Key First Solar News Here are the key news stories impacting First Solar this week:

Positive Sentiment: Value appeal: Zacks identifies First Solar as a top-ranked value stock, potentially supporting investor interest given its reported earnings strength and relatively low valuation metrics. First Solar Is a Top-Ranked Value Stock Neutral Sentiment: Short-interest data offers no actionable signal: The latest report lists short interest at zero shares and a zero-day days-to-cover ratio, unchanged from the prior period. Because the figures include an apparent calculation error (“NaN” increase), they should not be interpreted as evidence of either short covering or heightened bearish positioning. Negative Sentiment: Legal overhang intensifies: Multiple law firms are promoting a securities class action against First Solar and seeking investors to serve as lead plaintiff. The reported claims focus on alleged misrepresentations regarding underutilization of Series 6 module production and the costly challenges of expanding manufacturing operations in South Carolina. The allegations have not been proven, but the repeated announcements may weigh on sentiment by raising potential financial, legal and reputational risks. First Solar is a solar technology company that provides photovoltaic (“PV”) solar energy solutions. First Solar manufactures and sells PV solar modules that convert sunlight into electricity. As relevant here, First Solar’s product offerings include its Series 6 Plus PV module, manufactured at facilities in locations including Malaysia and Vietnam.

At the outset of the Class Period, Defendants announced that First Solar would reduce production output of Series 6 modules at facilities in Malaysia and Vietnam in 2025, to account for circumstances including, inter alia, an “uncertain U.S. policy environment following the 2024 U.S. elections,” and “a supply and demand imbalance for Southeast Asian product”. Notwithstanding these circumstances, First Solar reassured investors that its primary market, the United States, enjoyed stable module prices.

Then, on April 2, 2025, United States (“U.S.”) President Donald J. Trump announced a series of “reciprocal” tariffs on U.S. imports from all countries, including rates of 24% and 46% on Malaysia and Vietnam, respectively, presenting a challenge to First Solar. These tariffs were subsequently reduced to 10%. Throughout the Class Period, Defendants continued to assure investors that the dynamic policy landscape presented a “long term favorable” for First Solar and actually “strengthened [its] relative position in the solar manufacturing industry”.

The complaint alleges that, throughout the Class Period, Defendants made materially false and misleading statements regarding the Company’s business, operations, and compliance policies. Specifically, Defendants made false and/or misleading statements and/or failed to disclose that: (i) Defendants had overstated First Solar’s capacity to manage the impact of U.S. tariff policy on the Company’s business; (ii) Defendants understated the extent to which its responses to U.S. tariff policy, including the intentional underutilization of production facilities in Malaysia and Vietnam, and attempted relocation of production to the U.S., were likely to negatively impact First Solar’s projected performance in the 2026 fiscal year; and (iii) as a result, Defendants’ public statements were materially false and misleading at all relevant times.

The truth began to emerge on January 7, 2026, when Jefferies downgraded First Solar to Hold from Buy, noting that during 2025, the Company had lowered guidance, faced significant de-bookings and experienced margin compression through 2025. Jefferies also flagged that “[international] facilities remain a pain point while tariffs exist” and “underutilization at [international] facilities remains a concern.” The Jefferies analyst also predicted that First Solar’s deployment opportunities were likely to be more limited in 2026.

On this news, First Solar’s stock price fell $27.67 per share, or 10.29%, to close at $241.11 per share on January 7, 2026.

Then, on February 24, 2026, First Solar issued a press release “announc[ing] financial results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2025.” Among other items, First Solar announced earnings that missed expectations by a wide margin and issued lower-than-expected FY 2026 revenue guidance, citing customer headwinds such as permitting delays under the Trump administration. Following First Solar’s announcement, Baird Research downgraded its stock to Neutral from Outperform, citing “several question marks in forward outlook”.

On this news, First Solar’s stock price fell $33.09 per share, or 13.61%, to close at $210.12 per share on February 25, 2026.

Specifically, Defendants made false and/or misleading statements and/or failed to disclose that: (i) Defendants had overstated First Solar's capacity to manage the impact of U.S. tariff policy on the Company's business; (ii) Defendants understated the extent to which its responses to U.S. tariff policy, including the intentional underutilization of production facilities in Malaysia and Vietnam, and attempted relocation of production to the U.S., were likely to negatively impact First Solar's projected performance in the 2026 fiscal year; and (iii) as a result, Defendants' public statements were materially false and misleading at all relevant times.

The truth began to emerge on January 7, 2026, when Jefferies downgraded First Solar to Hold from Buy, noting that during 2025, the Company had lowered guidance, faced significant de-bookings and experienced margin compression through 2025. Jefferies also flagged that "[international] facilities remain a pain point while tariffs exist" and "underutilization at [international] facilities remains a concern." The Jefferies analyst also predicted that First Solar's deployment opportunities were likely to be more limited in 2026.

On this news, First Solar's stock price fell $27.67 per share, or 10.29%, to close at $241.11 per share on January 7, 2026.

Then, on February 24, 2026, First Solar issued a press release "announc[ing] financial results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2025." Among other items, First Solar announced earnings that missed expectations by a wide margin and issued lower-than-expected FY 2026 revenue guidance, citing customer headwinds such as permitting delays under the Trump administration. Following First Solar's announcement, Baird Research downgraded its stock to Neutral from Outperform, citing "several question marks in forward outlook".

On this news, First Solar's stock price fell $33.09 per share, or 13.61%, to close at $210.12 per share on February 25, 2026.

First Solar podporuje zásah USA proti polysilikonu

Company backs enforcement to enable a level playing field for American solar manufacturing, workers

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--First Solar, Inc. (Nasdaq: FSLR) ("First Solar" or "the Company") today voiced strong support for the Trump Administration’s action on imports of polysilicon and its derivatives under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act, a move aimed at loosening China's grip on a critical supply chain.

Polysilicon is a foundational input for crystalline silicon solar modules, and Chinese producers control more than 90 percent of the global supply, a concentration that is itself a security risk. That control has given a single government outsized sway over the cost and availability of the material and its derivatives, created opaque supply chains that carry forced labor exposure, and enabled anti-competitive measures at a cost to American solar manufacturers and their workers.

“First Solar strongly commends the Trump Administration's Section 232 national security action on polysilicon and its derivatives, one of the most strategically significant trade measures in decades,” said Mark Widmar, chief executive officer, First Solar. “For years, China-linked supply chains dumped below cost and circumvented US laws to undercut American workers and their livelihoods, while creating a strategic vulnerability. This action closes that loophole, and it is built to be enforced, with a minimum import price, an ad valorem tariff behind it, and real consequences for violators. That is the fair shot at a level playing field that American manufacturers and workers have earned.”

Widmar said, “As we built the largest solar manufacturing and supply chain footprint in the country, we've long argued that how and where solar technology is made matters, and the Administration's actions recognize that. In particular, the incentive structure, coupled with a hard-to-game framework, is a clear signal that the Administration is committed to ending America's dependence on China for critical solar energy technology and building the jobs, investment, and manufacturing capacity to match.”

First Solar operates the largest solar technology manufacturing and research and development (R&D) footprint in the Western Hemisphere with five operational manufacturing facilities in Alabama, Louisiana, and Ohio, and a sixth plant under construction in South Carolina, the first phase of which is expected to begin operations in the second half of 2026. By the end of 2026, the Company expects to have invested over $5 billion in American manufacturing and R&D infrastructure since 2019, and by 2027 it forecasts approximately 17 gigawatts (GW) of US module manufacturing capacity, none of which has any dependence on Chinese crystalline silicon supply chains.

A study commissioned by First Solar and conducted by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, released earlier this year, estimated that the Company supported nearly 30,000 American jobs and $3.0 billion in labor income in 2025, while contributing approximately $5.8 billion to US gross domestic product (GDP). The analysis projects that by 2027 the Company will support more than 39,000 jobs and $4.0 billion in labor income and contribute approximately $7.8 billion to US GDP.

Key Takeaways First Solar beat Q2 earnings estimates, reaffirmed 2026 guidance and topped 100 GW module sales. FSLR's 45.1 GW backlog worth $13.6B and wider gross margins supported investor optimism.CTEC ranks among the ETFs with significant exposure to First Solar. Shares of First Solar Inc. (FSLR - Free Report) gained 2.5% on July 31, 2026, following the release of its second-quarter results after the market closed on July 30. The stock continued its upward momentum over subsequent trading sessions, surging 18.3% since the announcement.

The solar panel manufacturer comfortably surpassed Wall Street's earnings expectations, despite narrowly missing revenue estimates.

This rally in FSLR’s share price reflects increased investor optimism surrounding its strong profitability. The earnings beat, driven by expanding gross margins and strong operational execution, coupled with reaffirmed full-year guidance, provides confidence in FSLR's near-term momentum and reinforces its position as the largest solar panel manufacturer in the United States.

However, direct equity ownership in FSLR carries distinct single-stock concentration risks. As a domestic manufacturer, First Solar’s long-term profitability remains heavily dependent on federal policy incentives as well as favorable trade protections against foreign solar module imports.

Against this backdrop, investors looking to capitalize on First Solar's upward momentum while maintaining a diversified approach may want to focus on exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that hold significant exposure to the stock.

But before identifying those specific ETFs, it is worth taking a closer look at the key metrics behind First Solar's impressive quarterly beat and the solid contracted backlog that underpins its multi-year outlook.

Brief Analysis of FSLR's Q2 ResultsThe bottom line surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 1.2%, while revenues missed the consensus mark by 0.4%. A similar trend was visible on a year-over-year basis as well, with its top line declining 4% but bottom line improving 23.3%.

The sales decline was on account of lower revenues associated with customer contract terminations.

The company reached an important milestone in the second quarter, exceeding 100 gigawatts (GW) of cumulative module sales globally. As of June 30, 2026, FSLR’s contracted backlog totaled 45.1 GW with an aggregate transaction value of $13.6 billion.

Its gross margin expanded 1180 basis points (bps) from the second quarter of 2025, driven by net IEEPA tariff-related benefit, higher mix of modules qualifying for Section 45X tax credits and lower logistics costs.

Looking ahead, FSLR’s South Carolina facility is expected to provide up to 3.5 GW of finishing capacity for modules, with the first phase of the finishing facility remaining on track to begin production in the second half of 2026. FSLR expects the second phase of the facility to be completed by mid-2027. The company expects its 2026 results to reflect a net-tariff impact of $60 million to $80 million.

First Solar potvrdila upravenou EBITDA a silný backlog

Key Takeaways First Solar enters Q2 with a 47.9-GW backlog worth $14.4 billion, providing revenue visibility through 2030.FSLR's U.S. manufacturing and domestic demand likely supported profitability in the to-be-reported quarter.FSLR may face margin pressure from lower factory utilization in Malaysia and Vietnam. First Solar (FSLR - Free Report) is scheduled to release second-quarter 2026 results on July 30, after market close. The company delivered an earnings surprise of 12.2% in the last reported quarter.

Let’s discuss the factors that are likely to be reflected in the upcoming quarterly results.

Factors Likely to Have Impacted FSLR’s Q2 PerformanceFirst Solar is likely to have continued benefiting from its U.S.-based manufacturing operations during the second quarter. With U.S. manufacturing facilities operating at roughly 96% utilization and the company continuing to prioritize domestic production, these incentives are expected to have remained a major earnings driver. Management also reaffirmed its second-quarter adjusted EBITDA guidance of $400-$500 million, reflecting confidence that these operational strengths will continue to support profitability.

Management highlighted record sales in India during the first quarter and noted that U.S. utility-scale demand remained healthy, supported by the company's differentiated CadTel technology, domestic manufacturing base and independence from Chinese supply chains. Ongoing trade enforcement measures, proposed Foreign Entity of Concern (FEOC) regulations and intellectual property litigation against TOPCon manufacturers are also expected to have strengthened First Solar's competitive positioning during the second quarter.

First Solar entered the to-be-reported quarter with a strong 47.9-gigawatt backlog worth $14.4 billion, providing solid revenue visibility through 2030. The company also maintained disciplined booking practices, helping preserve strong selling prices despite industry uncertainty.

One of the biggest headwinds during the quarter is expected to have been lower production levels at the company's manufacturing facilities in Malaysia and Vietnam. Management stated that these plants would have operated at lower utilization levels than in the first quarter, resulting in higher underutilization charges that would weigh on gross margins. Weak demand for internationally produced modules and uncertainty surrounding U.S. trade policy might have continued to limit production at these facilities.

Q2 Expectations for FSLRThe Zacks Consensus Estimate for earnings is pegged at $2.74 per share, indicating a year-over-year decrease of 13.8%.

The consensus estimate for revenues is pinned at $1.06 billion, implying a 3.3% decrease year over year.

The Zacks Consensus Estimate for Modules megawatt (MW) sold is pinned at 3,739.3 MW compared with 3,554 MW in the year-ago quarter.

What Our Quantitative Model PredictsOur proven model does not predict an earnings beat for First Solar this time around. The combination of a positive Earnings ESP and a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), 2 (Buy) or 3 (Hold) increases the odds of an earnings beat, which is not the case here as you will see below.

Stocks to ConsiderInvestors may consider the following players from the same sector, as these have the right combination of elements to post an earnings beat this reporting cycle.

Nextpower Inc. (NXT - Free Report) is likely to come up with an earnings beat when it reports fiscal first-quarter results on July 30. It has an Earnings ESP of +12.08% and a Zacks Rank of 1 at present.

NXT’s long-term (three to five years) earnings growth rate is 13.44%. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for earnings is pinned at $1.04 per share, indicating a year-over-year decrease of 10.3%.

Energy Transfer (ET - Free Report) is likely to come up with an earnings beat when it reports second-quarter results on Aug. 4. It has an Earnings ESP of +26.17% and a Zacks Rank of 1 at present.

ET’s long-term earnings growth rate is 12.11%. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for earnings is pinned at 37 cents per unit, indicating a year-over-year increase of 15.6%.

Sempra (SRE - Free Report) is likely to come up with an earnings beat when it reports second-quarter results on Aug. 6. It has an Earnings ESP of +0.79% and a Zacks Rank of 3 at present.

(“First Solar” or the “Company”) (NASDAQ: FSLR) and certain officers. The class action, filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, and docketed under 26-cv-03787, is on behalf of a class consisting of all persons and entities other than Defendants that purchased or otherwise acquired First Solar securities between February 26, 2025 and February 24, 2026, both dates inclusive (the “Class Period”), seeking to recover damages caused by Defendants’ violations of the federal securities laws and to pursue remedies under Sections 10(b) and 20(a) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and Rule 10b-5 promulgated thereunder, against the Company and certain of its top officials.

If you are an investor who purchased or otherwise acquired First Solar securities during the Class Period, you have until August 24, 2026, to ask the Court to appoint you as Lead Plaintiff for the class.

First Solar rozšiřuje výrobu a očekává 1,9 GW nových zakázek
FSLR First Solar
FMP Stock News 78
Original source text
Key Takeaways First Solar is expanding U.S. manufacturing capacity across Ohio, Alabama and Louisiana facilities.FSLR added 1.9 GW of bookings, lifting its total backlog to 47.9 GW, extending through 2030.FSLR expects $0.8-$1.0B in 2026 capital spending for a new plant, R&D and equipment upgrades. First Solar’s (FSLR - Free Report) long-term growth story is increasingly being driven by manufacturing expansion. Its aggressive investment in domestic manufacturing capacity is strengthening its competitive position as utility-scale solar deployment accelerates across the United States.

The company continues to expand production across its manufacturing facilities in Ohio, Alabama and Louisiana, increasing its ability to supply American-made solar modules. During 2026, FSLR expects capital expenditures to be between $0.8 billion and $1.0 billion. These investments include the construction of a new manufacturing facility, ongoing research and development initiatives, and upgrades to existing machinery and equipment aimed at enhancing efficiency and performance.

The company has added 1.9 gigawatts (GW) of gross bookings since the previous earnings call, bringing its total booking backlog to 47.9 GW extending through 2030. This robust backlog indicates strong demand for FSLR’s products while reinforcing its capacity expansion strategy, providing greater revenue visibility and stability in the years ahead.

Rising electricity consumption from data centers, advanced manufacturing facilities and broader electrification trends continue to increase the need for utility-scale solar generation.

The company's differentiated cadmium telluride (CdTe) technology further strengthens its competitive position. Compared with conventional crystalline silicon modules, CdTe technology performs well in high-temperature environments and reduces dependence on polysilicon-based supply chains.

Although changes in trade policy, project timing and interest rates may create periodic volatility, FSLR’s manufacturing expansion, contracted backlog and technology leadership provide multiple drivers for sustainable long-term growth. As domestic solar deployment continues to accelerate, the company appears well positioned to benefit from increasing demand for U.S.-manufactured renewable energy equipment.

Solar Companies Investing in Manufacturing ExpansionSeveral solar companies are also expanding manufacturing capabilities to capitalize on growing renewable energy demand.

Enphase Energy (ENPH - Free Report) continues to invest in domestic manufacturing partnerships while expanding its residential solar and energy storage ecosystem.

Nextpower (NXT - Free Report) is benefiting from accelerating utility-scale solar deployment through growing demand for its integrated energy technology platform, including advanced solar tracking systems, electrical balance-of-system solutions and power conversion technologies.

FSLR’s Earnings EstimatesThe Zacks Consensus Estimate for 2026 and 2027 earnings per share (EPS) indicates an increase of 23.93% and 38%, respectively, year over year.

First Solar roste díky poptávce po solární energii pro AI
FSLR First Solar
FMP Stock News 78

First Solar (FSLR 5.30%) has been on an absolute roller coaster. It has more than tripled over the past five years, but that includes multiple 20% and 40% drops along the way.

Elon Musk has his eyes set on solar-powered AI data centers for SpaceX. Furthermore, the Solar Energy Industries Association released a report last year detailing how the U.S.'s AI leaders are investing billions of dollars into solar energy.

Using solar energy as an AI data center power source can put less strain on the electric grid, and First Solar fits nicely into that objective. A 2% year-to-date drop in the stock price suggests that not every investor sees this opportunity quite yet.

First Solar has multi-year revenue visibility First-quarter results offered reasons for optimism, especially if First Solar continues to ride AI tailwinds. Net sales reached $1.04 billion, which was up by 24% year over year. The company cited an "increase in the volume of modules sold to third parties" as a major catalyst, which was fueled by AI demand.

First Solar also has a contracted 47.9-gigawatt backlog, providing multiple years of high-growth revenue visibility. For instance, the company expects to sell 17.6 gigawatts at the projected 2026 midpoint and earn $5.05 billion. Megawatt rates vary by project, but the company said its 47.9 gigawatts of capacity equate to $14.4 billion in contracted backlog through 2030.

Record sales in India contributed to the results. The company sold approximately 1 gigawatt worth of energy to the country in Q1. First Solar also mentioned "substantially committed" U.S. production through 2028.

The valuation is extremely low First Solar currently has a 16.5 price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio and a 0.67 price/earnings-to-growth (PEG) ratio. Those valuations are shockingly low for a company that has achieved an annualized revenue growth rate of 25.8% over the past three years. High top-line growth has also come with rising profit margins, with net margins reaching 33% in Q1.

First Solar also has a much lower valuation than its peers. Enphase Energy trades at a 51.1 P/E ratio despite posting year-over-year revenue declines in recent quarters. Meanwhile, SolarEdge remains unprofitable, but has a projected forward P/E ratio of 208.

Demand for First Solar's utility-scale solar energy should continue to gain momentum amid the AI build-out. Not everyone will want to rely on the electric grid for power, and if Musk launches AI data centers into space, they will need solar panels. The current valuation offers a reasonable margin of safety for what can be a compelling long-term opportunity.
