BLOOMBERG: How AI, Crypto and DEI Drove Marc Andreessen to MAGA | CoinGecko News
|
Original source text
Marc Andreessen sounded angry. It was May 22, 2024, and he was venting to a table full of President Joe Biden’s officials in the West Wing office of Jeff Zients, then the White House chief of staff. The famed venture capitalist was in town with his longtime investing partner, Ben Horowitz, to discuss US tech policy, and the private lunch soon turned heated. Andreessen expressed his frustration about a slew of Biden administration initiatives and regulations, especially ones he believed were crippling the artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency industries. Near the end of the lunch, he also launched into a tirade against a Democratic proposal to hike taxes on the wealthiest 0.01% of American households. “The billionaire tax seemed to offend him more than anything we’d done on AI or even crypto,” says Bruce Reed, one of the handful of White House advisers who had joined the meeting.Andreessen’s free-market principles were no surprise, but it was odd that he acted as if those across the table were somehow his enemies. Zients, after all, had previously served with Andreessen on the board of Facebook. (Zients declined to comment.) Nevertheless, the officials were used to hearing business leaders advocate for their interests and mostly hoped to clear up the misconceptions Andreessen seemed to have about an executive order Biden had issued on AI safety. Tensions eventually eased, and the lunch ended cordially, according to people familiar with the discussion who asked not to be named discussing details of the private meeting. Andreessen had positive talks with different Biden advisers two days afterward. His visit was quickly forgotten amid the intensifying presidential race. Forgotten, at least, until Donald Trump won the election months later and Andreessen revealed in the aftermath the crazy reason why he had unexpectedly plowed millions of dollars into the Make America Great Again movement during the campaign. Andreessen, who voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and said back then that Trump’s immigration regime “makes me sick to my stomach,” explained on a podcast that he was compelled by “absolutely horrifying” discussions he once had with Biden officials. In his retelling, they divulged a top-secret plan for the federal government to take control of the AI industry and outlaw all startups and open-source software. “ ‘You guys think you can just start companies and write code and release code on the internet—those days are over,’ ” he remembered them warning in the meeting. Andreessen was so aghast that he felt it was in the best interest of his firm, Andreessen Horowitz, which is known as a16z, to publicly endorse Trump. “They’re going to kill us,” Andreessen recalled thinking on Ross Douthat’s podcast in January 2025. “We walked out and stood in the parking lot of the West Wing and took one look at each other, and we’re like, ‘Yep, we’re for Trump.’ ” (Horowitz later hedged his support when Kamala Harris replaced Biden in the race, and he made a significant personal donation to her campaign.) The incident became Silicon Valley lore, but at first the Biden-Harris camp couldn’t even figure out what meeting Andreessen was referring to, according to four people familiar with the situation. When they finally realized he was talking about the lunch in Zients’ office, those who attended were baffled: Andreessen is prone to hyperbole, but this neared complete fiction. “It is simply false that the Biden administration told Andreessen and Horowitz that the government would ban all AI startups,” says Ben Buchanan, then a special adviser to the president on AI, who attended the May 22 meeting. It also made little sense why Andreessen hadn’t asked about this astonishingly draconian plan at a meeting on May 24 with national security advisers including Anne Neuberger. (Neuberger, whom a16z has since hired, declined to comment.) As another top Biden official familiar with their visits told colleagues of Andreessen’s version of events: “Total bulls---.” Illustration: Derek Abella for Bloomberg Businessweek A representative for Andreessen, Horowitz and a16z’s government affairs chief, Collin McCune, who also attended the contentious meeting in DC, has said the firm stands by their recollections. (Horowitz and McCune didn’t respond to requests for comment for this article.) Whatever actually occurred at that lunch matters less than what’s happened since: a16z, known for Andreessen once proclaiming that “software is eating the world,” is now eating the political world. The dominant VC firm, which manages more than $100 billion in assets, has gone from Valley kingmaker to DC power broker. Through political action committees and funding tied to its co-founders and partners, the Andreessen Horowitz team has poured at least $116 million into federal politics since Trump’s reelection. They have contributed more to campaign efforts for the coming midterms than George Soros, Miriam Adelson or Charles Koch. A16z generally supports candidates whose views align with its priorities in AI and crypto. But since choosing Trump, Andreessen has contributed more in party-aligned donations than he did in the preceding three decades combined, with roughly 94% going to Republicans, including $6 million for the MAGA Inc. super PAC. This shift remains a subject of debate. In interviews, current and former a16z partners, firm-backed startup founders, fellow board members and VCs, political associates and old friends describe Andreessen as an undeniably brilliant industrialist, but also someone who is perpetually driven by grievances that don’t quite match reality. Most of these people asked not to be named, to avoid getting on the wrong side of one of the most influential people in Silicon Valley. For his part, Andreessen, who declined to comment for this article, has suggested his values have always leaned conservative because of his Midwestern roots. He’s spoken of ambitions to reverse a US decline caused in his view by anti-American sentiment, media elites and incompetent bureaucrats. (He was an early recruiter for Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency.) Private messages sent to a WhatsApp group, which were reported by the Washington Post, show Andreessen ripping immigration and diversity, equity and inclusion policies, which he said are harming native-born Americans, especially in the Trump voter base. He complained about progressive universities such as Stanford, describing them as political lobbying operations, and said the National Science Foundation (NSF) deserves “the bureaucratic death penalty,” apparently for funding research that allegedly led to online censorship of the right. “I was born in 1971 in Iowa and grew up in Wisconsin,” he wrote. “My people are furious and not going to take it anymore.” One illustrious a16z-funded founder, who hails Andreessen as likely the “highest IQ” investor on the planet, says it never made sense why he seemed to hold such resentment toward the very institutions that helped him achieve the American dream. “It’s like, dude, you’ve made billions of dollars,” this founder says. “How can you think the government is f---ed up and everything is wrong with America when it’s obviously worked better for you than it has for all but maybe a dozen people in human history?” These days, Andreessen, 55, splits his time between his California estates. In Malibu, he has a $34 million beach house that’s held in an LLC called Paradise Shack, but he prefers to do his extensive podcasting at a separate beach house down the road valued at $44.5 million. That’s when he’s not at his $177 million compound, also in Malibu, which has oceanfront guesthouses, caretaker quarters, a cinema and spa, or his Bay Area properties in Atherton. Aside from special events, such as Jeff Bezos’s 2025 wedding, Andreessen, his wife and their two children spend most of their time as a family at home, according to two people familiar with their living situation. When the family does venture out, they often bring their security guards. Andreessen came from humbler beginnings. He grew up on the piney edges of New Lisbon, Wisconsin, a small town about two hours from Milwaukee. His childhood home was a split-level about the footprint of one of his swimming pools today. It still sits on a shallow lake inlet and hasn’t changed much since the Reagan era. For years after escaping, Andreessen professed to hate talking about his youth there, and rarely did. The house where Andreessen grew up in rural Wisconsin. — Photographer: Caleb Alvarado for Bloomberg Businessweek For a renowned native son who’s lately been ascribing his moral reawakening to his proud Wisconsin heritage, it’s remarkable how few vestiges of him remain there. There’s no bronze plaque commemorating his role in the tech boom in New Lisbon’s tired downtown. Residents say he pretty much disappeared long before he was pictured on a throne barefoot on the cover of Time magazine in 1996. Neighbors on Cherokee Lane say they had no clue the creator of Netscape, which ushered in the internet age, originally learned to program next door. The only visible sign of Andreessen’s Midwestern past is hidden at the Beer Hunter, about 20 minutes away, in the village of Hustler. In the bar’s bathroom, above the urinal, is a nostalgic snapshot of a teenage Andreessen plucking his electric guitar with a wide grin and “Buddy frickin’ Holly hairdo,” as owner Kelly Deasy puts it. Deasy was good friends with Marc growing up in the 1980s. He fondly remembers jamming with him after school, summers occasionally swimming at the lake behind his house and playing Dungeons & Dragons together. Andreessen loved concocting detailed definitions for new D&D inventory items, including rings of power that allowed your character to shape-shift or command creatures with fewer than 13 points of intelligence. “Marc was always the dungeon master. He was great at telling stories,” Deasy says. A photo of Andreessen, bottom left, in the bathroom of a bar near his hometown owned by Kelly Deasy, a childhood friend — Photographer: Caleb Alvarado for Bloomberg Businessweek It’s still a mystery to many classmates why Andreessen, until very recently, expressed such acrimony toward his upbringing. It wasn’t unusual for kids there to dream of a less boring life, but Andreessen has said in interviews that Midwestern culture is “all wrong,” rife with “subsistence farmers” and “self-denying people who go through life never expecting to be happy.” He’s described having to chop wood one winter to heat the family home and suffering through public schools with meager resources and no advanced classes. His relationship with his parents, Patricia and Lowell, was apparently so fraught that he refuses to speak of them. “His childhood was so intensely bad he just won’t go there,” Horowitz once told the New Yorker. Dozens of longtime residents and family friends, however, describe New Lisbon as a normal slice of Middle America. Richard Hoile says Andreessen was the smartest kid in their class and was selected in fourth grade for a program to give gifted students early access to the high school’s new computer. He taught himself to code from a library book and persuaded his parents to buy him a computer from Radio Shack. Lowell, a sales manager for an agriculture company, even had a bulky dial-up device for booking seed orders remotely that Marc loved showing to his old buddies. “The first modem I ever saw,” says Andy Kurtz of the device. “He pulled out this briefcase and said, ‘This allows me to connect to computers anywhere in the world!’ ” A freshman Andreessen during New Lisbon High School’s televised quiz bowl in the 1985-1986 season. — Source: WKBT News 8 Now People close to the Andreessens say they were on the middle-class end of the blue-collar town and that Lowell and Pat were incredibly nice folks who supported Marc’s tech passions. Family friend Ken Southworth also notes that the town is so tiny that if there ever was trouble at home or “this or that SOB” mistreated Marc, word would’ve gotten out that could explain his puzzling animosity toward his parents and New Lisbon. “But there’s nothing—flat nothing,” Southworth insists. New Lisbon’s high school had two computer labs with Apple IIs and IBMs, as well as classes devoted to teaching spreadsheets, word processing and other software applications. They were rudimentary, but Andreessen, who was more advanced than the teachers, was pretty much given free rein. “Marc acts like he was treated so poorly. That’s bulls---!” says Kim Dvorak, who says she always sat behind Andreessen in school. Archived yearbooks and newspapers capture an ordinary community supporting the wunderkind. He was a top 10 student, a member of the math club and Model UN and quiz bowl team, class treasurer and a Youth Governor for a county judge. He won a $2,000 scholarship sponsored by Eastman Kodak Co. his senior year, and he was named a young scholar by the same NSF that he now says deserves the bureaucratic death penalty. He attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, which then ranked second only to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in engineering and was one of five institutions in the US chosen to host an NSF-funded supercomputer program. Andreessen worked at the school’s National Center for Supercomputing Applications in the early 1990s, where he helped create the groundbreaking Mosaic browser, which made the World Wide Web accessible to the masses. Soon, Andreessen was off to California for an $80,000 tech job. Then, with Silicon Graphics Inc. founder Jim Clark, he co-founded Mosaic Communications Corp., as if they were authorized to build the commercial edition of the university’s Mosaic program. He and Clark ransacked NCSA talent to release the Mosaic Netscape browser. (After a legal dispute with Andreessen’s alma mater, the startup dropped the Mosaic branding.) Images from a Businessweek photo shoot for the 1998 article “The Education of Marc Andreessen.” — Photographer: Alan Levenson Netscape, which retailed for $39 a copy, rapidly eclipsed the original Mosaic and went public a mere 10 months after its beta launch. The 24-year-old Andreessen was suddenly worth $50 million. His parents stopped hearing from him around that time. They said in newspaper interviews they were proud of their son and missed him, but they wouldn’t follow him to California. His younger brother, Jeff, told Businessweek in 1998 that their childhood was a happy one and he didn’t understand why Marc hadn’t spoken to him in four years. When reached recently by phone, Lowell, who still lives in the area, says he cannot continue the conversation and asks never to be called again. Deasy, the Beer Hunter owner, recalls sending Marc a congratulatory email after his early success, joking that “it wasn’t enough for him to take over New Lisbon. He also had to take over the world.” Andreessen never responded. In Dungeons & Dragons games, “Marc was always the dungeon master,” says Deasy. “He was great at telling stories.” — Photographer: Caleb Alvarado for Bloomberg Businessweek In many ways, Andreessen, an early mentor to Mark Zuckerberg, was the original hoodie-wearing tech bro. In the Netscape days, he wore baggy shorts, played Doom at the office, emailed through the night, and lived off SpaghettiOs and other junk food. (Netscape’s subsequently hired chief executive officer said the 6-foot-4 Andreessen ate burgers “like a horse, both in quantity and mannerisms.”) The company struggled to compete with Microsoft Corp.’s Internet Explorer, the web browser that came standard on Windows and later proved central to the US Department of Justice’s landmark antitrust case against the tech giant. AOL acquired Netscape for $4.2 billion in stock a year before the dot-com bubble burst. After that, Andreessen built several startups, joined the boards of eBay Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Co., and along with Horowitz, a Netscape product manager he had teamed with afterward, turned his attention to investing. In July 2009 they co-founded what became known as a16z (there are 16 letters between the A and Z bookending Andreessen Horowitz). He and Horowitz marketed a16z as the most founder-loyal VC firm in Menlo Park. Their stunning 2010s track record yielded stakes in Airbnb, Facebook, GitHub, Instacart, Instagram, Lyft, Slack Technologies and Twitter. Andreessen acted as a caricature of himself online, averaging more than 100 tweets a day, frequently about inane memes or provocative topics. But he exuded more gravitas in person. The firm’s Sand Hill Road office has a modernist aesthetic, and Andreessen enjoyed clinking glasses of Highland Park 18 scotch on Fridays with his partners and studied out-of-print tomes on niche subjects in business history. He has said he thinks of himself as a “Midwestern engineer tinkerer” counterbalancing the tech industry’s “acid-dropping” culture. This self-conception came from a 1983 Esquire magazine profile he deeply loved of Robert Noyce, the legendary co-founder of Fairchild Semiconductor and then Intel Corp. In the article, the author, Tom Wolfe, describes how Noyce ventured to California with his Iowa values “sewn into the lining of his coat” and became known as the “Mayor of Silicon Valley.” Andreessen treated the founders he backed like A-list Hollywood clients, and they insist he can be incredibly caring behind the scenes. Patrick Collison, CEO of fintech juggernaut Stripe Inc., remembers once falling seriously ill prior to a group dinner at Andreessen’s home and hurrying to Stanford Hospital. Collison texted his apologies for having to miss the dinner, and then was shocked when Andreessen showed up at his recovery room. “Marc didn’t just come by to give best wishes,” Collison says. “He spent three hours sitting with me in that little room.” Andreessen’s insights were invaluable on company boards. One colleague was surprised how “linear” Andreessen’s mind was in a corporate governance role, unlike the wackier role he played online. A different board director says Andreessen is “a joy” to serve with: a great listener and pattern-matcher who isn’t afraid to vigorously challenge others, usually with humor. “For those who don’t know him, he’s clearly intimidating,” this director says. “For those of us who know him, we’re always waiting in anticipation for him to inject his viewpoint.” A big appeal of a16z was that it offered expert resources for functions like marketing and sales, but political lobbying was not originally on the menu. Andreessen played the game himself and made no bones about switching allegiances when expedient. He donated $250,000 in support of Vice President Al Gore in 2000, and then threatened to drop support for John Kerry four years later after the senator sought to kill tax incentives for companies outsourcing jobs to China. After a gushing 1,500-word blog endorsement of Barack Obama in 2008, he threw his weight behind Mitt Romney in the next presidential election. By the 2016 presidential race, Andreessen was already questioning his political assumptions. He later told Joe Rogan and other podcasters that Trump’s victory set off a phase of introspection during which he concluded that he had become too assimilated to California and needed to get back to his Wisconsin values. But people close to him say his conversion wasn’t so immediate. Andreessen had actually expressed concern years earlier that Valley-driven social upheaval was likely inevitable, whether due to data privacy issues or growing monopoly power in the tech industry. His falling out with the media was underway before as well. He became notorious on Twitter for blocking anyone with whom he had the slightest disagreement and said he disliked the “nasty articles” about tech entrepreneurs in Gawker’s heyday. It’s not hard to see where he was coming from: Once, a magazine intern haplessly emailed a fact-checking request to a16z’s communications team asking for confirmation that Andreessen’s head was indeed shaped like an egg. He experienced WTF moments when friends were canceled, including one from his Netscape days who was essentially forced by activists to leave his new job as CEO of Mozilla Corp., the maker of the Firefox browser, over a years-old $1,000 donation in support of a ban on same-sex marriage in California. Yet Andreessen and his team were far from right-wing culture warriors during Trump’s first term. If anything, they remained relatively progressive. While Andreessen said at a tech conference in 2017 that Breitbart’s news coverage had a better read on Middle America than coastal elites did, he also agreed onstage with investor Reid Hoffman that it was vital to build bridges between the country’s factions. The next year, a16z introduced a Cultural Leadership Fund to increase Black representation in the tech industry, with Diddy and Will Smith as limited partners. Horowitz, a friend and champion of then-Senator Kamala Harris, continued advocating for DEI causes through her 2020 presidential primary campaign. A friend and former VC associate says any personal transformation for Andreessen around this period seemed more driven by business than politics, especially as the Securities and Exchange Commission ramped up pressure on the crypto industry, which a16z had invested in significantly. Scotch Fridays dried up as the firm ballooned from a few dozen employees to several hundred. This friend sensed Andreessen becoming more guarded as a16z’s stature grew and says the “real Marc” was only accessible to a dwindling circle of friends. “His public persona is a lot less human than his personal one,” the friend says. “But I think you get to see the ‘real Marc’ when he’s with his family. You’d be surprised. He’s just a regular guy.” Andreessen in 2015. — Photographer: Joe Pugliese/AUGUST Marc and his wife, Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen, stayed put at their Atherton compound during the Covid-19 pandemic. Their household staff normally numbers in the dozens, including personal assistants, chefs, housekeepers and nannies, according to three people familiar with the setup. But like everyone else, they found the ordeal excruciating. Laura was already fastidious about germs, and Andreessen would get pains in his neck from marathon Zoom calls at the dining table. He coped with walks around Stanford University’s deserted campus, where Laura’s surname adorns almost a dozen buildings and landmarks. (Her father, billionaire Silicon Valley real estate developer John Arrillaga, was one of Stanford’s largest benefactors and a hero of Marc’s.) It was a radicalizing time. He loathed what he saw as the government’s catastrophic unpreparedness and ineffective policies, not to mention that damn Stanford security guard who kept yelling at him from a distance to put his mask back on as he marched by outside. Andreessen, who complained about tech-platform censorship, began opening up in private group chats with like-minded colleagues in tech and politics. They fumed about what they saw as anti-police hysteria after George Floyd’s death and argued it was ludicrous that Democratic officials and public-health experts supported 2020’s Black Lives Matter protests in spite of their opposition to large public gatherings. One Republican participant says Andreessen would routinely get “activated” by some hot-button issue, engage in hours of text-debating through “long, long, long group chat essays” and then often delete everything when the conversation died. Not long after he and Laura bought their Malibu estate in the exclusive beach enclave of Paradise Cove—then the most expensive home purchase in California history—people close to him noticed a real change. Amid all the podcast talk of reembracing his Wisconsin values, he seemed to become more withdrawn from the outside world, one estranged tech colleague says. He and Laura, who was undergoing her own anti-DEI conversion, homeschooled their young son and even hired a mixed martial arts coach to teach him to fight in an octagon cage erected in one of their backyards. (Andreessen has since said publicly that such training is necessary in an increasingly violent America.) Andreessen’s grievances worsened throughout Biden’s term in office. He eventually started fulminating publicly about suppressed masculinity, waning patriotism and the “woke mind virus.” To some, the sentiments came across as opportunistic posturing as Biden’s approval ratings collapsed and SEC Chair Gary Gensler and Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan upset a16z partners with their aggressive crypto enforcement actions and merger-and-acquisition reviews. Richard Hanania, a right-wing political scientist who Andreessen asked in 2022 to put together a Signal chat of smart conservatives, noticed Andreessen’s views growing more extreme that year. He recalls the small group, which Tucker Carlson later joined, becoming an echo chamber of MAGA tribalism. It felt to him as if Andreessen’s principles were mostly driven by a reactive dislike of liberals, the media and really anyone challenging his tech efforts. “By 2023, Marc just had it with anyone who he didn’t see as sufficiently loyal to the Trump movement,” says Hanania, who soon left the Signal chat. (Andreessen has since blocked him on X.) Max Levchin, who co-founded PayPal Holdings Inc. and is now the CEO of a16z-backed Affirm Inc., has looked up to Andreessen ever since they crossed paths at the University of Illinois. Levchin has watched his tech friends shift to the right in recent years. He says that Andreessen distinguishes himself with his “moral backbone” on polarizing political issues. At the same time, Andreessen is “completely unafraid to take a 90- or 180-degree turn and say, ‘This is my new conviction,’” Levchin says. “At the most profound level possible, he’s willing to learn and be like, ‘Oh, I was wrong. Now I believe this is the truth, and everyone else can go f--- themselves.’” Illustration: Derek Abella for Bloomberg Businessweek In May 2023, a16z said it committed $500 million to its new focus on what it calls American Dynamism, which involves investments in homegrown companies in defense tech and other industries of strategic importance, such as Anduril Industries Inc. and SpaceX. Also in this portfolio is Flock Safety, which makes surveillance technology for police departments and commercial organizations. CEO Garrett Langley says no VCs wanted to get near Flock because of its third-rail mission, glossing over the fact that Y Combinator, Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund and five other institutional investors had backed the startup before a16z. “There was a realization that someone has to stand up and say the only way America is going to be a better place to live is via technology,” Langley says, praising Andreessen and Horowitz. “They’re willing to put their money where their mouth is.” Andreessen codified his ethos in his viral “Techno-Optimist Manifesto,” a lengthy October 2023 screed that heralded “technological supermen” as the engines of progress and cast central government planners as cloggers of this free-market machine. Andreessen, who has long lionized Gilded Age titans such as Andrew Carnegie and John Pierpont Morgan, wrote of the greatness of the “industrialists who came before us” and a yearning to make them proud. The manifesto cited Atlas Shrugged protagonist John Galt as one of its “patron saints” and railed against “enemies” of progress, especially “know-it-all” experts “indulging in abstract theories, luxury beliefs, social engineering, disconnected from the real world, delusional, unelected, and unaccountable—playing God with everyone else’s lives, with total insulation from the consequences.” Maybe not coincidentally, Andreessen published his manifesto a week before participating in a bipartisan Senate forum discussing how the US should govern AI. Also in attendance were some of the kinds of people Andreessen had labeled as enemies in his manifesto, setting up a potential confrontation. Andreessen recalled recently on X that Max Tegmark, an AI safety researcher at MIT, “pound[ed] the table” in front of the senators, “demanding open source AI software be made illegal.” Tegmark says that’s totally false. Five other attendees agree, saying the closed-door meeting was cordial and uneventful; Andreessen, they remember, didn’t say much at all. It seemed to reflect a decades-long pattern of tactical fabulism. Aside from being a replay of the disputed descriptions of the 2024 White House lunch, the episode echoed an event that helped spark the government’s monopoly case against Microsoft some 30 years ago. Andreessen, then at Netscape, sent his notes from a routine business meeting with Microsoft executives to the DOJ, claiming that Microsoft had explicitly threatened to annihilate his company if he didn’t cede control of the browser market. Microsoft execs who attended the meeting said they learned of these claims only years later and were bewildered, swearing that Andreessen’s recollections were nonsense. Perhaps because of its framing of technologists as surrounded by such threats, the Techno-Optimist Manifesto was a hit among people inspired by Andreessen’s refrain that it’s finally “time to build.” In private, though, some big-name technologists and VCs say they found the 5,000-word essay somewhat ridiculous. (Even Thiel called the piece “pure Silicon Valley gobbledygook propaganda,” according to a leaked recording from an off-the-record talk in San Francisco.) It clearly repackaged tenets of effective accelerationism, or “e/acc,” a trendy pro-tech philosophy that argues in favor of unfettered innovation and against AI doomerism. Four of the many a16z-backed startup founders interviewed for this story describe Andreessen’s manifesto as weirdly angry and oversimplistic. “Marc really does believe that all you have to do is build stuff and lives will improve, at the expense of nuance about how the real world operates and these things affect real people,” says one of these founders, noting that government intervention has hardly impeded tech leaders from accumulating trillions of dollars of wealth. “It’s not going to end well for this country if we keep going down this path.” Andreessen and Horowitz first met Trump in July 2024 for dinner at his New Jersey golf club. They hit it off, people familiar with their interactions say, and Vice President JD Vance further persuaded Andreessen to contribute to the Trump 2.0 movement. His Wisconsin backstory and bet on American Dynamism played well at donor summits. In August 2024, at House Speaker Mike Johnson’s private GOP retreat in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, one attendee says Andreessen impressed the crowd with a 40-minute fireside chat about a16z’s investments in military tech and AI breakthroughs. “He kept repeating that he only invests in companies that he firmly believes will help the country,” the attendee recalls. After Trump’s election win that November, Andreessen spent a lot of time at Mar-a-Lago helping with the transition. (He jokingly referred to his position there as “unpaid intern.”) This included vetting DOGE hires and candidates for jobs at other government agencies. A source close to Andreessen says he was one of the loudest voices urging Trump to pick conservative investor David Sacks, the PayPal-veteran-turned-All-In podcaster, as his czar on AI and crypto, key priorities for a16z. Trump also appointed Scott Kupor, a16z’s first employee and longtime managing partner, to the influential post of director of the Office of Personnel Management. Andreessen balked at joining the administration himself, in part because he didn’t want to divest from a16z, says a person familiar with his thinking. Not that this has curbed his influence: Andreessen has since been selected to serve in advisory roles with the Federal Reserve and the Department of Defense, while remaining on the boards of Coinbase Global Inc. and Meta Platforms Inc. (née Facebook) and delving deeper into startups that depend on Pentagon contracts. Three people close to the White House say Andreessen cultivated a tight relationship with Susie Wiles, Trump’s chief of staff, who occasionally relays his guidance to senior White House staffers. What’s stood out to observers is how Andreessen has managed to stay in the president’s good graces for so long, given Trump’s tendency to expel those he suspects are putting their interests before his. Where Musk has proved unpredictable on this front, Andreessen has gained a reputation as a rather shrewd diplomat willing to prove his loyalties. He was spotted cageside with Zuckerberg at the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s White House spectacular in June. During this year’s government deliberations over AI safety, he surprised some by encouraging Wiles to ease tensions with leaders from Anthropic PBC (the main rival of a16z-backed OpenAI), who Trump had branded “Leftwing nut jobs” on Truth Social. A person who’s closely observed Andreessen’s political interactions recalls how “utterly effusive” he was in talking with Trump officials, even thanking them at times for their service to the country. This treatment has led to tangible victories in crypto for a16z, whose funds in the space total almost $10 billion. Pressure from the SEC has largely disappeared under Trump, and Congress handed Andreessen a big win in July 2025 when it passed a friendly national framework for stablecoins. Equally important for a16z has been stamping out state laws on AI while advocating for lighter-touch federal oversight, a position Sacks has championed. For a state-level AI safety bill under consideration in New York, a16z lobbied to exempt “small” startups, which it defined as those with as much as $50 billion in annual AI revenue, a threshold that would have then excused virtually every company on the planet. When the law passed without the exemption, an a16z-allied super PAC poured millions of dollars into defeating Alex Bores, one of the bill’s authors, in his recent run for Congress. After Senate Democrats helped block a new pro-crypto bill, another affiliated PAC said it would invest $30 million to campaign against Ohio Senate candidate Sherrod Brown, a critic of the crypto industry. A former Trump official says it’s become clear that Andreessen’s favorite AI policy is no policy, particularly with the debates this fall about whether the federal government should impose a pause in the development of frontier AI models or introduce a system for evaluating safety threats. Beyond AI and crypto, Andreessen mostly seemed keen to play “demolition derby” with any institutions he believed had somehow wronged him, says the ex-official, who often couldn’t understand the origin of his grievances. “Marc’s two top principles are supporting builders in this Randian quest against bureaucracy, and revenge,” this person explains. “Ultimately Marc comes down more on the side of ‘F--- my enemies.’” Other critics worry that Andreessen is indulging in luxury beliefs, as his manifesto warned that his enemies tend to do, playing God with everyone else’s life while insulated from the consequences. The Andreessen family still spends much of its time in the bubble of their California compounds, according to people close to them. Andreessen’s old friends and neighbors in New Lisbon remain blown away by his accomplishments. They are hopeful that his renewed interest in his Wisconsin roots will bring some of his techno-optimist prosperity back to their hometown, especially as he’s talked more lately about wanting to help “farm boys” like himself achieve success in America. Yet in all the years since he left, town leaders, who have continuously tried contacting Andreessen to seek support for the rural community, say he’s never responded and that they’re not aware of him ever giving back to the area save an unpaid $25,000 reward he once offered for information on a teacher who went missing in 1987 and was later found dead. The local school and library where Andreessen first learned to program have been renovated, but his name is not on the list of donors. (Andreessen, who is on the advisory board for his wife’s nonprofit Institute on Generosity, griped recently that the government has made it illegal for rich people to build public libraries the way Carnegie once did.) One resident says the town is “stuck in the 1970s.” And unlike his Midwestern tinkerer idol, Robert Noyce, Andreessen hasn’t given anything back to his alma mater either. The original “Mayor of Silicon Valley” contributed significantly to the Iowa college that nurtured him, but Andreessen is still bitter about that decades-old legal spat with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, which forced him to drop the Mosaic name and assure the university he hadn’t copied any code for Netscape. In a statement, the current dean of UIUC’s college of engineering says Andreessen remains an inspiration to students, adding: “We regret that we didn’t do a better job of celebrating him and his entrepreneurship at that time.” If Andreessen’s June 2024 comments about the situation are any indication, he’s not ready to move forward. “To be totally honest, I’m still upset. Every subsequent administration, every subsequent new administration at the university has attempted to reach out and repair the bridge. I have not returned the calls,” Andreessen told Horowitz on their podcast. “I greatly value my grudges. They’re very important to me.” —With Sophie Alexander and Emily Birnbaum |

Trump’s ‘Super Intelligence’ Rebrand Has a Curious Slovenia Connection | CoinGecko News
|
Original source text
Donald Trump’s decision to rename Artificial Intelligence (AI) “Super Intelligence” across the US government might not be random. It could be an insider move tied to Slovenia, which could make the Trump family millions. At least, that is the explosive allegation surrounding a sudden boom in Slovenia’s .si domains. Slovenia signed an AI partnership with Washington on September 24. The country owns the .si web suffix and is Melania Trump’s birth country. According to the BBC, .si registrations exploded. New registrations jumped from fewer than 2,000 in August to roughly 44,000 in September. Did people close to Trump buy valuable .si domains before the announcement? There is no public evidence that they did. Who Bought .si Domains Before Trump Said “Super Intelligence”?Investor and policy consultant Adam Cochran claims the activity began much earlier. He says registrations started rising in June, while AI-related .si names began changing hands at high prices. “AI-related .si names started going for tens of thousands of dollars,” Cochran wrote. He claims around 12,000 AI- or MAGA-related domains were registered or changed hands before Trump pushed the rebrand. Trump floated “Super Intelligence” on Truth Social on September 19 and used the term at the UN on September 22. On September 29, he signed an executive order requiring federal agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” instead of AI. Cochran alleges people in Trump’s inner circle profited from that shift. Economist Roman Sheremeta called the episode an alleged “enrichment ploy.” Trump Family’s Controversial DealsThe Theory Has No NamesNo public record identifies the buyers or connects them to Trump, his family or his inner circle. Netcraft found a simpler explanation: speculation. A .si name costs about $11 a year, compared with roughly $180 for a minimum two-year .ai registration. More than half of the .si domains it detected at Dynadot between Trump’s September 19 post and UN speech were later listed for resale. Meanwhile, Slovenia’s US agreement covers AI, semiconductors, critical minerals and secure supply chains. It mentions no domains. For now, the domain boom is real. The alleged Trump connection remains unproven. Cochran says a future Congress should investigate who bought the domains before prices surged. |

Analysts: New agreement with Binance will boost USDC growth, but USDT’s liquidity advantage remains unshakable in the short term.Binance has invested $100 million in Circle’s stock and signed a five-year commercial agreement to further promote and integrate USDC on its platform. Analysts note that the partnership allows Binance to directly share in Circle’s growth gains, while providing USDC with key distribution channels spanning global transactions and emerging markets. Data shows that when Binance and Circle first collaborated in December 2024, the platform hosted 140 USDC-denominated spot trading pairs, a figure that has since risen to 329. Monthly USDC trading volume on Binance has climbed from the $20 billion–$40 billion range prior to the partnership to consistently exceeding $80 billion. Since 2026, Binance has processed $5 billion to $10 billion in daily USDC spot trading volume—roughly 10 to 20 times that of most other exchanges. USDC currently holds a market capitalization of around $74 billion, still trailing USDT’s approximately $140 billion. Martins Benkitis, co-founder of Gravity Team, said both parties have clear incentives to leverage Binance’s user base and infrastructure to expand USDC’s footprint, which will add more pressure to USDT’s standing in global transactions and emerging markets. However, distribution alone cannot quickly reshape the market landscape; USDT already boasts deep trading pairs, local liquidity, and long-established user habits. 14 minutes ago Analysis: As global debt continues to rise, Bitcoin benefits from the declining purchasing power of fiat currencies. According to Forbes, Bitcoin briefly neared $90,000 earlier this month. Meanwhile, global debt continues to climb, and "currency devaluation trades" focused on the declining purchasing power of fiat currencies have emerged as one of the factors driving up assets like Bitcoin and gold. Data from the Institute of International Finance (IIF) shows global debt rose by $10 trillion in the first half of this year, pushing the total above $365 trillion. U.S. debt has exceeded $40 trillion, with annual interest payments hitting $1.27 trillion—surpassing spending on defense and Medicaid, and trailing only Social Security expenditures. The IIF warns interest costs will rise further as benchmark rates increase. Nic Puckrin, founder and cross-asset analyst at The Coin Bureau, said the current environment favors "devaluation assets" such as Bitcoin and gold, which is part of the reason for Bitcoin’s recent rally. The larger major economies’ debt loads, the more likely they are to suppress real borrowing costs and let inflation erode debt’s real value, boosting the appeal of such trades. Analysts at The Kobeissi Letter point out the U.S. dollar’s purchasing power has fallen 23% since 2020; if assets have only risen 30% over the same period, investors are essentially breaking even when adjusted for real purchasing power. U.S. inflation has stayed above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target for 60 consecutive months. 14 minutes ago CZ: Does not oppose Hyperliquid, welcomes more DEXes to compete. Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) told the "When Shift Happens" podcast that he does not oppose Hyperliquid and welcomes more centralized and decentralized exchanges to pursue innovation, noting the crypto industry is far from saturated. Zhao estimated that roughly 5% to 15% of the global population holds some crypto asset, but when measured as a share of individual wealth, crypto penetration is less than 1%, meaning the sector remains in its early stages. CZ added that some Hyperliquid community members are attempting to build their own communities by criticizing centralized exchanges and Binance, but he views this as normal competition and has no objections to the project. He also noted that former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent mention of Hyperliquid is a positive development for the industry, with assets including HYPE, BNB, and Bitcoin all poised to benefit from the sector’s overall growth. Additionally, CZ pointed out that first movers do not always emerge as the biggest long-term winners, citing examples like Google, Facebook, and Binance—none of which were the first products in their respective fields, and later entrants often optimize on the foundation laid by pioneers. Despite holding large stakes in Binance and significant BNB holdings, centralized exchanges represent only a portion of his asset allocation; rather than focusing on expanding a single platform, he prioritizes driving the growth of the entire crypto industry. 14 minutes ago Bitget CEO: Formally Requests THORChain to Deny Services to Attacker Addresses Bitget CEO Gracy Chen posted that attacker addresses linked to the exchange’s security incident have been made public and are under ongoing tracking. Bitget is now formally requesting THORChain to deny services to these addresses. “Decentralization is a design principle, and it should not serve as a shield to facilitate the flow of known stolen funds,” Chen said. She added that the entire cryptocurrency industry is monitoring THORChain’s handling of the matter. 14 minutes ago A trader made over $320,000 in profits trading MASK within two days, with a return rate of 318%. Trump’s MAGA Inc. injects $5M into Texas Senate race for Paxton ads | CoinGecko News
|
Original source text
CryptoBriefingPresident Trump’s super PAC, MAGA Inc., has injected an additional $5 million into the Texas Senate race, as revealed by a recent Federal Election Commission filing. The funds are designated for Del Ray Media LLC, a Virginia-based political media company, to bolster TV and digital advertising efforts against the Democratic nominee. This financial boost comes as the race, an open-seat contest due to Senator John Cornyn’s retirement, remains tightly contested. Public polling indicates a narrow lead for Democrat James Talarico over Republican Ken Paxton, with the latter benefitting from this latest Republican-aligned financial commitment. Key Takeaways The recent $5 million contribution by MAGA Inc. appears to be a strategic move to enhance Republican Ken Paxton’s campaign visibility in the closely contested Texas Senate race. The market pricing for the race suggests an increased likelihood of a Republican victory, with odds moving from 52% to 59.5% YES over the past week. This additional funding is consistent with efforts to counteract Democratic candidate James Talarico’s slight lead in recent polls. What to Watch Markets will be closely reflecting the impact of this financial injection on campaign dynamics, particularly in terms of advertising reach and voter support shifts. The effectiveness of the media campaign funded by this contribution could indicate shifts in the race’s competitive landscape. Hunter Biden’s LAPTOP Meme Coin Sparks Rugpull Fears Over 30% Insider Allocation | CoinGecko News
|
Original source text
Former U.S. President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden’s new LAPTOP meme coin is already under scrutiny from the crypto community after reports came out that 30% of the tokens would be under insider control, per tokenomics. The launch has already raised rugpull worries prior to trading and crypto commentators are urging full wallet disclosures and independent audits. The token, though, is meant as a political statement not an investment product, Biden clarified.LAPTOP Meme Coin’s 30% Insider Allocation Sparks Rugpull Fears Tony Edward, the host of Thinking Crypto, was one of the first personalities to take a shot at the project. He stated that the token would not be considered an ‘ethical’ meme coin if it has not been transparent with its insider information. Edward wrote, “The only way to do an ‘ethical’ memecoin is for you to disclose all the insider wallets, how many coins they hold, and have a 3rd party institution provide audits.” He added, “Outside of these items it’s just another rugpull.” His remarks come on the heels of September 9 LAPTOP meme coin launch. Hunter, the only way to do an "ethical" memecoin is for you to disclose all the insider wallets, how many coins they hold, and have a 3rd party institution provide audits. Outside of these items its just another rugpull. — Tony Edward (Thinking Crypto Podcast) (@thinkingcrypto) September 9, 2026 The criticism stemmed from the announcement that 30% of the LAPTOP meme coin supply is set aside with a founder-controlled system. They are preprogrammed results, said Hunter Biden. The tokens will be burnt if any particular public events happen. Otherwise, the tokens will be donated to charity. Hunter Biden Defends LAPTOP As Critics Attack Project The token was introduced by Biden’s X post to make his laptop a tale that exists as a symbol of resilience, redemption, and recovery.” He also claimed that with the TRUMP meme coin, nearly one million wallets have collectively lost about $3.8 billion. According to data from crypto tools, the figure seems to be right. Biden emphasized he and his team are not going to provide price support to the LAPTOP meme coin. “You should not expect me or anyone else to make this token more valuable for you,” he wrote. Critics took the project down with a scoffing as author and conservative commentator Nick Sortor joined the fray. He posted, “Everyone should absolutely bookmark this post for when you rugpull this.” He also wrote, “Anyone buying this crackhead’s coin deserves to lose it all.” Everyone should absolutely bookmark this post for when you rugpull this and pretend you had no idea what was going on 🤣 Anyone buying this crackhead’s coin deserves to lose it all, which they will — Nick Sortor (@nicksortor) September 8, 2026 Biden responded directly to defend his LAPTOP meme coin project. He wrote, “You just have PTSD from Trump, Melania, Kanye, Lil Pump, and Andrew Tate’s memecoins. All MAGA btw.” Sortor then fired back with another post, joking, “Correct me if I’m wrong, but ‘Lil Pump’ was how your ex-girlfriend described you, right?” The exchange rapidly picked up momentum following the heating debate surrounding the LAPTOP meme coin. Meanwhile, to gain a political edge over U.S. President Donald Trump, Biden is targeting TRUMP meme coin holders. He revealed that 20% of LAPTOP coin supply will be airdropped to TRUMP holders. |

Hunter Biden Lays Out LAPTOP Airdrop Plan Before Base Debut | CoinGecko News
|
Original source text
Hunter Biden confirmed the launch of his LAPTOP meme coin and outlined how much of the supply goes to community wallets, including people who lost money on the Official Trump (TRUMP) token. The post is his detailed public account of the project. It landed on the day the token is scheduled to begin trading on Base. What Hunter Biden Is Promising LAPTOP BuyersBiden built his pitch around the machine he left at a Delaware repair shop, whose contents fed years of attacks on him. He described himself as seven years sober and cast the laptop as a symbol of recovery. In a post on X, he outlined the tokenomics, saying 20% of the coins will be airdropped to the community. This will also include people who lost money on the TRUMP project. Biden claimed nearly 1 million wallets lost roughly $3.8 billion on TRUMP. “You should not expect me or anyone else to make this token more valuable for you,” he said. Another 30% sits behind what Biden called a pre-programmed mechanism. The project states public conditions in advance. Tokens burn if those events happen, and go to charity if they do not. Reported conditions include a Democratic win in 2028, a fresh Bitcoin (BTC) record, and LAPTOP passing TRUMP by market cap. A further 50 million tokens go to charity regardless. Follow us on X to get the latest news as it happens Previously, economist Peter Schiff called the president’s tokens legal bribery, with most buyers sitting on losses. President Trump Pledges Up to $500,000,000 from Super PAC for Midterms | CoinGecko News
|
Original source text
President Trump is pledging to allocate up to $500 million from his super PAC to support Republican candidates in the November midterms. He delivered the comments while speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, reports CNBC. “I think I have like close to a billion dollars in the super PAC, and I’m allocating probably four or $500 million. We’re going to spend a lot of money because we don’t want to lose our country.” MAGA Inc. reported $403.45 million in cash on hand as of July 31st, according to its latest Federal Election Commission filing. The political action committee has been relatively restrained with its spending, shelling out roughly $21 million since the start of 2025, including about $1.7 million on independent expenditures. Despite that, the pro-Trump PAC holds more cash than any of the major party committees, according to the Associated Press. The group has started spending in key battleground states, including funding an event in Michigan this week featuring Vice President JD Vance. But with less than two months remaining before the election, MAGA Inc. has yet to come close to deploying the level of spending Trump outlined Friday. The hybrid PAC can make unlimited independent expenditures but cannot contribute directly to candidates. Trump said he would personally direct the spending toward winnable races and that some funds are expected to remain after November. “I’m going to spend whatever amount of money necessary to try and help us. This is my money that I control… I’m going to help a lot of the congressmen and senators that need help.” Generated Image: Midjourney |

MAGA Inc. allocates $10M for Texas races in 2026 election cycle | CoinGecko News
|
Original source text
Photo: Stephen Leonardi / PexelsMAGA Inc., a political action committee aligned with former President Donald Trump, has allocated $10 million for the upcoming general election in Texas. This marks the first major expenditure by the group in the 2026 election cycle, focusing on pivotal races including the U.S. Senate and gubernatorial contests. Recent polls indicate tight races, with the Senate contest between James Talarico and Ken Paxton showing a dead heat. The governor’s race is similarly competitive, with incumbent Greg Abbott holding a narrow lead over challenger Gina Hinojosa. The infusion of national Republican funds into Texas suggests a strategic effort to bolster GOP candidates in a state where elections are highly contested. Key Takeaways The $10 million expenditure by MAGA Inc. suggests strong support for Republican candidates in Texas. Current market pricing for the Texas Senate race shows a slight increase in support for a Republican victory, with odds moving to 50.5% YES. The competitive nature of both the Senate and governor’s races in Texas is underscored by the significant financial commitment from national Republican sources. What to Watch Observers will be closely monitoring the impact of MAGA Inc.’s financial involvement on the Texas campaigns. Future polling results and campaign activities, such as rallies and endorsements, will be key indicators of how these funds may influence voter sentiment. Additionally, developments in the Democratic strategy and any shifts in voter registration efforts could further affect the dynamics of these closely watched races. U.S. Department of Commerce: Meta Platforms (META.O) CEO Mark Zuckerberg will attend the tech-focused G20 meeting via video conference. 3 minutes ago The US-Canada trade war has fallen into a deadlock, and the Bank of Canada may hold interest rates steady for the seventh consecutive time. Against the backdrop of escalating US-Canada trade tensions and rising energy prices, markets widely expect the Bank of Canada (BoC) to hold its benchmark interest rate steady at 2.25% this Wednesday, marking the central bank’s seventh consecutive hold. The US has already imposed a 50% tariff on roughly $20 billion worth of Canadian goods, while Canada plans to levy retaliatory tariffs on certain US products starting September 8. Meanwhile, driven by rising oil prices, Canada’s overall inflation rate has climbed to 3%, hitting its highest level since 2023, leaving the BoC facing a stagflation dilemma: tariffs weighing on economic growth while energy costs fuel inflation. While Canada’s annualized second-quarter GDP growth rebounded to 3.3% and over 180,000 jobs were added between May and July, roughly two-thirds of surveyed economists have cut their corporate investment forecasts due to the trade war. Markets now widely anticipate that the BoC’s next rate hike may not come until the first half of 2027. 3 minutes ago Cooling expectations for gold's rally: Prediction markets put the probability of gold hitting $5,000 by year-end at just slightly above 50% After rising nearly 10% in August, international spot gold has pulled back sharply, with market expectations for further gains cooling significantly. Polymarket data shows the probability of gold hitting $5,000 per ounce by year-end is just over 50%, the chance of reaching $4,500 is almost certain, while the likelihood of hitting $6,000 has dropped to around 13%; the probability of a short-term return to $4,700 is less than one-third. Affected by the Federal Reserve’s hawkish signals, U.S. Treasury yields, and rising oil prices, spot gold fell more than 2% at one point Tuesday to around $4,350 per ounce, a notable pullback from its previous high of roughly $4,697. After Fed Chair Waller delivered hawkish signals at the Jackson Hole Annual Meeting, market bets on a September rate hike rose to about 66%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note climbed to approximately 4.78%. Meanwhile, Brent crude oil broke above $91 per barrel, further intensifying inflationary pressures. Still, gold’s long-term bullish narrative has not faded: concerns over fiscal deficits, expanding government debt, and the U.S. dollar’s purchasing power continue to underpin gold prices. Citi forecasts gold will rise to $5,000 over the next 6 to 12 months, and has raised its short-term target to $4,800. The market will now turn its focus to U.S. employment and inflation data to gauge whether gold bulls can regain momentum. 3 minutes ago The GLM Coding Plan is marking its first anniversary by giving all subscribers a reset card. Gemini Sends $10M In Bitcoin To Trump Super PAC | CoinGecko News
|
Original source text
Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, the co-founders of cryptocurrency exchange Gemini, have donated more than $10 million in Bitcoin ($BTC) to MAGA Inc., the Super PAC aligned with President Donald Trump. The contributions landed weeks after federal regulators moved to unwind a penalty the exchange had fought for years. Two Contributions, One Day According to MAGA Inc.'s July report to the Federal Election Commission, Gemini Trust Company sent two separate contributions of more than $5 million in Bitcoin on June 19, disclosed in a July FEC filing. The precise breakdown, confirmed by FEC records, shows Cameron's records total $5,006,604.47 and Tyler's total $5,011,860.44. After receiving the Bitcoin, the FEC filing shows that the committee sold the donated Bitcoin through Gemini. Under FEC rules, a political committee selling donated Bitcoin must name the exchange, though the buyer can remain anonymous and does not count as a contributor. Together, the contributions add up to a $10 million political commitment, one of the most significant crypto donations ever reported to the FEC. The contributions were made in Bitcoin, a relatively novel form of campaign finance that Super PACs are permitted to accept, and MAGA Inc. can deploy the funds for independent expenditures in support of President Donald Trump. The Regulatory Backdrop The donation was recorded about three weeks after the CFTC filed a joint motion with Gemini in federal court in an attempt to reverse a January 2025 settlement over the company allegedly making false or misleading statements. The CFTC took the rare step of attempting to reverse the $5 million settlement it reached with Gemini in January 2025. In its motion, the CFTC acknowledged the original complaint was largely based on a whistleblower's account "known to be lacking in credibility," calling the exchange a "fraud victim." CFTC Chair Michael Selig claimed at the time that the agency under former President Joe Biden "politically targeted" the Winklevosses through enforcement actions. Importantly, the donation came 23 days after the CFTC joined Gemini's effort to undo parts of its 2025 judgment, although the filing offers no evidence linking the two events, and the records provide no clear evidence that the donations caused or influenced the CFTC's action. The Winklevoss brothers have a long track record of supporting Trump politically. In addition to the recent MAGA Inc. contributions, the Winklevoss brothers each donated $1 million to Trump's 2024 election campaign and supported the then-candidate through social media posts. Following Trump taking office in January 2025, the twins attended the signing ceremony for the GENIUS Act stablecoin payments bill and contributed $21 million in Bitcoin to the Digital Freedom Fund PAC in an effort to support the administration's efforts related to crypto policy. Gemini has now emerged as one of the largest crypto-aligned political donors backing the current administration. Gemini sends $10M in Bitcoin to Trump PAC amid CFTC case review | CoinGecko News
|
Original source text
Gemini Trust Company sent more than $10 million in Bitcoin to MAGA Inc., a super political action committee that supports President Donald Trump. Summary Gemini sent two Bitcoin contributions totaling over $10 million to Trump-supporting super PAC MAGA Inc. The donations followed Gemini and CFTC’s joint request to vacate ongoing terms of their settlement. Gemini will not recover its $5 million penalty even if the court grants relief requested. A July Federal Election Commission filing lists two Bitcoin contributions made on June 19, with each valued at more than $5 million. The committee can use the funds for independent spending that supports Trump. The transfers came about three weeks after Gemini and the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission filed a joint motion in a New York federal court. The parties asked the judge to remove the continuing terms of a January 2025 consent order. Available records do not establish that the donation affected the CFTC’s decision, and neither side has publicly linked the events. FEC filing records two Bitcoin contributions MAGA Inc. disclosed the payments in its monthly report covering June. The filing identifies Gemini Trust Company as the contributor and records both payments on the same date. By June 30, the super PAC had reported more than $397 million in total receipts, according to reports citing the filing. The contributions extend the Winklevoss brothers’ political support for Trump and pro-crypto groups. Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss each gave $1 million in Bitcoin to Trump’s 2024 campaign. They later donated $21 million in Bitcoin to the Digital Freedom Fund, a PAC created to support the administration’s crypto policy goals. CFTC seeks relief from Gemini consent order The CFTC sued Gemini in June 2022. The agency alleged that the exchange made false or misleading statements while seeking approval for a Bitcoin futures product. Gemini settled the case in January 2025 without admitting or denying the findings. The consent order required a $5 million civil penalty and imposed a permanent injunction. On May 27, 2026, the CFTC joined Gemini’s request for relief from that judgment. The agency said a later review found that the complaint “should not have been filed” under its current enforcement standards. It cited questions about the evidence, a whistleblower’s credibility and staff conduct during the investigation. However, the motion does not seek repayment of the fine. The CFTC said both sides agreed that the $5 million “will not be returned to Gemini.” The requested relief covers the future-facing parts of the order, including the injunction. As crypto.news reported in May, the regulator said keeping those terms in force would not be equitable. No public ruling had appeared by July 24. Warren questions the agency’s independence Senator Elizabeth Warren challenged the reversal request in a June 5 letter to CFTC Chair Michael Selig. She tied the matter to concerns about staffing cuts, reduced enforcement and contacts between the regulator and crypto or prediction-market firms. Warren called the developments “concerning signs of a CFTC beholden to political pressures and interests of the wealthy insiders.” The letter states Warren’s position and does not prove that Gemini’s political giving shaped the agency’s action. The CFTC said its decision followed a review of the investigation, evidence, litigation tactics and current policy. It also said Gemini had been a fraud victim and that the earlier complaint relied heavily on an account lacking credibility. Warren renewed her scrutiny on July 22 by asking the Government Accountability Office to examine CFTC staffing cuts and their effect on enforcement. Her office said the workforce had fallen by about 25% since January 2025. The CFTC’s current website lists Selig as its only commissioner, although federal law provides for a five-member commission. Crypto election spending reaches new records The Gemini contribution arrived during a surge in crypto-linked political spending. As previously reported by crypto.news,Public Citizen estimated that crypto companies had contributed about $189 million during the 2026 U.S. election cycle by late June. The group said this represented about 37% of corporate political contributions tracked during the cycle. Several large crypto firms have funded PACs supporting candidates from both parties. Fairshake and related committees have received backing from Coinbase, Ripple and other companies. Meanwhile, MAGA Inc. has attracted money from Gemini and other technology or crypto businesses. Super PACs may accept unlimited corporate contributions for independent spending, but they cannot contribute directly to candidates or coordinate communications with them. The spending comes as Congress considers the CLARITY Act, which could give the CFTC a larger role in digital asset oversight. Lawmakers continue to debate the regulator’s staffing, authority and leadership structure before expanding its duties. The court has not publicly resolved the Gemini-CFTC motion. The Bitcoin transfer remains a separately disclosed political contribution. Gemini has already paid the $5 million penalty, and the agreement with the CFTC prevents its return even if the judge removes the order’s continuing restrictions. |

Gemini sends $10 million in Bitcoin to Trump super PAC as CFTC settlement faces review | CoinGecko News

Gemini Trust Company, a prominent cryptocurrency exchange co-founded by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, has contributed $10 million in Bitcoin to a super PAC backing US President Donald Trump, according to financial filings released this week.Major Bitcoin donation tied to CFTC case developmentsThe contribution was disclosed in MAGA Inc. Super PAC’s July report to the Federal Election Commission. The filing reveals that Gemini sent two separate Bitcoin donations, each exceeding $5 million, on June 19. MAGA Inc., a political action committee supporting Trump, can use the funds for independent expenditures during the 2024 presidential campaign. This significant donation was recorded just weeks after the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and Gemini jointly requested a federal court to consider reversing a $5 million settlement reached in January 2025. The case centers on allegations that Gemini provided false or misleading statements. Michael Selig, CFTC Chair and the agency’s only current commissioner, has asserted that previous enforcement actions against Gemini were politically motivated under former President Joe Biden’s administration, targeting the Winklevoss brothers. The CFTC, led by Selig, claimed that the Biden administration “politically targeted” the Winklevosses through enforcement, highlighting tensions surrounding regulatory action in the crypto sector. Beyond the $10 million donation, the Winklevoss twins previously contributed $1 million each to Trump’s 2024 campaign and have shown vocal support for his presidency on social media. After Trump’s return to office in January 2025, the brothers appeared at the signing ceremony for the GENIUS Act, a stablecoin payments bill, and backed his sons’ crypto mining venture, American Bitcoin. They have also contributed $21 million in Bitcoin to the Digital Freedom Fund PAC, aimed at advancing crypto-friendly policies. Ongoing court proceedings and political reactionsNo final decision has been made public regarding the joint CFTC-Gemini request, which was filed with the US District Court for the Southern District of New York in May. The CFTC stated in June that if the court grants reversal, the $5 million penalty will not be returned to Gemini. Senator Elizabeth Warren sent a letter to CFTC Chair Selig in June, raising concerns that the joint motion and recent actions suggest the agency may be influenced by political pressures and wealthy insiders, warning of risks to market integrity and investor protection. As of June 30, MAGA Inc. reported total receipts exceeding $397 million. RecipientAmountAssetDateMAGA Inc. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission is responsible for regulating US derivatives markets, including those related to digital assets. Lawmakers from both parties have urged President Trump to nominate additional commissioners to restore the commission’s normal composition, especially as Congress debates the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act. The pending bill would expand the CFTC’s authority over digital asset markets, establishing clearer rules and oversight mechanisms. As of the latest updates, the White House had not put forward new nominations for the CFTC, meaning Selig continues to manage the agency’s regulatory agenda. Winklevoss Twins Donated $10 Million From Bitcoin Sale to Trump Super PAC | CoinGecko News
|
Original source text
Crypto entrepreneurs Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss donated over $10 million after liquidating Bitcoin to American super PAC MAGA Inc., which supports President Donald Trump. A Tuesday filing shows each twin — the founders of the public crypto exchange, Gemini — donated over $5 million each. The donation comes about one month after the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission asked a judge to vacate the agency’s $5 million penalty against Gemini. The twins back in 2024 announced that they had donated 30.94 Bitcoin, valued at over $2 million at the time, to President Trump’s campaign, claiming it would “put an end to the Biden Administration’s war on crypto.” During the Biden Administration, regulators cracked down hard on crypto exchanges — including Gemini — but since President Trump took office, a number of lawsuits have been scrapped. MAGA Inc. has raised over $400 million in fresh cash ahead of November’s midterm elections. The Winklevoss twins are Bitcoin OGs The Winklevoss Twins — who claimed they played a part in the creation of Facebook — founded crypto exchange Gemini in 2014 after being early Bitcoin backers. Crypto industry observers have long speculated that the twins are two of the biggest Bitcoin holders in the space. The twins have long praised President Trump’s pro-Bitcoin and pro-business stance, claiming it’s crucial for the future of the crypto industry in the country. Tyler in particular emphasized the need for a political shift to prevent further harm to the industry and to restore an environment conducive to innovation and economic growth. “President Donald J. Trump is the pro-Bitcoin, pro-crypto, and pro-business choice,” he said back in 2024. “This is not even remotely open for debate. Anyone who tells you otherwise is severely misinformed, delusional, or not telling the truth.” Back in May, Gemini shares jumped over 20% in after-hours trading after the Winklevoss twins announced a $100 million Bitcoin-funded investment in the company alongside Q1 earnings showing 42% year-over-year revenue growth. The quarter’s results included a narrowed net loss of $109 million and a sharp rise in services and credit card revenue, though trading volumes had fallen from a year earlier following Bitcoin’s crash from its October peak. The rally followed months of turmoil for Gemini, including layoffs, executive departures, shareholder lawsuits, and a stock price that had dropped more than 89% from its IPO high, partly offset by a CFTC derivatives license granted in April. At the time, they stated that this move aimed to help end what they described as the Biden Administration’s “war on crypto.” Regulatory scrutiny increased during President Joe Biden’s term, with multiple agencies intensifying enforcement actions against cryptocurrency companies, including Gemini. However, after Trump took office, several lawsuits against these firms, reportedly including Gemini, were dropped. The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission recently requested a judge to vacate a $5 million penalty imposed on Gemini, further reflecting the shifting regulatory environment. The same quarter, Gemini reported a 42% increase in year-over-year revenue and managed to narrow its net loss to $109 million. Despite these positive developments, Gemini faced difficulties over the past year, including falling trading volumes as Bitcoin prices retreated from their October highs. The company also navigated internal challenges such as staffing reductions, executive departures, legal disputes among shareholders, and a share price decline exceeding 89% from the IPO peak. Some of these struggles were partially mitigated after Gemini obtained a CFTC derivatives license in April, allowing for expanded trading offerings amid an evolving US regulatory framework. THE INDEPENDENT: Rep. Anna Paulina Luna tipped off MAGA influencer on Trump's VP pick for Polymarket bet: report | CoinGecko News
|
Original source text
U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida allegedly tipped off a MAGA influencer in 2024 that Donald Trump would choose JD Vance as his running mate, teeing up a winning bet on Polymarket, the latest in a string of allegations of insider political betting sweeping Washington, D.C.Luna allegedly described knowing Trump would choose Vance during a summer 2024 lunch at Stovall House, a social club in Tampa, and said she had tipped off Rogan O’Handley, known online as DC Draino, teasing him for not putting more money behind the bet, The Wall Street Journal reported. The alleged tip inspired an investigation from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, according to the paper. The Independent has contacted Luna, O’Handley, Polymarket and the commission for comment. Both Luna and O’Handley strongly denied the allegations of being involved in an insider trade. Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, center, allegedly tipped off an influencer that Donald Trump would choose JD Vance as his vice president, allowing the influencer to place a winning bet on Polymarket. Luna and the influencer deny the allegations (Reuters)“l am honored the WSJ thinks I am telepathic but unfortunately I am not,” the Republican congresswoman told the paper, vowing to “continue to champion the fight against insider trading.” A spokesperson for the congresswoman told the Journal she initiated a criminal complaint with the commission alleging someone knowingly made a false report to the agency. “Any suggestion that I traded on confidential information or discussed doing so is inaccurate,” O’Handley told the Journal. He added that he was unaware of any federal investigation. News of the alleged Vance tip follows the White House’s announcement that one of President Donald Trump’s teleprompter operators was put on unpaid administrative leave after being accused of winning more than $100,000 from betting on the content of the president’s speeches. Gabriel Perez is currently complying with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed Thursday. The White House has reportedly warned staffers against using inside info to make political bets, after a series of unknown traders made hundreds of thousands of dollars guessing the timing of a ceasefire in the Iran war (Getty Images)Leavitt added that the president found the situation “deeply unfortunate and frankly a disgrace.”’ In March, the White House reportedly warned staffers against using nonpublic information to make political bets, after a trio of Polymarket accounts made more than $600,000 accurately predicting the timing of a ceasefire in the Iran war. Polymarket says it vigorously prosecutes any unusual and illegal activity on its platform, where betters can open accounts anonymously. Critics of online prediction markets such as Polymarket and Kalshi have long warned such forums could inspire corruption. The president’s son Donald Trump Jr. advises both Polymarket and Kalshi. His venture capital firm is also an investor in Polymarket. He is not accused of wrongdoing regard the above alleged trades. |

Trump’s ex-campaign chief leads Israel-backed digital push for MAGA support in Iran war | CoinGecko News
|
Original source text
Brad Parscale, former head of Donald Trump’s election campaign, has been reported to lead an Israel-funded digital influence operation aimed at gaining support from MAGA followers for the ongoing U.S.-Israel conflict with Iran. This operation, conducted through Parscale’s firm Clock Tower X LLC, seeks to shape public opinion in favor of the war by coordinating with MAGA influencers and leveraging digital platforms to embed pro-Israel narratives. The campaign’s efforts are part of a broader strategy to influence AI-generated content and integrate these narratives into conservative media channels.Advertisement Key Takeaways The report appears to suggest that digital campaigns are being used to influence U.S. public opinion on the Iran conflict in a manner supportive of ongoing military actions. Market pricing suggests a decrease in the likelihood of a US-Iran deal in 2026, with odds moving from 29% to 25.5% YES over recent days. The involvement of digital influence operations may indicate increased political maneuvering, impacting perceptions around the potential for diplomatic resolutions. What to Watch Observers should monitor any official responses from the U.S. and Iranian governments, which could further influence market dynamics. Key developments in the military conflict, such as new strikes or retaliatory actions, may provide additional indicators consistent with NO outcomes in related markets. Additionally, changes in public discourse or media coverage resulting from the digital campaign could indicate shifts in public sentiment, potentially impacting future negotiations. Trump’s aggressive Iran stance risks fracturing MAGA base, warns ex-lawyer | CoinGecko News
|
Original source text
Robert Barnes, former lawyer to Donald Trump, has stated that Trump is no longer engaging with Iran merely to achieve strategic objectives. Instead, Barnes suggests Trump is now focused on forcing Tehran into submission, a move he warns could potentially fracture the MAGA political base. This statement comes amid escalating tensions between the U.S. and Iran, following renewed U.S. military actions despite a ceasefire memorandum. Observers note that Trump’s stance may have significant implications for the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict and related diplomatic efforts. The current status of the U.S.-Iran relationship is tense, with recent U.S. strikes on Iranian cities indicating a possible return to full-scale conflict. Trump’s declaration that the ceasefire is “over” and threats to reinstate a naval blockade align with Barnes’s assertion of Trump’s aggressive posture. This development has influenced prediction markets, with observable shifts suggesting decreased confidence in the likelihood of a U.S.-Iran deal that includes reconstruction funding for Iran. Advertisement Markets have reacted to these developments, with the “US-Iran Deal in 2026” market indicating a decrease in the probability of such a deal including reconstruction funding. The likelihood of a deal containing key terms like uranium enrichment caps has also seen a decline, reflecting concerns over the potential for further military escalation and its impact on diplomatic negotiations. Key Takeaways Market pricing suggests a decreased likelihood of a U.S.-Iran deal including reconstruction funding in 2026, consistent with Barnes’s claims of an aggressive U.S. stance. Recent U.S. military actions and Trump’s threats to end the ceasefire appear to have contributed to market skepticism regarding successful diplomatic resolutions. The shift in market prices reflects concerns that Trump’s strategy may undermine ongoing negotiations and result in further conflict. What to Watch Observers will be closely monitoring any official statements from the White House or the Iranian government regarding the ceasefire status and potential diplomatic engagements. Developments such as renewed military actions or diplomatic breakthroughs could significantly impact prediction markets related to U.S.-Iran relations. Additionally, any public declarations from Trump or key U.S. officials about the blockade and military operations may influence market sentiment and perceived probabilities of a deal. But isn’t this the kind of corrupt swampiness MAGA set about draining from Washington? Well, up to a point. The truth is, MAGA always knew Trump was like this. In fact, it’s a big part of why they backed him in the first place. Trump’s Crypto WindfallTrump’s 2025 disclosure lists CIC Digital LLC, described as wholly owned by the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust, receiving royalties from a license agreement with Celebration Coins and reports the amount as $635,068,835. The same filing reports $236.25 million in token-sale proceeds distributed by World Liberty Financial, plus $65.6 million from the sale of equity in its holding company. Those numbers are politically explosive—and more than a little grubby—because they involve a sitting president, his family business network, and an industry his administration is figuring out how to, and if it should, regulate. But Trump has always sold his private accumulation of wealth through big business deals as his defining qualification for public office, displaying both his ruthless money-making skills and his incorruptibility. When he announced his 2016 campaign, Trump displayed a financial statement and cast his business success as proof the country needed his kind of thinking. During the first debate that fall, he cited $694 million in income and called it “the kind of thinking that our country needs.” When his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton suggested he may have paid no federal income taxes, Trump’s reply was blunt, crude, and honest all in one: “That makes me smart.” The point was never asceticism for Trump, a standard by which many, if not most other politicians seem to be measured. Trump’s bargain with voters was that he understood the game because he had already beaten it. His pitch was that wealth made him harder to fool, less dependent on donors, and better equipped to turn loopholes into leverage than other politicians. He said as much, years before the first token existed. “The licensing deals are the best of all deals because there’s no risk,” Trump told Reuters in 2016. A June Reuters investigation found the crypto ventures run on exactly that logic. Across four Trump-linked projects, the family licensed its name, promoted the products, and collected revenue as buyers piled in—generating about $2.3 billion while outside investors lost roughly the same amount. Little or no capital of the Trump family’s own was at stake. Crypto, an exciting but controversial innovation in digital finance, which critics say is a haven for criminals and scammers, has made Trump’s pitch uglier than his old licensing deals for luxury real estate and consumer goods. It has also made it more Trumpian. MAGA Bought the DealerThe $TRUMP coin launched days before Trump returned to office and surged from under $10 to as high as $74.59 before falling back, with four-fifths of its supply held by CIC Digital and an entity called Fight Fight Fight. The coin described itself as “an expression of support,” not an investment or a security—a distinction that should have cooled anyone foolish enough to be treating it as a retirement plan. A meme coin carrying the president’s personal brand sits somewhere between politics, fandom, gambling, and merchandise. It’s essentially a casino chip with a campaign button stamped on it. There were losses, though not for Trump. Roughly two-thirds of investors in the memecoin are underwater, according to the Wall Street Journal, and the Reuters tally put buyers’ collective losses near the family’s $2.3 billion in gains. No supporter deserves to be fleeced because a favorite leader put his name on a speculative asset. Still, the naivete defense has limits. The SEC has warned that crypto asset securities can be “exceptionally volatile and speculative,” with a significant risk of loss. FINRA tells investors that crypto assets can carry a real chance of losing the entire investment. A voter can call Trump’s crypto dealings unseemly all they like, but a speculator who bought a president-branded token after years of such warnings has a hard time arguing the house owed him a win. ‘Crypto Corruption’ Senator Elizabeth Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat and ranking member of the Senate Banking Committee, called Trump’s crypto business “brazen crypto corruption” after the disclosure landed. The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board—no organ of the left—accused the Trump family of “profiting off the presidency in ways that demean the office,” warning the deals could cost Republicans dearly if Democrats retake Congress. This is more than the liberal pearl-clutching we’re used to about Trump. A president whose family profits from crypto while his government rewrites crypto rules creates an obvious, undeniable problem. House Judiciary Democrats alleged in a November 2025 report that foreign actors and corporate interests were funneling money into Trump-linked ventures to buy access and favors. An Abu Dhabi-backed fund alone poured roughly $500 million into World Liberty Financial, and Warren has pressed for legislation barring senior officials and their families from profiting off the industry. Trump waved off the scrutiny, saying he was profiting only because “everybody’s profiting”—the stock market was up—and that he stays out of his own finances. His crypto and AI czar David Sacks has said the president’s assets are in a blind trust and his adult sons are not in government. But the “blind trust” is a fiction: Trump never placed his holdings in a blind trust. They sit in a revocable trust he controls as sole beneficiary, run by Donald Trump Jr. And the stock market had nothing to do with the windfall—the crypto income is royalties and token sales, not gains on stocks or bonds. Moreover, House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer, a Kentucky Republican, defended the Trump family in October last year for their transparency, contrasting it with the Biden family’s business dealings. “They're admitting they're doing this. The president campaigned as a business guy,” Comer told CNN, adding that Trump “is disclosing this income and that I think is the most important part of the transparency.” Those defenses may satisfy MAGA loyalists, or at least keep them quiet. Few have broken ranks with Trump over the memecoin. But they should not satisfy anyone who thinks public office needs bright lines around private gain. An agency ethics official concluded Trump was in compliance with applicable laws. But OGE reviews disclosures, it cannot enforce them, and enforcement rests with a Justice Department run by Trump’s appointees. Compliance and public confidence are separate problems, and this filing is a map of the distance between them. Trump’s crypto fortune does not prove every buyer was conned or every policy decision was sold, of course. It does prove, however, that the Trump movement’s comfort with wealth, deal-making, and rule arbitrage has reached an industry built for speed, opacity, and celebrity-driven speculation. Trump was made for crypto. The MAGA Bargain It is easy to see the new crypto numbers as a betrayal of Trump’s voters, many of whom are struggling middle-and-working class voters who can never hope to own even a tiny fraction, if that, of what these deals alone made for him. But this is the kind of transaction many Trump supporters were primed to admire. Trump’s 2016 defense of tax avoidance turned a vulnerability into a virtue. He did not apologize for using the law to his advantage, he said he used the system because he was running a company. That logic sat right at the center of his populism. The problem was not his instinct for aggressive self-interest, in Trump’s telling, but stupid leaders who failed to turn pursuit of self-interest into national advantage. You can see precisely this logic at play in his “America First” approach to diplomacy, defense, and trade, where his turbulent, hard-bargain style is driven by putting U.S. interests—as he sees them—on top of all else. Look at tariffs. Look at NATO. Look at the Donroe Doctrine. It’s all in plain sight. Whether the “crypto corruption” story sticks to Trump will depend on how his voters parse it, especially those who bought the coin and experienced losses—as personal betrayal, or as the cost of playing near power. Will the Trump supporters among the two-thirds of memecoin buyers now sitting on losses begin to defect, or simply shrug and stay with him? Many Trump supporters have long treated elite scolding of him as proof he is doing something right. When the same institutions that failed to predict his rise declare his latest moneymaking venture disqualifying, the warning can sound like the same old complaint: that Trump is rich in the wrong way, too openly and too vulgarly. Trump never hid his worldview. He bragged about wealth, defended tax avoidance as intelligence, and treated political leadership as an extension of deal-making. Crypto Don is no deviation from the brand. He is the brand, tokenized. House Must Always WinIf Congress wants to stop presidents and their families from cashing in on crypto, it can write tighter restrictions. Senate Democrats already tried once with an amendment to bar the president and his family from profiting off the 2025 stablecoin law was stripped out before passage. Warren is pushing to write similar limits into the market-structure bill now moving through the Senate. If investors want protection from celebrity coins, they can start by believing the risk warnings regulators have already published. Trump’s opponents are right to see a conflict of interest problem. But they should not be surprised if Trump’s supporters are content with the moral architecture of $TRUMP. MAGA did not elevate a monk to high office only to discover a hustler in false robes. It backed the man who said he knew how the game worked, and he was willing to play it in America’s interests on the global stage. Whether it’s in his crypto casino or the Oval Office, Trump’s rule is the same: the house must always win. In a polarized era, the center is dismissed as bland. Top PolitiFi Coins Buck Market Trend, Suffer Pullback | CoinGecko News
|
Original source text
Leading political finance (PolitiFi) coins have defied the broader market trend, experiencing price declines in the past 24 hours. ConstitutionDAO (PEOPLE) and Maga (MAGA) saw their values drop despite overall market stability. These movements come as the US election day, set for November 5, approaches, adding uncertainty to the performance of these politically linked tokens. ConstitutionDAO Loses SteamPEOPLE currently trades at $0.08, registering a 2% drop over the past 24 hours. During that period, its trading volume has surged by 17%. A price drop accompanied by rising trading volume suggests that many traders are selling the asset, creating downward pressure. PEOPLE’s negative Chaikin Money Flow supports this bearish bias. As of this writing, it is at -0.01 and in a downward trend. Read more: 7 Hot Meme Coins and Altcoins that are Trending in 2024 PEOPLE CMF. Source: TradingViewWhen both price and CMF are declining, the bearish sentiment is strengthened. The falling price shows weakness, and the negative CMF confirms that traders are not accumulating the asset, further reinforcing the downward momentum. If the downtrend continues, PEOPLE’s price could drop by 26%, reaching $0.06. Should the bulls fail to defend this support level, a further decline to $0.05 may occur. PEOPLE Price Analysis. Source: TradingViewThe Demand for MAGA Grows WeakerMAGA is another leading PolitiFi coin whose value has plunged over the past 24 hours. The meme coin currently trades at $0.00014, noting a 10% price drop during the period on review. Its technical setup, assessed on a 12-hour chart, confirms the waning accumulation. For example, readings from its moving average convergence/divergence (MACD) indicator show its MACD line (blue) below the signal line (orange). This indicator tracks a trend’s momentum. When set up this way, it signals weakening momentum and indicates a downward price trend. Additionally, MAGA’s Elder-Ray Index has fallen below zero, sitting at -0.000027. This indicator assesses the strength of buyers and sellers, with a negative value signaling that sellers are currently stronger, reflecting bearish market sentiment. If this trend continues, MAGA’s price could decline by 57%, potentially reaching $0.000061. Read more: Best Crypto To Buy Now: Top Coins To Keep an Eye on in October 2024 MAGA Price Analysis. Source: TradingViewHowever, if the altcoin witnesses a resurgence in demand, MAGA’s price may rebound and climb toward $0.0031, invalidating the bearish projection. |

Why These Altcoins Are Trending Today — November 6 | CoinGecko News
|
Original source text
The top trending cryptocurrencies today include some new entries, according to data from CoinGecko. However, the list also includes a usual suspect, which is trending due to the just-concluded US election. In this analysis. BeInCrypto explains why these altcoins are trending and what could be next for prices. That said, the top three trending altcoins include Nym (NYM), MAGA (TRUMP), and Panther AI (PAI). Nym (NYM)Nym tops the list of trending cryptocurrencies today due to its massive price increase. The project, which is a blockchain-based privacy network using zero-knowledge proofs, has seen its price climb by 28% in the last 24 hours. As of this writing, NYM’s price is $0.075. However, on the daily chart, the Relative Strength Index (RSI) has hit 91.79. The RSI measures momentum and shows if an asset is overbought or oversold. When the reading is below 30.00, the asset is oversold. On the other hand, when the reading is above 80.00, the asset is overbought, which appears to be the case with NYM. Considering this position, the altcoin’s price might drop to $0.068, especially if profit–taking rises. Read more: 12 Best Altcoin Exchanges for Crypto Trading in November 2024 Nym 4-Hour Analysis. Source: TradingView However, this prediction might be invalidated if buying pressure continues to rise. In that scenario, NYM’s value could jump toward $0.10. MAGA (TRUMP)MAGA is unsurprisingly part of the top trending cryptocurrencies today, largely due to Donald Trump’s victory as US president. However, unlike NYM, TRUMP’s price experienced a 20% drawdown in the last 24 hours. This price decrease implies that Trump’s election was a “sell the news” event. According to the daily chart, the Relative Strength Index (RSI) has dropped below the neutral 50.00 point, which indicates bearish momentum around the altcoin’s price. Should the remain the same, TRUMP’s value might drop to $1.67.However, if buying pressure increases, the trend might change. In that scenario, the meme coin’s value might bounce to $4.83. MAGA Daily Analysis. Source: TradingView Self Chain (SLF)Self Chain (SLF) is one of the top trending cryptocurrencies today, largely due to its price increase. At press time, the token of the layer-1 blockchain has increased by 17% in the last 24 hours and currently trades at $0.29. According to the 4-hour chart, the Awesome Oscillator (AO), which measures momentum, has risen to the positive region. When the AO is negative, momentum is bearish. But when it is positive, momentum is bullish. Read more: 7 Hot Meme Coins and Altcoins that are Trending in 2024 Self Chain 4-Hour Analysis. Source: TradingView Therefore, if momentum remains bullish, SLF’s price might continue to increase. If that happens, the altcoins’ value could rally to the highest level of the wick at $0.34. On the flip side, a rise in selling pressure could invalidate this prediction, and the price of altcoin could drop to $0.2 |

Original source text
Join Our Telegram channel to stay up to date on breaking news coverageNew PolitiFi coin FreeDum Fighters ($DUM) has quickly raised $100,000 in just one hour, as MAGA ($TRUMP) and $MAGA whales take notice by making a big splash in this newly launched presale. As the U.S. election heats up and the crypto space bets big on their presidential pick through Polymarket, FreeDum Fighters takes a more lighthearted approach to patriotism, adding a bit of fun before polling day. The project invites political junkies to side with “Magatron” or “Kamacop 9000,” two mechanized versions of the leading candidates for office. Both crypto libs and dems can join this gamified version of the U.S. election and participate in debates, voting, and earning rewards with the project’s native token, the cross-platform accessible $DUM. Right now, early contributors can buy $DUM for $0.00005 per token. However, the price will increase through multiple presale stages, with the next round set at $0.000075 per $DUM. PolitiFi Is Heating Up With The U.S. Elections Nearing The PolitiFi sector within the crypto sphere is buzzing, climbing 6.26% in the past 24 hours to reach a market capitalization of $772 million. Bettors on Polymarket are wagering $622 million on a Trump win, compared to $414 million for Harris – something that could potentially aggravate the Vice President’s Trump Derangement Syndrome, if she indeed has it. Overall trading volume in the presidential election winner market on Polymarket has surpassed $2 billion. It’s clear that the industry is banking on a Trump victory, which has positively impacted the prices of Trump-related PolitiFi coins. For instance, $TRUMP surged by 6.72%, while $MAGA soared by 2.78% in the past day. That said, Kamala Harris-related coins have also fared well. In the same timeframe, Kamala Harris ($HARRIS) ticked up 7.11%, and Kamala Horris ($KAMA) saw a 14.28% bump. Belatedly, the Harris camp is also signaling positive regulatory vibes for crypto, so whoever wins, digital asset investors will probably be smiling. While this meme coin subset is making a lot of noise lately, with Election Day just two and a half weeks away, whales are also turning their attention to new coins in the industry. One that has caught their immediate interest is FreeDum Fighters, which quickly raised $100,000 in just one hour on Thursday. But what is it about FreeDum Fighters that has crypto’s most politically inclined investors so engaged? Prepare For The FreeDum Fighters: Magatron Versus Kamacop FreeDum Fighters introduces Magatron and Kamacop 9000, both ready to bring the rumble to the polls. The passionately patriotic Magatron offers an impressive 861.51% APY, while the trailblazing feminist Kamacop 9000 boasts an astounding 28,755% APY. $DUM, the primary currency for entering the FreeDum Fighters ecosystem, powers the debate rewards and staking. This token enables users to vote, earn rewards, and engage in various activities within the project. When users invest in the presale, they are prompted to vote (stake) their $DUM tokens for one of the candidates. If their chosen candidate wins a debate or significant favorable events arise, they will receive airdropped rewards added to their staked balance. Only those who have voted (staked) will qualify for these rewards. Around 108 Billion $DUM Tokens Will Be Up For Grabs In The ICO The project’s token has a total supply of 270 billion, with 40% – or 108 billion $DUM tokens – allocated for the presale. Twenty percent, equating to 54 billion $DUM, will go into a liquidity pool to ensure robust trading on decentralized exchanges (DEXs). An equal amount will be reserved for staking pools. Additionally, 10% of the total supply, or 27 billion $DUM, will fund the abovementioned debate rewards, giving all participants a chance to claim a share of this pot. The remaining 10% will cover various initiatives, including marketing strategies tied to real-world political milestones to boost the project’s visibility. According to the FreeDum Fighters’ roadmap, these efforts are set to kick off as early as Phase One. This final allocation will also support the upcoming token listing, which is expected to follow the crowning of the new leader between Magatron and Kamacop 9000. How To Participate In The FreeDum Fighters’ ICO Political-themed tokens are rallying this year, and $DUM is primed to ride the wave as elections continue to dominate the headlines. The head-chopping face-offs between the two parties set the stage for some much-needed comic relief from FreeDum Fighters, with $DUM offering a playful spin on this intense showdown while appealing to both sides of the political spectrum. Whether it’s Magatron or Kamacop 9000 that claims victory, one thing’s certain: $DUM’s price is ready to blast off to the moon. PolitiFi Meme Coins Plummet After 0 Mentions of Crypto in the US Presidential Debate | CoinGecko News
|
Original source text
The first general debate of the 2024 US Presidential election concluded without a single mention of cryptocurrencies or Bitcoin. This silence, despite significant backing from crypto political action committees (PACs), sent shockwaves through the market. As a result, politically themed (PolitiFi) meme coins took a substantial hit. Coinbase Expresses Disappointment With the US Presidential DebateHeld in Atlanta, Georgia, the debate featured current President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. Moderated by CNN anchors Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, the 90-minute discussion spanned topics from the economy to foreign policy. However, it only briefly touched on economic issues and completely avoided technology policy, including the crypto sector. Consequently, the crypto community, which had hoped for at least some acknowledgment from Trump, known for his crypto-friendly stance, was left disappointed. After the debate, the total market capitalization of PolitiFi meme coins fell by 6.7%. Individual coins suffered even more; MAGA (TRUMP) dropped by 14.1% and MAGA Hat (MAGA) by 14.6%. Doland Tremp (TREMP) saw a decline of 15.3%, while Joe Biden-themed meme coin Jeo Boden (BODEN) plummeted by a staggering 32.5%. Read more: 7 Hot Meme Coins and Altcoins that are Trending in 2024 Top PolitiFi Meme Coins. Source: CoinGeckoCoinbase, a major player in the crypto exchange market, expressed its disappointment shortly after the debate. “The first presidential debate has just ended, and crypto has not been mentioned. With 52 million Americans and 19% of Georgians owning crypto, it’s time to make sure it’s part of the conversation going forward,” Coinbase stated. In light of the debate’s oversight, Coinbase is now focusing its efforts on its PAC, Stand With Crypto, which has received over $87 million in donations. Moreover, Coinbase supports the Fairshake Super PAC, to which it contributed an additional $25 million in June. Collectively, Fairshake and its affiliates have raised over $177 million this election cycle, including $70 million spent in support of pro-crypto candidates. Despite the debate’s lack of discussion on crypto, Trump’s actions suggest a strong alignment with the crypto community. This may significantly influence his political prospects. Quisque arcu lorem, ultricies quis pellentesque nec, ullamcorper eu odio. Recent reports claim that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will drop out of the US presidential race on Friday. The rumors have made PolitiFi tokens rise over 15% on the last day. While tokens inspired by RFK Jr. have plunged, Trump-themed memecoins took the lead with a 40% surge. RFK Jr. To Dropout Of The Presidential Race During this cycle, memecoins have been at the front of the industry, becoming the largest narrative of the first two quarters. Due to the sector’s nature, crypto investors have immortalized the current event through these tokens, including the upcoming November US presidential elections. A candidate’s crypto stance has become a key factor for voters after the Biden administration’s crackdown on the industry. As a result, pro-crypto candidates have received significant support from the community. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was among the first to share his industry-friendly approach throughout his campaign, endorsing Bitcoin and blockchain technology. However, recent reports claim the Independent candidate will drop out of the race on Friday. According to ABC News, sources close to Kennedy claim that the presidential candidate will endorse former US president Donald Trump after dropping out. Trump embraced the industry this year and later started accepting donations of different cryptocurrencies. Per the report, “One possible scenario being discussed is for Kennedy to appear on stage with Trump at an event in Phoenix on Friday.” Sources familiar to both candidates cautioned that nothing is finalized and “Kennedy’s thinking could always change.” Nonetheless, the news comes days after the Independent candidate revealed he would not endorse US VP and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. Trump Memecoins Take The PolitiFi Lead PolitiFi tokens surged 15.5% in the last 24 hours, with the price of memecoins inspired by the former US president taking the lead. As the rumors of RFK Jr. endorsement hit, online reports revealed the republican candidate’s chances of winning the election rose again. According to Polymarket’s 2024 Presidential Election Forecast, Trump’s chances rose to 54% after the news, with a 7% lead against Kamala Harris’ chances. Following the news, the largest Trump-themed token, MAGA (TRUMP), saw a massive increase. TRUMP’s price has taken a hit since the end of July when it was trading above the $6 mark. The memecoin retraced below the $3 support zone following the August market crashes, registering a 41.5% drop in the last 30 days. However, TRUMP skyrocketed 55.6% toward the $4.14 mark on Thursday. As of this writing the token is trading at $3.7, a 40% increase in the last 24 hours. Other memecoins inspired by the former US president also saw a significant surge. After the news, Doland Tremp (TREMP), Super Trump (STRUMP), and MAGA Hat (MAGA) rose 16%, 25%, and 23% respectively. Meanwhile, the KAMA and KEIDY memecoins registered a 30% and 57% price drop in the last 24 hours. MAGA (TRUMP) performance in the three-day chart. Donald Trump Survives Second Assassination Attempt, But MAGA, TRUMP, TREMP Crash | CoinGecko News
|
Original source text
Following the second Donald Trump assassination attempt, the former president reassured his supporters that he was “safe and well.” The FBI responded to the incident at West Palm Beach, Florida, where Trump was enjoying golfing at the Trump International Golf Club. A suspect has already been arrested and is in custody. The incident happens just two months after another assassination attempt on Trump’s life during a rally in Pennsylvania. Like the first time, Trump emerged strong, reassuring his supporters that “Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER! I will always love you for supporting me.” So, how are PolitiFi tokens doing after this? Second Donald Trump Assassination Impacts Crypto Tokens Following the incident, Trump-based crypto tokens dropped in price. Even after showing strength, the token price remained in the negative, signaling that maybe the assassination attempts are an omen to his presidential bid come November. Can MAGA, TRUMP, and TREMP recover, and when will they recover? Maga Hat (MAGA) Maga Hat is the second largest Trump-based token by market cap. Trading at $0.00006116, MAGA price took a 7.2% hit in the aftermath of the new Donald Trump assassination attempt, bringing it to a total of 32.5% loss in the last 7 days. Nevertheless, the MAGA price chart shows relatively strong support at around $0.046, which has held the price up before. MAGA has a current market cap of $25 million and is only up 73% from its all-time low price. This presents a potential opportunity for investors to jump while it’s around the bottom. MAGA (TRUMP) MAGA, the largest Trump meme coin, has taken a 12.2% hit. The price is sitting at $2.12 down from an all-time high price of $17.07, almost 87% down. Nevertheless, the earliest investors are still 184X in profit. The TRUMP price chart shows the asset may continue dropping to find support at $1.2 before attempting a bounce. Below that, MAGA could drop to $0.40-$0.70, where there is relatively a stronger resistance-turned-support. Doland Tremp (TREMP) Doland Tremp, with a small market cap of $12 million, shows promise for recovery. This is the third largest Trump parody coin by market cap, and at the current price of $0.1231, it has dropped only 2.9% over the past 24 hours. Additionally, the price is hovering around a zone of strong support, tested three times over the last one month. Although all of the tokens have fair chances of recovery, TREMP price has the highest chance of recovering sooner. If it bounces from this level, it may find resistance around $0.20 before surging higher to $0.55 and finally $0.8. Conclusion Donald Trump assassination has affected crypto prices today mainly because of his recent pro-crypto stance. A win for Trump in the upcoming elections would be a win for the crypto industry. Donald Trump remains unshaken as the planned launch of his new crypto project, World Liberty Financial (WLFI), remains as scheduled. |

Trump based cryptocurrencies rally over 100% ahead of election day | CoinGecko News
|
Original source text
Trump-based politiFi tokens rallied ahead of the United States election with some posting gains over 120% in the past 24 hours.MAGA Hat (MAGA), MAGA (TRUMP), Doland Tremp (TREMP), Super Trump (STRUMP), TrumpCoin (DJT) and other meme coins themed around former U.S. president Donald Trump saw significant gains as the overall market cap of PolitFi coins rose 5.4% bringing it to over $685 million in valuation. Meanwhile, Kamabla (KAMABLA) was the only meme coin spun around Vice President Kamala Harris to see a positive day. KAMABLA surged 32.7% over the past day with an intra-day high and low of $0.00078 and $0.00049 respectively. Political meme coins gained traction as the hype around these tokens peaked with the Presidential elections set for Nov. 5, an event expected to shape the future of the crypto sector in the U.S. and globally. Trump tokens took the lead despite narrowing odds of the former President winning across prediction platforms. Polymarket data shows Trump’s chances of winning have dropped from 66.9% seen on Oct. 30 to 56% when writing. Meanwhile, Harris saw her chances rise from 33.5% to 44% reflecting a shifting market sentiment, as investors leaned towards the idea of an unpredictable outcome based on historical inaccuracies of polls during past election years. Earlier on Nov. 3, the majority of Trump-themed meme coins faced a downturn following some agitated remarks made by Trump during the republican candidate’s Milwaukee rally. However, most of the tokens have since recovered and offset the past day’s losses. Yet, based on the recent price action of these tokens it seems investors remain slightly biased towards Trump’s chances of returning to the white house. DJT was up 129.1%, placing it as the leading gainer while Pepe (TRUMP) saw gains of over 124.3% over the past day. Other popular meme coins MAGA, TRUMPCOIN, STRUMP, MAGA Pepe (MAPE) and TREMP posted gains of 58.4%, 46.5%, 36.9%, 28.2% and 14.3% respectively. Source: CoinGecko Trump has widely been regarded as a crypto-friendly president in recent years. He has pledged to launch a Bitcoin reserve for the U.S. aimed to curb the $35 trillion U.S. debt over the years ahead. He has also committed to making the U.S. ‘crypto capital of the planet.’ Price rallies around these cryptocurrencies are primarily driven by the hype surrounding elections and other political events, leading traders to classify them as ‘event coins.’ Tokens themed around each candidate are likely to surge based on election outcomes but are expected to pull back once the initial excitement fades. However, some experts suggest that if these tokens develop tangible utility, they could eventually shed their meme coin status and gain a more stable footing in the market. |

Quisque arcu lorem, ultricies quis pellentesque nec, ullamcorper eu odio. Just hours away from the US presidential elections, PolitiFi tokens have seen a remarkable boost. The sector has experienced a nearly 10% surge in the last 24 hours, with Trump-themed memecoins leading the way. Following the recent performance, some investors forecast a massive rally for these tokens in the coming days. Trump-Themed Memecoins See 30% Jump The PolitiFi sector gained popularity after several memecoins inspired by US politicians registered a massive performance earlier this year. Some tokens had their market capitalization break above the $100 million mark, with a couple still holding the feat. Memecoins inspired by the former US President and Republican candidate Donald J. Trump have led the sector throughout his presidential campaign. The tokens recorded massive rallies this year, hitting their peak during Q2. Cryptocurrencies like MAGA (TRUMP) and Doland Tremp (TREMP) hit the $17 and $1.5 marks, respectively, as their all-time high (ATH), fueled by Trump’s crypto-friendly statements. However, most of these cryptocurrencies have retraced significantly since June, pulling back over 70% in most cases. Now that the elections are just hours away, the PolitiFi sector is soaring again, surging around 10% in the last 24 hours, while the crypto market sees a 1.5% retrace. Memecoins themed after Trump held their lead, registering green performance during the past day. TRUMP has seen a 26% surge in the last 24 hours, trading above the $3.8 range. Meanwhile, MAGA Hat (MAGA) records a 32.6% price jump in the same timeframe, nearing a $90 million market cap earlier today. MAGA’s daily trading activity has also increased nearly 30%, registering a $41.7 million trading volume on the last day. PolitiFi Tokens In The Hands Of The Election The sector’s rally is seemingly fueled by the anticipation surrounding the elections. Notably, volatility is forecasted to peak in the following days as speculation about the election’s outcome increases. Some investors believe the PolitiFi token’s rally will continue in the following days, with Trump-themed memecoins expected to skyrocket in case of Trump’s victory. Just 10 hours before the election, the Republican candidate’s winning odds are considerably higher than the Democratic nominee, Kamala Harris. Polymarket’s live forecast shows that Trump leads the prediction market with a 15% gap. Trump’s winning odds 10 hours before the presidential elections. Source: Polymarket Following the presidential debate, the former president lost ground to the US Vice President in early September. At the time, the Democratic nominee surpassed Trump’s winning odds by 4%. However, these have seen a significant retrace in the last month. The Republican candidate regained his lead in October, recording a considerable 33% gap between his winning odds and Harris’. By the end of the month, Trump led the predictions market with a 66% chance of winning, which has now retraced to 57%. Amid Trump’s winning odds, the memecoins inspired by the US VP have recorded a considerable decrease in the past day. Kamala Horris (KAMA), the largest Harris-inspired token, retraced nearly 25% in the last 24 hours, seeing a 34% decrease in daily trading activity. TRUMP’s performance in the three-day chart. The political landscape in the US has seen a significant development after President Joe Biden announced he was dropping out of the presidential rally. Following the news, the PolitiFi memecoin sector saw a major shift as Biden-themed tokens immediately plunged and Kamala Harris-inspired tokens soared. After years of a hostile and “overreaching” regulatory approach from the US government, politicians’ stance on cryptocurrencies has become a turning point for many voters. On Sunday afternoon, US President Joe Biden announced he was stepping down as a Presidential Candidate for the upcoming elections. Biden detailed that he decided to focus on fulfilling his duties as president for the remainder of his term. In another post, he endorsed vice-president Kamala Harris as the candidate for the Democratic party: “Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats -It’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.” Following the announcement, industry figures like Artur Hayes and Justin Sun reacted online. The Tron founder replied to Biden’s X post, stating, “Goodbye Biden, crypto will last forever.” Meanwhile, The BitMEX co-founder noted that Trump’s chances of winning would only increase if Harris is not the Democratic nominee. Hayes also said Trump will “smoke her like a Cuban” if she “actually becomes the nominee.” The crypto community expressed mixed opinions, with some users sharing a bearish sentiment. Some believe that Trump’s chances of winning were clear against Biden but could significantly reduce depending on the Democratic nominee.
