Shell schvaluje rozšíření LNG Canada na 28 mtpa
FLR Fluor Corporation
FMP Stock News 86
Original source text
Key Takeaways Shell approves LNG Canada Phase 2, doubling production capacity from 14 mtpa to 28 mtpa.Shell expects nearly 6 mtpa of additional LNG and double-digit returns once Phase 2 comes online.Phase 2 also triggers a Coastal GasLink expansion and a Fluor contract valued at about $7.5 billion. Shell plc (SHEL - Free Report) ,through its affiliate Shell Canada Energy, has taken a final investment decision (FID) on the second phase of the LNG Canada project in Kitimat, British Columbia. The decision clears the way for a major expansion that will double the facility’s production capacity and strengthen Shell’s position in the global liquefied natural gas market.

The move marks a significant development from earlier this month, when the LNG Canada partners were still evaluating the proposed expansion. Phase 2 will add two LNG processing trains and lift the facility’s total production capacity from 14 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 28 mtpa. Commercial operations are expected to begin in the early 2030s.

Shell Secures More LNG From CanadaShell owns a 40% stake in LNG Canada and is expected to receive nearly 6 mtpa of additional LNG once Phase 2 comes online. The expansion is aligned with the energy major’s strategy of maintaining a leading integrated gas and LNG business through the 2040s while connecting Canadian natural gas resources with its worldwide trading and customer network.

The project is also expected to generate double-digit returns and support Shell’s long-term cash-flow growth. Shell said the investment is expected to deliver an internal rate of return above the hurdle rate for its Integrated Gas business.

The latest FID follows LNG Canada’s successful ramp-up. As highlighted in our previous coverage, the first phase shipped its first cargo in 2025 and subsequently reached full capacity. By the second quarter of 2026, the project had delivered more than 100 cargoes, while its ramp-up helped Shell’s first-half 2026 LNG liquefaction volumes rise 17% year over year.

Phase 2 Targets Growing Asian LNG DemandLNG Canada benefits from its location on Canada’s Pacific Coast, providing relatively direct access to major Asian LNG-consuming markets. This positioning could become increasingly valuable as buyers seek geographically diversified and reliable sources of natural gas.

Shell expects global LNG demand to expand significantly over the coming decades. According to its LNG Outlook 2026, worldwide LNG demand is projected to rise around 60% by 2040 and about 65% by 2050. Demand is expected to increase from 422 mtpa in 2025 to nearly 700 mtpa by 2050, implying the need for additional liquefaction capacity through the 2030s and 2040s.

That outlook strengthens the strategic case for bringing additional Canadian LNG supplies into Shell’s global portfolio.

Expansion Extends Beyond Two New LNG TrainsThe Phase 2 development will involve more than the addition of two liquefaction trains. Plans also include another LNG storage tank, a condensate tank, an additional loading berth and expanded utility and processing systems at the existing Kitimat facility.

The LNG Canada joint venture includes Shell with a 40% interest, PETRONAS with 25%, PetroChina with 15%, Mitsubishi Corporation with 15% and Korea Gas Corporation with 5%. Each partner is responsible for marketing its proportional share of LNG production and supplying its share of feed gas.

Earlier plans also created an option for MNT Investments LP, representing five neighboring First Nations, to invest up to C$1 billion for a majority interest in an entity that would own the LNG storage tank associated with Phase 2.

Coastal GasLink Capacity Set to Nearly DoubleShell’s decision has also unlocked TC Energy Corporation’s (TRP - Free Report) related expansion of the Coastal GasLink (CGL) pipeline, which supplies natural gas to LNG Canada.

TRP announced that CGL Phase 2 will now proceed after LNG Canada’s FID satisfied the conditions tied to its previously approved conditional investment decision. The pipeline currently transports about 2.1 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas. Phase 2 is designed to nearly double that capacity by adding compressor stations and upgrading infrastructure along the existing 670-kilometer route to Kitimat.

Under the execution structure, LNG Canada will manage construction while CGL will remain the pipeline’s owner, operator and permit holder. CGL and TC Energy will provide certain technical advisory and procurement services along with operational expertise to support delivery. The structure is intended to limit CGL’s capital commitments as well as its exposure to construction cost and scheduling risks.

Fluor Lands Major Phase 2 ContractThe FID also created a major project opportunity for Fluor Corporation (FLR - Free Report) . Fluor said its joint venture with JGC Corporation has been selected to provide engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction and commissioning services for Phase 2.

Fluor’s share of the award is valued at approximately $7.5 billion and is expected to enter its backlog in the third quarter of fiscal 2026. The contract adds substantial long-duration work to Fluor’s Energy Solutions business and gives the company another large assignment at the LNG Canada site after its involvement in the first phase.

LNG Canada Becomes a Bigger Pillar of Shell’s LNG StrategyThe Phase 2 FID transforms LNG Canada from a recently commissioned growth project into a much larger long-term platform for Shell, currently carrying a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Doubling capacity to 28 mtpa gives the company greater access to Asian LNG demand while broadening the geographic diversity of its global supply portfolio.

The decision also triggers sizable infrastructure work beyond the liquefaction plant, including the Coastal GasLink expansion and a multibillion-dollar Fluor contract. With global LNG consumption expected to rise substantially over the coming decades, LNG Canada Phase 2 could become an increasingly important contributor to Shell’s Integrated Gas growth and cash-flow ambitions.

An aerial view of LNG Canada’s liquified natural gas (LNG) export facility in Kitimat, British Columbia. Fluor and its joint venture partner, JGC Corporation, will provide engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction and commissioning for Phase 2 of the project, which will be built adjacent to the existing facility.

The Phase 2 award builds on the joint venture’s successful delivery of Phase 1 and its established track record on the project.

“LNG Canada Phase 1 was a landmark achievement for Fluor, and we are excited to carry that momentum into the next chapter,” said Jim Breuer, Chief Executive Officer of Fluor. “The decision to proceed with Phase 2 reflects confidence in Canada’s ability to responsibly develop its natural gas resources and connect them with global markets. Our teams will apply the experience and lessons learned from Phase 1 to deliver a successful project.”

Phase 2 will include the construction and commissioning of an additional LNG storage tank and two new liquefaction units, known as trains, doubling the facility’s production capacity to approximately 28 million tonnes per annum. The expansion will enhance processing, storage and shipping capabilities to meet growing global demand for reliable LNG.

“Reaching FID is an important milestone for LNG Canada and Fluor,” said Pierre Bechelany, Fluor’s Business Group President of Energy Solutions. “Our long-standing relationship and successful delivery of Phase 1 provides a strong foundation for the work ahead. As construction progresses, our focus will remain on safety, quality and collaboration with our partners, First Nations and local communities.”

The joint venture delivered Phase 1 including engineering, procurement, fabrication management, construction and commissioning of two processing trains and associated infrastructure. The facility began producing LNG in June 2025. Handover of the facility was completed in October 2025.

Located on Canada’s west coast, the LNG Canada site benefits from access to abundant natural gas resources and an ice‑free deepwater harbor. With the Phase 2 expansion, the facility will be positioned to make a greater long‑term contribution to global energy security and strengthen Canada’s position as a leading LNG exporter.

LNG Canada is a joint venture comprised of Shell (40%), PETRONAS (25%), PetroChina (15%), Mitsubishi Corporation (15%) and KOGAS (5%).

Work at the LNG export facility for the Phase 2 project is being executed by JGC Fluor BC LNG II JV, a Canadian joint venture comprised of Fluor Canada Ltd (50%) and JGC Constructors (No2) BC Ltd (50%).

Druckenmiller otevřel novou pozici ve Fluor, Soros prodal celý podíl
FLR Fluor Corporation
FMP Stock News 78
Original source text
Three billionaires, one unglamorous engineering stock, three different answers. In Q2 2026 13F filings disclosing positions as of June 30, 2026 and filed August 14, 2026, Stanley Druckenmiller, George Soros and David Einhorn each moved on Fluor (NYSE:FLR | FLR Price Prediction), and they moved in opposite directions. The most interesting institutional disagreements often happen in names nobody is tweeting about.

Fluor is a Texas-based engineering, procurement and construction firm serving energy, chemicals, mining, infrastructure and US government end markets. Market cap sits around $7 billion, with a backlog of $26.9 billion that is 85% reimbursable. Shares are up 32.15% year to date and 26.04% over one year, closing at $52.37 on August 14, 2026.

Here’s what’s interesting: while Fluor is underfollowed, Wall Street also sees it as a backdoor play nuclear play that could see strong growth in the years ahead as infrastructure building soars across the United States.

David Einhorn: The Wall Street Icon Who Stayed Greenlight Capital is the anchor holder of this trio. Einhorn sold 88,600 shares, leaving 4,658,750 shares valued at $244,071,913. The filing shows a share delta of roughly negative 0.019. This was a trim. Fluor remains among Greenlight’s largest disclosed long US equity positions.

Stanley Druckenmiller: A Brand New Position Duquesne Family Office opened Fluor from zero, reporting 982,200 shares valued at $51,457,000. The position was built from zero during the quarter. Druckenmiller’s filing discloses the position only. What we can say: the buy landed in a quarter when Fluor booked $6.10 billion in new awards, 89% reimbursable, and beat on adjusted EPS of $0.91 versus $0.70 consensus.

George Soros: A Small Exit Soros Fund Management sold all 50,814 shares, taking the position to zero. Relative to Soros’s disclosed book this was a small holding, and 13F exits can reflect rebalancing, risk limits or redemptions rather than a bearish call. Reading the tape as a thesis change would overstate the signal.

Bull And Bear Case The bull case rests on backlog conversion. CEO Jim Breuer told analysts, “The pull-through capture of our prospect pipeline is taking flight…we didn’t expect some of these awards until the back half of the year.” Growth vectors include a $30 billion in-house mining and metals pipeline, the Centris Fuel Enrichment award, and LNG Canada Phase 2 limited notice to proceed. Analyst consensus target sits at $60.69 on 4 buys and 5 holds, with a forward PE near 19.

There’s also some secular trends that could benefit Fluor. The company had a large holding in SMR company NuScale (NYSE: SMR), but completely exited that position in April 2026. The company remains NuScale’s preferred EPC partner and has other wins in the space such as a front-end project with X-energy for an SMR project, and an EPC contract for a uranium enrichment facility from Centrus (NYSE: LEU). It’s worth noting that Fluor’s largest division is Urban Solutions, so its ‘Energy and Mission Solutions’ is additive rather than the company’s main profit driver. Other energy segments include LNG, copper, data centers, and fertilizers.

Still, if nuclear does take off in a significant way, that should be a tailwind to Fluor as the company is often cited as a top ‘picks and shovels’ play for the trend.

The bear case is legacy fixed-price risk. Q2 absorbed $44 million of cost growth on the Gordie Howe International Bridge, Q1 took a $96 million LOGCAP charge, and 2026 adjusted EBITDA guidance was narrowed to $500 to $525 million after the Mexico JV sale. Trailing EPS is negative $11.69 on the NuScale write-down.

Two of three managers stayed constructive. That is the signal worth watching.

IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) announced financial results for its second quarter ended June 30, 2026.

“Our second quarter awards demonstrate the successful pull-through of our front-end work and the confidence clients have in Fluor to advance their most important investments,” said Jim Breuer, chief executive officer of Fluor. “These awards reflect conversion of our prospect pipeline, which we continue to replenish with additional opportunities. We remain focused on disciplined growth in our selected markets, strategic capital allocation and long-term value creation for our clients and shareholders.”

Q2 2026 Highlights:

Revenue of $4.3 billion, up 9% y/y GAAP net earnings attributable to Fluor of $114 million Adjusted EBITDA [1] of $149 million EPS of $0.81; adjusted EPS [1] of $0.91 Consolidated segment profit [1] of $170 million Cash and marketable securities at quarter end were $3.0 billion G&A expenses of $41 million Completed NuScale monetization in April Operating Cash Flow: ($317) million, includes $357 million tax payment related to NuScale monetization New Awards: $6.1 billion, compared with $1.8 billion in the prior-year period; 89% reimbursable Backlog: $26.9 billion; 85% reimbursable, with legacy project backlog reduced to $119 million [1] Non-GAAP Financial Measure. See “Non-GAAP Financial Measures” for additional information.

Outlook

We are not providing forward-looking guidance for U.S. GAAP net earnings or U.S. GAAP earnings per share, or a quantitative reconciliation of adjusted EBITDA or adjusted EPS guidance, because we are unable to predict with reasonable certainty all of the components required to provide such reconciliation without unreasonable efforts, which are uncertain and could have a material impact on GAAP reported results for the guidance period. See “Non-GAAP Financial Measures” for additional information.

The company is narrowing its 2026 adjusted EBITDA guidance from $525 – $560 million to $500 – $525 million. This reduction reflects the removal of the previously estimated 2nd half contribution from the JV in Mexico. Adjusted EBITDA guidance excludes items similar to those outlined in the reconciliation table at the end of this release.

Business Segments

Urban Solutions reported second quarter segment profit of $38 million, compared with $29 million in the prior-year period, reflecting increased execution levels on mining and metals projects, partially offset by cost growth of $44 million for the now substantially completed Gordie Howe International Bridge project due to the effects of foreign currency fluctuation, a subcontractor bankruptcy and client driven changes. Revenue improved to $2.9 billion, compared with $2.1 billion a year ago. New awards totaled $3.2 billion, compared with $856 million in the prior-year period. Awards for the quarter included a fertilizer project in Canada, an incremental life sciences award in the United States, and an infrastructure project in Europe. Ending backlog was $19.4 billion, compared with $20.6 billion a year ago.

Energy Solutions reported second quarter segment profit of $88 million, compared with $15 million in the prior-year period. Results reflect favorable close out items on certain projects, including our former JV in Mexico. Revenue was $709 million, compared with $1.1 billion a year ago. New awards totaled $704 million, compared with $549 million in the second quarter of 2025. New awards for the quarter included a gas compression project on the west coast and the limited notice to proceed on the phase 2 expansion of the LNG Canada project. Ending backlog was $3.5 billion, compared with $5.6 billion a year ago.

Mission Solutions reported second quarter segment profit of $44 million, compared with $35 million in the prior year period. Results reflect improved award fee performance within our DOE portfolio. Second quarter revenue was $716 million, compared with $762 million a year ago. New awards increased to $2.2 billion from $363 million in the second quarter of 2025 and included the reimbursable EPC contract for the Centrus nuclear fuel enrichment facility.

Non-GAAP Financial Measures

This news release contains discussions of consolidated segment profit (loss) and margin, adjusted net earnings (loss), adjusted EPS and adjusted EBITDA that are non-GAAP financial measures under SEC rules. Segment profit (loss) is calculated as revenue less cost of revenue and earnings attributable to noncontrolling interests. The company believes that segment profit (loss) provides a meaningful perspective on its business results as it is the aggregation of individual segment profit measures that the company utilizes to evaluate and manage its business performance. Adjusted net earnings (loss) is defined as net earnings (loss) from core operations excluding equity method earnings and the impacts of foreign exchange fluctuations, impairments and certain items that management believes are unrelated to actual normalized operational performance. Net earnings (loss) from core operations is net earnings (loss) attributable to Fluor excluding the results of our remaining Stork and AMECO equipment businesses that are no longer classified as discontinued operations but that continue to be marketed for sale or that have been sold. Adjusted EPS is defined as adjusted net earnings divided by weighted average diluted shares outstanding. Adjusted EBITDA is defined as net earnings from operations before interest, income taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA), further adjusted by the same items excluded from adjusted net earnings. The company believes adjusted net earnings, adjusted EPS and adjusted EBITDA allow investors to evaluate the company’s ongoing earnings on a normalized basis and make meaningful period-over-period comparisons. However, non-GAAP measures have limitations as analytical tools and should not be considered in isolation from or a substitute for measures of financial performance prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP. In addition, these non-GAAP measures are not necessarily comparable to similarly titled measures reported by other companies. Reconciliations of consolidated segment profit (loss), adjusted net earnings, adjusted EPS and adjusted EBITDA to the most comparable GAAP measures are included in the press release tables. The company is unable to provide a reconciliation of its adjusted EPS and adjusted EBITDA guidance to the most comparable GAAP measure without unreasonable efforts because it is unable to predict with reasonable certainty all of the components required to provide such reconciliation, including the impact of foreign exchange fluctuations, which are uncertain and could have a material impact on GAAP reported results for the guidance period.

FLR Fluor Corporation
FMP Stock News 78
Original source text
Fluor (FLR - Free Report) came out with quarterly earnings of $0.91 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $0.73 per share. This compares to earnings of $0.43 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items.

This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of +24.66%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this engineering, construction and operations company would post earnings of $0.66 per share when it actually produced earnings of $0.14, delivering a surprise of -78.79%.

Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus EPS estimates two times.

Fluor, which belongs to the Zacks Engineering - R and D Services industry, posted revenues of $4.33 billion for the quarter ended June 2026, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 13.97%. This compares to year-ago revenues of $3.98 billion. The company has topped consensus revenue estimates just once over the last four quarters.

The sustainability of the stock's immediate price movement based on the recently-released numbers and future earnings expectations will mostly depend on management's commentary on the earnings call.

Fluor shares have added about 23% since the beginning of the year versus the S&P 500's gain of 12.6%.

What's Next for Fluor? While Fluor has outperformed the market so far this year, the question that comes to investors' minds is: what's next for the stock?

There are no easy answers to this key question, but one reliable measure that can help investors address this is the company's earnings outlook. Not only does this include current consensus earnings expectations for the coming quarter(s), but also how these expectations have changed lately.

Empirical research shows a strong correlation between near-term stock movements and trends in earnings estimate revisions. Investors can track such revisions by themselves or rely on a tried-and-tested rating tool like the Zacks Rank, which has an impressive track record of harnessing the power of earnings estimate revisions.

Ahead of this earnings release, the estimate revisions trend for Fluor was unfavorable. While the magnitude and direction of estimate revisions could change following the company's just-released earnings report, the current status translates into a Zacks Rank #5 (Strong Sell) for the stock. So, the shares are expected to underperform the market in the near future. You can see the complete list of today's Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here.

It will be interesting to see how estimates for the coming quarters and the current fiscal year change in the days ahead. The current consensus EPS estimate is $0.85 on $3.92 billion in revenues for the coming quarter and $2.63 on $15.66 billion in revenues for the current fiscal year.

Investors should be mindful of the fact that the outlook for the industry can have a material impact on the performance of the stock as well. In terms of the Zacks Industry Rank, Engineering - R and D Services is currently in the top 40% of the 250 plus Zacks industries. Our research shows that the top 50% of the Zacks-ranked industries outperform the bottom 50% by a factor of more than 2 to 1.

Another stock from the same industry, TSS Inc. (TSSI - Free Report) , has yet to report results for the quarter ended June 2026. The results are expected to be released on August 13.
