New hands-on training center in Gary will help prepare the next generation of water industry professionals

Mrvan today previewed the new American Water Training Facility in Gary, a hands-on learning environment designed to strengthen workforce readiness, support operator training, and help prepare the next generation of skilled workers in the water industry.
Located at 650 Madison Street, the facility is expected to officially open this fall and represents a nearly $1.8 million investment in training, safety, and long-term operational excellence. Designed as an outdoor "mini-city," the training center provides a controlled environment where employees can practice real-world field scenarios before performing them in the community.
The training center will support instruction across production, field services, construction and future water applications. Training capabilities may include excavation, shoring, locating utility lines, traffic control, water main tapping, service line work, confined space procedures, meter installation, hydrant repair, and water main repair and replacement.

Customers in the Northern District depend on more than 100 groundwater wells that require ongoing maintenance, rehabilitation, and replacement to support long-term reliability and water supply.
The Well Rehabilitation Program includes upgrades at multiple well sites and will continue through December 2027. These efforts are intended to maintain groundwater production capacity and extend the life of essential water infrastructure.
As part of the program, California American Water recently began rehabilitation at the Auberry Well in Sacramento's Parkway water system. Built in 1989, the well is being cleaned, redeveloped, and tested to optimize performance and improve long-term reliability. Work at the site includes inspections, pump removal and reinstallation, well testing, and condition assessments to enhance overall performance.
"Regular well rehabilitation is an important part of maintaining a resilient and reliable water system," said Usmita Pokhrel, Senior Manager of Engineering at California American Water. "These investments help ensure our groundwater facilities continue operating efficiently, extend the life of critical infrastructure, and provide dependable service for our customers."
Well rehabilitation may involve video inspections, cleaning, redevelopment, pump testing, electrical modifications, and other improvements to restore groundwater production capacity. Additional upgrades may include chemical treatment, freeze protection, equipment upgrades, and piping improvements, both below and above ground.
California American Water coordinates rehabilitation activities to minimize customer impact and maintain reliable water service during construction. No service interruptions are expected as a result of this program.

The PUC authorized an annual revenue increase of approximately $74.9 million to support ongoing critical infrastructure improvements, including replacing aging infrastructure, expanding PFAS treatment, and continuing efforts to eliminate lead service lines. At the same time, the decision reflects a continued focus on affordability and customer assistance.
In supporting the Commission's decision, PUC Chairman Stephen M. Low-interest funding helps keep customer costs down while advancing water quality
, /PRNewswire/ -- The Shapiro administration yesterday announced that Pennsylvania American Water was awarded grants and low-interest loans from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) totaling $64,106,000. The funding will support water infrastructure improvement projects in Allegheny, Cumberland and Susquehanna counties.

A PENNVEST grant of $2,694,306 and loan of $6,205,694 will fund the replacement of approximately 575 identified lead and galvanized lead-impacted water service lines in Dormont Borough, Allegheny County. The removal of all leaded components will provide direct water quality improvements to customers and is consistent with regulatory and Pennsylvania American Water initiatives to eliminate lead-containing lines from the public water supply system. In Cumberland County, a PFAS project to construct a new per- and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS) treatment system at the company's Silver Spring Water Treatment Plant, which serves customers across 12 municipalities, received a PENNVEST grant of $2,447,879 and loan of $27,758,121. The proposed upgrades will install new granular activated carbon filter vessels designed to help ensure water meets U.S. Environmental Protection Agency PFAS regulations going into effect in 2029. It will also include additional pump, electrical, back-up power, security and stormwater improvements required as part of the new treatment system. The interest terms for the loan are 1.743% for the first five years and 2.179% for the remainder of the 20-year loan period.

Pennsylvania American Water's Susquehanna Water Treatment Plant construction project in Harmony Township received a $25,000,000 PENNVEST loan. Due to the significant age, ongoing maintenance requirements and concerns related to the structural integrity of the existing plant's facilities, a new water treatment plant will be constructed on nearby company property to serve the system's more than 4,200 customers. The interest terms for the loan are 1.00% for the first five years and 1.743% for the remainder of the 20-year loan period.

The projects were led and implemented by the Sonoma County Fire District, with financial contributions and coordination support from other local partners, including California American Water, local property owners, Sonoma County agencies, and other stakeholders. The work focused on reducing hazardous vegetation in areas surrounding water system facilities and nearby neighborhoods, helping improve community wildfire resilience.

, /PRNewswire/ -- Indiana American Water today announced construction of a new 1.5‑million‑gallon elevated water tank in the Innovation Mile in eastern portion of the City Noblesville, supporting the rapidly expanding area surrounding Hamilton Town Center. The project is part of a larger $15 million system investment that includes additional water storage, two booster-station upgrades, and three phases of new water mains—further demonstrating the company's commitment to strengthening water infrastructure and helping ensure reliable service for homes and businesses across the Noblesville distribution system.
Located on Olio Road near Noblesville Fire Station No. 77, the nearly 150‑foot‑tall structure features a concrete pedestal and steel tank designed to serve the region's long-term growth. Recently built, the tank proudly displays the Noblesville city brand on south side and Indiana American Water's logo on the other.
The combined tank, booster station, and water main improvements will increase storage capacity, enhance system reliability, improve water pressure, and bolster fire protection throughout the community.

, /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania American Water is encouraging customers throughout portions of its statewide service territory to voluntarily reduce their water consumption in response to the drought watch declaration expansion announced recently by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). While the company always encourages wise water use, Pennsylvania American Water is asking residents and businesses to voluntarily reduce their nonessential water use by 10-15% (a reduction of approximately 11-16 gallons per day) in accordance with DEP's guidance.
"We're asking our customers in affected areas to observe the DEP's request and be mindful of their nonessential water use during this drought watch," said Brandy Braun, director of water quality and environmental compliance for Pennsylvania American Water. "Our sources of supply are currently adequate to meet the needs of our customers, but we want to prepare for the potential for more severe conditions that could lead to stricter conservation measures in the future."
Of the 18 counties currently included in DEP's drought watch declaration, nine are within areas where Pennsylvania American Water provides water service. Those counties include Adams, Berks, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Northampton and York.
Following a meeting of the Commonwealth Drought Task Force on June 29, 2026, DEP worsened its declaration from Watch to Warning for four counties – Berks, Lancaster, Lebanon and Lehigh – based on public water supply levels and data related to four indicators: precipitation, surface water flow, groundwater level and soil moisture. The program will be hosted July 14-16 at American Water's headquarters on the Camden Waterfront and New Jersey American Water's Delaware River Regional Water Treatment Plant in Delran. Grants support American Red Cross and Food Bank of Northwest Indiana as Indiana American Water employees volunteer to assist impacted communities
, /PRNewswire/ -- The American Water Charitable Foundation, a philanthropic nonprofit organization established by American Water, has provided $30,000 in disaster relief support to assist Northwest Indiana communities recovering from late June severe storms and tornadoes. The support includes a $25,000 grant to the American Red Cross Northwest Chapter, Indiana Region and a $5,000 grant to the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana to help meet ongoing community needs.
"Right now, the need is great," said Dr. Sarah Moss, Executive Director of the Northwest Chapter of the American Red Cross Indiana Region. "The Red Cross has been on the ground in the community since the night the storms hit, providing shelter, meals, relief items, comfort and essential living needs to people who have been impacted. We are so appreciative of the American Water Charitable Foundation's support and partnership, and we know this contribution will be put to excellent use for people here in the community who need help."
The grants will help support organizations providing shelter, meals, relief supplies, food assistance and essential services to residents impacted by the storms. The American Water Charitable Foundation focuses on three pillars of giving: Water, People and Communities, and supports initiatives that improve communities served by American Water.
As of June 30, the Red Cross had provided more than 350 overnight shelter stays for 36 individuals, more than 2,600 meals and 3,316 relief items, impacting 800 homes in the community.
In addition to the charitable grants, Indiana American Water employees volunteered their time, equipment and expertise to support cleanup efforts in affected neighborhoods. Working with Lake County Emergency Management and other community partners, employees helped remove downed trees and limbs, clear debris and make roads passable for residents and emergency crews.
"A lot of people live and work in this community, and our employees were the first ones to step up and say we needed to do something," said Sam Mouratides, Superintendent of Operations for Northwest Indiana. "We are here to do everything we can to help get this area back together and get people back to normal life."
Many Indiana American Water team members live in the affected communities, have family in the area or saw the damage firsthand while continuing essential work to keep water and wastewater infrastructure operating through heavy rain and widespread power outages.

Request supports continued infrastructure investments in water and wastewater systems serving more than 1.7 million people in 30 counties
, /PRNewswire/ -- Missouri American Water today filed a request with the Missouri Public Service Commission (MoPSC) for new rates to support approximately $1.6 billion in water and wastewater system investments from June 2025 through May 2028. The request reinforces the company's commitment to implementing critical system upgrades and continuing to improve water quality and reliability for its more than 1.7 million people served statewide.
"We strategically plan and invest in our water and wastewater systems to help ensure they continue meeting the needs of our customers and communities," said Rich Svindland, President of Missouri American Water. "These investments strengthen service reliability and enhance water quality—from treatment to tap—while reflecting our employees' ongoing commitment to the health and safety of the communities we proudly serve."
The proposed rate change will support the company's continuing infrastructure investments from June 2025 to May 2028 to modernize and strengthen its water and wastewater systems in communities across Missouri. These investments will include the replacement of approximately 140 miles of aging water and wastewater pipeline, upgrading of storage tanks, wells, pumping stations, hydrants, meters and wastewater plants, as well as ongoing replacement of lead service lines and improvements to treatment facilities to address regulatory requirements, including PFAS and other contaminants of emerging concern.
Investments include:
St. Louis County: The relocation and replacement of the South Plant intake at a higher elevation mitigates flood risk, while raw water pump replacements, emergency power generation and replacement of aging pump components improve operating efficiency and reduce service disruptions during extreme weather. Jefferson City: Construction of a new filter and chemical feed building renews critical infrastructure past its useful life and enhances water quality and treatment efficiency. St. Joseph: Water treatment plant expansion including a new clarifier and filters, rehabilitation of treatment units and upgrades to chemical feed system improves service reliability, safety, and efficiency. Joplin: Construction of a new carbon feed system, well site treatment upgrades and filter backwash improvements will increase safety and help maintain consistent water quality and service reliability. Wastewater Treatment Investments: Treatment equipment upgrade, lift station construction and treatment enhancements will improve treatment reliability and efficiency, while helping to meet environmental compliance. If the company's proposed rates are approved as filed with the MoPSC today, the water bill for the average residential customer in St. Louis County using 5,900 gallons per month would increase by approximately $23 per month. The water bill for the average residential customer outside of St. Louis County using 4,500 gallons per month would increase by about $15 per month. The request updates residential wastewater rates to support continued investment with modest increases for lower usage customers and larger adjustments that help align higher-usage and unmetered customers with the cost of service.

Acquisition Adds 930 New Water Customers; $7 Million in Planned Infrastructure Investments

This former municipally owned system serves approximately 930 water customer connections and has been purchasing water from New Jersey American Water for a portion of the Borough's water supply since 2005. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities today approved the municipal consent, allowing New Jersey American Water to provide water service to Hopewell Borough customers as of the closing of the transaction.

Further improvement projects will be identified as New Jersey American Water continues its analysis of the system.

Indiana American Water and the American Water Charitable Foundation marked the investment with a ceremonial check presentation at Riverpalooza—Riverscape's signature community event celebrating the momentum, projects and partnerships transforming the Wabash River in Terre Haute. Over 300 community members came together for fun, food and fanfare to hear about riverfront development progress and plans.

"This site carries incredible history—from its role as a frontier outpost during the War of 1812 to early fur trading along the Wabash River—and our goal is to thoughtfully reinterpret that story in a way people can experience today," added Luke Waltz of Lowland Workshop, the landscape architecture and planning firm leading the project's design.

Over $28 Million Invested in Infrastructure and $766,000 in Community Program Support
, /PRNewswire/ -- This week marks two years since New Jersey American Water acquired the Salem City water and wastewater systems on June 25, 2024. Over the past two years, the company has made significant progress in infrastructure improvements with over $28 million invested in system upgrades and an additional $48 million planned over the next five years to further modernize infrastructure and strengthen service reliability for residents.

Since assuming ownership, New Jersey American Water has accelerated critical infrastructure improvements across Salem City's water and wastewater systems. Even small leaks can waste thousands of gallons of water each year. Ten percent of homes have leaks that can waste 90 gallons or more per day. Funding available for reusable water bottle filling stations in Illinois American Water's service areas
, /PRNewswire/ -- In recognition of National Hydration Day, the American Water Charitable Foundation, a philanthropic non-profit organization established by American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., along with Illinois American Water, announced today it is now accepting applications for its 2026 Hydration Station Grant Program from eligible organizations within its service areas.
This initiative aims to boost confidence and trust in tap water while reducing single-use plastic waste by providing sustainable hydration options in public spaces. The announcement on National Hydration Day underscores the importance of healthy hydration habits and highlights the role safe, reliable tap water plays in supporting community health and wellbeing.

Selected recipients will receive funding to purchase reusable water bottle filling stations, enhancing public access to sustainable water sources. Eligible applicants must be a 501(c)(3) organization, K-12 public school, college or university located within Illinois American Water's service territory and be open to the public. Funding for the Hydration Station Grant Program will be provided by the American Water Charitable Foundation, as part of its State Strategic Impact Grant Program, focused on high-impact projects and initiatives throughout American Water's national footprint. State Strategic Impact grants are part of the Foundation's Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, focused on three pillars of giving: Water, People and Communities.

Projects include upgrading water main along a portion of Greenup Road/Highway 845 between 3735 Greenup Road and the intersection of Lucas Lane, replacing three miles of aging water main along US 127 between Industrial Park Road and Jonesville Road, and installing a new booster pump station at the Owen County Fairgrounds. All projects are now underway.
The Greenup Road/Highway 845 project includes replacing 5,263 feet of aging 6-inch-diameter PVC water main installed in the early 1970s with new 6‑inch-diameter ductile iron water main. The US 127 project will replace more than three miles of aging 6-inch-diameter water with
8-inch-diameter ductile iron pipe. The new booster pump station will support increased water supply for customers north of Owenton.
