When deciding whether to buy, sell, or hold a stock, investors often rely on analyst recommendations. Media reports about rating changes by these brokerage-firm-employed (or sell-side) analysts often influence a stock's price, but are they really important?
Before we discuss the reliability of brokerage recommendations and how to use them to your advantage, let's see what these Wall Street heavyweights think about Lam Research (LRCX - Free Report) .
Lam Research currently has an average brokerage recommendation (ABR) of 1.51, on a scale of 1 to 5 (Strong Buy to Strong Sell), calculated based on the actual recommendations (Buy, Hold, Sell, etc.) made by 34 brokerage firms. An ABR of 1.51 approximates between Strong Buy and Buy.
Of the 34 recommendations that derive the current ABR, 23 are Strong Buy and four are Buy. Strong Buy and Buy respectively account for 67.7% and 11.8% of all recommendations.

While the ABR calls for buying Lam Research, it may not be wise to make an investment decision solely based on this information. Several studies have shown limited to no success of brokerage recommendations in guiding investors to pick stocks with the best price increase potential.
Are you wondering why? The vested interest of brokerage firms in a stock they cover often results in a strong positive bias of their analysts in rating it. Our research shows that for every "Strong Sell" recommendation, brokerage firms assign five "Strong Buy" recommendations.
This means that the interests of these institutions are not always aligned with those of retail investors, giving little insight into the direction of a stock's future price movement. It would therefore be best to use this information to validate your own analysis or a tool that has proven to be highly effective at predicting stock price movements.
Zacks Rank, our proprietary stock rating tool with an impressive externally audited track record, categorizes stocks into five groups, ranging from Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) to Zacks Rank #5 (Strong Sell), and is an effective indicator of a stock's price performance in the near future. Therefore, using the ABR to validate the Zacks Rank could be an efficient way of making a profitable investment decision.
Zacks Rank Should Not Be Confused With ABRAlthough both Zacks Rank and ABR are displayed in a range of 1--5, they are different measures altogether.
Broker recommendations are the sole basis for calculating the ABR, which is typically displayed in decimals (such as 1.28). The Zacks Rank, on the other hand, is a quantitative model designed to harness the power of earnings estimate revisions. It is displayed in whole numbers -- 1 to 5.
It has been and continues to be the case that analysts employed by brokerage firms are overly optimistic with their recommendations. Because of their employers' vested interests, these analysts issue more favorable ratings than their research would support, misguiding investors far more often than helping them.
In contrast, the Zacks Rank is driven by earnings estimate revisions. And near-term stock price movements are strongly correlated with trends in earnings estimate revisions, according to empirical research.
Furthermore, the different grades of the Zacks Rank are applied proportionately across all stocks for which brokerage analysts provide earnings estimates for the current year. In other words, at all times, this tool maintains a balance among the five ranks it assigns.
Another key difference between the ABR and Zacks Rank is freshness. The ABR is not necessarily up-to-date when you look at it. But, since brokerage analysts keep revising their earnings estimates to account for a company's changing business trends, and their actions get reflected in the Zacks Rank quickly enough, it is always timely in indicating future price movements.
Should You Invest in LRCX?In terms of earnings estimate revisions for Lam Research, the Zacks Consensus Estimate for the current year has increased 0.8% over the past month to $5.68.
Analysts' growing optimism over the company's earnings prospects, as indicated by strong agreement among them in revising EPS estimates higher, could be a legitimate reason for the stock to soar in the near term.
The size of the recent change in the consensus estimate, along with three other factors related to earnings estimates, has resulted in a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy) for Lam Research. You can see the complete list of today's Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) stocks here >>>>
Therefore, the Buy-equivalent ABR for Lam Research may serve as a useful guide for investors.
Lam Research (LRCX - Free Report) is expected to deliver a year-over-year increase in earnings on higher revenues when it reports results for the quarter ended June 2026. This widely-known consensus outlook gives a good sense of the company's earnings picture, but how the actual results compare to these estimates is a powerful factor that could impact its near-term stock price.
The earnings report, which is expected to be released on July 29, might help the stock move higher if these key numbers are better than expectations. On the other hand, if they miss, the stock may move lower.
While management's discussion of business conditions on the earnings call will mostly determine the sustainability of the immediate price change and future earnings expectations, it's worth having a handicapping insight into the odds of a positive EPS surprise.
Zacks Consensus EstimateThis semiconductor equipment maker is expected to post quarterly earnings of $1.69 per share in its upcoming report, which represents a year-over-year change of +27.1%.
Revenues are expected to be $6.67 billion, up 29% from the year-ago quarter.
Estimate Revisions TrendThe consensus EPS estimate for the quarter has been revised 1.25% higher over the last 30 days to the current level. This is essentially a reflection of how the covering analysts have collectively reassessed their initial estimates over this period.
Investors should keep in mind that the direction of estimate revisions by each of the covering analysts may not always get reflected in the aggregate change.
Price, Consensus and EPS Surprise
Earnings WhisperEstimate revisions ahead of a company's earnings release offer clues to the business conditions for the period whose results are coming out. This insight is at the core of our proprietary surprise prediction model -- the Zacks Earnings ESP (Expected Surprise Prediction).
The Zacks Earnings ESP compares the Most Accurate Estimate to the Zacks Consensus Estimate for the quarter; the Most Accurate Estimate is a more recent version of the Zacks Consensus EPS estimate. The idea here is that analysts revising their estimates right before an earnings release have the latest information, which could potentially be more accurate than what they and others contributing to the consensus had predicted earlier.
Thus, a positive or negative Earnings ESP reading theoretically indicates the likely deviation of the actual earnings from the consensus estimate. However, the model's predictive power is significant for positive ESP readings only.
A positive Earnings ESP is a strong predictor of an earnings beat, particularly when combined with a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), 2 (Buy) or 3 (Hold). Our research shows that stocks with this combination produce a positive surprise nearly 70% of the time, and a solid Zacks Rank actually increases the predictive power of Earnings ESP.
Please note that a negative Earnings ESP reading is not indicative of an earnings miss. Our research shows that it is difficult to predict an earnings beat with any degree of confidence for stocks with negative Earnings ESP readings and/or Zacks Rank of 4 (Sell) or 5 (Strong Sell).
How Have the Numbers Shaped Up for Lam Research? For Lam Research, the Most Accurate Estimate is higher than the Zacks Consensus Estimate, suggesting that analysts have recently become bullish on the company's earnings prospects. This has resulted in an Earnings ESP of +1.38%.
On the other hand, the stock currently carries a Zacks Rank of #2.
So, this combination indicates that Lam Research will most likely beat the consensus EPS estimate.
Does Earnings Surprise History Hold Any Clue?Analysts often consider to what extent a company has been able to match consensus estimates in the past while calculating their estimates for its future earnings. So, it's worth taking a look at the surprise history for gauging its influence on the upcoming number.
For the last reported quarter, it was expected that Lam Research would post earnings of $1.36 per share when it actually produced earnings of $1.47, delivering a surprise of +8.09%.
Over the last four quarters, the company has beaten consensus EPS estimates four times.
Bottom LineAn earnings beat or miss may not be the sole basis for a stock moving higher or lower. Many stocks end up losing ground despite an earnings beat due to other factors that disappoint investors. Similarly, unforeseen catalysts help a number of stocks gain despite an earnings miss.
That said, betting on stocks that are expected to beat earnings expectations does increase the odds of success. This is why it's worth checking a company's Earnings ESP and Zacks Rank ahead of its quarterly release. Make sure to utilize our Earnings ESP Filter to uncover the best stocks to buy or sell before they've reported.
Lam Research appears a compelling earnings-beat candidate. However, investors should pay attention to other factors too for betting on this stock or staying away from it ahead of its earnings release.

Investors seek growth stocks to capitalize on above-average growth in financials that help these securities grab the market's attention and produce exceptional returns. But finding a great growth stock is not easy at all.
By their very nature, these stocks carry above-average risk and volatility. Moreover, if a company's growth story is over or nearing its end, betting on it could lead to significant loss.
However, it's pretty easy to find cutting-edge growth stocks with the help of the Zacks Growth Style Score (part of the Zacks Style Scores system), which looks beyond the traditional growth attributes to analyze a company's real growth prospects.
Our proprietary system currently recommends Lam Research (LRCX - Free Report) as one such stock. This company not only has a favorable Growth Score, but also carries a top Zacks Rank.
Research shows that stocks carrying the best growth features consistently beat the market. And for stocks that have a combination of a Growth Score of A or B and a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) or 2 (Buy), returns are even better.
Here are three of the most important factors that make the stock of this semiconductor equipment maker a great growth pick right now.
Earnings GrowthEarnings growth is arguably the most important factor, as stocks exhibiting exceptionally surging profit levels tend to attract the attention of most investors. For growth investors, double-digit earnings growth is highly preferable, as it is often perceived as an indication of strong prospects (and stock price gains) for the company under consideration.
While the historical EPS growth rate for Lam Research is 8.5%, investors should actually focus on the projected growth. The company's EPS is expected to grow 39.2% this year, crushing the industry average, which calls for EPS growth of 38.9%.
Cash Flow GrowthCash is the lifeblood of any business, but higher-than-average cash flow growth is more beneficial and important for growth-oriented companies than for mature companies. That's because, high cash accumulation enables these companies to undertake new projects without raising expensive outside funds.
Right now, year-over-year cash flow growth for Lam Research is 31.2%, which is higher than many of its peers. In fact, the rate compares to the industry average of 5.8%.
While investors should actually consider the current cash flow growth, it's worth taking a look at the historical rate too for putting the current reading into proper perspective. The company's annualized cash flow growth rate has been 16.6% over the past 3-5 years versus the industry average of 4.6%.
Promising Earnings Estimate RevisionsSuperiority of a stock in terms of the metrics outlined above can be further validated by looking at the trend in earnings estimate revisions. A positive trend is of course favorable here. Empirical research shows that there is a strong correlation between trends in earnings estimate revisions and near-term stock price movements.
There have been upward revisions in current-year earnings estimates for Lam Research. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for the current year has surged 0.8% over the past month.
Bottom LineLam Research has not only earned a Growth Score of B based on a number of factors, including the ones discussed above, but it also carries a Zacks Rank #2 because of the positive earnings estimate revisions.
You can see the complete list of today's Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here.
This combination indicates that Lam Research is a potential outperformer and a solid choice for growth investors.

« PREVIOUS HEADLINERobert W. Baird Issues Positive Forecast for Cintas (NASDAQ:CTAS) Stock Price
Lam Research is one of the stocks most watched by Zacks.com visitors lately. So, it might be a good idea to review some of the factors that might affect the near-term performance of the stock.
Over the past month, shares of this semiconductor equipment maker have returned -17.5%, compared to the Zacks S&P 500 composite's +0.5% change. During this period, the Zacks Electronics - Semiconductors industry, which Lam Research falls in, has lost 10%. The key question now is: What could be the stock's future direction?
While media releases or rumors about a substantial change in a company's business prospects usually make its stock 'trending' and lead to an immediate price change, there are always some fundamental facts that eventually dominate the buy-and-hold decision-making.
Revisions to Earnings EstimatesHere at Zacks, we prioritize appraising the change in the projection of a company's future earnings over anything else. That's because we believe the present value of its future stream of earnings is what determines the fair value for its stock.
Our analysis is essentially based on how sell-side analysts covering the stock are revising their earnings estimates to take the latest business trends into account. When earnings estimates for a company go up, the fair value for its stock goes up as well. And when a stock's fair value is higher than its current market price, investors tend to buy the stock, resulting in its price moving upward. Because of this, empirical studies indicate a strong correlation between trends in earnings estimate revisions and short-term stock price movements.
Lam Research is expected to post earnings of $1.69 per share for the current quarter, representing a year-over-year change of +27.1%. Over the last 30 days, the Zacks Consensus Estimate has changed +1.3%.
The consensus earnings estimate of $5.68 for the current fiscal year indicates a year-over-year change of +37.2%. This estimate has changed +1.1% over the last 30 days.
For the next fiscal year, the consensus earnings estimate of $7.93 indicates a change of +39.6% from what Lam Research is expected to report a year ago. Over the past month, the estimate has changed +1.1%.
Having a strong externally audited track record, our proprietary stock rating tool, the Zacks Rank, offers a more conclusive picture of a stock's price direction in the near term, since it effectively harnesses the power of earnings estimate revisions. Due to the size of the recent change in the consensus estimate, along with three other factors related to earnings estimates, Lam Research is rated Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
Revenue Growth ForecastWhile earnings growth is arguably the most superior indicator of a company's financial health, nothing happens as such if a business isn't able to grow its revenues. After all, it's nearly impossible for a company to increase its earnings for an extended period without increasing its revenues. So, it's important to know a company's potential revenue growth.
For Lam Research, the consensus sales estimate for the current quarter of $6.67 billion indicates a year-over-year change of +29%. For the current and next fiscal years, $23.19 billion and $30.58 billion estimates indicate +25.8% and +31.9% changes, respectively.
Last Reported Results and Surprise HistoryLam Research reported revenues of $5.84 billion in the last reported quarter, representing a year-over-year change of +23.8%. EPS of $1.47 for the same period compares with $1.04 a year ago.
Compared to the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $5.77 billion, the reported revenues represent a surprise of +1.26%. The EPS surprise was +8.09%.
The company beat consensus EPS estimates in each of the trailing four quarters. The company topped consensus revenue estimates each time over this period.
ValuationWithout considering a stock's valuation, no investment decision can be efficient. In predicting a stock's future price performance, it's crucial to determine whether its current price correctly reflects the intrinsic value of the underlying business and the company's growth prospects.
While comparing the current values of a company's valuation multiples, such as price-to-earnings (P/E), price-to-sales (P/S), and price-to-cash flow (P/CF), with its own historical values helps determine whether its stock is fairly valued, overvalued, or undervalued, comparing the company relative to its peers on these parameters gives a good sense of the reasonability of the stock's price.
The Zacks Value Style Score (part of the Zacks Style Scores system), which pays close attention to both traditional and unconventional valuation metrics to grade stocks from A to F (an A is better than a B; a B is better than a C; and so on), is pretty helpful in identifying whether a stock is overvalued, rightly valued, or temporarily undervalued.
Lam Research is graded F on this front, indicating that it is trading at a premium to its peers. Click here to see the values of some of the valuation metrics that have driven this grade.
ConclusionThe facts discussed here and much other information on Zacks.com might help determine whether or not it's worthwhile paying attention to the market buzz about Lam Research. However, its Zacks Rank #2 does suggest that it may outperform the broader market in the near term.
Key Takeaways ASE Technology is benefiting from strong AI packaging demand, record ATM revenues and LEAP expansion.LRCX faces China export risks and exposure to memory spending cycles despite strong packaging growth.ASX trades at a much lower trailing sales multiple than LRCX, offering a more attractive valuation. ASE Technology Holding (ASX - Free Report) and Lam Research (LRCX - Free Report) are both important players in the semiconductor industry, but they operate in different parts of the supply chain. ASE Technology is a major player in outsourced semiconductor assembly and testing, offering advanced packaging and testing services for AI, high-performance computing and automotive chips, while Lam Research provides wafer fabrication equipment that enables chipmakers to manufacture advanced semiconductors.
Both ASX and LRCX are well-positioned to benefit from the rising demand for AI chips, as hyperscalers continue to increase investments in AI infrastructure. However, from an investment point of view, one stock offers a more favorable outlook than the other right now. Let’s break down their fundamentals, growth prospects, market challenges and valuation to determine which stock offers a more compelling investment case.
The Case for ASE Technology StockASE Technology is benefiting from the growing demand for AI chip packaging. In the first quarter of 2026, ASX's Assembly, Testing and Materials (ATM) business performed better than expected, despite having fewer working days and did not see the usual seasonal slowdown. Management said AI-related products are changing the normal demand pattern, helping reduce the impact of seasonality on the business.
Advanced packaging continues to be the main growth driver. ASE reported record ATM revenues of NTD 112.4 billion in the first quarter, up 2% sequentially and 30% year over year. Higher factory utilization and a larger contribution from Leading Edge Advanced Packaging (LEAP) services were the key contributors to growth. The company said demand for AI and computing products remained strong, while growth in advanced packaging and wirebond services helped offset softer demand in some consumer markets.
ASE Technology is also increasing investments to support future growth. The company raised its 2026 capital spending plan and increased its LEAP revenue outlook by 10%. It now expects LEAP revenues to exceed $3.5 billion in 2026. Management said the additional investment will help expand capacity to meet growing customer demand and help drive further growth in the company's LEAP in the upcoming years.
The company is seeing demand not only from AI accelerator chips but also from AI-related power management, connectivity, sensors and edge devices. At the same time, it is expanding its advanced packaging technologies, including full-process packaging, CoWoS-like packaging and panel-level packaging, to support future AI applications. If AI infrastructure spending remains strong, ASE Technology is well-positioned to benefit from the growing demand for advanced semiconductor packaging.
The Case for Lam Research StockLam Research expects its advanced packaging business to be one of its fastest-growing businesses in 2026. Revenues from the advanced packaging business are expected to grow more than 50% in 2026. Management said AI is increasing demand for advanced packaging because AI chips need higher performance, higher bandwidth and better power efficiency than traditional chips.
LRCX supplies equipment used in key advanced packaging processes, including through-silicon via etch and copper plating. These technologies are used to connect chips and memory more efficiently in AI systems. As semiconductor companies build more AI processors and high-bandwidth memory, they need more advanced packaging equipment, creating additional demand for Lam Research's products.
The advanced packaging business is already contributing to LRCX's growth. In the third quarter of fiscal 2026, foundry revenues increased 35% year over year, and management said advanced packaging remained a strong growth area. The company also continues to gain market share in its PECVD business, helped by demand for advanced packaging applications.
LRCX expects demand for advanced packaging to continue to grow as AI infrastructure spending increases. The company expects more chipmakers to adopt advanced packaging technologies as AI chips become more complex. This trend should position advanced packaging to become an important contributor to LRCX's revenue growth over the next few years.
However, risks and uncertainties related to trade restrictions on exporting semiconductor tools to China do not bode well for Lam Research. Management expects China revenues to decline in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, while China’s wafer fabrication equipment spending is expected to remain roughly flat year over year. Further, the company remains heavily exposed to memory spending cycles, particularly NAND and DRAM. Any slowdown in AI memory demand or delays in customer spending could hurt growth.

Morgan Stanley has identified three stocks that could outperform as the second-quarter earnings season gets underway. The Wall Street bank highlighted GE Vernova NYSE:GEV, Lam Research (NASDAQ: LRCX), and United Airlines (NASDAQ: UAL) among its top picks, citing expectations that they will deliver strong quarterly earnings.
GE Vernova stock has done well this year, helped by the rising demand for power equipment amid the artificial intelligence boom. It has soared by 61% this year and by nearly 100% in the last 12 months.
Recently, however, the stock has wavered and now sits a few points below its all-time high. Even so, Morgan Stanley analysts believe that the company will bounce back after its earnings on July 22. It expects it to publish stronger-than-expected numbers, helped by its new gas turbine contracts.
The management has already hinted that it will sell out its gas turbines reservations through 2030. Morgan Stanley’s Michael Wilson said:
“Capex is broadening beyond data centers and reshoring progress suggests the U.S. industrial economy may be entering a sustained growth cycle as international production becomes more expensive than domestic.”
MarketBeat data shows that the average target for GEV stock among analysts is $1,089, slightly above the current $1,067. Bernstein has a target of $1,206, while Jefferies recently lowered the target to $1,210 from the previous $1,350.
Morgan Stanley is also bullish on United Airlines as it expects the giant to issue a positive forward guidance for the rest of the year. Its stock has jumped by 7% this year and by 43% from its lowest point this year. This rebound happened as the US and Iran started their ceasefire, which brought jet fuel prices lower.
The risk, however, is that the two countries have resumed their fighting, pushing oil prices higher. Brent and WTI have all jumped to over $80 this week, which will translate into higher jet fuel prices. Morgan Stanley wrote:
“Airline demand and booking intent remain healthy, with seven consecutive price increases absorbed without demand destruction. With oil prices moving lower, airlines are unlikely to roll back pricing, though sustained demand will remain the key test.”
Analysts are largely bullish on the stock, with those from Susquehanna, Cowen, Goldman Sachs, BMO, and Bernstein boosting their targets this month.

Morgan Stanley analysts are also bullish on Lam Research, a company whose stock has more than doubled this year. After hitting a record high of $437 in June, Lam shares have dropped by 20% to the current $346.
Morgan Stanley believes that the company will release better-than-estimated revenue and earnings. It will then boost its earnings per share as it has done in the past. The statement said:
“AI demand remains robust with rising token prices and continued strength across the ecosystem despite recent market pullbacks. New equipment orders are improving.”
Analysts are also bullish on Lam Research even as its valuation concerns remain. The company has a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 62, much higher than other top companies like Nvidia, Micron, and SanDisk.
Stifel raised its target from $325 to $425, while Needham boosted the target from $300 to $390. Other analysts who boosted their target for the shares are from Mizuho, Susquehanna, and Cantor Fitzgerald.

Wedbush Securities tech strategist Dan Ives argued on CNBC on Monday that memory chips have become the most valuable slice of the AI supply chain, and that SK Hynix’s blockbuster U.S. listing debut on Friday is the clearest signal yet that capital is rotating toward American-listed AI infrastructure names. “Those are the golden child really of this AI revolution. The reality is you’re not going to have equilibrium in terms of demand and supply at least until 2028.”
Ives quantified the supply and demand imbalance he sees: “We continue to think demand [to] supply 15 to 1 in terms of the chips,” he said, adding that for the first time in 30 years, the U.S. is ahead of China in tech, a shift he expects will draw more foreign listings to New York.
Micron Is the Purest U.S. Play on the AI Memory Shortage The clearest expression of the memory rerating is Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU | MU Price Prediction). Shares are up 243.33% year to date and 696.76% over the past year, carrying the company to a $1.1 trillion market cap. Fiscal Q3 revenue reached $41.456 billion, up 345.72% year over year, with GAAP gross margin expanding to 84.6% and non-GAAP EPS of $25.11 beating consensus expectations. Guidance calls for Q4 revenue of $50.0 billion ± $1.0 billion and roughly 86% gross margin.
CEO Sanjay Mehrotra told investors that “AI demand is driving DRAM and NAND data center bits TAM to exceed 50% of the industry TAM for the first time in calendar 2026” and that Micron can currently fulfill only “50% to two-thirds” of some customers’ demand. That is the supply squeeze Ives is monetizing thematically.
Why Dan Ives Still Likes Nvidia Ives argued that NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) and the hyperscalers have become “the shiny new toy, shiny new object in terms of memory. The ones that are actually at the center, whether it’s the hyperscalers or Nvidia, those are almost in the penalty box.”
Ives believes Nvidia still plays a central role in the AI industry: “There’s one chip in the world fueling the AI revolution, and that’s led by the godfather of AI, Nvidia. Where is memory without Nvidia? Where’s memory without the hyperscalers?”
Ives cited that NVIDIA trades at its lowest valuation since 2019, even as Q1 FY2027 revenue hit $81.61 billion, with Data Center at $75.25 billion. The stock trades at a forward P/E of 24 and closed at $203.53 on Monday against an analyst target price of $301.62.

For investors mapping the AI stack, our team has covered the theme in our Free Report: 7 Stocks Powering the AI Boom.
TSMC Confirms the AI Chip Boom Is Still Accelerating Ives pointed to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (NYSE:TSM) as a confirmation signal that the AI boom is accelerating. June revenue jumped 67.9% year over year to NT$442.68 billion, with first-half 2026 cumulative revenue of NT$2,404.48 billion, up 35.6%. Q2 results land July 16, 2026, three days from Ives’s segment. The stock is up 43.57% year-to-date.
Companies Making Money From the Memory-Chip Supercycle Broadcom (NASDAQ:AVGO) posted Q2 AI semiconductor revenue of $10.80 billion, up 143% year over year, and guided Q3 AI revenue to $16.00 billion, over 200% growth. CEO Hock Tan tied the growth to “increasing demand for custom AI accelerators and AI networking.”
Lam Research (NASDAQ:LRCX) sells the deposition and etch tools that make HBM possible. Fiscal Q3 revenue reached $5.84 billion, up 23.8% year over year, with June-quarter guidance of $6.60 billion. South Korea and Taiwan together account for 46% of revenue, direct exposure to the SK Hynix and TSMC HBM ramps. Shares are up 105.04% year to date.
Key Takeaways Ives’s broader argument is that memory chips have become one of the most valuable and supply-constrained parts of the AI infrastructure buildout. Micron offers the clearest direct exposure among U.S. companies, while NVIDIA, TSMC, Broadcom, and Lam Research each provide exposure to a different layer of the same investment cycle.
The next major signals to watch include TSMC’s July 16 earnings report, the start of HBM4E volume production in 2027, and any additional U.S. listings from Asian chipmakers.

Key Takeaways Lam Research targets record Q4'26 revenues of $6.6B after posting $5.84B in the third quarter.AI chip demand is driving investments in advanced DRAM, HBM and leading-edge foundry technologies.LRCX's advanced packaging sales are expected to grow by over 50% in 2026 as AI processors become more complex. Lam Research Corporation (LRCX - Free Report) is slated to report its fourth-quarter fiscal 2026 results in late July, and investors must be wondering if the company will reach its record revenue target of $6.6 billion. We believe that the ongoing boom in artificial intelligence (AI) chips could help Lam Research achieve that goal. Demand for advanced semiconductor equipment continues to rise as chipmakers expand capacity for AI processors, high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and next-generation logic devices.
Lam Research delivered strong momentum in the third quarter of fiscal 2026. Revenues increased 24% year over year to a record $5.84 billion, while systems revenues climbed to $3.73 billion. Non-GAAP earnings per share jumped 41% and reached a record $1.47, while non-GAAP gross margin improved 90 basis points to 49.9%, reflecting a favorable product mix and operational execution. These results provide a solid foundation for another quarter of growth.
AI is becoming LRCX’s biggest growth engine. The company is benefiting from rising investments in advanced DRAM, HBM and leading-edge foundry technologies, all of which require Lam Research’s etch and deposition equipment. Management also expects advanced packaging revenues to grow more than 50% in calendar year 2026 as AI processors become more complex and require sophisticated chip integration technologies.
Industry conditions remain favorable. Lam Research estimates global wafer fabrication equipment spending of approximately $140 billion in calendar year 2026, reflecting stronger AI-related investments across memory and logic markets. The company also expects industry growth to continue into 2027.
If AI infrastructure spending remains robust and customers continue expanding advanced chip production, Lam Research appears well-positioned to achieve its record fourth-quarter sales target and sustain its strong growth momentum. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for fourth-quarter fiscal 2026 revenues is currently pegged at $6.67 billion, higher than the midpoint of management’s guidance range and indicating a year-over-year increase of more than 29%.
Lam Research’s Rivals Also Benefit From AI Chip DemandLRCX’s main competitors, Applied Materials, Inc. (AMAT - Free Report) and KLA Corporation (KLAC - Free Report) , are also benefiting from the AI chip boom. Both companies have broad exposure to advanced semiconductor manufacturing and are seeing strong demand from AI-related investments.
Applied Materials is Lam Research’s closest rival in wafer fabrication equipment. The company generated revenues of $7.91 billion in the second quarter of fiscal 2026, with its Semiconductor Systems segment contributing the majority of sales. Applied Materials reported record DRAM revenue and continues to benefit from growing demand for advanced logic, HBM and advanced packaging solutions used in AI servers. Its broad product portfolio positions it to capture a significant share of rising semiconductor capital spending.
KLA Corporation competes through inspection and process control equipment, which are essential for manufacturing advanced AI chips. The company’s third-quarter fiscal 2026 revenues increased 11.5% year over year to $3.42 billion as it continues to benefit from increasing process complexity at leading-edge nodes. As AI processors and HBM stacks require tighter quality control and higher production yields, KLAC's inspection tools are becoming increasingly important.
For Lam Research, sustaining record quarterly revenues will depend on maintaining its leadership in etch and deposition technologies while competing effectively with Applied Materials and KLA Corporation across the rapidly expanding AI semiconductor ecosystem.

Miller Tabak Chief Market Strategist Matt Maley believes investors should keep a close eye on two often-overlooked warning signs: the Japanese yen and South Korea’s KOSPI index. During CNBC’s Morning Call Sheet yesterday, he argued that a reversal in the popular yen carry trade and continued weakness in Korean stocks could signal broader trouble for global markets.
For investors with exposure to semiconductor equipment and chip stocks, those signals could prove especially important, as many of the industry’s largest customers are concentrated in Asia.
Why a Japanese Yen Reversal Could Rattle Global Markets Maley pointed to crowded positioning against the Japanese yen as a potential accelerant if the Bank of Japan is forced to defend its currency. “There’s some speculation that the BOJ will have to come in at some point and defend their currency. And we certainly know from the CFTC data that the short position in the yen is very, very large. So a lot of people are on one side of the boat. So if that situation starts to unwind and the carry trade starts to unwind, that could put some pressure on the markets.”
The USD/JPY rate stood at 161.93 as of July 6, 2026, and the VIX closed at 15.81 on July 3, 2026, sitting in the 22.6th percentile of its 12-month distribution and well below the 18.088 average.
The Overseas Market Maley Says Investors Should Watch Closely On Korea, Maley reached back a quarter-century for his analogy. “I just note that in 2000, when the bubble burst in 2000, the KOSPI was the first one to go down several months in advance of the rest of the world. So it’s important to keep a close eye on that.” He added that the KOSPI has been very choppy over the last month, with Samsung set to report earnings this week and SK Hynix’s ADR set to begin trading in the U.S. Both are memory chipmakers and major customers of U.S.-listed equipment and design names that investors can trade.

Why Lam Research Could Feel the Impact First Lam Research (NASDAQ:LRCX | LRCX Price Prediction) is arguably one of the companies that would feel the biggest impact of negative KOSPI developments. In its March 2026 quarter, South Korea contributed $1.344 billion, or 23% of revenue, matching Taiwan and trailing only China’s $1.986 billion. Combined Asia-Pacific exposure sits at roughly 87% of the $5.841 billion quarterly total. CEO Tim Archer noted “Lam delivered record revenue and EPS in the March quarter as AI-driven demand reshapes the semiconductor industry,” while the 10-Q explicitly flags trade regulations, export controls, and geopolitical tensions as material risks. Shares fell 12.55% in the week ending July 2, 2026, though the stock remained up 105.67% year to date.
Samsung’s Earnings Could Be a Major Test for ASML ASML Holding (NASDAQ:ASML) sells the EUV lithography tools that Samsung and SK Hynix rely on for advanced DRAM. Q1 2026 delivered revenue of $10.34 billion and EPS of $8.43, with a gross margin of 53.0%, and management raised full-year guidance to €36 billion to €40 billion. CEO Christophe Fouquet noted, “The semiconductor industry’s growth outlook continues to solidify, driven by ongoing AI-related infrastructure investments,” though guidance explicitly accounts for export-control outcomes. Year-end 2025 backlog stood at $45.06 billion. Choppy Korean chip demand would show up here first in orders and push-outs.
Why Qualcomm Faces More Than One Headwind Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM) already shows the strain Maley is warning about. Fiscal Q2 2026 handset revenue fell 13% year over year to $6.024 billion on memory supply constraints and Chinese OEM softness, and Q3 guidance implies further sequential decline at $9.2 billion to $10.0 billion in revenue and $2.10 to $2.30 in non-GAAP EPS. CEO Cristiano Amon framed the pivot toward “our entry into the data center, where a leading hyperscaler custom silicon engagement is on track for initial shipments later this calendar year.” The stock trades at a forward P/E of about 16, and management has flagged China concentration as a standing risk in every recent filing.
What to Watch Next Maley’s broader message is that market risks may first appear overseas before reaching U.S. stocks. A sharp reversal in the yen carry trade or continued weakness in South Korea’s KOSPI could signal tightening liquidity and softer demand for semiconductor equipment, creating headwinds for companies such as Lam Research, ASML, and Qualcomm. While none of these indicators guarantees a broader market downturn, Maley believes investors should monitor them in the weeks ahead.

Wall Street has a funny way of interpreting good news sometimes. Samsung Electronics (SSNLF +0.00%) posted earnings that would make most companies weep with joy, and investors responded by hitting the sell button across the entire semiconductor sector. Yep, a South Korean tech giant sent the all-American market indexes into significant declines today.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI 0.23%) fell 0.4% by 11:26 a.m. ET. The S&P 500 (^GSPC 0.28%) dropped 0.6%, while the Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC 0.70%) tumbled 1.3%.

The sell-the-news playbook strikes again Samsung didn't exactly announce earnings today. The company set the release date to July 30, alongside fresh guidance figures based on preliminary results. Revenue is up by approximately 129% year-over-year while operating profits surged 19-fold. Those are impressive results, powered by global demand for AI hardware. Samsung is both a leading chip designer and a top-three manufacturer of other companies' chip blueprints.
The results are impressive, but some investors expected even more. The stock was priced for even greater growth, and Samsung's stock was 10% lower when the Korean market closed.
The impact on American sector peers was immediate and brutal. Memory-chip rival Micron Technology (MU 5.74%) is down by 7.2%, microchip veteran Intel (INTC 9.55%) fell 10.6%, and chip-making equipment provider Lam Research (LRCX 7.27%) dropped 7.7%. That's terrible news for the Nasdaq indexes, where these chip giants carry heavy weightings.
Samsung's impact was milder on the S&P 500 index, where significant price jumps in NYSE healthcare stocks offset the tech rout. The Dow is showing 17 gainers and 13 losers right now. So Wall Street didn't take the AI hardware drawdowns as a broader market collapse.

Still, industrial titans Caterpillar (CAT 4.10%) and Honeywell International (HON 2.75%) posted declines of 5.8% and 8.5%, respectively. Combined, the two stocks erased 355 points from the Dow's index score. AI data center construction connects them to the Samsung story, and Caterpillar just announced the acquisition of privately held Skycatch, which surveys mining job sites with high-quality drone cameras.
But let's get back to Samsung. The market's logic here is essentially: "If things are this good now, they can only get worse." Investors decided Samsung's blowout quarter was a peak signal rather than proof of sustained demand.
Space Exploration Technologies (SPCX 5.22%) picked an unfortunate day to join the Nasdaq-100 index. The rocket and AI company dropped 5.4% in its debut as an index component. The Invesco QQQ Trust ETF (QQQ 1.31%), which tracks the Nasdaq-100 index, is down by 1.8%.
Oil had a good day, which usually means something caught fire somewhere. Sure enough, a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz was struck by a projectile early Tuesday. Iranian state television said the ship ignored warnings. The United States Oil Fund (USO +2.55%) jumped 2.3%. Negotiations between Washington and Tehran remain on hold until funeral processions for Supreme Leader Khamenei conclude on July 9.

The week ahead Three days of chip selling after an 82% first-half rally might just be healthy profit-taking. Or it might be the market finally acknowledging that AI expectations had gotten ahead of themselves. Either way, I expect more volatility this week.
Chip valuations had grown stretched after months of AI enthusiasm. Maybe too stretched. Samsung's earnings were genuinely impressive, and the reaction suggests investors care more about what comes next than about current results. That's not a healthy market mood.
Upcoming chip earnings and guidance will determine whether this is a brief pause or something more significant.

That's what the Zacks Focus List, a portfolio of 50 stocks, offers investors. Not only does it serve as a starting point for long-term investors, but all stocks included in the list are poised to outperform the market over the next 12 months.
Additionally, each selection is accompanied by a full Zacks Analyst Report, something that makes the Focus List even more valuable. The report explains in detail why each stock was picked and why we believe it's good for the long-term.
The portfolio's past performance only solidifies why investors should consider it as a starting point. For 2020, the Focus List gained 13.85% on an annualized basis compared to the S&P 500's return of 9.38%. Cumulatively, the portfolio has returned 2,519.23% while the S&P returned 854.95%. Returns are for the period of February 1, 1996 to March 31, 2021.
Focus List MethodologyWhen stocks are picked for the Focus List, it reflects our enduring reliance on the power of earnings estimate revisions.
Brokerage analysts are in charge of determining a company's growth and profitability expectations, or earnings estimates. These analysts work together with company management to evaluate all factors that may affect future earnings, like interest rates, the economy, and sector and industry optimism.
Investors also need to look at what a company will earn down the road. This is why earnings estimate revisions are so important.
The stocks that receive positive changes to earnings estimates are more likely to receive even more upward changes in the future. Take this example: if an analyst raised their estimates last month, they'll probably do so again this month, and other analysts will follow.
Harnessing the power of earnings estimate revisions is where the Zacks Rank comes in. The Zacks Rank, which is a unique, proprietary stock-rating model, employs earnings estimate revisions to make it easier to build a winning portfolio.
Four primary factors make up the Zacks Rank: Agreement, Magnitude, Upside, and Surprise. Each is given a raw score that's recalculated every night and compiled into the Rank, and with this data, stocks are then classified into five groups, ranging from "Strong Buy" to "Strong Sell."
The Focus List is comprised of stocks hand-picked from a long list of #1 (Strong Buy) or #2 (Buy) ranked companies, meaning that each new addition boasts a bullish earnings consensus among analysts.
Because stock prices react to revisions, buying stocks with rising earnings estimates can be very profitable. Focus List stocks offer investors a great opportunity to get into companies whose future earnings estimates will be raised, potentially leading to price momentum.
Focus List Spotlight: Lam Research (LRCX - Free Report) Fremont, CA-based Lam Research supplies wafer fabrication equipment and services to the semiconductor industry. Investors seek growth stocks to capitalize on above-average growth in financials that help these securities grab the market's attention and produce exceptional returns. But finding a growth stock that can live up to its true potential can be a tough task.
Studies have shown that stocks with the best growth features consistently outperform the market. And returns are even better for stocks that possess the combination of a Growth Score of A or B and a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) or 2 (Buy).
Here are three of the most important factors that make the stock of this semiconductor equipment maker a great growth pick right now.
Earnings GrowthArguably nothing is more important than earnings growth, as surging profit levels is what most investors are after. For growth investors, double-digit earnings growth is highly preferable, as it is often perceived as an indication of strong prospects (and stock price gains) for the company under consideration.
While the historical EPS growth rate for Lam Research is 8.5%, investors should actually focus on the projected growth. The company's EPS is expected to grow 38.3% this year, crushing the industry average, which calls for EPS growth of 32.1%.
The company's annualized cash flow growth rate has been 16.6% over the past 3-5 years versus the industry average of 5.9%.
Promising Earnings Estimate RevisionsBeyond the metrics outlined above, investors should consider the trend in earnings estimate revisions. A positive trend is a plus here. Empirical research shows that there is a strong correlation between trends in earnings estimate revisions and near-term stock price movements.
There have been upward revisions in current-year earnings estimates for Lam Research. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for the current year has surged 1.5% over the past month.
Bottom LineWhile the overall earnings estimate revisions have made Lam Research a Zacks Rank #2 stock, it has earned itself a Growth Score of B based on a number of factors, including the ones discussed above.
You can see the complete list of today's Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here.
This combination indicates that Lam Research is a potential outperformer and a solid choice for growth investors.
Micron Technology (MU 4.33%) delivered fantastic results for the third quarter of fiscal 2026 (which ended on May 28) on June 24. The memory specialist not just crushed Wall Street's expectations by a mile, but its guidance made it clear that the red-hot demand for memory chips isn't going away any time soon.
Micron stock jumped nearly 16% after its blowout quarterly report. The company's performance lifted other memory stocks as well, and Lam Research (LRCX 8.57%) was one of them. Lam Research supplies semiconductor manufacturing equipment to chipmakers, foundries, and memory manufacturers. Its shares jumped over 7% following Micron's results. Let's see why that was the case.
Booming memory chip demand is boosting Micron Technology's capex Micron's fiscal Q3 revenue shot up by 346% year over year to $41.5 billion last quarter. However, its earnings per share grew by a whopping 1,215%. Micron management noted on the latest earnings call that demand for both dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) and NAND flash "continues to significantly exceed industry supply."

What's more, management added that the tight supply conditions will persist beyond 2027, primarily due to AI-fueled demand from data centers, high-end personal computers (PCs), smartphones, vehicles, and robots. Also, Micron notes that demand for high-performance, high-value memory chips is increasing to support AI workloads, which is why the company is on track to significantly ramp up the build-out of new capacity.
The addition of new capacity explains why Micron's capital expenditure in fiscal 2026 is going to land at $27 billion. That's nearly double Micron's capex in fiscal 2025. The company also notes that its quarterly capex in fiscal 2027 will be higher than in fiscal Q4. Micron is forecasting $10 billion in capital spending this quarter, indicating that its fiscal 2027 capex will exceed $40 billion.
Importantly, Micron isn't the only memory manufacturer adding new capacity. Korean memory giant SK Hynix intends to double its wafer capacity over the next five years. Samsung, meanwhile, is planning to spend an enormous $648 billion in South Korea over the next decade to shore up chip production, as reported by Reuters.
All this bodes well for Lam Research, which gets 39% of its revenue from selling memory manufacturing equipment. On the other hand, it derives 54% of its revenue from the sale of foundry equipment. So, Lam is in a solid position to sustain the impressive revenue and earnings growth it has been clocking in recent quarters.

Strong memory equipment spending should be a tailwind for Lam Research stock Lam Research's revenue has increased by 24.4% in the first nine months of fiscal 2026 to $16.5 billion. Its fiscal Q4 revenue guidance of $6.6 billion indicates that Lam's top line this year will land at $23.1 billion, an increase of 25% over last year. The strong memory spending environment explains why analysts are expecting a spike in Lam's revenue growth in fiscal 2027, followed by another solid increase in fiscal 2028.
Data by YCharts
However, Lam's growth rate could continue to accelerate beyond fiscal 2027, given that the memory shortage is not expected to ease until 2030. SK Hynix estimates that memory wafer supply will trail demand by 20% through 2030, suggesting that memory manufacturers will need to add more capacity. So, Lam's revenue and earnings growth can exceed Wall Street's expectations over the long run.
Lam's earnings are expected to increase to $9.91 per share in fiscal 2028, as evidenced by the following chart.
Data by YCharts
Assuming it can clock 20% annual bottom-line growth in fiscal years 2029 and 2030, its earnings per share could increase to $14.27 after four years. If this AI stock trades at 39.5 times earnings at that time (in line with the tech-focused Nasdaq Composite index's average earnings multiple), its price could reach $564. That represents a potential upside of 44% over the next four years, though stronger gains cannot be ruled out, given the solid memory demand and the ongoing supply shortage.
So, it isn't too late for investors to buy this growth stock that has appreciated 111% so far this year, as it is sitting on a terrific catalyst that could send it even higher.
In the latest close session, Lam Research (LRCX - Free Report) was down 9.73% at $391.17. This change lagged the S&P 500's daily loss of 0.22%. Elsewhere, the Dow lost 0.03%, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq lost 0.66%.

If you are looking for a stock that has a solid history of beating earnings estimates and is in a good position to maintain the trend in its next quarterly report, you should consider Lam Research (LRCX - Free Report) . This company, which is in the Zacks Electronics - Semiconductors industry, shows potential for another earnings beat.
This semiconductor equipment maker has an established record of topping earnings estimates, especially when looking at the previous two reports. The company boasts an average surprise for the past two quarters of 8.32%.
For the most recent quarter, Lam Research was expected to post earnings of $1.36 per share, but it reported $1.47 per share instead, representing a surprise of 8.09%. For the previous quarter, the consensus estimate was $1.17 per share, while it actually produced $1.27 per share, a surprise of 8.55%.
Price and EPS Surprise
With this earnings history in mind, recent estimates have been moving higher for Lam Research. In fact, the Zacks Earnings ESP (Expected Surprise Prediction) for the company is positive, which is a great sign of an earnings beat, especially when you combine this metric with its nice Zacks Rank.
Our research shows that stocks with the combination of a positive Earnings ESP and a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) or better produce a positive surprise nearly 70% of the time. In other words, if you have 10 stocks with this combination, the number of stocks that beat the consensus estimate could be as high as seven.
The Zacks Earnings ESP compares the Most Accurate Estimate to the Zacks Consensus Estimate for the quarter; the Most Accurate Estimate is a version of the Zacks Consensus whose definition is related to change. The idea here is that analysts revising their estimates right before an earnings release have the latest information, which could potentially be more accurate than what they and others contributing to the consensus had predicted earlier.
Lam Research currently has an Earnings ESP of +1.05%, which suggests that analysts have recently become bullish on the company's earnings prospects. This positive Earnings ESP when combined with the stock's Zacks Rank #2 (Buy) indicates that another beat is possibly around the corner.
Investors should note, however, that a negative Earnings ESP reading is not indicative of an earnings miss, but a negative value does reduce the predictive power of this metric.
Many companies end up beating the consensus EPS estimate, though this is not the only reason why their shares gain. Additionally, some stocks may remain stable even if they end up missing the consensus estimate.
Because of this, it's really important to check a company's Earnings ESP ahead of its quarterly release to increase the odds of success. Make sure to utilize our Earnings ESP Filter to uncover the best stocks to buy or sell before they've reported.
Nancy Pelosi’s husband is a venture capitalist who has been highly successful in the stock market for nearly four decades, and all his trades (attributed to Pelosi due to their marriage) have performed incredibly well for investors. Copying their portfolio would’ve let you trounce the broader market’s gains again and again.
But what if I told you there might be another politician portfolio worth tracking?
Representative Cleo Fields from Louisiana’s 6th congressional district has a very large portfolio (we’ll get into this later), and he is serving on the House Financial Services Committee.
Why you should pay more attention to Fields’ picks Pelosi’s total portfolio remains huge, but Fields is a new AI-heavy surprise since his portfolio is at $42 million. Nancy Pelosi’s portfolio is three times bigger, but there are very few congressmen/women who have a portfolio even above just $1 million. A portfolio of that size with a huge outperformance is worth giving more attention to.
On top of that, Fields’ portfolio is not spouse-owned in the way Pelosi’s is. Instead, he buys and sells himself.
He said, “I’ve been trading stocks for a while, and it didn’t start when I was in Congress. And I don’t intend to stop while I’m at Congress.”
Late last year, Fields bought Oracle (NYSE:ORCL | ORCL Price Prediction) just before the TikTok acquisition. He’s one of the more controversial names since he’s been actively “under fire” from watchdogs that track potential insider trading.
A very active, AI-heavy portfolio Unlike Nancy Pelosi’s portfolio, you have a lot more action to work with when you look at Fields’ portfolio. His most recent trade was buying Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG) on June 15, 2026. His estimated holding value here is $1.1 million.
Four days before that, on June 11, he bought Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT). His estimated MSFT holding value is also above $1 million.
Act now: the analyst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just named his top 10 AI stocks — and Apple didn't make the cut. Grab the names FREE today.
A week before that, he bought Quantinuum (NASDAQ:QNT). It is a rather under-the-radar data science and artificial intelligence stock that went public the day of the purchase. His purchase value was between $1-15k. QNT stock is up ~30% within a month.
There are several more meaty tech buys that include Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Taiwan Semiconductor (NYSE:TSM), Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META), AMD (NASDAQ:AMD), Lam Research (NASDAQ:LRCX), and Micron (NASDAQ:MU).
All you need to know is that he is very active and seems all-in on the AI rally.
Why he could overtake Nancy Pelosi Even though Pelosi’s husband is an experienced trader, he hasn’t been as prolific recently, especially with AI. Most of the Pelosi trades are deep in-the-money call options, along with some long-term outright buys. On the other hand, Cleo Fields is adding more and more to some of the best-performing stocks.
And if this AI rally keeps continuing, he’ll be able to one-up Nancy Pelosi on yearly performance. Of course, Fields is not surpassing the Pelosis when it comes to portfolio value anytime soon, but the gains are quickly adding up.
You should follow his portfolio If it isn’t obvious already, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on his AI portfolio. Fields continues to be a stock market high roller, and he’s not sorry about heavily trading stock.
Considering the committee he’s serving, the portfolio size, plus the gains, the portfolio is still quite under the radar.
I will still avoid copying him 1:1. The stocks he is buying are the same stocks every other retail AI investor holds. Even a triple-digit annual gain isn’t hugely surprising if you look at an AI bull’s portfolio who is willing to risk tens of millions. Most of us don’t have that much financial firepower to deploy.

Investors often turn to recommendations made by Wall Street analysts before making a Buy, Sell, or Hold decision about a stock. While media reports about rating changes by these brokerage-firm employed (or sell-side) analysts often affect a stock's price, do they really matter?
Let's take a look at what these Wall Street heavyweights have to say about Lam Research (LRCX - Free Report) before we discuss the reliability of brokerage recommendations and how to use them to your advantage.
Lam Research currently has an average brokerage recommendation (ABR) of 1.57, on a scale of 1 to 5 (Strong Buy to Strong Sell), calculated based on the actual recommendations (Buy, Hold, Sell, etc.) made by 34 brokerage firms. An ABR of 1.57 approximates between Strong Buy and Buy.
Of the 34 recommendations that derive the current ABR, 22 are Strong Buy and four are Buy. Strong Buy and Buy respectively account for 64.7% and 11.8% of all recommendations.

Check price target & stock forecast for Lam Research here>>>
While the ABR calls for buying Lam Research, it may not be wise to make an investment decision solely based on this information. Several studies have shown limited to no success of brokerage recommendations in guiding investors to pick stocks with the best price increase potential.
Do you wonder why? As a result of the vested interest of brokerage firms in a stock they cover, their analysts tend to rate it with a strong positive bias. According to our research, brokerage firms assign five "Strong Buy" recommendations for every "Strong Sell" recommendation.
In other words, their interests aren't always aligned with retail investors, rarely indicating where the price of a stock could actually be heading. Therefore, the best use of this information could be validating your own research or an indicator that has proven to be highly successful in predicting a stock's price movement.
With an impressive externally audited track record, our proprietary stock rating tool, the Zacks Rank, which classifies stocks into five groups, ranging from Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) to Zacks Rank #5 (Strong Sell), is a reliable indicator of a stock's near-term price performance. So, validating the Zacks Rank with ABR could go a long way in making a profitable investment decision.
ABR Should Not Be Confused With Zacks RankIn spite of the fact that Zacks Rank and ABR both appear on a scale from 1 to 5, they are two completely different measures.
Analysts employed by brokerage firms have been and continue to be overly optimistic with their recommendations. Since the ratings issued by these analysts are more favorable than their research would support because of the vested interest of their employers, they mislead investors far more often than they guide.
In contrast, the Zacks Rank is driven by earnings estimate revisions. And near-term stock price movements are strongly correlated with trends in earnings estimate revisions, according to empirical research.
In addition, the different Zacks Rank grades are applied proportionately to all stocks for which brokerage analysts provide current-year earnings estimates. In other words, this tool always maintains a balance among its five ranks.
Is LRCX Worth Investing In?Looking at the earnings estimate revisions for Lam Research, the Zacks Consensus Estimate for the current year has increased 0.6% over the past month to $5.68.

The fundamentals support a push to $1 trillion Lam Research trades at a price-to-earnings ratio (P/E) of 81.8. While that valuation is nearly three times the S&P 500's average P/E, the company's underlying growth supports that premium valuation. Investors who can buy and hold the stock for multiple years will likely be happy getting in at current levels, especially based on Lam's first-quarter results.
Revenue increased by 24% year over year in that quarter and was up by 9% sequentially. That strong increase came with a 31.2% net profit margin, up from 28.2% in the prior-year period.
Those are solid numbers for a growth stock, but the exciting part is that its sequential revenue growth rate is projected to increase. This is an important development. When similar conditions occurred for other AI hardware companies such as Micron and Sandisk, the stocks responded with big rallies.
Second-quarter guidance implies $6.6 billion in revenue at the midpoint, which would mean 13% sequential growth. The actual results may be even better; in its fiscal Q1, Lam Research beat the guidance that it had provided in fiscal Q4 2025. Management had told investors to expect $5.7 billion in revenue at the midpoint of guidance. The company ended up reporting $5.84 billion.
Beating the midpoint of guidance again will put third-quarter revenue closer to $7 billion. The exact $7 billion figure, which is the high-end of guidance, would represent a 20% sequential growth rate. The company has proved over several quarters that it can boost profit margins while delivering higher growth. That setup, along with Lam Research's position in the AI infrastructure loop, gives it what it takes to reach a $1 trillion market cap.

The race to build humanoid robots is accelerating from science fiction to industrial reality. RBC Capital Markets expect the market to grow into a $9 trillion opportunity by 2050, once software, services, and maintenance are included. Most investor attention has centered on companies building the robots themselves. Yet history suggests the biggest long-term winners are often the businesses supplying the tools that every competitor depends on.
In the humanoid robotics boom, that makes semiconductor equipment makers ASML Holding (NASDAQ:ASML | ASML Price Prediction) and Lam Research (NASDAQ:LRCX) two of the most compelling investments.
The Robot Builders Need More Than Great Chips The companies developing humanoid robots are easy to identify. Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) has become the dominant supplier of AI processors and software through its Isaac robotics platform, while Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (NYSE:TSM) manufactures many of those advanced chips. On the hardware side, Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), Hyundai, and Xiaomi are investing billions to bring humanoid robots from research labs into factories, warehouses, and eventually homes.
Those companies could enjoy enormous revenue growth. They will also compete fiercely on price, features, and manufacturing scale. The automotive industry offers a useful comparison. Car sales expanded dramatically over the last century, yet many automakers struggled to earn consistent profits because competition steadily compressed margins.
But looking one step further upstream, while every robot needs cutting-edge AI chips, every one of those chips requires highly specialized manufacturing equipment before it ever reaches a production line. That is where ASML Holding and Lam Research stand apart.
Lam Research fills another indispensable role. The company specializes in wafer etching and deposition equipment that creates the microscopic structures inside every advanced semiconductor. Lam reported trailing 12-month revenue of almost $21.7 billion while continuing to benefit from growing investments in AI chip production.
Act now: the analyst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just named his top 10 AI stocks — and ASML didn't make the cut. Grab the names FREE today.
Regardless of which robot manufacturer ultimately captures the largest market share, nearly every advanced processor will pass through ASML’s and Lam Research’s equipment during production.
The Real Bottleneck Isn’t Robots — It’s Chip Capacity Surprisingly, the biggest constraint on humanoid robotics may not be demand but semiconductor manufacturing capacity.
Robot brains require enormous computing power to process vision, movement, speech, and decision-making in real time. That increases demand for advanced logic chips and high-bandwidth memory, benefiting companies such as Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU) and SK hynix. Yet neither memory nor processors can be produced without semiconductor fabrication plants packed with ASML and Lam Research equipment.
That creates a classic picks-and-shovels investment opportunity. Instead of betting on which robot brand consumers or businesses eventually prefer, investors should own companies supplying virtually every participant across the industry.
Key Takeaway In short, humanoid robotics could become one of the largest technology markets ever created, but the safest long-term investments may not be the companies assembling the robots. Nvidia and Taiwan Semiconductor remain essential pieces of the ecosystem, while Tesla, Hyundai, and Xiaomi are racing to commercialize the machines.
Ultimately, however, ASML and Lam Research occupy the industry’s chokepoint. Every next-generation AI chip depends on their equipment before it can power a single humanoid robot, giving both companies durable competitive advantages that could endure long after today’s robotics leaders change.

Earnings are arguably the most important single number on a company's quarterly financial report. Wall Street clearly dives into all of the other metrics and management's input, but the EPS figure helps cut through all the noise.
The earnings figure itself is key, of course, but a beat or miss on the bottom line can sometimes be just as, if not more, important. Therefore, investors should consider paying close attention to these earnings surprises, as a big beat can help a stock climb and vice versa.
Hunting for 'earnings whispers' or companies poised to beat their quarterly earnings estimates is a somewhat common practice. But that doesn't make it easy. One way that has been proven to work is by using the Zacks Earnings ESP tool.
The Zacks Earnings ESP, ExplainedThe Zacks Earnings ESP is more formally known as the Expected Surprise Prediction, and it aims to grab the inside track on the latest analyst estimate revisions ahead of a company's report. The idea is relatively intuitive as a newer projection might be based on more complete information.
With this in mind, the Expected Surprise Prediction compares the Most Accurate Estimate (being the most recent) against the overall Zacks Consensus Estimate. The percentage difference provides the ESP figure. The system also utilizes our core Zacks Rank to provide a stronger system for identifying stocks that might beat their next quarterly earnings estimate and possibly see the stock price climb.
Bringing together a positive earnings ESP alongside a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) or better has helped stocks report a positive earnings surprise 70% of the time. Furthermore, by using these parameters, investors have seen 28.3% annual returns on average, according to our 10 year backtest.
Stocks with a ranking of #3 (Hold), or 60% of all stocks covered by the Zacks Rank, are expected to perform in-line with the broader market. Stocks with rankings of #2 (Buy) and #1 (Strong Buy), or the top 15% and top 5% of stocks, respectively, should outperform the market; Strong Buy stocks should outperform more than any other rank.
Should You Consider Lam Research? Now that we understand what the ESP is and how beneficial it can be, let's dive into a stock that currently fits the bill. Lam Research (LRCX - Free Report) earns a #3 (Hold) right now and its Most Accurate Estimate sits at $1.70 a share, just 30 days from its upcoming earnings release on July 29, 2026.
LRCX has an Earnings ESP figure of +3.09%, which, as explained above, is calculated by taking the percentage difference between the $1.70 Most Accurate Estimate and the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.65. Lam Research is one of a large database of stocks with positive ESPs. Make sure to utilize our Earnings ESP Filter to uncover the best stocks to buy or sell before they've reported.
LRCX is part of a big group of Computer and Technology stocks that boast a positive ESP, and investors may want to take a look at Yelp (YELP - Free Report) as well.

For Yelp, the percentage difference between its Most Accurate Estimate and its Zacks Consensus Estimate of $0.33 is +8.43%.
LRCX and YELP's positive ESP metrics may signal that a positive earnings surprise for both stocks is on the horizon.

Breaking Down the Zacks Focus ListIf you could get access to a curated list of stocks to kickstart your investment portfolio, wouldn't you jump at the chance to take a peek?
That's what the Zacks Focus List, a portfolio of 50 stocks, offers investors. Not only does it serve as a starting point for long-term investors, but all stocks included in the list are poised to outperform the market over the next 12 months.
What makes the Focus List even more helpful is that each selection is accompanied by a full Zacks Analyst Report, which explains the reasoning behind every stock's selection and why we believe it's a good pick for the long-term.
Stocks that receive upward earnings estimate revisions are more likely to receive even more upward changes in the future. For example, if an analyst raised their estimates last month, they're more likely to do it again this month, and other analysts are likely to do the same.
Harnessing the power of earnings estimate revisions is where the Zacks Rank comes in. The Zacks Rank is a unique, proprietary stock-rating model that utilizes changes to a company's quarterly earnings expectations to help investors build a winning portfolio.
There are four main factors behind the Zacks Rank: Agreement, Magnitude, Upside, and Surprise. Each one of these features is then given a raw score that's recalculated every night and compiled into the Rank. Using this data, stocks are classified into five groups, ranging from "Strong Buy" to "Strong Sell."

Key Takeaways TXN and Lam Research both benefit from AI demand, but Texas Instruments offers the better risk-reward.TXN's data center revenues surged 90% in Q1 as demand rose for power management chips.Texas Instruments trades at a lower forward P/E than Lam Research, supporting its stronger value case. Texas Instruments Incorporated (TXN - Free Report) and Lam Research Corporation (LRCX - Free Report) are both important players in the semiconductor industry, but they operate in different parts of the supply chain. Texas Instruments focuses on analog and embedded chips used across industrial, automotive and data center applications, while Lam Research provides wafer fabrication equipment that enables chipmakers to manufacture advanced semiconductors.
Both companies are benefiting from the ongoing artificial intelligence (AI)-driven technology cycle and the broader recovery in semiconductor demand. However, investors must weigh growth prospects, profitability, risks and valuation to determine which stock offers the better opportunity today.
TXN: AI Boom and Manufacturing Strength Aid Stable GrowthTexas Instruments delivered a strong start to 2026, highlighting the benefits of its broad product portfolio and manufacturing strategy. First-quarter revenues increased 19% year over year to $4.83 billion, while earnings per share (EPS) rose 31% to $1.68.
Texas Instruments is seeing rising momentum in the data center market, which has become an important growth driver for the company. It does not compete directly in high-end AI graphics processors. Instead, it supplies analog and embedded chips that are essential for data center infrastructure. These chips help manage power delivery, battery backup systems, cooling equipment, motor controls, signal conversion and server connectivity. As modern data centers become larger and more power-intensive, the need for efficient power management solutions increases.
In 2025, Texas Instruments’ data center business reached an annual run rate of about $1.2 billion, growing more than 50% year over year. In the first quarter of 2026, revenues from the data center end market surged 90% year over year and 25% sequentially. As cloud and AI workloads continue to rise, Texas Instruments’ strong portfolio and manufacturing scale position it well to benefit from sustained demand for efficient, high-performance power solutions in data center infrastructure.
One of TXN’s biggest strengths is its manufacturing advantage. The company continues expanding its 300-millimeter wafer capacity, which supports lower production costs and stronger margins over time. In the first quarter, non-GAAP gross margin expanded 120 basis points (bps) year over year to 58%, while non-GAAP operating margin improved 490 bps to 37.5%.
Texas Instruments’ guidance for the second quarter suggests that the growth trajectory remains intact. TXN calls for second-quarter 2026 revenues in the range of $5.00-$5.40 billion. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for revenues is pegged at $5.22 billion, indicating year-over year growth of 17.4%. The company expects earnings per share between $1.77 and $2.05. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for earnings is pegged at $1.90, calling for year-over year growth of 34.8%. Estimates for second-quarter 2026 earnings have been revised upward by 22.6% in the past 60 days.
Lam Research Capitalizes on AI Spending WaveLam Research continues to benefit from rising AI-driven demand across NAND, DRAM and foundry markets. During the last earnings call, the company raised its 2026 wafer fabrication equipment (WFE) spending outlook to $140 billion from $135 billion, reflecting stronger customer spending across semiconductor segments.
In the company’s last reported financial results for the third quarter of fiscal 2026, total revenues rose 23.8% year over year to $5.84 billion and beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 1.3%, primarily driven by continued demand across the Systems and Customer Support Business Group segments. Lam Research’s non-GAAP EPS rose 41.3% year over year to $1.47 and surpassed the consensus estimate by 8.1%.
LRCX’s biggest strength lies in etch and deposition intensity tied to advanced AI chips and high-bandwidth memory. During the last earnings call, management highlighted that AI workloads are accelerating demand for higher-layer NAND and advanced DRAM nodes, areas where Lam Research has strong technological leadership. The company expects advanced packaging revenues to grow more than 50% in calendar year 2026. Its customer support business also crossed the $2 billion quarterly revenue mark for the first time, providing recurring revenue strength.
Margins are also improving steadily. Non-GAAP gross margin increased 20 basis points (bps) sequentially to 49.9% in the third quarter, while fourth-quarter guidance points to further expansion and reach 50.5%. Non-GAAP operating margin grew 70 bps quarter over quarter to 35% and is expected to reach 36.5% in the fourth quarter, supported by manufacturing efficiencies and strong product demand.
Lam Research’s fourth-quarter guidance indicates growth momentum will continue in the near term. For the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, LRCX expects revenues to be $6.60 billion (+/- $400 million). The Zacks Consensus Estimate for revenues is pegged at $6.65 billion, indicating year-over-year growth of 28.7%. The company expects EPS of $1.65 (+/- $0.15) for the fourth quarter. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for earnings is pegged at $1.65, suggesting year-over-year growth of 24.1%. Estimates for third-quarter fiscal 2026 earnings have been revised upward by 14.6% in the past 60 days.
Valuation Comparison: TXN Holds the EdgeWhile both companies are benefiting from the AI boom, valuation is where Texas Instruments gains a meaningful advantage. TXN currently trades at a forward P/E multiple of 36.94, lower than LRCX’s 48.82. While Lam Research’s higher multiple reflects its stronger near-term growth outlook, investors are already paying a significant premium for that growth.
LRCX has clearly outperformed in 2026, with shares gaining 121.3% year to date compared with TXN’s 74.4% increase. However, the stronger rally also raises the possibility that much of the AI-driven optimism is already reflected in Lam Research’s stock price. Texas Instruments offers exposure to industrial automation, automotive electronics and data center growth while trading at a more reasonable valuation.
Conclusion: TXN Seems a Better Bet Right NowBoth Texas Instruments and Lam Research remain attractive semiconductor investments with strong long-term prospects. Lam Research offers faster near-term growth and stands to benefit directly from rising semiconductor equipment spending driven by AI. However, that opportunity comes with greater exposure to industry spending cycles and a much richer valuation.
Texas Instruments offers a more balanced investment case. The company is benefiting from AI-related data center growth, strengthening industrial demand and a long-term manufacturing strategy that should continue to improve margins. Combined with its lower valuation and more diversified end markets, TXN provides a better mix of growth, stability and value. For investors seeking the stronger risk-reward opportunity today, Texas Instruments appears to be the better investment.
Texas Instruments sports a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) at present, while Lam Research carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy). You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank stocks here.
Momentum investing is all about the idea of following a stock's recent trend, which can be in either direction. In the "long context," investors will essentially be "buying high, but hoping to sell even higher." And for investors following this methodology, taking advantage of trends in a stock's price is key; once a stock establishes a course, it is more than likely to continue moving in that direction. The goal is that once a stock heads down a fixed path, it will lead to timely and profitable trades.
Even though momentum is a popular stock characteristic, it can be tough to define. Debate surrounding which are the best and worst metrics to focus on is lengthy, but the Zacks Momentum Style Score, part of the Zacks Style Scores, helps address this issue for us.
Below, we take a look at Lam Research (LRCX - Free Report) , a company that currently holds a Momentum Style Score of A. We also talk about price change and earnings estimate revisions, two of the main aspects of the Momentum Style Score.
It's also important to note that Style Scores work as a complement to the Zacks Rank, our stock rating system that has an impressive track record of outperformance. Lam Research currently has a Zacks Rank of #2 (Buy). Our research shows that stocks rated Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) and #2 (Buy) and Style Scores of "A or B" outperform the market over the following one-month period.

Set to Beat the Market? In order to see if LRCX is a promising momentum pick, let's examine some Momentum Style elements to see if this semiconductor equipment maker holds up.
Looking at a stock's short-term price activity is a great way to gauge if it has momentum, since this can reflect both the current interest in a stock and if buyers or sellers have the upper hand at the moment. It's also helpful to compare a security to its industry; this can show investors the best companies in a particular area.
For LRCX, shares are up 20.95% over the past week while the Zacks Electronics - Semiconductors industry is up 6.05% over the same time period. Shares are looking quite well from a longer time frame too, as the monthly price change of 28.1% compares favorably with the industry's 5.39% performance as well.
Considering longer term price metrics, like performance over the last three months or year, can be advantageous as well. Over the past quarter, shares of Lam Research have risen 60.28%, and are up 305.66% in the last year. On the other hand, the S&P 500 has only moved 11.07% and 25.39%, respectively.
Investors should also take note of LRCX's average 20-day trading volume. Volume is a useful item in many ways, and the 20-day average establishes a good price-to-volume baseline; a rising stock with above average volume is generally a bullish sign, whereas a declining stock on above average volume is typically bearish. Right now LRCX is averaging 10,123,531 shares for the last 20 days..
Earnings OutlookThe Zacks Momentum Style Score also takes into account trends in estimate revisions, in addition to price changes. Please note that estimate revision trends remain at the core of Zacks Rank as well. A nice path here can help show promise, and we have recently been seeing that with LRCX.
Over the past two months, 13 earnings estimates moved higher compared to none lower for the full year. These revisions helped boost LRCX's consensus estimate, increasing from $5.30 to $5.70 in the past 60 days. Looking at the next fiscal year, 11 estimates have moved upwards while there have been no downward revisions in the same time period.
Bottom LineTaking into account all of these elements, it should come as no surprise that LRCX is a #2 (Buy) stock with a Momentum Score of A. If you've been searching for a fresh pick that's set to rise in the near-term, make sure to keep Lam Research on your short list.
On June 18, 2026, Lam Research Corp LRCX shares rose 4.0% to $389.04, continuing a strong performance with a year-to-date increase of 127.7%. The stock has fluctuated between a 52-week low of $87.75 and a high of $401.00 in the past year, showcasing significant volatility.
GF Value™ verdict: Current price of $389.04 is 199.9% overvalued compared to the GF Value™ of $129.74.GF Score™ of 85/100 indicates a strong overall performance, suggesting robust financial health and growth potential.Insider activity shows that insiders sold $47.7M worth of shares in the last 3 months, indicating a lack of buying interest from those closer to the company. Is LRCX Overvalued or Undervalued? According to GuruFocus, Lam Research Corp LRCX is currently assessed as significantly overvalued, with a GF Value™ of $129.74. This valuation suggests a daunting 199.9% margin of overvaluation based on the current share price of $389.04. The disparity signifies that the market price may not be supported by the company's intrinsic value, posing a risk for potential investors. GF Value™ is GuruFocus' proprietary measure of intrinsic value, calculated from historical trading multiples, past business growth, and future performance estimates.
The significant gap between the current price and GF Value™ indicates that LRCX is trading at levels that may not be sustainable, especially in light of the stock's recent price rally. Investors should be cautious, as this overvaluation may lead to a correction if the market realigns with the company's intrinsic value. With a prevailing GF Valuation label of "Significantly Overvalued," the current price raises concerns about the sustainability of future growth and profitability.
How Does LRCX's Valuation Compare to Its History? Metric Current Historical P/E (TTM) 73.4x 23.2x Forward P/E 49.1x N/A The current P/E (TTM) of 73.4x is significantly above its 5-year median P/E of 23.2x, reflecting a 217% increase. This analysis aligns with the GF Value™ verdict that suggests overvaluation, as the stock is trading well above its historical valuation metrics. Such a high P/E ratio indicates that the market has high expectations for future growth, which may not be justified given the company’s current financial standing.
What Does LRCX's GF Score™ Tell Us? Metric Rating GF Score™ 85/100 Financial Strength 8/10 Profitability 10/10 Growth 10/10 Valuation 1/10 Momentum 6/10 The GF Score™ of 85/100 reflects strong performance across several key dimensions. Notably, Lam Research Corp boasts perfect scores in Profitability and Growth, indicating robust financial performance and bright growth prospects. However, its Valuation score of 1/10 is a significant red flag, highlighting that the current stock price is not justified based on historical valuation metrics. This discrepancy suggests that while the company has strong fundamentals, the market price does not reflect its true value.
What Are Insiders Doing with LRCX Stock? In the past three months, insiders have sold $47.7 million worth of LRCX shares, with no reported buying activity. This trend of selling by insiders can be interpreted as a lack of confidence in maintaining the current stock price levels, potentially indicating that they believe the stock is overvalued. Insider selling often raises concerns among investors, as it may suggest that those with the most knowledge of the company are not optimistic about its near-term prospects.
What This Means for Investors Based on the analysis, Lam Research Corp LRCX is currently deemed overvalued according to the GF Value™ metric. The disparity between its market price and intrinsic value underscores the risks associated with current investment levels. Investors may wish to exercise caution due to the substantial overvaluation and the recent insider selling trends.
