Apple News Roundup Here are the key news stories impacting Apple this week:

Positive Sentiment: Incoming CEO John Ternus is expected to reassess Apple’s research-and-development budget and potentially increase spending on AI. Analysts see stronger investment in Siri and other AI products as a way to close the gap with technology rivals. Apple Could Get a New R&D and AI Budget Positive Sentiment: Potential product catalysts include an AI-enhanced Siri expected later this year, camera-equipped AI AirPods targeted for 2027 and a foldable iPhone that one analyst estimates could sell 14 million units by 2027. Successful launches could support a major upgrade cycle. Apple Wants to Pay Publishers to Improve Siri Positive Sentiment: Walmart’s nationwide rollout of contactless payments will add Apple Pay acceptance across its U.S. stores, websites and apps. The move expands Apple Pay’s reach and strengthens Apple’s services ecosystem. Walmart Adds Apple Pay Nationwide Neutral Sentiment: Options activity showed a modestly bullish bias, with calls outnumbering puts, while implied volatility remained below its 52-week median. However, the signal was not strong enough to establish a decisive near-term direction. Apple Options Sentiment Neutral Sentiment: Apple’s leadership change on September 1 is creating both opportunity and uncertainty. Bank of America maintains a Buy view but says Ternus must deliver more surprising products and technologies because the company has become increasingly predictable. Apple Must Relearn How to Surprise Negative Sentiment: Apple reportedly cut more than 200 positions tied to Siri and the Vision Pro headset while redirecting resources toward future devices. The restructuring may improve efficiency, but it also highlights execution challenges in AI and spatial computing. Negative Sentiment: Analysts have warned that Apple’s insulation from macroeconomic and competitive headwinds is fading. With shares trading at a high earnings multiple, investors may be less tolerant of slower growth, regulatory pressure and delays in AI products. Apple’s Immunity to Headwinds Is Fading Negative Sentiment: Reports that Apple is quietly shifting attention toward China add geopolitical and demand risk, while its substantial tax settlement and filings highlighting large profits routed through Ireland could renew regulatory scrutiny. Negative Sentiment: Senior Vice President Jennifer Newstead sold 1,439 shares under a prearranged Rule 10b5-1 plan. The transaction is relatively small and does not necessarily signal a change in fundamentals, but it provides a modest negative headline. About Apple (Free Report)

Apple Cut Its Standard EU App Store Commission From 30% to 26%
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
On Tuesday, Aug. 18, Apple (AAPL -0.63%) announced new business terms for apps in the European Union, cutting its standard App Store commission from 30% to 26% and replacing its most contested fee with a simple 5% commission. Developers can sign the new terms now, and the changes take effect Oct. 1.

The company said the changes follow "close collaboration with the European Commission" and "resolve Apple's disagreements with the Commission over business terms and alternative distribution."

That last part is the news that matters for shareholders. The lower rates will leave more revenue with EU developers. But for Apple, the bigger event is the defusing of a regulatory fight that had already produced a 500 million euro fine and threatened more. Here's a look at the new rates -- and how much money is actually at stake.

The new rate cardThe standard commission on EU App Store sales drops to 26%, from 30%. Apps using alternative payment processing pay 20%, and apps that link out to the web to complete purchases pay 15% on sales made within seven days of the tap. Members of Apple's Small Business Program, along with its Mini Apps and Video Partner programs, pay 15%, as do auto-renewing subscriptions after their first year. Those eligible apps pay 10% when they use alternative payments or link-outs.

The bigger structural change is the Core Technology Commission. Apps distributed outside the App Store (through rival marketplaces or the web) now pay a flat 5% commission on digital sales. That replaces the per-install Core Technology Fee -- the charge developers and regulators had contested most fiercely. The new terms also eliminate two other charges (an initial acquisition fee and a store services fee), and for the first time in the EU, developers can offer Apple's own payment system alongside alternatives in the same app.

In short, the fee sheet got shorter and cheaper. And that is what Brussels wanted.

The fight this defusesThe Digital Markets Act has been the tech giant's noisiest regulatory problem for two years. In April 2025, the European Commission fined the company 500 million euros (about $579 million) for preventing developers from steering customers to cheaper offers outside the App Store, and escalating penalties remained possible as the compliance arguments dragged on.

On Tuesday, the two sides stepped back from the fight. "The Commission welcomes Apple's changes to their business terms," the EU executive said in a statement, adding that it will monitor how the new terms are implemented.

Of course, a welcome is not a closed case, and the Digital Markets Act doesn't go away. But a dispute with a regulator that fines in the hundreds of millions has gone quiet -- Apple says its disagreements are resolved, and the Commission says it will watch how the new terms work in practice. That changes the risk attached to Apple's highest-margin segment.

Sizing the hitNow for the money. Apple's services segment produced $30.7 billion of revenue in the fiscal third quarter of 2026 (the period ended June 27), up 12% year over year and a record for the June period. Growth cooled a bit from the fiscal second quarter's 16% pace, but even the slower rate adds more than $13 billion of new services revenue a year to a business already running at an annual pace above $120 billion.

The App Store sits alongside everything from iCloud storage to Apple TV inside that segment, and the EU slice of it is smaller still. Asked about earlier European changes on a 2024 earnings call, Apple's then-chief financial officer Luca Maestri said the EU market "represents roughly 7% of our global app store revenue."

Set those figures side by side, and the four-point cut shrinks quickly. It applies only to the standard tier (small developers and second-year subscriptions already sit at 15%), and only in a region generating about 7% of App Store revenue. Even assuming every EU transaction took the full four-point cut, the hit would be a sliver of a services business growing 12% a year -- and a rounding error against the $29.8 billion of net income Apple earned last quarter. And that's the worst case. The real hit would likely be smaller.

So where does that leave the stock?

Shares trade around $311 as of this writing, about 10% below their record high. I'd argue Tuesday's announcement nudges the investment case in Apple's favor, if anything, because the stock's valuation was never resting on four points of EU commission. What Apple bought this week is a quieter fight and a simpler fee structure, in a region the company had already sized as a small piece of the App Store. The services business keeps growing either way.

Apple cutting hundreds more jobs in shift toward AI
AAPL Apple

Apple is cutting more than 200 jobs as the tech giant sharpens its focus on AI and updates its Siri digital assistant.

Roughly 100 of the eliminated positions are tied to the Vision Pro team.

Another 100 hit groups working on Siri and the Intelligent Systems Experience team, the division focused on bringing generative AI features into Apple devices.

This software reshuffle comes as Apple eliminates legacy engineering roles to clear room for specialists who can rebuild Siri on an entirely new generative AI architecture.

Apple is cutting more than 200 jobs. Future Publishing via Getty Images Apple confirmed the cuts, saying it was “looking to evolve our business to deliver the best experiences for our users.”

“While we will create new roles as part of this change, it will also impact a limited number of existing roles,” the company said.

Siri has lagged behind OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google Gemini for years, particularly when it comes to remembering what users were talking about and handling follow-up questions naturally.

Apple long-planned upgrade to the Siri virtual assistant has run into snags during testing. Bloomberg via Getty Images Siri has historically responded with a basic web link instead of actually answering the question.

The company’s revamped “Siri AI” in the public beta of iOS 18 has narrowed the functional gap by focusing on integration across its ecosystem.

Meanwhile, Vision Pro has become one of Apple’s biggest commercial disappointments.

Apple releases iOS 26.6.1 on an iPhone in Taichung, Taiwan, on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026. (Represented by ZUMA Press, Inc.) ZUMAPRESS.com The headset features industry-leading micro-OLED displays and precise eye-tracking, but consumers haven’t embraced it.

Apple never released official sales figures, but estimated global sales fell to just 45,000 units in the final quarter of 2025.

In response, Apple is trimming its Vision Pro operations while shifting resources toward newer AI efforts and devices.

Apple’s Vision Pro has become one of Apple’s biggest commercial disappointments. Apple The company is also dealing with higher production costs as an AI-driven memory shortage pushes up expenses.

Apple raised prices on its Macs and iPads earlier this summer and recently introduced a leasing plan covering its major hardware products as it looks to bring in more customers while offsetting those costs.

Apple Announced Its Largest-Ever Stock Buyback Under Tim Cook's Leadership. Here's Why the Size of the Repurchase Program Matters for Shareholders.
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
When Tim Cook became CEO of Apple (AAPL -0.63%) in 2011, one of his biggest strategic shifts was returning capital to shareholders. He reinstated the company's dividend in 2012 and, more importantly, launched a massive stock buyback program.

Apple has spent more than any other company on stock buybacks over the last 10 years, according to research by The Motley Fool. Here's a closer look at how much it has spent and why this benefits shareholders.

Apple's stock buybacks during Tim Cook's tenure Cook has been part of multiple record-breaking share buybacks while CEO of Apple. Near the beginning of his tenure, the board authorized a $10 billion buyback for its fiscal 2013, but later raised that to $60 billion, the largest single share-repurchase authorization in history. It authorized repurchases of $100 billion in 2018 and $110 billion in 2024, with the latter still being its largest-ever buyback. In 2025 and 2026, it authorized $100 billion in buybacks.

A buyback authorization only means a company can spend up to that amount, not that it will. Apple normally uses most of it, though, and has bought back a whopping $877 billion in shares under Cook's leadership.

A (mostly) positive move for Apple shareholders After Apple buys back shares, it retires them. With fewer shares in circulation, every shareholder owns a larger slice of the company. Over a quarter or even a year, this is a relatively minor change. At Apple's market cap of $4.6 trillion (as of Aug. 19), a $100 billion repurchase authorization means buying back a little over 2% of the company.

But for a long-term investor, it makes a significant difference. Case in point, when Cook took over, Apple had about 26 billion split-adjusted outstanding shares. It reported 14.6 billion outstanding shares as of July 2026, so the share count has fallen by about 44%. A share purchased at the start of Cook's tenure now owns nearly 80% more than it did then.

Today's Change

(

-0.63

%) $

-1.95

Current Price

The caveat here is that Apple's valuation has risen significantly since the early days of its buyback program. It traded between 12 and 18 times earnings for much of the 2010s. It trades at 36 times trailing earnings as of this writing, while Apple and other top tech stocks have seen considerable price appreciation. Buying back shares at a higher valuation means less added value for shareholders.

Apple's repurchase program was a major tailwind for most of Cook's tenure. However, John Ternus will become the company's new CEO on Sept. 1, 2026, and the leadership transition could also signal a shift in strategy. Buybacks will remain part of Apple's approach, but the company may divert some of that capital to research and development or building through acquisitions. Given Apple's somewhat expensive valuation, either could prove a better growth driver than buying back shares.

Apple Falls as Leadership Questions Deepen Its AI Dilemma
AAPL Apple

Apple
AAPL -0.63% 96

, the consumer-technology giant behind the iPhone, slipped approximately 0.2% to $310.60 Friday morning as investors wrestled with one big question: Will Apple's next chief executive finally hit the accelerator on artificial intelligence? The stock trailed a rising market, yet the company still carried a towering market value of roughly $4.58 trillion. Expectations remain sky-high.

Apple has refused to copy the hyperscalers' data-center spending frenzy. Its playbook is leaner: use outside partners, push more processing onto devices and weaponize an installed base measured in billions. The engine is hardly sputtering. Fiscal third-quarter revenue jumped 16% to $109.4 billion, while earnings surged 29% to $2.02 per share. But supply constraints and a slower AI rollout are creating doubt. Discipline can protect profits. It can also become hesitation.

The chart makes the pressure obvious. At $310.60, Apple trades 9.44% above its GF Value™ estimate of $283.81 and at roughly 35 times trailing earnings. That premium demands more than promises. Spend aggressively on AI, and margins could take a hit. Stay cautious, and Apple risks becoming increasingly dependent on outside models and chip suppliers. Friday's dip was modest. The warning was not: Wall Street wants Apple's AI advantage to show up in products, growth and profits.

Prediction: Apple Is Quietly Setting Up for a Huge 2026
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL | AAPL Price Prediction) has spent 2026 quietly reclaiming its narrative. Three consecutive quarters of roughly 16% revenue growth, a genuine iPhone supercycle, and the WWDC26 debut of a rebuilt Siri AI have flipped the story from AI laggard to steady compounder. Our proprietary model sees more room to run.

Apple trades near $317 as of August 20, 2026. Our 24/7 Wall St. price target is $363.69, implying 14.86% upside over the next 12 months. The recommendation is buy, with confidence at 90%.

Metric Value Current Price $317 24/7 Wall St. Price Target $363.69 Upside 14.86% Recommendation BUY Confidence 90% Reacceleration Is Already Showing Up in the Numbers AAPL is up 16.86% YTD and 37.93% over the past year, though shares have cooled 2.9% in the last month from a 52-week high of $344.27.

Fiscal Q3 2026 revenue hit $109.42 billion (up 16.36%), with EPS of $2.02 beating the $1.8914 estimate. iPhone generated $54.25 billion and Services set a fresh record at $30.74 billion. That marks Apple’s ninth consecutive EPS beat.

Tim Cook called it “strongest June quarter ever, with double-digit revenue growth across iPhone, Mac and Services, and in every geographic segment.” Recent 24/7 Wall St. coverage has flagged Apple as entering its most important product cycle in years, though memory-chip supply and tariff exposure remain live debates.

Why Bulls See a Breakout Ahead The bull scenario carries AAPL to $379.52, a 19.86% return. Drivers include iPhone growth of 22% year-to-date, Mac up 29%, and a Services engine processing over $1.5 billion in paid subscriptions. Cook flagged Siri AI as “a completely reimagined version of Siri that is profoundly capable, deeply personal, and integrated seamlessly across our platforms.”

Polymarket traders put odds of an iPhone 18 launch in 2026 at 98.6% and a foldable iPhone at 84.5%. September-quarter guidance calls for 9% to 11% revenue growth despite supply constraints, meaning demand outpaces capacity.

What Could Go Wrong The bear case lands at $315.03, essentially flat. Memory pricing is Apple’s biggest headwind. Cook described it as “a 100-year flood on the memory pricing with exponential increases in memory prices.”

Q3 gross margin of 50.1% included a roughly 2 percentage point tariff-refund tailwind and a $0.11 EPS benefit that will not repeat. Insider net direction is selling, and the trailing P/E of 36 leaves little cushion. Higher costs partly reflect deliberate R&D expansion to $11.73 billion to fund the AI stack.

How Apple Compares to Microsoft and Alphabet Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) offers the cleanest valuation contrast. MSFT trades at a materially lower trailing multiple than Apple with a cloud-driven operating margin profile. Apple’s 36 P/E looks rich against Microsoft’s cloud-driven multiple, suggesting our $363.69 target is conservative.

Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is the growth counterpoint. Its top-line growth has been running well ahead of Apple’s, with Google Cloud accelerating sharply. Apple’s mid-teens growth is slower, reinforcing that our target relies on multiple stability. The peer set makes $363.69 look reasonable.

Apple Price Prediction 2026 to 2030 The 24/7 Wall St. price target is $363.69, the model recommendation is buy, and confidence is 90%. Reacceleration, Siri AI, and a demand-constrained supply chain tip the scale.

A pullback toward $300 would be worth watching if memory costs stabilize. September gross margin guidance of 47% to 48% is the key line to monitor into December.

Year 24/7 Wall St. Price Target 2026 $334.63 2027 $360.69 2028 $412.05 2029 $446.78 2030 $474.41 These projections assume Apple continues executing on Services expansion and the Siri AI rollout. Significant upside or downside could come from memory-cost normalization, EU regulation of Apple Intelligence, or a foldable iPhone launch reshaping the product mix.

Apple must relearn how to surprise under new CEO Ternus, says BofA
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL, XETRA:APC)'s real test under incoming CEO John Ternus will be restoring a sense of technological surprise to a company too large for incremental excellence alone to redefine it, according to analysts at Bank of America.

The bank made the observation in a research note reiterating its Buy rating on Apple ahead of Ternus's transition to CEO on September 1. BofA said it expects much of Apple's core business to remain unchanged under Ternus, pointing to strong capital returns, potential leadership in AI at the edge, and optionality from new products and markets as reasons behind its rating.

BofA credited Cook with building roughly $4.5 trillion in market capitalization over nearly 15 years, a pace it calculated at about $32 million per hour, by growing Apple's installed base of devices and monetizing it through services such as Apple Pay, the App Store, Apple Music and Apple TV+.

The bank said Apple's next era will likely move away from the cloud-services model that enabled apps like Uber and Maps, toward one where devices themselves carry AI functionality and drive productivity. Wearables such as glasses, rings and AirPods with cameras, smart home automation, and virtual and physical personal assistants, including robotics, were cited as potential areas of expansion.

BofA also flagged Apple's departure from a net cash neutral objective as a signal the company could increase spending on research and development, capital expenditure and mergers and acquisitions, areas not emphasized under Cook but that the pace of AI innovation may now demand.

Tech StocksWall Street is hoping that John Ternus will shift Apple’s AI strategy by spending more, pursuing larger mergers and doubling down on innovation

Big changes are coming to Apple in September, when Tim Cook will step down as CEO and will be replaced by hardware chief John Ternus.

While Cook has grown Apple AAPL into the world’s second-largest company by market capitalization, Wall Street expect Ternus to follow a different playbook for the artificial-intelligence era — one that focuses on more product innovation.

Prediction: Apple Is Entering Its Most Important Product Cycle in Years
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News

My 24/7 Wall St. price target for Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL | AAPL Price Prediction) is $358.69, roughly 15.69% above the $310.03 close on August 18. The model output carries 90% confidence.

Apple is entering the most consequential product cycle in years, with the iPhone 17 family, iPhone Air, MacBook Neo, M5 silicon, and the Siri AI unveil at WWDC26 converging into one story.

24/7 Wall St. Price Target Summary Metric Value Current Price $310.03 24/7 Wall St. Price Target $358.69 Upside 15.69% Recommendation BUY Confidence Level 90% A Product Cycle Meeting a Recovering Market Apple is up 14.35% year to date and 34.77% over the past year, though shares have cooled 7.02% in the last month from a July peak. The stock sits about 6% below its $344.27 52-week high and well above the $222.96 low.

Fiscal Q3 2026, reported July 30, delivered EPS of $2.02 against a $1.89 consensus, the ninth straight beat, on revenue of $109.4 billion, up 16% YoY. iPhone jumped 22% to $54.3 billion and Mac grew 29%. Tim Cook called it “our strongest June quarter ever, with double-digit revenue growth across iPhone, Mac and Services, and in every geographic segment.”

The Case for $374 and Higher Our bull scenario puts Apple at $374.19 in a year. The catalyst stack is unusually deep. Cook told analysts “This is the most powerful and most popular iPhone lineup we’ve ever had”, and Q3 upgraders hit a record.

Siri AI, the $30 billion Broadcom silicon deal, and Mac’s 29% growth all point higher. Analyst sentiment is 61% bullish with 22 Buy and 6 Strong Buy ratings against just 2 Strong Sell calls.

What Could Go Wrong The bear path lands near $311.28, essentially flat. Cook flagged a “100-year flood on the memory pricing with exponential increases” and said Apple is “scrambling on the supply side” into the September quarter. September gross margin guidance of 47% to 48% already assumes a 1 percentage point tariff refund benefit that will not repeat.

Reddit is also debating whether gains are “priced in”. Bulls counter that $11.73 billion in Q3 R&D and the Broadcom deal are investments in the next cycle.

How Apple Compares to Microsoft and Alphabet Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) is the cleanest AI valuation contrast. Apple trades at a forward P/E of 32, and Microsoft typically trades at a similar multiple with faster enterprise AI revenue growth, which makes our $358.69 target look reasonable rather than stretched.

Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is the capex counterpoint retail investors love: Apple’s capex sits near 1.8% of revenue versus Alphabet’s 37.5%. That efficiency, paired with Apple’s 46.9% gross margin, argues Apple deserves a premium multiple rather than a discount.

Apple Price Prediction 2026-2030 At $310.03, the setup screens constructively against my 24/7 Wall St. price target of $358.69. The tipping factor is the concentration of catalysts: Siri AI, iPhone 17 momentum, Mac’s 29% growth, and a mid-cycle setup ahead of iPhone 18.

The thesis weakens if September gross margin lands below 47% or if memory inflation pushes product margins meaningfully lower into calendar 2027.

Year 24/7 Wall St. Price Target 2026 $358.69 2027 $395 2028 $430 2029 $465 2030 $496.62 These projections assume Apple executes on Siri AI, iPhone 18, and its US manufacturing buildout. Meaningful upside or downside could come from memory pricing normalization, China demand, or regulatory outcomes in the EU.

Inside India newsletter: Chip squeeze hits Chinese smartphones in India as Apple, Samsung gain an edge
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News

Hello, this is Priyanka Salve, writing to you from Singapore.

Welcome to the latest edition of "Inside India" — your one-stop destination for stories and developments from the world's fastest-growing large economy.

Chinese brands dominate the Indian smartphone market, claiming four out of the top five spots, as their low-priced and feature-rich phones appeal to the cost-conscious Indian consumer.

But as memory prices surge and Chinese phone-makers pass on those costs, customers are beginning to gravitate toward premium brands such as Samsung and Apple, as financing options improve affordability.

Any thoughts on today's newsletter? Share them with the team.

The big storyRising memory chip costs are having a contrasting effect on the fortunes of budget Chinese brands and mid-market and premium American and South Korean smartphone companies in India, the world's second-largest market by volume.

It is the end of the sub-$150 smartphones, experts told CNBC, adding that after the current inventory is exhausted, newer launches with similar features in this category will have to be priced much higher to account for the rising memory costs.

Newer Chinese phone models in India could cost anywhere between $200 and $250 compared to under $150 earlier, according to Neil Shah, co-founder at Counterpoint Research. As per the market intelligence firm's data, brands in the sub-$150 category have already raised smartphone prices by up to 40%.

Chinese smartphone companies dominate the budget segment with their feature-rich products. But it has become nearly impossible for these companies to maintain affordability while absorbing the rising costs of memory chips.

Higher prices diminish the value-for-money proposition of Chinese smartphones among Indian consumers, but at the same time, it increases the appeal of mid-price and premium handset brands like Samsung and Apple for consumers, Shah said.

Market data intelligence company IDC reported last week that smartphone shipments in the first half of 2026 in India dropped to 64.2 million units, with the entry-level tier seeing a steep decline. While sales volume fell 7.9% year on year, in terms of value they grew 3.6% as average selling price hit a record of $315.

Sales of Chinese smartphone companies, in particular, fell sharply as they struggled to convince "price-sensitive buyers" of their "higher price tags," IDC said in its report. Meanwhile, iPhone 17 remained the top-shipped device consecutively for the first two quarters of 2026, it said.

In the June quarter, smartphone shipments of Vivo fell 13.9%, Oppo declined 8.5%, Xiaomi dropped 10%, and Realme crashed 14.2% from a year ago, as per IDC. Among all major Chinese brands, OnePlus, which serves the higher-end category, reported the lowest decline of 2.5% year on year.

Upasana Joshi, senior research manager, devices research, IDC Asia Pacific, told CNBC that the global memory chip shortage had pushed prices up and "hit entry-level demand hardest, the segment Chinese brands rely on most."

Chinese brands all saw steep declines, Joshi said, adding that Samsung and Apple were the only major names "to hold steady and gain share." Samsung and Apple's shipments during the June-quarter rose 0.4% and 0.7%, as per IDC.

Chip shortageDuring the quarter ended June, the gap between India's leading smartphone seller Vivo and the second player, Samsung, narrowed.

While Samsung's market share increased by nearly 200 basis points, Apple's rose 100 basis points in the June quarter. Vivo's market share fell by 60 basis points during the same period, according to IDC, and by 140 basis points, according to estimates from Counterpoint Research.

Samsung, which has a wide portfolio of smartphones in India ranging from $200 to upwards of $800, has been going head-to-head with Vivo in the $200-$300 price segment, according to experts.

While the South Korean company has access to in-house supply of memory chips, Vivo and many other Chinese firms have relied on chips from MediaTek, SK Hynix and Samsung, said Shah of Counterpoint Research.

When the prices of memory chips started rising last year, many Chinese smartphone companies shifted to chips made by UNISOC and CXMT, which helped them protect their market share for a while, Shah said, but added that this arrangement was not sustainable.

CXMT recently raised funds to expand its capacity to serve the AI and data center market in China, diverting resources towards high-end products, he said.

According to Counterpoint Research, prices of memory chips have increased 4 times since September 2025 and are expected to rise further in the coming months.

As smartphone prices rise to account for higher memory costs, experts believe the once price-sensitive Indian market could shift toward premium products, especially as budget phones become expensive and financing options make high-priced handsets affordable.

And yet a growing chorus of skeptics is fixated on a single, awkward question those glittering numbers cannot drown out. Why is the most valuable company on the planet apparently content to rent its AI from a rival, rather than build its own?

It's a fair question, and one that cuts to the heart of the bear case. Apple is reportedly paying Alphabet Inc. NASDAQ: GOOGL around $1 billion a year for its Gemini model to power a revamped Siri, and to some investors, that looks like an admission it has fallen behind in the most important technology race of the decade.

Get Apple alerts:

The weakness in Apple’s shares, which are down around 10% since last month’s earnings report, reflects a market that isn't entirely sure what to make of it all. So is Apple's cautious approach to AI the one true crack in an otherwise formidable story, or are the doubters missing the point entirely?

Apple Inc. (AAPL) Price Chart for Wednesday, August, 19, 2026

The Case That Apple Is Falling BehindThe worry is simple to grasp. In an age where AI is becoming the defining feature of consumer technology, Apple, uniquely among its big-tech peers, has not built a powerful AI model of its own. Instead, it’s chosen to license one from Google, quite a change for a company that historically prides itself on controlling every layer of its products.

For the skeptics, this points to a deeper vulnerability. Apple's whole reputation rests on seamless, best-in-class experiences, so leaning on another firm's technology for such a crucial feature risks ceding both control and differentiation. If the same company behind Android ultimately powers the AI on an iPhone, the argument runs, what exactly is the premium price of the iPhone buying?

There's a further wrinkle, too. Apple has said little about how it plans to actually make money from its new AI features, presenting them mainly as another reason to upgrade to a newer iPhone. In a world where consumers are increasingly paying monthly for standalone AI services like Claude and ChatGPT, that vagueness leaves an uncomfortable gap where a clear AI-monetization strategy ought to be.

Why the Bulls Are UnmovedAgainst this, optimists make a compelling counterargument that hinges on reframing what Apple is. In their eyes, Apple doesn't need to win the race to build the best AI model. It just needs to remain the place where more than two billion people access whatever AI eventually wins.

This is the crux of the bull case. Rather than burning tens of billions competing with the hyperscalers to build AI infrastructure, Apple can act as the gateway through which the best models reach consumers. In other words, whichever model comes out on top, it will still be accessible on the iPhone, and Apple will happily take its cut as the toll booth.

Crucially, this plays to Apple's greatest financial strength. By declining to enter the ruinously expensive infrastructure arms race, the company keeps its enormous cash flows intact, funding the vast buybacks shareholders have come to love. It's a strategy of discipline rather than fear, the bulls contend, and possibly a shrewder one than the market currently appreciates.

The Services Question That Underpins It AllBeneath the rent-versus-build debate lies another point to consider, and that’s the health of Apple's lucrative Services business. This division, which includes the App Store and a growing roster of subscriptions, has become the jewel in Apple's crown, generating record revenue at margins nearly double those of its hardware.

Herein lies the real risk AI poses. Should consumers increasingly pay for AI services directly, bypassing the App Store to subscribe through a browser instead, Apple could find itself cut out of the very transactions it hopes to profit from. That would strike at the heart of the high-margin Services engine the whole investment case increasingly depends upon.

For now, this remains a longer-term possibility rather than an immediate threat, and Apple's ecosystem has proven remarkably sticky. But it goes a long way to explaining why the AI question is being discussed so much right now.

Where This Leaves Apple NowWeighing it all up, both camps have a point. The bears are right that Apple looks uncharacteristically hesitant to embrace AI, with real questions hanging over its differentiation and its plans to monetize the technology. The bulls are right that Apple's unrivaled distribution and financial firepower give it the luxury of letting others do the expensive pioneering first.

Perhaps the fairest conclusion is that Apple's AI strategy is a real risk worth watching, but not yet the fatal flaw its harshest critics suggest. The company has been underestimated many times before, and its knack for arriving late to a market only to dominate it is well-documented. Whether it can pull off the trick again with AI is, for the foreseeable future at least, the thing worth watching for.

Apple Is The Most Underappreciated AI Mega-Cap, Analyst Says

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) stock gained almost 3% on Wednesday as buyers lean into large-cap strength despite a softer tape in Technology. The Nasdaq is up 0.13% while the S&P 500 has gained 0.53%, even as the Technology sector is down 0.6%.

The Big Tech giant is balancing regulatory changes in Europe, shifting investor enthusiasm around artificial intelligence and rising hardware costs as investors weigh near-term pressures against the company’s potential to build a stronger personalized AI business.

Apple Overhauls EU App Store TermsApple agreed to change its European App Store policies to address its dispute with EU regulators. Starting Oct. 1, the company will replace its Core Technology Fee with a 5% commission on digital transactions made outside the App Store, lower its standard European in-app purchase commission to 26% and allow developers to offer alternative payment options.

AI Rotation Pressures Apple SharesApple shares have fallen roughly 10% since reaching a record on July 28 as investors shifted back toward companies more directly exposed to AI infrastructure spending.

Russell Investments senior portfolio manager Jordan McCall told Bloomberg that renewed confidence in AI capital spending has encouraged that rotation.

Prime Capital Financial portfolio manager Clayton Allison said Apple benefited when investors questioned heavy AI spending, but its limited infrastructure investment now gives it less exposure to the renewed AI rally. Allison still favors Apple’s balance sheet, ecosystem and share buybacks.

Jefferies analyst Edison Lee remains more cautious, pointing to higher memory costs and the risk that an expensive foldable iPhone could attract only a niche audience.

Munster Sees Siri as Apple’s AI OpeningDeepwater Asset Management Managing Partner Gene Munster told CNBC that he views Apple as an underappreciated AI opportunity. He believes the company’s more conservative approach to AI and stronger safeguards could differentiate it from more aggressive competitors.

He called Apple “one of the biggest underappreciated companies” among mega-caps, saying the company has “finally got it right” with Siri and could see its shares “re-rated” as the assistant becomes a foundation for personalized AI.

Munster said his testing of the Siri beta convinced him that Apple has made meaningful progress. Deepwater research shows fewer than 20% of U.S. iPhone owners use Siri daily, giving Apple significant room to expand adoption.

Munster believes Siri could become the foundation of Apple’s personalized AI strategy. He expects Apple’s valuation multiple to rise meaningfully over the next year as investors gain more confidence in its AI direction, even if earnings growth improves only modestly.

Apple trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of about 35.6, reflecting a premium valuation. The stock carries a Buy consensus rating with an average price forecast of $329.53.

Jefferies downgraded Apple to Underperform on Aug. 10 and lowered its price forecast to $263.66. China Renaissance downgraded the stock to Hold on Aug. 4 with a $280 price forecast. JPMorgan maintained an Overweight rating on July 31 but lowered its price forecast to $340.

Why Apple Is the Blueprint for SK Hynix's AI Cash Mountain
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
For years, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) showed that a technology company could keep investing for growth while returning enormous amounts of cash to shareholders. Now, SK hynix Inc. (NASDAQ:SKHY) appears to be following a similar playbook.

Its record 40 trillion won ($28.6 billion) share buyback isn’t just a response to a falling stock price—it signals a broader shift in how the AI memory leader intends to deploy the cash generated by the industry’s biggest boom in years.

Apple’s Capital Return Strategy Is Becoming SK Hynix’s BlueprintSK Hynix announced plans to repurchase and cancel 24.07 million shares over the next three months while raising its shareholder return commitment to more than 50% of cumulative free cash flow generated between 2025 and 2027. The company also said future returns could include both fixed and special dividends.

The announcement follows weeks of investor pressure.

Earlier this month, Reuters reported that shareholders were urging both SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd (OTC:SSNLF) to return more of their AI-driven cash windfalls through buybacks and dividends. Investors argued that sitting on massive cash balances risked reinforcing concerns that today’s AI profits may prove cyclical rather than durable.

Apple emerged repeatedly as the benchmark.

In the Reuters analysis, investors pointed to Apple’s capital allocation strategy as an example of how a cash-rich technology company can reward shareholders while continuing to invest heavily in future growth.

Apple launched a landmark capital return program in 2013 that combined steadily expanding buybacks with growing dividends, helping establish shareholder returns as a core part of its investment case.

The AI Memory Boom Has Created an Apple-Like Cash MachineThe comparison isn’t about products—it’s about cash generation.

SK Hynix ended the second quarter with approximately 69 trillion won in net cash, fueled by surging demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips used in AI accelerators. At the same time, the company continues investing aggressively in manufacturing capacity to support long-term AI demand.

Despite those investments, management believes it has room to return substantially more capital.

In announcing the buyback, SK Hynix said its current share price does not fully reflect the company’s “business competitiveness, robust cash generation capability, and mid-to-long-term growth potential.”

That language echoes the philosophy behind Apple’s long-running capital return strategy: confidence that future cash flows will remain strong enough to fund innovation while shrinking the share count.

That comparison is our inference. SK Hynix has not said it is modeling its strategy after Apple.

Why This Matters Beyond the BuybackThe record repurchase may prove to be only the beginning.

Beyond authorizing South Korea’s largest-ever treasury share cancellation, SK Hynix also changed its capital allocation framework by increasing its shareholder return target from “within 50%” of cumulative free cash flow to “over 50%”. Analysts see the move as a signal that additional buybacks and special dividends could follow if AI-driven cash generation remains robust.

The policy shift is arguably more significant than the buyback itself because it gives investors a clearer framework for how future AI profits could be distributed.

What SK Hynix Investors Should Watch NextApple’s shareholder return program didn’t transform investor sentiment because of a single buyback—it did so through years of disciplined capital allocation backed by durable cash generation.

SK Hynix is still in the early stages of that journey. The key question for investors is whether the company can continue generating AI-driven cash flows while maintaining heavy investment in next-generation memory.

If it can, this week’s record buyback may be remembered less as a one-off announcement and more as the beginning of a new capital allocation era for the world’s leading AI memory supplier.

Tim Cook's Final Earnings Call as Apple CEO Came the Same Week Apple Hit a $5 Trillion Market Cap. Here's What Investors Should Watch Under His Successor.
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Since Tim Cook became CEO of Apple (AAPL +1.45%) in 2011, taking over for the legendary Steve Jobs, the company's share price has skyrocketed 2,180% (as of Aug. 17). This was an extremely successful tenure. But it's time to hang it up. The tech executive will step down on Sept. 1 and become executive chairman. He'll be replaced by John Ternus, a 25-year Apple veteran who's currently the hardware chief.

Cook's final earnings call for Apple's fiscal 2026 third quarter, which ended June 27, was on July 30. It happened the same week the business reached a $5 trillion market cap, though that valuation has fallen to $4.5 trillion today, driven by a post-earnings sell-off.

Apple remains one of the most valuable and dominant enterprises on the planet, which makes things easier for its successor. Here's what investors should watch as Ternus takes over the CEO role.

Outgoing Apple CEO Tim Cook. Image source: Apple.

Does Apple need to introduce a new game-changing device? This is where Ternus' background in hardware could shine through. The biggest question has long focused on the company's ability to introduce a new product line that can drive financial results. This is a difficult task, given Apple's massive revenue base.

For what it's worth, Apple is working on a foldable phone, an artificial intelligence (AI) pin, and smart glasses, as it leans into a forward-thinking mentality. Maybe one of these ideas will break through. But it might not be necessary for Ternus to do too much early on.

Sales of the iPhone, which remains the flagship device, rose more than 20% year over year in each of the last three fiscal quarters. This has occurred despite Apple not yet launching its updated Siri voice assistant.

Will Apple adjust its capital allocation policy? Through the first nine months of fiscal 2026, Apple paid $11.8 billion in dividends. On the other hand, its share repurchases totaled $62.1 billion. During his tenure, Tim Cook oversaw a mind-boggling $877 billion worth of stock buybacks. This has been the hallmark of Apple's capital allocation policy for more than a decade.

Now that Ternus will soon be in charge, maybe he will decide to direct more of the company's cash toward research and development projects or mergers and acquisitions. This relates in part to the previous point. Ternus could become much more aggressive than Cook was in trying to find the next major product form factor and end up diverting financial resources from returning capital to shareholders.

Can Apple Intelligence strengthen the ecosystem? The last factor investors should watch is how the company's AI playbook, known as Apple Intelligence, evolves. Critics have called out the business for falling behind its big tech peers, which are spending large sums on infrastructure. Ternus could have greater conviction on where to invest in the AI trend, taking a more urgent approach than the company has historically been known for.

For Apple, though, it all comes down to how this technology could strengthen its already robust ecosystem. Ternus probably understands that the business doesn't need to do anything wild. Apple can lean into its unrivaled brand power, customer loyalty, and hardware/software adeptness to widen its economic moat. AI is just a tool to support that goal.

Shares of Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL | AAPL Price Prediction) closed higher Tuesday even as the broader Nasdaq sold off, finishing the session up 1.5% at $310.03. The Invesco QQQ Trust (NASDAQ:QQQ), which tracks the Nasdaq-100, fell 2%. Apple was the best performer in the Magnificent 7.

Off-Balance-Sheet AI Commitments Trigger a Rotation The catalyst for today’s Nasdaq route was a Wall Street Journal analysis by Peter Rudegeair and Peter Santilli examining how much future AI spending big tech has committed to that does not appear on their balance sheets. “Each quarter, big tech companies disclose their massive capital expenditures on artificial-intelligence infrastructure, from data centers to chips. But those figures don’t come close to expressing the full extent of future spending to which Google parent Alphabet, Meta Platforms, Oracle and many others have committed.

That is because a huge swath of their coming financial obligations aren’t reflected on their balance sheets.” The WSJ pegged the total at roughly $3 trillion across nine top tech companies, growing faster than traditional capex and about triple what those companies owe under outstanding leases and long-term borrowings.

The per-company breakdown, per the WSJ: Alphabet around $900 billion, Meta Platforms more than $600 billion, Microsoft nearly $600 billion, Amazon closing in on $300 billion, and Nvidia more than $200 billion. Apple does not appear on the list.

Apple Is Now the Counter-Cyclical Trade in the Magnificent 7 That absence is the point. Apple has become the counter-cyclical name inside the group. When AI hardware rallies, especially memory, Apple often lags as component costs squeeze margins. Tim Cook described the current environment as “a 100-year flood on the memory pricing with exponential increases in memory prices.” B

ut when investors reprice the risk of enormous forward AI obligations, Apple becomes the safe haven inside tech. Apple’s approach has leaned on partnerships and on-device processing rather than hyperscale training buildouts, a strategy Cook detailed in the company’s most recent quarterly filing. Cook has argued that “The ability to run some percentage of requests on device is also very strategic and sort of a competitive weapon, if you will.”

Apple Versus Meta Was the Sharpest Contrast on the Tape The two extremes of Tuesday’s Magnificent 7 moves lined up with the two extremes of the obligation list.

Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META), carrying more than $600 billion of off-balance-sheet commitments per the WSJ, fell ~4% to close at $543.82. CFO Susan Li told investors last month that “We anticipate 2026 capital expenditures, including principal payments on finance leases, to be in the range of $130 to $145 billion.” NVIDIA (Nasdaq: NVDA) sits in between, down ~2% to $219.74, both the primary beneficiary of AI spending investors are now questioning and carrying more than $200 billion of its own forward commitments. Alphabet closed roughly flat, Microsoft nudged higher, and Amazon slipped modestly. The rotation was broad, with semiconductors under pressure while software held up, and the 30-year Treasury yield hit a 19-year high, raising the cost of financing those long-dated buildouts. What to Watch One session does not erase Apple’s recent stretch. It remains down ~8% over the past month, though it is still up ~13% year to date and ~32% over the past year. The read-through is about relative positioning on risk-off days. Watch whether AI capex concerns keep bidding Apple and pressuring the hyperscalers into NVIDIA’s earnings next week.

Apple Removes Some Fees for App Developers in European Union
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Apple said on Tuesday that it would change its rules for app developers in the European Union, in a bid to end a long antitrust dispute with regulators there over how the company manages its App Store.

Starting in October, Apple will remove several fees for those developers and take a smaller cut than its standard 30 percent from in-app purchases, with rates depending on how apps are distributed and payments are processed. Apple will also allow developers to offer payment methods aside from its own and to distribute apps via the internet, and will permit more companies to create third-party app stores.

The changes follow years of antitrust scrutiny for Apple and the App Store, from the United States to Brazil to South Korea. Regulators have said Apple uses the digital marketplace to crush competition, and developers have complained about the company’s high fees and strict rules. The European Commission, the executive branch of the European Union, has been among the most aggressive enforcers.

“These changes resolve Apple’s disagreements with the Commission over business terms and alternative distribution,” Apple wrote in a blog post. “They also reduce complexity by moving every developer that distributes apps in the EU to a single set of business terms.”

The commission said it welcomed Apple’s changes to the App Store and would monitor how they were carried out.

In 2022, the European Union enacted the Digital Markets Act, a law meant to increase competition in the digital economy. In April last year, the European Commission fined Apple 500 million euros ($570 million at the time), saying the company had violated the law by limiting how developers could communicate with customers about sales and other offers. Regulators also ruled against Apple for restricting access to third-party app stores on its devices.

Apple said on Tuesday that it would also introduce protections for younger users in the European Union.

Users under 18 will need parental approval for in-app purchases that use alternative payment methods or take place on the internet. Users under 13 will not be able to make in-app purchases via the web.

Apple overhauls its EU App Store fees, loosens rules for alternative app stores
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Apple on Tuesday announced a simplified commission structure for apps in the European Union in an effort to resolve its disagreements with the European Commission over the tech giant’s business terms. Under the new model, Apple will replace its per-install Core Technology Fee with a flat 5% commission on digital goods in apps distributed outside the App Store or on the web. Apple also adjusted its rates for alternative payments and for its own in-app purchases, and made it easier for developers to open alternative app stores.

The changes mark Apple’s latest attempt to create App Store business terms that comply with EU regulations, after years of back-and-forth with regulators over the terms’ complexity and fairness.

The tech giant had adjusted its App Store fees in the EU last year after regulators fined Apple €500 million for noncompliance with the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) and threatened further fines. In doing so, Apple presented a more complex fee structure, which critics called an example of “malicious compliance.” The old structure included an initial acquisition fee, store services fees, and different tiers of service based on developers’ needs.

Now Apple is presenting its latest revision, highlighted by a flat commission of 5% on transactions in apps distributed outside the App Store, either through alternative app marketplaces or the web.

Meanwhile, the new terms set Apple’s in-app purchase fees at 26%, compared with 30% under its traditional terms. Most developers will still qualify for the discounted 15% fee, however, through special programs such as the App Store Small Business Program, Mini Apps Partner Program, and Video Partner Program, and for apps with auto-renewing subscriptions after their first year, Apple said.

In addition, apps using alternative payment processing will pay a 20% commission unless they’re in one of the special programs, in which case the rate will drop to 10%.

Apple also noted that developers will be locked into their chosen payment options for 12 months, whether they use Apple’s in-app purchases, external payments, or a combination of the two.

The company also carves out exceptions for developers allowed to use external links inside their apps, barring such links from apps in the Kids category for safety purposes. Users under 18 years old will also need parental approval before making purchases outside the App Store.

Notably, the new rules loosen the requirements for developers to operate an alternative app store, permitting marketplaces that meet certain financial stability bars.

Previously, Apple required developers to either prove they had significant financial backing or show that they had been in Apple’s Developer Program for at least two years and had an app with more than 1 million first annual installs in the EU in the previous calendar year.

Now Apple doesn’t require developers to show they’ve met those milestones (though that’s still an option), and it’s added other ways to demonstrate financial backing, including public company status, financial audits, qualifying VC funding, and more.

Apple overhauls Europe app store fees to resolve payments clash
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Apple on Tuesday announced that alternative, third-party app stores in the European Union will be charged a 5% commission on in-app purchases, which the iPhone maker said will "resolve" disagreements with regulators stemming from the implementation of Europe's Digital Markets Act.

Under the new rules, apps purchased through Apple's App Store using Apple's system will pay a commission of 26% on digital goods and services. Apps that use their own payment processing systems and take credit cards directly will pay Apple 20%. Apps that link out to a website to complete purchases will be charged 15%, and apps distributed through third-party app stores or the web will be charged 5%, which Apple calls a "Core Technology Commission." Some fees can be cut in half by participating in various Apple programs.

It's a replacement for a more complicated system that Apple proposed last year. The new fee tiers take effect on Oct. 1.

Historically, Apple charged either 30% or 15% on all iPhone in-app purchases, and required that all non-enterprise iPhone apps be installed through its App Store. But Apple's App Store model has been under attack around the world in the past decade from lawsuits and government regulators, as critics say it operates as a monopoly on iPhone software and squeezes developers and users with fees.

Apple has argued that its App Store and in-app purchase requirements are designed to increase trust and safety and enforce issues around security and inappropriate apps.

But there has been friction between Apple and the EC over the company's App Store proposals, and Apple has faced large fines.

Only a handful of regions require Apple to enable third-party app stores that can sell iPhone apps and Europe is the only region where users can install iPhone software from the web. Japan and Brazil have also required third-party app stores.

In the U.S., Apple is fighting to restrict users from linking out to payments on the web as part of the lingering Epic Games litigation. It recently proposed a 15% commission on link-out payments in the U.S.

Apple said its proposal on Tuesday resolves its disagreements with the European Commission on the matter. It also said that it worked with the EC to implement child safety measures, including adding parental restrictions on some in-app purchases.

Apple generates significant revenue from its App Store, which is reported in its profitable Services division, but it didn't highlight the App Store as a top driver of services growth in the most recent quarter for the first time since 2023, according to a Morgan Stanley note. CFO Kevan Parekh noted slower mobile gaming and other factors affecting the performance of the App Store in a call with analysts in July.

"Keep in mind, we also made some changes to the App Store business model in certain countries," Parekh said.

CompaniesSTOCKHOLM, Aug 18 (Reuters) - Apple (AAPL.O), opens new tab said on Tuesday it will charge a 5% commission on digital transactions in apps distributed outside its App Store, replacing a more complex system as it ‌seeks to comply with the European Union's Digital Markets Act.

The company last year changed App Store rules and fees in the EU after the bloc's antitrust regulators ordered it to remove commercial barriers that they said hindered developers from directing customers outside the store.

The regulators criticised Apple's conditions, including a new Core Technology Fee, saying they discouraged developers from using alternative app distribution channels on its iOS mobile operating system.

Apple said on Tuesday that App Store apps using alternative payment processing will face a 20% commission, although fees could fall to 10% under its small business programme.

For apps distributed through alternative app marketplaces or the web, Apple will charge a 5% Core Technology Commission.

The new terms eliminate the initial ‌acquisition fee and store services fee charged under the previous system.

The changes, effective October 1, will resolve disagreements with the EU and the European Commission over these issues, Apple said.

The Commission said it welcomed Apple's changes, and will monitor their implementation.

Apple will introduce a single set of terms for developers operating in the EU that are similar to the commission-based terms it offers in markets such as Japan and Brazil, the company said.

Japan and Brazil have sought to open up Apple's App Store business model, under which developers have long paid commissions of up to 30% on in-app purchases of digital goods and services. Apple is still litigating over what it can charge developers in the United States.

What BofA and Morgan Stanley Are Saying About Apple (AAPL) Stock in August
AAPL Apple

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL | AAPL Price Prediction) is traded around $304.52 on Monday, Aug. 17, up 12.36% year to date, even as Wall Street grows increasingly confident that a foldable iPhone is coming before year-end. Here is what two closely followed Apple analysts are saying, and what it means for the stock today.

The Timeline Wall Street Is Working With
Both Bank of America and Morgan Stanley have converged on a similar product roadmap: a foldable iPhone alongside a refreshed Pro model arriving in September 2026, with base, Air and entry-level ‘e’ variants following in the first half of 2027. That sequencing matters because it shapes how much of the foldable revenue cycle will actually land in Apple’s fiscal 2026 results.

Prediction markets are already pricing in a high probability of this happening. On Polymarket, the “Will Apple release a foldable iPhone before 2027?” contract is trading at 0.81, implying an 81% crowd probability of a public launch by Dec. 31, 2026. That market has seen $100,556 in total volume, with $29,070 traded in the past week alone, signaling genuine conviction rather than thin speculation.

BofA on Margins, Morgan Stanley on Demand
Bank of America’s primary concern centers on margin impact. Foldable displays carry meaningfully higher component costs than standard OLED panels, and BofA flags that the gross margin profile of a first-generation foldable could weigh on the Services-driven margin expansion story Apple has built over the past three years. Apple reported strong operating margins on a trailing basis, and any dilution from premium hardware costs would be closely watched.

Morgan Stanley takes a more demand-focused view. The firm’s latest survey work points to 12% year-over-year growth in iPhone production, with overall iPhone demand described as strong. A foldable at a premium price point, likely above $1,500, could serve as an upgrade catalyst for Apple’s highest-value customers without cannibalizing core iPhone volumes. Morgan Stanley holds a Moderate Buy rating on the stock.

Risk/Reward at Current Prices
The consensus analyst price target sits at $330.53, or more than 8% higher than where shares are currently changing hands. Apple trades at a forward P/E of 29x, supported by a record Q1 FY2026 that delivered $143.76 billion in revenue and EPS of $2.84. China iPhone sales are running 23% higher over the first nine weeks of 2026, removing one of the market’s biggest overhangs.

The key variable analysts are watching is whether Apple can protect gross margins on the foldable’s launch quarter. If BofA’s margin concerns prove overstated and Morgan Stanley’s demand thesis holds, the September launch window could become a meaningful re-rating catalyst heading into fiscal 2027.

Could Apple stock jump 30%? This Nvidia AI bet may hold the key

Buy AAPL

Rothschild & Co Redburn’s thesis is that Apple can regain AI leadership without building frontier models: use open/third-party models (potentially Nvidia) and win on distribution via its installed base. That reframes “weak AI” into “smart integration,” and the foldable iPhone upside (higher ASP) is the catalyst that can re-rate the stock toward ~$400.

Key Risk: Apple Intelligence keeps lagging and the foldable stays niche, so the market decides Apple can’t monetize AI/distribution fast enough.

Buy NVDA (AI model enablers)

If Apple adopts open-model options, Nvidia benefits indirectly as a supplier of high-performing, more “plug-in” model tech (e.g., Nemotron). Even without a formal Apple-Nvidia deal, the direction is toward more device makers using Nvidia’s model ecosystem to power on-device/near-device AI experiences.

Key Risk: Apple chooses to double down on Google/other closed stacks or builds a different partner strategy, limiting Nvidia’s incremental demand.

Apple stock NASDAQ:AAPL could have roughly 31% upside after Rothschild & Co Redburn upgraded the shares to Buy from Neutral and raised its price target to $400 from $260.

Rothschild & Co Redburn upgraded Apple to Buy from Neutral and lifted its price target to $400 from $260.

Analysts led by Timm Schulze-Melander argue that Apple could strengthen its AI position by relying on open models, potentially including technology from Nvidia.

There is no announced Apple-Nvidia AI partnership. Redburn is outlining a strategic option, not describing an existing deal.

Redburn’s thesis begins with an uncomfortable assessment: Apple Intelligence has disappointed, while Apple’s foundation models remain behind the frontier.

Apple has already turned to Google’s Gemini models for its AI strategy. Redburn argues that Apple could go further by adopting what it calls a “Fast Follower 2.0” approach, using strong third-party models rather than spending billions trying to build the industry’s best model.

That is where Nvidia enters the picture.

Schulze-Melander wrote, according to MarketWatch, that “a close, favourable partnership requires both Apple and Nvidia to want it.”

Redburn highlighted Nvidia’s Nemotron models as an example of open technology that could reduce Apple’s dependence on Google while preserving more strategic flexibility.

The underlying idea is that Apple’s advantage may be distribution.

With billions of active devices, it could become the gateway through which consumers use leading AI models even if those models are built elsewhere.

The appeal of an Nvidia or open-model route is clear.

Google gives Apple access to advanced AI quickly, but it also increases reliance on a company that competes with Apple across smartphones, operating systems and services.

Open models could let Apple retain greater control over the user experience while choosing among outside technologies.

HSBC has made a similar broader argument about Apple’s restraint. Analyst Nicolas Cote-Colisson upgraded Apple to Buy in July and raised his target to $366, arguing that the company’s relatively modest AI spending could prove an advantage as its capabilities and product pipeline improve.

That reframes Apple’s perceived weakness.

Instead of trying to match hyperscalers dollar for dollar, Apple could spend less on model development and concentrate on integrating AI into devices, software and services.

If model performance becomes increasingly commoditised, owning the consumer relationship could become more valuable than owning the underlying model.

Redburn’s $400 target is not simply an Nvidia call.

The firm also expects Apple’s anticipated foldable iPhone to provide a major lift, forecasting 14 million iPhone Ultra units in fiscal 2027 at an estimated $2,199 price. Redburn believes the device could raise iPhone average selling prices materially.

That assumption remains contested. Jefferies analyst Edison Lee downgraded Apple to Underperform on August 10 and cut his target to $263.66.

Jefferies cited concerns about Apple’s premium-device roadmap and limited progress in Apple Intelligence, while warning that an expensive foldable could remain a niche product.

The contrast captures the debate around Apple today.

Redburn sees an opportunity for Apple to avoid the most expensive part of the AI race and instead become its distribution layer. Jefferies sees execution risks in both AI and premium hardware.

Apple vs. CoreWeave: Comparing Revenue Trends Between a Stable Tech Giant and a Rapidly Growing AI Neocloud
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Apple: Managing Cyclical Revenue Patterns Across Global OperationsApple (AAPL -0.11%) generates revenue by designing, manufacturing, and selling a broad portfolio of consumer electronic devices, alongside offering various digital subscription services and cloud solutions to diverse customer bases, including individual consumers and corporate enterprise clients.

While previewing new accessibility updates across its operating systems and navigating ongoing regulatory compliance investigations in the European Union, it reported a 27% net income margin for the quarter ended June 27, 2026.

CoreWeave: Scaling Revenue Through Ongoing Infrastructure ExpansionCoreWeave (CRWV +0.70%) primarily earns revenue by constructing and operating specialized cloud computing infrastructure, referred to as a neocloud. It offers high-performance compute resources, storage solutions, and managed services to large enterprises for intensive data workloads and complex visual rendering operations.

It initiated international data center expansions into Indonesia and Sweden and addressed ongoing class action litigation regarding historical supplier disclosures, while reporting a -24% net income margin for the quarter ended June 30, 2026.

Why Revenue Matters for Investors Tracking Financial PerformanceRevenue helps investors evaluate a company's fundamental ability to attract customer demand and generate continuous incoming sales before any operating expenses, taxes, or debt costs are applied. Closely tracking this top-line financial figure enables investors to understand the total scale and top-line growth trajectory of a business.

Calendar quarterApple RevenueCoreWeave RevenueQ3 2024$94.9 billion (quarter ended Sept. 28, 2024)$583.9 million (quarter ended Sept. 30, 2024)Q4 2024$124.3 billion (quarter ended Dec. 28, 2024)$747.4 million (quarter ended Dec. 31, 2024)Q1 2025$95.4 billion (quarter ended March 29, 2025)$981.6 million (quarter ended March 31, 2025)Q2 2025$94.0 billion (quarter ended June 28, 2025)$1.2 billion (quarter ended June 30, 2025)Q3 2025$102.5 billion (quarter ended Sept. 27, 2025)$1.4 billion (quarter ended Sept. 30, 2025)Q4 2025$143.8 billion (quarter ended Dec. 27, 2025)$1.6 billion (quarter ended Dec. 31, 2025)Q1 2026$111.2 billion (quarter ended March 28, 2026)$2.1 billion (quarter ended March 31, 2026)Q2 2026$109.4 billion (quarter ended June 27, 2026)$2.6 billion (quarter ended June 30, 2026)Data source: Company filings. Data as of Aug. 17, 2026.

Foolish TakeVeteran tech conglomerate Apple and neocloud CoreWeave both achieve consistent year-over-year sales increases, demonstrating their ability to attract customers and grow their businesses. That said, CoreWeave displays quarterly revenue growth in a sign of the enormous demand for its cloud infrastructure to support artificial intelligence systems.

However, Apple is no slouch. In its fiscal third quarter, ended June 27, the company reported record results. Its revenue of $109.4 billion represented the highest Q3 total in its history. This combined with Apple's robust financial strength, which included Q3 net income of $29.8 billion, up from the prior year's $23.4 billion, and $39.5 billion in cash on its balance sheet, make it an attractive tech company to invest in.

While CoreWeave is growing revenue at an incredible pace, it comes at a cost. The company is borrowing heavily to fund the expansion of its AI infrastructure. Consequently, it exited Q2 with over $30 billion in debt compared to cash of $5.5 billion, and a net loss of $626 million, more than double the prior year's loss of $290 million.

Could Apple Stock Be Headed to $400?
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) shares are swinging on Monday. Rothschild Redburn upgraded the stock to Buy from Neutral rating and sharply raised its price target.

Apple stock is holding steady today. What should traders watch with AAPL? Rothschild Redburn Upgrades Apple, Raises Price Target to $400Rothschild Redburn analyst James Cordwell upgraded Apple to Buy from Neutral and raised his price target to $400 from $260, a 53.85% increase that implies about 30.75% upside from the stock’s current price of $305.93.

Cordwell pointed to Apple’s tightly integrated hardware, custom chips and expanding services business as the core of his thesis, estimating Apple’s installed base at 2.55 billion devices with customer loyalty he described as difficult for competitors to match. He said Apple’s services business remains the most valuable part of the company, growing three times faster than product sales and carrying gross margins of 75%, more than double the 37% margin on hardware.

Cordwell acknowledged that closed-source AI models from companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic pose a real risk to Apple’s services business by changing how people search for information and discover apps, threatening what he called Apple’s highest-margin, highest-multiple business. But he said increasingly capable, free, open-source AI models could give Apple a path to rebuild its Apple Intelligence platform on its own terms.

Beyond the AI debate, Cordwell forecast iPhone sales growing at a 12% five-year compound annual rate, which he said sits 3% to 14% above consensus estimates for fiscal 2026 through 2030. He credited that outlook partly to Apple’s move into premium foldable devices with the iPhone Ultra.

Combining stronger-than-expected iPhone earnings with the Apple Intelligence reset, Cordwell said his estimates now sit 18% above fiscal 2030 consensus, and he said he has confidence that Apple’s valuation multiple relative to peers remains well supported.

Apple’s Longer-Term Trend Stays Intact Even as Near-Term Momentum CoolsStepping back, Apple’s chart still points higher over the long run. Shares were trading about 9% above their 200-day moving average of $280.67 and roughly 3.8% above their 100-day average of $294.61, keeping the broader uptrend in place.

Closer in, though, the picture has softened. Apple traded about 3.7% below its 20-day moving average of $317.40 and around 1.1% below its 50-day average of $309.09, a setup where rallies tend to face more resistance than usual. Momentum has cooled alongside that pullback, with the MACD line sitting below its signal line and a negative histogram, typically a sign that buying pressure is fading unless the stock can climb back above that baseline. Even so, the underlying structure remains intact: the 20-day average still sits above the 50-day average, and the golden cross from earlier this year, with the 50-day average above the 200-day, keeps the longer-term bias tilted higher.

For traders watching the next move, the levels are simple and round. Resistance sits at $335, near the top of the stock’s recent trading range, while support at $300 stands out as the first level everyone is likely to watch if the pullback continues.

AAPL Shares Are Trading LowerAAPL Price Action: Apple shares were down 0.03% at $305.84 at the time of publication on Monday, according to Benzinga Pro.
