[PRESS RELEASE – Zug, Switzerland, March 14th, 2024]

QANplatform has announced that its quantum-resistant technology is being used for the first time by an EU country in the public sector. QANplatform’s technology protects government-owned cybersecurity infrastructure against quantum computing attacks.

The announcement was made in Zug, Switzerland, with Johann Polecsak, Co-Founder and CTO of QANplatform, and QAN’s Intellectual Property (IP) holding company led by CEO Patrick Storchenegger. The partners are developing and implementing post-quantum cybersecurity (PQC) solutions based on the QAN blockchain platform’s post-quantum feature. It aligns with the NIST’s (US National Institute of Standards and Technology) quantum-resistant recommendations. The partners are implementing these PQC solutions into enterprise software.

Image: Patrick Storchenegger and Johann Polecsak Please download the images from SOURCE for better quality Patrick Storchenegger said: “We are proud of the successful integration of QAN’s unique technology by our partner, now utilized as a key component in its software as a post-quantum cybersecurity layer. This will enhance the country’s strategic advantage in navigating the quantum leap by securing its operations.”

Johann Polecsak added: “We must always be ahead of the curve when it comes to cybersecurity, especially in the era of ‘Store now, decrypt later’. It is only a matter of time until quantum computers can break today’s security algorithms. Recognizing this, we have built QANplatform from ground up to be immune against quantum computer attacks.”

Store now, decrypt later (SNDL) also known as harvest now, decrypt later (HNDL), is a cybersecurity threat that involves attackers collecting encrypted data with the intention of decrypting it later using more powerful computing methods, such as quantum computers.

The past year has seen a dramatic improvement in quantum computing capabilities, marked by IBM’s Condor, the 1000+ qubit power-machine. The US White House has released its National Cybersecurity Strategy, emphasizing post-quantum cybersecurity as a key pillar, and in January 2024, NATO and the World Economic Forum also released strategies to prepare for the quantum era.

The EU is anxious not to fall behind in the quantum race against its global competitors. To meet this challenge, the Quantum Technologies Flagship was launched in 2018 with a €1 billion budget. The race between quantum technology and the development of cybersecurity countermeasures has made it imperative for the public sector to take proactive measures to address these security challenges.

Note: For national security reasons, the name of the EU country described in this release cannot be disclosed, nor can specific details about the exact use case.

About QANplatform: QANplatform is the quantum-resistant hybrid blockchain platform that allows developers and enterprises to build quantum-resistant smart contracts and web3 solutions on top of the QAN blockchain platform in any programming language. Alpine Esports, a Group Renault brand, and inter alia in the Formula 1 Esports Series signed QANplatform as its Official Blockchain Partner. QANplatform was selected for the EY (Ernst & Young) Global Startup Academy 2023 Program, and backed by Qatar’s MBK Holding.

European Nation Adopts Quantum-Resistant Technology from QANplatform
QANX QANplatform
CoinGecko News
Original source text
QANplatform’s quantum-resistant technology has been adopted by the first European country. The technology is being used to protect the state-owned cybersecurity infrastructure from quantum computing attacks. The quantum-resistant blockchain allows developers to create smart contracts and applications resistant to quantum attacks. The name of the adopting country has not been disclosed for national security reasons.

European Commission and CybersecurityQAN’s Intellectual Property holding company CEO, Patrick Storchenegger, states that the integration of QAN roll-up will serve as a key component in the country’s post-quantum cybersecurity layer. Post-quantum security has seen increasing interest since December 2023, following the release of IBM Condor, the second-largest quantum processor, with 1,121 qubits.

Aware of the impending threat of quantum computers, the European Commission launched the Quantum Flagship initiative in 2018, a research endeavor with a budget of at least 1 billion euros over 10 years.

Major companies are also preparing for a post-quantum future. Apple released an update in February aiming to future-proof iMessages with post-quantum cryptography, placing Apple at the forefront of quantum-resistant messaging providers. Signal launched a quantum-resistant encryption upgrade in September 2023, but Apple claims it was the first to achieve level 3 encryption.

While breaking current messaging encryption models is still not feasible due to the time and computational power required, the advancement of quantum computers will eventually make it possible. According to Johann Polecsak, co-founder and CTO of QANplatform, staying ahead of the quantum computing curve in cybersecurity protocols is crucial. Polecsak made the following statement:

“When it comes to cybersecurity, especially in the age of ‘store now, decrypt later,’ we must always be ahead of the curve. The day when quantum computers will break today’s security algorithms is just a matter of time. With this awareness, we built QANplatform from the ground up to be immune to quantum computer attacks.”

In December 2023, QANplatform received an investment of 15 million dollars from MBK Holding and will use these funds to develop quantum-resistant technology roll-ups.

QANplatform Launches First Quantum-Resistant Blockchain Test Network

QANplatform, Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible, launched the world’s first quantum-resistant blockchain test network, enabling the development of quantum-resistant smart contracts. According to an announcement shared by QANplatform, the new test network will allow developers to write smart contracts using any programming language. Speaking about the process, QANplatform co-founder and CTO Johann Polecsak indicated that this points to the first EVM-compatible test network with quantum-resistant cybersecurity.

What to Expect in the Quantum Field?Since the release of IBM Condor, the second-largest quantum processor with 1,121 qubits in December 2023, post-quantum security has become an urgent concern. Polecsak explained that due to their inherently decentralized nature, most of the top blockchain networks like Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Solana could not adopt quantum-resistant security measures without significant negative impact:

“Blockchain networks will backfire in the post-quantum transition because it will be impossible to say whether legitimate owners transferred funds and data or hackers stole it all. In such cases, billions of dollars worth of data could instantly devalue the affected blockchain networks as it begins to be transferred on behalf of the real owners by hackers.”

However, the new QANplatform test network will allow testing of transition processes to a quantum-resistant alternative for EVM-compatible protocols without risking user funds on the main network. The announcement of the test network came about two months after the first European country adopted QANplatform’s quantum-resistant technology in March. The technology solution provides protection against quantum computing attacks aimed at government cybersecurity infrastructure.

Quantum-Resistant TechnologiesGovernments worldwide are already preparing for the post-quantum era, and the European Commission launched the Quantum Flagship research initiative in 2018 with a budget of at least 1 billion euros over a 10-year period. According to Polecsak from QANplatform, considering that quantum computing already poses a significant security threat to everyday internet users, these efforts are justified:

“Quantum-resistant technology is already important today due to the ‘store now, decrypt later’ cybersecurity threat, which involves attackers collecting encrypted data to decrypt later using more powerful computing methods like quantum computers.”

Major companies are also preparing for the post-quantum future. Apple, announced a new update in February aimed at making iMessages quantum-resistant, positioning Apple as a leader among quantum messaging providers.
