Bonk Guy: I’m completely unfazed by pullbacks, and my portfolio will eventually exceed $50 million.
Renowned trader Bonk Guy posted that his portfolio on Fomo has pulled back roughly $9 million from its peak in less than a week. Last week, the portfolio hit a high of over $28.5 million, and today it dropped to a low of $19 million — a side of trading no one likes to discuss. Everyone loves showing off winning trades; I went from almost nothing to over $28 million in just a few months. But no one wants to share what happens when your portfolio loses $9 million in a matter of days. However, to build generational wealth through trading, you have to weather this kind of volatility. To move upward, you have to survive the drawdowns. I’m completely unfazed by this pullback. I’m very confident my portfolio will hit new highs, then reach $50 million, and keep climbing. The wins are real, the drawdowns are real, the volatility is real — and I’m still in the game.

As prediction markets gain traction, more businesses are looking to add forecasting tools to their existing apps. Gate, a Panama-based cryptocurrency exchange, is seeking to meet that demand with infrastructure that lets companies integrate those features into their own products. Launched in August, the service is open to brokers, Web3 applications, and trading platforms alike. The product, called Event Contracts Builder, is part of Gate’s decentralized-exchange infrastructure platform, Gate DexBuilder.
“These companies can quickly integrate prediction market functionality [and] not have to spend a ton of tech resources … to build the entire infra behind it,” Jason Fung, head of Gate DexBuilder, told Fortune.
The exchange’s expansion comes amid an explosion in the popularity of prediction markets. These platforms, which allow bettors to place wagers on virtually everything, are serving as a new way to gauge public sentiment. Kalshi and Polymarket dominate the industry, and consumer-facing businesses have begun incorporating their market data and event contracts into their own products.
Gate itself first entered that ecosystem as a Polymarket partner. Earlier this year, the exchange integrated Polymarket Builder, a tool that lets exchanges and apps offer Polymarket’s existing prediction markets within their own products. Fung said Gate was the first exchange to integrate it. That experience helped shape Gate’s own offering, and inspired it to compete with its former partner.
Besides the Event Contracts Builder, Gate has launched a $3 million grant program to support companies developing event contract products. Fung said the funding comes entirely from Gate and can help cover development costs. Selected builders may also receive technical assistance, marketing support, and media promotion. The program is still in its early stages, and Gate is reviewing its first group of applicants.
From gaming to crypto Before crypto, Fung started his career in media and entertainment, with a focus on gaming. During that period, he lived in Canada and held roles at organizations including media and technology company BroadbandTV and e-sports website Azubu. Fung later moved to China and spent five years working for tech giants like Alibaba and ByteDance, where he worked on TikTok Global.
He eventually entered the crypto space during the ecosystem’s 2021–22 boom and bust period, and pursued what he now regards as short-lived Web3 narratives. Exhausted by that experience, Fung transitioned to more established roles, working for the layer 1 Sei Foundation and then AP Finance, the U.S. arm of centralized exchange Bybit.
In July, Fung joined Gate to further expand the globally distributed exchange. Though remote, the 13-year-old company operates hubs in Hong Kong, Japan, Dubai, and Malta, alongside its North American entity, Gate U.S.

PANews, September 2 - According to official platform data, the number of registered users on Gate has surpassed 60 million, marking a new stage in the platform's global development. As a global digital asset trading platform, Gate's continuously expanding user base reflects global users' recognition of its product capabilities, service experience, and brand value, and also demonstrates the platform's influence and long-term development potential in the digital asset industry. The platform supports trading in over 5,000 digital assets and more than 12,800 stocks and ETF assets. Centered on the investment, trading, and asset management needs of users in different regions, it continues to improve its product and service system, gradually expanding from digital asset trading to diverse scenarios such as stocks, ETFs, wealth management, payments, wallets, and Web3 applications, and further covering diverse asset services including RWA, foreign exchange, metals, and commodities.
Gate has built a 24/7 trading service system covering the U.S., Hong Kong, South Korean, and Japanese stock markets, supporting more than 10,000 U.S. stocks and ETFs, over 1,500 Hong Kong stocks, more than 1,000 South Korean stocks, and around 300 Japanese stocks, while also providing services such as fractional share trading, dividend entitlements, stock splits and reverse splits, and cross-broker transfers for U.S. and Hong Kong stocks. The platform pioneered zero-interest trading for U.S. stocks and has laid out products including stocks, Pre-IPOs, direct IPO access, and gStocks tokenized stocks. Relying on its continuously expanding user base, diversified asset service capabilities, and ecosystem infrastructure development, Gate is accelerating toward becoming a one-stop global digital financial ecosystem connecting the digital asset and traditional financial markets.
PANews reported on September 1 that Gate has officially launched a USD order book, bringing USD, USDC, USD1, RLUSD, and other USD-denominated quote currencies into the same spot market, sharing order depth and concentrating liquidity. Users can access this feature after upgrading the Gate App to v8.35 or above, or via the web version. Taking BTC/USD as an example, users can choose to place orders in USD, USDC, USD1, or RLUSD based on their account holdings. Orders in different currencies all enter the BTC/USD market for matching, with prices and depth uniformly displayed in USD. Even if buyers and sellers use different currencies, the system can automatically complete conversion, deduction, and clearing and settlement without requiring manual exchange in advance, reducing the operational cost of switching between multiple similar quote markets.
Compared with establishing independent quote markets for different stablecoins, a shared order book can concentrate depth scattered across multiple USD-denominated currencies into the same market, providing users with clearer market data and a smoother trading experience, while also helping improve the efficiency of platform liquidity allocation. The current feature only supports spot trading. The specific supported currencies may vary by region, account, or trading pair, and may later be expanded to more stablecoins pegged 1:1 to USD. This upgrade improves the connections among asset management, exchange, and spot usage within Gate's USD ecosystem, providing new market infrastructure for coordination among multiple USD assets.

A suspected money mule for overseas scammers has been taken into custody at a Canadian airport while attempting to board a flight out of North America.
The individual, who resided in New Jersey on a student visa, allegedly collected cash and gold bars from victims targeted by fraudsters based in India, reports The Record.
Prosecutors allege the scheme involved at least nine victims in New York and New Jersey, most in their 70s and 80s, who were tricked into surrendering funds by callers posing as law enforcement or government officials.
Victims were instructed to hand over cash, gold, or gift cards under false pretenses involving drugs or identity theft.
The suspect allegedly earned around $90,000 for his role and deposited the funds into a US bank account.
Authorities say he was first detained last December but continued the activity after release.
He faced a second arrest in August and was released on conditions before driving across the Peace Bridge into Canada.
Canadian officials detained him at the gate in Toronto as he waited for a flight to Doha.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by US and Indian authorities to disrupt scam operations that prey on older adults through phone and internet ruses.
Charges include wire fraud and money laundering, each carrying potential prison terms of up to 20 years.
At 5:36 p.m. on August 26, 2021, a lone ISIS-K terrorist pressed into the crowd at Abbey Gate in Kabul, Afghanistan, and detonated a body-worn bomb. The terrorist was one of the thousands of prisoners released by the Taliban just 2 months earlier. As a result, 13 American service members were killed, 45 were wounded, and more than 160 civilians were injured.
As a Nation, it is our sacred duty to honor — with the deepest respect and reverence — the men and women in uniform who gave their lives that day, to remember all that was taken from their families, and to never forget their names: Staff Sergeant Ryan C. Knauss, USA; Staff Sergeant Darin T. Hoover, USMC; Sergeant Johanny Rosario Pichardo, USMC; Sergeant Nicole L. Gee, USMC; Corporal Hunter Lopez, USMC; Corporal Daegan W. Page, USMC; Corporal Humberto A. Sanchez, USMC; Lance Corporal David L. Espinoza, USMC; Lance Corporal Jared M. Schmitz, USMC; Lance Corporal Rylee J. McCollum, USMC; Lance Corporal Dylan R. Merola, USMC; Lance Corporal Kareem M. Nikoui, USMC; and Petty Officer Third Class Maxton W. Soviak, USN.
On the fifth anniversary of the attack at Abbey Gate, we solemnly honor their selflessness and valor.
For 20 years, the brave warriors of the United States Armed Forces fought across the mountains and cities of Afghanistan to destroy terrorism and remove the Taliban from power. Yet within months, President Biden squandered those hard-fought gains, putting politics over strategy and rushing through a poorly executed withdrawal that would soon become one of the worst military disasters in our Nation’s history.
On July 2, 2021, President Biden withdrew American forces from Bagram Airfield in the middle of the night without even notifying the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces. The decision surrendered our largest military base in the country, lost billions of dollars of military equipment, and left our remaining forces without its strategic advantages as the Taliban rapidly advanced. Within weeks, the Taliban seized Bagram and freed thousands of terrorists and criminals from its prisons. Kabul soon fell, leaving our troops to carry out a desperate evacuation at Hamid Karzai International Airport amid the devastating collapse the previous administration’s incompetence had invited.
As Commander in Chief, I will always put America First and defend our sovereignty. I was proud to apprehend the ISIS-K terrorist responsible for the atrocity and bring him to face the swift sword of American justice. I will always stand by our service members, support our military families, and I will never allow the failures that led to Abbey Gate to be repeated. On this solemn anniversary, we renew our sacred promise to the 13 fallen service members and their families that we will always remember their names, cherish their memory, and never forget the price they paid for our country.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim August 26, 2026, as a day in commemoration of the 5th anniversary of the attack at Abbey Gate. I encourage all Americans to remember the heroism of the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, and the Gold Star Families who carry on their proud legacy.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-sixth day of August, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-six, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fifty-first.

Genius Group plans to resume buying Bitcoin in Q4, with the goal of growing its Bitcoin treasury to $827 million by fiscal year 2031.
Genius Group announces a $1.2 billion capital plan, intending to use the shelf registration declared effective by the U.S. SEC in July 2025 to raise funds for its dual AI and Bitcoin treasuries. The company’s board of directors has approved goals to build an $800 million AI treasury and an $827 million Bitcoin treasury by fiscal 2031, while boosting total assets to $2 billion. Genius Group plans to use perpetual preferred securities as its primary financing instrument, a method it says is designed to increase net asset value (NAV) per share and reduce dilution of common shareholders. The firm intends to first issue $12.5 million in perpetual preferred securities, which are expected to be non-convertible and pay floating returns monthly. Proceeds will be allocated to the AI treasury, Bitcoin treasury, and a U.S. dollar reserve covering approximately 18 months of preferred stock dividends; specific terms and timing of the offering have not yet been finalized. Currently, the company holds a net asset value of $106.6 million, with a NAV per share of $0.62, and its closing price on August 26 stood at $0.18 per share. Genius Group projects its NAV per share could rise to $2–$4 over the next five years, though this target depends on financing execution and market conditions. The firm previously exited its Bitcoin holdings and plans to resume purchasing BTC in the fourth quarter of 2026.

realtrumpcoins has not launched or authorized any digital tokens and is cooperating with law enforcement agencies to investigate related incidents.
realtrumpcoins released a statement saying reports that Trump Coins has launched, promoted or authorized digital tokens are "completely untrue", noting the information is a malicious act by a third party. The statement emphasized that Trump Coins has never authorized any digital tokens, and will not launch, promote or authorize any such tokens in the future. It is currently cooperating with relevant law enforcement agencies to investigate the incident and seek to hold responsible parties accountable. Earlier reports noted that meme coin GOLD was created on Solana at 7:38 yesterday. Related addresses controlled more than 82% of the token’s total supply via distribution and post-launch buying. Around 9 a.m., Trump merchandise partner account @realtrumpcoins1 posted a tweet containing the GOLD contract address, pushing the token’s market cap to a peak of $66 million. At around 11:48 a.m., the tweet was deleted, and the associated addresses immediately began concentrated selling. GOLD’s market cap plummeted from $55 million to $1 million in roughly 30 seconds; the scammers then continued to offload their holdings, eventually selling all their tokens for a total profit of approximately 9,784.6 SOL (equivalent to around $1.01 million).

Sony and Warner Sue Anthropic, Accusing the Firm of "Brazenly Stealing" Intellectual Property
Beating AI News Flash: Sony Music and Warner Music’s publishing subsidiaries sued Anthropic in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on Friday evening, naming CEO Dario Amodei and co-founder Benjamin Mann as defendants, accusing the firm of large-scale music copyright infringement during the development and operation of its Claude AI model series. In a 48-page complaint, plaintiffs allege Anthropic obtained copyrighted works through illegal seed downloading, scraping, and other means, and used "tens of thousands" of musical works to train its models—far exceeding the scope of BMG’s prior related lawsuit over 493 works. They further accuse Anthropic of pirating thousands of copyrighted musical works, seeking hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages for each infringing work. Anthropic responded: "We disagree with the publishers’ allegations and will actively defend ourselves in court." Earlier, Anthropic reached a $1.5 billion copyright settlement with writers and publishers in September 2025.

Well-known trader Killa: It is highly unlikely that Bitcoin will fall to $50,000 in October, and $62,000 has become the bottom of this cycle.
Renowned trader Killa stated in a post tonight that data from Bitcoin’s multiple bull and bear cycles shows the depth of bear markets is gradually shrinking, and the bottom of this cycle may have already formed. The expectation of some who missed out on gains that Bitcoin will fall to $50,000 in October is highly unlikely. However, Killa also pointed out that if Bitcoin drops to $61,000, the expected value of long positions being liquidated could reach as high as $20 billion, noting that market makers have the motivation and possibility to liquidate long positions before re-establishing new ones. Killa, a quantitative trader focused on BTC, previously predicted the peak of this bull market in May 2025 and has over 200,000 followers on X. In mid-April, he shorted Bitcoin at $74,688 and switched to long positions during the broad market sell-off on June 5.

In terms of fund flows, BTC and ETH spot ETFs recorded net inflows of approximately $1.918 billion and $693 million respectively, as institutional capital allocation visibly warmed up. At the same time, trading focus in TradFi markets continued to shift toward equities, with Gate TradFi weekly trading volume at around $105 billion, remaining above the $100 billion level.
Risk appetite in on-chain markets recovered in tandem. Trading activity in ecosystems such as Base and Solana clearly rebounded, with trading volumes for protocols such as Aerodrome, Meteora, and Raydium growing sharply. LST, Aave borrowing, and stablecoin supply expanded at the same time, indicating that on-chain funds are re-entering activities such as trading, staking, and leverage. Among these, USDC and RLUSD were the main drivers of stablecoin supply growth. In derivatives, BTC open interest rose to around $12.6 billion and funding rates moved higher. Meanwhile, 25D Skew fell to around -5.2%, and DVOL rose to 42–44, reflecting that while the market is maintaining medium-term upside exposure, it is significantly increasing the pricing of short-term pullback risk.
This week, ETF fund inflows returned, the share of TradFi equity trading increased, and on-chain trading and leverage demand recovered, reflecting institutional funds reallocating across different markets and assets. Around this trend, Gate Institutional continues to integrate TradFi, spot, derivatives, and institutional-grade liquidity and API capabilities, improving the efficiency of cross-market trading, execution, and risk management for professional users, and providing more flexible infrastructure support for multi-asset allocation in volatile environments.
According to the official announcement, Gate has released its latest Proof of Reserves report. As of August 19, 2026, Gate’s total reserves increased to $8.215 billion, with an overall reserve ratio of 127%, remaining well above the industry security benchmark of 100%. The ample surplus reserves further strengthen the platform’s ability to withstand market volatility and potential liquidity risks, reflecting its robust asset management and risk control capabilities.
Reserve holdings for core assets continued to grow. BTC user holdings increased from 21,557 BTC in the previous report to 22,436 BTC, while Gate’s reserve holdings rose from 26,775 BTC to 27,550 BTC, representing an excess reserve ratio of 22.79%. ETH user holdings increased from 374,348 ETH to 375,429 ETH, while the platform’s reserve holdings grew from 456,798 ETH to 458,203 ETH, with an excess reserve ratio of 22.05%.
For stablecoins, total user assets across USDT, USDC, USD1, and GUSD increased from $1.336 billion in the previous report to $1.578 billion, while the platform’s corresponding reserves rose from $1.59 billion to $1.761 billion. This represents an aggregate reserve ratio of 111.63% and an excess reserve ratio of 11.63%.
In addition, major assets such as GT and XRP maintained reserve ratios well above the 100% benchmark, reaching 131.15% and 116.09%.
Gate has consistently regarded asset security and transparent governance as fundamental to the platform’s long-term development. As one of the early platforms in the industry to advance proof-of-reserves transparency, Gate continues to improve its publicly accessible and verifiable reserve mechanisms. Through technologies and solutions including zero-knowledge proofs (ZKP), Merkle tree verification, hot and cold wallet management, and user asset snapshots, Gate enhances the transparency and verifiability of reserve disclosures. At the same time, Gate continues to strengthen its internal risk management framework, implementing multiple measures such as asset segregation, access control, and security audits to enhance asset security and operational management capabilities, supporting the platform’s long-term and stable operations.
Building on its robust security and infrastructure foundation, Gate continues to expand its product ecosystem and global asset services. The platform now serves more than 59 million users worldwide and supports trading in over 4,900 crypto assets and more than 12,800 stocks and ETFs, with its stock business spanning four major markets: U.S., Hong Kong, Korean, and Japanese equities. On this basis, Gate continues to expand its stock and related financial product offerings, including Pre-IPOs, IPO Access, and gStocks tokenized stocks, providing users with diversified investment options across different stages and asset classes.
Looking ahead, Gate will continue to advance the development of its proof-of-reserves transparency, security infrastructure, and risk management systems, while continuously optimizing its product ecosystem and global service capabilities around user needs. As digital assets and traditional financial markets become increasingly integrated, Gate will continue to explore more asset classes and trading scenarios, building a more open, diversified, one-stop asset trading and management experience for users worldwide through a transparent, secure, and efficient service framework.

PANews reported on August 22 that, according to official sources, in 2025 Turkey experienced severe forest fires, triggering widespread national attention on natural resource conservation and post-disaster restoration. To respond to local needs, Gate TR, together with TEMA and the Turkish Ministry of Forestry, launched a long-term CSR program.
After nearly a year of progress, the program has now been successfully completed. Building on the original plan to establish three forests and plant 15,000 saplings, the project scope was further expanded, ultimately establishing four forests in four Turkish provinces and planting 17,000 saplings in total, exceeding the original target.
This project reflects Gate’s attention to local communities and the ecological environment in Turkey. By working with local institutions, Gate turned its public welfare philosophy into concrete action, supporting forest ecological restoration. Gate founder and CEO Dr. Han said: “17,000 saplings, starting from one small step, will continue to bring greenery to future generations. This is how we practice our commitment.”
Looking ahead, Gate will continue to carry out charitable and public welfare activities around the world, contributing to social well-being and the sustainable development of the ecological environment while fulfilling its corporate social responsibility.

AI is fully permeating the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision-making process, with AI mentioned 18 times across 15 economic discussion segments.
The Federal Reserve’s recently released July meeting minutes show that policymakers referenced artificial intelligence (AI) 18 times across 15 paragraphs discussing economic conditions and outlooks. Attending officials warned that large-scale AI infrastructure investment could exert broader upward pressure on overall inflation by boosting aggregate demand, while the impact of AI on the labor market remains highly uncertain. Some officials noted that AI-related price pressures are currently concentrated only in chips, software, and certain consumer electronics, but others pointed out that the expanding scale of AI investment may have already or will soon affect overall prices. Meanwhile, Fed officials are concerned that AI capital spending is increasingly reliant on debt financing from non-bank investors and regional banks. A sharp reversal in AI asset pricing could lead to significant stock repricing and trigger shocks to financial institutions and consumer spending. The minutes also stated that AI’s impact on the labor market may be limited for now. While data center construction has created jobs in some regions, it has also exacerbated shortages of roles such as electricians, plumbers, and construction workers. Some officials also warned that there remains considerable uncertainty about whether and when the productivity gains promised by AI will materialize.

Xiaomi’s MiMo-V3-Pro benchmark results have reportedly leaked, scoring 72.8 on SWE-Bench Pro, approaching top-tier overseas closed-source models.
Max For AI has published a disclosure noting that a benchmark screenshot allegedly of Xiaomi’s next-generation large model MiMo-V3-Pro has circulated in online communities. The screenshot shows the model is primarily targeted at coding agent and general agent scenarios, with some test scores approaching those of top overseas models like Claude Opus and GPT. According to the alleged screenshot, MiMo-V3-Pro scored 72.8 points on SWE-Bench Pro, higher than GLM 5.3’s 67.9 points and Kimi K3’s 65.8 points, and less than 3 points behind Claude Opus 5’s 74.6 points and GPT-5.6 Sol Max’s 75.4 points. It also scored 70.6 points on Terminal-Bench 2.0, similarly close to Claude Opus 5’s 72.0 points and GPT-5.6 Sol Max’s 73.5 points. Additionally, its τ3-bench score reached 76.4 points, compared to GPT-5.6 Sol Max’s 78.8 points. If these scores are ultimately officially confirmed and reproducible in the official version, MiMo-V3-Pro could enter the first tier of the world’s top models. However, the authenticity of the benchmark screenshot and its test conditions have not been confirmed by Xiaomi’s official, and the relevant data should still be considered unsubstantiated leaks. It is worth noting that Xiaomi’s latest officially announced MiMo flagship models are currently MiMo-V2-Pro and MiMo-V2.5-Pro, so whether MiMo-V3-Pro exists and its specific release date remain to be further disclosed by the company.

Gate has officially launched Japanese stock trading, initially offering around 300 stocks listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE), further expanding its global equity market coverage. Japanese stock trading is now available on Gate Web, with the feature coming soon to the Gate App. Users can trade Japanese stocks directly on Gate using USDT, without the need to open a separate traditional Japanese brokerage account or convert funds into Japanese yen.
The approximately 300 Japanese stocks available at launch are listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE), covering markets including the Prime Market. The selection focuses on representative stocks with relatively large market capitalizations, strong liquidity, and high market attention, including Toyota Motor (7203.P), Sony Group (6758.P), SoftBank Group (9984.P), Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (8306.P), Nintendo (7974.P), and Tokyo Electron (8035.P). Moving forward, Gate will continue to expand its Japanese stock coverage based on market demand, providing users with access to a broader range of quality assets.
In terms of trading functionality, Japanese stocks share the same stock account and related trading capabilities as Gate’s existing U.S., Hong Kong, and Korean stock services. Users can view market data, buy and sell stocks, close positions, modify or cancel orders, manage holdings, and review transaction history within the same account. Japanese stocks support intraday trading from 09:00 to 11:30 and 12:30 to 15:25 Japan Time (00:00 to 02:30 and 03:30 to 06:25 UTC). New orders are not supported during the midday break or after the market closes. Japanese stock prices, position values, and profit and loss are displayed in JPY, while trading funds and fees are settled in USDT in accordance with Gate’s applicable rules.
As part of its broader stock business, Gate continues to strengthen unified trading infrastructure across major global stock markets. The platform has now established a 24/7 trading service covering four core markets: U.S. stocks, Hong Kong stocks, Korean stocks, and Japanese stocks. Gate supports more than 10,000 U.S. stocks and ETFs, over 1,500 Hong Kong stocks, more than 1,000 Korean stocks, and around 300 Japanese stocks, providing access to more than 12,800 stocks and ETFs globally.
Gate offers zero trading fees for eligible U.S. stocks and ETFs, while supporting fractional share trading starting from 0.01 shares, stock dividends, cross-broker transfers for U.S. and Hong Kong stocks, and corporate actions including stock splits and reverse splits, further enhancing the stock investment experience.
Building on this foundation, Gate has developed a product matrix covering different investment stages and asset types, including Pre-IPOs, IPO Access, and gStocks tokenized stocks. These products provide users with diversified ways to participate in pre-IPO opportunities, public offerings, and tokenized asset trading.
The launch of Japanese stock trading not only expands Gate’s global equity market coverage but also demonstrates the platform’s capabilities in connecting traditional finance with digital assets and building a multi-asset trading ecosystem. Leveraging its established digital asset infrastructure, Gate is bringing more stocks, ETFs, IPOs, and tokenized assets into a unified trading ecosystem, lowering the barriers to cross-market asset allocation. Going forward, Gate will accelerate its expansion across major global markets and quality assets, deepen the integration of traditional finance and digital assets, and build a one-stop multi-asset platform covering more markets, assets, and investment scenarios, providing global users with broader and more efficient asset allocation opportunities.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro signed Executive Order 2026-05 on August 18, changing the way the state reviews permits for data centers with peak demand exceeding 25 MW.
The order takes effect immediately and creates two review tracks, depending on whether a developer signs a binding agreement with state regulators.
How Pennsylvania Will Review Data Center PermitsDevelopers who commit to the Governor’s Responsible Infrastructure Development requirements can sign a consent order with the Department of Environmental Protection. Those developers receive a rolling review of their applications.
Developers who decline wait until every application is filed and reviewed. They also lose access to two state programs that guarantee permit turnaround times.
Both tracks share one gate. DEP cannot issue permits, or for non-signers begin review, until a developer shows the project matches the local comprehensive plan and holds all municipal approvals.
The order also removes every data center from the Fast Track permitting program.
“…if the local community doesn’t approve a project, the state won’t approve it either,” Governor Shapiro said.
The order cites reports of more than 100 proposed facilities statewide. DEP has received permit applications tied to 20 facilities.
Cost pressure sits behind the move. Data centers drove $29.4 billion in capacity charges to ratepayers across PJM Interconnection’s last four base residual auctions, or 46% of total auction costs, according to the PJM Independent Market Monitor. PJM serves all or parts of 13 states and Washington, DC.

State Backlash Spreads Against AI Data CentersPennsylvania joins a widening group. In July, New York’s Governor paused state environmental permit issuance for up to 1 year.
Texas subsequently ordered an audit of all data centers, with projects failing to meet the requirements set by the PUCT and ERCOT barred from connecting to the state’s power grid.
The growing scrutiny extends beyond regulators. Communities and the wider public have also raised concerns about the rapid expansion of AI data centers.
Gallup found that 70% of Americans oppose having an AI data center built near where they live. On July 18, a national day of protest against data centers saw 142 demonstrations across 42 states.

The line between crypto exchanges and stock brokerages is getting blurry. Monthly trading volume for traditional equity perpetual contracts on crypto platforms has hit $250 billion as of August 2026, a 17-fold increase from the $15 billion recorded just four months earlier in April. Binance controls 76% of that market, while Gate.io has emerged as the fastest-growing challenger with a 308% month-over-month surge in volume.
Put differently: crypto exchanges are now processing a quarter-trillion dollars in monthly bets on stocks like NVIDIA, Tesla, and MicroStrategy, and they’re doing it without a single share changing hands.
How equity perps conquered crypto exchanges
Equity perpetual contracts are derivatives that let traders gain leveraged, cash-settled exposure to traditional stocks and indices without ever owning the underlying asset. They never expire, unlike traditional futures, which means no rolling contracts and no settlement dates.
Traditional stock markets operate on fixed schedules. The New York Stock Exchange closes at 4 PM Eastern, takes weekends off, and observes holidays. Equity perps on crypto exchanges trade 24/7, 365 days a year.
Binance moved first, launching equity and ETF perpetual contracts starting in late January through February 2026. CryptoQuant data shows Binance’s market share across various TradFi perps sub-segments fluctuates between 41% and 74%, depending on the specific product. For equity perps specifically, that figure sits at a commanding 76%.
The product lineup reads like a retail investor’s watchlist: MSTR, NVDA, TSLA. These are the most actively traded tickers.
Gate.io’s breakout and the competitive landscape
While Binance’s dominance is the headline number, Gate.io’s trajectory might be the more interesting story. A 308% month-over-month increase in trading volume doesn’t happen by accident, and the platform has been on a consistent upward trend since May 2026.
What this means for traditional finance
The $250 billion monthly figure is worth putting in context. While it’s still a fraction of global equity trading volume, which runs into the tens of trillions monthly across all venues, the growth trajectory is what matters. Going from $15 billion to $250 billion in four months is the kind of hockey-stick curve that makes traditional brokerages nervous.
There’s also a regulatory dimension that remains unresolved. Cash-settled perpetual contracts on equities occupy a gray area in most jurisdictions. They’re not securities in the traditional sense since no shares are transferred, but they provide synthetic exposure to regulated instruments.
The broader trend extends beyond just equities. Crypto exchanges have been expanding into commodities and other traditional asset classes, building out a parallel financial infrastructure that operates outside conventional market hours and regulatory frameworks. Equity perps are the most visible expression of this shift, but they’re part of a larger pattern.

Gate.io, a platform that built its name on crypto trading, is now processing roughly $85 billion in traditional finance volume per week. That figure represents a 55% jump from the prior week, driven largely by traders piling into AI-linked stocks, memory chip companies, and other high-beta plays.
What’s actually being traded US stock-related perpetual contracts account for roughly 60-65% of Gate’s trading volume during this period. That means the majority of activity on a platform originally designed for Bitcoin and altcoins now revolves around equity derivatives.
The dominant themes tell a clear story about where risk appetite is pointed. AI-related equities and memory chip stocks, including names like Micron and Western Digital, are driving the bulk of activity.

Perpetual contracts, not spot trades, are the vehicle of choice. Across six major centralized exchanges, perpetual futures made up 98.5% of overall TradFi trading volume in June 2026.
The $85 billion weekly figure actually represents a cooldown. Gate’s weekly TradFi volume recently peaked near $98 billion, meaning the current number reflects a 13-15% decline from that high-water mark.
The bigger picture is almost absurd Monthly TradFi trading volume across six major centralized exchanges went from $3.46 billion in January 2025 to $393.15 billion in June 2026. That’s more than 100-fold growth in 18 months.
Gate has positioned itself at the front of this wave. The platform claims approximately 39.4% of reported TradFi derivatives volume among exchanges that disclose their figures. During one promotional period ending in mid-August 2026, Gate recorded over $33 billion in TradFi transactions, with peak single-day volumes exceeding $6 billion.
The platform now offers trading across stocks, metals, forex, indices, and commodities through both its app and web interfaces.
