FS KKR Capital: One Of The Steepest Discounts In The Sector, Still Not A Buy
FSK FS KKR Capital Corp
FMP Stock News
Original source text
FSK KKR Capital Corp. trades at a 33% discount to NAV but faces persistent credit quality issues and NAV erosion. Despite recent outperformance and a double-digit yield, FSK's high non-accruals and declining investment income raise concerns about dividend sustainability. Management's incentive fee waiver and continued high non-accruals signal elevated risk of another dividend cut in the near term.

FSK remains a hold, despite a recent 14% price jump post-Q2 2026 earnings. FSK's NAV dropped over $0.50 per share in one quarter, driven by realized and unrealized portfolio losses. 3 Big Yield Credit Plays Explained: FS KKR, BlackRock TCP and Oxford Lane
FSK FS KKR Capital Corp
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Three high-yield credit vehicles all promise fat distributions, but distribution cuts, collapsing NAV, and buried fees tell a darker story than the yield headlines suggest. Only one of the three actually earns its payout right now.

Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that Oxford Lane Capital declared a $1.778125 special distribution on June 30, 2026, and cited an incorrect trailing 12-month distribution total. Oxford Lane did not declare that special distribution on its common shares. The $1.778125 figure was associated with a preferred security, not OXLC common stock. The article has been corrected to reflect OXLC’s actual common-stock distributions.

High-yield credit vehicles look easy on the surface: Buy the ticker, collect the check, repeat. The reality is messier. Distributions can be cut (we flagged seven warning signs a big yield is about to snap in a free dividend trap guide), non-accruals can eat NAV, leverage can amplify losses, and fees can quietly siphon returns. The three names in this ranking sit at different points on the risk spectrum. All three offer outsized payouts. Only one, in our view, currently balances sponsor strength, portfolio quality, and distribution reset in a way that argues for genuine sustainability.

Here is the framework we used to rank them: (1) distribution coverage against net investment income or portfolio cash flow, (2) non-accruals and NAV trajectory, (3) leverage discipline, (4) sponsor backing and (5) the credibility of the payout relative to the yield headline. Here are three that fit the bill.

1. BlackRock TCP Capital BlackRock TCP Capital (NASDAQ:TCPC) is the highest-stress name in the group. Adjusted EPS of 21 cents beat the 20-cent consensus, but GAAP EPS was only 2 cents after a $10 million AutoAlert exit loss. NAV per share slid to $6.58, down from $7.07 at year-end 2025, with another 68-cents per share hit expected from the $523 million portfolio sale to Pantheon-managed funds covering 78 companies.

The Pantheon transaction resets the balance sheet: net leverage drops from 1.38x to roughly 0.4x, potentially below 0.3x post-Domo. Non-accruals improved to 1.6% at fair value from 2.8%. The Q3 dividend of 17 cents is well covered by the 22-cent NII, but that 17 cents marks a steep step-down from 29 cents in early 2025 and 34 cents in 2024. Shares are down more than 27% year to date. CEO Phil Tseng called the deal “a milestone… that meaningfully accelerates the work already underway to strengthen our financial position.”

Risk: The board has engaged KBW for a strategic review, so outcomes range from reinvestment to an orderly wind-down.

2. FS KKR Capital FS KKR Capital (NYSE:FSK | FSK Price Prediction) is the largest and, after a brutal Q1, the stabilizing story. Q2 adjusted EPS of 43 cents beat the 42-cent estimate, with NII of 44 cents per share fully covering the declared Q3 distribution of 44 cents. NAV came in at $18.30, down from $18.83, and net leverage fell to 127% from 138%, inside the 1.0x to 1.25x target. Non-accruals improved to 3.8% of fair value.

KKR is putting real money behind the recovery: a completed $150 million tender at $11, a $150 million convertible preferred, a $300 million buyback and a 50% subordinated income incentive fee waiver for four quarters that added $11 million to Q2 NII. CEO Michael Forman noted FSK “reduced net leverage to within our target range, and made progress reducing our non-accrual assets.” The distribution was cut from 70 cents in 2025 to the 42–48-cent range in 2026.

Risk: Class action lawsuits tied to Q1 disclosures remain unresolved, and shares are down nearly 20% YTD.

3. Oxford Lane Capital Oxford Lane Capital (NASDAQ:OXLC) tops the list because, as a closed-end fund holding CLO equity and junior debt tranches, it delivers the most differentiated payout profile of the three. Structurally, CLO equity captures the residual spread between loan portfolio yields and CLO liabilities, which generates the outsized cash distributions this vehicle is known for.

OXLC currently pays a 20-cent monthly common-stock distribution, equal to a $2.40 forward annualized rate. The fund paid 40 cents per month during the first three months of 2026 before reducing the monthly common distribution to 20 cents beginning in April. At a current price around $9.40, that works out to a forward distribution yield of roughly 25.5%, still the biggest headline yield in the group despite shares being down roughly 38% year to date.

Risk: CLO equity sits at the bottom of the capital stack. Rising loan defaults, tighter reinvestment windows, or spread compression in the underlying broadly syndicated loan market can compress cash flow quickly. OXLC has also changed its distribution materially over time, including the cut from 40 cents per month in the first quarter of 2026 to 20 cents beginning in April, so payout variability is a central part of the risk.

The Bottom Line The premise was straightforward: separate sustainable high yields from cosmetic ones by pressure-testing coverage, credit quality, leverage, sponsor support, and payout credibility. TCPC has the deepest overhaul underway. FSK has the strongest sponsor lifting behind it. OXLC, sitting at #1, offers the boldest yield expression and the most direct exposure to leveraged loan spread capture, provided investors accept the CLO equity volatility and distribution variability that come with the highest cash payout in the group.

Our October 2024 acquisition of CCData significantly expanded our data and information services capabilities, integrating one of the industry’s foremost digital asset data and index providers and further cementing our best-in-class product suite. This strategic acquisition enhances our ability to deliver cutting-edge data solutions and analytics, further solidifying our position as a leader in the digital assets industry and enabling us to offer valuable insights and indices to our global customers. Operating under the brands “Bullish” and “CoinDesk”, we provide several distinct but complementary services that span the digital assets industry: • Trading and Liquidity Infrastructure (branded as Bullish Exchange): At our core, we operate the Bullish Exchange, an institutionally focused and regulated global digital assets exchange business. We also offer subscription-based liquidity and stablecoin services whereby we provision liquidity to a client’s desired asset. Reflecting our strong market presence, the Bullish Exchange’s total trading volume since launch has exceeded $1.25 trillion as of March 31, 2025. Furthermore, our total global spot trading volume market share for Bitcoin (BTC/USDx) and Ethereum (ETH/USDx) was approximately $284.8 billion and $144.5 billion, respectively, in 2024, which we believe based on available information represented approximately 35% and 44%, respectively, among the peer set of exchanges with which we compare ourselves. • Information Services (branded as CoinDesk): Information Services encompasses our indices, data, and insights businesses. • Indices: CoinDesk Indices provides a collection of tradable proprietary and single-asset benchmarks and indices that track the performance of digital assets for global traditional finance and digital assets institutions including trading firms, hedge funds, asset managers, exchanges, banks, and financial product manufacturers. Since 2014, we believe CoinDesk Indices has been a leader in digital asset indexing, measured by the Assets Under Management (AUM) of underlying products. Our offerings include proprietary multi-asset indices that track the broad digital assets market, specific sectors, and systemic strategies, and single-asset reference indices that track individual digital assets, like Bitcoin. Notable products are the CoinDesk 20 Index, representing the performance of 20 selected digital assets (with eligibility driven through a multi-step process and weighted predominantly on market capitalization for liquid, non-stablecoin digital assets), and the CoinDesk Bitcoin Price Index (XBX), a US$ reference rate for Bitcoin with a long track record in the industry, serving as a benchmark for over $21 billion in AUM. In aggregate, we provide reference rates for products with over $41 billion of AUM and over $15 billion of trading volume as of June 30, 2025. • Data: CoinDesk Data provides a comprehensive suite of digital assets market data and analytics, offering real-time and historic insights into prices, trends, and market dynamics. Our L1 and L2 order book data is captured at full depth for all major exchanges, and our on-chain data covers BTC, ETH, and others. The acquisition of CCData enhanced the CoinDesk Data product by expanding data coverage and analytics capabilities and fostering innovative products to broaden market reach. • Insights: CoinDesk Insights provides news, analysis and real-time information on digital assets and blockchain technology and holds large-scale conferences for industry professionals. CoinDesk Insights’s products and services reached an estimated global audience of 82.1 million people in 2024. By generating engagement through news articles, newsletters, social media, podcasts, live streaming videos, live events, research reports, and our Consensus conferences, we believe CoinDesk Insights plays a pivotal role in informing and connecting the global investment community, championing the contributions of digital assets to the financial system, and driving awareness and credibility in this rapidly innovating space. We have organized our global business into interconnected divisions, supported by common unified infrastructure, services and personnel. We believe this structure creates a synergistic flywheel effect that promotes cross-utilization of our products and services, such as tradable products powered by CoinDesk Indices being listed by the Bullish Exchange, supported by a unified and efficient cost base across the enterprise. Additionally, the integration between CoinDesk Data and CoinDesk Indices enhances this flywheel effect, as CoinDesk Data provides the comprehensive market insights and analytics that underpin the indices, while CoinDesk Indices, in turn, leverages this data to develop index solutions, thereby reinforcing each other’s business. Our group businesses offer diversified revenue streams within the digital assets ecosystem but, more importantly offer significant lead generation and cross-selling opportunities between the different product lines with an ultimate objective of increasing the surface area of client relationships and the value delivered, thus driving Bullish’s relevance as a diversified service provider. Consolidated group-wide functions include finance, human resources, cybersecurity, legal, engineering and internal technology systems. We intend to drive broader cross-utilization through further integration and collaboration in our sales strategies, as well as enhancements to our customer relationship technology. FS KKR Capital Q2 Earnings Call Highlights
FSK FS KKR Capital Corp
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Top 3 Business Development Companies for Double-Digit DividendsFS KKR Capital NYSE: FSK reported second-quarter 2026 net investment income of $0.44 per share and adjusted net investment income of $0.43 per share, while net asset value declined 2.8% sequentially to $18.30 per share.

Chief Executive Officer and Chairman Michael Forman said the company’s quarterly net investment income equated to an annualized yield of 9.6% based on its June 30 net asset value, exceeding prior guidance of 8% to 9%. The board declared a third-quarter distribution of $0.44 per share, in line with FSK’s policy of distributing 100% of prior-quarter GAAP net investment income per share.

Get FS KKR Capital alerts:

Forman said the distribution level may fluctuate with quarterly net investment income. He also said the company has made progress on strategic actions announced during its first-quarter call, while acknowledging that more work is needed to stabilize the portfolio, improve consistency and regain market confidence.

Portfolio Rotation and Strategic Actions Chief Investment Officer and President Dan Pietrzak said FSK continued to reduce new originations while conducting its share repurchase program and rotating parts of its portfolio. The company originated about $590 million of new investments during the quarter, nearly all of which were tied to previously committed transactions or add-on financings for existing portfolio companies.

FSK recorded $1.3 billion of net sales and repayments, including net sales to its joint venture, resulting in a net portfolio decrease of $735 million during the quarter. The company sold about $500 million of investments to third parties at prices in line with first-quarter valuations, Pietrzak said. Global Jet, described as a legacy investment, returned $50 million of capital to FSK, allowing the company to further reduce its position.

Responding to analysts, Pietrzak characterized the loan sales as largely ordinary-course portfolio management, including efforts to reduce larger exposures and sell high-quality assets where market pricing was attractive. He said there was no specific industry or loan-type theme behind the sales.

FSK also completed several strategic capital actions during the quarter:

A KKR subsidiary completed a $150 million tender offer, purchasing FSK shares at $11 per share after the offer expired June 11. FSK issued $150 million of cumulative convertible perpetual preferred stock to a KKR subsidiary on June 29. The preferred stock carries dividends of 5% annually in cash or, at FSK’s option, 7% annually in payment-in-kind dividends, with either rate increasing by 1 percentage point beginning on the five-and-a-half-year anniversary of issuance. FSK launched its $300 million common-stock repurchase program on June 29 and repurchased about 377,800 shares, or roughly $4 million, in the second quarter. Since the start of the third quarter, the company has repurchased 3.3 million additional shares for about $36 million. Cumulative repurchases reached $40 million at a weighted average purchase price of $10.73 per share, Pietrzak said.

Beginning in the second quarter, KKR also agreed to waive its portion of FSK’s subordinated income incentive fee for four consecutive quarters. The waiver added $11 million to second-quarter net investment income, according to management.

Portfolio Performance and Credit Quality As of June 30, FSK’s investment portfolio had a fair value of $11.4 billion across 232 portfolio companies. The company said 59% of the portfolio consisted of first-lien loans and 63% consisted of senior secured debt. Including investments held through its joint venture, first-lien loans accounted for about 69% of the broader portfolio and senior secured investments represented about 73%.

The weighted average yield on accruing debt investments was 9.8%, down from 9.9% in the first quarter. The portfolio companies in which FSK has invested since April 2018 reported weighted average year-over-year EBITDA growth of approximately 6%, while median interest coverage stood at about 1.9 times.

Two investments, Heniff Transportation Systems and Alacrity Solutions Group, were added to non-accrual status. Together, they represented $104 million of cost and $91 million of fair value. Dental Care Alliance and Affordable Care were removed from non-accrual status after being restructured during the quarter.

Non-accruals represented 7.1% of the portfolio at cost and 3.8% at fair value as of June 30, compared with 8.1% and 4.2%, respectively, at March 31.

During the analyst question-and-answer session, Pietrzak said valuation declines were primarily driven by a handful of investments: PRG, ATX, Wittur, Peraton, Lionbridge and Medallia.

Income, NAV and Leverage Total investment income was $290 million, down $14 million from the first quarter. Interest income declined $7 million to $217 million, primarily due to a smaller investment portfolio and assets placed on non-accrual in the prior quarter. Dividend and fee income fell $7 million to $73 million, including $45 million of dividend income from the joint venture.

Net expenses declined $19 million sequentially to $168 million. Interest expense fell $4 million to $101 million, while management fees declined $4 million to $44 million. Net income incentive fees totaled $12 million after the KKR fee waiver, down $13 million from the first quarter.

Chief Financial Officer Steven Lilly said NAV per share fell from $18.83 at the end of the first quarter to $18.30 at June 30. GAAP net investment income added $0.44 per share, but portfolio valuation changes reduced NAV by $0.56 per share. The $0.42 quarterly dividend reduced NAV, while share repurchases added $0.01 per share.

FSK issued $900 million of 7.5% unsecured notes due 2031 during June, then swapped the notes to a floating rate of SOFR plus 3.488%. Debt-to-equity was 127% at quarter-end, while net debt-to-equity was 122%, improving from 138% and 131%, respectively, at March 31.

Lilly said net debt-to-equity had returned to FSK’s target range of 1.0 to 1.25 times. Available liquidity stood at $3.5 billion at quarter-end. Management expects annualized net investment income to range from 8% to 9% of NAV for the remainder of 2026, subject to economic conditions, geopolitical risks and portfolio performance.

Pietrzak said FSK intends to complete the share repurchase program while managing liquidity and leverage, and expects the effort to extend through 2026 and 2027. He said the company expects to become a smaller fund as it executes the strategy, but aims to emerge as a higher-quality portfolio with less emphasis on second-lien and junior debt.

FS KKR Capital (FSK) Q2 Earnings and Revenues Surpass Estimates
FSK FS KKR Capital Corp
FMP Stock News
Original source text
FS KKR Capital (FSK - Free Report) came out with quarterly earnings of $0.43 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $0.41 per share. This compares to a loss of $0.6 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items.

This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of +4.88%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this business development company would post earnings of $0.44 per share when it actually produced earnings of $0.41, delivering a surprise of -6.82%.

Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus EPS estimates just once.

FS KKR Capital, which belongs to the Zacks Financial - SBIC & Commercial Industry industry, posted revenues of $290 million for the quarter ended June 2026, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 0.31%. This compares to year-ago revenues of $398 million. The company has topped consensus revenue estimates just once over the last four quarters.

The sustainability of the stock's immediate price movement based on the recently-released numbers and future earnings expectations will mostly depend on management's commentary on the earnings call.

FS KKR Capital shares have lost about 25.5% since the beginning of the year versus the S&P 500's gain of 12.8%.

What's Next for FS KKR Capital? While FS KKR Capital has underperformed the market so far this year, the question that comes to investors' minds is: what's next for the stock?

There are no easy answers to this key question, but one reliable measure that can help investors address this is the company's earnings outlook. Not only does this include current consensus earnings expectations for the coming quarter(s), but also how these expectations have changed lately.

Empirical research shows a strong correlation between near-term stock movements and trends in earnings estimate revisions. Investors can track such revisions by themselves or rely on a tried-and-tested rating tool like the Zacks Rank, which has an impressive track record of harnessing the power of earnings estimate revisions.

Ahead of this earnings release, the estimate revisions trend for FS KKR Capital was mixed. While the magnitude and direction of estimate revisions could change following the company's just-released earnings report, the current status translates into a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) for the stock. So, the shares are expected to perform in line with the market in the near future. You can see the complete list of today's Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here.

It will be interesting to see how estimates for the coming quarters and the current fiscal year change in the days ahead. The current consensus EPS estimate is $0.41 on $285.25 million in revenues for the coming quarter and $1.64 on $1.16 billion in revenues for the current fiscal year.

Investors should be mindful of the fact that the outlook for the industry can have a material impact on the performance of the stock as well. In terms of the Zacks Industry Rank, Financial - SBIC & Commercial Industry is currently in the bottom 31% of the 250 plus Zacks industries. Our research shows that the top 50% of the Zacks-ranked industries outperform the bottom 50% by a factor of more than 2 to 1.

PennantPark (PNNT - Free Report) , another stock in the same industry, has yet to report results for the quarter ended June 2026. The results are expected to be released on August 10.

This business development company is expected to post quarterly earnings of $0.14 per share in its upcoming report, which represents a year-over-year change of -22.2%. The consensus EPS estimate for the quarter has been revised 2.3% lower over the last 30 days to the current level.

PennantPark's revenues are expected to be $25.39 million, down 14.1% from the year-ago quarter.

This press release contains certain financial measures that have not been prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles in the United States (GAAP). These non-GAAP financial measures are not in accordance with, or an alternative to, measures prepared in accordance with GAAP and may be different from non-GAAP financial measures used by other companies. In addition, these non-GAAP financial measures are not based on any comprehensive set of accounting rules or principles. These measures should only be used to evaluate FSK's results of operations in conjunction with their corresponding GAAP measures. Pursuant to the requirements of Item 10(e) of Regulation S-K, as promulgated under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, as amended, FSK has provided a reconciliation of these non-GAAP financial measures in the table below.

Endnotes

1)

Per share data was derived by using the weighted average shares of FSK's common stock outstanding during the applicable period. Per share numbers may not sum due to rounding.

2)

Adjusted net investment income is a non-GAAP financial measure. Adjusted net investment income is presented for all periods as GAAP net investment income excluding (i) the accrual for the capital gains incentive fee for realized and unrealized gains; (ii) excise taxes (net of incentive fee impact) (iii) the impact of accretion resulting from merger accounting; and (iv) certain non-recurring operating expenses that are one-time in nature and are not representative of ongoing operating expenses incurred during FSK's normal course of business. FSK uses this non-GAAP financial measure internally in analyzing financial results and believes that the use of this non-GAAP financial measure is useful to investors as an additional tool to evaluate ongoing results and trends and in comparing its financial results with other business development companies. Adjusted net realized and unrealized gain (loss) is a non-GAAP financial measure. Adjusted net realized and unrealized gain (loss) is presented for all periods as GAAP realized and unrealized gains to exclude the impact of the merger accounting. FSK uses this non-GAAP financial measure internally in analyzing financial results and believes that the use of this non-GAAP financial measure is useful to investors as an additional tool to evaluate ongoing results and trends and in comparing its financial results with other business development companies. The presentation of this additional non-GAAP financial measure information is not meant to be considered in isolation or as a substitute for financial results prepared in accordance with GAAP. A reconciliation of GAAP net investment income to adjusted net investment income and GAAP net realized and unrealized gain (loss) to adjusted net realized and unrealized gain can be found above.

3)

Net debt and the net debt-to-equity ratio are non-GAAP financial measures. Net debt to equity ratio is debt outstanding including convertible preferred stock outstanding, net of cash, cash equivalents, restricted cash and foreign currency and net payable/receivable for investments purchased/sold and repaid, divided by net assets. FSK uses these non-GAAP financial measures internally to monitor and evaluate its leverage and financial condition and believes the presentation of these measures enhances investors' ability to analyze trends in FSK's business and to evaluate FSK's leverage and ability to take on additional debt. The presentation of this additional non-GAAP financial measure information is not meant to be considered in isolation or as a substitute for financial results prepared in accordance with GAAP. A reconciliation of GAAP debt outstanding to net debt outstanding and GAAP debt-to-equity ratio to the net debt-to-equity ratio can be found above.

4)

The per share data for distributions reflects the amount of distributions paid per share of our common stock to stockholders of record during each applicable period.

FS KKR Capital (FSK) Earnings Expected to Grow: Should You Buy?
FSK FS KKR Capital Corp
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Wall Street expects a year-over-year increase in earnings on lower revenues when FS KKR Capital (FSK - Free Report) reports results for the quarter ended June 2026. While this widely-known consensus outlook is important in gauging the company's earnings picture, a powerful factor that could impact its near-term stock price is how the actual results compare to these estimates.

The earnings report, which is expected to be released on August 6, might help the stock move higher if these key numbers are better than expectations. On the other hand, if they miss, the stock may move lower.

While management's discussion of business conditions on the earnings call will mostly determine the sustainability of the immediate price change and future earnings expectations, it's worth having a handicapping insight into the odds of a positive EPS surprise.

Zacks Consensus EstimateThis business development company is expected to post quarterly earnings of $0.41 per share in its upcoming report, which represents a year-over-year change of +168.3%.

Revenues are expected to be $289.11 million, down 27.4% from the year-ago quarter.

Estimate Revisions TrendThe consensus EPS estimate for the quarter has been revised 1.81% lower over the last 30 days to the current level. This is essentially a reflection of how the covering analysts have collectively reassessed their initial estimates over this period.

Investors should keep in mind that the direction of estimate revisions by each of the covering analysts may not always get reflected in the aggregate change.

Price, Consensus and EPS Surprise

Earnings WhisperEstimate revisions ahead of a company's earnings release offer clues to the business conditions for the period whose results are coming out. This insight is at the core of our proprietary surprise prediction model -- the Zacks Earnings ESP (Expected Surprise Prediction).

The Zacks Earnings ESP compares the Most Accurate Estimate to the Zacks Consensus Estimate for the quarter; the Most Accurate Estimate is a more recent version of the Zacks Consensus EPS estimate. The idea here is that analysts revising their estimates right before an earnings release have the latest information, which could potentially be more accurate than what they and others contributing to the consensus had predicted earlier.

Thus, a positive or negative Earnings ESP reading theoretically indicates the likely deviation of the actual earnings from the consensus estimate. However, the model's predictive power is significant for positive ESP readings only.

A positive Earnings ESP is a strong predictor of an earnings beat, particularly when combined with a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), 2 (Buy) or 3 (Hold). Our research shows that stocks with this combination produce a positive surprise nearly 70% of the time, and a solid Zacks Rank actually increases the predictive power of Earnings ESP.

Please note that a negative Earnings ESP reading is not indicative of an earnings miss. Our research shows that it is difficult to predict an earnings beat with any degree of confidence for stocks with negative Earnings ESP readings and/or Zacks Rank of 4 (Sell) or 5 (Strong Sell).

How Have the Numbers Shaped Up for FS KKR Capital? For FS KKR Capital, the Most Accurate Estimate is lower than the Zacks Consensus Estimate, suggesting that analysts have recently become bearish on the company's earnings prospects. This has resulted in an Earnings ESP of -1.84%.

On the other hand, the stock currently carries a Zacks Rank of #3.

So, this combination makes it difficult to conclusively predict that FS KKR Capital will beat the consensus EPS estimate.

Does Earnings Surprise History Hold Any Clue?Analysts often consider to what extent a company has been able to match consensus estimates in the past while calculating their estimates for its future earnings. So, it's worth taking a look at the surprise history for gauging its influence on the upcoming number.

For the last reported quarter, it was expected that FS KKR Capital would post earnings of $0.44 per share when it actually produced earnings of $0.41, delivering a surprise of -6.82%.

The company has not been able to beat consensus EPS estimates in any of the last four quarters.

Bottom LineAn earnings beat or miss may not be the sole basis for a stock moving higher or lower. Many stocks end up losing ground despite an earnings beat due to other factors that disappoint investors. Similarly, unforeseen catalysts help a number of stocks gain despite an earnings miss.

That said, betting on stocks that are expected to beat earnings expectations does increase the odds of success. This is why it's worth checking a company's Earnings ESP and Zacks Rank ahead of its quarterly release. Make sure to utilize our Earnings ESP Filter to uncover the best stocks to buy or sell before they've reported.

FS KKR Capital doesn't appear a compelling earnings-beat candidate. However, investors should pay attention to other factors too for betting on this stock or staying away from it ahead of its earnings release.

FSK's shareholders had a tough year as its stock price dropped by 50%. Non-accruals have surged to 8.1% on a cost basis, and top-performing investments dropped to ~90%, signaling deteriorating credit quality. 5 Income Stocks Yielding 10%+ with Dividends in Danger
FSK FS KKR Capital Corp
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Massive dividend yields are a huge draw for investors – both because everyone likes income…and because a company that can pay a dividend surely has the cash to pay out that dividend, right?

Most of the time, that’s true. But things can get rough when a company doesn’t have the cash to continue funding the dividend. One of your early signs is an especially high yield – in general, anything over 5% or 6% is worth digging into further. A yield that high may be a signal that the market is losing confidence in the business (and in its ability to continue funding the dividend). There are, of course, exceptions, but it’s a good initial rule of thumb.

It’s also worth understanding how much of a company’s earnings or cashflow are eaten up by the dividend.

For BDCs, the right coverage test is net investment income (NII) per share versus the dividend (GAAP EPS whipsaws on mark-to-market losses and distorts the picture). When NII stops covering the payout, when NAV per share slides, and when supplemental distributions quietly disappear, the payout is stretched. Here are five 10%+ yielders where those warning signs are lit.

Saratoga Investment Corp. (SAR) Saratoga Investment (NYSE:SAR) advertises a 14.0% annualized yield on its $0.25 monthly base dividend. Shares have since slid to $17.98, inflating the yield further.

The coverage math is the red flag. Q1 FY27 adjusted NII came in at $0.47 per share against a $0.75 quarterly dividend, a coverage ratio of just 0.63x, and NII has stepped down from $0.53 the prior quarter. Saratoga’s own filing flagged a FY26 payout ratio of 122.95%. NAV per share fell 4.9% sequentially to $23.23 on $15.2 million in net markdowns, and financing costs jumped after a $175 million bond at 4.375% was replaced with debt at 7.25% and 7.50%.

The bull case: $196.8 million of undrawn borrowing capacity and low non-accruals at 0.2% of fair value. But with NII covering less than two-thirds of the payout, the monthly $0.25 base looks stretched.

FS KKR Capital Corp. (FSK) FS KKR Capital (NYSE:FSK | FSK Price Prediction) is already mid-cut, and the numbers suggest the second reduction may not be the last. Shares are down 41.24% over the past year to $10.56.

The Q2 2026 distribution was stepped down to $0.42 from $0.48, following an earlier reduction from $0.70. Yet Q1 2026 adjusted EPS of $0.41 missed the $0.4433 consensus by 7.51% and barely covers even the new payout. NAV per share dropped to $18.83 from $20.89, non-accruals climbed to 4.2% at fair value (8.1% at cost), and net leverage spiked to 131%.

Act now: the analyst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just named his top 10 AI stocks — and Blue Owl Technology Finance didn't make the cut. Grab the names FREE today.

The KKR rescue package ($150 million preferred equity injection, $150 million tender at $11, a $300 million buyback, and a 50% incentive fee waiver for four quarters) is a lifeline that buys time without curing the underlying earnings gap. Securities class action lawsuits alleging overstated dividend durability tell you what the market thinks.

BlackRock TCP Capital Corp. (TCPC) BlackRock TCP Capital (NASDAQ:TCPC) has already cut once and still looks fragile. The quarterly dividend was reduced to $0.17 from $0.25 for Q1 2026, and shares have fallen 50.44% over the past year to $3.18, keeping the yield above 20%.

NII of $0.22 covers the new $0.17 dividend, but the cushion is thin and the trend is ugly. NAV per share collapsed 19% in Q4 2025 to $7.07 and slipped another 4.9% to $6.72 in Q1 2026. Thirteen portfolio companies sit on non-accrual, representing 7.6% at cost, and portfolio yield compression is severe: new investments are being originated at 8.1% while exits ran off at 11.2%. With management prioritizing exits over new deployments, forward NII faces further pressure.

Blue Owl Technology Finance Corp. (OTF) Blue Owl Technology Finance (NYSE:OTF) is the softer warning on this list, but the setup is classic price-driven yield inflation. Shares have dropped 24.32% year-to-date to $10.15, pushing the trailing yield well into double digits.

Q1 2026 adjusted NII of $0.29 beat the $0.25 estimate, but NII has slid for four straight quarters from $0.36 in Q2 2025 to $0.29 today, while the $0.40 payout ($0.35 base plus $0.05 special) has held. Crucially, that $0.05 special is part of a five-quarter series tied to the June 2025 listing. When it rolls off, the run-rate payout drops to $1.40. Add $494.28 million in unrealized losses, NAV down to $16.49 from $17.33, and new commitment spreads compressed to 4.6% from 5.2%, and the picture is a fading tailwind.

Blue Owl Capital Corp. (OBDC) Blue Owl Capital (NYSE:OBDC) already trimmed its base dividend and left itself no cushion. The Q2 2026 payout was cut to $0.31 from $0.37, described by management as an alignment with “go-forward earnings power amid declining base rates and spread compression.”

Q1 2026 adjusted EPS of $0.31 missed the $0.35 consensus by 10.74% and now exactly matches the new dividend, meaning zero coverage cushion. Total investment income of $396.77 million fell 11.4% sequentially, and the portfolio shrank to $15.34 billion from $16.47 billion as repayments outpaced deployments. On the other side of the ledger, Moody’s upgraded OBDC to Baa2 in January 2026, leverage improved to 1.13x, and management points to roughly $4 billion of liquidity. But 1.0x NII coverage leaves no margin for another bad quarter.

The Bottom Line Across all five names, the pattern is the same: NII squeezed by falling short-term rates, spreads compressing on new deals, and NAV grinding lower. A yield only counts if the payout survives. When a cut lands, the share price usually goes with it, and the “income” disappears in both directions at once. Yield alone has never been a buy thesis; in today’s BDC market, it may be the fastest way to walk into a trap.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for Investors Regarding the FS KKR Capital Corp. Securities Class Action Lawsuit:

What is the FS KKR Capital securities fraud lawsuit about?
The FS KKR Capital securities fraud lawsuit is a federal securities class action alleging that FS KKR Capital Corp. (NYSE: FSK) and its executives made false and misleading statements to investors by overstating the effectiveness of its portfolio restructuring efforts for nonaccrual companies, overstating the valuation of its portfolio investments, and overstating the durability of its quarterly distribution strategy. As the truth emerged through a series of disclosures — including an August 6, 2025 report revealing a 6.2% decline in net asset value, a $474 million drop in total fair value of investments, and a loss per share of negative $0.75, followed by a February 25, 2026 announcement of further NAV deterioration, an additional $406 million decline in investment fair value, a dividend cut from $0.70 to $0.48 per share, and an acknowledgment that identified problem companies accounted for only 50% of net realized and unrealized losses — FSK's stock price dropped sharply, causing significant losses for investors.

Who may be eligible to participate in the FS KKR Capital class action lawsuit?
Investors who purchased or acquired FS KKR Capital Corp. (FSK) stock between May 8, 2024 and February 25, 2026 — the Class Period — and suffered financial losses may be eligible to participate in the FS KKR Capital securities class action. Participation as a class member does not require taking any affirmative legal action; eligible investors may recover losses simply by remaining members of the class. Whistleblowers, former FS KKR Capital employees, and others with relevant information about the Company's conduct are also encouraged to come forward.

What is a lead plaintiff, and how can I seek appointment in the FS KKR Capital lawsuit?
A lead plaintiff in the FS KKR Capital class action is a court-appointed investor — typically the one with the largest financial interest in the case — who directs and oversees the litigation on behalf of all class members. Any FS KKR Capital investor who purchased FSK stock during the Class Period may move the Court to serve as lead plaintiff through counsel of their choice. The deadline to seek lead plaintiff appointment is July 3, 2026. Importantly, choosing not to seek the lead plaintiff role does not affect an investor's ability to share in any recovery obtained for the class.

What should investors do if they purchased FS KKR Capital stock during the Class Period?
Investors who purchased FS KKR Capital Corp. (FSK) stock between May 8, 2024 and February 25, 2026 and suffered losses should contact Faruqi & Faruqi, LLP immediately to discuss their legal rights. The deadline to seek appointment as lead plaintiff in the FS KKR Capital securities class action is July 3, 2026. What Happened?

On August 6, 2025, after the market closed, the Company reported second quarter 2025 earnings, revealing that the Company’s net asset value had declined to $21.93 per share, down $1.44, or 6.2% from the prior quarter, and the total fair value of investments fell $474 million, to $13,648 million. Moreover, the Company reported earnings (loss) per share of negative $0.75, down $1.18 or 274.4% from the prior quarter, and a total net realized and unrealized loss per share of negative $1.36, down $1.12 or 466.7% from the prior quarter. Further, investments on non-accrual status rose to 3.0% and 5.3% of the total investment portfolio at fair value and amortized cost, respectively, compared to 2.1% and 3.5% in the prior quarter.

However, the Company maintained that its “operating results and corresponding net asset value” were merely “impacted by company specific issues affecting four portfolio companies, each of which have been discussed on prior earnings calls.”

On this news, share prices fell $1.66 or 8.20% to close at $18.58 per share on August 7, 2025, on unusually heavy trading volume.

Then, on February 25, 2026, after the market closed, the Company announced fourth quarter and full year 2025 earnings, revealing net asset value had continued to decline to $20.89, down $1.10 or 5% from prior quarter, and the total fair value of investments fell another $406 million, to $13,009 million. Moreover, the Company reported earnings (loss) per share of negative $0.41, down $1.17 or 153.9% from the prior quarter, and a total net realized and unrealized loss per share of negative $0.89, down $1.08 or 568.421% from the prior quarter. Further, investments on non-accrual status again rose to 3.4% and 5.5% of the total investment portfolio at fair value and amortized cost, respectively, compared to 2.9% and 5.0% in the prior quarter. The Company also “acknowledge[d] specific challenges” with additional companies and cut its dividend to $0.48 per share (previously $0.70).

In the accompanying earnings call, the Company’s Chief Investment Officer was forced to acknowledge that its “recent underperformance reflects challenges in certain legacy investments” in addition to those previously discussed. Further, challenges ran much deeper, as the Company revealed issues with the identified companies only accounted for “50% of net realized and unrealized losses.”

On this news, the Company’s stock price fell $2.03 or 15.24%, to close at $11.29 per share on February 26, 2026, on unusually heavy trading volume.

What Is The Lawsuit About?

The complaint filed in this class action alleges that throughout the Class Period, Defendants made materially false and/or misleading statements, as well as failed to disclose material adverse facts about the Company’s business, operations, and prospects. Specifically, Defendants failed to disclose to investors: (1) the Company overstated the effectiveness of its portfolio restructuring efforts for its nonaccrual companies; (2) the Company overstated the valuation of its portfolio investments and/or overstated the effectiveness of the Company’s portfolio valuation process; (3) the Company overstated the durability of its quarterly distribution strategy; and (4) that, as a result of the foregoing, Defendants’ positive statements about the Company’s business, operations, and prospects were materially misleading and/or lacked a reasonable basis.

Any FS KKR Capital investor who purchased FSK stock during the Class Period may move the Court to serve as lead plaintiff through counsel of their choice. The FS KKR class action lawsuit alleges that defendants throughout the Class Period made false and/or misleading statements and/or failed to disclose that: (i) FS KKR overstated the effectiveness of its portfolio restructuring efforts for its nonaccrual companies; (ii) FS KKR overstated the valuation of its portfolio investments and/or overstated the effectiveness of FS KKR's portfolio valuation process; and (iii) FS KKR overstated the durability of its quarterly distribution strategy.

The FS KKR class action lawsuit further alleges that on August 6, 2025, FS KKR reported second quarter 2025 earnings, revealing that FS KKR's net asset value had declined to $21.93 per share, down $1.44, or 6.2% from the prior quarter, and the total fair value of investments fell $474 million, to $13,648 million. Moreover, FS KKR allegedly reported a loss per share of negative $0.75, down $1.18 or 274.4% from the prior quarter, and a total net realized and unrealized loss per share of negative $1.36, down $1.12 or 466.7% from the prior quarter. Further, investments on non-accrual status allegedly rose to 3.0% and 5.3% of the total investment portfolio at fair value and amortized cost, respectively, compared to 2.1% and 3.5% in the prior quarter. On this news, the price of FS KKR stock fell more than 8%, according to the complaint.

Then, on February 25, 2026, FS KKR announced fourth quarter and full year 2025 earnings, allegedly revealing net asset value had continued to decline to $20.89, down $1.10 or 5% from the prior quarter, and the total fair value of investments fell another $406 million, to $13,009 million. Moreover, FS KKR allegedly reported a loss per share of negative $0.41, down $1.17 or 153.9% from the prior quarter, and a total net realized and unrealized loss per share of negative $0.89, down $1.08 or 568.421% from the prior quarter. Further, investments on non-accrual status again rose to 3.4% and 5.5% of the total investment portfolio at fair value and amortized cost, respectively, compared to 2.9% and 5.0% in the prior quarter. FS KKR also allegedly "acknowledge[d] specific challenges" with additional companies and cut its dividend to $0.48 per share (previously $0.70). On the accompanying earnings call, FS KKR's Chief Investment Officer, was allegedly forced to acknowledge that its "recent underperformance reflects challenges in certain legacy investments" in addition to those previously discussed, including Medallia and Cubic Corp. Further, challenges ran much deeper, as FS KKR revealed issues with the identified companies only accounted for "50% of net realized and unrealized losses." On this news, the price of FS KKR stock fell more than 15%, according to the FS KKR class action lawsuit.
