, ranging from Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) to Zacks Rank #5 (Strong Sell), is a reliable indicator of a stock's near-term price performance. So, validating the Zacks Rank with ABR could go a long way in making a profitable investment decision.
Zacks Rank Should Not Be Confused With ABRAlthough both Zacks Rank and ABR are displayed in a range of 1--5, they are different measures altogether.
Broker recommendations are the sole basis for calculating the ABR, which is typically displayed in decimals (such as 1.28). The Zacks Rank, on the other hand, is a quantitative model designed to harness the power of earnings estimate revisions. It is displayed in whole numbers -- 1 to 5.
Analysts employed by brokerage firms have been and continue to be overly optimistic with their recommendations. Since the ratings issued by these analysts are more favorable than their research would support because of the vested interest of their employers, they mislead investors far more often than they guide.
In contrast, the Zacks Rank is driven by earnings estimate revisions. And near-term stock price movements are strongly correlated with trends in earnings estimate revisions, according to empirical research.
Furthermore, the different grades of the Zacks Rank are applied proportionately across all stocks for which brokerage analysts provide earnings estimates for the current year. In other words, at all times, this tool maintains a balance among the five ranks it assigns.
There is also a key difference between the ABR and Zacks Rank when it comes to freshness. When you look at the ABR, it may not be up-to-date. Nonetheless, since brokerage analysts constantly revise their earnings estimates to reflect changing business trends, and their actions get reflected in the Zacks Rank quickly enough, it is always timely in predicting future stock prices.
Should You Invest in DKNG?In terms of earnings estimate revisions for DraftKings, the Zacks Consensus Estimate for the current year has remained unchanged over the past month at $1.15.
Analysts' steady views regarding the company's earnings prospects, as indicated by an unchanged consensus estimate, could be a legitimate reason for the stock to perform in line with the broader market in the near term.
The size of the recent change in the consensus estimate, along with three other factors related to earnings estimates, has resulted in a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) for DraftKings. You can see the complete list of today's Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) stocks here >>>>
It may therefore be prudent to be a little cautious with the Buy-equivalent ABR for DraftKings.
DKNG stock gains 12% in three months as Sportsbook momentum and improving profitability lift sentiment. Yet, heavy Predictions investments warrant caution.
DraftKings (DKNG - Free Report) closed at $25.70 in the latest trading session, marking a -2.61% move from the prior day. The stock fell short of the S&P 500, which registered a loss of 0.37% for the day. On the other hand, the Dow registered a gain of 0.29%, and the technology-centric Nasdaq decreased by 1.33%.
Shares of the company have appreciated by 5.06% over the course of the past month, outperforming the Consumer Discretionary sector's gain of 1.15%, and the S&P 500's gain of 2.02%.
The investment community will be paying close attention to the earnings performance of DraftKings in its upcoming release. The company is forecasted to report an EPS of $0.34, showcasing a 10.53% downward movement from the corresponding quarter of the prior year. At the same time, our most recent consensus estimate is projecting a revenue of $1.57 billion, reflecting a 3.85% rise from the equivalent quarter last year.
For the full year, the Zacks Consensus Estimates project earnings of $1.15 per share and a revenue of $6.8 billion, demonstrating changes of +74.24% and +12.38%, respectively, from the preceding year.
It's also important for investors to be aware of any recent modifications to analyst estimates for DraftKings. These recent revisions tend to reflect the evolving nature of short-term business trends. As a result, we can interpret positive estimate revisions as a good sign for the business outlook.
Empirical research indicates that these revisions in estimates have a direct correlation with impending stock price performance. We developed the Zacks Rank to capitalize on this phenomenon. Our system takes these estimate changes into account and delivers a clear, actionable rating model.
The Zacks Rank system, spanning from #1 (Strong Buy) to #5 (Strong Sell), boasts an impressive track record of outperformance, audited externally, with #1 ranked stocks yielding an average annual return of +25% since 1988. The Zacks Consensus EPS estimate remained stagnant within the past month. As of now, DraftKings holds a Zacks Rank of #3 (Hold).
From a valuation perspective, DraftKings is currently exchanging hands at a Forward P/E ratio of 22.9. This valuation marks a premium compared to its industry average Forward P/E of 16.91.
The Gaming industry is part of the Consumer Discretionary sector. This industry, currently bearing a Zacks Industry Rank of 165, finds itself in the bottom 33% echelons of all 250+ industries.
The Zacks Industry Rank gauges the strength of our industry groups by measuring the average Zacks Rank of the individual stocks within the groups. Our research shows that the top 50% rated industries outperform the bottom half by a factor of 2 to 1.

Key Takeaways PLAY posted weaker Q1 results, with lower revenues, EPS miss and a 5.4% comparable sales decline.PLAY is resetting promotions after dollar-per-day messaging fell short and new offers gained traction.PLAY sees new games, food momentum, remodels and World Cup activations as key traffic drivers. Dave & Buster’s Entertainment, Inc. (PLAY - Free Report) used its first-quarter fiscal 2026 call to acknowledge a weak start while arguing that the bigger story is a business reset built around games, value, food and beverage, and remodels.
Management’s message was clear: Q1 disappointed, but the company believes the pieces are now in place to improve same-store sales through the rest of fiscal 2026 and deliver more than $100 million in free cash flow.
PLAY Confronts a Soft QuarterCEO Tarun Lal said first-quarter results came in below both internal expectations and the outlook management had set previously. He pointed to a softer macro backdrop in April, including pressure on consumer sentiment, but also said the company was not using that as an excuse.
The reported numbers were weak enough to keep the pressure on management. Adjusted earnings per share came in at $0.22, below the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $0.37, resulting in a negative earnings surprise of 40.5%. Revenues of $559.2 million missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $571.1 million by 2.1%.
Comparable store sales fell 5.4% in the first quarter, revenues declined 1.5% year over year, and adjusted EBITDA slipped to $123.2 million from $136.1 million a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA margin also narrowed to 22% from 24%.
Dave & Buster’s Reworks Its Value MessageLal said one of the clearest lessons from the quarter was that the company’s dollar-per-day messaging did not resonate as expected. He said the company has since pivoted to promotions that are proving more compelling with customers.
Management described the marketing reset as broader than a single campaign. Lal said Dave & Buster’s is simplifying its promotional calendar, leaning more heavily on data-driven media mix decisions, and trying to strike a better balance between television and digital rather than swinging too far in either direction.
In Q&A, a BMO Capital Markets analyst pressed for more detail on what changed. Lal stated that the current message hierarchy is more disciplined, with 10 new games now serving as the primary message and the World Cup watch experience as a secondary one.
PLAY Sees Traction in Food and GamesWhile entertainment remained soft, management highlighted food and beverage as an early proof point. Lal said comparable food and beverage sales rose about 5% in Q1, extending a run of nine straight months of positive same-store sales in that part of the business.
Lal credited the return to a historically proven menu and stronger execution of the Eat & Play Combo. CFO Darin Harper added that attach trends have improved, helping the company target value-conscious guests without overdiscounting the broader business.
Games are the bigger strategic swing. Lal said the company rolled out 10 new games, the most since 2017, and expects at least five more over the rest of fiscal 2026. He framed that as a direct response to guest feedback that the arcade floor had lacked enough newness.
Dave & Buster’s Pins Hopes on Traffic DriversManagement repeatedly returned to the idea that new games are meant to drive visits first and spending second. In response to a Texas Capital Securities analyst, Harper said the refresh should be viewed mainly as a way to restore relevance, reengage lapsed guests, and support traffic rather than simply lift in-store game spend.
Lal also tied the second-half outlook to still-unannounced intellectual property partnerships, saying those deals should help put the brand back into consumer conversation. That confidence sounded firmer in Q&A than in the prepared remarks.
The World Cup is another near-term catalyst. Management said the company launched a full activation around watch parties, themed food and drinks, soccer-inspired games, and promotional ticket giveaways tied to marquee matches.
PLAY Stays Focused on Cash and CapexDespite the weak quarter, Harper said the company generated $25.3 million of adjusted free cash flow compared with a negative $58.8 million a year earlier. Available liquidity ended the quarter at $499.1 million.
Management is pairing that cash focus with stricter capital discipline. Lal reiterated that net capital expenditures should not exceed $200 million in fiscal 2026, down from about $270 million in fiscal 2025, while free cash flow should still top $100 million this year.
The call also made clear that capital allocation is shifting. Lal and Harper said the core store base now takes priority, with remodels, deleveraging and shareholder returns all competing for dollars that might otherwise have gone to faster unit growth.
Dave & Buster’s Narrows Its PrioritiesPrepared remarks and Q&A both pointed to a tighter operating playbook. Management emphasized speed of service, more disciplined marketing, better value architecture, and a remodel program that costs about half as much as prior versions while still producing about a 7% comp uplift.
Harper said six remodels have already been completed, with two more expected in fiscal 2026. He also said the company could open about half as many new units in fiscal 2027 as it refocuses spending on the existing base.
Coming out of the call, management’s stance was not celebratory. It was more a case that the quarter exposed what was not working, and that the company now wants investors to judge it on execution against a narrower set of priorities over the balance of the year.
Zacks Signals on PLAYPLAY carries a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell), alongside Value Score A, Growth Score B, Momentum Score A and VGM Score A. Zacks says a Style Score is meant to complement, not override, the Zacks Rank, with the rank remaining the first screen because earnings estimate revisions are the most important driver in the system.
That leaves PLAY with a mixed signal. The style profile points to favorable value, growth and momentum characteristics, but Zacks’ framework says investors should not buy stocks rated Zacks Rank #4 or 5 (Strong Sell) even when each Style Score is strong. That ranking can still change as estimate revisions move following the latest results.
You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here.
Dave & Buster’s NASDAQ: PLAY price action is not inspiring for bulls. The stock has trended lower for over two years and could continue to decline. The Q1 earnings release failed to meet expectations, setting the stage for new lows.
The caveat is that PLAY stock is already trading at historically low levels, aligning with lows plumbed during the height of COVID-19 fear, and there are signs of traction in the release.

While comps remain an issue, the Back-to-Basics strategy is improving food sales and cash flow metrics, which are central to the stock price outlook. In this scenario, PLAY’s downtrend is played out, and price recovery lies ahead.
Dave & Buster’s Reverts to Free Cash Flow in Q1Dave & Buster’s is a growth story gone awry, but it is also trying to become a recovery and capital return story. The company has historically used cash flow to fund opportunistic share repurchases, which remain in play if the turnaround gains traction. While Q1 results failed to meet expectations, Dave & Buster’s reported a small quarterly profit and returned to positive adjusted free cash flow. The result was modest compared with prior periods, but it was enough to help the company build cash despite continued investment in new stores and remodels.
Looking ahead, management plans a less aggressive capital expenditure year for 2027 than initially reported, focusing on free cash flow (FCF) and the leverage it provides. Dave & Buster’s did not buy back shares in Q1 but will likely do so as the year progresses, given the FCF outlook. As it stands, trailing-12-month activity contributed to a 0.7% average share count reduction in FQ1.
Institutional trends suggest that they, too, will buy PLAY stock in July and summer 2026. The group owns more than 90% of the stock and, after selling in 2025, reverted to buying in 2026. Q1 activity reflects group rotation, with selling spiking alongside buying, but the overall balance is bullish for investors. Activity in early Q2 is less robust overall but comes with a far more bullish balance of approximately $2 bought for every $1 sold. The likely outcome is that buying accelerates amid lower stock prices, with critical support in the $8-$10 range.
Dave & Buster’s Falters on Weak Store TrafficDave & Buster’s Q1 results revealed some budding strengths but also persistent weaknesses. The company’s $559.2 million in net revenue was down 1.5% year-over-year (YOY) and came in $21.4 million below consensus on a 5.4% decline in comp sales. Comp sales are the critical factor in PLAY’s rebound thesis and are expected to provide a catalyst this year. As weak as the Q1 results are, management remains confident in the outlook for positive full-year comps and new-store growth. Store count is up approximately 4% as of Q1’s end and expected to rise by another 100 to 200 bps by year’s end.
The margin news is also uninspiring, but again, there is a catalyst at hand. Gross margin expanded incrementally but was offset by higher costs, resulting in profit compression. Cost increases, tied to wages and labor among other drivers, are accelerating deleveraging as revenue declines. The catalyst is the return to positive comp stores, revenue growth, and improving margins.
Analysts Wait and See: Trends Highlight Deep Value OpportunityDave & Buster’s analyst trends contributed to the stock price decline, as they are bearish, but the market has overreacted to the change. Trading around $12, the stock remains deeply discounted to analysts’ average price target, leaving meaningful upside if the turnaround gains traction. A move toward that target is unlikely without clearer evidence of recovery, but improving comps and profitability could provide the catalyst investors need. Until then, analysts remain cautious, with the consensus rating at Hold and the average price target near $20.

Dave & Buster’s risk this year is high oil prices and inflation. High oil prices are underpinning inflation and impairing discretionary spending. In this environment, it may be difficult for PLAY to grow comp sales.
Debt is also a risk. The company carries significant debt, and maintenance spending cuts into cash flow. If the turnaround fails to gain traction by year’s end, the company’s ability to continue as-is will be in jeopardy.
Catalysts include a renewed focus on targeted store remodels, menu changes, new games and Eat-and-Play offers. Management’s Back-to-Basics strategy appears to be helping food and beverage sales, but the stock likely needs clearer evidence that those gains can translate into better traffic, stronger comps and improved margins. The company is also still opening new stores and expanding internationally through franchise partnerships, giving it longer-term growth levers if the core business stabilizes.

Key Takeaways Dave & Buster's weak Q1 reset the debate as comps fell 5.4% and entertainment revenues declined.PLAY is refocusing on food, games, marketing, operations and remodels to restore sales growth.Cash flow improved in Q1, with Dave & Buster's targeting more than $100M in 2026 free cash flow. Dave & Buster’s Entertainment, Inc. (PLAY - Free Report) remains a contested story after a weak fiscal first quarter. The company has recognizable entertainment assets, but softer traffic and execution missteps have reset the debate.
The question is whether management’s back-to-basics plan can restore positive comparable sales and rebuild profitability fast enough.
Dave & Buster's Business Mix Matters AgainDave & Buster’s operates around dining, games and sports viewing through its “Eat, Drink, Play and Watch” model. That mix matters because the latest quarter showed sharply different trends across the business.
Food and beverage revenues represented 38.3% of revenues and rose 6.5% year over year to $214.1 million. Entertainment revenues represented 61.7% and fell 5.9% to $345.1 million, making games and traffic the key recovery areas.
Brinker International (EAT - Free Report) is a relevant restaurant peer because casual-dining operators compete for discretionary dining dollars. Brinker currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
The Cheesecake Factory Incorporated (CAKE - Free Report) also fits the comparison, as it depends on guest traffic, menu appeal and value perception in a competitive restaurant market. Cheesecake Factory currently carries a Zacks Rank #3.
PLAY's Weak Quarter Shows the Real ProblemDave & Buster’s reported adjusted earnings of 22 cents per share, missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 37 cents. Revenues of $559.2 million also missed the consensus mark of $571 million and declined 1.5% year over year.
Comparable store sales fell 5.4%, including Main Event-branded locations. The decline reflected weaker walk-in business, with entertainment softness weighing heavily on the quarter.
Operating income dropped to $46.9 million from $63.2 million a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA declined to $123.2 million from $136.1 million, while adjusted EBITDA margin narrowed to 22% from 24%.
Dave & Buster's Turnaround Levers Are VisibleManagement is refocusing on food, games, marketing, operations and remodels. Food and beverage has been an early bright spot, supported by Eat & Play Combos, menu changes and improved food attach.
Games are another major lever after years of underinvestment. The company recently rolled out 10 new games and plans at least five additional games during the remainder of fiscal 2026.
Marketing is being rebuilt around a simpler promotional calendar and more disciplined media spending. Remodels are also part of the reset, with the new prototype producing roughly a 7% comparable sales uplift while costing about half as much as prior remodels.
PLAY Still Faces Clear Execution RisksThe rebound still faces clear pressure points. Weaker consumer sentiment, elevated gas prices and pressure on discretionary spending remain risks for a concept built around out-of-home entertainment.
Marketing execution is also not fixed yet. Management said its dollar-per-day messaging did not resonate as expected, highlighting the need for sharper value communication.
Lower-income consumer weakness adds another challenge. Value promotions may support traffic, but sustained discounting could pressure margins if sales do not respond enough.
Dave & Buster's Cash Flow Adds Breathing RoomCash flow gives the turnaround more flexibility. Dave & Buster’s generated $25.3 million in adjusted free cash flow in the fiscal first quarter, compared with a negative $58.8 million a year earlier.
The company ended the quarter with $499.1 million of available liquidity. Management continues to target more than $100 million in free cash flow for fiscal 2026.
Capital discipline also supports the plan. Net capital expenditures are expected to be no more than $200 million in fiscal 2026, down from approximately $270 million in fiscal 2025.
How PLAY's Zacks Signals Fit This StoryThe bottom line is that PLAY has visible turnaround levers, but the operating proof is still early. Food and beverage momentum, game reinvestment, remodel economics and better cash flow are positives, while negative comps and entertainment weakness keep the stock in prove-it mode.
PLAY currently carries a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell). That rank points to caution around the near-term earnings outlook.
The stock’s Style Scores are stronger, with a VGM Score of A, Value Score of A, Growth Score of B and Momentum Score of A. These scores suggest PLAY screens well across several style factors, but Style Scores are most useful when aligned with a favorable Zacks Rank.
For now, the stronger style profile does not override the cautious rank. Investors may want clearer evidence that the operating reset is translating into sustained sales growth, margin recovery and better earnings momentum.

Dave & Buster's Entertainment, Inc. faces a challenging turnaround as same-store sales fell 5.4% during Spring Break, highlighting weak consumer demand. PLAY's entertainment revenue mix is eroding, pressuring margins, while restaurant sales grew ~5% in Q1 FY 2027 but offer lower profitability. Leverage stands at 3.8x net LT debt/EBITDA, with no near-term debt wall, but operational risks loom if EBITDA declines further.

Wix provides a platform for creating and managing websites without coding. The company has recently increased focus on artificial intelligence tools, including its AI-powered website builder, Wix Harmony, and its acquisition of the AI application platform Base44.
BFA is investigating whether Wix made false and misleading statements to investors regarding demand from professional designers, AI competition, and its ability to deliver new products and innovation to sustain growth.
Why did Wix’s Stock Drop?
On May 13, 2026, Wix released its 1Q 2026 financial results. The company reported earnings and revenue below consensus expectations, and a sharp decline in operating margins which it largely attributed to softness in its professional developer business. Specifically, Wix acknowledged that its professional developer customers were using competing AI tools, its new Wix Harmony platform had “holes” and “missing capabilities,” there had been delays in delivering product updates and innovation to professional developer customers, and as a result the company had fallen behind “the workflow and the needs of” professional developers.
This news caused the price of Wix stock to decline $20.56 per share, or 27%, from a closing price of $75.88 per share on May 12, 2026, to $55.32 per share on May 13, 2026.

Wix.com Ltd. (WIX) Investigation:
Global web development platform company Wix faces AI disruption concerns over whether traditional website builders can maintain competitive moats as AI-native tools proliferate and enable non-technical users to create web presence without needing platforms like Wix.
To confront this challenge, Wix positioned AI initiatives, Base44 and Harmony, as a two-pronged defense against the vibe coding trend threatening the company's core business.
The company has assured investors that "[w]e expect innovation-driven growth to be accompanied by high impact but disciplined investments to fully unlock the market opportunity ahead for both Wix and Base44."
In contrast, investors' expectations were dashed on May 13, 2026. That day, Wix revealed aggressive and front-loaded AI compute expenses for Harmony and Base44. More specifically, the rapid expansion of Base44 and Harmony rollout radically altered Wix's cost structure primarily through front-loading sales and marketing ("S&M") expenses. Collectively, the initiatives drove non-GAAP S&M expenses to $190.7 million, a year-over-year 88% increase that caused the company's non-GAAP operating margin to collapse from 21% during the prior year period to just 5% while sending its quarterly operating expenses up 46% from the prior year period.
The market swiftly reacted, scalping over $1.1 billion from Wix's market capitalization that day and prompting analysts' surprise over the magnitude of the margin miss.
"We're investigating whether Wix may have intentionally understated the adverse effects of its AI initiatives on its operating results," said Reed Kathrein, the Hagens Berman partner leading the firm's investigation.

Key Takeaways Shopify grew GMV 35% to $101 billion, with revenues up 34% and strong enterprise traction.Wix is gaining momentum with AI tools and Base44, which reached $150 million in annual recurring revenues. Both companies are investing in AI, but face execution challenges as digital commerce evolves. The e-commerce industry continues to evolve rapidly as businesses of all sizes increasingly rely on digital storefronts to reach customers. Against this backdrop, Shopify Inc. (SHOP - Free Report) and Wix.com Ltd. (WIX - Free Report) have emerged as two prominent players, helping merchants build, manage and grow their online presence.
While Shopify has established itself as a leading commerce platform with a strong ecosystem of merchants, payment solutions and fulfillment capabilities, Wix has gained traction through its user-friendly website-building tools and expanding e-commerce offerings. Both companies are benefiting from the ongoing shift toward online selling, but their growth strategies, financial performance and market opportunities differ significantly. As investors look for exposure to the expanding digital commerce market, the question remains: which of these two stocks is currently in a stronger position to deliver long-term value?
The Case for SHOPShopify continues to demonstrate exceptional growth at a scale few e-commerce companies can match. In the first quarter of 2026, gross merchandise volume (“GMV”) increased 35% year over year to $101 billion, marking the second consecutive quarter in which merchants sold more than $100 billion worth of goods on the platform. Revenues climbed 34%, while free cash flow reached $476 million. Growth was broad-based across merchant sizes, geographies and sales channels, highlighting the strength of Shopify's ecosystem.
The company is also gaining traction among larger merchants, with the number of businesses generating more than $100 million in annual GMV nearly doubling over the last two years. These trends suggest Shopify is successfully expanding beyond its small-business roots and capturing a larger share of enterprise commerce.
Shopify is positioning itself as a major beneficiary of the AI-driven transformation in commerce. The company has integrated artificial intelligence across its platform, helping merchants automate store management, marketing and operational tasks. Its AI assistant, Sidekick, is seeing strong adoption, with weekly active shops using the tool increasing fourfold year over year.
Management believes Shopify's 20 years of commerce data, spanning millions of merchants and billions of products, provides a significant advantage in building AI-powered solutions. As entrepreneurship becomes more accessible through AI, Shopify expects a larger pool of merchants to enter the market, creating a long-term growth opportunity for the platform.
Shopify's opportunity extends well beyond website creation. The company continues to deepen merchant relationships through payments, financial services, advertising and AI-powered shopping channels. Shopify Payments processed $67 billion in GMV during the quarter, while Shop Pay volume jumped 59% year over year. It is also benefiting from emerging AI commerce channels, with AI-driven traffic to Shopify stores rising eightfold and orders generated through AI searches increasing nearly thirteenfold from the prior year. These initiatives strengthen merchant retention, increase monetization opportunities and reinforce Shopify's position as a comprehensive commerce platform rather than simply an e-commerce software provider.
Despite its strong momentum, Shopify faces growing execution challenges as the commerce landscape evolves. The company is making significant investments in AI-driven commerce, betting that new shopping experiences powered by platforms such as ChatGPT and other AI agents will accelerate merchant growth. However, the pace and economics of this shift remain uncertain. Competition from technology giants, payment providers and other commerce platforms is intensifying as AI reshapes how consumers discover and purchase products.
In addition, Shopify's transaction-based business model remains tied to merchant sales activity, making it vulnerable to slowdowns in consumer spending. To justify its growth narrative, Shopify must continue to attract merchants, expand enterprise adoption and successfully monetize new AI-powered commerce opportunities.
The Case for WIXWix is rapidly strengthening its position in the AI-powered website creation market. Management believes the company's two decades of experience in web creation, extensive infrastructure and integrated product ecosystem provide a durable competitive advantage as AI reshapes the industry. During the quarter, Wix introduced its own proprietary large language model to power Wix Harmony, the AI website-building platform.
According to management, the internally developed model delivers faster performance, better user outcomes and lower operating costs than third-party alternatives. Harmony is already helping improve user conversion rates and driving stronger adoption of premium subscriptions and business solutions, reinforcing Wix's ability to monetize AI innovation.
Wix's acquisition of Base44 is creating a meaningful new avenue for growth. The AI-powered application creation platform reached $150 million in annual recurring revenues by mid-May, up sharply from $100 million in early March. Management highlighted strong user demand, improving retention trends and growing monetization across the platform. Base44 is also expanding Wix's addressable market beyond traditional website creation by enabling entrepreneurs and businesses to build custom applications. Combined with healthy cohort performance, higher subscription conversions and strong retention among existing users, Base44 gives Wix another growth driver that could support revenue expansion and market-share gains in the years ahead.
Despite the encouraging AI momentum, Wix continues to face challenges in its partner business. Management acknowledged that partner-related growth slowed more than expected due to smaller customer cohorts and reduced marketing spending in recent quarters. In addition, gross payment volume growth remained soft as small and medium-sized businesses on the platform continued to face macroeconomic pressure. While Wix expects new AI products and platform enhancements to reaccelerate growth eventually, execution risks remain as it works to revive partner momentum and navigate a still-uncertain economic environment.

End NotesWhile both Shopify and Wix are benefiting from the growing adoption of AI and digital commerce tools, the former appears to be in a stronger position today. The company is delivering faster revenue growth, expanding its presence among large enterprises and building a broader commerce ecosystem that spans payments, financial services, marketing and AI-driven shopping experiences.
Shopify's growth is also supported by rising earnings expectations and strong momentum across merchant acquisition and engagement. In contrast, Wix remains primarily focused on website creation and is still working through challenges in its partner business while integrating newer growth initiatives such as Base44.
Although Wix offers a more attractive valuation and has executed well on AI innovation, Shopify's larger scale, stronger growth trajectory, expanding commerce capabilities and improving earnings outlook give it a clearer path to long-term value creation. As a result, Shopify appears better positioned to capitalize on the next phase of e-commerce and AI-driven commerce evolution.

Kosmos Energy has received a final cash payment of $127 million following the conclusion of the deal and after accounting for post-closing adjustments. Besides the cash received at closing, Kosmos could still earn additional payments under the terms of the agreement. This includes contingent payments of $12.5 million if the Ceiba field meets certain production targets and $9 million in each of 2027, 2028 and 2029 if oil prices and production levels reach specific target thresholds.
Divestment Supports Balance Sheet StrengtheningThe closing of this deal reduces the company’s 2026 production. Before the deal’s closing, these assets contributed nearly 5,800 barrels of oil per day net to Kosmos in 2026. However, it enables Kosmos Energy to streamline its asset portfolio and focus on its core assets that generate higher returns. Furthermore, the company has stated that it will use the divestment proceeds to pay down the borrowings under its reserves-based lending credit facility. The transaction will also remove an asset retirement obligation of $140 million from the company’s balance sheet. The transaction is expected to benefit the company by improving its financial flexibility, strengthening its balance sheet and freeing up capital for other strategic priorities.
Deal Creates Value for Both CompaniesKosmos Energy has highlighted that this deal is mutually beneficial for both companies. Panoro Energy previously owned a 14.25% interest in Block G, and the acquisition will raise its stake in the block to 54.625%. For Kosmos, the deal streamlines its portfolio and allows it to focus on its deepwater assets while selling assets with relatively high unit operating costs. Moreover, the deal is structured such that the company can still benefit from any future upside from the assets. Kosmos Energy’s focus lies on its key offshore assets across Ghana, Mauritania, Senegal and the Gulf of America, which have the potential for long-term growth.
KOS’s Zacks Rank and Key PicksKOS currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
Some better-ranked stocks from the energy sector are W&T Offshore (WTI - Free Report) , Galp Energia SGPS SA (GLPEY - Free Report) and FuelCell Energy (FCEL - Free Report) , each carrying a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy) at present. You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) stocks here.
W&T Offshore benefits from its prolific Gulf of America assets, which offer low decline rates, strong permeability and significant untapped reserves. The company’s recent acquisition of six shallow-water fields in the Gulf of America boosts its future production prospects and is expected to enhance its revenues.
Galp Energia is a Portuguese energy company engaged in exploration and production activities. The company’s oil exploration efforts have yielded positive results, particularly with the Mopane discovery in the Orange Basin, offshore Namibia. This discovery allows Galp to expand its global presence with the potential to become a significant oil producer in the region. It is also involved in refining and marketing of oil products and natural gas marketing and sales.
FuelCell Energy is a clean energy company that offers scalable, reliable, low-carbon power solutions. It produces power using flexible fuel sources such as biogas, natural gas and hydrogen. The company’s proprietary molten carbonate fuel cell systems generate electricity through an electrochemical process instead of burning fuel, reducing carbon emissions and minimizing the environmental impact of power generation. FCEL is anticipated to play a crucial role in the energy transition by enabling industries and communities to shift from traditional fossil fuels to low-carbon alternatives.
FuelCell Energy shares are experiencing downward pressure. What’s pulling FCEL shares down? What Is FuelCell Energy’s Data-Center Strategy? The latest debate centers on FuelCell Energy's push into data-center power, where data centers represent nearly 90% of its sales pipeline, even as investors remain sensitive to recent execution issues. The company has also pointed to a 4-gigawatt second-quarter pipeline that jumped 267% from the first quarter and a standardized 12.5-megawatt "Energy Block" product aimed at faster time-to-power for AI and data center projects.
FuelCell Energy's higher-beta behavior has been showing up in both directions this week, with Tuesday's premarket pressure tied to a more defensive tape as futures turned "slightly softer" in risk-off positioning. That backdrop helps explain why FCEL can trade more like a sentiment lever than a single-headline story, even when the fundamental narrative is unchanged.
FCEL Stock: Key Technical Levels To WatchFCEL's longer-term trend remains pointed up: the stock is trading well above its 50-day SMA ($15.59) and 200-day SMA ($9.70), and the bullish stack is reinforced by the 20-day SMA sitting above the 50-day SMA. The golden cross that formed in October 2025 (50-day SMA above the 200-day SMA) is still in place, which is typically the kind of structure trend-followers want to see during pullbacks.
Near term, price is working through consolidation: shares are trading 1.3% below the 20-day SMA ($20.67), a spot that often acts like a "line in the sand" for short-term momentum. RSI is the cleaner momentum lens right now at 54.39 (neutral); in plain terms, RSI helps show whether a move is getting stretched, and this reading suggests two-sided trade rather than an overbought chase.
Key Resistance: $20.67 — the 20-day SMA is overhead and is a common level sellers defend during consolidations Key Support: $15.59 — the 50-day SMA is the nearest major trend gauge below price and a typical dip-buy zone in uptrends FuelCell Energy is a clean energy technology company that develops, designs, produces, and services high-temperature fuel cells used for clean electric power generation. Its core offering includes proprietary molten carbonate fuel cell systems that generate electricity electrochemically with ultra-low emissions and high efficiency.
The company often operates as a full solutions provider—covering design, manufacturing, installation, and long-term maintenance—through long-term power purchase, service, and engineering procurement agreements. That model can create big upside when projects ramp, but it also means execution and timing matter a lot, which is why the market is scrutinizing how the data-center pipeline converts into delivered revenue.

FuelCell Energy stock is trading at elevated levels. Where are FCEL shares going? What Is FuelCell Energy’s Data-Center Strategy? The current debate is centered on FuelCell Energy’s push into data-center power, where data centers represent nearly 90% of its sales pipeline, but investors remain sensitive to recent execution issues. The company has also pointed to a 4-gigawatt second-quarter pipeline that jumped 267% from the first quarter and a standardized 12.5-megawatt "Energy Block" product aimed at faster time-to-power for AI and data center projects.
FuelCell Energy’s higher-beta behavior has been showing up in both directions, with the stock often trading more like a sentiment lever than a single-headline story when futures shift. That dynamic has kept the focus on whether the pipeline narrative converts into signed work and delivered megawatts, not just a bigger funnel.
Critical Price Levels To Watch For FCELThe bigger-picture trend is still pointed up: at $24.01, the stock is trading well above its 20-day SMA ($20.86), 50-day SMA ($15.94), 100-day SMA ($11.67), and 200-day SMA ($9.80). That "bullish stack" is reinforced by the 20-day SMA sitting above the 50-day SMA, and the golden cross that formed in October 2025 (50-day above the 200-day) remains in place.
For momentum, RSI is the cleaner lens here: the last noted turning point was RSI entering overbought territory in May, which helps explain why the stock has been prone to consolidation after sharp runs. In plain terms, RSI measures how stretched a move is, and that overbought signal in May lines up with the idea that FCEL may need time (or a fresh catalyst) to digest gains.
Key Resistance: $27.50 — near the 52-week high zone ($27.69), where breakouts often need follow-through to avoid stalling Key Support: $20.86 — the 20-day SMA area, which often acts as a "line in the sand" during consolidations in uptrends FuelCell Energy is a clean energy technology company that develops, designs, produces, and services high-temperature fuel cells for clean electric power generation. Its core offering includes proprietary molten carbonate fuel cell systems that generate electricity electrochemically with ultra-low emissions and high efficiency.
The company often operates as a full solutions provider—handling design, manufacturing, installation, and long-term maintenance under power purchase, service, and engineering procurement agreements. That matters for the data-center angle because "time-to-power" and reliability can be as important as the technology itself when customers are trying to bring large AI-related loads online.

Court Enters All Settlements Reached to Date in Short-Swing Profit Recovery Action
Company Well-Capitalized to Execute A.A. Milne and Stan Lee IP-Driven Growth Strategy
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., June 17, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Kartoon Studios (NYSE American: TOON) (“Kartoon Studios” or the “Company”) today announced that the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York has entered all settlement agreements reached to date in the shareholder action Augenbaum v. Anson Investments Master Fund LP et al. (Case No. 1:22-CV-00249-AS). Pursuant to those settlements, the Company will receive aggregate settlement payments of approximately $78.5 million, before plaintiff’s counsel fees and expenses.
The action was brought on behalf of the Company under Section 16(b) of the Securities Exchange Act, commonly known as the “short-swing profit” recovery statute, seeking to recover profits realized from certain transactions in the Company’s securities. With the Court’s latest ruling, all settlement agreements reached to date with settling defendants have now been entered. The action remains ongoing against the two remaining defendants.
The settlements represent a significant milestone in Kartoon Studios’ financial evolution. The aggregate recovery materially strengthens the Company’s balance sheet, providing a substantial capital base to execute and accelerate its children and family intellectual property-driven growth strategy without reliance on external financing, or dilution.
“This is a watershed moment for Kartoon Studios and, most importantly, for our shareholders,” said Andy Heyward, Chairman and CEO of Kartoon Studios. “These recoveries are non-dilutive, and return substantial value directly to the Company and its shareholders.

Southwest to transition to a cloud-based, AI-enabled architecture on AWS by 2028
, /PRNewswire/ -- Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) is partnering with Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its preferred cloud provider to modernize its technology foundation and evolve how the airline operates, builds, and is able to serve its Customers. As part of this partnership, Southwest will transition from a largely on-premises environment to a cloud-based, AI- and agent-enabled architecture on AWS by 2028—laying the foundation to operate with greater speed, flexibility, and reliability to support the business.
Technology powers nearly every part of the airline—from selling seats, to running daily operations, to supporting more than 70,000 Employees. As the airline continues to evolve its business model and Customer experience, it is also accelerating efforts to simplify its technology environment and improve how systems work together at scale.
"Southwest has always evolved our business with a focus on improving performance, efficiency, and reliability—and applying that same mindset to our technology with AWS is a core part of that strategy," said Lauren Woods, Executive Vice President & Chief Information Officer at Southwest Airlines, "From Customer experience, to operations, to how we build the systems behind it—all of it is coming together in a way that helps our Teams move faster, make better decisions, and deliver for our Customers."
Building a cloud-based airline by 2028
Southwest is continuing to modernize its footprint on AWS, targeting a fully cloud-based environment by 2028 while expanding how it uses AI and agent-based capabilities across the business by adopting new tools like Amazon Quick.
"Southwest Airlines is using AI to deliver on its commitment to being a customer-obsessed airline. Accelerating modernization with Kiro
Southwest is using Kiro, AWS's agentic coding service, to modernize one of its largest and most critical Customer-facing platforms—Southwest.com.
Historically, the platform has operated a large footprint of on-premises systems with long modernization timelines. By leveraging Kiro to refactor legacy code, Southwest has accelerated that effort significantly. Kiro is now used by more than 2,700 developers to build features, help automate testing, and to generate the infrastructure in the cloud.
This work is creating a foundation that is easier to evolve, scale, and support—helping Southwest move faster and automate tasks in minutes that used to take hours.
Reimagining how software gets built with AI-Driven Development Life Cycle
Beyond individual tools, Southwest is also transforming how software is built across the organization.
Using an intelligent software development workflow built on AWS capabilities like AI-Driven Development Lifecycle (AIDLC)—Southwest is adopting a more agent-driven way of working. It doesn't matter your age or experience: taking full advantage of the stock market and investing with confidence are common goals for all investors. Luckily, Zacks Premium offers several different ways to do both.
Featuring daily updates of the Zacks Rank and Zacks Industry Rank, full access to the Zacks #1 Rank List, Equity Research reports, and Premium stock screens, the research service can help you become a smarter, more self-assured investor.
It also includes access to the Zacks Style Scores.
What are the Zacks Style Scores? The Zacks Style Scores, developed alongside the Zacks Rank, are complementary indicators that rate stocks based on three widely-followed investing methodologies; they also help investors pick stocks with the best chances of beating the market over the next 30 days.
Based on their value, growth, and momentum characteristics, each stock is assigned a rating of A, B, C, D, or F. The better the score, the better chance the stock will outperform; an A is better than a B, a B is better than a C, and so on.
The Style Scores are broken down into four categories:
Value ScoreFor value investors, it's all about finding good stocks at good prices, and discovering which companies are trading under their true value before the broader market catches on. The Value Style Score utilizes ratios like P/E, PEG, Price/Sales, Price/Cash Flow, and a host of other multiples to help pick out the most attractive and discounted stocks.
Growth ScoreWhile good value is important, growth investors are more focused on a company's financial strength and health, and its future outlook. The Growth Style Score takes projected and historic earnings, sales, and cash flow into account to uncover stocks that will see long-term, sustainable growth.
Momentum ScoreMomentum trading is all about taking advantage of upward or downward trends in a stock's price or earnings outlook, and these investors live by the saying "the trend is your friend." The Momentum Style Score can pinpoint good times to build a position in a stock, using factors like one-week price change and the monthly percentage change in earnings estimates.
VGM ScoreWhat if you like to use all three types of investing? The VGM Score is a combination of all Style Scores, making it one of the most comprehensive indicators to use with the Zacks Rank. It rates each stock on their combined weighted styles, which helps narrow down the companies with the most attractive value, best growth forecast, and most promising momentum.
How Style Scores Work with the Zacks Rank The Zacks Rank is a proprietary stock-rating model that harnesses the power of earnings estimate revisions, or changes to a company's earnings expectations, to help investors build a successful portfolio.
It's highly successful, with #1 (Strong Buy) stocks producing an unmatched +24% average annual return since 1988. That's more than double the S&P 500. But because of the large number of stocks we rate, there are over 200 companies with a Strong Buy rank, plus another 600 with a #2 (Buy) rank, on any given day.
With more than 800 top-rated stocks to choose from, it can certainly feel overwhelming to pick the ones that are right for you and your investing journey.
That's where the Style Scores come in.
You want to make sure you're buying stocks with the highest likelihood of success, and to do that, you'll need to pick stocks with a Zacks Rank #1 or #2 that also have Style Scores of A or B. If you like a stock that only has a #3 (Hold) rank, it should also have Scores of A or B to guarantee as much upside potential as possible.
The direction of a stock's earnings estimate revisions should always be a key factor when choosing which stocks to buy, since the Scores were created to work together with the Zacks Rank.
For instance, a stock with a #4 (Sell) or #5 (Strong Sell) rating, even one that boasts Scores of A and B, still has a downward-trending earnings forecast, and a much greater likelihood its share price will decline as well.
Thus, the more stocks you own with a #1 or #2 Rank and Scores of A or B, the better.
Stock to Watch: Southwest Airlines (LUV - Free Report) Based in Dallas, TX, Southwest Airlines is a passenger airline that provides scheduled air transportation in the United States and 'ten near-international' markets. LUV is a #3 (Hold) on the Zacks Rank, with a VGM Score of A.
Momentum investors should take note of this Transportation stock. LUV has a Momentum Style Score of A, and shares are up 17.6% over the past four weeks.
For fiscal 2026, two analysts revised their earnings estimate upwards in the last 60 days, and the Zacks Consensus Estimate has increased $0.09 to $2.81 per share. LUV boasts an average earnings surprise of +247%.
With a solid Zacks Rank and top-tier Momentum and VGM Style Scores, LUV should be on investors' short list.

JetBlue Airways told CNBC on Wednesday that it will close its flight attendant base at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey and tech operations bases there and at LaGuardia Airport in New York this fall as it seeks to reduce costs and beef up service in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, though it noted that no staff will lose their jobs.
JetBlue said it is ending seasonal service between Newark and Los Angeles and Las Vegas. It said staff could bid or transfer to other bases.
"We're operating in a fast-changing landscape where competitors are constantly adding, reducing and shifting flying in response to market conditions," JetBlue President Marty St. George and COO Warren Christie said in a staff note, which was seen by CNBC. "We have to be just as agile, entering markets where we see opportunity and exiting those that no longer support our long-term goals. Standing still while competitors make moves isn't an option."
The airline is already the top carrier at Fort Lauderdale, though it was previously second to Spirit Airlines, the South Florida-based discounter that collapsed on May 2. Competitors have also added service to the region.
JetBlue earlier Wednesday said it would expand daily, cross-country flights with its lie-flat business class, Mint, from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to San Diego on Nov. 19 and will add more Mint-equipped flights this winter to San Francisco and Los Angeles.
That will include up to eight daily Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles flights and three a day to San Francisco.
JetBlue has spent years trimming unprofitable routes and cutting costs to return to steady profitability. Its last profitable quarter was two years ago, and the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport push is a big part of its strategy, St. George told CNBC earlier this month. The airline is scouting space for a high-end airport lounge there, too, he said.
Mint-equipped planes are lucrative and those seats carry a big premium. A one-way Mint seat from Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles on Jan. 10 topped $3,000 and went as high as $4,522 while a basic coach ticket on that route was going for as little as $244.
The JetBlue executives told staff Wednesday that they know the Newark reductions raise questions about their plans at LaGuardia Airport, where JetBlue's one-time acquisition target, Spirit, operated out of the Marine Air Terminal until it shut down.
"Any future opportunities that could come from the LGA slot auction process remain uncertain and would take time to develop," they said. "We must make decisions based on the operation we know we will fly, not on potential outcomes that may or may not materialize in the future."
watch now
JetBlue executives have called out the high costs of operating at airports like LaGuardia.
"We are much, much smaller at LaGuardia than we were four years ago because it's a $40 [enplanement fee] airport for us. And the fountain is really pretty, but ... I think people would rather have low fares than a really nice fountain," St. George said at a JPMorgan industry conference in March, referring to the 25-foot-tall water feature in the airport's Terminal B.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates LaGuardia and Newark airports, did not immediately comment.
JetBlue is shutting down key operations at Newark and LaGuardia airports as the struggling carrier shifts resources to booming South Florida in its latest bid to restore profitability.
The Queens-based airline said it will still fly to those hubs, but plans to close its flight attendant base at Newark and its technical operations bases there and at LaGuardia this fall as part of a broader effort to cut costs and expand service in Florida.
JetBlue said no employees will lose their jobs as a result of the switch and that affected workers will be able to bid for positions or transfer to other bases.

Getty Images “JetBlue is making targeted schedule adjustments, ending seasonal service between Newark (EWR) and Los Angeles (LAX) and Las Vegas (LAS), to support growth in Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport,” the airline said in a statement to The Post.
The move marks another retrenchment in the New York-New Jersey market for JetBlue, which has spent years trimming underperforming routes while searching for a path back to consistent profitability.
The latest reductions point to JetBlue’s growing frustration with the cost of operating in the New York region — particularly at LaGuardia, where executives have complained that fees have soared following the airport’s multibillion-dollar redevelopment.
“We are much, much smaller at LaGuardia than we were four years ago because it’s a $40 airport for us,” JetBlue President Marty St. George said in March, referring to “enplanement” fees charged per customer.
“And the fountain is really pretty, but … I think people would rather have low fares than a really nice fountain,” he added, referring to the airport’s 25-foot water feature inside Terminal B.
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is emerging as JetBlue’s fastest-growing hub following the collapse of rival Spirit Airlines. Matthew Tighe – stock.adobe.com Public fee schedules show LaGuardia’s landing fees have climbed steadily in recent years following the airport’s roughly $8 billion overhaul, making it one of the most expensive airports in the region for airlines to operate from.
JetBlue has steadily reduced its footprint there as costs have mounted.
Despite the cuts, JetBlue remains deeply tied to the region.
The airline is headquartered in Long Island City and continues to market itself as “New York’s Hometown Airline.”
In its most recent annual report, JetBlue said the New York metropolitan region remained its largest focus area, accounting for 118 nonstop routes and a 13% seat share across John F. Kennedy International Airport, Newark, LaGuardia, Westchester County Airport and Long Island MacArthur Airport.
JetBlue is shifting aircraft and resources to Fort Lauderdale as it cuts costs and trims operations in the New York region. Skórzewiak – stock.adobe.com Still, Newark and LaGuardia have become increasingly peripheral to JetBlue’s operations compared with JFK.
In 2025, JetBlue carried roughly 14.5 million passengers through Kennedy, representing more than 23% of the airport’s total traffic.
By contrast, the airline carried about 1.9 million passengers through Newark and 1.1 million through LaGuardia, accounting for just 4% and 3.4% of those airports’ passenger volumes, respectively.
The airline’s growing emphasis on Florida has accelerated following the collapse of rival Spirit Airlines earlier this year.
The carrier has cited rising airport fees at LaGuardia following the airport’s multibillion-dollar redevelopment. Bloomberg via Getty Images JetBlue is already the largest carrier at Fort Lauderdale and has aggressively expanded there since Spirit ceased operations May 2.
Earlier Wednesday, JetBlue announced that it would add more premium Mint service from Fort Lauderdale, including expanded flights to San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
The carrier has also unveiled plans to launch 11 new destinations from Fort Lauderdale and expects to operate nearly 130 daily departures there this summer — its most expansive schedule ever at the airport.
The Post has sought comment from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which oversees all area airports.

Happy Thursday. It's a busy day in two of America's largest cities: The Knicks will celebrate their NBA championship with a ticker-tape parade in New York City, while the Obama Presidential Center is set for a star-studded opening in Chicago.
Stock futures are higher this morning as traders look to rebound from yesterday's losses.
Here are five key things investors need to know to start the trading day:
1. Kevin's heartAs expected, the Federal Reserve held interest rates steady yesterday, keeping its benchmark rate in a range of 3.5%-3.75%. But the real excitement was what Kevin Warsh did at hist first meeting as the central bank's chairman.
Here's what to know:
The first Federal Open Market Committee statement under Warsh was significantly shorter than that of recent meetings, lacking forward guidance as well as details on how members voted. At his post-announcement press conference, Warsh announced plans for task forces focused on overhauling the central bank's operations. The chairman sat out of participating in the Fed's "dot plot" but said he encouraged his colleagues to continue doing so. Of the 18 members who did share their projections, nine indicated that they expected a rate hike this year.DoubleLine Capital's Jeffrey Gundlach told CNBC that Warsh's first meeting made it clear that the chairman would not be the "easy money" leader that many expected. The S&P 500 tumbled more than 1% in yesterday's session, marking the index's worst performance on the first "Fed day" under a new chair since at least 1994.Yesterday's drop dragged the S&P 500 into the red for the week. Follow live markets updates here.2. Sign on the dotted linePresident Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday, three days after Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf signed the same document.
The 14-point MOU, aimed at developing a permanent peace deal, calls for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz without tolls for at least 60 days. It also includes an agreement for the two nations to resolve the question of how to dispose of Iran's highly-enriched uranium.
Meanwhile at the G7 summit, CNBC learned that Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis pushed for a U.S.-led artificial intelligence coalition. Speaking during a private lunch attended by several tech executives and government leaders, the pair said the coalition would work to protect against the risks associated with the technology.
3. Florida!!! (feat. JetBlue)Earlier this week, we told you about JetBlue's plans to expand in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Now, the airline is planning to reduce its footprint in the New York City area to free up resources.
The carrier told CNBC yesterday that it will cut its tech operations bases at Newark Liberty International Airport and LaGuardia Airport. It will also close its flight attendant hub at the New Jersey airport and cease its seasonal service from Newark to Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
Speaking of Florida: Demand for commercial real estate on the state's so-called "space coast" is booming, as private companies in the sector like SpaceX and Blue Origin grow. One developer told CNBC's Diana Olick that building luxury hotels makes sense as executives and scientists travel to the region to watch launches.
4. Apple Intel-ligenceShares of Intel are up 9% in premarket trading after Trump said overnight that the company inked a new partnership with Apple to design and build chips in the U.S. The announcement comes after the U.S. government last August took a 10% stake in the embattled chipmaker, which has seen huge gains in the last few months following a multi-year slump.
Elsewhere in tech, SpaceX saw its first day of losses following its record IPO last week. The stock closed Wednesday's session down nearly 5% and is down another 3% before the bell.
5. Carolina blue?As Democrats hope to take control of the Senate this fall, they're eying former Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper's North Carolina Senate bid as one of their best shots at flipping a Republican-held seat.
But Democrats haven't been victorious in a presidential or Senate race in the Tar Heel State since 2008, despite coming out on top in gubernatorial elections in each of the last three presidential cycles. As CNBC's Luke Fountain reports, the state's long tradition of judging Raleigh and Washington by different rules could dampen the effect of Cooper's statewide strength.
"The question Republicans will frame this as is not whether voters liked Roy Cooper as governor," Eric Heberlig, a political scientist at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, said. "It is whether they want another Democrat helping Chuck Schumer control the Senate."
Key Takeaways JBLU will add daily Mint flights from Fort Lauderdale to San Diego, its newest premium route. JBLU becomes the only airline offering business-class service on Fort Lauderdale-San Diego. JBLU plans roughly 150 daily Fort Lauderdale departures this winter, boosting premium capacity. JetBlue Airways’ (JBLU - Free Report) expansion of its premium Mint service from Fort Lauderdale highlights the airline’s continued focus on strengthening its presence in one of its most important growth markets. By introducing daily Mint flights to San Diego and increasing premium capacity on routes to Los Angeles and San Francisco, the company is targeting strong demand for transcontinental travel. It is also differentiating itself through a higher-end customer experience. The move further reinforces Fort Lauderdale’s role as a strategic hub for JBLU.
The addition of San Diego is particularly notable, as JetBlue will become the only airline offering a business-class product on the Fort Lauderdale–San Diego route. This unique positioning could help the carrier attract higher-yield business and leisure travelers seeking premium comfort, supporting revenue growth and improving route profitability. The expansion also demonstrates confidence in sustained travel demand between South Florida and the West Coast.
From a competitive standpoint, increasing Mint frequencies on key routes to Los Angeles and San Francisco allows JBLU to better compete with larger network carriers that dominate premium transcontinental markets. Mint has been a key differentiator for the airline, offering lie-flat seats and premium amenities while maintaining a value-oriented pricing strategy. Expanding this product on high-demand routes should strengthen customer loyalty and enhance JetBlue’s premium brand appeal.
Overall, the announcement reflects JBLU’s strategy of driving growth through targeted network expansion and premium product offerings rather than simply adding capacity. The expected increase to roughly 150 daily departures from Fort Lauderdale this winter underscores management’s commitment to the market and positions the airline to capture both leisure and business travel demand while supporting long-term revenue and margin improvement.

U.S. Global Investors (NASDAQ:GROW) said falling oil prices are providing a boost to airline stocks, pointing to gains in Delta Air Lines and United Airlines as carriers benefit from steady travel demand and lower fuel costs.
The investment advisory firm, which specializes in gold mining stocks and the airline industry, said oil prices trading below their 50-day moving average has historically signaled easing inflationary pressure and improving cost structures, particularly in commercial aviation. That technical breach has coincided with renewed optimism around airline profitability.
"We have long believed in the resilience of global air travel and the opportunities created by commodity cycles," said Frank Holmes, CEO and Chief Investment Officer of U.S. Global Investors (NASDAQ:GROW). "When oil prices drop below the 50-day moving average, it serves as a clear positive signal for tactical investors and traders. We see genuine fundamental improvement ahead, not just short-term sentiment."
The company tracks these dynamics through its specialized funds and Smart Beta 2.0 quantitative investment strategy. Its U.S. Global Jets ETF (NYSE: JETS) provides investors exposure to the global airline industry, including airline operators, manufacturers, and online travel agencies.
Separately, U.S. Global Investors (NASDAQ:GROW)' Board of Directors approved continued payment of monthly dividends of $0.0075 per share for July, August and September 2026. Based on the company's closing share price of $2.91 on June 16, 2026, the dividend represents an annualized yield of approximately 3.1%.

Last Monday, President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. and Iran have reached a peace deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, the 21-mile chokepoint through which roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply normally flows.
By mid-morning, Brent crude had dropped nearly 5% to $83 per barrel, and by Tuesday, it traded below $80 for the first time since early March. Shares of major airlines jumped on the news, led by United Airlines, which closed at a new record high. Delta Air Lines also hit a fresh all-time high.
Major airline stocks jump on news of U.S.-Iran peace deal
Bloomberg
For investors who have spent the last three-and-a-half months watching the airline sector sail through the turbulence, last week felt like confirmation of something. But confirmation of what, exactly? That’s the more interesting question.
Not All Oil Drops Are Created EqualI’ve spent over a decade analyzing the relationship between energy prices and airline stocks, and the single most important thing I’ve learned is that falling oil and rising airline stocks are not the same thing.
MORE FOR YOU
Sometimes the two are correlated. Sometimes they’re not. And the difference almost always comes down to why oil is falling.
When oil drops because the economy is contracting—the way it did after the September 11 attacks in 2001, or when the global financial system seized up in 2008—airlines don’t benefit much from cheaper jet fuel.
Why? Well, if people aren’t flying, empty seats and low fuel costs still don’t add up to a good business.
But when oil falls because the supply side normalizes—an oversupply problem, a geopolitical disruption that resolves—something different happens. Travel demand stays intact, and airlines begin pocketing the spread between what passengers are paying and what carriers are now paying for fuel.
That’s what’s happening today. Airline stocks, as measured by the NYSE Arca Airlines Index, have now erased their losses from the Iran conflict as oil prices decline and demand remains strong.
Airline stocks have erased Iran War losses on falling oil prices
Bloomberg
What a Quarter Century of Data Tells UsWorking through daily Brent crude oil prices and the NYSE Arca Airlines Index going back to January 2000, I looked at what happened to airline stocks following four major oil price crashes.
The two demand-driven crashes told a cautionary tale. After the September 11 attacks in 2001, investors who bought airlines at the oil price trough saw a modest 20% gain over three months… then gave it all back (and then some), losing 45% over the following 12 months as the travel recession ground on.
The 2008 financial crisis told a similar story. Oil fell 74%, but airlines were still down almost 40% three months after the oil trough, as collapsing consumer confidence kept seats empty. Patient investors who held on eventually saw rebounds of 47% and 62% at the 12- and 18-month marks.
What happens to airline stocks after oil bottoms?
Bloomberg
The supply-driven episodes, on the other hand, painted a completely different picture. When Saudi Arabia blocked OPEC production cuts in 2014 to defend market share, Brent crude fell 75% from peak to trough over 18 months. Airlines near the January 2016 oil price trough returned 28% over three months, 52% over 12 months, and 59% over 18 months.
Then came 2020. The pandemic crashed oil to $19 a barrel and temporarily shut down global aviation. But once the demand catalyst became visible—vaccine approval on the horizon—the recovery was historic. Buying airlines at the April 2020 oil trough returned 21% in three months and a massive 132% over the following 12 months. That was the best 12-month return for airline stocks in the 30 years of data I looked at.
Why 2026 Belongs in the Supply Shock ColumnThe war in Iran created one of the most dramatic oil supply shocks in recent memory. Iran’s retaliation sent Brent to $146 a barrel, its highest level since 2008. Airline stocks fell as fuel costs compressed margins.
Unlike past episodes, though, travel demand hasn’t collapsed. Airlines have raised airfares to offset surging fuel costs… and passengers are paying them. As someone who travels often, I’ve seen packed planes all throughout this disruption.
The 2026 episode belongs firmly in the supply shock column. It was an external disruption to fuel costs that’s now coming to an end, with passenger demand fully intact.
Why the Window Matters NowAcross numerous oil price drawdowns since 2000, the historical data shows that the strongest entry point for airline stocks was not at the start of the oil decline or during the peak of the fear. It was near the oil price trough, after the big move had already happened and the situation was stabilizing. The average 12-month return from that entry point, across all 34 episodes I counted, was 19%.
With Brent back near $80 today—still above its pre-war level of roughly $64 to $67, but well off the $146 peak—and the Strait of Hormuz reopening, we appear to be in the early phase of what history suggests could be a sustained period of margin recovery for airline stocks.
Based on what 26 years of data show about how airline stocks behave after supply shocks end with demand intact, this may well be the starting gun.

Key Takeaways TXN and Lam Research both benefit from AI demand, but Texas Instruments offers the better risk-reward.TXN's data center revenues surged 90% in Q1 as demand rose for power management chips.Texas Instruments trades at a lower forward P/E than Lam Research, supporting its stronger value case. Texas Instruments Incorporated (TXN - Free Report) and Lam Research Corporation (LRCX - Free Report) are both important players in the semiconductor industry, but they operate in different parts of the supply chain. Texas Instruments focuses on analog and embedded chips used across industrial, automotive and data center applications, while Lam Research provides wafer fabrication equipment that enables chipmakers to manufacture advanced semiconductors.
Both companies are benefiting from the ongoing artificial intelligence (AI)-driven technology cycle and the broader recovery in semiconductor demand. However, investors must weigh growth prospects, profitability, risks and valuation to determine which stock offers the better opportunity today.
TXN: AI Boom and Manufacturing Strength Aid Stable GrowthTexas Instruments delivered a strong start to 2026, highlighting the benefits of its broad product portfolio and manufacturing strategy. First-quarter revenues increased 19% year over year to $4.83 billion, while earnings per share (EPS) rose 31% to $1.68.
Texas Instruments is seeing rising momentum in the data center market, which has become an important growth driver for the company. It does not compete directly in high-end AI graphics processors. Instead, it supplies analog and embedded chips that are essential for data center infrastructure. These chips help manage power delivery, battery backup systems, cooling equipment, motor controls, signal conversion and server connectivity. As modern data centers become larger and more power-intensive, the need for efficient power management solutions increases.
In 2025, Texas Instruments’ data center business reached an annual run rate of about $1.2 billion, growing more than 50% year over year. In the first quarter of 2026, revenues from the data center end market surged 90% year over year and 25% sequentially. As cloud and AI workloads continue to rise, Texas Instruments’ strong portfolio and manufacturing scale position it well to benefit from sustained demand for efficient, high-performance power solutions in data center infrastructure.
One of TXN’s biggest strengths is its manufacturing advantage. The company continues expanding its 300-millimeter wafer capacity, which supports lower production costs and stronger margins over time. In the first quarter, non-GAAP gross margin expanded 120 basis points (bps) year over year to 58%, while non-GAAP operating margin improved 490 bps to 37.5%.
Texas Instruments’ guidance for the second quarter suggests that the growth trajectory remains intact. TXN calls for second-quarter 2026 revenues in the range of $5.00-$5.40 billion. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for revenues is pegged at $5.22 billion, indicating year-over year growth of 17.4%. The company expects earnings per share between $1.77 and $2.05. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for earnings is pegged at $1.90, calling for year-over year growth of 34.8%. Estimates for second-quarter 2026 earnings have been revised upward by 22.6% in the past 60 days.
Lam Research Capitalizes on AI Spending WaveLam Research continues to benefit from rising AI-driven demand across NAND, DRAM and foundry markets. During the last earnings call, the company raised its 2026 wafer fabrication equipment (WFE) spending outlook to $140 billion from $135 billion, reflecting stronger customer spending across semiconductor segments.
In the company’s last reported financial results for the third quarter of fiscal 2026, total revenues rose 23.8% year over year to $5.84 billion and beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 1.3%, primarily driven by continued demand across the Systems and Customer Support Business Group segments. Lam Research’s non-GAAP EPS rose 41.3% year over year to $1.47 and surpassed the consensus estimate by 8.1%.
LRCX’s biggest strength lies in etch and deposition intensity tied to advanced AI chips and high-bandwidth memory. During the last earnings call, management highlighted that AI workloads are accelerating demand for higher-layer NAND and advanced DRAM nodes, areas where Lam Research has strong technological leadership. The company expects advanced packaging revenues to grow more than 50% in calendar year 2026. Its customer support business also crossed the $2 billion quarterly revenue mark for the first time, providing recurring revenue strength.
Margins are also improving steadily. Non-GAAP gross margin increased 20 basis points (bps) sequentially to 49.9% in the third quarter, while fourth-quarter guidance points to further expansion and reach 50.5%. Non-GAAP operating margin grew 70 bps quarter over quarter to 35% and is expected to reach 36.5% in the fourth quarter, supported by manufacturing efficiencies and strong product demand.
Lam Research’s fourth-quarter guidance indicates growth momentum will continue in the near term. For the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, LRCX expects revenues to be $6.60 billion (+/- $400 million). The Zacks Consensus Estimate for revenues is pegged at $6.65 billion, indicating year-over-year growth of 28.7%. The company expects EPS of $1.65 (+/- $0.15) for the fourth quarter. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for earnings is pegged at $1.65, suggesting year-over-year growth of 24.1%. Estimates for third-quarter fiscal 2026 earnings have been revised upward by 14.6% in the past 60 days.
Valuation Comparison: TXN Holds the EdgeWhile both companies are benefiting from the AI boom, valuation is where Texas Instruments gains a meaningful advantage. TXN currently trades at a forward P/E multiple of 36.94, lower than LRCX’s 48.82. While Lam Research’s higher multiple reflects its stronger near-term growth outlook, investors are already paying a significant premium for that growth.

LRCX has clearly outperformed in 2026, with shares gaining 121.3% year to date compared with TXN’s 74.4% increase. However, the stronger rally also raises the possibility that much of the AI-driven optimism is already reflected in Lam Research’s stock price. Texas Instruments offers exposure to industrial automation, automotive electronics and data center growth while trading at a more reasonable valuation.

Conclusion: TXN Seems a Better Bet Right NowBoth Texas Instruments and Lam Research remain attractive semiconductor investments with strong long-term prospects. Lam Research offers faster near-term growth and stands to benefit directly from rising semiconductor equipment spending driven by AI. However, that opportunity comes with greater exposure to industry spending cycles and a much richer valuation.
Texas Instruments offers a more balanced investment case. The company is benefiting from AI-related data center growth, strengthening industrial demand and a long-term manufacturing strategy that should continue to improve margins. Combined with its lower valuation and more diversified end markets, TXN provides a better mix of growth, stability and value. For investors seeking the stronger risk-reward opportunity today, Texas Instruments appears to be the better investment.
Texas Instruments sports a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) at present, while Lam Research carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy). You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank stocks here.
Momentum investing is all about the idea of following a stock's recent trend, which can be in either direction. In the "long context," investors will essentially be "buying high, but hoping to sell even higher." And for investors following this methodology, taking advantage of trends in a stock's price is key; once a stock establishes a course, it is more than likely to continue moving in that direction. The goal is that once a stock heads down a fixed path, it will lead to timely and profitable trades.
Even though momentum is a popular stock characteristic, it can be tough to define. Debate surrounding which are the best and worst metrics to focus on is lengthy, but the Zacks Momentum Style Score, part of the Zacks Style Scores, helps address this issue for us.
Below, we take a look at Lam Research (LRCX - Free Report) , a company that currently holds a Momentum Style Score of A. We also talk about price change and earnings estimate revisions, two of the main aspects of the Momentum Style Score.
It's also important to note that Style Scores work as a complement to the Zacks Rank, our stock rating system that has an impressive track record of outperformance. Lam Research currently has a Zacks Rank of #2 (Buy). Set to Beat the Market? In order to see if LRCX is a promising momentum pick, let's examine some Momentum Style elements to see if this semiconductor equipment maker holds up.
Looking at a stock's short-term price activity is a great way to gauge if it has momentum, since this can reflect both the current interest in a stock and if buyers or sellers have the upper hand at the moment. It's also helpful to compare a security to its industry; this can show investors the best companies in a particular area.
For LRCX, shares are up 20.95% over the past week while the Zacks Electronics - Semiconductors industry is up 6.05% over the same time period. Shares are looking quite well from a longer time frame too, as the monthly price change of 28.1% compares favorably with the industry's 5.39% performance as well.
Considering longer term price metrics, like performance over the last three months or year, can be advantageous as well. Over the past quarter, shares of Lam Research have risen 60.28%, and are up 305.66% in the last year. On the other hand, the S&P 500 has only moved 11.07% and 25.39%, respectively.
Investors should also take note of LRCX's average 20-day trading volume. Volume is a useful item in many ways, and the 20-day average establishes a good price-to-volume baseline; a rising stock with above average volume is generally a bullish sign, whereas a declining stock on above average volume is typically bearish. Right now LRCX is averaging 10,123,531 shares for the last 20 days..
Earnings OutlookThe Zacks Momentum Style Score also takes into account trends in estimate revisions, in addition to price changes. Please note that estimate revision trends remain at the core of Zacks Rank as well. A nice path here can help show promise, and we have recently been seeing that with LRCX.
Over the past two months, 13 earnings estimates moved higher compared to none lower for the full year. These revisions helped boost LRCX's consensus estimate, increasing from $5.30 to $5.70 in the past 60 days. Looking at the next fiscal year, 11 estimates have moved upwards while there have been no downward revisions in the same time period.
Bottom LineTaking into account all of these elements, it should come as no surprise that LRCX is a #2 (Buy) stock with a Momentum Score of A. If you've been searching for a fresh pick that's set to rise in the near-term, make sure to keep Lam Research on your short list.
