July 21 (Reuters) - Super Micro Computer (SMCI.O), opens new tab said on Tuesday it had secured ​more than $60 billion in new orders in ‌the fourth quarter, and now expects gross margin to exceed its previous forecast, sending its shares surging 17.5% in extended ​trading.

Artificial-intelligence infrastructure firms have seen demand accelerate ​as tech companies and cloud providers ramp up ⁠investments in data centers to support large language ​models and other AI applications.

The AI server maker expects ​gross margins in the range of 15% to 17% for the quarter ended June 30, well above its earlier forecast of ​8.2% to 8.4%, "primarily due to a favorable customer ​and product mix."

Super Micro's backlog grew to "record levels" at the ‌end ⁠of fiscal year 2026, it said in a preliminarily statement of results.

It expects quarterly revenue near the low end of its $11 billion to $12.5 billion forecast range. ​Analysts expect revenue ​of $11.67 billion, ⁠according to data complied by LSEG.

The company is set to post quarterly results ​on August 11.

Super Micro had said in ​June ⁠it would raise $7 billion through a series of equity and equity-linked financing transactions and use the proceeds to fulfill ⁠orders ​worth about $39 billion for its ​advanced AI servers from more than 20 customers.

The rear door heat exchanger, which is installed in the back of the server rack as a cooling door, uses liquid to absorb and dissipate heat to keep AI servers cool while consuming less energy than traditional air cooling systems.

The new cooling products are part of Super Micro Computer’s Data Center Building Block Solutions, which combine servers, racks, cooling, networking, management software and deployment services into a complete data center solution. Customers can buy an integrated system instead of sourcing components from multiple vendors, simplifying deployment and reducing integration risks.

A key advantage of the new RDHx portfolio is its flexibility. The solutions can be installed in both newly built and existing data centers without requiring major infrastructure changes. They are compatible with standard EIA, ORv3 and NVIDIA MGX racks, allowing operators to upgrade facilities for AI workloads without constructing entirely new data centers.

The cooling systems also include intelligent fan controls, anti-condensation protection and redundant components to improve reliability while lowering operating costs. This is Super Micro Computer’s strategy of offering end-to-end AI infrastructure rather than just servers. As AI clusters become denser and generate significantly more heat, efficient liquid cooling is becoming an essential requirement.

How Competitors Fare Against SMCIThe AI data center market is growing rapidly, with players like Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE - Free Report) and Dell Technologies (DELL - Free Report) already competing with SMCI in this space for greater market share. Hewlett Packard Enterprise offers liquid-cooled HPC and AI servers through its HPE Cray and Apollo systems.

Dell offers liquid cooling architectures through its Apex and PowerEdge platforms. The six people were questioned over ⁠alleged document forgery and breach of trust, it said, adding searches were conducted at 12 locations, including the homes ​of six suspects and the offices of three companies.

The companies searched were Super Micro Taiwan, Albatron Technology (5386.TWO), opens new tab, Super Micro's distributor in ​Taiwan, and Chief Telecom (6561.TWO), opens new tab, a data centre operator.

In a letter to customers issued in the United States on Wednesday, Super Micro Chief Revenue Officer Matthew Thauberger said the four employees had been questioned on June 29 in connection with what he described as a Taiwanese investigation ​regarding the company's sale of products to a technology company in Taiwan.

"Two of the four employees have been detained pending ​a hearing, and the other two have been released on bail," Thauberger wrote in the letter.

"Super Micro is not a target of this investigation," ‌he ⁠said, adding that the company had been working with Taiwanese authorities for several months.

Thauberger said the company had provided Taiwan authorities access to the employees' desks and electronic devices and had immediately placed all four employees on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.

In May, Taiwanese prosecutors launched the first round of the investigation, detaining three people suspected of illegally exporting Super Micro's ​high-end AI servers, equipped with ​the Nvidia chips. Those ⁠three remain in detention.

In a statement issued in May, Super Micro said it had been cooperating with Taiwan authorities in an investigation into the alleged diversion of its AI servers to ​the restricted Chinese market. The cooperation had led to the seizure of 50 servers, the ​company said, ⁠adding that they had been deceptively acquired after being sold to an authorised reseller.

In March, the U.S. Justice Department charged three people associated with Super Micro, including one of its co-founders, with helping smuggle at least $2.5 billion worth of U.S. AI technology to China in ⁠violation of ​U.S. export laws.

Semiconductor powerhouse Taiwan is the world's largest producer of advanced ​chips used in AI applications.

Speaking at the said conference in Germany, management confirmed that the liquid-cooled rack solution scales up to an immense 1,152 NVDA Rubin GPUs and 576 NVDA Vera CPUs.

Deployments are locked in for the back half of this year to align with Nvidia’s general availability, giving investors a concrete, cutting-edge roadmap.

With the financing package now officially closed and completed, the looming fear of further near-term dilution is off the table.

That said, Wall Street analysts don’t really share GF Securities’ optimism on SMCI.

The stock may look cheap, but it's not worth buying Supermicro stock trades at 11 times its estimated future earnings (based on analyst estimates). It's a cheap-looking valuation, but investors have long valued the stock at a discount due to its risk. Its auditor quit the company back in 2024, raising concerns about its controls and procedures. Earlier this year, multiple people connected to Supermicro, including its co-founder Yih-Shyan Liaw, were charged with violating U.S. export laws and sending Nvidia chips to China.
