Top 11 Programming Languages for Blockchain Development
BTC Bitcoin ETC Ethereum Classic ETH Ethereum LTC Litecoin MIOTA IOTA NEO NEO SKY Skycoin XEM NEM XLM Stellar Lumens XMR Monero
CoinGecko News
Original source text
Blockchain is a decentralized, secure and very fast technology that is already making waves in the business world. The blockchain is beginning to run the world with numerous blockchain projects being developed and deployed on the internet. There are companies already trying to build on what other people developed. All of these blockchain developments are done in different programming languages, some of which are explained below.

1. JavaScript

This is a high-level programming language and more importantly, it is a weakly typed, dynamic, prototype-based and leading web technology in the world. This programming language is very popular, and there are already new frameworks being created for javascript, which can be used to develop codes.

Javascript is very easy and you only need to understand the basics to start to work on this language. It is mostly used in blockchain development in ethereum.js and web3.js which are used to connect the application frontend with smart contracts and ethereum networks. It is also used for node.js in the Hyperledger Fabric SDK which is the framework that many big companies use. Another blockchain you can use javascript for is the NEO.

2. C#

C# is an object-oriented, compiled and high-level programming language that was created for Microsoft late into the 90s/the early ‘00s. Numerous ivory research has shown that this language is similar to C++ or Java, and it is more difficult to learn this language than the Javascript language. Although, it is also not as complicated as some other languages such as Go.

There are a number of popular blockchain projects that the C# language is being used for. The most popular of such blockchain project is the NEO, something that’s popularly referred to as the Chinese rendition of Ethereum. Another popular blockchain project it is used for is IOTA, zero-fee transactions and highly scalable projects centered on IoT (Internet of Things).

3. C++

This is an object-oriented, high speed, strongly static and compiled programming language. This language has access to hardware and high-level efficiency. Even though it was developed back in the 70s and 80s, as an extension of the C language.

This language is quite complicated and is more difficult to learn than the C language, as some top writers have noted. And if you are a beginner or just learning to code, this language is not for you.

Interestingly, it has been used in many popular and important blockchain cryptocurrencies and projects such as Bitcoin, Bitcoin cash, Eos, Monero, QTUM, Stellar, Cpp-ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin, etc.

4. Python

Python is a dynamically typed and trendy high-level programming language that supports functional programming and is also object-oriented. This programming language is growing in popularity than before and is the ideal language to use in developing artificial intelligence and machine learning features.

Many big IT companies create frameworks and smart tools to support Python, and it’s often used to create chatbots.

This very easy and popular language has also been used for numerous projects in the blockchain. One of such examples is its implementation of Ethereum, known as pythereum. It can also be used to create smart contracts for Hyperledger as well as NEO contracts. Python also has its own implementation of steemit known as steempython.

5. Golang

This language called Go for short, is a compiled, statically typed programming language that was developed by employees from Google. The idea of Golang is to have a combination of the efficiency of a compiled language such as C++ and the ease of developing codes such as Python.

This language is quite complicated and developers at papersowl are of the opinion that it is very difficult to learn this language. However, most of the developers with this opinion are python and javascript developers. Developers on C++ will find it easier to learn Go.

There are a lot of blockchain projects that Go has been used for. One of such is the Go-Ethereum blockchain written in this language. Another one is Hyperledger Fabric which is the blockchain solution that big organizations opt for.

6. Solidity

Solidity is a statically typed and contact-oriented programming language developed by the developers of Ethereum. This language was created the main language for the development of the smart contract, and is, therefore, the ethereum’s smart contract primary language.

Solidity is like a smaller copy of javascript with little changes. It is therefore not very complicated. So if you’re a mid-level developer, it’ll take you just a few days to learn this language.

This language is used primarily in the development of Ethereum smart contracts.

7. Java

This programming language, developed by Sun Microsystems, is a strongly typed language, based on object and class. Java is an object-oriented language popularly used in many big companies.

The difficulty level of java can be compared to that of C#, which is quite complicated and harder to learn than python or javascript. But still, this programming language is still very popular and there are numerous custom papers to help if you are just learning to code. But it is difficult to tell which is easier, Java, C++ or Golang?

Java is also used very widely in the blockchain industry. It is popularly used in IOTA, P2P cryptocurrency and NEM platform also uses java. Other objects where java is being used in the blockchain are the IBM blockchain, NEO contract, Ethereum, Bitcoin J, Hyperledger’s contract.

8. Rust

Rust is a strongly typed and compiled programming language that has been sponsored by Mozilla since 2009. This language is very similar to the C++ programming language, so you really can’t say that it’s a language that can be learned easily. The entry level for this language is high as it has a very small community, so we can safely rate its difficulty as hard.

There are only very few blockchain projects using this programming language. Parity is one of the few. A secure and fast ethereum client written in Rust. The most popular blockchain project written in Rust is the Ethereum Classic, a cryptocurrency birthed after Ethereum was hacked. Exonum, a security-oriented blockchain framework is also written in Rust.

9. Ruby

Ruby was developed in Japan by Yukihiro Matsumoto in the 1990s. This programming language is purely object-oriented. In fact, everything is an object in Ruby apart from the blocks, and they also have their replacement in procs and lambda.

Ruby was developed to act as a buffer between the underlying computing machine and human programmers. The syntax of this programming language is similar to other languages like Java and C, so it’s easier to learn this language for C and Java programmers.

10. CX

CX gives pointers, propelled cuts and array, and it also possesses the simple error control highlights which makes it convenient to design any blockchain with it. It was assembled over Go initially, and this stops the frameworks of CX from performing discretionary codes, which is a problem associated with business programming.

This programming language was made for the blockchain development of Skycoin, with a capacity for it to work as an intermediary for digital contracts.

CX integrates with Open Graphics Library (OpenGL) and uses the capacity of the GPU proficiently.

11. Simplicity

This is a relatively new programming language birthed in late 2017. It was designed mainly for blockchain development and smart contracts. It helps to increase productivity by hiding low-level logical components.

This language is object-oriented, similar to C++, and it uses blockchain principles to prevent data changes and errors.

The developers are still working on expanding the capabilities of this language, the features are going to be finalized and it will be added to bitcoin. So, we expect that from mid-2020, Simplicity should have more applications.

Conclusion Blockchain technology which makes it possible for us to have cryptocurrency exchange is, without doubts, here to stay. Blockchain developments are getting better with languages such as simplicity being specifically to make blockchain development a smoother process.

Vertcoin Review: ASIC Resistant & GPU Mined Alternative to Bitcoin
BTC Bitcoin ETH Ethereum VTC Vertcoin
CoinGecko News
Original source text
Vertcoin (VTC) is one of the more established cryptocurrencies that was launched "way back" in 2014 without too much fanfare.

It was released without an ICO, without an airdrop, and without a pre-mine as a simple blockchain project on Github. It was and is open-source and was built on the Bitcoin codebase with one simple change – Vertcoin is committed to remaining ASIC-free.

However, with so many newer projects, can Vertcoin still stand out?

In this Viacoin review, I will give you everything that you need to know about this project. I will also take a look at the long term adoption potential of VTC tokens.

What is Vertcoin?Vertcoin is a fork of Bitcoin that took place in January of 2014. It was created as a GPU mined version of Bitcoin in order to ensure decentralization and therefore, network security.

It’s this strong commitment to mining fairness that distinguishes Vertcoin from other cryptocurrencies that are Proof-of-Work but have fallen to the power of ASIC mining and the decreasing decentralization that follows.

Vertcoin remains the coin that can be mined by anyone with a GPU, and the community of volunteers that support the project have ensured it remains this way, even though the project has already faced three hard forks to keep it free from ASIC miners and botnets.

In the past Vertcoin has referred to itself as “The People’s Coin” because it remained committed to the ideals from the Bitcoin whitepaper that kept voting power of the network with the individual. That ideal was that one CPU is equal to one vote, but the rise of ASIC miners and large mining pools has sadly meant that most Proof-of-Work cryptocurrencies no longer adhere to that ideal.

The Vertcoin AlgorithmBeing based off of Bitcoin, Vertcoin was created to use Proof-of-Work as its consensus method. Unlike Bitcoin’s use of SHA-256, Vertcoin used Scrypt Adaptive N as its algorithm when it launched in order to remain ASIC resistant. It was less than a year later that the coin had to undergo a hard fork to remain ASIC resistant, and it switched to the Lyra2RE algorithm.

Less than a year after that the Vertcoin development team found that a botnet had taken control of more than 50% of the network, and this prompted a move to the Lyra2Ev2 algorithm.

Algorithms ASICs hash & resistant Algorithms. Via Vertcoin Blog

That lasted until late 2018, when it was discovered that an ASIC capable of mining the Lyra2REv2 algorithm had been created in China. On February 1, 2019, Vertcoin forked for a third time to the Lyra2REv3 algorithm.

Vertcoin has also taken the trouble to make itself Lightning Network compatible, as well as implementing Segregated Witness, and providing compatibility with Stealth Addresses. The development team is now working on upgrading the blockchain to allow for instantaneous atomic swaps.

Vertcoin Fair MiningAs mentioned above Vertcoin has already been through three hard forks, and another is on the way due to new developments in the hardware used to mine cryptocurrencies.

This new development is the rise of Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) hardware.

The FPGA device is the GPU equivalent of ASIC mining, which is a CPU based device. The previous Lyra2REv2 algorithm was totally exploitable by FPGA devices, and the newer Lyra2REv3 algorithm will soon be affected as well. This would do away with fair mining and could push all the individual GPU miners away from Vertcoin.

FPGA Compared to other computing chips. Via Reconfigure.io

The Vertcoin developers are now working on a new algorithm which they are calling Verthash. It’s been in development for quite some time, and while there is still no release date set for the new algorithm the team has been diligently working to release it as rapidly as possible.

The team has said the algorithm will be similar to the Ethash algorithm used by Ethereum and will not only secure the blockchain for fair mining, but will also maintain the security of the network.

One other consideration the team has to deal with is the mining platforms that sell hashing power. These platforms could make it possible for a single entity to purchase enough hashing power to successfully launch a 51% attack on the network. As long as Vertcoin is able to keep its fair mining standard this type of activity will be blocked.

Even though remaining ASIC free and maintaining a fair mining environment is one of the goals of Vertcoin, it doesn’t mean the project will be successful. However, it does almost guarantee that the project will continue to live on with at least a small, but dedicated community of miners and users.

Vertcoin’s 1-Click MinerIn order to make mining as simple for users as possible Vertcoin has developed and released their own 1-click mining software. It has to be the easiest mining software for any cryptocurrency.

You can download the 1-Click miner from the Vertcoin website, but unfortunately, it is only available for Windows. In addition to the 1-Click miner, you’ll also need a wallet capable of storing Vertcoin and a Vertcoin mining pool.

Aside from letting the software know which mining pool to use and what wallet address to send rewards to you also specify either CPU or GPU mining. Once you have those three things in place you can simply run the miner and collect your VTC.

Merged Mining with VertcoinVertcoin has enabled merged mining, allowing users to mine more than one coin at a time, but currently, there aren’t many other coins that can be merge mined with Vertcoin. Unitus (UIS) has been available to be merge mined since the beginning, and according to the information at Give Me Coins you can also merge mine Monocle and Parallaxcoin through them.

The Vertcoin TeamVertcoin has historically been little more than a loose group of volunteer developers, and that’s still true in 2019. That will likely change in the near future as there has been an application filed with the IRS in March 2019 to create the Vertcoin Foundation.

This will help the project take advantage of tax-exempt status, and will give the project the legal framework necessary to file for trademarks and copyrights.

Many of the developers working on Vertcoin over the years have come from MIT since the coin and the project has close ties with the school. In fact, some of the work done with Vertcoin comes from other MIT projects, which allows for some free development for Vertcoin.

The downside to working solely with volunteer developers has been a negative impact on Vertcoin when developers have inevitably left for better-paying work over the years.

Once the Vertcoin Foundation has been created it will be able to offer salaries to the lead developers, giving the project a more consistent development atmosphere and maintaining top talent.

One of the most effective ways in order to increase adoption for a cryptocurrency is through an active and engaged community. To that end, Vertcoin prides itself on its community.

Firstly, they have their official Discord channel. They have over 9,400 members in the channel. I jumped into it to get a sense of the discussion and it was encouraging to see that many of the members.

Vertcoin Discord Channels with Community Chat

On the social media front, the Vertcoin Twitter has over 62k followers. They regularly keep their community up to date over here and they get a great deal of engagement from their followers.

There are also two subreddits on Reddit for the Vertcoin community. The official one has over 33k users. Then you have the vertcoin mining subreddit and this has 3.8k members. Both of these are pretty active with regular discussion.

Finally, Vertcoin has an official Medium blog that is relatively active. Every month they will share the latest updates on every aspect of the project - well worth following.

The VTC TokenWhen Vertcoin launched in 2014 the token was trading at $0.07, but by the second day, it had nearly tripled to $0.20. It continued climbing and in just two weeks the price skyrocketed as investor demand for the coin reached a fever pitch. It hit $10.12 on February 5, 2014.

That spike was short-lived and just a week later price had gone back to $3.47. It continued declining and by September 2014 it was back at $0.07 for a loss of 99.25% from its high.

From there VTC declined even further, and by May 2015 it was at its all-time low of $0.005343. That was on May 6, 2015. By May 28 the price of VTC was nearly back to $0.20 and after a couple of weeks, it had nearly tripled again to almost $0.60 each. Price declined from there and was around $0.02 as 2016 began.

It remained in the range of $0.02 to $0.06 throughout 2016 and into 2017.

VTC's rocky price history. Image via CMC

A new rally began in April 2017, with levels reaching above $1 by June. Price pulled back and shot higher at the end of 2017 along with the broader cryptocurrency markets, reaching an all-time high of $10.53 on December 6, 2017.

2018 was a bad year for Vertcoin as it declined steadily alongside the rest of the cryptocurrency market during the bear market that lasted until 2019. As of mid-June 2019 price was above $0.60, but by late June 2019, the price pulled back to $0.52, showing that volatility remains high in this coin.

Buying & Storing VTCThose who believe now is a good time to load up on some VTC can head over to CoinEgg, Bittrex, Upbit or Poloniex to buy. It is also listed on a few other exchanges but there is almost no trading volume on these exchanges.

When it comes to VTC trading volumes in general, they are quite thin on each of the individual exchanges. This could present an issue from a liquidity perspective. If you were looking to buy / sell large block orders of VTC then you may run into some slippage on the orders - so trade carefully.

Once you have your VTC, best practices would have you taking it off the exchange and storing it in an offline wallet. We are all too aware of the risks that come from the some of the largest exchange hacks.

Perhaps the safest place to store your VTC would be on a hardware device such as a Ledger Nano. This will keep your keys in a secure offline environment and interact with the Ledger PC client through a USB cable.

If you don't have a ledger then you can always use Vertcoin's Electrum Wallet. This is forked from the original Electrum wallet and is quite intuitive and easy to use. It is also a light wallet so it means that you can connect to remote nodes and don't have to download the entire blockchain.

Finally, if you are looking for a third-party wallet with mobile support then the Coinomi wallet could be ideal. This is also a multi-currency wallet that supports numerous other cryptocurrencies - over 500 to be exact!

Vertcoin DevelopmentSomething that I always like to do in order to determine how much work is been done on a project is to take a look at their public code commits.

For an open source project like Vertcoin, it really is "the proof is in the pudding".

Hence, I decided to dive into the Vertcoin GitHub and take a look at their three most active pinned repositories. Below is the commit activity in these repos.

Number of commits in select repos over past 12 months

As you can see in the above, the developers are still busy pushing code to their repositories. Of course, this is much less than we see on some of the newer projects.

For example, if we were to take a look at the ranking of Vertcoin as based on the number of code commits, they come in at number 383 on Cryptomiso.

Having said that, Vertcoin is a more established protocol and was built off the Bitcoin core. This means that they did not have to build a protocol from scratch. This is also the reason why some of the newer projects like Insolar have so many commits.

Finally, Vertcoin is mostly community driven and the developers are not paid for their contributions. This is unlike many of the other projects that may have held an ICO or a pre-mine where the developers pocketed it.

ConclusionIn 2014 the International Business Times wrote an article praising Vertcoin and calling it a superior alternative to Bitcoin because of its fair mining policy. It also claimed that Vertcoin could be one of the altcoins to make its way to mainstream adoption.

That hasn’t happened yet, and as of June 2019, Vertcoin is ranked in the 188th spot based on its market cap. That certainly isn’t mainstream, but no other cryptocurrency has made it to mainstream adoption levels yet either, so there’s still hope.

Continued development and a dedicated community will keep it in the running, and if fair mining becomes one of the most important factors of a useful cryptocurrency Vertcoin will quickly jump into the top positions.

Considering its early start we can say that it’s impressive to see Vertcoin hanging on for six-and-a-half years already. It kept chugging along during the ICO and airdrop mania of late 2017, survived the bear market of 2018 and has come out stronger than ever.

And even though it had to fork three times over the years, it remains one of the few ASIC resistance coins, thanks to the commitment of the development team. That alone should ensure the survival of Vertcoin, and ensure it maintains a strong mining community.

While the mainstream prospects for Vertcoin may not look great right now, its consistent and steady growth could eventually leave it as one of the remaining cryptocurrency after most other disappear into the mists of history.

Is the ASIC Resistance dream closer to reality, despite claims of it being a myth?

Original source text
“Today we know that centralization and big bureaucracies have not, as promised, been the answer for promoting better opportunities for society” ~ Carlos Salinas de Gortari

To ASIC or not to ASIC has been the dilemma for years now. For some, the distinction is very easy; it comes down to choosing between centralization and decentralization. For others, it is about taking all the aspects of mining into consideration and opting for what’s best suitable for the end participants and the network altogether. With ASICs in the scene, one side of the coin depicts decentralization, the other side portrays centralization. A coin that’s puzzling not only to the ones in the cryptocurrency space, but also to the ones outside.

While there are many projects that completely oppose even the idea of ASIC mining, there is an equal number of projects or even more that have warmly embraced the new idea. And, why not? Decentralization means an open-market, which in turn symbolizes technological advancement.

Skating on thin ice On one hand, the argument that’s pro-ASIC is that “it contributes to the network security,” which is debatable. On the other hand, the argument that it leads to centralization of the network is something that’s hard to be brushed off. The security threats of ASIC mining centralization include ASIC boost, selfish mining, eclipse attacks, and launching a 51 percent attack without having 51 percent hash power (just by collaborating with three or four other mining pools). The problems of ASIC mining have taken a prominent seat in the crypto-market.

However, this is not the only factor that bothers miners and participants. There is only a portion of the community that can afford ASIC miners and the ones who can also have their table full with the question of whether or not their ASIC miners will be profitable by the time it ships.

The largest cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, is among those cryptocurrencies that have been pro-ASIC mining, and it is because of this very cryptocurrency that ASIC mining has gained a strong foothold in this space. The mining evolution from CPU to GPU to FPGA to ASIC completely superseded Satoshi Nakamoto’s “one CPU, one vote” rule.

Speaking to AMBCrypto, Bob Summerwill from ETC Cooperative said,

“If you see what’s been happening with every single cryptocurrency has ASICs, even the ones that claim to be ASIC resistant. And the reason is very simple, it just you can do it more efficiently. You are just doing a fairly simple algorithm and doing that in hardware is going to more efficient than doing it in software. There’s no going around that and the economic is such that you just cannot resist. It’s just futile to try and resist. The ASICs are going to happen anyway and they are actually good for you. So, resisting is futile and actually counter productive.”

While Bitcoin itself is relatively safe from the biggest problems of ASIC mining and centralization – 51 percent attack, the same, however, does not hold true for other cryptocurrencies. The reason is quite simple; the cost of BTC mining and the price is higher compared to the rest of p-o-w coins. In short, it’s possible, but it’s not quite feasible for the attacker considering there would also be a war against the rest 49 percent, and even if one percent hash rate is lost to the other side, it would mean game-over. Meaning, there’s zero economic incentive for launching a 51% attack on Bitcoin.

The Hash War A classic example of the blunders that can be caused by mining pools powered by ASICs is the Bitcoin Cash vs Bitcoin Satoshi Vision hash war that took place towards the end of 2018. Some market speculators even claimed that the hash war resulted in not only two different chains, but also the crash of Bitcoin’s price and hash rate towards the end of last year.

This was not the first time Bitcoin Cash got dragged into a mining war, nor was it the last time that BCH made headlines concerning matters related to mining. The cryptocurrency was itself a result of a fork war that took place in 2017 over the bigger block size argument. The latest on the shelf was this year’s report on re-org, carried out by BTC.com and BTC.top, with both pools joining hands to reverse blocks of transactions in order to cease an unknown miner from gaining access to coins, an exploit taking advantage of after May 15 hard fork.

Such instances show how the most important pillar of any cryptocurrency in the market, decentralization, can be undermined.

An achievable goal? While many are of the opinion that ASIC-resistance is futile, there are still projects that stand firm against ASIC-mining, keeping decentralization as the most important goal, even though there hasn’t been any substantial proof that this is an achievable goal.

Ethereum and Monero were the two coins that held the beacon of ASIC Resistance; Ethereum with back-and-forth discussion over implementing ProgPoW, and Monero with RandomX.

The Valladolid Debate

While ‘To ASIC or not to ASIC’ is a dilemma that the entire ecosystem faces, ‘to ProgPoW or not to ProgPoW’ is the question the Ethereum community is struggling with.

The reason to implement ProgPoW is simple, ASIC resistance, which even had a greenlight from the auditors. There are several reasons against it: debates of GPU miners buy-outs, Proof-of-Stake shift, and problems with the teams that proposed the algorithm.

Bob Summerwill said,

“When Ethereum was started it was like we don’t want ASICs, we don’t want to be like Bitcoin, we don’t want our mining to be dominated by a few of these Chinese companies. So, we are going to do something which is memory hard and runs on GPUs and not specialist hardware. It’s a different time now and I think what we’ve ended up inheriting there is not something that really makes sense anymore. The ASIC resistance is a myth. You can’t resist it.”

How does ProgPoW aim to answer the ASIC question? ProgPoW would have five key elements to its algorithm: change from Keccack_f1600 to Keccack_f800 [shift from 64-bit words to 32-bit words], the random sequence generated would change every 50 blocks, the DRAM would increase to 256 bytes from 128 bytes, adds reads from a small, and low-latency cache that supports random addresses.

ProgPoW would not eliminate the threat of ASIC mining. It would merely make it minimal by giving GPU miners a boost. The GitHub post reads,

“The design goal of ProgPoW is to have the algorithm’s requirements match what is available on commodity GPUs. If the algorithm were to be implemented on custom ASIC there should be little efficiency gains compared to a commodity GPU.”

The algorithm was supposed to make a debut this year with the Istanbul hard fork, but was postponed to the next one due to audit delays. Sailing through these troublesome factors, it is still unclear whether ProgPoW would ever make it to the Mainnet.

The ‘I have a dream’ of Monero

When Bitmain announced an Antminer designed for Cryptonight-based cryptocurrencies, it left the entire Monero community in a state of shock. If there was one thing that this community was sure of, it was that ASIC miners were a no-no.

The immediate response was to tweak the network algorithm on a constant basis, in this case – every six months. While the strategy did come at a cost – compromising the security of the network, it did work. In the ASIC-manufacturers‘ perspective, it would be pointless in terms of cost and effort to build an ASIC only to see the cryptocurrency change its algorithm to a different one.

Interestingly, the tweak in the mining algorithm brought an end to the popular crypto-jacking service, Coinhive, on 8 March 2019. The official announcement on the discontinuation of the service, stated,

“The drop in hash rate (over 51%) after the last Monero harh fork hit us hard. So did the ‘crash’ of crypto currency market with the value of XMR depreciating over 85% within a year. This and the announced hard fork and algorithm update of Monero network on March 9 has lead us to the conclusion that we need to discontinue Coinhive.”

The Monero community upped the ante with RandomX. The algorithm will be using all components of the core but not all of the chips, including the memory interface of the uncore; a difficult aspect to achieve for ASICs as it only focuses on one element in mining. The algorithm was changed from CryptonightR to RandomX at the end of November 2019. Its maiden voyage has been on easy waters so far. “Test fast, fail fast, adjust fast” has been Monero’s mantra so far.

Hit-and-miss

In December 2019, Vertcoin [VTC], ranked 306 on CoinMarketCap, recorded a 51 percent attack. Interestingly, the cryptocurrency has always been at arms against ASIC mining and had opted for Lyra2REv3 proof-of-work algorithm. Notably, this was not the first time the coin succumbed to the attack as the network faced a 51% attack in December 2018 too. A GitHub post on the attack stated,

“On Sunday, 1 December 2019 15:19:47 GMT 603 blocks were removed from the VTC main chain and replaced by 553 attacker blocks. We note that 600 blocks is the current confirmation requirement for VTC on Bittrex. There were 5 double-spent outputs in which ~ 125 VTC (~$29) was redirected. Each of the double-spent outputs are coinbase outputs owned by the attacker and it is unknown to whom the coins were originally sent before being swept to an attacker address after the reorg.”

Decentralized ASIC mining?

While the topic of ASIC centralization continues to be hot debate every now and then, Blockstream, a blockchain technology company, unveiled its mining colocation service and Blockstream Pool, earlier this year. In an episode of Magical Crypto Friends, CSO of Blockstream, Samson Mow, said that the pool would be contributing to Bitcoin’s mining decentralization as it utilizes BetterHash protocol. Mow had stated,

“So, you can run your own node at home, you can host your miners in a facility or you could have your own miners in your facility and then run BetterHash node that would connect to our pool and then it’s just more decentralized overall […]”

After all that’s said and done, the question here is not if ASIC resistance or mining is the way, but is Decentralization truly achievable?

Decentralization in mining is always going to be something that’s going to be hard to achieve as mining would always centralize in a place where electricity is cheap, farms with either CPUs or GPUs or ASICs are always going to exist.

“Maybe wars aren’t meant to be won, maybe they’re meant to be continuous.”

Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, June 24th, 2026, Chainwire

Fintech developer Virell Trade has officially announced the launch of Stabliq Wallet, a secure, non-custodial cryptocurrency wallet engineered specifically for the management of stablecoins across the Ethereum and TRON networks. Designed to enhance digital asset security and accessibility, the application provides comprehensive storage, transfer, and exchange capabilities for major stablecoins, including USDT and USDC.

To mitigate the complexities typically associated with decentralized finance (DeFi), Stabliq Wallet introduces a specialized architectural design that appeals to both institutional digital asset managers and retail users entering the Web3 ecosystem.

Key Infrastructure and Technical Features Include:

Gasless Ethereum Token Swaps: The wallet features native in-app token exchange capabilities on the Ethereum network, incorporating advanced transaction routing that eliminates the standard requirement for users to hold native Ether (ETH) to cover network gas fees. Non-Custodial Security Framework: Built on a strict zero-trust, non-custodial architecture, the platform ensures users retain exclusive ownership of their private keys. Local security protocols are reinforced by biometrics (Face ID), password protection, and standardized seed phrase recovery mechanisms. Multi-Account and Multi-Network Integration: Users can manage multiple distinct accounts, import existing wallets via standard seed phrases, and track cross-network digital assets seamlessly within a unified interface. Operational Workflow Optimization: The application streamlines daily transactions through an integrated address book, comprehensive transaction historical ledgers, custom token import support, and quick-response (QR) code transfer protocols. By focusing on the dual infrastructure of Ethereum and TRON — the two largest networks for stablecoin volume — Stabliq Wallet directly addresses the market’s demand for high-throughput, secure, and cost-effective digital asset management.

“Stabliq Wallet uses a non-custodial architecture, meaning users have full control over their private keys. Security features include Face ID, password protection, and seed phrase backup”, said the company.

Tuesday’s Cascade Shows Why AI Is Not Crypto’s Real Problem As DeFi Drains Pile Up

CoinGecko News

Three DeFi protocols across NEAR, Base, and Sui were drained on Tuesday. One of them, a $3.46 million Sweat Economy incident, later turned out to be a foundation rescue.

Bloomberg analyst James Seyffart used the cascade to needle Crypto Twitter’s AI-versus-crypto debate. He suggested the bigger threat to digital assets is the same one as always.

Tuesday’s Drain CascadeBlockaid raised the alarm at around 1.36 p.m. UTC. Roughly 13.71 billion Sweat Economy (SWEAT) tokens, about 65% of total supply, moved through an attacker address.

🚨Community Alert: Ongoing exploit on @SweatEconomy on @NEARProtocol.

— Blockaid (@blockaid_) April 29, 2026 On-chain analysts including former NEAR core contributor Zacodil traced the activity to an April 27 contract redeploy. The redeploy added refund_first and refund_second methods.

A single refund_second call returned 13.63 billion SWEAT, worth about $2.63 million, to 53 addresses.

Hours earlier, the Syndicate Commons bridge on Base lost 18.5 million SYND tokens worth $330,000 to $400,000. The proceeds were bridged to Ethereum.

We are investigating unusual movements in SYND tokens that may indicate a possible security issue.

We recommend avoiding provisioning any liquidity until this is resolved.

— Syndicate (@syndicateio) April 29, 2026 On Sui, Aftermath Finance paused its perpetuals protocol after losing roughly $1.14 million USDC.

Total damage is 1.14m.

We are now focused on recovery.

— Aftermath Finance (🥚, 🥚) (@AftermathFi) April 29, 2026 Seyffart Pushes Back on the AI vs Crypto FrameCrypto Twitter has spent April arguing that AI will end crypto. AI agents and AI infrastructure are absorbing the venture capital that altcoins once drew.

Attention has rotated to AI projects, leaving alts without a narrative driver. And on-chain AI agents will eventually make human-led crypto projects redundant, the more aggressive version of the thesis goes.

People are asking — Is AI the end of crypto? quipped James Seyffart, an ETF analyst at Bloomberg.

The implied point is that crypto’s chronic problem is not external competition. The same protocol-level vulnerabilities that drained SYND, USDC, and SWEAT in one afternoon are arguably the bigger threat.

Sweat Economy operates the move-to-earn ecosystem behind Sweatcoin, competing with STEPN. The token price held steady through the episode.

Sweat Economy’s X account stayed silent all day, and the team has not yet explained what vulnerability prompted the redeploy.

Extreme Fear Returns As Crypto Prices Collapse
BNB BNB BTC Bitcoin DOGE Dogecoin ETH Ethereum SOL Solana XRP Ripple
CoinGecko News
Original source text
Wed 24 Jun 2026 ▪ 6 min read ▪ by Luc Jose A.

Summarize this article with:

The crypto market has just experienced one of the most violent shocks of the year, illustrating once again the fragility of positions heavily linked to leverage effects in the face of macroeconomic uncertainties and technological disruptions. In just a few hours, more than 100 billion dollars of global market capitalization disappeared. This massive purge occurs in a context of global technological rout and regulatory tightening and plunged the Crypto Market Fear & Greed index into an “extreme fear” zone, with a score of 23.

In brief The crypto market suffered a brutal correction, with more than 100 billion dollars wiped out in a few hours and a marked return of fear across the sector. A wave of liquidations exceeding 720 million dollars hit traders using leverage, causing the capitulation of thousands of investors and a widespread drop in major digital assets. Bitcoin, Ethereum and leading altcoins recorded sharp declines, while spot crypto ETFs suffered significant capital outflows, increasing selling pressure. New American initiatives in favor of quantum computing revive concerns about the future ‘Q-Day’, a scenario in which quantum computers could challenge the security of current cryptographic systems. The capitulation of crypto assets The first act of this crisis is characterized by liquidation metrics of a magnitude rarely seen in recent months, which explains the shift of the crypto market into extreme fear. According to market data, more than 720 million dollars of positions were wiped out in 24 hours across all main assets: bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana, Dogecoin… Nearly 145,000 traders fell victim to this wave of forced selling.

The losses mostly hit buyers using leverage: 610 million dollars of long positions liquidated, versus 110 million dollars for short positions. As proof of the violence of the bearish wick, 182 million dollars of buying positions were erased in just one hour. The Hyperliquid platform also recorded the biggest individual liquidation on the ETHUSD contract, valued at 15.34 million dollars. On the network, on-chain analyst Axel Adler Jr. has summarized the situation : “weak hands capitulate while strong hands did not even flinch”.

Here is the factual breakdown of losses recorded in the Spot market :

Bitcoin (BTC) : the price heavily stumbled to reach an intraday low of 61,893 dollars, breaking its critical 200-week moving average (200-WMA) at 62,000 dollars, generating 216 million dollars of liquidations alone ;  Ethereum (ETH) : the market’s second crypto plunged below the 1,650 dollar mark to hit a floor at 1,639 dollars ;  Major altcoins : XRP fell more than 3 % to 1.10 dollars, while other assets like BNB, Solana, Cardano or Dogecoin recorded corrections ranging from 3 to 7 % ;  Institutional flows : Bitcoin and Ethereum spot ETFs experienced significant net capital outflows, with BlackRock’s IBIT ETF alone seeing 170 million dollars of redemptions. Faced with this massive unwind of positions, analyst Ted Pillows warned about the need to preserve the technical support zone between 61,000 and 62,000 dollars, predicting that a “cluster drop around the 61,200 dollar level” might occur before any hope of a rebound.

Macro-economic contagion and global monetary tightening Beyond the technical crisis, this collapse finds its deep causes in a combination of macroeconomic factors and major political decisions. Traditional financial markets have effected a strong contagion. The Korean KOSPI index experienced a historic collapse of nearly 10%, its third largest drop ever, while the Nasdaq 100 lost 2.60% in pre-opening.

This global risk aversion is explained by the rise to 4.5% of the 10-year US Treasury bond yield and the strength of the dollar index (DXY), which reached 101.17, its highest level since May last year. Investors, worried about peace talks between the United States and Iran and fearing future interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve, eagerly await the PCE inflation figures. The diagnosis for the analysis entity Bit Official is clear: “the weakness of both markets can therefore be explained by the Fed being less accommodative since October 2025, with the AI narrative offering only a practical explanation for the correction”.

The specter of the “Q-Day” and the threat of quantum computing A fundamental event has shaken investors’ long-term confidence: US President Donald Trump signed executive orders aimed at massively boosting quantum computing to ensure national security. The White House officially announced its intention to “relaunch a national innovation effort in quantum technologies, to preserve national security and stimulate American growth in a key industry sector”. This direction places the crypto industry against a critical countdown: 2030, the date by which the US government has imposed the migration of its own critical systems to post-quantum standards.

Experts fear the advent of a “Q-Day” by 2030, the apocalyptic scenario in which quantum computers would be able to break current standard encryptions. This fear is all the stronger as Google has issued a major warning, highlighting that large-scale quantum machines would be able to break standard cryptography by 2029. Thus, some networks like Solana or XRP already plan to integrate quantum upgrades in their roadmaps for 2028, but a study indicates that nearly 7 million bitcoins could be threatened if the flagship crypto does not update its cryptographic signatures in time.

This triple constraint, monetary on one side, technological and political on the other, sketches a complex outlook and invites nuanced analysis. In the short term, the market’s ability to absorb liquidations will depend heavily on this week’s US economic indicators, which will guide Fed policy. Ultimately, the blockchain industry is forced to accelerate its transition to a post-quantum architecture to preserve its promise of inviolability. This crash, while temporarily eliminating excess speculation and the leverage of “weak hands”, forces developers and institutions to look beyond price charts to meet an inevitable industrial and security challenge.

TRON records 3.93M active addresses in a single day, surpassing BNB Chain, Solana, and Ethereum
BNB BNB ETH Ethereum SOL Solana TRX Tron
CoinGecko News
Original source text
TRON hit 3.93 million active addresses on June 23, according to data from Lookonchain and DefiLlama. That single-day figure put the network ahead of BNB Chain, Solana, and Ethereum, the three blockchains most commonly cited as its competitors for daily user activity.

What the numbers actually show The 3.93 million figure represents unique addresses that initiated or received transactions within a 24-hour window. TRON averaged 3.2 million daily active users during Q1 2026, a figure that already placed it second only to Solana among major blockchains. So hitting 3.93 million represents roughly a 23% jump above that quarterly average.

The network’s total account count tells an even broader story. As of mid-June 2026, TRON surpassed 389 million total accounts, according to TRONSCAN. The network has also processed a cumulative 14.5 billion transactions since launch.

Why TRON keeps winning the activity game TRON’s secret weapon has never been flashy DeFi protocols or blue-chip NFT collections. It’s stablecoins. Specifically, cheap stablecoin transfers. The network has carved out a massive niche as the preferred rail for USDT transfers, particularly in emerging markets where users prioritize low fees over ecosystem prestige.

The sustainability question Analysts observing the spike have noted that it appears to be a temporary phenomenon rather than evidence of a fundamental shift in network usage patterns. Averaging 3.2 million daily active users across an entire quarter is sustained engagement at a scale that most blockchain networks would love to achieve even once.

TRON transitioned to a community-governed DAO structure back in December 2021, and the network has continued to grow its user base steadily in the years since.

What this means for investors High usage doesn’t automatically translate to token price appreciation. TRON’s dominance in stablecoin transfers means much of the value flowing through the network accrues to stablecoin issuers like Tether, not necessarily to TRX holders.

Investors watching TRON should focus less on single-day records and more on whether the Q2 2026 daily active average exceeds Q1’s 3.2 million figure. That would signal genuine growth rather than statistical noise.

Crypto Market Today, June 24: Bitcoin Holds $62,491 as CLARITY Act Odds Hit 48% and XRP Breaks Below $1.09
BNB BNB BTC Bitcoin ETH Ethereum XRP Ripple
CoinGecko News
Original source text
Table of contents

The crypto market is in cautious consolidation on June 24, 2026, with a clear split emerging between assets sensitive to the CLARITY Act and those driven by protocol-level catalysts. Bitcoin is holding at $62,491, up 0.49% — recovering from yesterday’s $62,000 intraday low after $700 million in liquidations. Ethereum is at $1,664, up 0.99%, staying green for the sixth consecutive day ahead of tomorrow’s BitMine Russell 1000 inclusion. XRP is the standout laggard — down 1.4% to $1.08 after a sharp afternoon selloff triggered by CLARITY Act passage odds collapsing to 48% on Polymarket. Solana holds $69.09 (+0.65%) and BNB recovers to $575 (+0.71%). The dominant theme today: the Russell 1000 catalyst lands tomorrow, the CLARITY Act is in crisis, and the market is pricing both simultaneously.

Key Takeaways Bitcoin at $62,491, up 0.49% — holding above $62,000 after yesterday’s liquidation dip Ethereum at $1,664, up 0.99% — sixth consecutive green day, BitMine Russell 1000 inclusion tomorrow XRP at $1.08, down 1.4% — sharp afternoon selloff as CLARITY Act odds drop to 48% on Polymarket Solana at $69.09, up 0.65% — pulling back from $74 highs but holding above $68 support BNB at $575.21, up 0.71% — steady recovery, cleanest chart in the top 5 BitMine Russell 1000 inclusion: tomorrow, June 26 — estimated $2.15B in forced passive fund buying CLARITY Act: Polymarket 48%, Galaxy Research “roughly even” — Senator Lummis warns: miss August = 2030 AssetPrice24hMarket CapVolume 24hBitcoin (BTC)$62,491+0.49%$1.25T$23.4BEthereum (ETH)$1,664+0.99%$200.84B$8.28BXRP$1.08-1.4%$67.36B$1.36BSolana (SOL)$69.09+0.65%$40.1B$1.87BBNB$575.21+0.71%$77.52B$920.38M Bitcoin: Defending $62,000 After Yesterday’s $700M Liquidation Shock Bitcoin is trading at $62,491 — a 0.49% gain — after the most violent session since the post-FOMC selloff. Yesterday’s intraday dip to ~$62,000 triggered more than $700 million in crypto liquidations across all assets. The 24-hour chart today shows the aftermath: BTC opened near $62,330, dipped twice toward $62,000 in the early hours, then recovered steadily to $62,500–$63,000, where it has consolidated through the afternoon.

The structure is defensive. Volume at $23.4 billion — down 25.62% — reflects reduced urgency after yesterday’s panic. Buyers absorbed the liquidation wave; the question now is whether they can push price back above the $63,500–$64,000 resistance zone that capped last week’s recovery.

The CLARITY Act deterioration is the primary headwind. With passage odds at 48%, the $15 billion ETF inflow scenario that underpinned Citi’s $143,000 year-end target is now a coin flip. Bitcoin’s price is not directly legislative — it has commodity classification regardless — but institutional sentiment is correlated with the broader regulatory environment that CLARITY Act passage would create.

Ethereum: Six Green Days, Russell 1000 Tomorrow Ethereum is the standout performer of the week. At $1,664, up 0.99%, ETH has now posted six consecutive green days — an outperformance streak that has no parallel among major assets this month. The 24-hour chart shows a constructive pattern: ETH opened near $1,649, dipped briefly to that level twice before recovering cleanly to $1,665–$1,675, consolidating near the top of the range through the afternoon.

The structural story is unchanged and intensifying. BitMine bought 52,203 ETH on June 22, bringing total holdings to 5.67 million ETH — 4.7% of all circulating supply, valued at $9.8 billion. Tomorrow’s Russell 1000 inclusion forces passive index funds tracking $4+ trillion in benchmarked assets to buy BMNR stock, with analysts estimating up to $2.15 billion in forced inflows.

Separately, the Ethereum Foundation confirmed a 40% spending cut — reducing the structural ETH sell pressure that has historically come from foundation treasury sales. Combined with the 32% staking ratio and BitMine’s accumulation, the liquid float in ETH is compressing.

Volume at $8.28 billion — down 33.38% — is lower than yesterday but the direction is clean. Low volume on a green day above key support ($1,649 held twice) is accumulation, not speculation.

XRP: CLARITY Act Odds Collapse Triggers Afternoon Selloff XRP is the worst performer in the top 5 today — down 1.4% to $1.08 — and the 24-hour chart explains exactly why. XRP held near $1.10–$1.11 for most of the session, then sold off sharply in the early afternoon to $1.08. The timing matches the CLARITY Act news flow: Galaxy Research moved passage odds to “roughly even” and Polymarket dropped to 48%, down from 74% a month ago.

XRP is the asset most directly exposed to CLARITY Act legislative risk. Passage permanently codifies XRP’s commodity classification into federal law — unlocking US bank custody and the pension fund/sovereign wealth fund capital that currently cannot hold XRP under agency-guidance-only classification. Standard Chartered and JPMorgan both project $4–8 billion in ETF inflows in a passage scenario. A slip to 2030 removes that catalyst entirely for this cycle.

The $1.08 level is now testing the lower bound of the June range. Critical support below is $1.05, then the psychological $1.00 floor. Exchange reserves remain at 7-year lows — 1.6 billion tokens, half the October 2025 peak — meaning the thin float amplifies any directional move in either direction.

Solana: Pulling Back from $74 Highs, Holding Key Support Solana is down from its $74 weekly high to $69.09, up 0.65% on the day. The 24-hour chart shows a choppy session: SOL opened near $68.92, tested $68.25 on two brief dips in early trading, then recovered steadily to $69.50–$70.00 before easing back to $69.09 into the afternoon.

The weekly picture remains the strongest of any top asset: SOL has gained approximately 8% over 7 days, outperforming BTC, ETH, XRP, and BNB. The pullback from $74 to $69 reflects normal profit-taking after a sharp weekly move rather than any structural reversal.

Key support is at $68 — the intraday floor that held today. The 50-day moving average at approximately $71.96 is the technical resistance that needs to be reclaimed for the weekly trend to extend further. Volume at $1.87 billion, down 26.36%, confirms the session is consolidative rather than directional.

BNB: Cleanest Chart in the Top 5 BNB is at $575.21, up 0.71% — the most consistent performer today on a risk-adjusted basis. The 24-hour chart shows BNB opened near $571.64, dipped briefly on the open, then trended steadily higher through $574, $576, $578, $580, before settling near $575–$576. No sharp dips, no liquidation spikes — just a clean grind higher throughout the session.

Market cap at $77.52 billion with volume of $920.38 million — the lowest Vol/Mkt Cap ratio (1.18%) in the snapshot, confirming this is low-volatility accumulation rather than speculative trading. Treasury holdings at 686,070 BNB. BNB’s stability today reflects Binance’s structural market share and BNB Chain’s continued fee and utility demand.

The Two Catalysts That Define This Week Russell 1000 inclusion — tomorrow, June 26. BitMine joins the Russell 1000 at market close. Passive index funds must buy BMNR proportionally. Analysts estimate $2.15 billion in forced buying. BitMine’s NAV is almost entirely ETH. Watch BMNR stock and ETH price correlation on inclusion day — a muted reaction suggests the market priced it in; a sharp move signals the $2.15B estimate was underweighted.

CLARITY Act — 48% odds, August deadline. The bill needs 60 Senate votes and a floor commitment before the August recess. Galaxy Research moved from 75% to roughly even. Polymarket at 48%. Senator Lummis: missing August = 2030. A Senate leadership statement committing to a floor vote would immediately reverse the odds. XRP is the asset most directly affected on both upside (passage) and downside (failure). BTC is indirectly affected through the institutional sentiment channel.

What to Watch This Week June 26: BitMine Russell 1000 inclusion — BMNR stock + ETH price on the day Senate calendar: Any floor vote commitment from leadership is the most important market event for XRP $62,000 BTC floor: Second consecutive day testing that level — a break below opens $61,620 and potentially $59,130 $1.00 XRP: The psychological floor that has held every 2026 pullback — now in range if CLARITY Act news deteriorates further

121 Crypto Hacks, Billions Evaporated: DeFi Faces Its Worst Year Since 2022
ARB Arbitrum BNB BNB ETH Ethereum HYPE Hyperliquid TRX Tron
CoinGecko News
Original source text
8h05 ▪ 5 min read ▪ by Ariela R.

Summarize this article with:

Decentralized finance is going through one of its worst phases since 2022. According to CryptoRank data, DeFi TVL has dropped by 39% since the beginning of the year. It went from 115 billion dollars in January to about 70 billion in June 2026. In six months, nearly 45 billion dollars of capital have thus left the DeFi ecosystem. This hemorrhage raises a fundamental question: is this a cyclical crypto correction or a deeper structural signal?

In brief According to CryptoRank, DeFi TVL has dropped 39.1% since January 2026. Ethereum remains the leading DeFi ecosystem with 38.9 billion dollars TVL. Among the top 10 crypto blockchains by TVL, only Tron and Hyperliquid recorded growth this year. 121 security incidents caused about 942 million dollars in losses. DeFi TVL in free fall since January 2026 According to onchain analyses published by CryptoRank on June 24, 2026, DeFi TVL has decreased each month since January. This uninterrupted monthly decline represents a cumulative loss of about 45 billion dollars in half a year. It is equivalent to the total capitalization of several major altcoins evaporated from the crypto sector.

This DeFi decline is primarily explained by the generalized crypto market correction. Bitcoin had reached an all-time high above $122,000 in October 2025, thus bringing the total market capitalization to 4.21 trillion dollars. Since then, the pullback has been sharp:

Total capitalization hovered around 2.15 trillion dollars at the end of June 2026, a nearly 50% contraction from the peak. Bitcoin has lost more than 28% since January 1, Ethereum 43%, and Solana more than 43%. This relationship is mechanical: a large part of DeFi TVL is denominated in native assets (ETH, SOL, BNB), whose dollar value has sharply declined. The contraction of DeFi TVL thus reflects both user flight and depreciation of assets locked in crypto protocols.

Crypto network Ethereum still dominates, Arbitrum in free fall The hierarchy of crypto blockchains by TVL remains dominated by Ethereum with 38.9 billion dollars. This alone represents more than half of the entire global DeFi TVL.

Among the top ten chains, Arbitrum records the largest proportional contraction: -55.3% at 1.3 billion dollars. This level brings Ethereum’s layer-2 back to its end-2022 capital.

BNB Chain (-22.7%) and Base (-5.2%) fare better, while Solana falls by 40.5% to 4.93 billion dollars. This level remains significant but is markedly down from the ambitions displayed in 2025.

Ranking of DeFi protocols according to their TVL (Source: CryptoRank) Tron and Hyperliquid, the two exceptions worth attention In this generally degraded picture, two crypto blockchains stand out as anomalies. Tron and Hyperliquid are indeed the only ones among the top ten by TVL to have recorded positive growth in 2026.

Tron shows a 5% increase, raising its TVL to 4.63 billion dollars. This resilience is explained more by its function than by a resurgence of speculative activity. Tron remains the crypto network of reference for settlement in USDT (Tether stablecoin). A large portion of its TVL is concentrated in staking, lending, and stablecoin transaction protocols.

Rising 6.7% to 1.52 billion dollars, Hyperliquid presents a more interesting profile from a usage perspective. Having become the leading onchain perpetual contracts market, the crypto protocol attracted regular flows throughout the year thanks to its expanding HyperEVM ecosystem (lending, liquid staking, and DeFi primitives). According to Fortune, it even appears in the Crypto 100 ranking.

121 crypto hacks in 2026: the second factor in the DeFi debacle The crypto market correction is not the only cause of the decline of DeFi TVL. A wave of rare intensity hacks has significantly increased the pressure on the sector.

According to CryptoRank, 121 hacks have been recorded since the beginning of the year for total losses amounting to roughly 942 million dollars. Worse yet! Only the second quarter of 2026 concentrated 85 crypto incidents, representing about 775 million dollars stolen. This makes Q2 2026 the most active quarter ever recorded in terms of exploits.

The two most devastating attacks occurred in April, within a few days:

Drift Protocol suffered a breach estimated between 280 and 295 million dollars. KelpDAO was victim to a LayerZero cross-chain bridge vulnerability that cost it 293 million dollars. Alone, these two crypto attacks represent more than half of the sector’s annual losses.

One thing is certain: the DeFi market is undergoing a marked correction in 2026. The ability of crypto protocols to restore technical trust will be the main performance indicator to watch in the coming months.

BiKi.com Ignites Torch With Striking New Electroneum Partnership
BTC Bitcoin ETH Ethereum ETN Electroneum LTC Litecoin
CoinGecko News
Original source text
When someone reaches “rockstar status”, some would say they’ve officially “made it” once their music has syndicated across the mainstream and lyrics are known and recitable by a large majority of people globally. For a movie or television star, it would mean your face is recognized by the masses and your catchphrase is a part of popular culture. In the crypto and exchange space, the criteria for reaching that status is similar; become a household name within the crypto community. Currently, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin, and exchanges like Coinbase, Binance, and Kraken all come to mind. But just like musicians and actors make strategic moves that catapult themselves into stardom, so too do cryptocurrencies and crypto exchanges.

BiKi.com is a top-20 crypto exchange based out of Singapore. On February 18th, the exchange announced a partnership with Electroneum, as the cryptocurrency company expands its strategic global presence in Southeast Asia. Biki CEO, Ethan Ng said:

“ETN is a very internationally-established project, and we are very honoured they have chosen to list with us… as listing is just the beginning of our journey together, we look forward to growing with them, promoting their token brand name to our 2 million registered users, and launching a joint ETN giveaway campaign to celebrate this partnership.”

Outside of simply listing ETN, BiKi provides value via heightened marketing directly to their customers. This brand exposure enables greater awareness of Electronem’s mission and underlying technology; a huge win for that team. The top Asian digital asset exchange also includes in-app crypto news across various outlets. Further recognition is spread via BiKi’s 200,000+ WeChat user community. Further, the exchange also assembles a crypto project’s local community base from the ground up and assigns top-tier influences in the crypto space with 100K-1M+ followers across social media who actively trade cryptocurrency and serve as a given project’s designated community ambassador; stimulating interest and awareness where it is needed most.

Today, the ETN/USDT trading pair goes live for deposit on BiKi. Trading will officially open on February 25th at 18:00 GMT +8, and withdrawals the following day at noon GMT +8. As part of the go-live of the Electroneum listing on BiKi, 6 million ETN will be given away. For patrons depositing ETN immediately upon listing, they will be entered in a one-million ETN giveaway contest. For those who participate in trading of Electroneum, they will be entered into a five-million ETN giveaway.

Electroneum CEO, Richard Ells went on record saying he and his team are:

“very excited about listing on BiKi as it will increase the exposure of Electroneum to new users in Asia… BiKi is the fastest growing exchange in the world, and we are one of the fastest-growing cryptocurrencies… The team behind [BiKi] has an incredible pedigree, and they have taken it on a rocket ship trajectory of growth. We have seen a huge interest in Electroneum in Asia, and we are excited for ETN to be listed for trading on this innovative exchange.”

Electroneum officially launched in 2015 and since, has undergone many rounds of research and development to craft a real-world crypto ecosystem. ETN is the first cryptocurrency to comply with KYC/AML regulations, and the first to introduce a QR code-based instant payment system with a suite of e-commerce and API tools to enable integration. They are the first crypto to work directly with a major mobile network operator (MNO), and the first to partner with global non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to be validators on its proprietary blockchain. Electroneum aims to empower the unbanked, and be eco friendly. It is the largest ICO by participation, and is community-driven.

BiKi is a global crypto exchange that has been ranked amongst the top 20 according to CoinMarketCap (currently #9). The exchange provides traders more than 150 cryptocurrencies with over 280 trading pairs available. They focus on providing a safe, stable and effective cryptocurrency trading platform. 100% of BiKi’s transaction fees reused to buy back and burn BiKi’s native token; BIKI. Since open its doors in August of 2018, the exchange is seen as one of the fastest growing globally and received investments from Huobi, Genesis Capital, FBG Capital, ChainUP and many more with a total investment of over 10 million USD.

By Q4 2020, the Asian digital asset exchange plans to open it’s public financial blockchain, which CEO Ng says will be a central part of the future for financial institutions in the blockchain space. BiKi aims to continue adding value for its customers via providing more financial services and products that will cater to the ever-growing defi economy. This includes novel means to trade on the BiKi platform. They are also looking to get licensing as part of the Payment Services Act by Singapore’s Monetary Authority, which will allow them to become a diversified exchange with the potential of becoming the financial epicenter of the blockchain industry.

To put it into rockstar terms, BiKi and Electroneum are just playing their first gigs at the town pub on a weeknight. Or to put it into moviestar terms, they’ve just starred in their first off-broadway show. The two talented and innovative teams have entered a trajectory together as two of the fastest-growing crypto-basted projects in this space. Their commitment to support each other in their mission to enable adoption of cryptocurrency around the world and trigger a massive financial revolution has potential to enable global financial inclusion for all and make the two companies globally recognized household names.

DA Davidson Raises Micron’s Price Target to $2,000, Retains Buy Rating

U.S. investment bank DA Davidson released a research note stating that Micron Technology has entered a new phase with one of the best performance visibility in the semiconductor industry, a stark contrast to its past standing in the sector. Driven by another quarter of results that handily exceeded expectations and positive forward guidance, Micron’s stock price surged sharply. These signals indicate that the current memory chip boom cycle is far from over. While the company is ramping up capacity investments (with capital expenditure (CAPEX) projected to hit $10 billion in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, which will bring additional supply), management expects the memory market to remain tight on supply and demand at least through 2027. Against this backdrop, DA Davidson reiterated its "Buy" rating on Micron and raised its price target from $1,500 to $2,000, equivalent to a 20x price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio based on the company’s 2026 calendar year expected earnings per share (EPS).

Morgan Stanley raises Micron's price target to $1,200, maintains 'Overweight' rating.

Morgan Stanley released a report raising Micron Technology (MU.O)’s price target from $1,050 to $1,200, while maintaining an "Overweight" rating. The investment bank lifted its fiscal 2027 earnings per share (EPS) forecast for the chipmaker by roughly 40% to $168, and upgraded its free cash flow (FCF) projection from $104 billion to $140 billion. Aligning with Micron’s management, the bank holds that AI will push DRAM demand to consistently outpace supply significantly after 2027. Micron’s last fiscal quarter results matched this trend, with both its quarterly performance and outlook showing notable upside potential.

CBRS trades below IPO price post-earnings: Erases all gains six weeks after listing, two smart money firms net $5.8 million from first-day IPO shorts.

According to Hyperinsight monitoring, Cerebras (CBRS), the AI chip firm previously dubbed "Nvidia’s strongest challenger", saw its stock price fall in stages after reporting its first quarterly results since going public, as negative guidance overshadowed better-than-expected performance. The stock has dropped roughly 22% since the earnings release and officially broke below its IPO price today. On-chain whales are overall bearish. CBRS trades at $184 on the Hyperliquid platform, down 7.7% in 24 hours. Large-scale short positions (million-dollar level) total around $11.62 million, 2.39 times the long positions ($4.87 million). Two major short positions were placed precisely at high levels as early as the IPO day or even before the IPO: - Whale 0xe0ff: Shorted at $284.51 on May 14 with a 3x leveraged position of $6.13 million, generating an unrealized profit of $3.24 million (+104%); - Whale 0x9996: Shorted at $275.92 on May 11 with a 5x leveraged position of $5.48 million, generating an unrealized profit of $2.64 million (+162%). It is learned that both addresses currently hold short positions in both CBRS and SPCX, and have recorded substantial unrealized profits, preferring to place short positions at high levels before or on the day of major stock listings. With the realization of negative earnings news in this round, the combined unrealized profit of the two positions is around $5.88 million. Currently, the average entry price of CBRS short whales is around $275, and the current price is over 30% lower than that. The nearest short liquidation line is at $200.13, about 7% away from the current price.

BCH Drops 25% & ETH Continues Sliding While BlockDAG $0.03 Buyback Program Emerges as a Smart Crypto Play
BCH Bitcoin Cash ETH Ethereum
CoinGecko News
Original source text
The crypto market is facing a difficult period. Bitcoin Cash price has fallen by more than 25% over the past week, while Ethereum price today continues holding near a critical support area that could trigger deeper losses if it fails.

Heavy selling activity is weighing on both assets, and neither currently offers strong confidence to market participants. As uncertainty grows, many are increasingly asking the same question: what crypto to buy now?

BlockDAG (BDAG) presents a different approach. Through its active Legacy Sale, BDAG is available for only $0.00000044 per coin and is supported by a buyback program offering $0.03 per coin. Alongside this, the ecosystem continues expanding through its casino platform, growing miner deployment, and additional utility developments. During a volatile market, this structured setup is gaining significant attention.

Bitcoin Cash Price Continues to Raise Concerns Recent performance in the Bitcoin Cash price has been among its weakest in a long time. BCH lost approximately $82 during the past week and now trades near $223. This places it well below its major weekly moving averages, including the MA-20 at $447, MA-50 at $515, and even the MA-200 at $338.

Most major technical indicators continue showing weakness. RSI, Stochastic RSI, CCI, MACD, and the Awesome Oscillator all point toward downward momentum. While BCH currently sits in oversold territory, that alone does not guarantee an immediate recovery.

For the coming week, analysts expect Bitcoin Cash price to remain within a range of roughly $220 to $230. Even if prices move toward the upper end of that range, upside remains limited. Anyone asking what crypto to buy now may struggle to find a strong short-term argument for BCH. Large buyers have not yet returned, overhead resistance remains strong, and the broader structure still favors sellers.

Ethereum Price Today Faces a Critical Test Pressure continues building around Ethereum price today after the asset dropped 6.67% in the last 24 hours to approximately $1,654. Two major factors are driving the decline.

Institutional demand has weakened considerably. U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs have now recorded outflows for 17 consecutive sessions, with the latest withdrawal reaching $53 million. This marks the longest outflow streak since these products launched. At the same time, long-term buyers reduced accumulation activity by nearly 80% within just two days.

Another major factor came from liquidations. Nearly $400 million worth of leveraged ETH long positions were wiped out over a 24-hour period, creating additional selling pressure and accelerating the decline.

The RSI currently sits near 12.17, showing deeply oversold conditions. If ETH successfully holds above $1,714, a recovery toward $1,893 remains possible. However, a breakdown could push the asset toward $1,550. For those wondering what crypto to buy now, Ethereum may require patience before stronger signals emerge.

BlockDAG’s Buyback Structure Creates a Different Opportunity While much of the crypto market continues struggling, the question of what crypto to buy now becomes less about avoiding losses and more about finding a clearly defined opportunity. This is where BlockDAG is drawing significant attention. Its Legacy Sale and buyback structure are creating a setup that differs greatly from many other projects currently available.

The Legacy Sale is now active with BDAG priced at only $0.00000044 per coin. Eligible participants can register their holdings through the dashboard and access the buyback program, which offers $0.03 per BDAG.

Current participants can register directly through the dashboard for the buyback program. Legacy Sale users benefit from uncapped daily sell limits, while existing holders also have access through BDAG Swap at 30% below market value. Those existing holders can submit up to 250 million BDAG per wallet each day at $0.00025 per coin through the dedicated buyback route.

Beyond the buyback model, the ecosystem continues expanding. The casino platform is growing, mining activity continues increasing, and new integrations remain under development. For anyone seriously evaluating what crypto to buy now, many see this as a limited window before participation levels increase further.

Final Thoughts Both Bitcoin Cash price and Ethereum price today continue reflecting a market facing heavy pressure. Selling activity remains strong, recovery attempts remain uncertain, and confidence across major assets continues to be tested.

This environment explains why many people searching for what crypto to buy now are paying closer attention to BlockDAG. While BCH and ETH may require extended patience and could face additional downside, BlockDAG offers a structured model through its buyback program and Legacy Sale.

The ecosystem continues expanding through casino growth, miner deployment, and increasing participation. With the Legacy Sale available at $0.00000044, a buyback value of $0.03, and a separate $0.00025 route for existing holders, the opportunity is attracting significant attention. For those seeking clarity during uncertain market conditions, what crypto to buy now is increasingly becoming a question that leads many directly toward BlockDAG.

Hack VC-Backed Nillion to Shut Down Its Chain on Cosmos, Shift Focus to Ethereum
ATOM Cosmos ETH Ethereum
CoinGecko News
Original source text
The migration comes just months after Cosmos announced it’s stepping back from efforts to turn the Cosmos Hub into a smart contract platform as TVL declines.

NilChain, a privacy-focused blockchain built with the Cosmos SDK by Nillion, is winding down operations on Cosmos as part of broader shifts across the interoperability-focused ecosystem.

In an X announcement on Feb. 17, the team said the network will halt operations on March 23, urging holders of the NIL token to migrate their assets to Ethereum before the shutdown.

NilChain was designed as a network for secure computation. But the chain has seemingly not been able to reach broad usage inside the Cosmos ecosystem.

Leaving Cosmos, however, doesn’t mark an end to Nillion itself, as the company plans to continue operating on Ethereum. Amid the news, nilChain’s native token NIL briefly jumped over 10% on the day to $0.06 and is currently trading around $0.053, per data from CoinGecko.

It remains unclear why the team decided to migrate away from Cosmos. The Nillion team declined to comment on the record by press time.

NilChain may not be widely known compared with larger Layer 1 or Layer 2 networks, but Nillion has raised sizable funding. In December 2022, the company closed a roughly $20 million seed round led by Distributed Global, with participation from GSR Markets and HashKey.

It raised another $25 million in October 2024 in a round led by Hack VC, with backing from the Arbitrum Foundation, Worldcoin, Sei, HashKey Capital, and Animoca Brands.

Exodus from CosmosThe move comes as Cosmos itself reassesses its direction. In July 2025, the Cosmos Hub scrapped plans to add native smart contract support, citing high costs and weak developer demand. Teams that had planned to deploy applications on the Hub were encouraged to build on other Cosmos-based chains instead.

That shift forced a reset for many teams and coincided with a wave of departures. Since mid-2025, several projects have announced exits or wind-downs across the Cosmos ecosystem.

The stablecoin-focused project Noble said earlier in January of this year it would leave Cosmos to launch its own EVM-compatible L1, saying the team wants to “meet users and developers where they already are.” Others have taken different paths with chains like Pryzm and Quasar announcing shutdowns or significant changes.

Some have publicly said they are leaving Cosmos after years of struggling with liquidity, user distribution, and developer traction following the collapse of Terra in 2022. Others, including infrastructure providers, argue the ecosystem still makes sense for teams focused on interoperability rather than consumer DeFi.

TVL, app revenue and fees on Cosmos Hub. Source: DefiLlamaThe Cosmos Hub itself has also seen declining activity. Data from DefiLlama shows total value locked on the network falling from about $2.65 million to roughly $131,000 earlier this month, the lowest level on record.

Network fees have also dropped sharply. By January, fees reached an all-time low of around $218,000, with only four of the 11 protocols deployed on the Cosmos Hub generating any revenue.

ATOM, the native token of Cosmos Hub, is down about 4% over the past 24 hours, though it rallied over 18% in the past week, per CoinGecko.

Why Altcoins Are Rising: Maker, Holochain, BNB And Chainlink News
BTC Bitcoin DASH Dash ETH Ethereum FNSA FINSCHIA HOT Holo MKR Maker XMR Monero ZEC Zcash
CoinGecko News
Original source text
Altcoins are back in style. As the price for one bitcoin has increased to trade around the $8,450 level, several top altcoins are posting double-digit gains against a generally-green backdrop, while Ethereum is on a roll – gaining almost 6% over the last 24 hours.

BNB, Maker, Holo and Chainlink are benefiting the most, posting gains of 8%, 9%, 11% and 14% respectively. But privacy and not-so-much privacy coins are seeing moderate losses, with Monero, Dash and Zcash performing at -0.6%, -1.8% and -1.1%.

While today’s woes may derive from coincidental market fluctuations, pressure from the FATF Travel Rule may cause investors to hold off from privacy coins for now.

What’s behind these impressive gains? BNB

… the sudden surge appears to be caused by a rumor that was later confirmed by CZ: Binance will start offering a fiat-to-crypto on-ramp in China through an integration with Alipay and WeChat. The news was falsely reported by numerous media outlets this morning as being a direct partnership.

Together these are the largest digital wallet providers in China, with adoption comparable to that of credit cards in the U.S. The news will have a profound effect on markets, in light of the ban of all native Chinese cryptocurrency exchanges in 2017, which left mainland traders scrambling to find ways of buying crypto.

Maker

…rise can be attributed to the announcement of a release date for Multi Collateral DAI. Due to Maker’s governance structure, the community will still need to vote for the proposal on November 15, with the CEO of Maker Foundation Rune Christensen urging all participants to do so. The first tokens to be evaluated for additional collateral will be ETH and BAT, with a full risk assessment provided to the Maker community for consideration.

Chainlink

…shows no signs of slowing down. After a variety of announcements that fueled its growth recently, the project delivered the final stroke: the Trusted Computation Framework, a collaboration with Intel, Hyperledger and Ethereum Enterprise Alliance.

The framework is designed to solve scalability issues affecting blockchains by moving computational and private data processing off-chain. Chainlink’s oracles will be providing the bridge between the two worlds, allowing the offloading of very resource-intensive operations without compromising on security. While the news was released two days ago, the daily sentiment for LINK remains ‘very high’ at 83%, according to data from thetie.io

Holochain

… the rise may be due to a preview of HoloPort, although it is largely an interface update. Sentiment is also neutral.

VanEck publishes investment case for Bitcoin VanEck, one of the two companies that submitted an ETF proposal due for deliberation this month, before subsequently withdrawing it from consideration, has published a comprehensive investment case for Bitcoin.

The report is prefaced with a definition of Bitcoin’s value. The company distinguishes between two different types of value for traded assets, categorizing stocks, real estate and commodities as ‘Intrinsic Value’ assets.

On the other hand gold, art, precious stones and bitcoin are categorized as having ‘Monetary Value,’ which arises from “Behavioral economics, heard behavior, etc.”

Based on these descriptions and other aspects of monetary theory, the report goes on to make a case that Bitcoin is a store of value and can be considered as digital gold.

Curiously, the report highlights some of the same concerns that the SEC has about Bitcoin ETFs; namely the lack of custodians, prime brokers, settlement entities and others, which are preventing significant institutional exposure.

Nevertheless, VanEck argues that increasing adoption figures, the upcoming halving, and increasing development momentum all make for a convincing reason to allocate a part of investor portfolios to Bitcoin.

Nathan Batchelor On Bitcoin Bitcoin has consolidated in a narrow range over the last twenty-four hours, with bulls maintaining the BTC/USD pair above the $8,000 support level. It is worth reiterating that the SEC is deciding on the Bitwise Bitcoin ETF this week, so trading volumes could remain light up until the decision.

TradingView.com In the near-term, the Choppiness Indicator and the Balance of Power Indicator show that short-term BTC/USD buyers are still in control of the cryptocurrency.

The four-hour time frame shows that Choppiness Index is still pointing to further upside. Interestingly, the Choppiness Index has also reached its most overbought reading since October 2018 on the daily time frame.

A higher reading indicates that the medium-term bearish trend is very weak, and suggests that the next directional move in the BTC/USD pair could be explosive.

In my opinion, I believe that the current bearish trend is weakening, and the chances of a rebound back towards the $9,000 level are very strong if the $8,500 level is broken.

The Balance of Power Indicator is also showing that BTC/USD buyers are gaining back control over the short-term. The Balance of Power Indicator is a simple indicator to use, as it shows the strength of buyers against sellers.

A reading higher than zero shows that buyers are in control, while a reading below zero shows that sellers are in control. The four-hour and daily time frames are currently providing positive Balance of Power readings.

* ‘The bullish short-term case is strengthening while the BTC/USD pair holds steady above the $8,100 support level’. *

SENTIMENT

Intraday bullish sentiment for Bitcoin has remained steady, at 65.50%, according to the latest data from TheTIE.io. Long-term sentiment for the cryptocurrency has stabilized, at 61.50%.

UPSIDE POTENTIAL

The early week advance has helped to form a potential double-bottom formation across the lower time frames. According to the upside projection of the double-bottom pattern, the BTC/USD pair could rise towards the $9,200 level if the $8,500 level is breached.

Bitcoin’s 200-day moving average is rising, which should be taken as a positive sign as it indicates growing upside momentum. The BTC/USD pair’s 200-day moving average is currently located around the $8,580 level.

DOWNSIDE POTENTIAL

The BTC/USD pair’s weekly pivot point is the strongest form of near-term technical support, around the $8,100 level. If sellers breach the $8,100 level we should expect a drop towards at least the $8,000 level.

Bitcoin will have to recover fast if price dips under the $8,000 level or the cryptocurrency will likely face a raft of short-term technical selling back towards the September monthly trading low.

Qtum Launches Ally: The Desktop AI Agent Advancing Automation, Control, and Privacy
BTC Bitcoin ETH Ethereum HT Huobi Token QTUM Qtum
CoinGecko News
Original source text
The Qtum Foundation today announced the release of Qtum Ally, a new AI agent designed to advance beyond conversational bots into customizable automation tools.

Ally stands out in the crowded AI landscape by offering a focus on user control, privacy, and desktop-native execution, powered by the industry-standard Model Context Protocol (MCP). Ally gives access to 12 different LLM’s in one application, and allows the user to create powerful agents with integrated MCP servers. Users can also load their own custom models. This entire package is contained in one installable application available for Windows and Mac users.

According to Qtum Co-Founder Miguel Palencia: “With Qtum Ally, productivity isn’t about more tools, it’s about smarter orchestration. By unifying services and coordinating multiple LLM’s with MCP, we put everything at your fingertips in a single refined workspace. I challenged our team to remove the clutter and deliver compounding efficiency; Qtum Ally is the result.”

Building Powerful AI Agents with Built-in Model Context Protocol (MCP) ServersQtum Ally is built to support Model Context Protocol (MCP), which is crucial for enabling AI to do things, not just answer questions. Think of MCP as the “USB-C of AI,” providing a universal interface for AI systems to integrate and share data with external tools and services.

Ally is implemented as an MCP host, designed to help users efficiently combine two or more tasks and manage them with minimal input. Unlike complex systems that required coding experience in the past, Ally enables users to:

• Automate real tasks and go beyond mere chat.

• Manage multi-step workflows.

• Utilize LLMs (like ChatGPT or DeepSeek) to use logic to control and make the MCP hosts work together, allowing the automation of practically anything you can think of. For example, Ally can find specific properties for rent, create a list, and even build the results into a PowerPoint presentation and then e-mail you the results through a series of MCP servers.

• Qtum Ally is configured to work with MCP servers and hosts, and it comes bundled with a series of MCP hosts already pre-installed, allowing users to easily add new ones themselves. These lightweight MCP servers expose specific capabilities, connecting to local or remote data sources, databases, or APIs.

Desktop Native: Control, Privacy, and PerformanceQtum Ally is released as an installed application for Windows and Mac, designed to run natively on your desktop. This offers an alternative to many remotely hosted products:

• Users can run Ally on their own system for more privacy and control.

• Qtum Ally’s design adheres to the broader Qtum vision that aims not to collect personal data. It does not collect personal information above and beyond what is already being collected by the large language models themselves.

Unlocking Premium AI Access for FreeAlly is not only free, but it also provides exceptional value by offering a collection of AI utilities supporting various LLM models including Qwen, DeepSeek, Claude, and Gemini.

For a limited period, users of Qtum Ally can access the functionality of the latest paid features from top LLMs. This includes free access to the paid portion of ChatGPT 5.

Qtum Ally can be downloaded and installed directly from the official Qtum Github repository.

About QtumLaunched in September 2017, the Qtum blockchain is a smart contract platform that blends the best parts of Bitcoin and Ethereum. The blockchain is secured by the Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism, and is completely decentralized. Qtum is listed on most major exchanges, including Binance, Kraken, Upbit, OKex, Huobi, etc.

Qtum has released nearly 50 software updates since launch, while including all major updates from Bitcoin and Ethereum. QuarkChain's Anthurine Xiang: Ethereum and EOS are trying to make a faster chain, without realizing there's a limit
BTC Bitcoin EOS EOS ETH Ethereum QKC Quarkchain ZIL Zilliqa
CoinGecko News
Original source text
QuarkChain is a relatively new project in the cryptocurrency space. Founded in 2017, and did the impossible task of raising funds in 2018 bear market, QuarkChain has become a good project in the eyes of its investors. The blockchain is currently valued at $42 million and has a daily trading volume above $9 million.

We had a chance to catch up with Ms. Anthurine Xiang, the CMO of QuarkChain. She shared some good insights regarding QuarkChain and why it’s set to become a big player in the blockchain space.

Blockmanity: Initially you worked at Wall Street and Silicon Valley. What attracted you to the blockchain industry?

Anthurine: So you see, I have a combined background of finance as well as technology, a really good combination. I knew about Bitcoin for quite a while, but I did not know about blockchain before 2017. While I was working at a tech company in Silicon Valley,  one of my colleagues introduced me to blockchain technology and immediately I found it groundbreaking.

At that point, I had just started investing in cryptocurrency (namely Bitcoin and Ethereum) and also started helping cryptocurrency projects in their marketing in Silicon Valley. One of my colleagues started pitching this project – QuarkChain and he invited me to join as there were only 2-3 engineers.

Back in 2017, when I first joined the blockchain industry it was full of scam projects everywhere. But as I look at the industry now, it has matured and we can see a lot of good projects in the industry. I know many engineers from Google and Facebook looking joining this space.

Blockmanity: You had raised funds in 2018, how hard was it to raise funds in this bearish market?

Anthurine: It was really hard to raise funds in the 2018 market. We started raising money in February 2018. I remember we had a very small investment before April. But in April the story changed. The markets were better than February and March. We were also getting noticed at that time.

A lot of projects were doing Airdrops at that time, we decided not to do an Airdrop. We already had a testnet by March 2018, and we invited a few engineers and media and did some transaction in front of them. The transactions were really fast.  And, the media posted a few articles about us and the engineers started promoting our project through word of mouth. And that’s how we got initial traction.

One thing that helped us raise funds, is our unique approach to the scalability problem. We are solving the scalability problem using “Sharding”.

Sharding is not new. Back to 2010, every major tech company was doing scalability using a clusters machine. But it didn’t work out as it was expensive and efficient. That’s when the idea of on-demand scaling was implemented. If the demand is high, increase computation and if less decrease the computation. This is called “Sharding”.

In 2018, to improve scalability everyone was either trying to increase the block size or decrease the confirmation time or get a new consensus algorithm. We said leave that, we decided to use sharding which is a proven technology. And it worked. Sharding allows us to scale in a linear way. And different shards also allow people to use their own consensus algorithm.

Anthurine shoqing Quarkchain’s user growth

When we introduced the project we were the only one implementing sharding. The only project which was doing sharding at that time was Zilliqa, but they weren’t using it to its full potential. At that time Ethereum started talking about Sharding as well.

Blockmanity: In your whitepaper, you mention your goal is to achieve 1 million TPS. EOS tried that as well but failed miserably. Why do you think QuarkChain will be able to achieve this?

Anthurine: That is because of Sharding. EOS, they are trying to make a faster chain. Ethereum is trying to make a faster chain. But, there is always a limit for a single chain. The philosophy behind sharding is to scale up using multiple chains.

To speed up, we can come to different chains (shards) and each of these chains can have its own consensus. There will be better faster consensus coming out this year or the future. And we can incorporate them all through sharding. Theoretically, there can even be a million shards.

In our testnet, we had a TPS competition and the number one user achieved 50K TPS. And is due to current technology. With better and faster consensus algorithms we can achieve 1 million TPS in the future.

Blockmanity: Sharding requires a centralized entity requiring to oversee the scalable chains. Doesn’t QuarkChain become that centralized entity, going against the principle of decentralization?

Anthurine: Our blockchain’s design is similar to Polkadot’s. Polkadot’s interoperability works through a hub model. Polkadot’s SDK acts as a hub which connects different chains and facilitates interoperability. Similar to Polkadot, existing blockchains can be forked as a shard on our blockchain.

I would not consider QuarkChain as a public chain but rather like AWS. We provide the infrastructure to speed up transactions and provide interoperability functions to existing blockchains. So this allows us to work with public chains as well.

Each shard on our platform can have its own token economics. The reason public chains work with us because we help them solve the scalability issue. This means they don’t need to solve scalability issue on their own. They can use our infrastructure to achieve their goal.

We are going to add more functional shards in the future. Our next step is to add a privacy shard, which allows people to send money in a private. With our functionality shards, people can exchange tokens in a decentralized manner.

Blockmanity: While going through news on QuarkChain we came across a product call QPocket. What is QPocket?

Anthurine: QPocket is a wallet by us and not infrastructure. Think of QPocket as an entry to DApps. Any DApps sitting on a blockchain, if they want a user-friendly entry point, QPocket will provide them that. It has nothing to do with blockchain but more to do with DApps.

Blockmanity: Speaking in terms of DApps, what according to will be the next killer DApp?

Anthurine: To be honest, I don’t know what would be the next killer DAps. What I know is that we have to be ready for the next killer Dapps, and we should constantly be on the lookout for them. We have to be flexible to provide them the technology they need. We want the next killer DApp built on QuarkChain. It will take time, but personally, I think it will be on the payment side.

Blockmanity: Great, so what’s next for QuarkChain?

Anthurine: Ah good question. QuarkChain is quite flexible. And our step is to increase this flexibility. This is to increase the number of functionality shards.

The next shard we are adding is the privacy shard. We have also signed some contracts with big enterprises to develop the blockchain technology with them.

We are also going to expand our community and get ourselves listed on more exchanges. We recently had our first community governance, and people agreed that they want to accelerate the token release process. After this, we will do a lot more news releases and get a lot of people to know about QuarkChain.

Blockmanity: Great, sound like a busy year ahead. A final question, how can people earn QuarkChain (QKC) tokens?

Ans) There are 2 ways to earn QKC tokens. First, We hold regular bounties which include joining our community and earning some QKC tokens. In fact, the last one ended a couple of weeks back. But it is only sometimes.

Second, and the best way is to join our Guardian program. As a guardian, anyone can join as a candidate with the promise to bring some value to the community. Existing members will vote for you and if you bring the promised value you will earn reward QKC as well as the people who voted for you earn QKC. You can also vote using your QKC and earn more QKC.

Ethereum’s Buterin addresses potential threat to PoS security via DeFi
ETH Ethereum QKC Quarkchain
CoinGecko News
Original source text
Posted: December 4, 2019

Decentralized finance, popularly known as DeFi, has been one of the greatest use cases of the Ethereum network. With most of the DeFi applications developed on the Ethereum blockchain, DeFi has a total of about $660.2 million locked in the platform. However, Dragonfly Research’s Haseeb Qureshi claims to have pointed out a potential threat to the Proof-of-Stake [PoS] algorithm.

While the Ethereum community has been gearing up for the network’s transition from Proof-of-Work [PoW] to PoS with Ethereum 2.0, Qureshi’s latest post questions the working of PoS in the network. With DeFi’s most popular sector being the lending and borrowing platform, this on-chain lending platform not only affects traditional secured lending, but also the PoS consensus.

Qureshi, in his post, elaborated on how secure the PoS system is and wrote,

“A PoS system is secure when there are lots of coins actively staked for the network. In most PoS algorithms, so long as 2/3rds of all the staked assets are owned by honest actors, the blockchain will be secure.”

There are two possible ways a person could attack the PoS system. The first one would be fairly difficult and expensive as it requires the attacker to acquire 1/3rd of the remaining stake. However, Qureshi listed out a second option that would require the attacker to influence present stakers to discontinue staking and take over the much cheaper network by offering them a better yield elsewhere. This could be possible as stakers require rewards that are big enough in order to be incentivized to stake. He further detailed the reason behind the same and wrote,

“But if they can get better returns elsewhere, then you should expect a rational staker to unstake their assets and put them wherever they earn a higher return.”

This could possibly transfer the demand away from staking which would make the network comparably less safe. Taking into consideration on-chain lending markets, they directly challenge staking further testing the security of the entire protocol. Furthermore, while Ethereum is yet to dive into the PoS algorithm, Qureshi described the only way to defend the possible attack. He wrote,

“The only realistic way that this can be defended against is by using flexible monetary policy to offer competitive rates when necessary. Any fixed inflationary regime is vulnerable to this kind of attack, since an attacker always knows exactly how much they need to subsidize the lending market in order to cannibalize stakers.”

While Ethereum’s Vlad Zamfir dismissed Qureshi’s post and labeled it “ancient long-adressed bullsh*t,” Co-founder of the Ethereum network, Vitalik Buterin, elaborated on why the research doesn’t hold. In a series of tweets, Buterin said,

The assumption that deflationary monetary policy implies R approaches zero is wrong, it ignores transaction fees

Obviously if rewards *and* fees approach zero percentage staked approaches zero

— vitalik.eth (@VitalikButerin) December 3, 2019

Additionally, Qi Zhou, Founder of QuarkChain, commented on Qureshi’s Medium post suggesting another possibility, “suppose a block producing reward (not include tx fees) equals to staker_token / sum_of_all_staker_token.” Zhou pointed out that there is a chance of stakers unstaking and lending their tokens if the rate of return of PoS would be worse than lending. This would further lower the total staked token and increase the return rate of PoS, which would help in attaining an equilibrium. He concluded by stating,

Ethereum Foundation Launches Bold New Push To Accelerate DeFi Growth
AUCTION Bounce ETH Ethereum LSK Lisk
CoinGecko News

The Ethereum Foundation is taking a decisive step to strengthen decentralized finance (DeFi) on ETH and launching a new initiative. This move signals a renewed strategic focus on scaling DeFi adoption, improving protocol security, and fostering sustainable growth across lending, trading, and on-chain financial services.

Why Boosting Developer Support And Ecosystem Funding In a key development, the Ethereum Foundation is launching a renewed and more ambitious protocol to strengthen DeFi within the ETH ecosystem. Ethereum Daily has revealed on X that the initiative is being framed as a Defipunk approach, which is centered on building financial infrastructure that is truly permissionless, private, secure, and fully open-source. The goal is to enable anyone, anywhere, to save, borrow, hedge risk, or make payments without relying on big companies like banks or large corporations.

Rather than focusing solely on incremental upgrades to existing applications, like improved stablecoins, the Foundation’s vision reportedly targets deeper structural innovation. The key areas include developing more secure price oracles, enhancing privacy loans to reduce unfair liquidations, and integrating artificial intelligence (AI) to strengthen system security.

With a newly formed DeFi team leading the effort, the foundation is inviting developers who share its vision to help build a financial system that will give users full control and expand accessibility, not just speculators.

How Inflow And Outflow Trends Reveal Strategic Positioning Even as ETH price action has been brutally down from $4,900 to below $2,000, Ethereum spot ETF flows are quietly signaling a shift behind the surface. The head of research at Lisk, analyst Leon Waidmann, stated that the ETF flow dynamics have shown that after a period of heavy outflow around mid-2025, the intensity of selling pressure has been gradually fading.

Meanwhile, the massive inflow waves that were seen in late 2024 and early 2025 have subsided, and the peak panic selling that followed has largely dissipated. The recent ETF flow bars are significantly smaller in both directions compared to the prior volatile period, and sellers are running out of steam.

Source: Chart from Leon Waidmann on X Waidmann noted that this shift is significant because, despite one of the sharpest ETH drawdowns in recent memory, the institutional exodus appears to be exhausting. While the weak hand that wanted out has largely exited, this means there’s no bottom.

However, there’s still a slight outflow bias in recent weeks, indicating that there’s no confirmed accumulation signal yet. Waidmann emphasized that the intensity of the selling pressure is clearly fading, which is the first step that must happen before any trend reversal. In his view, participants should pay attention to when the selling dries up before sentiment recovers, because that’s usually where the next move will start to build.

Waves, Augur and Ethereum price: Bearish channel persists as optimism hovers

With the collective cryptocurrency market trading sideways, altcoins are moving helter-skelter. Ethereum, Waves and Augur, three diverse altcoins have moved in different directions, one is is yet to recover, another is trending upwards, while the third is trading flat.

Ethereum

The leading altcoin in the market saw increasing decoupling from Bitcoin earlier in the year, but now the push-and-pull with the leading cryptocurrency is back. Ether, posting a market cap of $14 .1 billion, is trading with a narrow increasingly downward sloping wedge, formed as a consequence of the infamous March 12 drop, when Bitcoin lost almost half its value.

Resistance, for the altcoin, lies quite high at $141, while the press time price was $129. Looking down, the altcoin finds support, closer to its market price at $125.4, which is where the lower bottom of the wedge lies.

Bollinger Bands for Ethereum posit an increase in volatility as the bands are moving further apart. Given that in the last two hours the candlesticks have turned red, the average is now intersecting with the price, if it moves above the price, bearish woes lie ahead.

Augur

Augur, unlike its contemporaries, is trading in an upwards channel, with the price rising since the beginning of the previous week. Owing to the March 12 collapse, Augur had lost almost a third of its value, falling to a low of $7.86. Since then, the upwards channel has pushed the coin as high as $9.86, its press time price.

Since hitting the support of $7.64, the altcoin has seen bullish pulls, allowing it to break resistance after resistance, flipping it into support levels. Two such levels can be charted at $8.24 and $9.54, respectively. Despite the fall on 27 March, REP has managed to steer clear of the drop below the latter support, and now is striving to trade within the upward channel.

MACD line for REP has moved below 0 and has dipped below the Signal line indicating bearish pressures. With the upward channel’s lower-bound trend line close to the price, the coin will face a struggle going forward.

Waves

The Waves platform cryptocurrency, has seen a roller coaster ride since the beginning of 2020, and now is right back to where it started. Since breaking $1 and then $1.5 in February and March, the coin went down with the Bitcoin drop, losing almost 40 percent of its value, and is now trading at $0.815.

Support lines lie at $0.789 and $0.726, while a short term resistance line is present above at $0.962, with the price firmly in between. Since the March 12 drop, the altcoin has seen a visible, albeit weak, upward channel, which is looking to alter given the dropping price since March 27.

RSI for the Waves platform cryptocurrency has been dropping since mid-February, indicating a surging selling pressure, and now is at 40.74 a marginal recovery from 33.9 where it stood on March 14.

FTT, Augur, Tezos price: Alts reconquers previously breached levels
ETH Ethereum REP Augur XTZ Tezos

Posted: March 31, 2020

The latest bullish appraisal was indicative of the fact that the downturn in the crypto-market was short-lived as the collective market cap sprung to $180 billion. Unfortunately for the bears, a continuation of this upward momentum could potentially help recover the substantial losses incurred by many of these coins during the 12 March market crash, especially in the case of Alts like Tezos, Augur, and FTT.

Tezos [XTZ]

In a recent development for the Tezos ecosystem, the token XTZ was recently listed on the crypto-exchange Poloniex. On its price side, however, the token failed to maintain an upward movement and despite a bullish streak in the early days of 2020, XTZ collapsed to $2.00-level. However, the latest rally did drive the price closer to its resistance level.

At press time, Tezos’s price stood at $1.59, while holding a market cap of $1.12 billion. Additionally, the token registered a trading volume of $90.05 million after surging by 4.21% over the last 24-hours.

Resistance: $2.57, $3.18

Support: $1.23, $0.76

MACD: The signal line hovering below the MACD indicated a bullish phase for the coin.

Chaikin Money Flow: The CMF also noted an upward movement towards the bullish zone.

Augur [REP]

Augur recently announced the fork of MolochDAO, which is focused on funding the development of Ethereum 2.0, to create OracleDAO. This DAO is essentially a smart contract that aims to coordinate efforts to build tools and market Augur, and its token REP.

Augur [REP] was also enjoying the latest price movement as it was up by a whopping 6.67% which drove its price to $10.34. At press time, the coin had a market cap of $113.7 million and registered a 24-hour trading volume of $42.23.

Resistance: $12.75, $17.28

Support: $6.39

Parabolic SAR: The dotted markers were below the Augur price candles which was indicative of a bullish trend.

Awesome Oscillator: The AO indicator also depicted a bullish price trend for the coin with its green closing bars.

FTX Token [FTT]

The recent price action of the crypto-platform FTX’s native token, FTT, has not been very impressive. One of the factors was speculated to be Binance delisting all leveraged tokens linked to the FTX Exchange.

However, following the latest market rally, FTT token was also up by 6.99%, propelling its coin to climb to a value of $2.41. At press time, the token held a market cap of $230.4 million and a 24-hour trading volume of $3.34 million.

Resistance: $2.81

Support: $2.007

Klinger Oscillator: The KO line above the signal line suggested a bullish flip for the token in the near-term.

RSI: RSI spiked from the oversold zone to the 50-median neutral zone, meaning a revival of interest among the investors in the FTT market.

It’s not uncommon for Non-Profit organizations to accept donations, but it’s not very common for these donations to come in the form of cryptocurrencies. Stellar is one blockchain/crypto project that is now making the big step towards donating to non-profits.

As a matter of fact, the foundation has already announced that it will be giving out a total of 1.9 million Stellar Lumens (XLM) to a select 6 organizations that have had its back for some time. The lucky non-profits include Heifer International (a global organization fighting hunger by helping agricultural producers), Women Who Code (encourages women to take up positions in the tech industry), Watsi (creates new technologies to improve financing models in the healthcare sector), Freedom of the Press, Unicef France, and the Tor Project (the creator of the anonymizing browser called The Onion Router).

Crypto Donations In the case of Tor, the project has been receiving crypto donations (Bitcoin) since 2013. Tor started accepting other cryptos in March 2019. These include Dash (DASH), Litecoin (LTC), Zcash (ZEC), Stellar Lumens (XLM), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Ethereum (ETH), Augur (REP), and Monero (XMR). In fact, according to the project’s fundraising director, Sarah Stevenson, about 20% of the donations received by Tor come in form of cryptocurrencies.

Stellar’s new move in giving out crypto donations highlights the increasing exposure of cryptos to possible mass adoption in the future. Also, Stellar wants to support the non-profits as they have been using its technology and supporting its project, and it’s only right for the company to return the favor.

Crypto Against Coronavirus Granted, Stellar isn’t the only crypto-oriented donor in the industry. Various entities have moved to send their donations in cryptos during hard economic times and unrest in countries like Venezuela. Now, even more, entities are stepping up to help in the fight against the current Coronavirus pandemic.

In late March, Binance Exchange made a huge move by starting an initiative dubbed #CryptoAgainstCOVID. The initiative is focused on buying and distributing much-needed medical supplies to the regions hit by the pandemic. For a start, Binance donated $1 million towards the cause and pledged to match any public donation to a tune of another $1 million.

Crypto Tidbits: Bitcoin Loses $7k, Blockchain Layoffs, Ethereum DeFi Explodes

Another week, another round of Crypto Tidbits. Bitcoin has effectively been flat on the week, recently returning to around where it started the week after briefly interacting with the ever-important $7,400 resistance. Altcoins, interestingly, came into their own this week, with Ethereum, Link, Tezos, EOS, among other top altcoins posting double-digit percentage gains in the past seven days.

Bitcoin’s stagnation over the past week comes as the stock market has mounted a strong comeback, with the S&P 500 rallying 12% from last Friday’s close to Thursday’s close despite 6.6 million new unemployment claims in the U.S. and the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

Despite the non-action, analysts are still bullish on BTC and the rest of the cryptocurrency market. In fact, as reported by NewsBTC previously, BitMEX CEO Arthur Hayes said that while he could see Bitcoin revisiting $3,000, his year-end price target “remains $20,000,” which is 180% above the current price.

As to why he thinks this is the case, he cited that the monetary and fiscal solutions that governments and central banks are enlisting to stave off precision:

“Everyone knows the shift is upon us, that is why central bankers and politicians will throw all of their tools at this problem. And I will reiterate, that is inflationary because more fiat money will chase a flat to declining supply of real goods and labour. There are only two things to own during the transition to whatever the new system is and that is gold and bitcoin.”

Outside of this, one of the original crypto companies, Factom, has purportedly gone into liquidation, despite securing millions of dollars worth of funding over the past five years and garnering a grant from the U.S. Energy Department. Ethereum DeFi Has Seen Stellar Growth: In a report published April 9th, blockchain analytics site DappReview revealed that transaction volume across Ethereum-based DeFi projects has increased by nearly 800% when comparing Q1 2020’s metrics to that of Q1 2019. Much of this growth was attributed to projects like Maker and Compound — which offer decentralized loans and stablecoin solutions — and derivatives providers like Synthetix and Augur. This growth comes as crypto upstart Thesis and other partners are soon to release tBTC — a project that will act as a decentralized representation of Bitcoin on the Ethereum blockchain. Analysts expect for the launch of this project to boost DeFi adoption, with both ETH  and BTC holders Bitcoin Cash & Bitcoin SV See Block Reward Halvings: Both Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin SV have seen their block reward halvings pass in the past 72 hours. As a result, both networks saw their hash rates and difficulty drop. The halving resulted in an instant 50% reduction in mining revenues for those operating on the BCH and BSV chain, forcing operators running on tight margins to turn off their machines or mine on other networks. Fewer machines mean fewer computers processing blocks, resulting in slower transactions. South Korea Launches Digital Currency Project: On Monday, South Korea’s central bank, the Bank of Korea, revealed that it has launched a pilot program for testing a digital won, which is slated to run to December 2021.  A release outlining this move said the program will determine if there are a legal case and ample technical capability to launch a digital currency in South Korea. This comes just six weeks after the South Korean National Assembly passed legislation that will provide a comprehensive framework for the regulation and legalization of cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin exchanges. Twitter CEO & Bitcoin Bull Jack Dorsey Pledges $1 Billion to COVID-19 Relief: Jack Dorsey announced in a Twitter thread this week that Yesterday, Dorsey announced in a Twitter thread — it’s quite fitting, I must say — that he will be “moving $1 billion of my Square equity,” which purportedly corresponds with around 28% of his total wealth, to a LLC called “Start Small” to “fund global COVID-19 relief.” Start Small existed prior to this outbreak, but this is the first time it has seen mainstream attention. The Bitcoin bull intends to allocate the rest of the donation to the promotion of Universal Basic Income and girl’s health and education, calling both issues critical. Fidelity Sees Growth In Crypto Demand: Fidelity Digital Assets — the crypto services division of Wall Street giant Fidelity Investments, a firm with trillions under management — has confirmed it has seen an uptick in interest. Speaking to Frank Chaparro of The Block, a spokeswoman for the firm said that:
“From a trading perspective, we continue to onboard new clients every month and are seeing significant pipeline growth. […] And in recent weeks, we’ve seen more momentum across our business.”

Why Ethereum Doesn’t Have the Monopoly on Leading #DeFi Projects

2019 is the year of decentralized finance. The #DeFi movement was still in its fledgling stage at the end of 2018, but in the wake of the recent resurgence in the crypto markets, it’s taken off. In March, ConsenSys published a blog post listing – believe it or not – over a hundred DeFi projects, with several commenters suggesting even more.

Of course, the ConsenSys list only included those projects developing their DeFi applications on the Ethereum blockchain. But this shouldn’t go unchallenged. After all, if the DeFi concept is truly about decentralization, then any finance application built on any decentralized blockchain platform could qualify as #DeFi. Furthermore, now that Ethereum has more competition from platforms like Stellar, Tron, or Zilliqa, it makes sense that the #DeFi ecosystem can also grow on any other platform too.

Across DeFi and the entire dApp space, Ethereum indeed has the numbers. At the peak of the ICO boom, which was fueled in part by the easy availability of ERC-20 tokens, more than 100 new dApps were being added to Ethereum every month.

However, at this point in 2019, the ecosystem has diversified. Particularly in the categories of trading platforms and automated market making, there are some notable examples of non-Ethereum projects that have established themselves as heavyweights.

Bancor Bancor was one of the first DeFi projects to come to fruition. It pioneered the concept of the liquidity network, designed to overcome the challenge of illiquidity in altcoins and enable an extensive range of swaps between different tokens. Whereas a traditional crypto exchange depends on having a full order book to ensure that trades can happen without delays, Bancor works differently. The Bancor network is based on the concept of “Smart Tokens.”

The native token of the Bancor network is BNT, which is a smart token in itself. The BNT token holds reserves of all other tokens on the network. Therefore, when someone wants to make an exchange, the network uses the BNT token as a relay, with the reserves enabling instant liquidity. This negates the need to have a counterparty for the trade, as is needed in a traditional exchange.

In Bancor’s earlier days, it faced some criticism for having developed its own tokens. At the time, the project was operating token swaps on the Ethereum blockchain. Uniswap, an Ethereum-based liquidity project that came later, simply used ETH as the relay token, which critics said was a more straightforward solution.

However, Bancor has always held a vision of enabling continuously liquid swaps between any tokens, regardless of which blockchain they’re developed on. The company has now integrated the EOS platform tokens and has plans for more in the future. In light of this, using a blockchain-agnostic Smart Token was a prescient move. It’s also worth noting that Vitalik Buterin himself spoke out on Reddit in support of the Bancor concept of using smart contracts to hold token reserves as a means of making markets. Nothing in his comments implied that the reserves have to be denominated in ETH.

Fetch.AI Fetch.AI is shaping up to be one of the hottest projects of 2019. The project is a graduate of the Binance Launchpad program, where its token sale sold out within hours. Converging both blockchain and artificial intelligence, Fetch.AI is developing a universal integration protocol, where digital autonomous agents perform different kinds of tasks within an open economic framework. Through these agents, individuals or enterprises can participate in “smart markets” where supply is connected to demand in the most efficient way possible.

The platform offers a range of use cases from ridesharing to logistics. However, from a DeFi perspective, the ability to implement automated market makers is perhaps one of the most compelling.

Essentially, market making is a complex optimization problem where current and historical pricing data is used to determine the value of an asset and provide a reference forward curve. The Fetch.AI protocol’s synergetic smart contracts and virtual machine can solve the optimization problem to generate market orders that maximize returns, based on various market making strategies.

Such a toolkit and framework opens up an entirely new model of liquidity and market making, not only for digital assets but also for commodities in the real world where liquidity is limited, and the cost of exchange listings is high. The Fetch.AI framework enables Autonomous Decentralized Market Making (ADMM) to be deployed cross chains – something that wouldn’t be possible with a pure Ethereum deployment.

BitShares BitShares was the first of the three blockchain projects for which Dan Larimer made his name, the latter two being Steem, and most recently, “Ethereum-killer” EOS. The project was formerly known as Protoshares, rebranded as BitShares in 2014, and is an enterprise-level “crypto-equity” smart contract platform.

In 2016, BitShares was added to the Microsoft Azure Blockchain-as-a-Service platform, which at the time was one of only four projects to achieve this status. Interestingly, Ethereum was among the other three.

The BitShares BTS token is used as collateral for a variety of DeFi applications on the platform, including exchanges, banking, or creation of financial derivatives. Using the BitShares protocol, anyone can issue “smart coins,” which are collateralized and market-pegged.

Unlike, for example, Tether, which is operated by a closed-box company, BitShares is fully decentralized with the security of funds lying with the users. The platform is run by a decentralized autonomous company, which is responsible for making all decisions related to the project.

While it’s true that Ethereum currently has the majority of DeFi projects in quantity, these three projects demonstrate that there is a healthy balance for non-Ethereum projects in terms of quality.  If the DeFi concept is going to thrive within the overall crypto ecosystem, then it’s necessary to protect and nurture diversity. Doing so will create more opportunities for startups and ultimately, provide a wider choice for users.

Komodo Review: The Open & Composable Multi-Chain Platform
BTC Bitcoin BTS BitShares DASH Dash ETH Ethereum KMD Komodo NEO NEO WAVES Waves XMR Monero ZEC Zcash
CoinGecko News
Original source text
The Komodo platform is many things – a unique blockchain, a coin that pays interest, a decentralized exchange, a development blockchain with many additional features being planned for the future.

The Komodo blockchain is a fork of the ZCash blockchain, which itself was forked from the Bitcoin blockchain, making Komodo a descendent of Bitcoin. It includes the zk-snark technology that Zcash was built upon, and adds a delayed proof of work consensus algorithm to make Komodo more robust and secure.

The ultimate goal of Komodo is to create an entire ecosystem comprised of diverse partnerships that will send the platform forward into the future. Because it was designed to be used by developers of any level and in any industry it is extremely versatile.

In this comprehensive review, I will give you everything that you need to know about the Komodo platform.

How Komodo WorksThose doing development on the Komodo platform are not building onto the blockchain, but are instead building their own standalone blockchains. It’s not a fork or sidechain, and the Komodo platform doesn’t act as a parent to the new blockchain.

Each project is an independent blockchain that becomes connected to the Komodo ecosystem. This is crucial because the fact that each blockchain is independent means that future development won’t be limited by Komodo in any way.

Benefits of the Komodo Platform

Komodo was also designed from the ground up as a modular ecosystem. This allows developers to choose which technologies they wish to use in their own projects.

Perhaps most importantly, Komodo was developed with security as a top priority. In addition to using the Zcash zk-snark protocols for anonymity and privacy, Komodo uses a delayed proof of work (PoW) protocol to provide Bitcoin level security to even the smallest blockchains and projects. As stated on the Komodo website itself:

Komodo’s innovative dPOW (delayed proof of work) provides a security layer that creates backups of your blockchain’s data and notarizes it to Bitcoin’s blockchain, providing even the smallest of blockchains with Bitcoin-level security.

In essence, Komodo is using Bitcoin’s hashrate to ensure immutability for the Komodo blockchain.

Komodo PrivacyKomodo was created as a form of the Zcash blockchain, using their technology known as ‘Zero Knowledge Proofs’. This technology allows each transaction on the blockchain to be 100% anonymous or as transparent as necessary given the requirements of each situation.

Anonymous transactions are important to many users because they hide the amount, sender and recipient of the transaction, but still make it possible for miners to verify that the transaction is valid and without any double-spending. Alternatively transactions can be left transparent, in which case information shows just as it would for a Bitcoin transaction.

Anonymous transactions help protect user privacy, but they provide a more important function, and that is to preserve fungibility, which is a basic requirement for any currency.

Komodo SecurityAfter including privacy by forming from Zcash, the developers of Komodo provided for enhanced security of the blockchain in a unique manner. They created a proof of work token, but modified it to be Delayed Proof of Work, allowing it to recycle Bitcoin’s hashrate to ensure immutability of Komodo’s blockchain.

Komodo does this by using 64 “notary nodes” that work to notarize blocks in the Bitcoin blockchain. This provides protection for Komodo because an attacker would have to alter both the block in the Komodo blockchain and the block in the Bitcoin blockchain.

Steps in the Komodo Delayed Proof of Work

As long as the Bitcoin blockchain is secure, so too will Komodo – and all the other blockchains built using Komodo – remain secure.

This mechanism can now be used by any cryptocurrency that wishes enhanced security. By using Komodo the new blockchains are connected to Bitcoin, benefiting from the security of the Bitcoin blockchain, while also saving on transaction costs.

Komodo TeamThe Komodo project is based on anonymity, so it comes as no surprise that many of the Komodo team members initially chose not to reveal their identity. The founder and one core developer of Komodo went by the moniker JL777, but is now known as James ‘JL777’ Lee.

The CTO of the project was known as CA333, but we now know him as Kadan Stadelmann. This increased transparency has come about as Komodo grows in size and scope and is attracting more investors.

The full team is now nearly 30 members spanning leadership, development, marketing, and community development. And speaking of community, there are numerous contributors from the community, both developers and community outreach ambassadors.

Some of the Komodo Team Members

Currently, the general manager of Komodo is Ben Fairbanks, who is also the founder and CEO of RedFOX Labs, an incubator that is helping to launch Komodo based companies in emerging markets. Prior to joining Komodo and launching RedFOX, he served as COO at the ride-hailing service Grab. He brings extensive business and marketing experience to the project.

The CTO of the Komodo project, almost since the very beginning, has been Kaden Stadelmann. He also serves as CTO of RedFOX Labs. He previously worked as an IT security analyst and software developer, and founded the company satoshihack back in 2011, making him a pioneer in the blockchain space.

Core development is led by founder James Lee, and he is joined by Adam Bullock and Mihailo Milenkovic as well as roughly a dozen full-time developers and another dozen community volunteer developers.

KMD CoinThe Komodo native currency (KMD) was launched in an ICO in February 2017 at a price of $0.10. Since then the price of the coin has risen and fallen with the fortunes of the project and the markets. As of mid-March 2018 it was trading at $2.73 and was ranked the #48 coin by market cap on Coinmarketcap.com.

Even though 2018 saw many coins losing 90% or more of their value, KMD held up fairly well in the face of the bear market. It rallied in April, topping $4 and slowly sank from that level, finally dipping under $1 in November 2018 and hitting a low of $0.492329 on November 25, 2018.

It slowly recovered from that low and by February 2019 had doubled in price as it traded back above $1. It remained above $1 for nearly all of 2019, and nearly hit $2 in July 2019, but the price has recently dropped and as of August 9, 2019 stands at $0.863399.

KMD Price Performance. Image via CMC

The fundamentals for the coin continue to look solid thanks to the 5% annual interest rate paid to KMD holders, and the current low price is more a reflection of broad-based weakness in the cryptocurrency markets.

There are currently 115,389,114KMD in circulation, with a planned total supply of 200 million coins, which is projected to be reached in 2031. Until that time, KMD holders will continue to receive a 5.1% annual interest payment (called Active User Rewards) on their KMD holdings, so long as they keep more than 10 KMD in a wallet where they control the private keys. The KMD had an all-time high of $12.54 on December 21, 2017.

Buying & Storing KMDKMD can be purchased on a good number of exchanges, with the largest volume on CoinBene. There is also good volume at Binance, CoinEx, and HitBTC. Other good choices for buying KMD include CoinEx and Bittrex.

Given that there is strong volume across a number of exhanges, it bodes well for the liquidity of KMD. Improved liquidity means that you can execute large block orders on these books without much slippage in the price of the coin.

In order to earn the 5.1% annual interest users must hold their KMD in a supported wallet. The top two based on the Komodo website are the Verus Agama wallet, which is a multi-coin wallet from the Verus Coin project, or the native Komodo OceanQT wallet. Other options include the Guarda Wallet and the ZelCore wallet.

Development & RoadmapWhen it comes to determining the amount of work that has been done by a project, there are a number of metrics one can look at.

However, one of the most effective that I have found is to take a look at the coding activity in the project's public repositories.

Therefore, I decided to jump into the Komodo GitHub to get a better sense of what the developers have been pushing over the past year. Below is the total code commits to two of their development repos.

Commits for Select Repos over past 12 months

As you can see from the above, the team has been quite active pushing code to their core repository over the past year. It is also worth pointing out that there are a further 56 other repositories with varying degrees of activity.

This is more development activity than we have seen at most other projects. In fact, if we were to compare Komodo to its peers, it is ranked 30th in terms of commits and 12th for overall coding activity on coincodecap.

This perhaps makes sense when viewed in the context of the numerous projects being built on the Komodo platform (more below).

In terms of the upcoming roadmap, the two most important remaining milestones for 2019 are the release of the developer portal as well as the GUI for the fully mobile-ready wallet/DEX hybrid.

If you want to keep up to date with development on the project then I suggest you jump into their discord and meet the team. They also encourage community developer contributions to the core.

Komodo Platform ProjectsThere are a number of standalone projects that were developed for the Komodo platform. Those that are farthest along in development and have been released as at least betas include Decentralized ICOs, BarterDEX along with a built-in “tumbler” service called Jumblr.

However, as of July 2019 Komodo has launched its Antara Framework, which is the basis for nearly all current services on Komodo.

Decentralized Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs)The Decentralised ICO concept was meant to be an exciting option for startups as it would mean that they could launch their process much easier. It would also have given them access to the Komodo technology, marketing channels, and consultants.

However, given the regulatory pressure that has been placed on ICOs recently, this initiative seems to have fallen by the wayside. Of course, the lackluster performance of most recent ICOs has not helped the process.

The Komodo team had plans to launch a number of Decentralised ICOs. In May of last year they planned to release their first with the BlocNation dICO. However, this did not seem to materialize and the Blocnation project seems to have gone dead (with the site down).

Despite this though, Komodo will accept pre-existing blockchain projects on other platforms that would like to migrate to Komodo to receive your own fully customizable, high performing independent blockchain.

As of August 2019 there are a number of projects that have launched on Komodo.

JumblrJumblr is a cryptocurrency anonymizer developed by Komodo which is decentralized and open-source. It can be used to increase privacy when using the Komodo platform.

Anonymizing funds is actually a fairly straightforward and simple practice. The Jumblr will take KMD tokens from a non-private address and send them through a number of zk-snark addresses.

Once these untraceable addresses have processed the coins they are sent to a new address where they are completely anonymous. The fee for using the Jumblr service is 0.3%, which is payable in KMD tokens.

BarterDEX Rebranded to AtomicDEXBarterDEX was previously called EasyDEX but was rebranded in July 2017. It is a decentralized exchange utilizing atomic swaps, and more recently etomic swaps, which bridge the gap between Bitcoin and Ethereum based blockchains.

The use of atomic swaps and etomic swaps lower counterparty risk, transaction fees and speeds the transfer of assets. BarterDEX can support trading of any cryptocurrency, and will also support fiat in the future. Already the decentralized exchange is capable of performing swaps for 95% of the cryptocurrencies in existence.

BarterDEX also solves the liquidity problem encountered by most decentralized exchanges by producing Liquidity Nodes that stabilizes prices by buying and selling assets in the order books.

In July 2019 the BarterDEX platform got another upgrade and rebrand and has been re-launched as AtomicDEX in a closed public beta. AtomicDEX provides a secure, reliable, and completely decentralized method for trading digital assets.

Trades no longer have to pass through an intermediary but are done from wallet to wallet. AtomicDEX will act as a multi-currency wallet and as a fully decentralized trading platform. At its beta release, AtomicDEX has support for 13 different coins, but can technically support 99% of all existing cryptocurrencies. New coins will be added with each update to the DEX.

The Antara FrameworkThe Antara Framework was launched on the Komodo mainnet on July 15, 2019, completing a rebrand that stretched out for nearly a full year. This relaunch has included several new developments, such as the beta release of the Antara Smart Chain Composer, which allows anyone to launch their own SmartChain blockchain in just minutes, including full seed nodes and mining nodes.

The Antara Framework is an adaptable framework for simple, end-to-end blockchain development. Antara makes it easier than ever before to launch a chain, activate modules, and start building blockchain-based applications.

Antara has maintained the independence and privacy of building with Komodo. Each independent chain has its own consensus rules, hashing algorithm, decentralized network, and coin. Blockchains launched with Komodo’s technology never depend on the KMD chain, network, or platform.

It’s an open ecosystem so there is no vendor lock-in. Creating a chain from the CLI is permissionless and free. The Komodo team is not informed when a chain is created so there's no way to track a chain after launch.

The framework also comes with built-in modules, making development speedy and easier. This allows developers to natively support any software, dApp or blockchain-based games.

With 18 different customizable Smart Chain parameters, any blockchain can be built to serve any business need. The Antara Integration Layer also offers several white label products such as a multi-coin wallet, block explorers, full seed nodes, a branded DEX, a crowdfunding app and integration with SPV Electrum servers.

CompetitionBecause Komodo is involved in so many aspects of the blockchain it is facing competition from many different directions.

Decentralized exchanges are becoming increasingly popular, and the AtomicDEX exchange is in competition with BitShares, EtherDelta, and Waves, as well as many other smaller players.

As a privacy coin, KMD competes against the larger Dash and Monero coins, and of course against the Zcash that it was forked from.

Komodo faces stiff competition from Ethereum as it is the leader in the ICO and smart contracts field, but other established blockchains such as NEO, NXT and Waves are also competing for ICO traction.

And now we also have initial exchange offerings (IEOs) from the likes of Binance and other exchanges growing in popularity. Smart contracts have also found their way into most projects. One strength for Komodo is that it is the first to offer a fully decentralized exchange with atomic swap capabilities.

ConclusionThe Komodo project is an extensive and ambitious large-scale project that aims to solve many issues that centralization of cryptocurrencies and blockchains face.

In addition to being its own blockchain and coin, it is also tackling the decentralized exchange, atomic swap, and decentralized ICO space. It includes options for anonymity and has a unique proof of work consensus algorithm that promises enhanced security, even for new blockchains based off Komodo.

Needless to say, that’s a lot to bite off, but the Komodo team has shown itself to be up to the challenge time and again. In a world where deadlines are often missed by months, the Komodo team has not only delivered but also delivered early and with few bugs. The team also takes user feedback into consideration and has been known to pivot quickly based on the needs of the community.

If the Komodo team continues to deliver it could make a long-term lasting impact on the cryptocurrency space, but it is too early to tell if this will be the case. In any event, it is certainly a project worth watching.

In the roughly 18 months since this review was first prepared the Komodo team has continued to deliver an exceptional product, and with the July 2019 release of the Antara Framework, it has advanced to the first composable SmartChain platform in the industry. This first-mover advantage keeps Komodo on the cutting edge of blockchain development.

CCID Still Loves EOS, NANO Surges Through The Rankings

China’s Center for Information Industry Developed Research Institute’s monthly crypto rankings have always been viewed as an oddity, given that the CCID is controlled by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in a country notoriously scathing toward cryptocurrency.

But since President Xi Jinping’s recent address at the Politburo claiming that “We must take blockchain as an important breakthrough for independent innovation of core technologies. Clarify the main directions, increase investment, focus on a number of key technologies, and accelerate the development of blockchain and industrial innovation,” the rankings potentially warrant more respect.

With the Chinese government announcing its intention to be at the epicenter of blockchain technology development, cryptocurrency markets went into overdrive, with Bitcoin seeing over 30 percent gains within ten hours.

Whether the Chinese government actually warms to the decentralized cryptocurrencies its citizens have long been enamored of remains to be seen. In the meantime, the news was widely viewed as a positive sign for the markets.

Are the CCID Research Institute Rankings Suddenly Relevant Again? The newfound enthusiasm for blockchain in the CCP, also indicated in recent news of a pending state-run digital currency, drags the CCID’s rankings back into view. Its latest edition has just been released.

Assessed in terms of technology, applicability (capability of being applied to solve problems), and creativity (how unique the blockchain is in its approach to solving problems), EOS has consistently ranked first since the organization began publishing its rankings in May of 2018.

The 14th index shows some notable movements since its last report. TRON overtook Ethereum in second place, though only by the skin of its teeth. Lisk is up seven places to seventh and Qtum surged ten places to eighth.

Ontology is down seven places to fourteenth and Cosmos fell twelve places, from tenth to 22nd. GXChain fell precipitously, falling out of the top five in favor of BitShares. The top five now reads EOS, TRON, Ethereum, NULS, BitShares.

NANO on the Rise NANO enjoyed a rise from 22 to 13, finding a place back in the spotlight it lost during the early 2018 BitGrail debacle, from which it has since struggled to recover. As reported recently by Crypto Briefing, NANO is playing a substantial role in the ecosystem of Softbank-backed payments processor Wirex, an FCA-licensed company based in the U.K.

At a recent NANO meetup in London, Wirex’s CEO Pavel Matveev said the company was keen to continue its relationship with the crypto formerly known as RaiBlocks. A Wirex blog post also spared no compliments in describing Nano, calling it “a next-generation cryptocurrency with great potential.”

With an opaque ranking system, the CCID results will likely remain a curiosity for some time. However, the CCP’s apparent newfound fondness for blockchain technology means it is warranted for the community to put blatant skepticism over their rankings on hold for at least an interim period.
