AI Storage Tailwinds Lift STX Shares 506% in a Year: More Upside Left?
STX.US Seagate Technology Holdings
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Key Takeaways Seagate is benefiting from AI-driven storage demand, supporting higher revenue growth and margin expansion.STX is advancing HAMR with Mozaic drives, targeting higher-capacity enterprise HDDs through 2027.STX is boosting shareholder returns with debt reduction, dividends, buybacks and strong cash flow. The AI boom has reshaped the technology landscape, creating massive demand not only for GPUs and cloud infrastructure but also for data storage solutions. As enterprises generate and retain unprecedented amounts of AI training and inference data, storage has become a critical piece of the AI value chain.

Among the biggest beneficiaries of this trend has been Seagate Technology Holdings plc (STX - Free Report) , surging an impressive 505.6% over the past year. It has outpaced the Zacks Computer-Integrated Systems industry, the Zacks Computer & Technology sector and the S&P 500’s run of 218.8%, 34.4%, and 23.1%, respectively, in the same period.

STX’s shares have exceeded its industry peers like International Business Machines Corporation (IBM - Free Report) , but lagged HDD behemoth and its direct competitor Western Digital Corporation (WDC - Free Report) and storage rival Micron Technology (MU - Free Report) . WDC, MU and IBM have gained 751.4%, 676.2% and 4.1%, respectively, during the same time frame.

STX remains one of the world's leading manufacturers of enterprise HDDs and has been aggressively developing next-generation high-capacity drives specifically designed for AI data centers. The company boasts a 52-week high of $1,145. Nonetheless, such an extraordinary rally naturally raises an important question for investors: Can Seagate continue climbing, or has the market already priced in most of the opportunity?

Accelerating AI Infrastructure Spending Fuels STX’s ExpansionAI is driving an explosion in data storage. As hyperscale cloud providers continue expanding AI infrastructure, they increasingly rely on a combination of SSDs for active workloads and HDDs for large-scale data storage. This industry trend plays directly into Seagate's strengths. Major cloud providers, including Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet and Meta Platforms, continue investing tens of billions of dollars in AI infrastructure. As they expand AI data centers, demand for enterprise storage is rising, creating a strong long-term growth opportunity for Seagate.

Management highlighted that the company is entering a “new era of structural growth” driven by strong AI-led demand, rising adoption of Mozaic products and disciplined execution focused on expanding margins, cash flow and long-term value. While SSDs dominate high-speed applications, HDDs remain significantly more cost-effective for bulk storage—especially critical in hyperscale data centers supporting AI infrastructure. Seagate is well-positioned to capture this expanding opportunity through a technology strategy focused on increasing areal density rather than unit volumes, enabling a more capital- and manufacturing-efficient path to scale while improving cost and power efficiency per terabyte. This supports its target of mid-20% exabyte growth.

HAMR Technology Gives STX a Competitive EdgeInvestment in HAMR technology is STX’s key competitive advantage. Seagate’s focus on areal density and HAMR technology supports capacity growth and cost efficiency, with new product generations planned. Mozaic 4, second-generation HAMR, delivers up to 44TB per drive, 30% more capacity than the first generation. Mozaic 4 shipments began in late March and are expected to command 70% of HAMR shipments by the end of fiscal 2027. Mozaic 5 is in development, targeting 50TB capacity, with qualification shipments in late 2027. HAMR exabyte crossover is expected by the end of 2026. The focus is on increasing capacity per unit rather than unit volume, leveraging technology to improve aerial density.

Second-generation HAMR enables continued growth, with third-generation drives with 50TB capacity expected by the end of next year. Technology innovations include laser, photonic circuitry and media improvements, with minimal impact on the bill of materials. Seagate's strategy is built on durable storage demand, technology leadership and disciplined execution. Rising AI-driven data creation is boosting demand for cost- and energy-efficient, high-capacity HDDs, while its Mozaic platform and HAMR technology strengthen its competitive position. Backed by build-to-order contracts, pricing discipline and long-term supply agreements, Seagate is improving margin visibility and profitability.

Strong hyperscaler investment and sustained nearline storage demand have prompted the company to raise its annual revenue growth outlook to at least 20%, with capacity largely committed through 2027. Seagate's disciplined pricing strategy, supported by build-to-order contracts, provides greater revenue visibility and margin stability. Strong year-over-year and sequential price increases reflect robust demand, while most pricing for fiscal 2027 is already locked in with a significant portion of capacity allocated over the next four quarters. This approach is expected to support sequential revenue and profit growth throughout fiscal 2027, with management anticipating stable pricing trends rather than further acceleration.

Seagate's margins continue to outperform expectations, driven by strong demand, a favorable product mix and technology-led cost efficiencies. Incremental gross margins have exceeded the company's 50% target, supported by higher-capacity drives, improved yields and greater production efficiency. Management expects further margin expansion as Mozaic 5 and other technology advancements enhance cost and performance.

Strong Cash Returns Enhance the Investment CaseConsistent free cash flow generation strengthens Seagate's balance sheet and provides flexibility for future investments. Seagate also rewards shareholders through dividends. The company has maintained an attractive dividend policy while continuing to invest in product innovation. For income-focused investors, this provides an additional layer of return beyond potential share-price appreciation.

Seagate is using its strong cash flow to reduce debt while returning capital to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases. After retiring $641 million in debt last quarter, the company plans to reduce its remaining convertible notes further, expand buybacks and continue investing in growth, reinforcing its commitment to long-term shareholder value. It will maintain capital discipline while continuing the transition and ramp-up of HAMR technology, with fiscal 2026 capital spending expected to remain within its target range of 4–6% of revenue.

However, investors should remain aware of several risks. The HDD industry remains cyclical, making shipments vulnerable to customer inventory corrections, slower enterprise spending and weaker PC demand. Declining SSD prices could also intensify competition, although HDDs continue to offer a significant cost advantage for exabyte-scale storage. Additionally, Seagate's reliance on large hyperscale cloud customers means changes in their purchasing schedules can lead to quarter-to-quarter revenue volatility.

Positive Estimate Revision Trend for STXSTX is currently witnessing an uptrend in estimate revisions. Earnings estimates for fiscal 2026 have inched up 0.3% to $14.93 over the past 60 days, while the same for fiscal 2027 has gone up 6.5% to $28.05.

Valuation VulnerabilitiesGoing by the price/earnings ratio, the company’s shares currently trade at 30.54 forward earnings compared with 13.5 for the industry.

In comparison, the forward 12-month price/earnings multiple for IBM, MU and WDC are 23.35X, 6.73X and 29.54X, respectively.

Is More Upside Ahead for STX Stock?Seagate's growth outlook is driven by several long-term catalysts, including sustained AI infrastructure spending, broader adoption of HAMR technology, increasing enterprise data storage needs and continued expansion of cloud data centers. Improving storage pricing, robust free cash flow and ongoing margin expansion could further boost earnings. Successful execution of its technology roadmap would strengthen Seagate's leadership in enterprise storage and support additional upside over the long term.

For investors who believe AI-driven data creation will continue accelerating over the next decade, Seagate remains an attractive way to gain exposure to one of the essential segments of the AI supply chain. While short-term pullbacks are always possible after such a strong run, the company's technological prowess, improving profitability and exposure to one of the fastest-growing technology trends suggest there could still be further upside over the long term.

Boasting a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) currently, STX is a portfolio must-have. You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank stocks here.

Wall Street Analysts Believe GFL Environmental (GFL) Could Rally 30.37%: Here's is How to Trade
GFL GFL Environmental
FMP Stock News
Original source text
GFL Environmental Inc. (GFL - Free Report) closed the last trading session at $40.89, gaining 11.8% over the past four weeks, but there could be plenty of upside left in the stock if short-term price targets set by Wall Street analysts are any guide. The mean price target of $53.31 indicates a 30.4% upside potential.

The average comprises 18 short-term price targets ranging from a low of $40.00 to a high of $65.00, with a standard deviation of $7.23. While the lowest estimate indicates a decline of 2.2% from the current price level, the most optimistic estimate points to a 59% upside. More than the range, one should note the standard deviation here, as it helps understand the variability of the estimates. The smaller the standard deviation, the greater the agreement among analysts.

While the consensus price target is highly sought after by investors, the ability and unbiasedness of analysts in setting price targets have long been questionable. And investors making investment decisions solely based on this tool would arguably do themselves a disservice.

But, for GFL, an impressive average price target is not the only indicator of a potential upside. Strong agreement among analysts about the company's ability to report better earnings than they predicted earlier strengthens this view. While a positive trend in earnings estimate revisions doesn't gauge how much a stock could gain, it has proven to be powerful in predicting an upside.

Price, Consensus and EPS Surprise

Here's What You Should Know About Analysts' Price TargetsAccording to researchers at several universities across the globe, a price target is one of many pieces of information about a stock that misleads investors far more often than it guides. In fact, empirical research shows that price targets set by several analysts, irrespective of the extent of agreement, rarely indicate where the price of a stock could actually be heading.

While Wall Street analysts have deep knowledge of a company's fundamentals and the sensitivity of its business to economic and industry issues, many of them tend to set overly optimistic price targets. Are you wondering why?

They usually do that to drum up interest in shares of companies that their firms either have existing business relationships with or are looking to be associated with. In other words, business incentives of firms covering a stock often result in inflated price targets set by analysts.

However, a tight clustering of price targets, which is represented by a low standard deviation, indicates that analysts have a high degree of agreement about the direction and magnitude of a stock's price movement. While that doesn't necessarily mean the stock will hit the average price target, it could be a good starting point for further research aimed at identifying the potential fundamental driving forces.

That said, while investors should not entirely ignore price targets, making an investment decision solely based on them could lead to disappointing ROI. So, price targets should always be treated with a high degree of skepticism.

Why GFL Could Witness a Solid UpsideThere has been increasing optimism among analysts lately about the company's earnings prospects, as indicated by strong agreement among them in revising EPS estimates higher. And that could be a legitimate reason to expect an upside in the stock. After all, empirical research shows a strong correlation between trends in earnings estimate revisions and near-term stock price movements.

Over the last 30 days, the Zacks Consensus Estimate for the current year has increased 8.5%, as one estimate has moved higher compared to no negative revision.

Moreover, GFL currently has a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy), which means it is in the top 20% of more than 4,000 stocks that we rank based on four factors related to earnings estimates. Given an impressive externally-audited track record, this is a more conclusive indication of the stock's potential upside in the near term. You can see the complete list of today's Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) stocks here >>>> .

Therefore, while the consensus price target may not be a reliable indicator of how much GFL could gain, the direction of price movement it implies does appear to be a good guide.

Is Nano Nuclear Energy a Millionaire Maker?
NNE Nano Nuclear Energy
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Nano Nuclear Energy (NNE +2.16%) isn't a normal nuclear company. It doesn't operate nuclear power plants, nor does it have plans to start generating electricity anytime soon.

Instead, it's operating in the new "advanced nuclear technology" space, which aims to make nuclear reactors smaller, cheaper, and easier to deploy. These reactors -- many still years from commercialization -- have an edge over traditional power plants. Not only do they deliver continuous, 24/7 power, but they can be assembled near where the power is needed.

That "co-location" with customers is why they seem like ideal companions for AI data centers, which is one reason Bank of America expects small reactor technology to grow into a multitrillion-dollar opportunity. So, Nano certainly has the kind of unique selling proposition that, in hindsight, might make investors wish they had gotten in early.

But can Nano really deliver on that potential -- and should investors jump on the nuclear stock today? Let's take an honest look.

How could Nano Nuclear realistically mint new millionaires from here? Nano is designing portable (and stationary) microreactors. Its flagship product, Kronos, is currently making its way through the approval process of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC). The company also wants to participate in the nuclear supply chain, from fuel services to transportation, making it a vertically integrated company.

The path to success appears straightforward. For Nano stock to truly become a millionaire maker, the company needs to pass the NRC process with flying colors, finish its first reactor construction at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, use the impeccable success of that first reactor to draw in paying customers, then monetize the other parts of its business -- like transportation and fuel -- while it waits for revenue from reactor sales.

What could go wrong, right?

Today's Change

(

2.16

%) $

0.41

Current Price

$

19.37

Well, at this point, almost everything. First, the NRC regulation process could stall, or take longer than expected. Future reactor projects could take much longer to execute than originally predicted -- this is very common with nuclear projects -- or the costs could be higher than anticipated. There could be fuel constraints or other supply chain disruptions. These challenges could cause the company to raise additional financing, which could dilute shares for existing holders.

To be sure, these are just my speculations. My point, however, is that too many open questions exist to call Nano a strong buy right now; it has the potential to become a millionaire maker, but it also has the same potential to flop.

Should you buy Nano Nuclear stock? At the end of the day, Nano is trying to create a full operating system for microreactors. That is going to take time, and investors should plan for plenty of obstacles, hiccups, and setbacks along the way. I would not buy Nano if volatility makes you uneasy, or if your time horizon isn't long enough to reap the benefits of this company's long-standing work.

If, however, you want exposure to microreactor technology, buying a few shares of Nano at today's price could be worthwhile over a long period. Just understand what Nano is right now -- a mostly pre-revenue nuclear company without a commercialized reactor yet -- and exercise prudence in measuring your position.

Anthropic, OpenAI, and SpaceX are bigger than the last 25 years of tech exits
SPCX SpaceX
FMP Stock News
Original source text
We’ve talked before about the hot IPO summer, but with SpaceX just launched to public markets and Anthropic and (maybe) OpenAI soon to come, it can be easy to miss the sheer scale of what’s happening.

We got a good reminder of it in Wednesday’s NCVA-Pitchbook Venture Monitor report. Not surprisingly, all of the money in private markets is flooding into AI — but one particular figure stood out. Taking the measure of the pending OpenAI and Anthropic IPOs, the report drops this nugget: “Along with the SpaceX IPO, these exits will generate more value than all U.S. VC-backed exits since 2000.”

That’s quite a claim, and when you add up the numbers, it’s hard to disagree. SpaceX has already gone public at a $1.77 trillion valuation, and with both Anthropic and OpenAI pushing into the trillions it’s likely the trio together will land somewhere north of $4 trillion. By comparison, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission counted just $70 billion in U.S.-based IPO proceeds last year.

Careful readers will notice a few caveats in the language. It doesn’t include non-U.S. companies like Alibaba, and we’re measuring “value created” as opposed to strictly liquid cash. A lot of the major tech developments happened at companies that had already gone public (the iPhone, the debut of Android, and the launches of YouTube and Instagram), so they wouldn’t be captured in the IPO figures.

Still… that was a pretty eventful 25 years. Among other things, that period saw IPOs from Google (2004), Tesla (2010), and Meta (2012), which are now among the most valuable companies in the world. During the same period, LinkedIn, Slack, and WhatsApp were all acquired for more than $20 billion. Uber’s $84 billion IPO seemed like a lot of money in 2019, but it’s less than 5% of what SpaceX just drummed up.

One factor here is that companies are staying private for longer. The Google of today probably would have delayed its IPO and gone public at a higher number. Another factor is the capital-intensive nature of AI training, which has pushed labs into intense fundraising and inflated valuations. But the sheer scale of the public offerings is still way beyond anything the industry has ever done, and is already pushing the financial infrastructure to its limit.

CNBC’s Leslie Picker walked Squawk Box viewers through one of the most mechanically consequential trading events of 2026: the rebalance that will force index funds to absorb billions in SpaceX (NASDAQ: SPCX) stock, whether their managers like the valuation or not. Picker’s framing was blunt: “Index funds tracking the Nasdaq-100 will have to start buying space stock whether they want to or not.”

The scale is what makes this unusual. Picker noted that “there are more than $800 billion in assets that directly track the Nasdaq 100, more than half of which is from Invesco QQQ,” and cited JPMorgan’s estimate that approximately $4.3 billion in forced purchases will hit SpaceX before it officially joins the composite. Her framing of the historical precedent was direct: “We’ve never seen something like this happen, though, at this scale so quickly after an IPO.” You can watch CNBC’s original coverage of the inclusion decision here.

Why is the Rebalance So Lopsided? Nasdaq changed its rules months ago to fast-track mega-cap listings into the index after just 15 trading days, provided the company sits inside the top 40 by market cap. SpaceX cleared that bar easily. The company debuted on June 12 at $150, spiked above $176 in early trading, and now carries a market cap of roughly $2 trillion. Shares last traded at $148.34.

Picker was careful to temper the reciprocal concern about selling pressure on existing index members: “SpaceX’s weight in the Nasdaq-100 will be very small at first, less than 1%, and these funds will have to sell a little bit from the other constituents in the index to make room, but the impact will be spread out over the other names, so it shouldn’t be noticeable.”

The company underneath the flows For readers new to the ticker, SpaceX is now a three-legged business. It launched more than 80% of the world’s mass to orbit in recent years, operates the Starlink broadband network of approximately 9,600 satellites serving customers across 164 countries, and folded in xAI’s Grok model after an early-2026 acquisition. Trailing twelve-month revenue sits at $19.3 billion per SpaceX’s most recent SEC filings, with a diluted EPS of -0.68 and an EV/Revenue multiple near 111x. Analyst consensus price target stands at $188.57, with seven buy or strong-buy ratings against one sell.

The float problem that amplifies everything Only 281 million shares of the 7.57 billion outstanding are currently in the public float. That tiny denominator is why a viral r/investing post titled “A Third of SpaceX’s Tradable Shares Are Now Betting Against It. The Squeeze Math Is Wild” has drawn 889 upvotes since late June. Reddit sentiment across investing communities has swung back to bullish at a weekly score of 65.21, focused almost entirely on the collision between the $4.3 billion mechanical bid and a constrained supply of tradable shares. Our earlier coverage of the debut, SpaceX Soars 26% in Record $75 Billion Debut, walks through how the float ended up this thin.

Whether SpaceX’s valuation ultimately proves justified is almost beside the point for the next several trading sessions. The immediate story is about market structure, not fundamentals. Billions of dollars in index-tracking capital are set to buy the stock automatically, while a relatively small public float limits the available supply of shares. That combination doesn’t guarantee higher prices, but it does create conditions that can amplify volatility in either direction. Once the rebalance is complete, investors will likely shift their focus back to the factors that matter over the long term—SpaceX’s ability to grow revenue, execute on Starlink and xAI, and eventually deliver profits that support its premium valuation. Until then, the mechanics of the index may matter just as much as the business itself.

Legendary Investor Jeremy Grantham Calls SpaceX IPO 'Craziest' Ever: 'You'll Be Laughing at It'
SPCX SpaceX
FMP Stock News

The SpaceX IPO made CEO Elon Musk a trillionaire and could make investors in the company richer in years to come if the story can play out, Grantham said in an interview on Morningstar’s "The Long View" podcast.

"Supply and demand being what it is, it’s hard to imagine the price won’t go up, and perhaps it will go up a lot," Grantham said.

The GMO co-founder and chief investment strategist said the SpaceX IPO is a "landmark historical event."

"It will be amazing, by the way, if it doesn’t collapse, because it will need such massive developments on AI that our entire lives are totally different."

Grantham said SpaceX is "the craziest IPO in the history of man," an event that had everyone lining up telling investors to buy.

"In 50 years, they’ll be telling and writing stories about SpaceX and they’ll be quoting you paragraphs from the prospectus, and you will be laughing at it."

The Elon Musk AbilityThe British investor said that Musk is good at creating perceived value for his companies, which allows him to sell stock and reinvest in them.

"You’re so good at propaganda that instead of the price falling because of the dilution, it doesn’t, and very quickly it’s multiples of fair value once again."

Grantham mentions the greater fool theory when talking about Musk in the interview and his ability to get investors. This theory involves making money by buying overvalued assets, regardless of fundamentals, and later selling them at higher prices to "greater fools."

"The cohort that invested in Musk were proven right."

Grantham said time will tell if the theory works with SpaceX.

"Whether they can pull it off with $1.7 trillion worth of hype about AI – put it this way: If AI is actually going to be so good that the $1.7 trillion is cheap."

The investor said we should hope this is just AI hype, because if it’s not, the technology could put lives at severe risk.

"I wouldn’t wish it on our species at all."

Rocket Lab Delivers Successful Mission After Shattering Launch Record: Here's What It Means for the SpaceX Competitor
SPCX SpaceX
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Rocket Lab Corporation (RKLB +0.34%) has accomplished what few aerospace companies have done. It successfully completed one of the U.S. Space Force’s (USSF) tactically demanding space missions from start to finish, demonstrating how its vertically integrated approach allows it to move far faster than traditional aerospace companies.

The company announced yesterday that it has now completed every part of the VICTUS HAZE mission that required it to design, build, and launch a spacecraft for the USSF within 24 hours of the official Notice to Launch.

More importantly, it carried out a complex orbital operation in just 59 hours to demonstrate a rapid threat-response scenario, involving the spacecraft approaching and monitoring a target satellite. In short, Rocket Lab met all the deadlines set by the USSF and delivered all phases of the tactically responsive mission in record time.

The space race’s new competitive advantage: speedOn June 19, Rocket Lab launched the mission with its Pioneer spacecraft in a record 16 hours and 42 minutes since receiving the launch notice. Following the launch, Rocket Lab’s operational team activated and verified all of Pioneer’s control systems for altitude, power, and communications, comfortably beating the mission's 72-hour operational requirement.

Following this, the spacecraft successfully performed the task at hand — a complex rendezvous and proximity operation (RPO).

In layman’s terms, this is a series of precision orbital maneuvers to locate, monitor, approach, and photograph a target satellite, completing the demonstration in just 59 hours, a good 25 hours before the Space Force's deadline of 84 hours.

Vertical integration drives this competitive advantagePerhaps the most important takeaway from the VICTUS HAZE mission is that Rocket Lab completed virtually every aspect of the mission internally.

Traditionally, rocket programs divide responsibilities among multiple contractors. Rocket Lab has turned that thinking on its head. The company designs its own spacecraft, manufactures key hardware and space software, conducts its own launch operations, and subsequently commissions and continues in-orbit operations.

By controlling a significant portion of its supply chain, Rocket Lab avoids many of the delays that come from relying on external vendors. The company’s integrated approach, where engineering, manufacturing, launch operations, and spaceflight control systems all operate under one roof, facilitates rapid decision-making and optimizes its systems, all in pursuit of speed.

This integrated approach is increasingly important as governments demand faster execution and greater operational flexibility.

Speed is now a strategic assetThis kind of responsiveness is becoming increasingly valuable as military planners prepare for a future where satellites may need to be replaced quickly or deployed during an active conflict. Defense agencies are increasingly viewing space not as a static environment, but as an operational domain requiring the ability to respond within hours instead of weeks.

Rocket Lab has now shown that it can achieve precisely this.

An even more valuable relationship in the worksThis mission should help solidify Rocket Lab's value to the U.S. military, as it establishes its ability to help meet national security needs quickly and effectively.

VICTUS HAZE is a Tactically Responsive Space (TacRS) mission by the U.S. Space Force's Space Systems Command (SSC) via SSC's Space Safari Program Office, along with the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), two groups working together to develop and deploy new military technologies and systems at a rapid pace.

Furthermore, the mission isn’t over. The Pioneer spacecraft is expected to remain in orbit for several more months as it conducts ‌more complex operations under Space Force orders, thus providing further opportunity to show its operational capabilities.

Rocket Lab and SpaceX demonstrate differing capabilitiesThe latest mission obviously raises the question: How does Rocket Lab differ from SpaceX (SPCX +0.75%)? Should investors view them as direct competitors?

The answer is quite simple: both companies are increasingly pursuing different strengths. While SpaceX dominates the heavy-lift launch market with the Falcon 9 and Starship rockets, Rocket Lab has carved out a niche in responsive, smaller launch services and integrated space systems.

SpaceX’s ultimate ambition is to explore deep space, as well as deploy large-scale commercial ride-share missions. Rocket Lab, on the other hand, distinguishes itself in its speed and integration for low Earth orbit missions.

The ability to offer end-to-end space solutions opens an entirely new space economy for investors to capitalize on. While the Electron rocket handled this mission, Rocket Lab’s upcoming Neutron rocket aims to expand into larger national security and commercial missions.

More than just a record-breaking launchRocket Lab is essentially defining how the combination of vertical integration, rapid execution, and operational expertise is the new competitive advantage. As space turns into the new frontier for national security, the need for responsive space capabilities should continue to grow.

Rocket Lab isn’t just positioning itself as another launch provider competing with SpaceX, but as a fully integrated space and defense systems company. Eventually, the market will value the company as a capable end-to-end space solutions provider that unlocks value for investors.

Apple's $30B Broadcom Bet: Best Tech ETFs to Buy Right Now
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Key Takeaways Apple signed a $30B multi-year chip agreement with Broadcom, extending supply through 2031.ETFs like XLK and GXPT hold Apple and Broadcom among their top portfolio positions. The deal supports U.S. chip manufacturing and strengthens Apple's long-term AI and supply-chain strategy. Apple's (AAPL - Free Report) recent announcement of a landmark chipmaking agreement, worth more than $30 billion, with Broadcom (AVGO - Free Report) has sent ripples through the tech sector, with the latter’s shares climbing nearly 5% on the bourses following the news.

This multi-year deal, which secures Broadcom as a key supplier of critical radio frequency (RF) and custom application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) chips through 2031, producing over 15 billion U.S.-made chips, underscores the deepening strategic ties between the two tech giants.

For investors looking to capitalize on this powerful partnership without betting on a single stock, technology exchange-traded funds (ETFs) with significant exposure to both Apple and Broadcom offer a diversified path to participate in the potential upside.

But before diving straight into the specifics of these ETFs, it is crucial to understand the strategic rationale behind Apple’s $30 billion investment, how it strengthens both giants alongside the broader tech industry, and why this partnership remains critical amid the rapidly accelerating AI infrastructure build-out, so that investors can make an informed decision.

Rationale and Industry Impact of the $30B DealThe latest agreement involving the massive $30 billion investment commitment is a strategic masterstroke for both Apple and Broadcom, which will simultaneously bolster the entire U.S. tech industry.

For Apple, the deal marks its largest commitment under its American Manufacturing Program, part of a $600 billion, four-year U.S. investment plan. It ensures a stable, long-term U.S.-based supply chain for critical components like RF filters and wireless connectivity chips, helping mitigate its supply-chain risks amid geopolitical uncertainties.

For Broadcom, the agreement eliminates its single largest long-term structural risk — the possibility of Apple replacing its components with in-house chips. This gives Broadcom long-term revenue visibility and massive cash flow security, freeing up resources to aggressively pursue its fastest-growing opportunity, custom AI accelerators.

Ultimately, the broader tech sector should benefit heavily as this transaction accelerates an end-to-end silicon supply chain within the United States, reducing reliance on foreign fabrication plants.

The Future of the Partnership Amid AI AccelerationLooking ahead, this partnership is poised to become even more critical as the AI infrastructure build-out accelerates at a breakneck pace. The agreement goes beyond traditional iPhone components; it firmly positions Broadcom as a key partner in Apple's ambitious AI roadmap.

As AI models grow more complex and pivot from training to inference, the demand for specialized, power-efficient silicon will surge. Custom ASICs are highly coveted for this exact transition due to their ability to maximize performance-per-watt for neural network algorithms. This trajectory is validated by Broadcom's proven strategy of providing tailored silicon for hyperscalers like Google, Meta, and OpenAI, cementing its status as a formidable player alongside NVIDIA (NVDA - Free Report) in the AI hardware race.

For Apple, this long-term contract secures priority access to next-generation silicon, positioning both tech giants at the vanguard of the AI revolution.

PC Shipments Fall in Q2 as Memory Crunch Weighs on Industry Growth
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Key Takeaways Global PC shipments fell 4.9% in Q2 after nine quarters of growth as memory shortages hit supply.Apple stood out with 10.1% shipment growth, helped by the MacBook Neo launch and supply management.IDC expects memory shortages to last until early 2028, keeping pricing pressure elevated into 2027. The global PC market lost momentum in the second quarter of 2026 after posting growth for nine consecutive quarters. According to a report by the International Data Corporation (“IDC”), worldwide PC shipments fell 4.9% year over year to 68.2 million units as a prolonged memory chip shortage disrupted production and limited product availability. The decline highlights that supply constraints, rather than weak customer demand alone, are becoming a major challenge for the industry.

The biggest reason behind the decline was the shortage of DRAM memory chips, per the IDC report. PC makers had previously built inventories in anticipation of supply disruptions, but that strategy is becoming harder to sustain as memory availability remains tight. Storage component shortages and geopolitical uncertainties also added pressure to manufacturing and shipments.

IDC expects the memory shortage to continue until early 2028, reducing the likelihood of another inventory build-up and slowing market growth through the rest of 2026 and into 2027.

A Glance at Top PC Vendors’ Performance in Q2Among the leading PC makers, Lenovo Group Limited (LNVGY - Free Report) remained the global leader with 16.6 million shipments and a 24.4% market share, although its shipments slipped 2.1% from a year earlier. HP Inc. (HPQ - Free Report) experienced the sharpest decline among the top three vendors, with shipments dropping 9% to 13 million units. HP ended the second quarter with a market share of 19.1%. Dell Technologies Inc. (DELL - Free Report) also posted a 5% decline, shipping 9.3 million PCs while maintaining a 13.6% market share.

Apple Inc. (AAPL - Free Report) was the standout performer in the quarter. Shipments rose 10.1% year over year to 6.7 million units, increasing its market share to 9.9% from 8.5% a year ago. According to IDC, the successful launch of the MacBook Neo, combined with strong supply chain management, helped Apple grow despite industry-wide cost pressures. ASUS delivered stable results, with shipments remaining nearly unchanged at 5 million units, with a market share of 7.4%.

Emerging Trends in the PC IndustryAlthough PC shipment volumes declined in the second quarter, the industry's revenue picture remains stronger than the shipment data suggests. IDC stated that PC makers have successfully passed rising component costs on to customers by increasing product prices. As a result, many vendors are earning more revenues, even while selling fewer systems.

However, this trend comes with risks. Higher PC prices may cause consumers and businesses to delay replacement purchases, especially if economic conditions remain weak. IDC expects the memory shortage to continue until early 2028, meaning pricing pressure could remain elevated well into 2027.

Another important trend highlighted by the IDC report is the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the PC market. Businesses and consumers are increasingly looking for devices that can process AI applications directly on PCs instead of relying entirely on cloud services. Local AI processing can improve performance while reducing cloud computing costs. However, higher hardware prices caused by expensive memory chips may slow the pace of AI PC adoption in the near term. Once memory supplies improve, the AI PC market is expected to regain stronger momentum.

IDC also pointed out an interesting trend that large vendors are gaining an edge over the smaller ones amid the ongoing supply crunch. Companies with stronger supplier relationships and greater purchasing power are better positioned to secure limited memory supplies. Their broader businesses across servers, smartphones, and other devices also provide additional leverage when negotiating with suppliers.

As a result, IDC expects further consolidation in the industry, with leading brands likely to capture a larger share of the market while smaller vendors struggle with supply constraints and rising costs.

PC Market’s Outlook Remains ChallengingIDC’s second-quarter PC shipment report indicates that supply constraints have become the biggest challenge for the PC industry. While higher prices are helping protect revenues and margins, prolonged memory shortages could slow the PC upgrade cycle over the next several quarters. Companies with strong supply chains and pricing power are likely to perform better than smaller rivals.

Investors should closely watch memory availability, pricing trends and AI PC demand, as these factors will play a major role in shaping the industry's recovery over the next two years.

Of the leading vendors, Dell Technologies and Lenovo each sport a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) at present. Meanwhile, HP and Apple each carry a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank stocks here.

FMP Stock News
Original source text
This has been a forgettable year for Meta Platforms (META 2.50%) investors so far. Shares of the tech giant are down 5% as of this writing, underperforming the tech-laden Nasdaq Composite index that has logged 11% gains in 2026.

Concerns about Meta's aggressive capital spending on artificial intelligence (AI) projects and the potential returns of these investments have weighed on its stock price this year. However, the Magnificent Seven stock jumped nearly 9% on July 1 after a report emerged that it may be entering the lucrative AI cloud market.

Let's see what this potential move may mean for Meta stock.

Meta Platforms can unlock a multibillion-dollar opportunity with this move According to Bloomberg News, Meta Platforms is planning to sell its excess AI cloud computing capacity to customers. It was easy to see why this report gave Meta stock a big boost. The company is on track to spend $135 billion in capital expenditure this year at the midpoint of its guidance range, up significantly from $72.2 billion last year.

Meta has been spending heavily to integrate AI tools across its applications and advertising offerings, as well as to build frontier AI models (the most advanced kind of foundational AI models) through its Superintelligence Labs division. The good news is that these investments are driving tangible gains for Meta.

The company's Muse Spark advanced AI model, which is the first one to be launched by Meta Superintelligence Labs and powers the Meta AI assistant, has led to a double-digit percentage increase in user sessions on Meta AI. Additionally, the Meta AI business assistant is resolving its clients' issues at 20% faster, while the number of advertisers using the company's generative AI creative tools now stands at more than 8 million.

Meta is also pushing the envelope in AI wearables. The daily users of its AI glasses doubled year over year in Q1. Still, the toll that Meta's heavy spending may take on its bottom line has got the market worried. So, when reports emerged that this tech giant would start selling its AI cloud excess capacity, investors heaved a sigh of relief.

This will allow Meta to monetize the unused cloud computing capacity in its inventory, mitigating Wall Street's worries that it is overspending on AI infrastructure. This could be a smart move if Meta indeed decides to rent out excess infrastructure. Also, Bloomberg News reports that Meta will offer access to its AI models to customers renting AI compute capacity, in addition to raw compute capacity to run their own models and applications.

Meta, therefore, could be poised to enter the massive AI cloud market that's expected to generate $267 billion in revenue in 2030, according to Gartner. Entering this market will supercharge Meta's already impressive growth. The company's Q1 revenue increased 33% year over year to $56.3 billion. However, aggressive capital spending resulted in a smaller 14% increase in its adjusted earnings per share (after excluding the one-time income tax benefit of $3.13 per share).

However, as Meta's investments in AI infrastructure start paying off, its bottom-line growth should also accelerate, following an estimated 8.5% jump in 2026.

Data by YCharts

Also, if Meta enters the cloud AI market like other Magnificent Seven companies, it could clock faster growth than Wall Street's expectations.

The stock's valuation and upside potential make it a no-brainer buy Meta's underperformance this year explains why the stock is trading at attractive levels. It has a trailing earnings multiple of 21, a significant discount to the Nasdaq Composite's earnings multiple of 39. Of course, Meta's tepid earnings growth explains why it is cheap right now. However, a potential acceleration in growth could eventually lead the market to reward it with a higher valuation, resulting in more upside.

On the other hand, Meta is trading at 7 times sales, a slight premium to the Nasdaq Composite's average sales multiple of 5.3. The gains that Meta's AI tools are bringing for advertisers, along with its reported entry into AI cloud infrastructure, could help it exceed Wall Street's growth estimates over the next three years.

Analysts are anticipating a 26% jump in Meta's revenue this year. That's expected to be followed by healthy double-digit growth in 2027 and 2028, albeit at a slower rate.

Data by YCharts

Meta could exceed those numbers, especially given its growing share of the digital ad market. According to eMarketer, Meta's digital ad market share could hit 27% in 2026, surpassing Google. This indicates that the integration of AI tools into Meta's advertising platform is paying off. Given that the digital ad market's revenue is expected to surpass $1.5 trillion in 2030, there is a strong likelihood of Meta cruising past consensus revenue estimates.

But even if it generates $354 billion in revenue in 2028 and maintains its 7x sales multiple, its market cap could jump to $2.5 trillion. That suggests a potential 60% upside over three years, which is why investors should consider buying this AI stock while it trades at attractive levels.

META's $9B AI Infrastructure Bet, Cloud Ambitions: Is the Stock a Buy?
FB Meta Platforms
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Key Takeaways Meta is building a $9B Alberta data center as part of its aggressive AI infrastructure expansion.A cloud business could help Meta monetize AI investments and reduce its reliance on advertising.Heavy AI spending, rich valuation and execution risks may make a better entry point worth waiting for. Meta Platforms (META - Free Report) has built one of the world's most profitable digital advertising businesses. Nearly 98% of its revenues still comes from ads, while artificial intelligence (AI) has helped improve content recommendations, advertising performance and user engagement across its apps.

But the company is thinking beyond advertising and is laying the groundwork for its next phase of growth. In the latest infrastructure push, Meta is building its first data center outside the United States—a 1-gigawatt facility in Alberta, Canada, expected to cost about $9 billion. That would be the company’s 33rd data center. Separately, reports indicate Meta is exploring a cloud computing business by potentially renting excess computing capacity or offering AI services to outside customers.

Over the past year, META stock has underperformed the broader industry and peers like Amazon (AMZN - Free Report) and Alphabet (GOOGL - Free Report) but has surpassed Microsoft (MSFT - Free Report) .

1-Year Price Performance Comparison Image Source: Zacks Investment Research

Do Meta's aggressive AI infrastructure investments and potential cloud plans strengthen its long-term investment case? And is META stock a buy at current levels?

The AI Infrastructure Build-Out ContinuesMeta's Alberta facility is the latest step in the company's AI infrastructure expansion. As AI models become larger and more compute-intensive, Meta is rapidly adding data center capacity to support growing demand for AI infrastructure and services.

Alberta offers several advantages for such a project, including abundant energy, industrial land and a business-friendly regulatory environment. The data center is also expected to create more than 3,000 construction jobs at its peak, while supporting local infrastructure and community investments.

Meta is building this infrastructure to train and deploy its Llama AI models and power AI experiences across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and Threads.

Meta is not alone. Amazon, Microsoft and Alphabet are also investing on a huge scale in AI infrastructure and data centers to meet surging demand for generative AI.

Could Meta Become the Next Cloud Provider?Alongside its infrastructure expansion, Meta is reportedly evaluating another opportunity—cloud computing.

Per Bloomberg reports, the company is debating whether to offer customers access to AI models hosted on its infrastructure or simply rent out excess computing capacity. If launched, the business would compete with Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, which have become major revenue contributors for Amazon, Microsoft and Alphabet, respectively.

For investors, the significance lies in diversification. Meta has invested significantly in AI infrastructure over the past several years. A cloud business could provide another way to generate returns from those investments while reducing the company's overwhelming dependence on advertising.

However, cloud computing also comes with challenges. Unlike advertising, cloud infrastructure is a lower-margin business that requires significant investments in servers, networking, enterprise sales and customer support. Alphabet offers a useful example. While Google's advertising business enjoys operating margins above 40%, Google Cloud took years to become profitable and still operates at much lower margins. If Meta eventually enters the cloud market, investors should expect greater revenue diversification, but potentially lower overall profitability.

AI Is Already Strengthening Meta’s Core BusinessMeta is already benefiting from its AI investments. Instagram Reels watch time increased 10% globally during the first quarter of 2026, while Facebook video watch time rose 8%. AI-translated videos are now watched weekly by more than 500 million users across Facebook and Instagram. Threads also surpassed 500 million monthly active users.

Meta's ecosystem remains one of its biggest competitive advantages. More than 3.56 billion people use at least one of its apps every day, giving the company enormous amounts of data to improve AI models and deliver better advertising results.

The company is also expanding monetization opportunities through paid messaging on WhatsApp, subscription offerings across Facebook, Instagram and Meta AI, and new AI tools such as Muse Image.

Meta’s Elevated Spending Remains a ConcernWhile Meta is seeing tangible benefits from AI, the cost of building that advantage remains a key concern. Its aggressive AI spending has raised investor concerns, as the financial returns from these massive investments are likely to take time to materialize.

Meta now expects 2026 capital expenditures between $125 billion and $145 billion, above its previous guidance, while operating expenses are projected between $162 billion and $169 billion. This is expected to put pressure on free cash flow and near-term earnings.

Meta is not alone in this spending race. Alphabet raised its 2026 capital expenditure outlook to $180-$190 billion, reflecting higher AI compute demand and additional investments tied to the Wiz acquisition. Microsoft expects to invest roughly $190 billion during fiscal 2026, while Amazon plans to spend around $200 billion and continues investing aggressively to expand AWS and its AI infrastructure.

META Valuation CheckMETA stock is trading at a premium valuation. Its forward 12-month P/S of 5.45X is above the Zacks Internet Software industry's 3.89X. The stock also carries a Value Score of C.

How to Play META Stock NowMeta is making the right long-term strategic bets, but investors may have to wait longer for those investments to deliver meaningful financial returns. The stock has a rich valuation, and heavy AI spending is likely to weigh on free cash flow and earnings over the near term. Although Wall Street's consensus price target implies roughly 37% upside from current levels, that potential is accompanied by significant execution risk.

Existing shareholders can continue to hold the stock for its long-term AI potential, but new investors may be better off waiting for a more attractive entry point. META currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here.

Meta's Most Important AI Customer Might Be Meta
FB Meta Platforms
FMP Stock News
Original source text
While the company continues rolling out consumer-facing AI products—including the recently introduced Muse Image and upcoming Muse Video models—Meta has also been quietly embedding artificial intelligence throughout its own operations, particularly inside its engineering organization.

Meta Is Using AI To Build MetaMeta’s internal AI push extends well beyond public-facing products.

According to reports, the company has set ambitious internal goals for AI-assisted software development, encouraging engineers to adopt coding tools such as DevMate, Metamate and Google’s Gemini. Some engineering teams have targets for AI to assist with the majority of their code changes, while Meta has also pushed broader adoption of AI tools across its technical workforce.

Separately, Meta has been consolidating many of its workplace AI capabilities into Metamate, its primary internal enterprise AI assistant. The company has said it wants Metamate to become the starting point for a wide range of employee tasks—from conducting research and prototyping new features to preparing presentations and coordinating work across teams.

Why Investors Should CareThe strategy highlights a different way to think about AI returns. Rather than measuring success solely by chatbot users or subscriptions, investors may also want to consider how artificial intelligence improves Meta’s own productivity.

Engineering talent represents one of the company’s largest operating expenses. If AI helps developers write code faster, automate routine tasks or shorten product development cycles, Meta could improve the return on one of its biggest investments without adding new revenue streams.

That’s a different kind of AI payoff—one driven by operating leverage rather than direct monetization.

Investment TakeawayMeta’s consumer AI products will continue to attract headlines, and Muse Image is the latest example of the company’s push to expand AI across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and its Meta AI assistant.

But the company’s internal AI strategy may prove just as significant.

By integrating tools like DevMate and Metamate into everyday engineering and workplace workflows, Meta is betting that AI won’t just build better products—it will help build a more productive Meta. For long-term investors, that could make the company itself one of the biggest beneficiaries of its own AI revolution.

Meta launches Muse Spark 1.1 AI model with expanded agentic capabilities
FB Meta Platforms
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META, XETRA:FB2A, SIX:FB)’s Meta Superintelligence Labs on Thursday announced the launch of Muse Spark 1.1, an updated multimodal reasoning model designed for advanced artificial intelligence workflows, including autonomous agent tasks, coding and computer-use applications.

The release expands Meta’s push into the enterprise AI market, with the company also opening a public preview of the Meta Model API, allowing external developers to access Muse Spark 1.1 for the first time.

Meta said Muse Spark 1.1 features a one-million-token context window and improvements in tool use, multimodal reasoning and coding performance.

The company positioned the model as capable of handling complex workflows by operating within multi-agent systems, where it can act as both a primary agent coordinating tasks and a subagent completing specialized assignments.

The model is currently available in “Thinking” mode through the Meta AI app and meta.ai, while developers can access it through the Meta Model API.

According to Meta, Muse Spark 1.1 is designed to manage long-running tasks by retaining relevant context, retrieving information from earlier parts of a workflow and coordinating actions across multiple tools. The company said the model can navigate computer interfaces, automate tasks, write scripts when appropriate and adapt to changing requirements during extended sessions.

Meta also highlighted improvements in software development capabilities, saying Muse Spark 1.1 can assist with debugging, feature development and large-scale code migrations. Internal testing on the company’s Meta Internal Coding Bench showed improvements over the previous Muse Spark model and competitive performance against other leading AI systems, Meta said.

The company added that Muse Spark 1.1 offers expanded multimodal capabilities, including the ability to interpret images, video and other visual information while using those inputs in agent-driven tasks.

Meta said the model underwent safety evaluations focused on areas including cybersecurity, chemical and biological risks, and potential loss-of-control scenarios before deployment. The company reported that the model remained within its safety thresholds across those evaluations.

Shares of Meta were little changed at $605 following the update, having fallen more than 8% so far this year.

Meta stock rises as AI chip plans and Muse Spark 1.1 rollout take focus
FB Meta Platforms
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Meta Platforms Inc. META shares traded higher on Thursday, reversing early losses as investors assessed the company's latest artificial intelligence initiatives.

This includes plans to begin manufacturing an in-house AI chip and the public preview of its upgraded Muse Spark 1.1 model.

The developments show Meta's efforts to strengthen its AI infrastructure, reduce reliance on third-party chip suppliers, and expand its portfolio of proprietary AI products as competition with OpenAI, Anthropic and Google intensifies.

According to an internal memo reviewed by Reuters, Meta plans to begin manufacturing its in-house artificial intelligence chip, code-named Iris, from September.

The chip is part of the company's four-generation Meta Training and Inference Accelerators (MTIA) program and is designed to improve the AI systems powering Facebook and Instagram.

Reuters reported that testing of the chip took just six weeks and uncovered no major issues, marking progress for an in-house chip initiative that has faced challenges since it began more than five years ago.

Meta is working with Broadcom on the chip's design, while Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) will manufacture it.

The custom silicon is intended to complement the large number of graphics processing units (GPUs) Meta purchases from Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) while helping the company lower computing costs and reduce dependence on external suppliers.

Meta plans to deploy seven gigawatts of computing infrastructure this year before doubling capacity to 14 gigawatts in 2027.

To support its AI expansion, the company has secured long-term supply agreements with Samsung Electronics for memory chips, Sandisk for flash storage and Sumitomo Electric for fiber-optic equipment.

Alongside its infrastructure investments, Meta introduced Muse Spark 1.1, describing it as the latest version of its AI model focused on coding and agentic AI capabilities.

The company is making the model available through a public developer preview, allowing developers to join a waitlist for API access through Meta's developer portal.

"This is going to be served on top of the computer infrastructure that we’ve built," said Meta's AI chief Alexandr Wang.

Wang said the updated model is Meta's "strongest model for agentic and coding work yet."

He also said the pricing is "very aggressive and attractive" compared with competing offerings from OpenAI and Anthropic. New API users will receive $20 in free credits before usage-based pricing begins.

"The goal is to really have attractive pricing that scales with immense consumption usage," Wang said.

According to Wang, Meta trained Muse Spark 1.1 to strengthen coding capabilities because "You kind of have to build coding capabilities as part of that in service of overall agentic capabilities."

Meta said it is currently limiting API access to its own ecosystem rather than making the model available through third-party AI marketplaces.

The latest announcements come as Meta continues to increase spending on AI infrastructure.

Reuters reported that the company expects to spend as much as $145 billion on AI infrastructure this year, accounting for a significant share of Big Tech's projected AI investment.

The company also announced plans to build its first Canadian data center in Sturgeon County, Alberta.

The AI-optimized facility represents an investment of more than CAD $13 billion, is expected to support about 3,000 construction jobs at peak and more than 300 operational positions, and will run on 100% clean and renewable energy.

Meta patents ‘creepy' AI device that tracks wearer's sighs and laughter, medication intake
FB Meta Platforms
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta has filed a patent for a “creepy” AI-powered wearable device that would be capable of tracking the user’s emotional state – right down to their sighs and laughter and what time of day they take medication.

The patent filing, which was published on July 2, describes an “apparatus” for “emotional state analysis and real-time fitness coaching.” Meta wrote in part that the device would use insights such as whether the user is happy or sad to generate a workout routine.

“The AI assistant may listen to a user(s) at predefined times to hear various types of communication, such as sighs, laughter, and/or the tone(s) of a voice(s),” the filing says. “The AI assistant may use these inputs to quantify the user’s emotional state or generate other insights about the user.”

Meta’s patent filing was published on July 2. US PATENT OFFICE Meta’s filing adds that AI software tied to the wearable device could use the data it tracks to “provide a summary of emotional trends based on various inputs (e.g., a happier emotional state associated with a particular time of day or at a time when medication is taken, etc.).”

In one scenario described by the patent filing, Meta’s wearable would recognize when a “user laughs with friend at dinner at 5:15 pm,” and the audio of that moment would be “recognized and logged by AI.”

Meta asserts that an AI-powered fitness device would be more effective that a human personal trainer in crafting routines for users. It could be capable of providing real-time feedback on form during particular exercises and dictating workouts when the wearer is most emotionally “ready” for them.

“Like other companies, patents at Meta are often filed to disclose concepts that may or may not be implemented, and a granted patent does not guarantee that Meta has pursued or will pursue the technology described,” a Meta spokesperson said in a statement.

The patent was first reported by Patentlyze and 404 Media.

Meta said it may or may not pursue actually building the device. US PATENT OFFICE The filing drew immediate pushback from online safety advocates, including Fairplay executive director Josh Golin, whose organization has repeatedly blasted Meta for pursuing invasive technologies.

“This creepy patent appears to be part of Meta’s grand plans to monitor every aspect of our lives in order to profit off of ads targeted to users’ emotional vulnerabilities,” Fairplay executive director Josh Golin said in a statement.

Critics have long accused Mark Zuckerberg of prioritizing profits over user privacy. REUTERS “For impressionable young people, this is particularly worrisome and speaks to why privacy legislation that limits data collection and bans targeted ads to minors is so desperately needed,” Golin added.

Critics have long accused Zuckerberg of prioritizing profits over user privacy and safety. Those concerns have been amplified in recent months as Meta leans further into its “smart” glasses.

Meta has pushed heavily into “smart” devices. REUTERS The company came under fire last month when Wired reported that it had quietly embedded facial recognition software in its glasses with the capacity to identify specific people who cross paths with the wearer. Meta claimed the software hadn’t shipped to consumers and blasted the news outlet for what it called “advocacy-driven click bait.”

The smart glasses previously drew flak for enabling creeps to record themselves making unwanted passes at unsuspecting women.

5 Stocks Cathie Wood Is Snapping Up at a Discount Right Now
TSLA Tesla
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Known as one of the boldest portfolio managers out there, Cathie Wood of Ark Invest likes to swing for the fences with her exchange-traded funds (ETFs). This has led to some years of big gains for her flagship fund, the Ark Innovation ETF (ARKK +1.85%). In 2023, it rose 67.6%, and in 2025, it gained 35.5%. It has also resulted in some years with steep losses, like 2022, when it plunged by 67%.

As a rule, Wood invests in companies with disruptive technology, and she's willing to make big bets on those innovators. Let's look at five stocks she was recently buying on the dip.

SpaceX

Although SpaceX (SPCX +0.58%) had its initial public offering less than a month ago, Wood has already made the stock one of her 10 largest positions, and she has been scooping up more shares as the stock has come down from its early peak. SpaceX is trying to be at the center of disrupting several industries. Among its goals is to deploy a constellation of data center satellites in space, create a giant chip manufacturing facility, and potentially compete with tradition mobile carriers with its Starlink satellite broadband service.

However, the stock trades at a high valuation, and the company will need to overcome numerous technical hurdles to achieve any of these moonshot objectives.

Cerebras

Current Price

$

188.56

Cerebras (NASDAQ: CBRS) is another recent arrival to the public market that has pulled back to well below its IPO price, and Wood recently added some shares of the company to a couple of Ark ETFs. Cerebras has an innovative solution for inference that embeds SRAM (static random-access memory) directly onto its chips. This gives the company a superior solution for inference, but it comes at a premium price, as its technology is based on huge, wafer-sized chips -- each about the size of a dinner plate -- that need special cooling and energy-management solutions that need to be sold or rented as complete systems.

Right now, Cerebras is a niche player in the chip space, but it has the potential to upend the inference market. It also has a big deal in place with OpenAI.

Tesla

Today's Change

(

Wood has continued to add to her biggest position, Tesla (TSLA 0.28%). Tesla shares fell despite the electric vehicle (EV) market reporting better-than-expected second-quarter deliveries, led by gains in Europe, as U.S. deliveries remain weak. However, Wood's thesis on Tesla largely centers on the company's robotaxi ambitions, and its rideshare service recently debuted in a second market, Miami.

I remain skeptical of Tesla's robotaxi ambitions. Its autonomous driving solution has safety issues relative to competitors that use lida, and Waymo now has a first-mover advantage. If Tesla's robotaxi or robotics ambitions don't pan out as management has promised, the stock is clearly overvalued based on its core business.

Circle Internet Stablecoin platform Circle Internet (CRCL 1.05%) has been seeing its shares sell off following the news that Open Standard is introducing a rival stablecoin called Open USD, and Wood has been buying the pullback. The stock has lost nearly 70% of its value over the past year, during which time Wood has made it the Ark Innovation ETF's 12th-largest holding.

Circle has strong liquidity and a first-mover advantage that may make it difficult to unseat in this huge market. It's deeply integrated into decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, crypto exchanges, and corporate treasury pilot programs. However, a serious threat could be looming: Big banks are expected to roll out a tokenized deposit network next year through The Clearing House that will introduce blockchain to mainstream finance. Circle will likely continue to dominate as the bridge between crypto networks and finance apps, but it likely won't be able to break into mainstream banking, which could limit the stock's upside.

Palantir Another stock Wood has been buying on the dip is Palantir (PLTR 3.88%). The company has been caught in the software-as-a-service (SaaS) industry sell-off, although its unique position in the AI ecosystem would make it one of AI's biggest long-term winners. The company's Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP) acts as an AI orchestration layer that helps reduce hallucinations and makes AI more useful for enterprises by gathering all of an organization's data and placing it in an ontology that it then links to real-world processes and objects.

While the stock is not cheap, trading at a price-to-sales (P/S) multiple of 39 times, the company has been seeing rapid and accelerating revenue growth, including a surge of 85% last quarter. Given how many use cases there could be for AIP across industries, Palantir has the potential to eventually become one of the largest companies in the world.

Forget Tesla: If You Dislike That Tesla Remains Long on Promises and Short on Delivery, Play This Inverse ETF
TSLA Tesla

Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA | TSLA Price Prediction) is once again eating the financial press, with a $1.58 trillion market cap resting on Cybercab, Optimus, and robotaxi promises that traders keep paying up to own. But here’s what you should actually be watching.

The Hot Ticker Is Selling You a Timeline Strip away the AI narrative and Tesla is an auto manufacturer trading at 381 times trailing earnings, 200 times forward earnings, and a PEG ratio near 6. Its net profit margin sits at 3.95% and return on equity at 4.9%. Those are industrial-company fundamentals wearing a software-company multiple.

The delivery record is worse than the marketing suggests. Full-year 2025 revenue fell 2.93% and net income dropped 46.79%. Q4 2025 vehicle deliveries came in at 418,227 units, down 16% year over year. Q3 2025 EPS missed by 10.35% while operating expenses jumped 50% YoY on AI and R&D. Cybercab, Semi, and Megapack 3 have been described as “on schedule for volume production starting in 2026” in filings going back to Q2 2025. Same promise, new quarter.

Retail is catching on. The most-discussed Reddit thread in the last 30 days asked flatly: “People buying Tesla at a $1.2T valuation: what is the actual bull case?” It drew 630 comments and 702 upvotes. Shares are down 10.41% year to date and trading below both the 50-day and 200-day moving averages. This is a crowded trade beginning to lose its choir.

Where Retirement Money Should Actually Look Ford (NYSE:F) is the redirect. A $55 billion market cap, forward P/E of 8, and a 4.49% dividend yield. Three points make the case.

1. Execution is showing up in the numbers. Q1 2026 delivered EPS of $0.66, revenue of $43.25 billion up 6% YoY, and adjusted EBIT of $3.49 billion, a $2.50 billion improvement year over year. Management then raised full-year 2026 adjusted EBIT guidance to $8.5 billion to $10.5 billion. Companies raise guidance when the current quarter is already in the bag.

Act now: the analyst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just named his top 10 AI stocks — and Tesla didn't make the cut. Grab the names FREE today.

2. Ford Pro is a real recurring-revenue story hiding in plain sight. Paid software subscriptions reached 879,000, up 30% YoY, with segment EBIT margin at 11.4%. That is the sticky commercial-fleet software business Wall Street is willing to pay 40x earnings for elsewhere. Here you get it inside an 8x stock.

3. Capital is coming back to shareholders. A $0.15 quarterly dividend was paid June 1, 2026, alongside $311 million in Q1 buybacks and $17.65 billion in cash. CEO Jim Farley told investors Ford is targeting an “8% adjusted EBIT margin by 2029.” Tesla returns capital through stock-based compensation and pitch decks.

For investors who want direct short exposure to the promise-heavy name rather than the constructive alternative, the AXS TSLA Bear Daily ETF (NASDAQ:TSLQ) holds 22.33% of net assets in inverse Tesla derivatives. That is a tactical trade for short-term positioning only.

For long-term investors weighing the two, Ford offers a profitable automaker paying cash today while Tesla’s timeline continues to slip.

Elon Musk Lost His Trillionaire Status as SpaceX Shares Dropped 26%. Are Tesla and SpaceX Stock Still a Buy?
TSLA Tesla
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Elon Musk has been the wealthiest man in the world since 2024, and he reached trillionaire status for the first time when Space Exploration Technologies (SPCX +0.75%) stock briefly topped $200 a share in its first week of trading. However, SpaceX stock is now 26% off its highs, and Elon Musk is no longer a trillionaire.

What does that mean for his companies, SpaceX and Tesla (TSLA +1.26%), and for shareholders?

Elon Musk and ownership Many of the world's billionaires have their wealth tied up in stock, usually as executives of their companies. Elon Musk heads two of the world's top-15 most valuable companies, and he owns a substantial stake in each. As of July, he owns 717.1 million Tesla shares, or 15.7% of the company, which is worth about $282.4 billion at today's price. He also owns about 46% of SpaceX stock, with more that could come his way based on performance measures. At today's prices, that's $704.5 billion worth, and together, his net worth is $987 billion, just shy of $1 trillion.

Both of these stocks have been sliding lately, although they're both trillion-dollar companies. SpaceX is the seventh-most-valuable company in the U.S., worth $1.94 trillion, while Tesla is 11th and worth $1.48 trillion. Tesla stock is down 12.4% this year. At $148 a share, SpaceX stock is still over its IPO price of $135, but it's dropped below its market open price of $150.

What about other shareholders? Tesla shareholders have been well-rewarded over time. It's up more than 24,640% since it went public and has almost certainly minted some millionaires, even retail investors who aren't company insiders. However, like SpaceX, it has attracted investors based on hype and Elon Musk fandom. It's a growing company, but there's accelerating competition in the electric vehicle space, and there are worries about lower profits and a high valuation -- based on its shrinking net income, the stock currently trades at 368 times trailing 12-month earnings.

SpaceX is even more expensive, trading at 110 times sales, and it's reporting high net losses. It's even clearer that the investing thesis is based on confidence in Elon Musk's vision.

Both of these are risky stocks, but SpaceX has an added risk tied to Elon Musk's ownership, and that's his 82.3% voting rights. That means other shareholders have no recourse if they're unhappy with his leadership or in making any other decisions about the company and its direction.

Right now, neither one of these companies looks like a great bargain on the dip.

Uber's CTO embedded its top AI engineers in HR, finance, and legal, and found better ways to build

Uber CTO Praveen Neppalli Naga said that the company is rolling out AI agents across the company using "agentic pods." Big Event Media/Getty Images for HumanX Conference Uber has a new approach to using AI: "Agentic pods."

Praveen Neppalli Naga, the ride-hailing company's tech chief, said in an X post on Tuesday that Uber embedded 30 of its "most AI-proficient engineers" with teams across the company, including finance, legal, and human resources.

Over two weeks, the engineers worked with employees in those departments, observed their work, and created AI agents to help handle tasks, Naga said. Uber has run 16 such Agentic Pods over the past two months, he said.

Many of the duties that Uber's engineers developed agents for, such as financial pacing reports, involved accessing multiple systems and performing a lot of manual work. The engineers had to work directly with the people responsible for them to understand how to recreate them with AI.

"You can't automate them effectively by looking at process diagrams or documentation," Naga said in his post. "You have to understand how the work actually gets done."

The resulting agents are saving Uber time. Those financial pacing reports can now be made in 10 minutes, down from two days, Naga said. Allocating capital across 150 cities Uber operates in, a task that used to take 15 hours, now takes 30 minutes with AI agents.

Uber's experience with pods points to a role that's become a rare bright spot amid industry layoffs. Despite job cuts, tech companies are still hiring forward-deployed engineers, Business Insider reported in May. The job often involves an engineer from an AI company working with employees at a customer firm.

Whether those efficiencies are worth it is another question.

In May, Uber's chief operating officer, Andrew Macdonald, said on a podcast that it was getting harder for the company to justify spending as much as it has on AI.

Uber, like many tech companies, has ramped up spending on AI. Naga told The Information that Uber maxed out its Claude Code budget for the year this spring. All that spending hasn't led to a similar increase in "useful" consumer features, though, Macdonald said.

Uber plans to keep using the agentic pod model, Naga said in his X post.

"We're now forming a dedicated team to scale this further and go deeper," he said.

"They'll deeply understand the work, redesign it from the ground up, and use AI to fundamentally change how the business operates," he added.

Revenue of $109.90 billion was up 21.8% year over year, cloud grew 63%, and CEO Sundar Pichai declared that “our AI investments and full stack approach are driving performance across our business.”

Shares sit at $364.90 after a 16.43% YTD move. The question I want to answer: can this stock realistically trade at $700 by 2030?

What’s Holding Alphabet Back Right Now Alphabet is digesting a monster rally. The stock is up 102.68% over one year, but the one-month change is -0.17% and shares trade 6% below the 52-week high of $404.23.

The pause has a clear cause: capital intensity. Q1 CapEx hit $35.67 billion, more than double year over year, and management now guides 2026 CapEx to $180 billion to $190 billion with 2027 to significantly increase. Free cash flow fell 46.63% year over year in Q1. With a beta of 1.247, the stock swings hard when investors question whether AI spend converts to durable returns.

Wall Street Sees 17% Upside. Our Model Sees More The Street consensus target is $426.62, with 14 Strong Buy, 44 Buy, 7 Hold, and zero Sell ratings. Bullish sentiment is 89%. Our model’s one-year base case is $441.86 (upside of 21.09%), with a bull case of $460.11 and bear case of $356.11.

For 2030 the base case is $605.69 at 90% confidence, with a bull case of $649.17. I think consensus is too static. Quarterly earnings growth of 82% YoY and cloud backlog of $462 billion argue analysts are anchored to a pre-Gemini earnings power that no longer applies.

The Path to $700 Per Share Reaching $700 from today’s price of $364.90 would require a gain of 91.8%. Spread over four years, that is roughly 17.7% annualized, aggressive but not unprecedented for a compounder posting 20%+ revenue growth.

Now the multiple math. With forward EPS of $15.47, a price of $700 implies a forward P/E of 45x. Our base case of $605.69 already implies 28x, so $700 requires an additional 17x of multiple expansion on today’s EPS base. That only works if EPS itself keeps compounding. It might.

Google Cloud grew 63% in Q1 with backlog nearly doubling sequentially, Gemini API is now processing more than 16 billion tokens per minute, and paid subscriptions crossed 350 million. Pichai calls Alphabet “the only provider in the market that offers this full vertical stack”.

Where Alphabet Trades Today vs Its Earnings Power At $364.90 against forward EPS of $15.47, the stock trades at roughly 24x forward earnings, hardly demanding for a business growing revenue 22% and operating income 30%.

Shares sit between the 52-week low of $173.38 and high of $404.23. Over the past decade the stock has returned 943.42%. That kind of compounding can extend on continued execution in cloud, search, and Gemini monetization.

Is $700 Realistic? Here’s My Take $700 by 2030 requires a 91.8% gain, which comes down to two things: Google Cloud continuing its explosive trajectory and search ad revenue defending margins as AI Mode scales. A third helpful item is agentic commerce actually monetizing through the Universal Commerce Protocol.

What derails it is a CapEx cycle where 2027 spend outruns cash generation for too long. My verdict: a stretch, but a credible one. Returns at this level shouldn’t be expected every year, but we’ve outlined the blueprint for how Alphabet could reach $700 in 2030.

Here's Why Amazon (AMZN) is a Strong Growth Stock

Taking full advantage of the stock market and investing with confidence are common goals for new and old investors, and Zacks Premium offers many different ways to do both.

Featuring daily updates of the Zacks Rank and Zacks Industry Rank, full access to the Zacks #1 Rank List, Equity Research reports, and Premium stock screens, the research service can help you become a smarter, more self-assured investor.

Zacks Premium also includes the Zacks Style Scores.

What are the Zacks Style Scores? The Zacks Style Scores is a unique set of guidelines that rates stocks based on three popular investing types, and were developed as complementary indicators for the Zacks Rank. This combination helps investors choose securities with the highest chances of beating the market over the next 30 days.

Each stock is given an alphabetic rating of A, B, C, D or F based on their value, growth, and momentum qualities. With this system, an A is better than a B, a B is better than a C, and so on, meaning the better the score, the better chance the stock will outperform.

The Style Scores are broken down into four categories:

Value ScoreFinding good stocks at good prices, and discovering which companies are trading under their true value, are what value investors like to focus on. So, the Value Style Score takes into account ratios like P/E, PEG, Price/Sales, Price/Cash Flow, and a host of other multiples to highlight the most attractive and discounted stocks.

Growth ScoreGrowth investors are more concerned with a stock's future prospects, and the overall financial health and strength of a company. Thus, the Growth Style Score analyzes characteristics like projected and historic earnings, sales, and cash flow to find stocks that will see sustainable growth over time.

Momentum ScoreMomentum traders and investors live by the saying "the trend is your friend." This investing style is all about taking advantage of upward or downward trends in a stock's price or earnings outlook. Employing factors like one-week price change and the monthly percentage change in earnings estimates, the Momentum Style Score can indicate favorable times to build a position in high-momentum stocks.

VGM ScoreWhat if you like to use all three types of investing? The VGM Score is a combination of all Style Scores, making it one of the most comprehensive indicators to use with the Zacks Rank. It rates each stock on their combined weighted styles, which helps narrow down the companies with the most attractive value, best growth forecast, and most promising momentum.

How Style Scores Work with the Zacks Rank A proprietary stock-rating model, the Zacks Rank utilizes the power of earnings estimate revisions, or changes to a company's earnings outlook, to help investors create a successful portfolio.

#1 (Strong Buy) stocks have produced an unmatched +23.94% average annual return since 1988, which is more than double the S&P 500's performance over the same time frame. However, the Zacks Rank examines a ton of stocks, and there can be more than 200 companies with a Strong Buy rank, and another 600 with a #2 (Buy) rank, on any given day.

This totals more than 800 top-rated stocks, and it can be overwhelming to try and pick the best stocks for you and your portfolio.

That's where the Style Scores come in.

To have the best chance of big returns, you'll want to always consider stocks with a Zacks Rank #1 or #2 that also have Style Scores of A or B, which will give you the highest probability of success. If you're looking at stocks with a #3 (Hold) rank, it's important they have Scores of A or B as well to ensure as much upside potential as possible.

As mentioned above, the Scores are designed to work with the Zacks Rank, so any change to a company's earnings outlook should be a deciding factor when picking which stocks to buy.

A stock with a #4 (Sell) or #5 (Strong Sell) rating, for instance, even one with Scores of A and B, will still have a declining earnings forecast, and a greater chance its share price will fall too.

Thus, the more stocks you own with a #1 or #2 Rank and Scores of A or B, the better.

Stock to Watch: Amazon (AMZN - Free Report) Amazon.com is one of the largest e-commerce providers, with sprawling operations in North America, now spreading across the globe. Its online retail business revolves around the Prime program well-supported by the company's massive distribution network, which delivered at its fastest speeds ever for Prime members globally in 2025. Further, the Whole Foods Market acquisition helped Amazon establish a footprint in the physical grocery supermarket space. Amazon also enjoys a dominant position in the cloud-computing market, particularly in the Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) space, thanks to Amazon Web Services (AWS), which is one of its high-margin generating businesses. Amazon's custom AI chips — Trainium and Graviton — now have a combined annual revenue run rate of over $10 billion.

AMZN is a #2 (Buy) on the Zacks Rank, with a VGM Score of B.

Additionally, the company could be a top pick for growth investors. AMZN has a Growth Style Score of B, forecasting year-over-year earnings growth of 23.6% for the current fiscal year.

One analyst revised their earnings estimate higher in the last 60 days for fiscal 2026, while the Zacks Consensus Estimate has increased $0.02 to $8.86 per share. AMZN also boasts an average earnings surprise of +11.4%.

With a solid Zacks Rank and top-tier Growth and VGM Style Scores, AMZN should be on investors' short list.

Amazon's Valuation Looks Attractive Ahead of Earnings: Analyst
AMZN Amazon
FMP Stock News
Original source text
The firm said it expects Amazon to report second-quarter results during the week of July 27, with broad-based strength led by accelerating growth in Amazon Web Services (AWS).

AWS Growth And Earnings ExpectationsBNP Paribas analyst Nick Jones expects investors to focus on four key areas: AWS growth and capital spending trends amid data center component inflation, the impact of Prime Day on retail sales, advertising growth and operating income margins as the company continues investing heavily in AI infrastructure.

The brokerage expects AWS revenue growth of 33% to 35% in the second quarter, above the consensus estimate of about 31%. It also projects operating income of about $25 billion, compared with the Street consensus of $23.6 billion.

Third-Quarter Outlook And AI SpendingFor the third quarter, BNP Paribas believes investors are looking for Amazon to guide toward the high end of its outlook, with revenue of about $207 billion and operating income of $26 billion. Those figures are above current consensus estimates of $204 billion and $25 billion, respectively.

The firm added that investors are also likely to expect higher full-year 2026 capital expenditure guidance as rising data center component costs increase AI infrastructure spending.

Retail Trends And Financial EstimatesBNP Paribas said data indicate Amazon’s Online Stores and Third-Party Seller Services businesses remain broadly in line with Wall Street expectations, implying about 14% year-over-year revenue growth. The firm left its financial estimates unchanged ahead of the earnings release.

Valuation And Analyst ViewDespite ongoing concerns about the return on investment from data center spending, BNP Paribas said it expects continued AWS acceleration and solid execution across Amazon’s businesses.

The firm also said the stock’s current valuation remains an attractive entry point, with shares trading broadly in line with their six-month average forward enterprise value-to-EBITDA multiple.

Earnings And Analyst OutlookAmazon is expected to report second-quarter earnings on or around July 30.

Wall Street expects earnings of $1.82 per share, up from $1.68 a year earlier. Revenue is projected to increase to $196.02 billion from $167.70 billion.

The stock carries a consensus Buy rating with an average analyst price forecast of $320.55. Recent analyst actions include:

TD Cowen: Maintained Buy and lowered its price forecast to $340 on July 8. Wells Fargo: Maintained Overweight and raised its price forecast to $313 on July 2. Truist Securities: Maintained Buy and raised its price forecast to $320 on May 29. Amazon Technical AnalysisAmazon traded about 0.6% above its 20-day simple moving average of $239.53.

However, the stock remained about 5.2% below its 50-day simple moving average of $254.20. That suggests the intermediate-term recovery has yet to gain momentum.

The relative strength index (RSI) stood at 46.61, indicating neutral momentum. The reading suggests sellers still hold a slight advantage, although the stock is not yet in oversold territory.

The longer-term trend remains constructive. Amazon continues to trade above its 200-day simple moving average of $233.21. The 50-day moving average also remains above the 200-day moving average following a golden cross formed in May.

Traders are watching resistance near $249.50, close to the 50-day moving average. Initial support sits around $225, where buyers previously stepped in.

AMZN Stock Price Activity: Amazon.com shares were down 0.99% at $241.20 at the time of publication on Thursday, according to Benzinga Pro data.

Amazon Hasn't Repurchased a Single Share in 4 Years. That's Exactly Why You Should
AMZN Amazon
FMP Stock News
Original source text
For much of the past decade, Wall Street rewarded companies that funneled excess cash into stock buybacks. That playbook is changing. The world’s largest technology companies are now directing hundreds of billions of dollars toward artificial intelligence infrastructure instead of repurchasing shares.

At first glance, that has disappointed investors looking for immediate capital returns. Yet the shift reflects something far more important: management teams believe the return on AI investment exceeds the return on buying back their own stock. Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN | AMZN Price Prediction) may be one of the clearest examples of why patient investors should pay attention.

Amazon Is Buying Chips Instead of Its Own Stock A recent BofA Global Research report comparing hyperscalers and semiconductor companies on a 12-month forward free cash flow basis illustrates the market’s current divide. Hyperscalers have seen free cash flow pressured as capital expenditures surge, while semiconductor companies are enjoying expanding cash generation as demand for AI chips continues climbing.

The relationship is straightforward. The largest technology companies have largely stopped buying their own shares because they’re buying AI hardware instead.

Amazon hasn’t repurchased any of its stock since the second quarter of 2022. Instead, the company has poured capital into expanding Amazon Web Services (AWS), building AI data centers, developing its Trainium and Inferentia AI chips, and expanding the infrastructure needed to support generative AI.

That spending isn’t unique to Amazon. Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG), Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), and Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) are all committing record sums to AI infrastructure. The immediate winners have been semiconductor companies supplying the chips powering that buildout.

Ironically, that’s exactly why chipmakers have outperformed.

Amazon is ditching short-term payouts to fund a massive AI infrastructure play—and its valuation hasn't been this low in a decade. © 24/7 Wall St. The Investment Payoff Is Still Ahead Some investors have started asking why they should own Amazon if management isn’t even buying back its own stock. But investors should flip that argument around.

Management isn’t avoiding buybacks because it lacks confidence. It’s skipping buybacks because executives believe investing billions into AI infrastructure today will generate higher returns tomorrow.

Those investments won’t remain expenses forever. They become revenue-producing assets through AWS cloud services, AI model hosting, custom silicon sales, enterprise software, advertising improvements, and retail automation.

Act now: the analyst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just named his top 10 AI stocks — and Amazon didn't make the cut. Grab the names FREE today.

Amazon also has multiple growth engines working simultaneously:

Growth Driver Opportunity AWS Enterprise cloud and AI workloads continue expanding Custom AI Chips Trainium and Inferentia reduce customer costs while competing with third-party accelerators Retail AI improves fulfillment efficiency and customer recommendations Advertising Higher-margin business continues growing across Amazon’s ecosystem Space Project Kuiper adds another long-term platform opportunity As those investments mature, free cash flow should begin catching up with today’s elevated capital spending.

The Valuation Looks Hard to Ignore This is where the numbers get compelling. Amazon currently trades around 29 times earnings, one of its lowest valuation multiples historically, as shares often trade for 50x or more. Despite rebounding roughly 23% from its trough earlier this year, the valuation remains historically depressed.

Even after the recovery, Amazon shares still trade roughly 14% below their 52-week high. Meanwhile, Wall Street analysts project 22% average annual earnings growth over the next five years.

Granted, heavy capital spending always carries execution risk. If AI demand cools or enterprise customers slow adoption, those returns could take longer to materialize. But Amazon has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to turn large infrastructure investments into highly profitable businesses, from AWS to its logistics network.

Key Takeaway In short, Amazon’s lack of buybacks shouldn’t be mistaken for a lack of confidence. It’s a deliberate capital allocation decision. The company believes every dollar invested in AI infrastructure today can earn more than a dollar spent shrinking the share count.

Semiconductor companies are benefiting first because they’re selling the picks and shovels. Amazon’s payoff should arrive later as those AI investments begin generating higher revenue, expanding margins, and stronger free cash flow.

For investors with a medium- to long-term time horizon, that creates an attractive setup. A company expected to grow earnings roughly 22% annually, trading near some of its lowest valuations ever, while building multiple new AI-driven businesses, doesn’t come along often. Ultimately, today’s muted valuation could prove to be one of the better entry points Amazon has offered in years.

Amazon Vs. Microsoft: What Amazon's $25 Billion Bond Tranche Says About Mag 7 Competition
MSFT Microsoft
FMP Stock News
Original source text
© jetcityimage / iStock Editorial via Getty Images

Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN | AMZN Price Prediction) and Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) both filed earnings on April 29, 2026, framing two different bets on the AI buildout. Amazon leans on custom silicon and, per a $25 billion multi-tranche bond sale, to fund infrastructure. Microsoft leans on its OpenAI stake and contracted backlog. Same tailwind, different balance sheets.

AWS Reaccelerates While Azure Sprints Ahead Amazon posted EPS of $2.78 against a $1.653 estimate on revenue of $181.52 billion, up 16.61%. AWS grew $37.59 billion in revenue, growing 28%, the fastest pace in fifteen quarters, at a 37.7% operating margin. Ads cleared $70 billion trailing, a real second engine.

Microsoft delivered EPS of $4.27 versus $4.09 expected on $82.89 billion in revenue, up 18.3%. Azure grew 40% (39% constant currency), and the AI business hit $37 billion annual run rate, up 123%. Commercial remaining performance obligations reached $627 billion, nearly doubling year-over-year, contracted demand years out.

Business Driver Amazon Microsoft Cloud growth AWS +28% Azure +40% Q1 CapEx $44.2B $30.88B Operating margin 11.2% 45.6% Custom Silicon Vs. Contracted Compute Andy Jassy said Amazon’s chips business is at $20 billion run rate with triple-digit growth, with total Trainium commitments reaching over $225 billion, including up to 5 GW from Anthropic and 2 GW from OpenAI starting in 2027. Jassy expects Trainium to save “tens of billions of dollars of CapEx each year”.

Microsoft’s leverage is contractual. Satya Nadella framed the quarter around delivering “cloud and AI infrastructure and solutions” for the agentic era. Microsoft leans heavily on NVIDIA silicon and its OpenAI partnership, enormously profitable but leaving less optionality on chips than Amazon has built.

The Capex Bill Is About To Get Louder Amazon’s TTM free cash flow collapsed 95% to $1.2 billion, and long-term debt jumped to $119.1 billion from $65.6 billion. Polymarket traders assign 87.5% probability that 2026 capex tops $200 billion, with a coin-flip on $220 billion or more. Microsoft’s CapEx surged 84.39% year-over-year, and management stayed quiet on numeric guidance. I want to see whether AWS margins hold as this cash deploys.

Why I’m Leaning Toward Amazon Right Now Since the reports, AMZN is down 6.49% and MSFT is down 8.19%. Neither has been rewarded. Amazon’s ability to tap institutional debt cheaply, pair it with a chip stack customers are pre-buying in gigawatts, and still show 29.6% operating income growth on core business tilts the read. Microsoft is a fantastic compounder at 45.6% operating margin, and if you want quality and dividend support, that case is intact. But if custom silicon is the real moat of this cycle, Amazon looks like the fortress trade. I would change my view if AWS margin slips below the mid-30s while capex keeps climbing.

Microsoft's carbon emissions climb 25% as tech giants grapple with AI's energy toll
MSFT Microsoft
FMP Stock News
Original source text
by Lisa Stiffler on Jul 9, 2026 at 9:00 amJuly 9, 2026 at 8:30 am

Inside a Microsoft data center. (Microsoft Photo) Microsoft has just four more years to reach its ambitious goal of removing more planet-warming carbon that it produces. But the company’s annual sustainability report, released Thursday, shows it’s moving in the opposite direction, as its 2025 emissions spiked 25% over the previous year.

Despite the troubling increase, Microsoft leaders say they remain committed to the longer-term goal.

“We continue to really be focused around carbon negativity by 2030,” said Melanie Nakagawa, chief sustainability officer, in an interview with GeekWire.

The Redmond, Wash.-based company is the latest tech giant to fall further behind its climate targets as they invest billions of dollars in new, energy-hungry data centers to power the AI boom. Amazon’s carbon footprint jumped 16% last year, while Google’s greenhouse gas emissions swelled 18%.

The report also shows how much energy use drove that increase: Microsoft’s emissions from purchased electricity — known as Scope 2 emissions — grew by 25% last year.

In total, Microsoft produced 34 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2025. After subtracting the carbon it paid to remove from the atmosphere, that figure drops to a net 20 million tons. That puts the company’s footprint roughly on par with the total emissions of Panama or Lithuania.

In addition to data center expansion, Nakagawa said, the carbon increase was also driven by Microsoft’s decision to stop buying unbundled, short-term renewable energy certificates, or RECs — a mechanism companies can use to quickly lower their reported emissions for a given year. Microsoft is instead prioritizing longer-term initiatives with bigger impact, she said.

The challenge Microsoft wants to answer, she said, is how to take a “portfolio approach” that spans carbon dioxide removal, carbon-free electricity, sustainable materials, and fuels — addressing all of them together rather than in isolation.

Image from Microsoft’s 2026 sustainability report. Where Microsoft made gains The annual report highlighted areas of success. That includes:

Matching its electricity consumption worldwide with clean energy sources. For the first time, replenishing more fresh water globally than it withdrew, making important progress on its 2030 goal of being water positive across operations. Achieving 92% reuse and recycling of decommissioned cloud servers and components for the second consecutive year. Reaching a total of 40 gigawatts of clean power purchase agreements across 26 countries, with 19 gigawatts currently online. (Forty gigawatts is roughly enough power to serve 30-40 million typical U.S. homes at once.) Scrutiny over recent moves Microsoft’s sustainability disclosures come after a series of announcements and news reports that have raised concerns among climate advocates.

Last month, Microsoft and Chevron announced an agreement to build a natural gas facility in Texas with a 2.67 gigawatt capacity, providing dedicated electricity to the tech company for 20 years. In May, Bloomberg reported that Microsoft was considering scaling down or scuttling a pledge to match its electricity use with carbon-free power around the clock by 2030. In April, the New York Times reported that Microsoft was pausing future purchases of carbon removal credits, after years as the market’s top buyer. Nakagawa said the company has not canceled any canceled removal projects, though she did not provide specifics about new purchases going forward. “We’re just continuing to take a hard look at each of the deals that are coming through,” she said, and looking for “credible opportunities to scale.”

Asked about Microsoft’s commitment to purchasing clean energy 24/7 — an approach that would eliminate reliance on coal- or gas-powered energy when wind and solar aren’t available — Nakagawa declined to confirm it. “We still are looking towards opportunities around carbon-free electricity,” while focusing on the 2030 carbon negative goals, she said.

As to the natural gas deal, the chief sustainability officer said Microsoft has also contracted to purchase 4.7 gigawatts of renewable power in Texas alone and that the company evaluates its energy investments as part of a broader mix.

Looking for efficiencies elsewhere Even as data centers remain the prime driver of Microsoft’s rising energy use and emissions, the company points to other steps aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of the facilities.

That includes increasing the use of lower-carbon steel and concrete and incorporating mass timber into data center buildings. And In the past year, Microsoft has added a seventh Circular Center — one of several facilities worldwide where the company recycles and reuses electronics from data center operations.

Microsoft is also working with developers to use AI models more efficiently and build right-sized products. AI agents can review, test and improve code so it uses less energy when it runs, Nakagawa said.

“I definitely think there’s an opportunity here,” she said.

AMD's $300 Billion Ambition Is Putting Pressure on Rivals
AMD AMD
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Six gigawatts. That is the total AMD Instinct GPU capacity AMD (NASDAQ:AMD | AMD Price Prediction) will deploy for Meta under a partnership disclosed alongside its most recent earnings, with the first 1-gigawatt tranche powered by a custom MI450-based GPU. For scale reference, one gigawatt is roughly the output of a large nuclear reactor. Meta is committing to power-plant-scale AMD silicon, and it is doing so on top of a separate 6-gigawatt OpenAI agreement already on the books.

The total investment in compute for AMD has been rumored to be around $300 billion, though we’ll see what ultimately gets invested over time. Indeed, that’s the big question mark right now in financial markets.

What It Means Hyperscalers do not sign gigawatt-scale accelerator agreements as hedges. They sign them when they intend to build. That reframes AMD from a challenger chasing NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) into a co-supplier for the largest AI infrastructure buildouts in the world.

The financial fingerprints are already on the tape. Q1 FY2026 Data Center revenue reached $5.775 billion, up 57% year over year, making it the largest and fastest-growing of AMD’s four segments. Total Q1 revenue landed at $10.253 billion, up 37.9% year over year, beating the $9.91 billion consensus by 3.41%. Non-GAAP EPS came in at $1.37 versus $1.29 expected, driven by non-GAAP gross margins which expanded to 55% (up 170 basis points year over year).

Cash generation is scaling with the mix shift. Q1 free cash flow hit $2.566 billion, up 252.96% year over year, on operating cash flow of $2.955 billion. Net income more than doubled to $1.383 billion, up 95.06%.

Market Reaction AMD shares closed at $517.82 on July 2, 2026, down 4.26% on the day. That single-session dip is noise inside a much larger move. AMD is up 141.79% year to date from $214.16 at the end of 2025, and up 273.82% over the past year. For context, over the same twelve months, NVIDIA is up 24.06%.

Act now: the analyst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just named his top 10 AI stocks — and AMD didn't make the cut. Grab the names FREE today.

Bull Case The AMD bull case rests on a simple observation – the company’s customer roster now looks like NVIDIA’s. AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and Tencent are expanding 5th Gen EPYC-powered instances. Meta is the lead customer for 6th Gen EPYC (Venice and Verano). Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is standing up a 50,000-GPU AI supercluster using AMD Helios rack design in Q3 2026. Samsung is supplying HBM4 memory for the MI455X.

Guidance points to further acceleration. AMD guided Q2 FY2026 revenue to roughly $11.20 billion, implying about 46% year-over-year growth, with non-GAAP gross margin expanding to about 56%. On the Q1 call, CEO Lisa Su said, “Customer engagement around MI450 Series and Helios is strengthening, with leading customer forecasts exceeding our initial expectations and a growing pipeline of large-scale deployments providing us with increasing visibility into our growth trajectory.”

The pressure on rivals is visible in relative performance. Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) still carries a negative EPS of -$0.60 on a trailing basis, with quarterly earnings growth down 71.7% year over year. NVIDIA remains the incumbent, but AMD is winning nameplate capacity commitments rather than trial orders. Analyst posture reflects it: 41 buy or strong buy ratings against 10 holds and zero sells, with a consensus target of $508.31.

Bottom Line Six gigawatts from Meta and another six from OpenAI turn AMD’s AI narrative from optionality into contracted backlog. For long-term holders, the anchor to watch is Data Center revenue, which drove the Q1 beat and underpins Q2 guidance of about $11.20 billion in total revenue.

AMD’s valuation is stretched, with a forward P/E of 77 on a stock up 141.79% year to date leaves little room for execution slips. But, the shipments behind those gigawatts are what the next earnings report will need to prove. That is the number that decides whether the pressure on rivals turns into permanent market share.

NIKE Stock Outlook 2026 as Recovery Stays Uneven Across Markets
NKE Nike
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Key Takeaways NKE's recovery is uneven as running, training and North America improve, but Sportswear and China drag.NIKE Direct revenues fell 7% in Q4 fiscal 2026, with Digital down 12% and owned stores down 7%.Wholesale offers relief, rising 4% in Q4 fiscal 2026 and 6% for the year, led mainly by North America. NIKE, Inc. (NKE - Free Report) is trying to turn a narrower set of operating wins into a broader recovery. The problem is that the gains are still uneven.

Running, global football, training and North America are improving. Sportswear, Jordan Streetwear, NIKE Direct and Greater China continue to pressure demand, pricing and near-term visibility.

NKE Recovery Is Split by CategoryThe clearest progress is coming from performance categories. Running has delivered five consecutive quarters of double-digit growth and added roughly $1 billion over that span. Performance product grew mid-single digits in fiscal 2026, with positive retail sales comparisons across running, training and global football in the fourth quarter.

Management expects growth to expand beyond running into training, basketball and ACG in fiscal 2027. Still, Sportswear and Jordan Streetwear remain weak. Sell-through is challenged, discounting is elevated and future order books are being affected.

NIKE Direct Still Drags on GrowthNIKE Direct remains one of the biggest gaps in the recovery. In the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, NIKE Direct revenues fell 7% on a reported basis and 9% on a currency-neutral basis to $4.1 billion. NIKE Brand Digital declined 12%, while NIKE-owned stores were down 7%.

The weakness matters because Sportswear and Jordan Streetwear together represent about half of NIKE’s revenues. NIKE is reducing promotions, repositioning digital as a premium business and working to elevate 50% of its owned-store fleet by the end of fiscal 2027. That reset can help brand health, but it also slows the pace of revenue improvement.

NKE Wholesale Rebound Offers Some ReliefWholesale is providing a partial offset. Fourth-quarter fiscal 2026 wholesale revenues rose 4% on a reported basis and 1% on a currency-neutral basis to $6.6 billion, driven mainly by North America. In fiscal 2026, wholesale revenues increased 6% on a reported basis and 4% on a currency-neutral basis.

NIKE is rebuilding partner relationships through curated assortments, better in-store presentation and sport-led storytelling. DICK’S Sporting Goods Inc.’s (DKS - Free Report) Foot Locker is an important marker in that process, as NIKE’s revenue growth and retail sales comparisons as the retailer turned positive for the first time in four years. adidas AG (ADDYY - Free Report) , a major athletic footwear and apparel peer, remains a useful comparison point for investors watching whether NIKE can regain product momentum while protecting brand premium.

NIKE China Reset Clouds Near-Term VisibilityGreater China remains a major overhang. Fourth-quarter revenues in the region fell 12% on a reported basis and 17% on a currency-neutral basis to $1.3 billion. NIKE Direct declined 14%, including a 25% drop in NIKE Digital and a 9% decrease in NIKE stores, while wholesale declined 19%.

In fiscal 2026, Greater China revenues declined 11% on a reported basis and 13% on a currency-neutral basis to $5.85 billion. NIKE has seen digital full-price realization improve and inventory decline by double digits, but management expects near-term revenue trends in the region to remain in line with recent performance.

NKE Signals Point to Ongoing CautionThe bottom line is that NIKE’s recovery has real operational green shoots, but not enough broad-based strength yet. Performance categories and wholesale are improving, while Sportswear, Jordan Streetwear, direct channels and China continue to weigh on the pace of a cleaner rebound.

NKE currently carries a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell). The stock also has a Value Score of D, Growth Score of F, Momentum Score of F and VGM Score of F. Style Scores are designed to complement the Zacks Rank, with stronger grades generally pointing to more favorable value, growth or momentum characteristics.

You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here.

For NIKE, those signals support a cautious stance. A weak Rank reflects pressure in earnings estimate trends, while weak Style Scores suggest limited support from valuation, growth and momentum factors. Until category strength spreads more widely across channels and geographies, the stock outlook remains tied to execution proof rather than early signs of improvement.

NIKE Trends to Watch as Sports Growth Fights Tariffs and China
NKE Nike
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Key Takeaways NKE's Sport Offense shifted 8,000 teammates into vertical sport teams to sharpen execution.Running has logged five straight quarters of double-digit growth, while lifestyle remains weak.NKE's margin path is clouded by tariff assumptions, lower markdowns and tighter inventory control. NIKE Inc. (NKE - Free Report) is trying to move past fiscal 2026 with a sport-led model and cleaner marketplace. The reset is not linear.

Performance categories, wholesale repair and North America are improving. Yet tariffs, NIKE Direct weakness and Greater China pressure keep the recovery incomplete.

NKE Sport Offense Is Reshaping ExecutionNIKE’s Sport Offense is central to its next phase. The structure moved about 8,000 teammates into vertical sport teams, creating smaller cross-functional groups focused on specific consumer communities.

The goal is faster decisions, sharper product work and more relevant storytelling across product, brand, marketplace and operations. NIKE is trying to rebuild growth through execution and sport authenticity rather than broad promotions.

Management expects core Win Now actions to sunset by the end of the calendar year. That would shift more emphasis to Sport Offense as the operating model guiding Nike, Jordan and Converse.

NKE Performance Demand Is Beating LifestyleThe clearest trend in NIKE’s portfolio is the split between performance and lifestyle. Running has delivered five consecutive quarters of double-digit growth and added roughly $1 billion over that period.

Performance product grew mid-single digits in fiscal 2026. In fourth-quarter fiscal 2026, running, training and global football posted positive year-over-year retail sales comparisons.

Sportswear and Jordan Streetwear remain the drag. Sell-through is still challenged, affecting discounting and future order books. Together, those businesses represent about half of NIKE’s revenue, which makes their recovery critical.

That split also shapes how investors may compare NIKE with adidas AG (ADDYY - Free Report) and Birkenstock Holding plc (BIRK - Free Report) . adidas remains a relevant global athletic competitor, while Birkenstock gives investors another footwear name to watch within the broader shoes and retail apparel space.

NKE Margin Path Depends on Tariff PressureNIKE’s fourth-quarter fiscal 2026 gross margin expanded 890 basis points to 49.2%. That headline number benefited from a 900-basis-point gain tied to the expected recovery of International Emergency Economic Powers Act tariffs. In fiscal 2026, gross margin expanded 20 basis points to 42.9%.

Excluding that benefit, gross margin would have been 40.2%, down 10 basis points year over year. That makes the margin trend more complicated than the reported figure alone suggests.

Management expects gross margin expansion to begin in the first quarter of fiscal 2027. Still, the outlook assumes incremental tariff rates of 10% through the end of July and 15% thereafter.

Reduced markdowns and better operating leverage also matter. NIKE is lowering digital off-price activity, tightening buys and managing inventory more closely, but tariff volatility remains a cost headwind.

NIKE Channel Mix Is Shifting AgainNIKE’s channel strategy is moving back toward a more balanced marketplace. Wholesale revenues grew 6% on a reported basis and 4% on a currency-neutral basis in fiscal 2026.

In fourth-quarter fiscal 2026, wholesale revenues rose 4% reported and 1% currency neutral, led by North America. Revenue growth and retail sales comparisons with Foot Locker turned positive for the first time in four years.

NIKE Direct remains under pressure. NIKE Direct revenues in fourth-quarter fiscal 2026 declined 7% reported and 9% currency neutral, including a 12% drop in NIKE Brand Digital and a 7% decline in owned stores.

The company is reducing promotions and trying to restore a premium experience across digital and physical retail. A healthier wholesale-direct mix could improve demand visibility, but only if Direct stops weakening.

NKE Scorecard Shows Trend Risks Remain HighNIKE’s emerging trends are meaningful, but the investment scorecard still points to caution. The company has visible progress in running, global football, training, wholesale execution and North America, yet the recovery is not broad enough.

Greater China remains in reset mode. Fiscal fourth-quarter revenues in the region declined 12% reported and 17% currency neutral, with NIKE Direct, digital and wholesale all lower.

NKE currently carries a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell). The stock also has a Value Score of D, Growth Score of F, Momentum Score of F and VGM Score of F.

You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here.

The Zacks Rank emphasizes earnings estimate revision trends, while the Style Scores help assess value, growth and momentum characteristics. This combination does not erase NIKE’s strategic progress, but it suggests the stock still lacks the near-term support investors typically seek before treating a turnaround as investable.

State Street vs. iShares: Which Global ETF Offers Better Value?
NVDA Nvidia
FMP Stock News
Original source text
The State Street SPDR Portfolio MSCI Global Stock Market ETF (SPGM +0.79%) offers broader geographic exposure and a lower expense ratio than the iShares MSCI World ETF (URTH +0.66%).

Both funds serve as core global equity holdings, but they define global differently. While URTH tracks developed markets, SPGM includes emerging markets and a wider range of market capitalizations, providing a more comprehensive slice of international stocks for a fraction of the cost.

Its largest positions among 2,933 holdings include Nvidia (NVDA 0.88%) at 3.99%, Apple (AAPL +0.49%) at 3.98%, and Microsoft (MSFT 0.96%) at 2.39%. The fund was launched in 2012. SPGM has paid $1.54 per share over the trailing 12 months, which on its recent ~$86.02 share price works out to a 1.8% yield.

The iShares fund focuses exclusively on developed economies, with a portfolio leaning into technology at 31%, financial services at 16%, and industrials at 11%. Top holdings among its 1,287 positions include Apple at 5.1%, Nvidia at 5.01%, and Microsoft at 3.03%. URTH was launched in 2012. The iShares ETF has paid $2.84 per share over the trailing 12 months, which on its recent ~$204.44 share price works out to a 1.4% yield.

What this means for investorsURTH and SPGM share several commonalities. Their five-year returns and max drawdowns are about the same. Both have low betas. Their top 10 holdings even include the same eight stocks among them! However, the iShares ETF has a higher expense ratio and lower dividend yield, which may be unattractive to some investors.

One significant difference between URTH and SPGM is their size. The iShares fund has over $8 billion in assets under management, while its counterpart has just under $2 billion. Accordingly, URTH has a much higher average trading volume, and the increased liquidity that accompanies that may be more attractive than SGPM's lower cost and higher dividend yield.

Is Nvidia Stock Too Cheap to Ignore Right Now?
NVDA Nvidia
FMP Stock News
Original source text
The artificial intelligence (AI) bellwether has had its bell rung lately. Is the ding a dinner bell for opportunistic investors? Nvidia (NVDA 0.88%) may have kicked off the AI revolution a couple of years ago, but the market has been rotating out of the global leader lately.

Nvidia stock has fallen 14% since hitting an all-time high in May. Despite inching higher through the first three trading days of this week, the shares are lower over the past month. It's a stunning contrast to the overall market, which is clawing toward fresh highs.

Rotation out of the leading AI chipmaker while business is still booming is surprising, but it's not without precedent. More importantly, it's not likely to be permanent. Bullish market sentiment turning its buy order attention to the next step of AI beneficiaries, including memory and data storage manufacturers, earlier this year, isn't outlandish, even if that segment has come under selling pressure in recent weeks.

You can go up and down the pick-and-shovel ecosystem in the near term. It just seems as if you can't ignore the lead horse over the long run.

Nvidia stock is facing plenty of challenges right now, but they seem small compared to the opportunity. Let's take a closer look at the company that continues to be the largest player by market cap, but one that is now the cheapest that it's been in years, according to one popular valuation metric.

Today's Change

(

%) $

-1.80

Current Price

$

202.32

You can buy Nvidia for just 16 times next year's earnings You read that subhead correctly. Nvidia is now trading for 23 times this fiscal year's earnings, but an even more jaw-dropping 16 times next year's analyst profit target. There are some potential headwinds out there, and I don't want to dismiss them.

China's DeepSeek is making waves again. Its latest DSpark inference module reportedly improves AI rendering speed by up to 85% without requiring new hardware. If you can do more with existing hardware, there is no need to upgrade to Nvidia's shiniest new chips. That's not something you just sweep under the rug, but do you remember when Nvidia tumbled in early 2025, when DeepSeek made headlines? Nvidia's growing client base needs reliability more than it craves the gamble of cutting corners.

Nvidia's revenue has accelerated for three consecutive quarters. The 85% top-line jump it posted in its fiscal first quarter is the strongest increase in a year and a half. The growth rate isn't sustainable, but it shows that the initial DeepSeek headlines didn't slow Nvidia's skyrocketing trajectory.

Bears can point to growing competition in AI chips and Chinese trade restrictions. Nvidia just had its first major debt offering in five years. Demand is outpacing the uptick in competitors and trade restrictions. Betting against Nvidia could be a mistake here, especially with Nvidia shares at their cheapest level in years.

It all adds up The chart is interesting. The purple line is Nvidia's stock, which has had a stellar run as a market leader, more than tripling over the past three years. The blue line is Nvidia's earnings multiple for the current fiscal year. You see it drop come late January, when the baton is passed to the next fiscal year, but notice how hype exceeded reality in 2024 (Nvidia's fiscal 2025) before normalizing a year later and outright reversing this year. The orange line -- looking out to bottom-line forecasts for the following fiscal year -- is understandably a year ahead of that swing in valuation momentum.

Saying that Nvidia is trading for just 16 times next year's Wall Street profit target means that it's cheaper than the S&P 500 itself. Should Nvidia really be trading at a discount to the market when it's growing considerably faster? Nvidia's growth will decelerate at this point, and margins may contract as rivals improve their hardware alternatives.

The problem -- and your opportunity -- is that this is the same bear case that has been debunked in recent quarters. Nvidia keeps getting stronger, and analyst profit estimates keep rising. In short, by the end of the next fiscal year, there's a fair chance that Nvidia stock's snapshot today was trading for a lot less than 16 times next year's earnings.

Ding? It's your move.

Nvidia, Alphabet May Have a 5-Year Problem — S&P 493 Margins Aren't Budging
NVDA Nvidia
FMP Stock News
Original source text
The AI trade has been built on a powerful assumption: AI won’t just supercharge Big Tech earnings — it will eventually lift profitability across the entire economy.

The problem, according to Apollo chief economist Torsten Slok, is that the second half of that equation isn’t showing up yet.

NVDA stock is moving. See the chart and price action here.  "So far there are no signs of profit margins rising outside the tech sector. This is ultimately what we are waiting for, because the value of AI companies today rests entirely on the promise that margins in the S&P 493 will eventually climb," Slok said.

S&P 493 Is the Real TestThe "S&P 493" — the index excluding the Magnificent Seven — is where the real test lies.

This gap is a valuation risk.

AI leaders are being priced as if broad-based productivity gains are imminent, with markets effectively pulling forward years of expected earnings growth. But if adoption cycles and ROI timelines stretch longer than expected, those assumptions could prove premature.

"This creates a dangerous divergence between aggressive, front-loaded valuations today and a much slower cash flow reality, since equity markets priced for instant earnings growth will face a painful repricing if the productivity hockey-stick takes five years rather than five months," Slok warned.

In other words, the market is betting on speed — and the economy may be moving at a different pace.

ROI Delays Are the RiskThe mismatch is critical. Enterprise AI adoption requires major upfront investment, workflow redesign and time before efficiency gains begin to show up in margins.

If those gains take years to materialize, rather than quarters, the current premium baked into AI-exposed names could come under pressure.

"The bottom line is that a mismatch between current earnings expectations and the actual time firms need to generate ROI on AI investments could have significant implications for many AI company valuations today," Slok said.

Investors know AI works for enterprise — they are asking about when it pays. And right now, the broader market is not confirming the timeline priced into high-flying AI stocks.

NVIDIA Was the Darling Of The AI Boom, Now It's Cheaper Than The King Of House Paint
NVDA Nvidia
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Two stocks, one question: should a retirement-focused investor own NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA | NVDA Price Prediction) or Sherwin-Williams (NYSE:SHW) right now? The setup is genuinely strange. NVIDIA, the company sitting at the center of the AI capital-spending supercycle, trades at a lower price-to-earnings multiple than the company that sells the paint on your neighbor’s siding. It is a genuine valuation quirk worth dissecting, because the answer for retirees requires looking beyond the headline P/E ratios.

Dimension 1: Valuation, Where the Paradox Lives On the numbers, NVIDIA is objectively cheaper. Shares trade at a trailing P/E of 30 and a forward P/E of 22, against TTM EPS of $6.53. Sherwin-Williams, by contrast, trades at a trailing P/E of 34 and a forward P/E of 30, on TTM EPS of $10.20. Both trailing and forward, the semiconductor giant is priced below the paint maker.

The compression came despite a rising share price. Shares are up 27.74% over the past year. The multiple compressed because earnings ran faster than the share price. Sherwin-Williams shares, meanwhile, are down 3.56% over the same year, and yet the multiple has not budged much because investors keep paying up for defensive earnings. Winner: NVDA. On pure valuation math, you are paying less per dollar of profit for the faster-growing business.

Dimension 2: Growth Trajectory The gap here is not close. NVIDIA posted quarterly earnings growth of roughly 214% year over year and revenue growth of roughly 85%, powered by Data Center revenue of $75.246 billion, up 92% YoY. CEO Jensen Huang described it as “the buildout of AI factories, the largest infrastructure expansion in human history.”

Sherwin-Williams grew quarterly earnings 7.5% and revenue 6.8%, and management guided full-year 2026 adjusted EPS to $11.50 to $11.90, a midpoint growth rate of 2.4%. CEO Heidi Petz has repeatedly described the environment as “softer-for-longer”. Winner: NVDA, decisively. This is triple-digit growth against low-single-digit growth. It is not a fair fight.

Don't wait: the analyst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just revealed his top 10 AI stocks. See the full list FREE now.

Dimension 3: Income and Stability Now the picture inverts. Sherwin-Williams yields 0.91% on a forward annualized dividend of $3.20, and it just extended a streak of 47 consecutive years of dividend increases. Its beta is 1.1, roughly in line with the market. NVIDIA, after raising its quarterly payout from $0.01 to $0.25, yields .50%, with a beta of 2.211, meaning shares tend to swing more than twice as violently as the index. (For income-first readers, our Paycheck Portfolio report on 10 Dividend Kings is a useful companion to this discussion.)

Sherwin-Williams also sells into thousands of small contractors and repaint jobs, a demand base that softens but rarely evaporates. NVIDIA’s fortunes are tied to a hyperscaler capex cycle and $119.0 billion in supply commitments that assume the buildout keeps compounding. Winner: SHW, decisively.

The Verdict For a retirement-focused investor, Sherwin-Williams probably still wins, but the race is tightening. The paint maker is more expensive per dollar of earnings for a reason: a 47-year dividend increase streak, a beta near the market, and end markets that muddle through recessions rather than crater. Analysts carry a price target of $378.90 on SHW versus a current quote of $330.57, and the income compounds whether AI capex accelerates or not.

NVIDIA is the better business and, remarkably, the cheaper stock on both trailing and forward earnings, with an analyst target of $301.62. But retirees draw income from dividends and from capital they cannot afford to see cut in half, rather than from earnings growth. A beta above 2 and a sub-1% yield disqualify NVIDIA as a core retirement holding, however cheap the multiple looks. Put NVIDIA in a growth sleeve. Put Sherwin-Williams in the anchor position.

Fiserv's Debit Network Talks Raise a Bigger Question for Visa and Mastercard
V Visa
FMP Stock News
Original source text
A consortium of Tier 1 U.S. lenders is exploring a $15 billion acquisition of the STAR debit network to bypass federal fee caps and circumvent legacy interchange fees. As traditional credit networks face compounding headwinds from capped merchant settlements and the adoption of decentralized payments, this potential regulatory arbitrage poses a severe structural threat to the payment processing duopoly.

The physical economy is undergoing a profound structural shift in how capital flows from consumers to merchants. For years, the payment processing space operated as an entrenched duopoly, extracting tolls on global transaction volume. Major financial institutions are signaling a refusal to continue paying those tolls. The proposed mega-bank consortium represents a calculated maneuver to internalize network revenues, threatening the margins of legacy payment processors while offering a lifeline to a distressed financial technology provider.

Get Fiserv alerts:

The Blueprint to Starve the MiddlemanUnderstanding the gravity of this potential acquisition requires looking at the Durbin Amendment. This key provision of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act strictly caps the interchange fees that banks with over $10 billion in assets can charge merchants for processing debit card transactions. A structural loophole exists for institutions that own and operate the underlying payment network.

By acquiring the STAR and Accel networks from Fiserv, Inc. NASDAQ: FISV, a consortium consisting of JPMorgan Chase & Co. NYSE: JPM, Bank of America Corporation NYSE: BAC, Wells Fargo & Company NYSE: WFC, and The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. NYSE: PNC could build a decentralized, vertically integrated payment rail.

Capital One Financial Corporation NYSE: COF successfully validated this blueprint during the $50.6 billion acquisition of Discover Financial Services. By owning the Pulse network, Capital One bypassed third-party routing fees.

The STAR network already routes transactions for more than 115 million cardholders across the United States. Shifting that transaction volume onto bank-owned infrastructure immediately increases lenders' operating margins by eliminating middlemen. Owning the rails transforms an expense into a revenue center.

Swapping a Debit Network for a $15B LifelineWhy is Fiserv entertaining the divestiture of a core infrastructure asset? The answer lies in deep valuation compression and severe operational friction at the executive level. Shares of Fiserv are navigating a brutal structural drawdown, having fallen approximately 70% from 2025 highs and about 25% year-to-date.

Fiserv changes hands at a distressed trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 8.58. For a mature technology provider generating consistent cash flow, a single-digit earnings multiple signals profound institutional skepticism regarding future growth.

Much of this skepticism stems from C-suite volatility. Fiserv is turning over executives at an alarming rate. President Dhivya Suryadevara resigned on July 7, invoking a severance clause less than a year into her tenure. This departure arrived just weeks after Takis Georgakopoulos stepped in as chief executive officer, replacing Mike Lyons, who abruptly departed for Truist Financial Corporation NYSE: TFC. Two leadership changes within 30 days indicate deep internal misalignment and pose significant operational risk.

Divesting the debit networks for an estimated $15 billion would provide Fiserv with an unprecedented liquidity injection. Monetizing these legacy rails allows the newly installed management team to refocus capital exclusively on high-growth assets, specifically the Clover point-of-sale ecosystem.

Clover is Fiserv's primary growth engine, competing directly with Block NYSE: XYZ and Toast NYSE: TOST in the highly lucrative merchant-acquiring space. Analyst models currently peg Fiserv's fair value near $78, representing roughly 54% upside from current trading levels near $51. A $15 billion cash infusion entirely offsets the operational risks of executive turnover, forcing the broader market to reprice Fiserv based on a fortified balance sheet rather than leadership uncertainty.

Death by 1000 Cuts for the Legacy DuopolyWhile Fiserv stands to gain transformative liquidity, Visa Inc. NYSE: V and Mastercard Incorporated NYSE: MA are facing a multi-front assault on fundamental business models.

In June 2026, Visa and Mastercard received preliminary approval for a historic $38 billion interchange settlement following years of antitrust litigation. The terms are brutal for long-term margin expansion. The settlement mandates a 10-basis-point cut to credit card swipe fees over five years and caps those rates at 1.25% for eight years. Merchant lobbying groups successfully weaponized antitrust sentiment to compress the exact fees that justify Visa's premium 31x trailing price-to-earnings multiple.

Beyond traditional regulatory friction, alternative routing technology is actively cannibalizing market share. The July 2026 launch of the Open USD consortium signals a rapid acceleration in institutional adoption of stablecoins. Blockchain-based transaction routing bypasses traditional card networks entirely, forcing legacy processors to operate in lower-margin infrastructure roles rather than serving as primary toll operators.

The combination of capped merchant fees, alternative stablecoin routing, and a $15 billion bank-led debit coup explains why Visa shares contracted more than 10% over the trailing four-week period. Mastercard is exhibiting sympathy weakness, declining steadily as broader structural routing concerns permeate the market.

Front-Running the Reorganization of Digital PlumbingWall Street is attempting to price in this structural shift via a classic pairs trade: going long the infrastructure provider and shorting the legacy processors. Digging into the underlying fundamentals and options data provides a clear picture of how institutional money is managing the risk.

Derivatives data reveal highly calculated institutional positioning. Options flow shows heavy open interest accumulating in $60 call contracts for Fiserv, signaling expectations of a completed asset sale. Aggressive hedging is underway alongside those bullish bets, as evidenced by a 266% surge in $55 put volume.

Markets recognize that a consortium-led acquisition of this magnitude will face intense antitrust scrutiny. Merchant advocacy groups will actively lobby the federal government to block any transaction that allows mega-banks to sidestep Durbin Amendment fee caps.

The payment sector is preparing for a defining volatility event as the physical economy reorganizes digital plumbing. Investors assessing exposure to financial technology and payment rails might add Visa to a watchlist ahead of the July 28 earnings report, which will provide the next definitive look into transaction volume stability and the true impact of ongoing margin compression.

Should You Buy Disney Before the End of July?
DIS Walt Disney
FMP Stock News
Original source text
The Walt Disney Company (DIS 0.34%) entered a new chapter back in March when Josh D'Amaro succeeded Bob Iger as the chief executive officer of the iconic entertainment company. D'Amaro is a longtime Disney executive, and Wall Street is largely bullish on him and the company's outlook.

But the stock has struggled mightily. In 2026 alone, Disney is down more than 14% as of this writing. The entertainment giant is eager to make a comeback, and Disney will report earnings in early August. So should you buy the stock beforehand?

There are reasons to be optimistic about the upcoming earnings report. D'Amaro comes from the theme park side and had quite a bit of success. In its latest quarter, the experiences division reported 7% year-over-year growth.

The company is also investing heavily in streaming and is approaching profitability there. Finally, the successful release of Toy Story 5 has given Disney a much-needed boost heading into the summer season. Overall, Disney expects adjusted earnings-per-share growth of 12% for fiscal 2026.

The D'Amaro era isn't without its challenges. Disney is facing intense scrutiny and regulatory pressure from the FCC. Raymond James even cut Disney's price target recently due to increased competition from Comcast's Universal theme parks.

There's plenty of optimism surrounding Disney that simply hasn't translated into positive momentum for the stock. That could change when earnings are released in August. Disney is focused on sparking growth, and with the stock at a reasonable price right now, buying before the end of July could be advantageous for long-term investors.

Moana's Record Rotten Tomatoes Score Should Give Disney Pause
DIS Walt Disney
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Moana

Disney

While many were skeptical of the idea of a Moana live-action remake just two years after Moana 2 was released, it is still rather stunning that the film is reviewing this badly.

Moana, with dozens of reviews now in, has amassed a 37% Rotten Tomatoes score, the worst in Disney live-action adaptation history. That’s lower than at least 12 other movies, including the worst ones like Maleficent, Dumbo and Alice in Wonderland. Criticisms include its flat visuals, underwhelming performances and the fact that it simply did not need to exist at all as nearly a 1:1 remake of the original film.

Disney may need to take a beat to figure out the plan for continuing with this concept. Perhaps that not every movie they’ve ever made needs an adaptation like this, particularly not the ones that have released so recently. There is a big difference between say, Lilo and Stitch, which released 24 years ago, and Moana, featuring characters who were last seen on screen in 2024.

The biggest question, of course, is box office. While many of these movies have performed very well, some have bombed. Here are the last ten movies and their global totals:

Lilo and Stitch - $1.03 billionSnow White - $205 millionMufasa: The Lion King - $722 millionThe Little Mermaid - $569 millionCruella - $233 millionMulan - $70 millionMaleficent: Mistress of Evil - $491 millionThe Lion King - $1.6 billionAladdin - $1.05 billionDumbo - $353 millionYou may say that Moana, given the love for the original, is destined to be a smash despite these scores and a $250 million budget, but that’s become questionable. The most recent projections are that it may earn $60 to $65 million its opening weekend, or even as low as $40 million, a figure deemed “catastrophic” by some. In contrast, the Lilo and Stitch megahit opening weekend grossed $146 million. Doing half or even a third of that, if that extended to the global box office total, would be disastrous.

Disney is already pressing forward with new adaptations, the nearest being a live-action Tangled out in 2027. In the works are Lilo and Stitch 2, Hercules, Maleficent 3, The Aristocats and Cruella 2. There are some rather obvious big omissions right now. That would include The Princess and the Frog, Pocahontas, Tarzan, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Big Hero 6, Encanto, Raya and the Last Dragon, Brave, Frozen 1 and 2 and smaller ones from there. Exactly zero of those sound exciting or necessary. There is absolutely no way that Disney will be able to resist Frozen, however, and I would predict $2 billion for that one.

MORE FOR YOU

We will see how Moana does, but if it’s an enormous bomb on that big a budget, Disney may want to slow down with these and really think hard about the plans to potentially do everything over time.

Here's Why Ford Motor Company (F) is a Strong Value Stock
F Ford Motor Company
FMP Stock News
Original source text
It doesn't matter your age or experience: taking full advantage of the stock market and investing with confidence are common goals for all investors. Luckily, Zacks Premium offers several different ways to do both.

The popular research service can help you become a smarter, more self-assured investor, giving you access to daily updates of the Zacks Rank and Zacks Industry Rank, the Zacks #1 Rank List, Equity Research reports, and Premium stock screens.

It also includes access to the Zacks Style Scores.

What are the Zacks Style Scores? Developed alongside the Zacks Rank, the Zacks Style Scores are a group of complementary indicators that help investors pick stocks with the best chances of beating the market over the next 30 days.

Value ScoreFor value investors, it's all about finding good stocks at good prices, and discovering which companies are trading under their true value before the broader market catches on. The Value Style Score utilizes ratios like P/E, PEG, Price/Sales, Price/Cash Flow, and a host of other multiples to help pick out the most attractive and discounted stocks.

Growth ScoreWhile good value is important, growth investors are more focused on a company's financial strength and health, and its future outlook. The Growth Style Score takes projected and historic earnings, sales, and cash flow into account to uncover stocks that will see long-term, sustainable growth.

Momentum ScoreMomentum trading is all about taking advantage of upward or downward trends in a stock's price or earnings outlook, and these investors live by the saying "the trend is your friend." The Momentum Style Score can pinpoint good times to build a position in a stock, using factors like one-week price change and the monthly percentage change in earnings estimates.

VGM ScoreIf you like to use all three kinds of investing, then the VGM Score is for you. It's a combination of all Style Scores, and is an important indicator to use with the Zacks Rank. The VGM Score rates each stock on their shared weighted styles, narrowing down the companies with the most attractive value, best growth forecast, and most promising momentum.

How Style Scores Work with the Zacks Rank The Zacks Rank, which is a proprietary stock-rating model, employs earnings estimate revisions, or changes to a company's earnings expectations, to make building a winning portfolio easier.

With more than 800 top-rated stocks to choose from, it can certainly feel overwhelming to pick the ones that are right for you and your investing journey.

That's where the Style Scores come in.

You want to make sure you're buying stocks with the highest likelihood of success, and to do that, you'll need to pick stocks with a Zacks Rank #1 or #2 that also have Style Scores of A or B. If you like a stock that only has a #3 (Hold) rank, it should also have Scores of A or B to guarantee as much upside potential as possible.

The direction of a stock's earnings estimate revisions should always be a key factor when choosing which stocks to buy, since the Scores were created to work together with the Zacks Rank.

Stock to Watch: Ford Motor Company (F - Free Report) Dearborn, MI-based Ford is one of the leading automakers in the world. It manufactures, markets and services cars, trucks, sport utility vehicles, electrified vehicles and Lincoln luxury vehicles.

F is a #1 (Strong Buy) on the Zacks Rank, with a VGM Score of A.

It also boasts a Value Style Score of A thanks to attractive valuation metrics like a forward P/E ratio of 8.24; value investors should take notice.

Two analysts revised their earnings estimate higher in the last 60 days for fiscal 2026, while the Zacks Consensus Estimate has increased $0.04 to $1.64 per share. F also boasts an average earnings surprise of +58.4%.

With a solid Zacks Rank and top-tier Value and VGM Style Scores, F should be on investors' short list.
