Monolith Adds Support For Kyber Network (KNC)

CoinGecko News
Original source text
On September 24, Monolith announced the addition of Kyber Network’s KNC token to its Visa debit card.

Monolith is an Ethereum-based banking alternative for the world of decentralised finance. Users can now exchange KNC and other Ethereum-based tokens to fiat and load them onto their cards. Monolith Visa debit cardholders can also use KNC to purchase goods and services at 45 million locations worldwide that accept Visa as a payment method. TKN, Monolith’s token, is also listed on Kyber’s Ethereum-based decentralised exchange.

To encourage people to try Monolith, the two teams are collaborating on a giveaway. 30 winners will split a total of $900 in KNC with another bonus being added for users with Monolith Wallets.

Mel Gelderman, CEO of Monolith stated, “We admire Kyber’s efforts in creating a leading decentralised exchange. It will be a key feature in Monolith’s non-custodial banking replacement. Having TKN listed on Kyber, and KNC listed on the Monolith Visa Card makes sense due to our shared vision of the benefits of decentralised finance.“

Kyber Network Technology and Programmes

Kyber is an on-chain liquidity protocol that powers instant and secure token exchanges in any decentralised application. From September 9 to October 21, the project and several of its partners are hosting a virtual hackathon. The purpose of this 6-week event is to educate more developers around the world about its liquidity protocol and token swap technology, and how they can be used to create innovative payment flows and DeFi (decentralised or open finance) products. As part of this competition, $42,000 in bounties are up for grabs across multiple development categories.

As of September 2019, Kyber supports more than 70 different tokens, and powers over 70 integrated projects including popular wallets such as MEW, Trust, Enjin, and HTC Exodus smartphone. The project’s protocol is adding integrations with a growing list of dApps, particularly ones focused on decentralised NFT and ecommerce payments, exchanges and trading integrations, and DeFi.

Monolith Continues Expansion

Monolith is pioneering the real world application of DeFi by shipping the world's first non-custodial Ethereum wallet linked with a Visa debit card. The project is working hard to realise its vision of bringing the token economy to the real-world. On this front, Monolith is busy enabling ERC20 tokens to be spent on its platform. In addition to KNC, ETH, and TKN, Monolith’s debit card can now be used to spend Maker (MKR), Dai (DAI), DigixDAO (DGD), and Digix Gold (DGX) tokens. The Monolith wallet now supports a number of popular ERC-20 tokens.

The Monolith App is currently available in the iOS App Store and will soon be available for public release in the Android Play Store. Recently, the project sent invites to the first 120 people who registered for its Android beta testing.

On September 23, the project announced a community-wide vote to determine which tokens will be added next to the Monolith Card. The two tokens with the most votes out of the following four choices will be selected. Candidates include 0x (ZRX), Chainlink (LINK), Pundi X (NPSX), and Augur (REP). The project is working towards eventually making all Ethereum tokens spendable.

Money Lego: Compound Finance Is a Growing Hit in Ethereum DeFi
ETH Ethereum HT Huobi Token MANA Decentraland MKR Maker NMR Numeraire SAI Sai TUSD TrueUSD USDT Tether
CoinGecko News
Original source text
In recent months, Compound Finance has become one of the most popular lending platforms in the entire cryptoeconomy. Can it become the most popular?

To be sure, it remains to be seen if Compound will one day unseat Dai builders Maker atop the DeFi ecosystem, even if temporarily. Still, the project’s builders have recently been taking steps to make the “money lego” platform better and its users’ happier. That’s certainly a start.

For example, one of the bigger threads in Compound’s march toward maturity hit the limelight this week as attention gathered around its fresh audit. Specifically, the smart contract specialists at the OpenZeppelin project just published an audit on some of the Compound platform’s most important smart contracts.

⚠️ Here we present a summary of the @compoundfinance audit, including:

– System overview
– Privileged Roles and Future Direction
– Interest-free loans
– Counterproductive incentives
– Full audit reporthttps://t.co/OsGE6w3gnT

— OpenZeppelin (@OpenZeppelin) August 28, 2019

The good news? OpenZeppelin didn’t find any code issues that it deemed to be “critical.” But the auditors did find a series of lesser serious issues that helped the Ethereum community understand the fledgling Compound platform better.

Among these issues, one problem highlighted was that there are currently admin keys that could be used to compromise some of Compound’s tech.

Custodial Compound contracts pose a risk of *unsecured debt*

> cTokens used as collateral remain in the borrower's wallet but are non-transferable

> Admin could allow transfer of collateral cTokens… essentially enabling Compound debt to be undercollateralized https://t.co/jHzlwZgvQe

— Eva Beylin (@evabeylin) August 27, 2019

In response, Compound co-founder Robert Leshner later noted that the platform intended to evolve toward total decentralization.

“Absolutely; the FAQ […] and whitepaper […] are both very transparent about how the admin privileges work, and our goal to decentralize away from having an admin at all,” Leshner said on August 27th.

Love ’em or hate ’em, Compound opening up their contracts for everyone to pick apart only works in their favor in the long run.

New Assets Being Voted In Like other cryptocurrency platforms, Compound only supports a select number of cryptocurrencies. But that number is about to get bigger.

That’s because Compound has opened up a voting period for its users to decide which digital assets they want to see on the platform next. The projects currently up for consideration include Maker, Tether, Decentraland, Huobi Token, Loom Network, Numeraire, OmiseGo, Paxos, and TrueUSD.

Voting has begun to select the next two Compound protocol assets!

????️ Make your selection: https://t.co/En6tOQffeo

???? Learn more: https://t.co/9uAeCVgcAD

⏱️ Voting is open for two weeks!

— Compound Labs (@compoundfinance) August 28, 2019

“Voting will last for 14 days, after which the 2 winning tokens will be added to the protocol following the creation of cToken integration contracts, successful security audits, and a determination of suitability,” the aforementioned Leshner said.

The Berlin Bump and Beyond Berlin Blockchain Week was earlier this month, and one of its events — ETHBerlin Zwei — saw no shortage of Hackathon projects built atop Compound. That gave the platform a tangible bump in usage.

According to tracker website DeFi Pulse, Compound has been steadily gaining on Maker’s DeFi dominance as of late. Of course, Maker still dominates more than 50 percent of the DeFi ecosystem, but Maker’s slice of the pie has been slowly declining as Compound has gained more attention.

2/ The total supply of DAI in the market has lowered around $14M in the last 90d thanks in part to CDPs moving to Compound and tools like @InstaDApp's Bridge. And so, the stability fee is starting to lower as a result. [TVL charts included for reference. Note difference in scale] pic.twitter.com/sckUjnPvL3

— DeFi Pulse (@defipulse) August 30, 2019

It’s not that one is more impressive than the other, rather that both are at the top of DeFi right now and Compound is notably gaining steam. With that said, Maker and Compound are far from enemies as the DeFi Pulse team has explained:

“For the time being, they appear to have a symbiotic relationship. Maker prints the DAI, Compound creates more demand for DAI in the market.”

Dharma Pivots to Compound On August 29th, Dharma — a top 10 DeFi project at present — announced that it was relaunching its cryptocurrency services upon having phased out its initial offering.

The twist? Dharma’s new services will rely on Compound’s liquidity pools. In moving away from crypto lending, the project’s first offering after the relaunch will be a savings product.

“Working with Compound allows Dharma to focus on the parts of the business which they do best, which in my view include design, product, and user experience, and instead outsource part of the stack,” Autonomous Partners founder and Dharma investor Arianna Simpson said on the news.

Securities or No? Big Crypto Firms Join Forces to Rate Cryptocurrency Projects
BTC Bitcoin EOS EOS ETH Ethereum FNSA FINSCHIA LINK Chainlink LTC Litecoin MKR Maker NMR Numeraire REP Augur SAI Sai XLM Stellar Lumens XMR Monero XRP Ripple XTZ Tezos ZEC Zcash
CoinGecko News

Some of the most popular companies in the cryptoeconomy have banded together to create an organization that will assess and rate top cryptocurrency projects on the likelihood of these projects being securities per U.S. federal securities laws.

That organization, the Crypto Rating Council (CRC), counts exchange operators like Bittrex, Coinbase, Kraken, and Poloniex-backers Circle among its first members, as well as the firms of Anchorage, DRW Cumberland, Genesis, and Grayscale Investments.

So why the need for such a body?

The so-called Howey Test, which is a test devised by the U.S. Supreme Court to determine if a given asset is a security, commonly leads to “judgment calls, inconsistent results, and … disagreement among legal experts,” the CRC said on the Frequently Asked Questions section of its new website.

Accordingly, the organization’s rating system — which runs from 1 to 5, with 5 indicating an asset bears the hallmarks of a security and 1 meaning the opposite — is being hailed by members as a “compliance tool” that will help bring consistency to their respective asset review processes.

Founded by prominent companies across the crypto industry, our mission is to lead crypto financial services firms committed to practical compliance with the U.S. securities laws. We are the Crypto Rating Council, and we launched today: https://t.co/FbdwfSZN9D

— Crypto Rating Council (@CRC_Crypto) September 30, 2019

“The CRC will publish a simple rating for most assets it reviews to indicate the results of its analysis as a reference for operators, developers, and the public,” the organization said.

With that said, the ratings are utterly non-binding and have been made without involvement from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). So, while clarity is the professed goal, the only thing the CRC has ultimately made more clear is what its members think about the legal status of top cryptocurrencies in America.

“The score does not reflect a legal conclusion and is no indication of qualitative value of an asset or suitability for investment or any other purpose,” the CRC said of its ratings.

How the First Scores Look Don’t expect any surprises when it comes to bitcoin (BTC). The oldest cryptocurrency, which has long been held up by various stakeholders as a standard for decentralized projects, received a 1 rating from the CRC.

Other projects the body deemed to have “few or no characteristics consistent with treatment as a security” included DeFi’s darling Dai stablecoin, the popular Monero (XMR) privacy cryptocurrency, and Litecoin (LTC).

The 2 rating was given to the next rung of projects that the CRC deemed to seem mostly decentralized according to its framework. These projects included Ethereum (ETH), Zcash (ZEC), Numeraire (NMR), ChainLink (LINK), and the fledgling proof-of-stake project Algorand (ALGO).

Getting on up there according to the group were projects like Augur (3.75), EOS (3.75), Stellar (3.75), Tezos (3.75), and XRP (4). The highest inaugural scores were given to Polymath (4.5) and Maker (4.5).

Notably, the SEC announced just hours after these ratings were released that Block.one, the team behind the EOS launch, had settled charges and would pay a $24 million civil penalty for its year-long ICO being an unregistered security offering.

The Commission said the securities status only applied to the “IOU” ERC20 token that was issued during the sale rather than the current EOS cryptocurrency, which lives on EOS now rather than Ethereum.

Are Exchanges Listing Securities? One question that immediately started buzzing through the ecosystem on the heels of the announcement of the CRC was why would exchanges like Coinbase take chances on assets like XRP that appear to bear considerable resemblances to a security in the U.S.?

One possibility is that the group’s members consider “security status is binary,” according to Jake Chervinsky, the General Counsel of DeFi lending project Compound Finance. In other words, anything less than a 5 rating would be fair game accordingly.

My best guess: they'd say security status is binary and as a matter of law it doesn't make a difference how close a token comes to being a security if it's ultimately not one.

On that logic, though, query the value of publishing the five-point score in the first place.

— Jake Chervinsky (@jchervinsky) September 30, 2019

But even if the already rated cryptocurrencies later end up being cleared as “not securities” per the SEC, the CRC rating system can lead to future conflicts of interest, e.g. member exchanges being charitable in their ratings because they stand to gain from trade volume.

In my opinion, this rating system creates a massive conflict of interest. All of the companies that joined this consortium are massively incentivized to rate the vast majority of tokens as non-securities. Coinbase listed some very questionable tokens including XRP, Tezos, EOS

— Larry Cermak (@lawmaster) September 30, 2019

But there’s a silver lining here, according to Blockchain chief executive officer and president Marco Santori. In a Twitter thread on the CRC announcement, Santori said the effort was suspect in some ways but was also a positive attempt at self-regulation in an industry that needs more regulatory clarity in general.

8/ So why on earth would they publish this? Why on earth should we applaud their effort?

Well, actually we should.

As an industry, this stuff is basically the best we've got.

THAT'S RIGHT ITS A TWIST

wait hear me out.

Ethereum “Money Lego” Compound Secures $25 Million Series A
BTC Bitcoin ETH Ethereum MKR Maker SAI Sai
CoinGecko News
Original source text
Compound, the builders behind one of the most popular decentralized finance apps on Ethereum, just raised an impressive $25 million war chest in a Series A fundraising round that was backed by some of the cryptocurrency arena’s biggest investors.

Revealed on November 14th, the Series A raise saw venture capital firms like Andreesen Horowitz (a16z), Polychain Capital, Paradigm, and Bain Capital Ventures, throw a new round of chips behind the promise of the DeFi app’s future and growing ecosystem. a16z was the raise’s largest investor, although at an unspecified sum.

With the new funding secured, Compound chief executive officer Robert Leshner told Fortune that the name of the name going forward will be making the project’s crypto lending services readily usable by mainstream, non-tech users. As a step in that direction, Leshner said the DeFi protocol will be integrated with other major cryptocurrency companies, e.g. Coinbase, by the end of next year .

And while the Compound team is the main driving force behind its associated dApp, the company plans to continue phasing out their direct stewardship in favor of a more decentralized governance process. To that end, Leshner said:

“As with Bitcoin, we want to ensure that no one, including the company that built it, can exert undue influence on Compound’s protocol. Corporations come and go but we want to build a protocol that lasts forever.”

Of course, lasting forever is a big aim; but that Compound will last a long time already seems clear considering all the other rising Ethereum DeFi “money lego” projects that are currently relying on Compound’s open infrastructure.

Take the example of InstaDapp, which recently raised its own seed round of $2.4 million on the appeal of its automated “bridge” for crypto lenders wanting to move positions between Compound and Maker and vice versa. For context, both Maker and Compound are currently in the top three DeFi projects per value locked within their protocols according to tracker site DeFi Pulse.

a16z: a Big DeFi Believer Both in word and in deed, powerhouse private venture capital firm a16z has been betting big on DeFi.

First, the firm made waves last fall when its crypto arm conducted a “strategic purchase” of MakerDAO’s MKR governance token, which is used to guide the growth of the popular Dai stablecoin. In spending $15 million on the acquisition, a16z bought up six percent of the entire MKR supply at the time.

The VC firm also created a buzz last month when it bought up $235,000 worth of SNX, the associated token of Synthetix, another current top 3 DeFi project per DeFi Pulse that lets users create synthetic assets on Ethereum.

Now with a16z’s investment in the Compound team, the company has completed the “skin in the game” trifecta where decentralized finance’s biggest fledgling projects are concerned. On the news of Compound’s Series A raise, general partner Chris Dixon hailed the project as poised to achieve:

“Compound is a lending protocol that is open to anyone in the world, that disintermediates banks and allows anyone to earn interest on their money. We’ve worked with Robert [Leshner] and his team for over two years and think they are world class technologists and entrepreneurs.”

But a16z isn’t just content to back the promising DeFi projects of today, as the firm is also interested in fostering the next waves of innovation in the sector. Last week, the company unveiled its new Crypto Startup School (CSS), a seven week educational program for crypto startup founders.

“We think that sharing the most important lessons we’ve learned could accelerate the development of existing projects, and inspire more talented people to join the space,” Chris Dixon said of the program.

Solana (SOL), one of the leading cryptocurrencies by market cap, has recently shown signs of a potential price recovery after a bearish performance in August.

The asset, which experienced nearly a 10% decline in the past week, has started to regain momentum as it entered September. Solana has risen from a recent low of $124 to above $134 in early trading hours today, showing a 2.7% increase in the last 24 hours, now trading at $132.

Amid this recovery, renowned crypto analyst Javon Marks has recently maintained a bullish outlook on Solana, with a long-standing target of $233.8 for the asset.

Why Is A $233 Target in Sight For Solana? According to Marks, Solana has shown signs of a continued upward trend, with its price potentially rising to $233.8 and even higher if momentum continues.

The analyst’s projection for SOL reaching this mark and beyond is based on a hidden bullish divergence pattern, which SOL has been trading within for quite a while now.

Solana’s price chart. | Source: Javon Marks on X Marks particularly noted in the prediction post on X:

Our $233.8 Target for SOL (Solana) has been maintained since mid 2023 at $16.12, with prices seeing an approximately 1,203% climb afterwards towards the meeting of it. Now, with the pullback just under, this target goes unchanged as the breakout bringing it in play, continues to hold, and with bullish signals coming in, a nearly +72% climb to finish that process of meeting it could be in development.

The analyst further suggested that if Solana breaks past this $233.8 price level, it could see a further rise towards $457, representing an additional 93% increase.

SOL Breakpoint Approaches In addition to the price outlook from Javon Marks, other analysts have weighed in on Solana’s potential price movements, particularly around the upcoming SOL Breakpoint event.

Crypto analyst Marty Party, responding to a post by another analyst named Sai on X, pointed out that historically, Solana’s price has seen significant gains leading up to this event.

Marty Party noted: “Solana Breakpoint pump average is 62%. With SOL currently trading at $133, a 62% increase could push it to $215.46.”

Sai’s post highlighted Solana’s price behavior before previous Breakpoint events. In 2021, Solana saw a 68% price surge leading up to the conference, followed by a 42% rise in 2022 and a 58% increase in 2023.

The Breakpoint event, which showcases the Solana ecosystem’s innovation and development, has historically attracted attention from investors, contributing to the pre-event price rallies.

#Solana Breakpoint in 16 days. Do you know how the Solana price behaves before the breakpoint?

68% price surge in 2021 before Breakpoint
42% price surge in 2022 before Breakpoint
58% Price surge in 2023 before Breakpoint

Follow the 🧵Thread 🧵 to make sure you don’t miss 2024…

— Sai (@SaiPrathap846) September 4, 2024

This year, the Breakpoint event will take place on September 20th in Singapore, and excitement is already building in the Solana community.

With only 16 days to go, analysts like Sai anticipate a potential rally similar to previous years. Whether Solana can replicate its past price surges remains to be seen, but historical data and bullish technical signals suggest the possibility of significant upward movement.

Thai Police Arrest Chinese Suspect in $6.1 Million Bitcoin Fraud Case
BTC Bitcoin SAI Sai
CoinGecko News
Original source text
In brief Thai police arrested Chinese national Tianwei at Don Mueang Airport on June 12 for allegedly stealing $6.15 million in Bitcoin. The arrest followed an April complaint and a May 16 warrant after Tianwei vanished from a business deal in Chiang Rai. It’s the latest in a series of Asian crypto fraud busts, including major cases in Vietnam and India. Thai immigration police arrested a Chinese fugitive at Don Mueang Airport Thursday morning as he attempted to flee to Singapore, ending a manhunt connected to millions in stolen Bitcoin.

The man, Tianwei, was arrested at 6 a.m. local time (7 p.m. ET) on Thursday at the international departure terminal as he attempted to board Lion Air flight SL100, according to a report by local news outlet Khaosod English.

The airport intercept ended a month-long manhunt that began when two Chinese victims reported losing $6.15 million (200 million baht) in Bitcoin to the suspect after a business meeting in Mae Sai district.

Chiang Rai Provincial Court issued the arrest warrant on May 16. Intelligence reports indicated Tianwei would attempt to flee the country, prompting authorities to alert Don Mueang immigration officers.

The suspect reportedly communicated in English during his arrest. Sergeant Suwaphan Utsaha, commander of the Don Mueang Immigration checkpoint, served as an interpreter to inform him of his rights and the charges against him.

Tianwei confirmed his identity and told officers he had never been arrested in this case before.

Thailand's notoriously tough stance on foreign fraud suspects means Tianwei faces a grim future, according to Archer Wolfe, founder of the crypto consultancy firm MohrWolfe and a former resident of Thailand.

"It's no surprise that Thai immigration continues cracking down on fraud amongst foreigners—they're famous for their hardcore measures," Wolfe told Decrypt. "However, once they're suspicious of you, and you get caught, they will dissect your entire life, starting with your smartphone and every conversation you have in it."

Wolfe predicted harsh consequences, saying that the suspect "is going to be extradited back to China" and "the Thai government is then going to keep that Bitcoin unless an exorbitant fee is paid and simply close the book."

Crypto crackdown in AsiaThe arrest comes amid a regional crackdown on crypto fraud that has netted hundreds of millions in seized assets across Asia.

India's Central Bureau of Investigation arrested Delhi resident Rahul Arora on Tuesday and seized over $327,000 in crypto from a cybercrime operation targeting U.S. and Canadian victims through caller ID spoofing and social engineering.

Last month, Vietnamese authorities dismantled the Matrix Chain pyramid scheme after a 200-day investigation, arresting five suspects accused of defrauding 185,000 victims out of nearly $400 million.

In February, Thai and Chinese police teamed up to arrest two Chinese nationals and seize $2.5 million worth of Tether's USDT stablecoin from a large-scale scam operation.

Sai today launched Sai Perps, a perpetuals trading platform built to be as fast and intuitive as a centralized exchange with the transparency and self-custody of onchain settlement. The platform features gasless transactions, removing friction for traders while maintaining full onchain security.

Sai also unveiled Let’s Go Saicho, a one-month onchain trading competition running February 18 through March 19, 2026, with $25,000 in total prizes. The campaign is structured in two phases designed to reward both performance and participation: a PNL competition for profitable traders, followed by a first-come, first-serve “Be Early” phase for traders who engage early and hit a minimum volume threshold.

“Onchain markets shouldn’t require traders to compromise between speed and self-custody,” said Matthias Darblade, a Sai contributor. “Sai Perps is designed for active traders who want a clean, CEX-like experience, while still getting the transparency and settlement guarantees that only onchain infrastructure can provide.”

Why Sai vs. Other Perps DEXs

Sai Perps is built around the premise: trading should be accessible without the usual friction of onchain perps. Compared to existing perpDEXs, Sai stands out in many ways:

CEX-like UX, onchain settlement: A streamlined trading experience designed to be fast and familiar, with trades settling onchain for transparency and verifiability. Infrastructure built for deep, smooth markets: Sai has focused heavily on liquidity, risk systems, and oracle design to support more consistent execution and robust market integrity. Accessible to both new and experienced traders: A platform experience optimized for speed and clarity, without sacrificing advanced trading capability. Roadmap beyond crypto perps: Sai’s planned expansion includes stocks, commodities, and FX markets, plus user-focused capital efficiency features like Sai Savings (yield on deposits), and cross-chain deposits. Let’s Go Saicho: $25,000 Trading Competition (Feb 18 – Mar 19, 2026)

Let’s Go Saicho is a one-month competition rewarding trading on Sai across two two-week phases:

Phase 1 (Feb 18 – Mar 4): PNL Competition | $20,000 prize pool, 50 winners Phase 2 (Mar 5 – Mar 19): Be Early (First Come First Serve) | $5,000 prize pool, 50 winners All markets listed on Sai are eligible in both phases. Traders may go long or short on any listed pair using supported collateral (e.g., USDC and other supported assets such as stNIBI, as available on Sai). For more details on Sai’s Trading Competition, visit here.

About Sai

Sai is a new perpetuals trading platform designed to feel as easy and fast as a centralized exchange, while still settling fully onchain. Sai’s mission is to make advanced trading accessible without sacrificing transparency or self-custody.

DECRYPT: Sai's New Perps DEX Offers 'Clean, CEX-like Experience' With Onchain Settlement
SAI Sai
CoinGecko News
Original source text
In brief Sai has announced the launch of Sai Perps, a perpetuals trading platform. The platform is designed to offer a "clean, CEX-like experience," with onchain settlement providing transparency and settlement guarantees. Sai Perps launches alongside Let’s Go Saicho, a one-month onchain trading competition with a $25,000 prize pool. Sai has announced the launch of Sai Perps, a perpetuals trading platform designed to combine the accessibility of centralized exchanges with the transparency and self-custody of onchain settlement. The platform features gasless transactions, which Sai claims removes friction for traders while maintaining full onchain security.

“Onchain markets shouldn’t require traders to compromise between speed and self-custody,” Sai contributor Matthias Darblade said in a statement shared with Decrypt. “Sai Perps is designed for active traders who want a clean, CEX-like experience, while still getting the transparency and settlement guarantees that only onchain infrastructure can provide.”

Sai Perps offers a “streamlined trading experience” built atop smart contract ecosystem Nibiru, with onchain infrastructure that focuses on liquidity, risk systems and oracle design. Sai’s oracle settled pricing reflects global markets, which it claims reduces scam wicks and “makes Sai feel like a low slippage DEX even when liquidity appears light.”

Flexible collateral enables capital to be reused across positions, while Sai’s single asset vaults enable users to earn a share of fees without managing pairs, with collateral deposits of USDC or Nibiru’s Liquid Staked NIBI (stNIBI) token.

Let’s Go SaichoTo accompany the launch of Sai Perps, Sai has unveiled Let’s Go Saicho, a one-month onchain trading competition with a $25,000 prize pool. The competition kicks off with a PNL contest for profitable traders, running from February 182 to March 4, with 50 winners sharing a $20,000 prize pool.

The wait is over. Sai is live.

Starting today, trade 25+ markets including BTC, ETH, SOL and more, all on a seamless interface with fully onchain, transparent execution.

And yes, it’s gasless.

It’s followed by a first-come, first-serve “Be Early” phase running from March 5 to March 19, which rewards traders who “engage early and hit a minimum volume threshold.” The second phase of the contest will see 50 winners sharing a $5,000 prize pool.

Following the launch of Sai Perps, Sai’s future roadmap includes stocks, commodities and FX markets, along with cross-chain deposits and Sai Savings, a yield on deposits feature.

Ethereum Ecosystem Booming: Eyes Slew of New Toys This Week
AST AirSwap BTC Bitcoin ETH Ethereum GNO Gnosis SAI Sai

This week, the various corners of the Ethereum ecosystem have been filled with a particularly lively flurry of activity.

First up, there’s MAD Stores — think “Mutually Assured Destruction.” Created by Ethereum developer Alejandro Diaz and announced on Wednesday, Turms MAD Stores is an anonymous and decentralized marketplace that leverages Ethereum smart contracts  in order to avoid needing a backend server at all.

In the reveal, Diaz characterized the marketplace as akin to a “completely decentralized” and more private version of eBay:

“Another difference between ebay and MAD Stores is that sellers can remain anonymous, or at least pseudonymous; that is, buyers and sellers are only known by their Ethereum addresses (or ENS names).”

Those making deals can use the relatively new Turms Anonymous Message Transport system, another project Diaz has worked on. Turms AMT can make encrypted comms between Ethereum addresses.

Moreover, the MAD smart contracts provide escrow functionalities, a product category ledger, and the ability to record a seller’s inventory and information about it.

Buyers and sellers are protected according to the aforementioned principle of Mutually Assured Destruction. If a party on either side of a deal tries to scam the other, both users’ escrowed funds will be burned.

Another Ethereum Mixer Steps Up to the Plate Various mixers have been proposed in the Ethereum ecosystem recently (e.g. Heiswap), and the latest oncomer is the Tornado mixer, which is backed by the zk-SNARKS privacy tech — also known as “Zero-Knowledge Succinct Non-Interactive Argument of Knowledge” transactions.

https://twitter.com/rstormsf/status/1154148852993183745

The mixer is notably non-custodial, meaning users can facilitate private Ethereum-based trades right from the comfort of an address of choice rather than having to first deposit ether (ETH) onto a centralized exchange.

The Tornado mixer was just released on the Kovan testnet, so it’s not ready for a production environment status just yet. But its progress is heartening for many Ethereum community stakeholders who have been lobbying for solid mixer resources in recent times.

Pooled cDAI Built to Help Ethereum Funding For the past few weeks, EthHub co-founder and Gnosis team member Eric Conner has floated the idea of launching a pooled fund comprised of the Dai stablecoin, the interest of which could be put toward Ethereum development activities while at the same time allowing investors to pull out their principal investments when all was said and done.

Now, an early example of that model has officially been put forth in the Pooled cDAI project. As the effort’s GitHub explains, it does the following activities:

“[…] Pools DAI, converts it into Compound DAI, and sends interests to a beneficiary. Users putting DAI into the pool receives Pooled cDAI (pcDAI), an ERC20 token which is 1-for-1 redeemable for DAI at any time.”

Introducing Pooled cDAI, an ERC20 token template allowing people to pool DAI together, lock the DAI into @compoundfinance , and send the interests to a beneficiary. Locked DAI can be withdrawn *at any time*. Kinda like generalized @PoolTogether_ . #DeFi https://t.co/jX6ZAANhdf

— zefram.eth (@boredGenius) July 25, 2019

Chalk it up as another novel open-source development funding avenue that could be explored by all sorts of entities in the cryptoeconomy, not least of which are Ethereum stakeholders looking to boost development prospects in the blockchain’s ecosystem.

Wow! Someone already built the community interest fund idea.

I love this community. https://t.co/owmaeSyT50

— eric.eth (@econoar) July 25, 2019

Speaking of the Dai stablecoin, it’s also worth mentioning that the MakerDAO team that oversees the dual MKR-DAI ecosystem has opened up a bug bounty campaign for the coming Multi-Collateral Dai offering, which will ultimately allow users to take out collateralized debt positions (CDPs) using assets beyond ether.

You all know what this means… soon™️ https://t.co/6kVa7G3rLk

— DeFi Pulse (@defipulse) July 25, 2019

Real World, Off-Chain Assets to Underpin Maker CDPs? Speaking of opening up CDPs with assets beyond ether, what about doing so with off-chain assets like physical property?

That’s what Fluidity — the builders of the AirSwap crypto exchange — are planning with their Tokenized Asset Portfolio roadmap.

Today @fluidityio introduced the Tokenized Asset Portfolio (TAP) —

A model enabling real world assets to be pledged as collateral in decentralized credit facilities —

Including the MakerDAO multi-collateral Dai system cc @makerdao $dai #ethereumhttps://t.co/0wgHQaQ5dD

— Michael Oved (@ovedm606) July 25, 2019

Reasonable people can agree or disagree as to whether off-chain assets being used to secure Dai loans is a shrewd idea, but what’s clear is that the DeFi horizon is growing day by day.
