Micron (MU - Free Report) has been one of the most searched-for stocks on Zacks.com lately. So, you might want to look at some of the facts that could shape the stock's performance in the near term.

Over the past month, shares of this chipmaker have returned -4.7%, compared to the Zacks S&P 500 composite's +1.4% change. During this period, the Zacks Computer - Integrated Systems industry, which Micron falls in, has gained 2.9%. The key question now is: What could be the stock's future direction?

Although media reports or rumors about a significant change in a company's business prospects usually cause its stock to trend and lead to an immediate price change, there are always certain fundamental factors that ultimately drive the buy-and-hold decision.

Revisions to Earnings EstimatesRather than focusing on anything else, we at Zacks prioritize evaluating the change in a company's earnings projection. This is because we believe the fair value for its stock is determined by the present value of its future stream of earnings.

We essentially look at how sell-side analysts covering the stock are revising their earnings estimates to reflect the impact of the latest business trends. And if earnings estimates go up for a company, the fair value for its stock goes up. A higher fair value than the current market price drives investors' interest in buying the stock, leading to its price moving higher. This is why empirical research shows a strong correlation between trends in earnings estimate revisions and near-term stock price movements.

Micron is expected to post earnings of $38.20 per share for the current quarter, representing a year-over-year change of +699.2%. Over the last 30 days, the Zacks Consensus Estimate has changed +9.8%.

For the current fiscal year, the consensus earnings estimate of $177.73 points to a change of +135.3% from the prior year. Over the last 30 days, this estimate has changed +12%.

For the next fiscal year, the consensus earnings estimate of $211.82 indicates a change of +19.2% from what Micron is expected to report a year ago. Over the past month, the estimate has changed +11.9%.

With an impressive externally audited track record, our proprietary stock rating tool -- the Zacks Rank -- is a more conclusive indicator of a stock's near-term price performance, as it effectively harnesses the power of earnings estimate revisions. The size of the recent change in the consensus estimate, along with three other factors related to earnings estimates, has resulted in a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) for Micron.

The chart below shows the evolution of the company's forward 12-month consensus EPS estimate:

12 Month EPS

Revenue Growth ForecastWhile earnings growth is arguably the most superior indicator of a company's financial health, nothing happens as such if a business isn't able to grow its revenues. After all, it's nearly impossible for a company to increase its earnings for an extended period without increasing its revenues. So, it's important to know a company's potential revenue growth.

For Micron, the consensus sales estimate for the current quarter of $61.76 billion indicates a year-over-year change of +352.7%. For the current and next fiscal years, $275.11 billion and $332.98 billion estimates indicate +106.6% and +21% changes, respectively.

Last Reported Results and Surprise HistoryMicron reported revenues of $54.23 billion in the last reported quarter, representing a year-over-year change of +379.3%. EPS of $33.42 for the same period compares with $3.03 a year ago.

Compared to the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $51 billion, the reported revenues represent a surprise of +6.32%. The EPS surprise was +5.73%.

The company beat consensus EPS estimates in each of the trailing four quarters. The company topped consensus revenue estimates each time over this period.

ValuationWithout considering a stock's valuation, no investment decision can be efficient. In predicting a stock's future price performance, it's crucial to determine whether its current price correctly reflects the intrinsic value of the underlying business and the company's growth prospects.

While comparing the current values of a company's valuation multiples, such as price-to-earnings (P/E), price-to-sales (P/S), and price-to-cash flow (P/CF), with its own historical values helps determine whether its stock is fairly valued, overvalued, or undervalued, comparing the company relative to its peers on these parameters gives a good sense of the reasonability of the stock's price.

As part of the Zacks Style Scores system, the Zacks Value Style Score (which evaluates both traditional and unconventional valuation metrics) organizes stocks into five groups ranging from A to F (A is better than B; B is better than C; and so on), making it helpful in identifying whether a stock is overvalued, rightly valued, or temporarily undervalued.

Micron is graded B on this front, indicating that it is trading at a discount to its peers. Click here to see the values of some of the valuation metrics that have driven this grade.

ConclusionThe facts discussed here and much other information on Zacks.com might help determine whether or not it's worthwhile paying attention to the market buzz about Micron. However, its Zacks Rank #1 does suggest that it may outperform the broader market in the near term.

Micron (MU +1.87%) has been one of the biggest winners of the AI era.

Over the last year, the stock is up roughly 400%, and over the last three years, the stock has jumped 1,250%. Like other memory stocks, Micron has benefited from a shortage in memory chips, which has driven up prices and sent sector stocks soaring across the board. Among the winners are SK Hynix, Samsung, and Sandisk.

However, in recent months, some doubts have emerged about the memory boom. Micron stock peaked following its fiscal third-quarter earnings report and has struggled to return to that level, despite another blowout earnings report in September.

Micron's recent results are about as strong as any company in history. It just reported 379% revenue growth to $54.2 billion with an operating margin of 80.7%. Operating income jumped 1,100% to 43.8%.

Micron's operating income in its most recent quarter ranks above Apple, Alphabet, and Microsoft, and it's extraordinarily rare for any company to report an operating margin as high as 80%, meaning the company keeps four of every five dollars it earns in revenue, before interest and taxes. The spike in memory prices and surging demand are the primary reasons for those bumper results.

However, those numbers weren't enough to please investors, as the market is wary of the history of cyclicality in the memory sector, and they are betting that Micron's profits will come down significantly once the supply crunch eases.

The stock is now down 23% from its all-time high in June. Let's take a look at the stock's history to make an educated guess at what happens next.

What history says about Micron In recent history, Micron has a strong track record at bouncing back from sell-offs like the current one. As you can see from the chart below, five times in the last decade, Micron has fallen by more than 23%, and each time the stock has recovered to an all-time high or near one.

MU data by YCharts

Looking at that chart, you can see that it sometimes takes Micron years to recover from 30%, 40%, or 50%, but it always does. That period includes multiple cycles in the memory sector, including 2022-2023, when Micron was losing billions of dollars a year due to a glut.

However, taking a longer view of history, the results are less encouraging.

MU data by YCharts

As you can see, the stock plunged following its peak during the dot-com boom, and didn't return to that level for another 20 years. For much of that time, Micron stock was down 80% or even 90% from its previous peak.

According to traditional valuation metrics, the stock wasn't even that expensive during its dot-com rally. Its price-to-sales ratio was about 8, near where it is today. Micron's price-to-earnings ratio was higher than it is today, and its EPS peaked shortly after the stock peaked, trending lower as the tech sector went bust.

Is the past prologue? In investing, history can be informative, but it doesn't necessarily predict the future. Micron has gone through cycles before and seen prices fluctuate wildly, but some things are different now.

First, the company has locked in a significant percentage of its revenue through 2030 with strategic customer agreements, which should help buffer the downturn in the cycle when it comes.

Second, the AI boom still appears to be in its early stages. Future products like robotics will demand memory chips, and that, along with the growth of data centers, means that unit demand for memory has been forever changed. While prices will fluctuate, AI represents a sea change for the industry, which likely means the business won't return to pre-AI levels.

Third, Micron is betting on itself by investing $100 billion in a new megafab complex in upstate New York, which will be the largest chip manufacturing facility in the U.S. With supply constrained for at least the next couple of years, the new facility will put Micron in position to compete for growing memory demand as its competitors add capacity as well.

Micron has never grown this fast before or been this profitable, and the stock is also cheap at a forward P/E of less than 6. History won't tell us the shape of this cycle, though we know that Micron's prices and margins will eventually come down. Still, its strategic customer agreements and the growth of AI will support the long-term success of the business.

As Micron has done every time in the last decade, I expect it to recover from the current drawdown.

Micron Technology (MU +1.87%) just closed out one of the strangest, most extraordinary fiscal years a chipmaker has ever posted. Revenue in its fiscal 2026 hit $133.2 billion, up 256% from the year before, earnings soared almost tenfold from $7.59 per share to $74.33 per share, and the company went from an afterthought in most portfolios to a roughly $1.1 trillion megacap in the space of about 18 months.

I feel like I've spent the entire year checking this ticker, only to see the stock post consistently breathtaking gains. Before getting into what $2,000 invested in it today might look like in 2029, it's worth understanding exactly what this company is up to. Let's get into what's driving these numbers that large, because it isn't hype. It's a genuine, physical shortage of the memory chips that AI data centers need in growing amounts.

MU Micron Technology$931.24+$17.11 (+1.87%)

NASDAQ · As of 4:00 PM ET 10/15/26

What Micron actually reported this fall Micron's fiscal fourth-quarter results showed revenue of $54.23 billion, up 31% sequentially and 379% year over year. That marked the company's sixth consecutive quarterly revenue record. Non-GAAP earnings per share came in at $33.42, up from $3.03 in the prior-year period, and for the fiscal year, gross margin expanded to 81.1%, a 40-percentage-point jump from fiscal 2025. DRAM revenue alone topped $100 billion for the year, with fourth-quarter DRAM sales up 343% from a year earlier. Management is guiding for first-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue to land between $60 billion and $63 billion, meaning it expects the boom to keep accelerating.

This fall, the headline product news centers on HBM4, the latest-generation high-bandwidth memory that sits directly inside AI accelerators. Micron announced what it's calling the industry's first custom HBM4E implementation, developed specifically for Nvidia's (NVDA -1.84%) next-generation GPUs and NVLink Fusion platforms. The deal between them locks Micron into Nvidia's roadmap rather than leaving it to compete for generic orders. This is super bullish for Micron and a strong reason the stock has experienced gains of nearly 400% over the last year.

NVDA Nvidia$217.23-$4.07 (-1.84%)

NASDAQ · As of 4:00 PM ET 10/15/26

CEO Sanjay Mehrotra described a strong multiyear roadmap for future HBM products, and the company is simultaneously racing to build foundry capacity to keep up: It's pushing construction of a second fab in Idaho and broke ground on its first New York fab in January, part of a manufacturing build-out now backed by more than $6 billion in CHIPS Act funding.

Something to think about The memory chip business has always been brutally cyclical, and most of Micron's current numbers reflect price growth more than volume growth. DRAM and NAND contract prices have surged dramatically this year as Samsung, SK Hynix (SKHY -0.98%), and Micron -- the three largest players in the space by far -- all redirected production capacity toward high-margin HBM instead of ordinary memory, creating a supply squeeze that's pushed prices for all types of memory to levels this industry has never sustained for long.

All three are constructing new fab capacity, but that isn't expected to meaningfully ease the squeeze until 2027 or later. Historically, when that kind of production boost eventually arrives, supply catches up to demand and generally surpasses it, at which point prices fall hard. Whether this cycle breaks that pattern because the new demand driven by the AI trend is structurally different is the real question behind any 2029 prediction.

Math to consider Micron trades at around $950 a share today, down from an all-time high of $1,213 reached in June. In a bull case, I'd assume AI-driven memory demand stays structurally elevated through 2029, with revenue growing to around $190 billion and the market still willing to pay close to 8 times sales given Micron's locked-in HBM relationships. That implies a market cap near $1.5 trillion and a share price around $1,330, pushing that original $2,000 to roughly $2,690.

In a more conservative, historically grounded case, new supply from Micron's own expanding foundry operation and those of its competitors eventually catches up to demand sometime around 2028, memory prices normalize, and the company's revenue settles back closer to $100 billion with the multiple compressing to a more typical cyclical semiconductor level of around 5 times sales. That implies a market cap near $500 billion and a share price closer to $440, which would leave that initial $2,000 investment worth roughly $890.

Burry sází na pokles akcií Micronu
MU Micron Technology
FMP Stock News 90
Original source text
Michael Burry is one of the world's most famous investors. His bets against the U.S. housing market ahead of the subprime mortgage crisis proved to be massively successful, and were profiled in Michael Lewis' book The Big Short and the film of the same name. Burry's prescience regarding one of this century's defining financial crises is a testament to his analytical prowess, so it's little wonder that his analyses and opinions still carry weight in the financial world.

Notably, Burry is skeptical today about the valuations of some of the world's most high-profile artificial intelligence (AI) stocks -- and Micron (MU -0.26%) is one of the companies that he is betting against. Should Micron shareholders be worried?

Michael Burry. Image source: Getty Images.

Why is Burry bearish on Micron? At first glance, the case for Micron being an overvalued stock could look quite weak. The company is trading at just 5.4 times this year's expected earnings. Meanwhile, it has a one-year forward price-to-earnings ratio of roughly 4.6. The forward P/E ratio of the S&P 500 index sits somewhere around 19. Given that Micron is growing earnings at a far faster rate than the average for companies in the benchmark index, it's not unreasonable to suspect that the company is currently undervalued.

In the fourth quarter of Micron's fiscal 2026, which ended on Sept. 3, the company posted non-GAAP (adjusted) earnings per share (EPS) of $33.42, significantly exceeding the average analyst estimate of $31.61. Adjusted earnings per share rose 1,003% year over year, and sales rose 379% to $54.2 billion. Additionally, the company issued guidance that suggests that sales and earnings will continue growing at aggressive clips.

So why is Burry betting against Micron stock?

MU Micron Technology$911.80-$2.34 (-0.26%)

NASDAQ · As of 1:12 PM ET 10/15/26

The semiconductor industry has always had a high level of cyclicality, and the memory chip arena where Micron operates has historically been even more prone to wide cyclical shifts. The company and its peers are currently enjoying a massive surge in demand for the high bandwidth memory (HBM) chips used in artificial intelligence (AI) processors. The resulting deep shortage in memory has pushed prices and margins sharply higher. But Burry is betting that this supply-and-demand imbalance will follow its historically cyclical pattern and reverse, putting an end to Micron's explosive growth story.

Additionally, Burry has raised valuation risks connected to circular financing deals being used across the AI industry, as well as the rise of Chinese memory-chip makers that could dampen Micron's pricing power. With AI leaders devoting massive capital expenditures to build out their infrastructure foundations, and companies on both the hardware and software sides of the industry making business deals, partnerships, and equity investments with each other, he may be right to question the circular nature of this spending and the sustainability of massive capital expenditures. Similarly, the risk that a flood of cheaper memory chips from China could impair Micron's growth trajectory is real.

Burry's bet against Micron doesn't necessarily mean that investors should sell their holdings or refrain from buying the stock, but it would be a mistake not to consider the risk factors he is highlighting.

Wall Street analysts are chasing Micron with targets that leave our model cold, and the gap between their optimism and our measured call comes down to one overlooked risk lurking beneath record-breaking earnings.

Our 24/7 Wall St. price target for Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU | MU Price Prediction) is $1,059.58 over the next 12 months. With shares at $982.14 in Monday trading, that implies about 7.9% upside. Our call is hold, and our model carries a high confidence reading of 90%.

24/7 Wall St. Price Target Summary Metric Value Current Price $982.14 Price Target from 24/7 Wall St. $1,059.58 Upside/Downside 7.9% Recommendation HOLD Confidence Level 90% The Street’s targets run well above ours. The consensus analyst target of $1,555.13 implies roughly 58% upside, and 92% of covering analysts lean bullish. My model is more measured, and the reasons come down to where memory sits in its cycle.

China Competition Fears Hit a Stock Up Over 240% This Year Micron has fallen 8.63% over the past week and 4.44% over the past month, though it remains up 244.33% year to date. Monday’s 4.55% drop followed reports that Chinese rival CXMT is progressing a new chip (Barron’s). Shares now trade about 22% below the 52-week high of $1,254.81.

The fundamentals remain extraordinary. Fiscal Q4 revenue reached $54.23 billion, beating estimates of $50.97 billion, while non-GAAP EPS of $33.42 exceeded the $31.35 consensus. Guidance for fiscal Q1 calls for $61.50 billion in revenue and EPS of $38.15.

Why Bulls See $1,354 Ahead Management expects DRAM and NAND conditions to “remain tight beyond calendar 2027,” and HBM4 is now in high-volume shipments for the lead AI accelerator platform. The bigger story is the Strategic Customer Agreements.

Micron said 14 of its first 16 agreements carry roughly $100 billion in minimum-price revenue, with floor prices delivering margins above any prior cycle peak. If that visibility earns a higher multiple, our bull case reaches $1,354.11.

Cyclical History Still Matters Micron posted EPS of -1.91 as recently as fiscal Q2 2023, a reminder of how fast memory pricing can reverse. Capex hit $30.7 billion in fiscal 2026, and CXMT’s progress raises supply questions.

The bear case sits at $791.94. In fairness, that spending funds capacity backed by take-or-pay contracts, and fiscal Q4 free cash flow of $33.20 billion covers it well.

Micron Looks Cheap Next to SanDisk and NVIDIA SanDisk (NASDAQ:SNDK) offers the best pure-play NAND comparison. It trades at a forward P/E of 8x, slightly higher than Micron’s 7x, despite Micron’s added HBM exposure.

NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) drives much of Micron’s HBM demand. Its forward P/E of 25x and PEG of 0.479 compare with Micron’s PEG of 0.16. Our target looks conservative relative to both peers.

Company Forward P/E Analyst Target Micron 7x $1,555.13 SanDisk 8x $2,173 NVIDIA 25x $328.72 Micron Price Prediction 2026-2030 The 24/7 Wall St. price target of $1,059.58 supports a hold rating with 90% confidence. The deciding factor is cycle risk.

A more positive position would emerge if more agreements close and margins hold near guidance of 86.25%. I’d stay cautious if CXMT gains ground or pricing moderates. Micron is a high-quality business priced near fair value today.

Our model projects where Micron could trade at each year’s end, assuming current trends hold.

Year Price Target from 24/7 Wall St. 2026 $1,015.05 2027 $1,107.38 2028 $1,089.59 2029 $1,171.88 2030 $1,233.84 The projections rest on Micron continuing to execute on HBM and contract pricing. A faster AI expansion or a memory downturn could swing results sharply. Kapacity CXMT ohrožují marže Micronu
MU Micron Technology
FMP Stock News 92
Original source text
Micron Technology (MU -4.08%) has become a stock that retail investors love for its strong growth and cheap valuation, while institutional investors have grown increasingly cautious about its outlook. The latest investor to warn about Micron was Cathie Wood of Ark Investment Management, who said that while the current trend is up, memory cycles can be "viscous" and that increased competition from China could eventually upend the market.

If history is any guide, Micron could see its stock crash, and it could take decades to potentially recover.

Before its latest surge, Micron set its all-time high all the way back in the summer of 2000 before the dot-com bubble burst. The company saw soaring revenue and profits driven by a memory shortage that pushed up average selling prices. At the same time, demand for DRAM (dynamic random-access memory) was surging due to a huge PC cycle sparked by the end of Y2K, the internet, and the release of Windows 2000. NAND (flash) memory prices were also soaring due to rising demand for electronic devices and cellphones.

Back in early 2000, Micron's stock went parabolic before eventually crashing back to Earth, and it took roughly two decades for the stock to recover. In the end, it was just another example of the huge boom-and-bust cycles the stock and the industry has gone through over the years.

Micron stock has seen a similar parabolic rise this year, although it makes the 2000 surge look small in comparison. Thus, while the semiconductor stock appears extremely cheap based on near-term earnings, the question is whether this time will be different than memory cycles.

Is this memory cycle different? Micron is currently one of three big DRAM makers, along with Korean rivals Samsung and SK Hynix. Last quarter, it derived 73% of its revenue from DRAM and 26% from NAND. Together, these three companies control over 85% of the DRAM market.

In addition to the big three DRAM makers, Chinese company CXMT also produces DRAM, as does Taiwanese company Nanya. The NAND market, meanwhile, has more players, including Sandisk, Japanese company Kioxia, and Chinese company YMTC.

The memory cycle is currently being driven by high demand coming from the AI infrastructure build-out. AI chips, such as graphics processing units (GPUs), must be packaged with high bandwidth memory (HBM), a specialized form of DRAM, to reduce latency, while massive solid-state drives (SSDs) are needed to store training data. The big three memory makers, who have put most of their efforts and resources into HBM, have meanwhile caused conventional DRAM and NAND prices to skyrocket.

And this is what ultimately puts Micron and the whole memory trade at risk. While Micron is benefiting from huge HBM demand, conventional memory prices are what are driving the company's colossal revenue growth and gross margin expansion. By my estimate, Micron derives less than 10% of its revenue from HBM (an approximate 20% market share on a projected $54.6 billion market). This makes it very exposed to a pullback in ordinary DRAM and NAND prices.

While booming demand for HBM and memory companies signing longer-term contracts for the first time do make elements of the current memory cycle different than past ones, risks are also on the rise. CXMT has been increasing its DRAM capacity and taking market share, and it recently announced that it is making meaningful progress with more efficient chip designs. While it is very unlikely that any of its chips will be allowed in U.S. data centers, just increasing overall ordinary DRAM supply could have a big impact on conventional memory prices.

If increased DRAM and NAND supply, driven by increased capacity from China, leads to a big drop in conventional memory prices, I'd expect history to largely repeat itself, with Micron's stock crashing and never returning to prior highs. However, I don't think it will crash quite as far as in 2000, and that the company can remain profitable, unlike in past bust cycles. Still, I'd avoid this AI stock for now.

Micron just posted triple-digit revenue growth and now sits on a mountain of cash it plans to return to shareholders, yet the stock keeps sliding. What happens next depends on a single announcement in December.

Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU | MU Price Prediction) trades at $953.19. Management has indicated a major capital return push starting December 9, and the stock sits about 24% below its $1,254.81 52-week high.

Micron makes DRAM, NAND and high-bandwidth memory (HBM), the chips that feed AI accelerators. Fiscal fourth-quarter revenue reached $54.23 billion, up 379.3% year over year. Even so, shares fell 8.83% over the past week.

A $68 Billion Net Cash Pile Is About to Go to Work
Micron ended the quarter with $68.3 billion in net cash and generated $33.2 billion of free cash flow. The CFO said fiscal Q1 free cash flow should be “significantly higher than the 33 billion we reported in fiscal Q4,” and the company plans to return 100% of excess cash over time, mainly through buybacks.

The valuation is modest for this growth. Micron trades at a forward P/E of 7 with a PEG ratio of 0.16. Q1 guidance calls for $61.5 billion in revenue and EPS of $38.15. More than 75% of calendar 2027 output is already committed, with roughly $150 billion in remaining performance obligations.

Peak Margins Have Burned Memory Investors Before
Gross margin hit 87.0%, compared with 45.7% a year earlier. That is a cycle-peak profile in a historically cyclical industry. Management already expects price increases to moderate, and capex is rising fast: $30.71 billion in fiscal 2026 and about $25 billion in just the first half of fiscal 2027.

Buybacks so far have been small. Micron bought back $365 million of stock last quarter, and its current authorization is only $2.2 billion. Smart money is cooling, too. Among 19 tracked hedge fund filers, 10 trimmed positions in the June quarter. With a beta of 2.226, any hint of glut could weigh heavily on the shares.

New Authorization Size Remains an Open Question
The size of the coming buybacks authorization is still unknown, and fiscal Q1 is expected to be the gross margin floor near 86.25%. The stock trades below its $979.51 50-day moving average, so the authorization headline and Q1 results stand as the next catalysts to monitor.

Wall Street Sees 64% Upside After a 395% Run
The average analyst target is $1,560.57, meaning 63.7% upside across 49 analysts. Targets are estimates, and the consensus tends heavily positive:

Strong Buy: 9
Buy: 36
Hold: 3
Strong Sell: 1

Micron has gained 394.97% over the past year, against 17.35% for the S&P 500. Year to date, it is up 234.18% versus 14.1% for the index.

Buyback Firepower Could Reshape Micron’s Share Count
At $953.19, Micron’s bull case rests on capital returns and contracted demand.

December is the key month ahead. A larger authorization, paired with free cash flow that management expects to keep climbing, would turn a company worth about $1.078 trillion into a steady buyer of its own shares at a single-digit forward multiple.

The cyclical risk is real, but strategic customer agreements change it. Take-or-pay volumes and pricing floors support the CFO’s view that “even at floor prices, we expect margins meaningfully above any prior cycle peak margins.”

The thesis falls apart if the new authorization comes in small, if gross margins slip below the Q1 floor, or if HBM pricing for 2028 drops. Watch the authorization announcement first and the Q1 margin result second. The recent decline comes just before Micron’s planned capital return push.

Musk chválí ceny paměťových čipů Micron a kritizuje konkurenty
MU Micron Technology
FMP Stock News 85
Original source text
Elon Musk just called unnamed memory makers extortionate while praising Micron's pricing as a model for long-term loyalty, but the company's own contracts tell a more complicated story about who actually controls prices.

At 5:52 p.m. Eastern on October 13, 2026, Elon Musk, responding to Nicholas Mugalli, posted on X that Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU | MU Price Prediction) “has been reasonable regarding future memory prices, while others have been extortionate, which is something today’s customers won’t forget …” He named no company. No company was labeled extortionate. He added that Micron was making the smart move for long-term customer loyalty.

@RealNickMugalli Micron has been reasonable regarding future memory prices, while others have been extortionate, which is something today’s customers won’t forget …

Micron is making is the smart move for long-term customer loyalty.

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) October 13, 2026

Micron had closed the regular session at $953.19, down 3.62%, and after hours it rose only 0.32% to $956.20. The praise read as commentary, and that take looks right.

What Musk’s Post Actually Covers
Nothing in the post is signed. No supply agreement between Micron and any Musk company has been reported, and the post disclosed no prices, volumes, or contract terms.

Musk was responding to investor Nicholas Mugalli. His post summing up a JPMorgan Chase (NYSE:JPM) note said Micron holds 26 long-term deals covering 35%+ of revenue through 2030, $150 billion in contracted backlog, $32 billion in committed customer cash and over 75% of next year’s output already sold. Those figures came through a social post. They didn’t come from the note itself, but they line up with what Micron told investors on its September 30 earnings call.

Why the Contracts Matter More Than the Compliment
Selling output years ahead turns a cyclical commodity business into something closer to a contracted one. That shift explains much of the re-rating that raised Micron’s market value to $1.08 trillion, close to Berkshire Hathaway’s (NYSE:BRK-A, NYSE:BRK-B) $1.11 trillion.

Against guidance for fiscal first-quarter revenue of $61.5 billion ± $1.5 billion, one buyer’s goodwill doesn’t move the numbers. Musk also has a stake in the matter. His companies buy huge amounts of memory for AI computing and vehicles (we featured seven suppliers behind that same AI expansion, from power to cooling, in a free report you can grab here). When a buyer that size praises a supplier for gentle pricing, he is also negotiating in public.

Where the “Reasonable” Label Breaks Down
Micron posted an 87.0% non-GAAP gross margin (the share of revenue left after production costs) in the fiscal fourth quarter. Management said, “any new discussions on SCAs where pricing is involved are negotiated with higher pricing based on prevailing market conditions and outlook.”

The pricing bands limit both the downside and the upside. Three quarters of the expected contract revenue come with a set pricing framework, and most of those frameworks carry floor and ceiling prices. Ceilings cap the upside during a shortage, but the finance chief said: “even at floor prices, we expect margins meaningfully above any prior cycle peak margins.”

The bigger threat is supply, because before Musk posted, a Chinese memory maker flagged a denser chip design, which goes straight at the scarcity thesis for commodity DRAM. Micron fell 12.4% over four sessions from $1,088.00, and it now trades 24% below its $1,255.00 high even after a 234.18% gain this year.

What Investors Need to Weigh in Micron’s Contract Story
The pullback likely reflects worry about future Chinese supply, while Micron’s contracts are cash-backed take-or-pay agreements (the customer pays whether or not it takes delivery) that run into 2031. Musk’s post doesn’t change any contract already signed, and investors were right to shrug, since the pricing control he praised is narrower than it sounds because Micron is raising prices on new agreements.

Memory cycles can turn fast, and output sold forward at today’s prices may look cheap if the shortage gets worse while Chinese competition grows. Micron’s fiscal first-quarter report needs to land inside its $61.5 billion ± $1.5 billion range at roughly 86.25% gross margin. A miss on either number, or a close back below the $186.25 low that started this run, would prove this view wrong.

Micron Technology vyplatí dividendu 0,15 USD na akcii

Micron Technology (NASDAQ: MU) is preparing to pay its next quarterly dividend as the memory-chip maker faces renewed selling pressure and intensifying competition.

At press time, MU shares traded at around $953, down 3.6% on the day and approximately 6% over the past week.

MU one-week stock price chart. Source: Finbold
Micron declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.15 per share on September 30, 2026, with payment scheduled for October 29. Shareholders of record as of October 14 are eligible for the distribution, according to the company’s financial results.

At this rate, an investor holding 100 shares will receive $15 before taxes. The payment is unchanged from Micron’s previous quarterly dividend of $0.15 per share, distributed on July 21.

If the company maintains its current payout for four consecutive quarters, an investor holding 100 shares throughout the year would receive $60 annually.

However, the dividend remains small relative to the stock’s market price. At $953 per share, purchasing 100 shares would cost approximately $95,300. The $15 quarterly payment represents a return of roughly 0.016% on that investment, while the annualized dividend yield stands at about 0.06%.

Micron stock risks
Micron stock is also facing increased pressure amid concerns about competition in the memory-chip market, particularly following developments involving China’s ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT).

CXMT has advanced its denser dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) architecture and plans to launch a new server-memory product by the end of 2026, raising competition concerns as demand for AI infrastructure grows.

Notably, Micron supplies DRAM and NAND memory for data centers and consumer electronics, while its high-bandwidth memory (HBM) is critical for AI accelerators.

However, increased rival production could pressure memory prices and profit margins, challenging Micron’s pricing power.

MU stock fundamentals
Despite the recent decline, Micron’s fiscal 2026 results highlight strong growth, with revenue rising to $133.19 billion from $37.38 billion in fiscal 2025. Net income also climbed to $84.97 billion from $8.54 billion, according to the company’s financial results.

Stronger memory demand and pricing have supported Micron’s performance as data-center operators expand AI infrastructure.

However, rising manufacturing costs and increased industry capacity could pressure margins and threaten earnings growth.

Micron has also expanded its share repurchase authorization to $35.16 billion following a board decision on October 8, 2026.

The authorization includes approximately $2.16 billion remaining under the previous program, alongside additional capacity linked to the company’s capital-allocation plans. The buyback could support earnings per share by reducing the number of outstanding shares.

However, the authorization does not guarantee that Micron will repurchase the full amount. Actual purchases will depend on market conditions, available cash, and restrictions tied to government funding agreements.

Repurchases under the expanded authorization are scheduled to begin on December 9, 2026, subject to applicable restrictions.

Micron snížil závislost na jednotlivých zákaznících

Micron Technology (MU -3.62%) filed its annual report on Oct. 9, and it shows a shift in who buys the memory chipmaker's products. No customer accounted for 10% or more of revenue in fiscal 2026 (the 53 weeks ending Sept. 3, 2026). A year before, one customer made up 17% of sales.

Put another way, Micron's top buyer matters less to its results than it did a year ago. The shift came as revenue climbed 256% year over year to about $133 billion. And it comes with the stock off about 14% from its Oct. 7 close, at roughly $936 as of this writing.

Relying less on one buyer does lower a risk to shareholders. But I think the report also shows that Micron's bigger dependence is still there.

From 17% to below 10%The report doesn't name the customer. It just says the 17% customer's purchases in fiscal 2025 were mostly in the cloud memory business unit. This unit sells memory to big cloud computing companies, and high-bandwidth memory for artificial intelligence systems to all data center customers.

It's worth noting that no customer hit 10% of revenue in fiscal 2023, either. One did in fiscal 2024, at 10%, and one reached 17% the next year.

In dollars, 17% of fiscal 2025's $37.4 billion in revenue comes to around $6.4 billion from a single customer.

Did that customer buy less? The 17% customer likely didn't cut its spending.

Micron's quarterly report for its fiscal third quarter said one customer, again mostly in the cloud memory unit, made up 10% of revenue in the first nine months of fiscal 2026. Revenue in the nine months was around $79 billion, so the customer spent close to $8 billion.

The filings don't say directly that it's the same buyer. But if it is, it spent more with Micron in nine months than it did in all of fiscal 2025, and its share dropped only because everyone else's purchases grew faster.

Showing how broad the growth was, all four of Micron's business units more than tripled their revenue in fiscal 2026. The cloud memory unit's revenue climbed 219% to $43.1 billion. The core data center unit, which sells data center storage plus memory for server makers, grew 420% to $37.6 billion. Mobile and client revenue climbed 209% to $36.6 billion, and automotive and embedded revenue rose 234% to $15.9 billion. So the cloud memory unit's share of total revenue dipped to 32% from 36%, after jumping from 15% in fiscal 2024.

Micron still depends on a few big buyersMicron's top 10 customers provided over half of its revenue in fiscal 2026, just as they did the year before. And data centers accounted for around 60% of revenue, up from about half in fiscal 2025.

The top-10 number comes to an average of over $6.6 billion a customer -- more than the single biggest customer spent in fiscal 2025.

But I think the data center number is the concentration that matters most today. A decline in capital spending for data centers might cut orders from many of Micron's largest buyers all at once.

Plus, most of the year's growth came from price. Micron said average selling prices of DRAM, the memory chips that make up most of its sales, climbed around 180% in fiscal 2026, but the volume it shipped grew by a percentage in the mid-20s. Higher prices are also mainly why net income rose nearly tenfold, to about $85 billion.

True, Micron has tried to lock in demand. By its Sept. 30 earnings call, it had signed 26 multi-year deals that require customers to buy set volumes, backed by $32 billion of financial commitments. But it estimates those agreements cover over 35% of its revenue through 2030, which still leaves a big part of its sales outside them.

Investors might already see these risks. Micron's earnings per share grew to $74.33 in fiscal 2026 from $7.59 the year before, but the stock costs only around 13 times those earnings. With a price-to-earnings ratio so low after a year like that, investors seem to expect that profit could fall once memory prices do.

In the end, I'd call the customer change an improvement, though a small one. Micron is less exposed to any single buyer than it was a year ago. But it's arguably more exposed to data center spending and memory prices than it was, and they are still the biggest risks in the stock.

Klíčové pozice fondu Situational Awareness klesly až o 30 %

Patria Stock News 82
Original source text

Leopold Aschenbrenner's biggest positions are getting hit again
Here's what his top holdings done since October highs:
• SanDisk $SNDK: down 19%
• Bloom Energy $BE: down 6%
• Nebius $NBIS: down 11%
• CoreWeave $CRWV: down 13%
• Micron $MU: down 14%
• SharonAI $SHAZ: down 30%
SanDisk and Micron are 55% of the fund, per Q2 13F
In July, a drawdown like this triggered a forced sale of his book to Citadel

— Leopold Stock Tracker (@LeopoldTracker_) October 13, 2026

Micron (MU -3.62%) may be entering a new paradigm. The company operates in a cyclical industry, but Micron is taking steps to reduce its cyclicality over the next few years. This could transform Micron into a viable investment option and make it well worth buying stock in, as it looks ready to soar over the next few years.

But by how much? Let's take a look.

A few comments guide Micron's trajectory
There has been no shortage of estimates regarding the strength of the artificial intelligence build-out. Some projections come from its peers and clients in the industry, while others come from its own management. During Micron's latest quarterly earnings report, management noted that they expect the "supply demand conditions to be much tighter in FY 2027 and 2028 than they were during 2026." That's a notable statement, as 2026's conditions were pretty tight. This led to soaring memory chip prices in 2026, and it could lead to even more expensive chips in the future.

However, Micron isn't sitting idle. It's racing to build more production facilities and expects its Idaho fabrication facility to begin producing chips in mid-2027, with its second Idaho facility starting production in late 2028. However, Micron still projects that memory chips will be in short supply. So, if Micron can increase its output dramatically while maintaining today's high prices, it could lead to incredible growth for the company. But it's not done there.

Micron is starting to sign long-term customer agreements that are locking in floor and ceiling prices for memory chips through 2030. These are also take-or-pay agreements, so Micron is locking in revenue streams. Some of these agreements extend into 2031, indicating an even longer AI growth trajectory.

One long-term AI growth trajectory projection comes from Nvidia, which has repeatedly told investors to expect $3 trillion to $4 trillion in global AI data center capital expenditures annually by 2030. In 2026, Nvidia expects the big five AI hyperscalers to spend nearly $800 billion. If you estimate what others beyond the big five are spending, it's easy to see total capital expenditures sitting around $1 trillion this year.

So, the AI market could triple by 2030. This has huge implications for Micron, as its stock could be ready to skyrocket.

Micron is cheap and has huge growth
First off, Micron has hardly any growth priced into its stock for next year. It only trades at 5.6 times forward earnings.

MU PE Ratio (Forward) data by YCharts

The market is still pricing in a cyclical downturn in the near future, even though Micron has already told investors it won't happen anytime soon. This could lead to the stock at least tripling by the end of 2027, simply by rising to a reasonable valuation. Combine that with the AI market tripling to quadrupling as a whole by 2030, and there is a massive amount of upside baked into the stock.

So, how much could a $2,500 investment in Micron be worth by 2030? If all of the projections stated above come true, when Micron's fabrication facilities come online and start producing a large number of chips as expected, I think investors can expect the stock to grow more than 5-fold. How? First, Micron starts to trade at a reasonable 20 times earnings. I think this is somewhat realistic, as Micron has entered into long-term purchasing agreements with its clients that will reduce the effects of cyclical downturns. As a result, the market will give it a more respectable premium. That takes care of the stock rising about threefold to fourfold.

For the remainder of its growth, I'd point toward Nvidia's projection that data center capital expenditures will triple to quadruple by the time 2030 rolls around. That will mostly be from more computing chips needed, and every computing chip needs memory, potentially sourced from Micron. With that much growth ahead, I think it's pretty reasonable to expect Micron's business to double or triple. That would suggest a $2,500 investment in Micron could be worth $12,500, which makes the stock an absolute no-brainer buy at today's prices.

Micron is taking steps to ensure it isn't as cyclical, and this could make it a strong investment in the AI revolution.

Key Takeaways Micron's HBM4 ramp-up and higher contract prices could lift margins further amid robust AI memory demand.MU's Q4'26 gross margin hit 87%, while HBM4 production is ramping twice as fast as HBM3E.Micron secured most 2027 HBM supply deals at higher prices, potentially narrowing the margin gap with DRAM. Micron Technology, Inc. (MU - Free Report) is positioned to benefit from the rising demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) as AI companies build more powerful data centers. Its HBM4 ramp-up could support further margin growth if strong demand, higher prices and efficient production continue.

Micron’s fourth-quarter 2026 revenues jumped 379.3% year over year to $54.23 billion, while the full fiscal 2026 top line surged 256.3% to $133.19 billion. The fourth-quarter non-GAAP gross margin reached 87%, up from 45.7% in the year-ago quarter. The company’s full fiscal 2026 gross margin reached 81.1% from 41.1% in fiscal 2025, highlighting the benefits of favorable memory pricing and strong demand.

HBM is an important part of this opportunity. Micron reported that HBM revenues grew faster than total company revenues in the fourth quarter. It has also completed agreements covering most of its HBM bit supply for calendar year 2027, with significantly higher prices than the previous year. These agreements offer better revenue visibility and could help support profitability as shipments increase.

Micron’s HBM4 progress adds another growth opportunity. The company said its 12-high HBM4 production ramp-up is advancing twice as fast as the comparable HBM3E generation, and it has already shipped more than $1 billion in HBM4 revenues. Faster production growth and better manufacturing yields could help reduce costs and improve returns as volumes rise.

Pricing is another potential margin driver. Micron has secured most of its 2027 HBM supply agreements at significantly higher year-over-year prices. Management expects these prices to narrow the gross-margin gap between HBM and conventional DRAM. However, the actual benefit will depend on production costs, product yields and how quickly shipments increase.

Micron’s HBM4 ramp-up and higher contract prices provide a strong foundation for further margin improvement. Its 87% fourth-quarter gross margin already reflects favorable market conditions, but sustaining such high levels will depend on execution and continued AI spending. For the first quarter of fiscal 2027, Micron expects non-GAAP gross margin of approximately 86.25%.

How Do Rivals Fare Against Micron in AI Memory Space?Micron’s major competitors, SK hynix (SKHY - Free Report) and Sandisk Corporation (SNDK - Free Report) , are also benefiting from AI-led demand for memory and storage solutions.

SK hynix is one of Micron’s closest DRAM rivals and has a strong position in HBM, which is critical for AI accelerators. In the second quarter of 2026, SK hynix generated 79.3 trillion Korean won in revenues, up 257% year over year, while operating profit surged 557% to 60.5 trillion won. HBM, AI-server DRAM and enterprise SSDs drove the strong results.

Sandisk is more focused on NAND and storage than DRAM, but it is another stock that stands to benefit from AI infrastructure spending. Its fiscal 2026 revenues jumped 175% to $20.25 billion, while data-center revenues soared 437% to $5.15 billion. Sandisk’s fourth-quarter fiscal 2026 revenues also surged 372% sequentially to $8.97 billion, showing strong demand for storage products used in data centers.

Both companies highlight the broadening AI-driven demand for memory and storage, although Micron remains particularly well-positioned in DRAM and HBM.

Musk vidí nedostatek RAM jako pozitivní faktor pro Micron

FMP Stock News 85

When Elon Musk talks, investors tend to listen up. Whether he's discussing autonomous vehicles, orbital data centers, or the future of artificial intelligence (AI), Musk has an uncanny ability to draw attention to technologies that could reshape entire economies.

His latest observation was surprisingly simple. When responding to a discussion on X (formerly Twitter) about shrinking generative models to operate continuously on smartphones and other devices, Musk wrote, "Problem is RAM supply."

Those four words highlight an increasingly important challenge facing the AI industry, and they are particularly encouraging for Micron Technology (MU -3.88%) shareholders.

AI's next bottleneck isn't processing power For years, much of the AI narrative revolved around Nvidia GPUs and the enormous data centers required to train sophisticated models. Now, another opportunity is emerging. Instead of relying exclusively on cloud-based computing, AI developers are compressing model sizes so they can run directly on smartphones, laptops, vehicles, and other connected devices. This is commonly referred to as edge AI.

Running AI locally can reduce latency, improve privacy, and enable applications to operate without constant internet access. However, these models still require substantial memory. That's the issue Musk was addressing.

Random access memory (RAM) temporarily stores information that processors need to execute tasks. But even as AI models become smaller, continuously operating them still requires sufficient memory to accommodate certain parameters and data loads. Naturally, as these applications become more sophisticated, their memory requirements could increase. This is an interesting conundrum for Micron, which manufactures DRAM, including low-power memory for smartphones and high bandwidth memory (HBM) used alongside AI accelerators.

Micron's latest financial results were a blowout Micron is already benefiting from the enormous imbalance between memory supply and demand. During its fiscal fourth quarter, revenue surged 379% year over year to $54.2 billion. Meanwhile, operating income reached approximately $43.7 billion, compared with just $3.7 billion during the same period last year.

MU Operating Income Before Depreciation Amortization (OIBDA) (Annual) data by YCharts

These results reflect more than selling additional memory chips. This growth shows how Micron has gained substantial pricing power as customers compete for the limited DRAM and NAND supply. During the fourth quarter, Micron's gross margin reached 87% -- demonstrating just how favorable industry conditions have become for the memory supplier.

Management believes the memory shortage isn't ending anytime soon. During its September earnings call, Micron indicated that memory supply constraints should persist through 2027 and 2028. The company also guided approximately $61.5 billion in fiscal first-quarter revenue, underscoring that its extraordinary momentum could continue. Musk's comment regarding edge AI added another source of demand alongside hyperscaler infrastructure spending going into next year.

Why Micron stock could have more upside Micron is positioned to benefit from multiple AI tailwinds simultaneously. Cloud computing requires HBM and server DRAM. Smartphones and personal computers increasingly require advanced low-power memory. Autonomous vehicles and robotics introduce additional opportunities in the world of physical AI.

Each application is memory-intensive, yet constrained manufacturing capacity gives suppliers leverage when negotiating prices. If demand continues exceeding supply, Micron should be able to sustain unusually strong profit margins and compound earnings well beyond this year.

In turn, this could encourage growth investors to rerate Micron stock and assign a higher valuation multiple, particularly if the company's long-term customer agreements make future revenue and profit more predictable.

Musk's observation that RAM supply is constraining edge AI reinforces the importance of memory throughout the AI ecosystem. Micron's extraordinary financial performance demonstrates how profitable a supply-constrained asset can become. While the company remains exposed to macro cycles around hyperscaler spending, I see Micron as an attractive long-term AI infrastructure investment, particularly given that AI memory shortages are expected to persist and next-generation use cases are moving into production.

Micron stock has slipped substantially over the past few days, falling from this month’s high of $1,107 to $990. It has entered a bear market after falling more than 23% from its year-high. This retreat has happened despite its strong revenue and profitability growth and the latest share buyback announcement, a sign that investors are fearful about the memory industry.

Micron Technology stock has dropped recently, mirroring the performance of companies in the memory industry. The Roundhill Memory ETF (DRAM) dropped to $52, down by over 35% from its highest point this year. Other top memory stocks like Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Kioxia have also plunged.

The ongoing weakness is happening even as Micron Technology continues firing on all cylinders, with its revenue and profitability growth surging. Its recent earnings report showed that its revenue surged to $54.23 billion in the fourth quarter from $41.46 billion in the previous one. It made $11.32 billion in the same period last year, with its DRAM business being responsible for most of its revenue.

Micron’s net income rose to $37.7 billion, giving it a profit margin of 68%. This makes it one of the most profitable companies in the world, and management expects that this trend will continue. It has pointed to the rising demand amid the ongoing data center rollout in the United States and other countries.

READ MORE: Micron stock has a $3,000 bull case, so why can’t MU break above $1,100?

Analysts also predict that the company’s business will continue growing this year. The average estimate among analysts is that its first-quarter revenue will come in at $61.67 billion, up by 351% from a year earlier. After that, its second-quarter revenue is expected to soar to $66.9 billion, with the annual figure hitting $275 billion.

The earnings-per-share, on the other hand, is expected to jump to $38.2 in the first quarter from $4.78 in the same period last year. Its real figures will likely be stronger than expected since the company has a long record of doing better than estimates.

Most importantly, the compant announced a $31 billion share buyback starting on December 9 when the CHIPS Act restrictions end.

Micron Technologies is also highly undervalued, with the forward price-to-earnings ratio being 8, lower than the S&P 500 Index’s average of 19.

Therefore, the ongoing weakness in Micron is that investors are afraid that the artificial intelligence (AI) bubble is about to burst. Ray Dalio and Michael Burry have warned that the bubble will burst soon, a move that will negatively affect companies in the memory industry.

MU stock chart | Source: TradingView

The four-hour chart shows that the MU stock price has slumped in the past few months, moving from a high of $1,253 in June to the current $954. It has slumped below the 23.6% Fibonacci Retracement level of $1,031. Also, the stock has dropped below the psychological level of $1,000.

Micron has also moved below the ascending trendline that links its lowest swing since August. It has also moved below the Supertrend indicator, while the Relative Strength Index (RSI) has pointed downwards.

Therefore, the stock will likely remain under pressure, potentially to the key support level of $735, its lowest level on July 12. Such a move will imply a 22% drop from the current level.

MU Micron Technology

October to December has been the best time of the year for Micron Technology (MU -3.88%) shareholders. From 2016 through 2025, the memory maker's shares climbed about 19% on average in the fourth quarter, based on quarter-end closing prices. That average is almost twice its second-best quarter, the January-to-March period, at about 10%. And the stock finished higher in seven of those 10 fourth quarters.

This year's fourth quarter is off to a weak start, though. Shares are near $983 as of this writing, down about 8% from their Sept. 30 close and about 19% under their record close of $1,213.56 on June 25.

A calendar pattern on its own isn't a reason to buy a stock. But Micron's fourth-quarter history seems to track which way the memory cycle is heading. And this year, I think the picture looks far more like the good years than the bad ones.

When the pattern brokeThe three years the shares didn't climb were years when Micron's business was weakening.

In 2018, the stock sank around 30% in the fourth quarter, most of it ahead of Micron's Dec. 18 report. When it did report, CEO Sanjay Mehrotra cited "weak near-term industry supply-demand dynamics entering calendar 2019."

In 2022, shares edged down 0.2% as fiscal first-quarter revenue fell 47% year over year to $4.09 billion, and management's guidance for the next quarter was even lower, at around $3.8 billion.

In 2024, the stock dropped around 19% even though Micron posted record quarterly revenue of $8.71 billion. Its forecast for the following quarter was around $7.9 billion, and almost all of that quarter's decline came after the Dec. 18 report. Back then, Mehrotra said "consumer-oriented markets are weaker in the near term."

Granted, a lower outlook wasn't automatically a bad sign. Micron guided lower in December 2019, too, but it said it was optimistic its fiscal second quarter would be "the cyclical bottom." Shares climbed about 25% in the last three months of 2019.

Micron's next report still matters as a checkpoint. Its fiscal first quarter ends in late November or early December, and the company has usually reported it in December -- last year's report was on Dec. 17. As 2024 showed, a soft outlook there might break the pattern late in the quarter.

Memory prices are still rising, just more slowlyThis year's business looks nothing like those years. Micron's revenue for its fiscal fourth quarter of 2026 (the 14-week period ended Sept. 3, 2026) hit a record $54.2 billion, up 379% from a year earlier, and management expects about $61.5 billion for fiscal Q1.

Micron says demand driven by artificial intelligence sets it up for a record fiscal 2027. And chief financial officer Mark Murphy said in his prepared remarks that the company expects "sequential revenue growth each quarter."

Revenue growth has slowed from fiscal Q3's 74% sequential leap, though. Fiscal Q4's 31% rise was padded by the extra week. Without that week, revenue climbed about 21%, and the fiscal Q1 forecast suggests a similar rate.

Pricing is where the slowdown shows. In fiscal Q3, Micron said its DRAM prices went up by a percentage in the low 60s from the previous quarter. In fiscal Q4, the gain was in the high teens. Market researcher TrendForce forecasts conventional DRAM contract prices to climb 10% to 15% in the fourth quarter of 2026 compared to the third.

Prices are rising more slowly, not dropping. That's a far cry from the Decembers of 2018, 2022 and 2024, when Micron warned investors of softer conditions.

Micron plans to lift its fiscal 2027 capital spending beyond previous plans, with a lot of the increase headed to new cleanroom space. Still, Mehrotra said the company does "not have line of sight to when supply and demand will return to balance."

Is the stock a buy before year-end?Investors are paying very little for that outlook. At around $983, shares trade at about 13 times Micron's fiscal 2026 earnings of $74.33 a share. Using analysts' estimates for fiscal 2027, which started in September, the stock trades at around 6 times earnings.

In other words, the stock costs about six years of this year's expected profit. Arguably, it's the sort of price investors normally pay for a value stock, which suggests they expect memory's boom to cool eventually.

Granted, slower price gains are often how a memory cycle starts to turn. And an outlook that hints at flattening demand could break the pattern again. But Micron expects growth in every quarter of fiscal 2027.

I wouldn't buy Micron on the calendar alone. But this year, the company's own outlook points in the same direction as history, and I'd consider buying the stock ahead of its next report -- though only as a small position that leaves room for risk, and with expectations for significant volatility.

Micron (Nasdaq: MU) stock sank 4.2% through 10:55 a.m. ET Monday -- and it's no great mystery why.

Three months ago, worries about the durability of artificial intelligence combined with the threat of new competition in memory chips from China to shave 36% off Micron's stock price.

An IPO by Chinese DRAM company ChangXin Memory Technologies, or CXMT, sparked much of the selling. Today, CXMT is back in the news.

China news todayTradingView.com says CXMT has made "key progress" on technology to increase DRAM storage density. It reports that CXMT will release a new product targeting the AI data center market later this year.

CXMT isn't the only company working on "4F square" stacked DRAM architecture. Korean rivals SK Hynix and Samsung have both announced similar progress -- but that's not necessarily good news for U.S. memory producer Micron. It still adds one more company to the list of rivals making DRAM advances, and threatening to eat into Micron's market share.

What it means for Micron stockBut here is some good news for Micron investors: Chris James, Managing Partner at U.K. and U.S. investment firm Quadri, points out the threat from CXMT may not even be as sharp as feared. Most investors first heard of CXMT when Apple asked the U.S. government for permission to buy DRAM chips from CXMT back in July. Apple reportedly changed its mind, however, when CXMT demanded prices even higher than SK and Samsung were charging for their chips!

Granted, Apple might rethink again if CXMT is making advances in DRAM tech that would make its chips worth the premium. But The Wall Street Journal reports that CXMT tech still trails Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron "by two or three generations."

CXMT may be catching up, but it's not there yet.

If you bought $10,000 worth of Micron Technology (MU -0.66%) stock in October five years ago, you would have over 148,300% today. This life-changing return of over 138,000% was driven by the company's rapidly rising revenue and profits amid insatiable demand for artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.

That said, strong past performance doesn't necessarily guarantee similar results in the future. So let's dig deeper into the pros and cons of Micron to decide if the memory giant is still a compelling long-term buy.

A fundamentals-driven rally Micron's stock price growth has been driven by incredible operating results. Just take the company's fiscal fourth-quarter earnings as an example. Revenue soared by a blistering 379% year over year to $54.2 billion, driven by high sales to data center and cloud computing clients.

As AI accelerators become more powerful, memory has emerged as one of the biggest bottlenecks in running and training advanced models. This has led to soaring demand for specialty products like high-bandwidth memory (HBM), which is distinct from conventional DRAM because of its significantly higher performance. These chips are typically paired with graphics processing units (GPUs) and other AI accelerators, and move massive amounts of data quickly and efficiently within a data center.

As companies like Micron commit more and more of their production capacity to HBM, it is leading to shortages throughout the memory market. This trend is exemplified by the company's Mobile and Client segment, which supplies lower-end chips for things like smartphones and laptops. This once-mature business saw its Q4 growth skyrocket 248% year over year to $13.1 billion, mainly because clients are willing to pay more for these products than they were in the past.

Higher-margin sales helped drive fiscal 2026 net income to $86.8 million, an eye-popping 816% jump compared to the prior year.

What is the catch? If something looks too good to be true, it probably is. And Micron's spectacular growth coupled with its low valuation of just 7 times forward earnings should be setting off some alarm bells for investors. Clearly, many people on Wall Street don't expect the boom to last very long.

The biggest warning comes from history. The memory industry has a long track record of boom and bust cycles, including the PC boom during the 90s and the smartphone boom during the late 2010s. These booms typically start with demand outstripping supply and end with a market glut as production capacity catches up. Bulls will argue that this time will be different because of long-term purchasing contracts and the sheer importance of the new AI industry, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Over the next few years, a massive amount of HBM supply is expected to hit the market. Micron itself plans to pour $250 billion into U.S. manufacturing capacity through 2035. Not only will this dramatically increase the amount of memory available, but it will also soak up a lot of the company's cash flow that could have otherwise gone to dividends and buybacks. China is another long-term threat, as new entrants like CXMT plan to scale up their production over the next few years.

Whether or not you believe Micron stock is a good buy in October depends on what you expect to happen in the AI industry. If you think the AI boom is just getting started and that current levels of data center spending will continue to rise, the stock will look like a great buy because its low valuation reflects a slowdown you don't believe will happen.

However, based on historical patterns in the memory industry and Micron's own huge investments into production capacity, the risk of a future glut seems to outweigh the potential rewards right now. And the stock will probably continue trading sideways until more information becomes available.

The proof is coming via capital return: Micron’s $35.16B buyback authorization can start from Dec 9 (after CHIPS funding conditions). A large, recurring repurchase creates a steady marginal buyer, making it harder for sellers to cap the stock and giving MU a clean path to reclaim/clear $1,100.

Key Risk: AI memory demand disappoints or slows enough that even buybacks can’t offset weaker earnings expectations.

Micron (MU) call spread

Buy MU call spread (e.g., Dec/Jan calls around the $1,100 strike area). This targets the specific catalyst window: buybacks starting Dec 9 plus any sentiment rebound from AI-linked stocks. If MU breaks above $1,100, the spread captures upside without paying for far-out, fully priced $3,000-style optimism.

Key Risk: Buybacks are delayed/limited by CHIPS conditions or the market sells off broadly on AI revenue fears, keeping MU below $1,100.

Micron has one of Wall Street’s most aggressive bull cases, but the stock is still behaving as though investors need more proof.

MU closed Friday at $1,029 after spending much of the past month trapped between roughly $1,000 and $1,100.

That is a striking disconnect from the Street-high $3,000 target and from a memory market where AI demand remains unusually strong.

The most aggressive case rests on earnings durability.

Nicholas Mugalli, chief executive of World Trade Securities, told Benzinga that Micron could reach $3,000 within two years under a scenario where fiscal 2028 earnings approach $200 a share and the stock trades at about 15 times earnings.

“I need $200 in FY28 at 15 times earnings,” Mugalli said.

His maths is aggressive, but the operating backdrop gives bulls something to work with. Micron said more than 75% of fiscal 2027 output is already committed across customer allocations and contracts.

It has also signed 26 strategic customer agreements covering more than 35% of estimated revenue through 2030.

High-bandwidth memory is central to the thesis because it consumes more wafer capacity than conventional DRAM, keeping supply tighter elsewhere.

D.A. Davidson analyst Gil Luria has now separately set the Street-high $3,000 target, saying “investors are early in their journey of understanding MU’s value.”

The problem is that Micron has already risen more than 260% this year.

That makes every new forecast harder to impress investors with, while any sign that AI spending could slow has become an excuse to take profits.

The latest pullback followed broader weakness in AI-linked stocks after fresh questions emerged around OpenAI’s revenue trajectory.

As per market data, Micron stock has remained confined to the $1,000-$1,100 range since mid-September.

That range matters because it shows investors are not rejecting Micron’s growth story. They are refusing to price the most optimistic version of it.

Juxtaposed Ideas, quoted by TipRanks, said MU “may suffer intermediate-term stock price underperformance” but argued that the weakness creates an opportunity for patient investors.

The investor estimates fair value near $1,500 and a longer-term target of $2,000.

The clearest near-term catalyst is no longer another earnings report, but Micron itself.

On October 8, the board increased the company’s authorised repurchase programme to $35.16 billion.

Purchases under the expanded authorisation can begin from December 9, subject to conditions attached to Micron’s CHIPS Act funding agreements.

UBS analyst Timothy Arcuri expects buybacks to become an important source of support once those restrictions ease.

Barron’s reported that Arcuri sees repurchases potentially starting around $20 billion per quarter and rising further as cash generation expands. UBS maintains a Buy rating and a $1,625 target.

A larger buyback would not guarantee a breakout. It could reduce the share count, lift earnings per share and introduce a marginal buyer into a stock that has struggled to clear $1,100.

Poptávka po pamětech pro AI může podpořit růst Micronu
MU Micron Technology

Micron's (MU -0.66%) stock closed at a record high of $1,255 per share on June 25, 2026. Today, the memory chipmaker's stock trades at about $1,030 per share. Let's see why it pulled back 18% -- and if investors should rely on its historical performance to see what happens next.

Micron is usually a cyclical stock Micron is one of the world's largest producers of DRAM and NAND (flash) memory chips. For decades, the memory market has gone through boom-and-bust cycles.

Memory chipmakers typically ramp up their production when the growth of certain markets (PCs, servers, mobile devices, or vehicles) causes demand to outstrip supply. But those supply shortages eventually turn into supply gluts when they produce too many chips.

That's why Micron's stock has endured some steep peak-to-trough drawdowns over the past decade (73% from 2014 to 2016, 55% in 2018, 43% in 2020, 51% in 2021, and 36% in 2024) whenever the memory market cools off. Based on those historical downturns, Micron's 18% decline over the past four months could merely be the beginning of a deeper pullback.

But Micron could buck that trend this time Micron's past cyclical declines were painful, but past performance isn't a reliable indicator of future gains or losses. That's because the explosive growth of the generative AI market over the past two years has fundamentally changed the bullish thesis for Micron's stock.

Starting in 2024, the AI boom created an insatiable demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, which are paired with Nvidia's (NVDA -0.52%) data center GPUs in AI clusters, and for NAND-powered enterprise solid-state drives (SSDs) to store and transfer all that data.

Manufacturing HBM chips also requires three times the wafer capacity as the production of a standard DRAM chip, so Micron's increased production of HBM chips throttled its own supply of DRAM chips for the PC, mobile device, and server markets. That imbalance -- which its larger competitors Samsung and SK Hynix (SKHY -0.86%) have also been grappling with -- drove up memory prices across the board and amplified the market's current growth cycle.

The bulls believe those AI tailwinds will significantly lengthen Micron's current growth cycle. From fiscal 2026 (which ended in September) to fiscal 2028, analysts expect its revenue and EPS to grow at CAGRs of 55% and 67%, respectively, as the AI boom continues. Based on those estimates, its stock still looks surprisingly cheap at six times this year's earnings.

While Micron's stock might eventually suffer a steeper pullback, investors shouldn't rely on its historical data to predict its future growth. For its current cycle, the AI catalysts could drive its stock much higher before the market's supply finally catches up to its feverish demand.

Micron by mohl do června 2027 klesnout na 400 USD

FMP Stock News 85

Micron Technology (NASDAQ: MU) could plunge to $400 in early June 2027 if its current rally repeats a price pattern from the Dot-com bubble.

The target implies a 61.1% decline from Micron’s last closing price of $1,029.

According to analysis by TradingShot outlined in a TradingView post on October 9, the correction could precede another rally that extends the artificial intelligence (AI) bull cycle toward 2030.

MU stock price analysis. Source: TradingView The analysis compared Micron’s current AI-driven rally with its advance in the 1990s. Both periods feature a long-term trendline of higher highs, followed by an upward breakout and a parabolic rally.

After peaking in September 1995, Micron corrected sharply toward its monthly 50-period moving average (MA), bottoming near the 0.382 Fibonacci retracement level.

TradingShot suggested a similar pullback could take the stock to $400 before it resumes its upward trajectory.

MU stock momentum  The monthly relative strength index (RSI) also shows similarities between the two cycles. Micron’s RSI recently reached 92.75, compared with 97 at the September 1995 peak, indicating exceptionally strong momentum and potentially overbought conditions.

TradingShot also highlighted the monthly 100-period moving average, which supported Micron through much of its previous decade-long advance.

However, the historical comparison does not guarantee a repeat, and the projected June 2027 low remains a technical scenario.

Meanwhile, Micron’s fundamentals remain strong. Fiscal Q4 2026 revenue reached a record $54.23 billion, up 31% quarter over quarter and 379% year over year. Non-GAAP earnings per share of $33.42 beat estimates of $31.6, while non-GAAP gross margin reached 87%.

DRAM revenue hit a record $39.8 billion, while NAND generated $14.1 billion. The core Data Center Business Unit brought in $18 billion, up 56% sequentially, driven by AI demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM), DRAM and data center storage.

For fiscal 2026, revenue surged 256% to $133.19 billion, while non-GAAP net income reached $86.76 billion, or $75.52 per share.

For Q1 fiscal 2027, Micron forecasts revenue of $61.5 billion, plus or minus $1.5 billion, non-GAAP EPS of $38.15, plus or minus $1.00, and a gross margin of approximately 86.25%.

Micron stock fundamentals  The outlook is supported by tight memory supply and sustained AI demand. More than 75% of fiscal 2027 shipments were already committed, customers were discussing 2028 allocations, and much of next year’s HBM output had been sold at higher prices.

Additionally, Micron has signed 26 multiyear strategic customer agreements, some extending into 2030–2031, while ramping HBM4 production and expanding manufacturing capacity.

However, the technology company still faces risks, including industry cyclicality, rising capacity, slower AI spending, and customer concentration.

The company recently settled a patent dispute with Netlist for $600 million, including a five-year license, while a Taiwan workers’ union authorized a strike over bonuses.

Following its sharp rally, Micron is also vulnerable to profit-taking and valuation concerns.

Micron Technology News Roundup Here are the key news stories impacting Micron Technology this week:

Positive Sentiment: Strong earnings and forward guidance support the growth outlook. Micron reported fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of $54.23 billion and adjusted earnings of $33.42 per share, both ahead of expectations. Management also projected fiscal first-quarter 2027 adjusted EPS of $37.15-$39.15, implying another sequential increase. Micron’s Latest Earnings Reveal Why the AI Memory Supercycle Could Run for Years Positive Sentiment: AI-related demand remains a major catalyst. More than 75% of Micron’s fiscal 2027 output is reportedly committed, while customers are already discussing 2028 allocations. Record DRAM revenue and surging enterprise SSD demand suggest data-center customers are securing memory supply well in advance. Micron: This Memory Cycle Could End Differently Positive Sentiment: Analyst support remains strong. Zacks upgraded Micron to “Strong Buy,” while D.A. Davidson raised its price target to $3,000 and maintained a Buy rating, citing a potential multiyear shortage driven by AI infrastructure spending. Micron & 2 Profitable Stocks to Buy in October for Big Upside Neutral Sentiment: Valuation and cyclicality remain debated. Bullish analysts view Micron’s roughly six-to-seven-times forward earnings valuation as inexpensive, but skeptics warn that margins may be near a peak and that memory prices could eventually normalize. A $600 million settlement with Netlist also removes a legal overhang but adds a material cost. Micron Technology, Netlist Settle Patent Dispute for $600 Million Negative Sentiment: Investors reacted negatively to weaker-than-expected AI revenue concerns. A report that OpenAI’s annualized revenue was below expectations triggered a broader selloff in AI and semiconductor stocks. Analysts said the figure may reflect reporting differences rather than a deterioration in AI demand, but the news heightened concern about crowded AI valuations. Micron, Nvidia and AI chip stocks fall as report on OpenAI’s revenue causes undue concern Negative Sentiment: A Taiwan labor dispute adds operational risk. Workers at Micron’s major Taiwan manufacturing sites authorized a strike over bonus changes. No walkout has been announced, but a disruption could threaten production and increase costs. Micron’s Taoyuan union in Taiwan secures authorisation to strike Negative Sentiment: Samsung’s record profit did not reassure memory investors. Although Samsung reported sharply higher operating profit, the slower pace of growth and concerns that the memory cycle is nearing a peak reinforced fears that Micron’s exceptional earnings growth may decelerate. Every time Micron dips, one investor keeps buying more shares, and the reasoning has nothing to do with short-term momentum. The structural case building behind this memory giant may be one of the quieter conviction plays unfolding in AI right…

This post may contain links from our sponsors and affiliates, and Flywheel Publishing may receive compensation for actions taken through them.

My position in Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU | MU Price Prediction) grew again this week, and I already know I’ll repeat the move. Shares fell 4.79% on Thursday to $1,035.84 after a report on OpenAI’s revenue rattled AI chip stocks. I treated that dip the way I treat every dip in this name: as another entry point.

Here is what keeps pulling me back. Memory used to be a commodity that boomed and busted. AI changed that math. Every model with longer context and more users needs more memory, and Micron makes the HBM, DRAM, and data center SSDs those systems run on. Management says it has “no line of sight to when supply and demand will return to balance.” I want to own the bottleneck.

Three Receipts Behind Every Purchase First, the earnings engine. Fiscal 2026 revenue reached $133.19 billion, up 256.3%, with non-GAAP EPS of $75.52. Fourth-quarter gross margin hit 87.0% versus 45.7% a year earlier, marking the 8th consecutive EPS beat. Guidance for fiscal Q1 2027 calls for $61.5 billion in revenue and EPS of $38.15.

Second, visibility. Micron has signed 26 strategic customer agreements, all with take-or-pay volumes. Remaining performance obligations sit near $150 billion, customer commitments total $32 billion, and more than 75% of 2027 output is already committed. Management expects margins even at floor prices to sit significantly above any prior cycle peak.

The balance sheet stands out too. Micron ended the quarter with $68.3 billion in net cash, earned BBB+ ratings from all three agencies, and produced $33.20 billion in quarterly free cash flow. Starting December 9, 2026, management plans to step up capital returns, aiming over time to return 100% of excess cash, mostly through buybacks. The $0.15 quarterly dividend followed a 30% raise. I own this for compounding and share count reduction, with income as a bonus.

Why My Money Goes Here Instead of NVIDIA The AI name everyone reaches for first is NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA). I pass on it for valuation. NVIDIA trades at 30 times trailing earnings and 25 times forward earnings, with a price-to-sales ratio of 18.93. Micron trades at 14 times trailing, 7 times forward, and 9.23 times sales. I still get NVIDIA’s roadmap through Micron, which is building “the industry’s first custom HBM4E implementation, NVHBM” with it.

Risks That Keep Me Disciplined Memory remains cyclical. Capex ran $30.71 billion in fiscal 2026, and first-half fiscal 2027 spending should reach about $25 billion. HBM4 volume leans on a lead customer, a Taiwan union won approval to strike, and a beta of 2.226 guarantees violent swings. If AI spending slows or rivals add capacity faster than expected, pricing breaks.

I accept that. Floor-priced, take-or-pay contracts and a large cash pile give Micron room to weather a downturn that would have crushed the old Micron.

What Keeps My Buy Button Active Idaho’s ID1 fab should begin wafer output in mid-calendar 2027, HBM4E volume production arrives in calendar 2027, and Level 4 autonomous vehicles need more than 200 gigabytes of memory each. CEO Sanjay Mehrotra put it simply: “As strong as fiscal 2026 was, we expect fiscal 2027 to be even better.” (The signs that show up years before a monster tech run are the ones we cataloged in a free playbook here: The Next Nvidia Playbook.)

While the world keeps running short of memory, I will keep buying the company that makes it.

Michael Burry and Jim Cramer aren't the first two investors you'd expect to agree on a stock, but their disagreement over Micron Technology (MU +0.61%) is particularly interesting.

Burry, the investor made famous by The Big Short, recently closed his outright short position in Micron and replaced it with put options. Cramer, meanwhile, warns that investors betting against the memory chip maker are "digging their own grave."

After Micron's latest earnings report, I think Burry's bet faces a particularly difficult obstacle: the company he's betting against doesn't look much like the highly cyclical memory business investors became exhausted by over the last several decades.

Michael Burry is betting Micron stock gets cut in half Burry isn't simply bearish on Micron stock. His trade actually has a deadline before it potentially pays off. On Sept. 28, Burry notified subscribers to his investment newsletter that he had replaced his Micron short position with put options expiring in June 2027 with strike prices around $500. At the time, Micron was trading above $1,000. Put options give an investor the right to sell their shares at a predetermined price. Burry's position will become increasingly valuable if Micron stock plunges toward or below $500.

Burry says artificial intelligence (AI) is a bubble and it could burst sooner than most investors expect. He is so confident in this idea that he moved his timeline for an AI-driven crash forward and wanted additional leverage for such a trade.

This isn't a vague prediction that Micron will someday experience a downturn. Burry is effectively betting that something goes seriously wrong with the AI market before next summer. That's a really bold call considering what Micron just reported.

Cramer warns that short sellers are missing an AI-driven transformation Two days after Burry disclosed his new Micron position, the company delivered a monster fiscal fourth quarter. Revenue for the quarter reached a record $54.2 billion, up 379% year over year. Adjusted earnings per share (EPS) surged to $33.42 per share, while adjusted gross margin reached an astonishing 87%.

Management expects things to get even better. For the first quarter of fiscal 2027, Micron guided for $61.5 billion in revenue and adjusted earnings of $38.15 per share. Management made it clear that they expect memory supply demand conditions to become even tighter during 2027 and 2028.

This growth is the backdrop behind Cramer's argument. Following Micron's earnings, Cramer argued that investors still treating Micron like a commoditized, cyclical memory manufacturer are missing the company's secular AI-driven transformation.

I would not bet against Micron Micron's bull case extends well beyond AI data centers. High-bandwidth memory (HBM) and advanced DRAM is increasingly needed across different pockets of AI infrastructure -- from autonomous vehicles, aerospace and defense, medical technology, industrial applications, and even humanoid robotics.

Moreover, the company has signed 26 strategic customer agreements and more than 75% of its expected 2027 output is already committed. Remaining performance obligations (RPO) have climbed to roughly $150 billion.

Lastly, Micron finished fiscal 2026 with $68.3 billion in net cash and generated $62.3 billion of adjusted free cash flow for the year. However, the company only repurchased $650 million of stock. Management is planning to return 100% of excess cash to shareholders over time, primarily through share repurchases. That authorization could create a powerful new source of demand for Micron shares.

Of course, today's premium prices for memory and 80%-plus profit margins won't last forever. AI infrastructure spending could slow, while new manufacturing capacity should eventually balance supply and demand. After Micron's spectacular rally, expectations are undeniably high. Although Burry could ultimately be right that another memory cycle is coming, I see a problem with his clock.

His June 2027 puts do not give the bear thesis several years to materialize. Meanwhile, Micron is telling investors that supply is going to remain tight through fiscal 2027 and 2028 while simultaneously forecasting higher revenue, signing multi-year supply agreements, expanding into new AI markets, and preparing to deploy enormous cash toward buybacks. That's a lot to bet against over the next eight months. I think Micron's record revenue, enormous contracted demand, new AI use cases, and upcoming share repurchases suggest the stock is a screaming buy right now.

Most Americans can name a Coca-Cola before they can name a single Micron product, yet Wall Street just handed the obscure memory chip maker a valuation that leaves seven of the world's most recognized consumer brands in the dust.

This post may contain links from our sponsors and affiliates, and Flywheel Publishing may receive compensation for actions taken through them.

In a typical week, most Americans buy a Coke, a Big Mac or a latte. Few of them could name a single product made by Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU | MU Price Prediction), yet the memory maker closed Oct. 8 with a market cap of about $1.17 trillion.

That is more than the combined $1.104 trillion of Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO), PepsiCo (NASDAQ:PEP), McDonald’s (NYSE:MCD), Disney (NYSE:DIS), Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX), Nike (NYSE:NKE) and Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE:CMG). Investors now pay for exposure to the AI buildout.

The lead is thin. A drop of about 5.5% would erase it if the consumer names stayed flat. One bad trading day could do that.

Micron Earns More Than All Seven Brands Combined Micron earned $84.97 billion in fiscal 2026, about 1.7 times the estimated $49.1 billion the seven consumer companies earned together over the trailing year.

Micron’s latest quarter alone produced $37.70 billion in profit, equal to about 77% of the group’s annual total.

Metric Micron Seven Consumer Companies Market Cap $1.17 trillion $1.104 trillion Revenue $133.2 billion $371.6 billion Annual Profit $84.97 billion about $49.1 billion Margins Explain Why Smaller Sales Earn More The seven brands sell far more than Micron but keep far less of each sale. Micron’s non-GAAP gross margin reached 87.0% in fiscal Q4, up from 45.7% a year earlier, because demand for AI memory such as HBM and DDR5 is growing faster than supply.

Nike trades near a 13-year low, while PepsiCo hit its lowest level since 2020 before bouncing on results that cut its outlook for core EPS growth to 2.5-3.5%.

A Single-Digit Multiple Shows Doubts About How Long This Lasts Micron’s valuation sits at about 6x forward earnings, pricing today’s profits like the peak of a cycle. Customers have signed 26 strategic agreements carrying about $150 billion in remaining performance obligations.

CFO Mark Murphy said, “Even at floor prices, we expect margins meaningfully above any prior cycle peak margins.”

Revenue guidance of $61.5 billion, plus or minus $1.5 billion, for next quarter shows demand is still climbing. Memory is the most cyclical part of the chip industry; high prices bring new supply, and a small number of AI customers account for much of the demand. The same expansion is lifting the power, cooling, and networking vendors we profiled in a free report on seven AI infrastructure stocks that aren’t chipmakers.

The stock fell 4.79% on Oct. 8 in a broad selloff of AI chip stocks and sits about 17.5% below its record intraday high from June 25, 2026.

Should You Buy or Sell MU Stock At about 6 times forward earnings, the price assumes a steep downturn. More than 75% of the company’s calendar 2027 output is already committed to customers, making a downturn before 2028 less likely.

A beta of 2.226 means the stock tends to swing about twice as much as the market. Coca-Cola raised its guidance and grew Zero Sugar volume 16%, though its earnings will grow far more slowly.

I would reconsider if pricing for HBM, the high-bandwidth memory used in AI chips, weakens in 2028 or if customers stop paying cash down payments to lock in supply.

FMP Stock News 85

DA Davidson analyst Gil Luria shocked the market on Wednesday by setting a $3,000 12-month price target for memory maker Micron (MU +0.61%), representing nearly 200% upside from the stock's Tuesday close. The stock has already risen about 1,500% since last April and was up 266% year to date.

Micron is one of the big three memory makers, along with its South Korean counterparts Samsung (SSNLF +0.00%) and SK Hynix (SKHY +1.19%). The company derives about three-quarters of its revenue from DRAM (dynamic random access memory) and a quarter from NAND flash memory. The company has been riding the memory supercycle, seeing a huge surge in revenue and gross margins as a serious shortage has pushed memory prices sharply higher.

Let's look at the cases for and against this AI stock delivering such a huge upside from here.

The bull case Luria is now the biggest Micron bull on Wall Street, and his investment thesis is quite simple. He thinks this memory cycle is much different than prior cycles, and the current supply-and-demand imbalance will last significantly longer than expected. This, in turn, will lead the market to rerate the stock to a higher multiple.

The analyst called memory "a lever for better AI performance" and believes there has been a big structural shift in the market. He pointed to Micron's long-term supply contract agreements and the strength of the companies making these deals. Meanwhile, he thinks the trend of memory de-specing -- the use of less memory per AI processor -- could actually lead to more AI processor sales and boost overall memory sales.

I think Luria is correct when he says this memory cycle is different from past ones, as the AI infrastructure build-out has created what clearly looks like a structural tailwind. High-bandwidth memory (HBM) has become an essential part of the AI infrastructure story, as graphics processing units (GPUs) and other AI chips need to be packaged with copious amounts of HBM to rapidly feed them data to process -- or else they will spend too much of their time idle. Meanwhile, memory makers'  ability to increase their production capacity is constrained by a host of factors, from a limited ability to secure new EUV (extreme ultraviolet) lithography machines to the time it takes to build new clean rooms. In addition, HBM requires roughly three times the wafer capacity of conventional DRAM, which is straining silicon wafer supply for all types of memory.

The bear case That said, I think there are some flaws in Luria's argument. First, HBM is not the main direct driver of Micron's huge revenue growth and suddenly robust margins. In fact, the company derives the least amount of its revenue from HBM of any of the big three memory makers. While in Q2, the company had a 24% share of the global DRAM market, it held only an 18% share of the HBM market, compared to 33% for Samsung and 50% for SK Hynix. (Those numbers add to 101% due to rounding.)

As a result, Micron is enjoying more of the piggyback action from the current state of the memory market. With the big three memory makers focusing most of their resources on HBM to keep up with demand, prices for conventional DRAM and NAND have risen at a much quicker pace than HBM prices. This has benefited Micron more than its rivals.

This can be seen in the results of Micron compared to those of HBM leader SK Hynix, which has close ties to Nvidia. Last quarter, Micron's revenue increased nearly fivefold to $55.2 billion, and its gross margin went from 44.7% a year ago to 86.8%. This was largely due to price increases, as its shipments for DRAM rose by just a mid-single-digit percentage sequentially, and NAND shipments grew by 10%. By comparison, SK Hynix saw its revenue climb 257% year over year on sequential shipment growth (high-single-digits for DRAM and mid-teens for NAND), while its gross margin rose from 53% a year ago to 83%.

Why the HBM story is a good one The simple fact is that if you back into the numbers, less than 10% of Micron's revenue is coming from HBM (roughly 20% market share of what is projected to be a $55 billion HBM market this year). It is much more reliant on conventional DRAM and NAND prices remaining high than on HBM demand, and that's why I wouldn't buy the stock now.

Samsung's record validates memory pricing while reminding investors that Micron's richest cycle attracts capacity. Summary

Strong competitor earnings confirm both demand and future supply risk.

Micron Technology MU, the AI-memory and storage producer, fell over 2% to $1,065.92 at approximately 10:29 a.m. ET on Oct. 8, despite another strong signal from the memory industry. According to Barron's reporting, Samsung's SSNLF preliminary profit underscored the pricing boom. But strong industry earnings do not guarantee a rising stock. Investors already expect plenty from Micron.

The company's latest earnings release puts those expectations in perspective: quarterly revenue reached $54.23 billion, while management projected $61.5 billion, plus or minus $1.5 billion, for the next quarter. Its core data-center business delivered $18 billion in revenue at a 90% gross margin. Those are extraordinary economics. The picture also shows shares trading 38.98% above the $766.94 GF Value estimate, suggesting the price leaves little room for disappointment.

Samsung's results strengthen the industry story. They do not settle Micron's competitive position. Fat margins give suppliers a powerful reason to build more capacity, and that expansion could eventually weaken pricing. For investors, the next test is how long Micron can defend these returns. Customer commitments, high-bandwidth-memory qualifications and disciplined spending will matter more than another rival's record profit.

Micron (MU -4.79%) stock tumbled in Thursday trading, closing the day down 4.8% -- but the news wasn't as bad as you might think.

Bond yields declined Thursday, suggesting the cost Micron customers bear when financing their purchases of memory chips won't climb forever. Furthermore, minutes released from the last meeting of the Federal Reserve Open Markets Committee indicate the Fed may not keep raising interest rates to combat inflation -- also good news for debtors.

Unfortunately for Micron investors, that wasn't all the news that came out Thursday. As CNBC reports, OpenAI just confirmed that its annual recurring revenue as of the end of September was only $50 billion -- not the $68 billion previously posited.

What that means for Micron stockIf OpenAI's not making as much money as it thought it was, then Micron's customers might actually need to take on more loans to buy the company's memory chips. Because if they're anything like OpenAI, their revenues may not be generating enough cash to pay for those chips out of cash flow alone!

What's next for Micron stockSo is it time for Micron shareholders to panic? Not necessarily.

Although OpenAI fell short of the mark in September, the company still grew its revenue run rate 77% in the September quarter. And a new report out of Lynx Equity Strategies today confirms that the AI revolution is alive and well.

Tight supply of memory chips has driven up the prices Micron can charge for its wares, and according to Lynx analyst KC Rajkumar, memory supply in 2027 and 2028 will be "significantly tighter than in fiscal 2026."

Tight supply is just what Micron needs to keep its profits growing. Trading at 7x next year's earnings, Micron stock still looks like a buy to me.

Micron Stock Keeps Soaring. Here's Why Investors Should Watch the Buybacks Instead Summary

Micron stock is soaring on AI-driven memory demand, but management appears more focused on buybacks than splitting the shares

Micron Technology MU is leaning toward returning excess cash through share repurchases rather than using a stock split as its four-digit share price draws attention.

The memory-chip maker ended fiscal 2026 with $133.19 billion in revenue and $84.97 billion in GAAP net income. Operating cash flow reached $89.68 billion, versus $17.53 billion a year earlier.

Micron said its current buyback authorization stands at $2.2 billion and that it expects to increase capital returns beginning Dec. 9. Chief Financial Officer Mark Murphy said the company plans to seek additional authorization in the near term.

The cash buildup reflects demand for memory used in artificial intelligence systems. Micron has signed 26 strategic customer agreements, which it estimates will represent more than 35% of revenue through 2030. The company expects fiscal 2027 free cash flow to remain strong while funding higher manufacturing and R&D spending.

A stock split could lower the price of each share without changing the company’s overall value. For now, management’s stated priority is reducing the share count through repurchases. Shares climbed 4.06% to $1,088 in Wednesday trading.

A union at Micron's largest DRAM production site just voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike, and the result of one upcoming mediation session could determine whether that threat turns into something far more costly.

This post may contain links from our sponsors and affiliates, and Flywheel Publishing may receive compensation for actions taken through them.

Micron (NASDAQ:MU | MU Price Prediction) just reported the largest profits in its history. On Oct 7, 2026, the union at its Taoyuan, Taiwan operation said members voted 1,994 to 14 to authorize a strike over how those profits are split. Taiwan produced a majority of Micron’s DRAM output in 2025.

Yes votes were 99% of ballots cast, or 88.3% of the union’s 2,258 eligible members. The vote only authorizes a strike. No strike has been called, and no date or deadline has been set.

Shares fell about 2.8% before the open on the news. They then turned after an analyst set a Street-high price target and closed up 4.06% at $1,088.00.

What the Union Is Actually Asking For The union wants 15% of operating profit paid out through what it calls “an open and transparent profit-sharing system,” replacing Micron’s current incentive plan.

Union chair Jerry Lin spoke. He said, “We haven’t decided on an actual strike schedule yet.” The union is waiting for a Micron board meeting before deciding what to do next.

Members are being urged to take Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, off for a rally on Taipei’s Ketagalan Boulevard. The union itself says the rally is “not a strike.” Micron has said it takes the concerns seriously and is committed to good-faith engagement and mediation.

Micron employs about 15,000 people in Taiwan, and the Taoyuan and Taichung unions together represent more than 80% of them.

The larger Taichung union, with about 11,000 members, has not voted. It goes back to mediation with Micron on Oct. 22, 2026.

Taichung has enough members to slow output, making whatever it decides after mediation the bigger risk for Micron.

Record Profits Hand the Union Its Argument Fiscal fourth-quarter revenue reached $54.23 billion, up from $11.32 billion a year earlier. GAAP net income came in at $37.70 billion on a gross margin of 86.8%.

Fiscal 2026 net income was $84.97 billion, compared with $8.54 billion the year before. Chief executive Sanjay Mehrotra said, “Micron delivered record fiscal 2026 results, and we expect an even stronger fiscal 2027.”

At that margin, production costs take up only a small share of each sales dollar, making a bigger payout cheap for Micron and hard to refuse publicly.

Micron did announce a cash bonus for Taiwan staff in September worth about US$31,600, plus equity. The union wants payouts like that set by a formula instead of left to management.

Samsung Already Set the Price of a Settlement Samsung’s union called off a planned strike in May 2026 after a deal that set a bonus pool at 10.5% of chip-division operating profit.

That figure is below what Taoyuan is asking for and gives Micron a regional benchmark, and a deal in that range is much more likely than a stoppage.

Even a strike would hit a market that is short on supply. Management said it does “not have line of sight to when supply and demand will return to balance,”. When memory is tight, lost output pushes prices up for every seller, including Micron.

Micron is earning record profits. Management expects “greater tightness in the industry in 27 and in 28 versus 26,” and this dispute looks far more likely to end in a bonus pool than a closing.

The bear case is real. The stock is up 281.44% year to date, much of its DRAM output depends on one jurisdiction, and the larger union has not voted yet.

The test is Oct 22, 2026. If Taichung leaves mediation and schedules its own strike vote, the case for holding the stock drops, but if Micron’s board offers a profit-sharing formula before then, expect the dispute to blow over.

Micron vyplatí dividendu 0,15 USD na akcii 29. října
MU Micron Technology
FMP Stock News 80
Original source text
The final Micron (NASDAQ: MU) dividend of 2026 is coming later this month, when the technology company is once again going to reward its shareholders with some passive income.

Specifically, fourth-quarter Micron stock dividend has been declared to be paid on October 29, 2026, with the ex-dividend date as of October 14.

As in the previous quarter, Micron shareholders will receive $0.15 for each share they hold, meaning 100 MU shares are going to net a total of $15 in the final quarter of 2026.

With Micron stock trading around $1,088, a 100-share position would currently be worth approximately $108,800. That means the upcoming $15 dividend represents a quarterly cash yield of roughly 0.014% on a 100-share position at that price.

Micron’s next dividend. Source: Dividend.com

Looking at the figure, it is obvious that Micron’s dividend remains relatively small compared with the stock’s market value. However, the company has nevertheless raised its quarterly payout to $0.15 in 2026 from $0.115 in 2025, giving investors hope the number could go up even more next year.

Micron dividend 2026 As of October 9, the company offers a dividend yield of 0.06%, significantly below the 1.37% average yield for technology stocks. However, this highlights the fact that Micron is primarily viewed as a growth stock rather than a traditional income investment.

Indeed, its forward payout ratio stands at just 0.35%, indicating that only a very small portion of the company’s earnings is currently being returned to shareholders through dividends.

Likewise, the next dividend follows reports of a record fiscal 2026. Notably, the company reported $133.19 billion in full-year revenue and $84.97 billion in GAAP net income, while fourth-quarter revenue reached record levels amid strong demand for memory used in artificial intelligence (AI) and data-center applications.

As MU shares have also surged sharply over the past year, the recent financial results also prompted a wave of bullish Micron stock price revisions, which argued the market has not yet fully grasped the chipmaker’s long-term potential.

Micron rychle snižuje náskok Nvidie v tržbách
MU Micron Technology
FMP Stock News 78

Nvidia (NVDA -0.93%) is the world's most valuable publicly traded company, but it may not hold that title in a few years. Memory chip maker Micron (MU +3.81%) has a real shot at taking the crown. Fundamentals and growth rates are on Micron's side as both companies continue to outperform the S&P 500.

Micron may soon generate more revenue per quarter than Nvidia The recent memory chip boom has closed the gap between Micron and Nvidia. Looking at what both companies did last year and then comparing it to their most recent earnings releases will paint the picture.

Micron's fiscal 2025 fourth quarter featured $11.3 billion in revenue, while Nvidia earned $46.7 billion in its fiscal 2026 second quarter. Nvidia brought in more than 4 times Micron's revenue during that time.

Now, let's fast-forward a year to the present day. Micron's fiscal 2026 fourth-quarter results revealed $54.2 billion in revenue, while Nvidia's fiscal 2027 second-quarter sales were $96.2 billion. A more than 4x difference in Nvidia's favor shrank to a 1.8x difference in one year.

Guidance also favors Micron, with the memory chip maker projecting 13.4% sequential growth at the midpoint. Nvidia's midpoint implies $108 billion in revenue, which would be a 12.2% sequential jump. Both companies beat guidance in their most recent earnings results, but Micron is growing faster. Furthermore, they both have sky-high net profit margins, with Micron's edging out Nvidia's in the most recent quarter.

Micron is trading at a steep discount Micron and Nvidia both trade at lower valuations than the S&P 500, but the gap between Micron and Nvidia is tremendous. While Micron trades at a forward P/E ratio of 7, Nvidia is valued at a much higher 23. Micron would have to more than triple in price to reach Nvidia's valuation, which would put the stock close to a $4 trillion market cap.

That discount will become more striking if Micron continues to outpace Nvidia with year-over-year and sequential revenue growth. Continued memory chip shortages fuel the likelihood of that scenario.

While investors can't expect Micron to deliver 379% year-over-year revenue growth forever, its eventual deceleration may be slow. Nvidia has already demonstrated that a tech giant at the center of the AI trade can still double its revenue year over year.

Multiyear strategic customer agreements minimize the risk of cyclical decline One of the bearish concerns surrounding Micron is that it is a cyclical business. Memory chip sales surge, chipmakers produce more of them, and then a slowdown in chip sales results in massive inventory gluts.

Micron is already experiencing hypergrowth in its sales, but bears have worried about an eventual slowdown that could force Micron to cut prices, incur steep year-over-year revenue declines, and wind up with narrow margins.

However, the AI trade is different. Tech executives and political leaders have described it as the Fourth Great Industrial Revolution. The demand for agentic AI alone will keep Micron busy for multiple years, and physical AI will also require more memory chips.

These tailwinds also lift Nvidia, but based on past results, Micron has benefited even more than the largest AI chipmaker. As Micron continues to deliver impressive growth rates, this bearish concern will increasingly find itself in the rearview mirror, and that can help Micron command a similar valuation to Nvidia.

Right now, Micron trades at a $1.2 trillion market cap, and Nvidia has a $5.8 trillion market cap. The gap is wide now, but as Micron has been catching up in total revenue, Nvidia's market cap lead may shrink quickly as well.

Micron zaplatí Netlistu 600 milionů USD za urovnání sporu
MU Micron Technology
FMP Stock News 82
Original source text
A jury handed Netlist a $445 million win against Micron, but collecting that money was another battle entirely. What Netlist ultimately accepted, and why Micron agreed to pay even more, reveals how high the stakes had quietly become.

This post may contain links from our sponsors and affiliates, and Flywheel Publishing may receive compensation for actions taken through them.

Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU | MU Price Prediction) agreed on October 5, 2026, to pay Netlist (OTC:NLST) $600 million over five years. That is more than the $445 million jury verdict at the center of their patent fight.

Micron never paid the verdict and was still appealing, so the settlement gives Netlist cash it couldn’t collect.

Why Micron Paid More Than the Verdict A Texas jury found in May 2024 that Micron’s memory modules infringed two Netlist patents, awarding $425 million on one and $20 million on the other. The Patent Trial and Appeal Board later ruled the asserted claims of both unpatentable, and Micron filed notice of appeal in July 2025.

The settlement, announced October 6, releases all pending proceedings and voids the verdict. Micron also gets a five-year license to Netlist’s worldwide portfolio, covering patents an appeal could never reach.

This matters because Netlist asked the International Trade Commission in late September to block imports of Micron chips used in AI systems. An import ban stops product from reaching customers, whereas damages only cost money.

Small Payments for Micron Mean Big Revenue for Netlist In fiscal fourth quarter 2026, Micron posted revenue of $54.23 billion, net income of $37.70 billion, and free cash flow of $33.20 billion. Each $30 million quarterly fee equals about 0.06% of that quarter’s revenue.

Measure Micron Netlist Settlement payments $30 million paid per quarter $120 million received per year Share move on announcement Down 1.73% to $1,045.56 Up 17.88% to $6.66 Netlist’s gain reflects $120 million each year, on trailing revenue of $332.69 million.

Netlist Collects From Two Memory Giants Netlist struck a similar deal with Samsung in August 2026, with $239 million upfront and quarterly fees of up to $32.9 million. Chief executive C.K. Hong said, “The agreement with Micron further validates the value of our AI memory technologies.”

With two licensees paying, Netlist’s income depends less on future verdicts. However, Micron fees stop in 2031, patents age, and fewer unlicensed targets remain.

Why Micron Matters More Micron is capital-intensive and cyclical. Its 87.0% gross margin depends on tight supply, and memory cycles have turned before. Netlist’s revenue comes largely from reselling other makers’ DRAM at thin margins, so most of its value depends on licensing.

Micron has the stronger outlook of the two companies. It guided fiscal first quarter 2027 revenue to $61.5 billion, plus or minus $1.5 billion, with more than 75% of 2027 output already committed. Micron has 26 strategic customer agreements with take-or-pay volumes and $32 billion in customer commitments, which should cushion the next downturn. The main risk is oversupply once new fabs ramp in 2027 and 2028.

Micron just posted 481% gains on AI memory demand, but the real debate is whether new money buys into a cyclical peak or the early innings of a multiyear supercycle. Three scenarios tell very different stories about where a $5,000…

A $5,000 stake in Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU | MU Price Prediction) buys about 4.65 shares at the model’s starting price of $1,074.89. Early Monday the stock traded at $1,066.18. Over the past year the stock gained 481.18% on AI memory demand. So the real question for new money is how much upside remains through 2031.

Base Case: Your $5,000 Could Grow to $5,661.50 by 2031 A $5,000 investment could be worth about $5,661.50 by 2031 under the base case, a total return of 13.23%. That rests on a projected five-year share price of $1,217.05 on October 4, 2031, which works out to 2.52% a year.

Confidence in the model is rated high (0.9). The model’s one-year target is $1,071.04, which it describes as near fair value (-0.4%).

Bull, Base and Bear: Where Your $5,000 Could Land Scenario 2031 Target Price Total Return Annualized Return Value of $5,000 Bull $1,911.44 77.83% 12.2% $8,891.50 Base $1,217.05 13.23% 2.52% $5,661.50 Bear $741.27 -31.04% -7.16% $3,448 Analysts on Wall Street are more upbeat than the model. The consensus analyst target is $1,520.02, and 92% of covering analysts are bullish: 9 Strong Buy, 36 Buy, 3 Hold and 1 Strong Sell. That target has only a 0.3 weight in the model.

It leans heaviest on forward earnings, and it applies a brake because Micron is now a mega-cap stock. At about 6x forward earnings, the market is viewing today’s profits as a cyclical peak. That doubt explains why the expected outcome looks modest.

Three Forces That Could Push Your Stake Higher Contracted Revenue Through 2030 Micron has signed 26 strategic customer agreements. It expects them to account for over 35% of revenue through 2030. Every agreement includes take-or-pay volumes.

Customer financial commitments total $32 billion, and remaining performance obligations are about $150 billion. Contracts like these could help smooth the boom-and-bust swings that have long held down memory stock valuations.

Memory Supply Can’t Keep Up Management expects supply and demand to be “much tighter in calendar 2027 and 2028 than they were in 2026”. It also said Micron does “not have line of sight to when supply and demand will return to balance.” More than 75% of calendar 2027 output is already committed.

Micron is also working with NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) on a custom HBM4E implementation. Fiscal fourth-quarter revenue came in at $54.229B, up 379.27% year over year, with an 87.0% non-GAAP gross margin.

Earnings Estimates Keep Rising and Cash Is Coming Back to Shareholders Consensus EPS for fiscal 2028 is $205.2990, up from $163.3470 90 days ago. Fiscal first-quarter guidance calls for revenue of $61.5B ± $1.5B and EPS of $38.15 ± $1.

Starting December 9, 2026, Micron plans to step up capital returns, and over time it intends to return 100% of excess cash to shareholders, mostly through buybacks. Its net cash stands at $68.3 billion. Chief Executive Sanjay Mehrotra said the agreements “provide added confidence in the durability of Micron’s financial performance.”

Risks That Could Shrink Your $5,000 Memory has always been cyclical. On Monday, Barron’s reported that Micron shares were slipping on fears of a memory-price peak. Analysts disagree sharply about how big earnings will get: fiscal 2028 EPS estimates run from $136.0000 to $335.5000. If AI infrastructure spending cools off, or if new industry capacity comes online faster than expected, pricing could reverse quickly.

Spending is also climbing. Capex hit $30.712B in fiscal 2026, up 93.68%, and management expects higher outlays in fiscal 2027. New fabs take years to ramp, so any delay would push back revenue.

With a beta of 2.22, Micron moves far more than the broader market, so even a stake that ends up near the expected value could take a rough path to get there. The model’s own quarterly base-case path sinks as low as $1,032.52 along the way.

What $5,000 in Micron Could Look Like by 2031 Across the three scenarios, a $5,000 Micron stake ranges from $3,448 in the bear case to $8,891.50 in the bull case, landing at $5,661.50 as the base case.

Contract length and tight supply favor the upside, while the memory cycle is the main threat. Watch HBM pricing and capex discipline in coming earnings reports. The projections here are not investment advice or a guarantee.

JPMorgan očekává u Micronu volný peněžní tok přes 100 mld. USD
MU Micron Technology

Micron Technology, Inc‘s(NASDAQ:MU) AI boom may be turning into something investors rarely get from a memory-chip company: massive and increasingly predictable cash generation.

JPMorgan sees more than $100 billion of cumulative free cash flow from Micron between fiscal second-quarter 2027 and fiscal fourth-quarter 2027, creating a potential capital-return story on top of the AI memory trade.

• Micron Technology stock is trading at elevated levels. What’s ahead for MU stock?

AI Memory Supply Stays TightThe cash-flow outlook rests on a market that JPMorgan expects to remain unusually tight.

Analyst Harlan Sur said Micron’s management expects both calendar 2027 and 2028 to be significantly tighter than 2026, with memory demand growth running well above industry supply growth. JPMorgan estimates the industry could remain roughly 19% undersupplied in 2027 and 15%-16% undersupplied in 2028.

That matters because Micron is entering the upcycle with more pricing visibility than it has historically enjoyed. The company now has 26 Strategic Customer Agreements covering more than 35% of projected revenue through 2030, with some agreements extending through 2031. Customer commitments, including cash deposits, have climbed to $32 billion, while remaining performance obligations have reached $150 billion.

Micron’s latest results show why the setup is so powerful. Fiscal 2026 revenue jumped to $133.2 billion from $37.4 billion a year earlier, while adjusted free cash flow reached $62.3 billion.

Buybacks Could Become the Next CatalystThe biggest investor question may now be what Micron does with that cash.

Management has said buybacks will be the primary vehicle for returning excess cash to shareholders, while JPMorgan expects Micron to seek a materially larger authorization than its existing $2.2 billion program.

The timing is important. Micron has faced restrictions tied to its CHIPS Act funding that have limited share repurchases. Management expects to reach its target cash balance during the November quarter and has indicated that it intends to return 100% of excess cash over time, with buybacks taking priority over dividends.

That creates a potentially powerful feedback loop: tighter memory supply supports pricing, stronger pricing drives cash flow, and cash flow gives Micron greater firepower to reduce its share count.

Micron’s Valuation Is the TestJPMorgan rates Micron Overweight with a $1,540 December 2027 price target, versus $1,063.96 on Oct. 5. Its valuation framework applies roughly an 8-times multiple to projected 2027 earnings.

The risk is that memory remains a cyclical business. A sharper-than-expected supply ramp, weaker AI spending or falling memory prices could quickly challenge the cash-flow assumptions.

But that is precisely why Micron’s new long-term contracts matter. If the company can turn today’s AI-driven memory shortage into multi-year pricing visibility and enormous free cash flow, the next Micron catalyst may not be another earnings beat. It could be what the company chooses to do with the cash.

Micron zvýšil tržby o 31 %, Citi varuje před vrcholem cen pamětí
MU Micron Technology
FMP Stock News 88
Original source text
Citi's cycle warning follows a quarter in which revenue rose approximately 31% sequentially. Summary

Record results now require memory pricing to remain disciplined beyond the next capacity cycle.

Micron Technology, the memory and high-bandwidth-memory producer MU, slipped approximately 0.17% to $1,062.12 at 10.25am on October 6 as investors weighed how long the memory boom can last. According to Barron's reporting, Citi's Atif Malik sees mid-2027 as an early possible peak for memory prices, with growing Chinese supply a concern. The question is sharp: how much of today's pricing power survives the next capacity wave?

The latest results show why investors remain interested. Micron reported fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of $54.23 billion, up 30.8% from the previous quarter, with an 86.8% GAAP gross margin. Annual revenue reached $133.19 billion, versus $37.38 billion a year earlier. Those margins are extraordinary. They also give competitors a powerful reason to expand production.

The valuation graphic puts shares 40.47% above the $756.12 GF Value estimate, suggesting a hefty premium for sustained growth. That estimate is no price ceiling, but it raises the stakes if memory pricing cools. Strategic customer agreements can improve demand visibility; they cannot automatically preserve margins or a favorable product mix. Micron needs to turn today's shortage into lasting earnings power before rising supply gives customers more bargaining room.

Prior to the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution, Micron Technology (MU -1.02%) was doing its best to claw back from the usual down cycles of the memory market. Late last year the stock started to move higher, and the momentum carried over into 2026. So far this year, Micron stock has ripped 278%, launching the company into the trillion-dollar club.

What changed is simple: AI data centers started devouring high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and high-capacity DRAM faster than suppliers could produce. The question now is whether Micron's rally still has legs. There are 1.7 trillion reasons to think it does.

Micron is converting record sales into record profits Micron's financial performance in fiscal 2026 was absurd on every level. Full-year revenue hit $133 billion, up 256% from the prior year, while earnings per share (EPS) jumped nearly 900% to $74.

During the fourth quarter alone, the company delivered $54.2 billion in sales and $33 in EPS, with gross margin at 87%. Every segment of the business is going full throttle. The core data center unit generated $18 billion during the fourth quarter at a 90% gross margin. Cloud memory added another $16.3 billion at an 83% margin. Mobile and client, plus automotive and embedded, both cleared 84% margins or better.

The mix shift toward HBM and premium DRAM is the engine fueling Micron right now. Those products carry higher prices and better unit economics, so incremental revenue drops straight to the bottom line. Operating cash flow for the year reached nearly $90 billion and while adjusted free cash flow came in at $62 billion – nearly 20x higher than the year prior. With more than 75% of next year's shipments already under contract or allocation, Micron's cash machine does not look like it is about to stall.

MU Revenue (TTM) data by YCharts

Memory supply could be tight until 2028 Micron's CEO Sanjay Mehrotra suggested memory and storage will be tighter throughout fiscal 2027 and 2028 than they are today. The company's COO, Manish Bhatia, explained the structural brakes around memory, discussing how new technology transitions are delivering diminishing bit growth as HBM nodes take a rising share of industry wafers. Bhatia went on to say Micron simply does not have a clear line to "when supply and demand balances."

Wall Street seems to agree with Micron's management. Citi sees the memory shortfall widening through 2031 as DRAM growth accelerates 30% next year and another 35% in 2028. Meanwhile, JPMorgan's forecast values the memory market at $1.7 trillion by 2028, largely attributable to rising CPU demand alongside memory-intensive GPU systems.

How can Micron stock double? As of this writing (Oct. 2), Micron stock trades at roughly $1,080 per share. With a forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio near 6, this implies the market is modeling somewhere around $176 in earnings for the current fiscal year. Management's guidance for the first quarter points to about $38 in EPS on $61.5 billion of revenue. This implies the earnings run-rate is already there if profit margins hold.

MU PE Ratio (Forward) data by YCharts

Tight supply through 2028 gives Micron room to keep premium prices firm as its product mix continues shifting toward higher-value HBM4 and HBM4E. If earnings simply grow another 20 to 30% on top of the 2027 estimate, you are looking at about $220 in annual EPS by 2028. If I apply even a modest multiple expansion to 10 or 11 times earnings -- still well below historical peaks -- Micron stock could clear $2,000 without needing a massive rerating.

Given today's modest valuation profile multiple, the company's contracted backlog, and the multi-year supply gap, I think Micron stock could reasonably double before 2028 even happens. To me, this level of share price appreciation looks less like wishful thinking and more like a base case scenario so long as the memory shortage simply persists.

Micron žaluje YMTC kvůli přebírání inženýrů
MU Micron Technology
FMP Stock News 94

Micron is accusing a Chinese chip rival of a brazen scheme: poach its engineers, extract their confidential knowledge, then file patents on that knowledge to turn around and sue Micron with its own technology.

This post may contain links from our sponsors and affiliates, and Flywheel Publishing may receive compensation for actions taken through them.

Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU | MU Price Prediction) alleges that Chinese memory maker Yangtze Memory Technologies (YMTC) hired away its engineers, took confidential know-how, and patented versions of Micron’s technology to sue Micron. In a lawsuit filed in federal court in Idaho on September 15, 2026, Micron claims the patents being used against it were built on its own engineering.

Micron shares sit at $1,063.96, up 273.01% this year. The case concerns NAND flash (storage chips in phones and data centers), while most of Micron’s record $54.23 billion in quarterly revenue comes from DRAM, the working memory inside servers and computers.

What Micron Alleges in Idaho The complaint names eight former employees and claims some hid their new roles on professional networking profiles. News reports indicate at least 20 employees moved from Micron to YMTC.

Micron alleges YMTC used patents listing those former employees as inventors to sue Micron. It asks the court to transfer ownership of four US patents to Micron, plus injunctions and damages. No damages figure has been disclosed.

Memory is especially exposed to this kind of transfer because knowledge of manufacturing processes lives in engineers’ heads more than in documents. That is why engineers changing employers is common in memory trade-secret cases.

Three days after Micron filed in Idaho, a Munich court ruled for YMTC in two cases and ordered Micron to stop selling certain NAND products in Germany. Micron has appealed.

YMTC first sued Micron in California in November 2023 and has since filed in China, Texas, the United Kingdom, and Europe. Venue shopping explains Germany, where injunctions are relatively easy to obtain. A win there shows leverage more than it proves the underlying claims.

Last quarter Micron earned $39.8 billion from DRAM against $14.1 billion from NAND. The litigation impacts the smaller business.

A German sales ban on certain NAND products poses little threat to the investment case. That changes with an injunction in a larger market, an adverse ruling on patent ownership, or NAND growing into a larger share of revenue.

China Builds What It Cannot Buy US export controls have pushed Chinese producers to build memory capacity at home. That competition will grow regardless of this suit’s outcome, and over several years matters more to Micron than any single injunction.

Micron’s results also reflect an unusually strong pricing cycle. On September 30, 2026, management said: “we do not have line of sight to when supply and demand will return to balance.” Multi-year customer agreements now cover “over 35% of our revenue through 2030,” suggesting part of this boom is structural.

What Could Shift the Outlook for Micron The fundamentals look strong relative to the legal risk. Shares trade at 7 times forward earnings, and legal exposure is relatively small.

Guidance calls for fiscal first-quarter revenue of $61.5 billion ± $1.5 billion. The consensus analyst price target is $1,520.02.

That view would change with a loss on the German appeal, a YMTC injunction in the US or UK, or a court refusing to hand Micron the four patents. Watch YMTC’s response in Idaho and the DRAM-versus-NAND split in the next earnings report.
