Apple Is Making an Existential AI Bet—One Analyst Thinks It's Wrong
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) stock rose in Monday’s premarket trading as investor sentiment improved ahead of the opening bell. Nasdaq futures climbed 1.6%, while S&P 500 futures gained 0.97%.

Apple’s early gains largely tracked the broader rally in U.S. equity futures, with other mega-cap technology stocks also moving higher.

The stock is trading near a key resistance level around its recent highs. That makes even modest gains meaningful for short-term traders.

Investors are also positioning ahead of Apple’s quarterly earnings report later this week. As a result, trading could remain sensitive around key technical levels until the results are released.

AI Strategy In Focus: Apple Is Zigging While Big Tech Zags on AIApple’s artificial intelligence strategy is also drawing increased attention ahead of its earnings report.

Unlike Alphabet Inc., Meta Platforms Inc., Amazon.com Inc. and Microsoft Corp., Apple is not spending heavily on AI infrastructure or developing large foundation models. Instead, the company is leaning on its large installed base of consumer devices to deliver AI features.

Evercore ISI analyst Amit Daryanani told CNBC on Friday that Apple appears to view foundation models as less critical to long-term differentiation. That approach allows the company to avoid the heavy capital spending seen across the hyperscaler group while preserving greater flexibility to return cash to shareholders.

Needham analyst Laura Martin told CNBC on Saturday that Apple has chosen to position itself as the primary gateway between consumers and AI services rather than building its own foundation model.

Despite Android’s larger global market share, she said Apple is making a high-stakes wager that it can succeed without developing its own large AI model.

According to Martin, that strategy could either generate exceptional long-term returns if it proves successful or pose a significant existential risk to the company if it fails. She added that she believes Apple has made the wrong choice.

The key question for investors is whether Apple Intelligence can drive a new hardware upgrade cycle. The analyst pointed to faster iPhone replacement rates and improving demand in China as important metrics to watch.

Technical AnalysisApple traded at $334.00, just below its 52-week high of $334.99 reached in July. A move above $335 could attract momentum buyers, while failure to break through may trigger profit-taking.

The broader trend remains positive. The stock trades 6.2% above its 20-day simple moving average (SMA) of $314.39 and 20.9% above its 200-day SMA of $275.98.

The 20-day SMA remains above the 50-day SMA. In addition, the 50-day SMA continues to trade above the 200-day SMA following the golden cross that formed in September 2025. That setup suggests the longer-term uptrend remains intact.

Momentum indicators also support the bullish outlook. The moving average convergence divergence (MACD) indicator remains above its signal line, while the histogram is positive. Together, those signals point to strengthening buying momentum.

The next key resistance level is $335.00. Initial support sits near $287.50, an area where buyers have previously stepped in.

Earnings And Analyst OutlookApple is scheduled to report quarterly results on Thursday, July 30.

Wall Street expects earnings of $1.89 per share, up from $1.57 a year earlier. Revenue is projected to reach $108.86 billion, compared with $94.04 billion in the prior-year quarter.

The stock trades at 40.3 times earnings, reflecting a premium valuation.

Analysts maintain a consensus Buy rating with an average price forecast of $325.36. Recent rating changes include:

Morgan Stanley raised its price forecast to $364 on July 23 while maintaining an Overweight rating. HSBC upgraded the stock to Buy on July 17 and raised its price forecast to $366. KeyBanc downgraded Apple to Underweight on July 14 with a $250 price forecast. ETF ExposureBecause Apple represents such a large portion of these funds, strong ETF inflows or outflows can drive automatic buying or selling of the stock.

Price ActionAAPL Stock Price Activity: Apple shares were up 0.29% at $334.00 during premarket trading on Monday, according to Benzinga Pro data.

Apple options are doing something unusual into earnings
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
The U.S. stock market is in a two-month rut, bond yields are making new highs, and earnings from Alphabet and Tesla dropped the ball. Bulls need a hero.

Enter Apple, the only stock among the ten biggest in the S&P 500 that's near an all-time high.

After going nowhere for seven months, Apple stock is up 20% since its late-June low and less than two dollars below a fresh all-time record made just over a week ago.

Apple reports earnings after the bell Thursday, and options traders are leaning into the stock's recent strength, with big-money traders buying in-the-money calls and speculators looking for a ramp to new highs by this Friday, according to trades put on before the market close Friday, and open interest that's built up around the stock this summer.

Apple, YTD

Of the $590 million in options premium traded on Apple Friday, $442 million was tied to calls, according to SpotGamma. Traders bought almost 560,000 calls, compared to just 332,00 puts, ThinkOrSwim data show. Perhaps more importantly, options prices currently imply an almost 4% move for Apple after earnings, an unusually large move considering the average historical 1% swing over the past year, according to Cboe LiveVol data.

"I think the probability is fairly high that Apple could help stabilize the market this week," said Nigam Arora, founder and author of The Arora Report newsletter. "Investors are viewing Apple as a defensive stock because, unlike several of its peers, it isn't spending hundreds of billions on AI capex."

The biggest trade in Apple Friday was someone opening a new position in $2.6 million of 280-strike calls in Apple expiring mid-August, a bullish position with a delta near one, meaning the trade acts as stock replacement for the owner.

The strike with the biggest open interest in options expiring this Friday is at $320, with 13,000 calls 5,000 puts, according to data from BarChart. That suggests even if the earnings don't lead to a rally, investors are confident last week's lows will hold.

The most popular contract expiring Friday by volume bought on Friday was the 300-strike put, with 7,500 contracts traded but for just $374,000 in total premium. The second-most popular was the 340 strike call with 5,000 contracts totaling $2.3 million in premium, SpotGamma data show.

That contract goes for $4.25 as of Friday's close, meaning buyers need Apple to rally 3.4% this week to beyond its all-time high of $335.

Can Apple make smart glasses that aren't a constant privacy threat?
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
As Apple prepares to launch its first smart glasses, the company is also wrestling with how to address consumer privacy concerns, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Gurman reports that Apple has pushed back the launch target from early 2027, with the glasses now set for unveiling at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2027 and actually becoming available by the end of the year. That delay allows Apple to work on the product itself, and on the messaging around privacy.

It sounds like the company has noticed the concerns around Meta’s smart glasses — sometimes decried as “pervert glasses” — being used to make non-consensual video recordings. That could be a bigger issue for Apple, which constantly emphasizes privacy in its marketing.

Among other things, Apple will reportedly try to emphasize privacy-friendly features like on-device processing, as well as the absence of facial recognition. The company will likely steer clear of using customer recordings to train AI models, and it’s unlikely to follow Meta’s reported practice of using contractors to review customer footage.

Machine learning algorithm predicts Apple stock price on August 1, 2026
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News

Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) has the potential to climb to $338 by August 1, 2026, according to a forecast generated by Finbold’s AI Agent.

Notably, the model aggregates predictions from several large language models and machine learning systems.

The forecast implies a gain of about 17% from Apple’s Friday closing price of $287. Generated on July 25, the prediction covers the period through August 1 and incorporates technical indicators including the 50-day simple moving average (SMA), 200-day simple moving average, and other momentum signals.

AAPL stock price prediction. Source: Finbold Among the individual models, GPT-5.6 Terra delivered the most bullish forecast, projecting Apple stock at $340, representing an 18.42% increase.

Gemini 3.5 Flash was the most conservative, forecasting a price of $335, while Claude Opus 4.8 projected $338 and Grok 4.5 predicted $339.

AAPL stock price prediction. Source: Finbold Apple stock price fundamentals  The AI forecast arrives as investors focus on Apple’s upcoming fiscal third-quarter earnings report, scheduled for July 30.

Several Wall Street firms have maintained bullish outlooks ahead of the release, citing strong revenue growth and resilient demand across Apple’s ecosystem.

Notably, analysts expect Apple to post earnings per share of $1.89, up from $1.65 in the same quarter a year earlier. Revenue is projected to reach approximately $109 billion, reflecting double-digit annual growth driven by continued strength in iPhone sales, Services revenue, and the company’s broader ecosystem.

The consensus estimates follow a strong fiscal second quarter, when Apple reported revenue of $111.18 billion and earnings per share of $2.01, exceeding analyst expectations on both metrics.

The earnings release could prove particularly important because Apple stock has recovered strongly from a June correction.

The technology company regained momentum during July and briefly reclaimed the title of the world’s most valuable publicly traded company by market capitalization before investors shifted their focus to the upcoming earnings report.

Market participants are also closely monitoring management’s commentary on artificial intelligence investments, which have become a major driver of sentiment across the technology sector.

Recent earnings reports from large-cap technology companies have shown that investors remain sensitive to rising AI-related capital expenditures, even when revenue and profit results exceed expectations.

Shares of Apple (AAPL +3.52%) climbed to near record highs on Friday, as investors applauded the iPhone maker's relatively modest artificial intelligence (AI) investments.

Apple's conservative strategy is looking smarter by the minute Hyperscalers and other tech giants are spending staggering sums to build out their artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure networks. Investors are beginning to question whether these massive capital expenditures will produce the type of returns they've grown accustomed to. Moreover, fears are mounting that the AI boom could be expanding into a bubble. Bubbles eventually burst -- and often lead to a crash.

You don't always need to spend money to make money Rather than spending hundreds of billions of dollars in a futile attempt to keep pace with the latest AI advances, Apple is partnering with other AI leaders to bring the products of their massive spending to its customers.

Apple has partnered with Alphabet, Nvidia, and OpenAI to bolster the AI features on its iPhones and other devices. It's also working with Chinese internet giants Alibaba and Baidu to offer AI-powered services in China.

This collaborative approach is prudent and cost-efficient. In turn, savvy investors are beginning to appreciate Apple's AI strategy more each passing day.

FDVV's 2.8% yield hides tech mega-cap risk in dividend portfolio

The Fidelity High Dividend ETF (NYSEARCA:FDVV) pays a 2.8% trailing yield on $10.03 billion in assets, and the title’s 3.3% figure refers to the sector-tilt overlay Fidelity applies to reweight the portfolio toward higher-yielding equities. FDVV distributed $1.729 per share over the trailing twelve months across four quarterly payments, most recently $0.519 on June 23, 2026. The question for holders is whether that income stream is durable given how much of FDVV now sits in mega-cap tech rather than traditional yield sectors.

How FDVV Generates Its Income This dividend-focused ETF tracks the Fidelity High Dividend Index, which starts with large- and mid-cap US stocks that pay above-average dividends and then applies a sector reweighting so that no single sector dominates purely because it yields the most. Rather than letting utilities and REITs swell to 30% of the fund, the index caps sector drift and redeploys capital into dividend payers inside technology, financials, and consumer staples. FDVV’s sector-balanced approach aims to provide diversified dividend exposure without overconcentration in traditional high-yield sectors.

The result is a portfolio of 112 holdings with an expense ratio of 0.15%. Technology sits at 26% and financials at 21%, with real estate contributing 9%. Income safety depends less on structural yield mechanics and more on the fundamentals of a concentrated set of large positions.

The Holdings That Drive the Distribution Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL | AAPL Price Prediction) is FDVV’s largest single position at 6%. Apple sits in the fund for reasons beyond its yield of 0.31%. Coverage is the relevant metric: Apple pays $1.04 annually against $8.24 in diluted trailing EPS, leaving a payout ratio near 13%. Q2 FY26 operating cash flow of $53.92 billion and a fresh $100 billion buyback authorization mean the dividend is effectively an afterthought against Apple’s cash generation.

Broadcom at 3% shows similar coverage. The $0.65 quarterly dividend is trivial against Q2 FY26 free cash flow of $10.26 billion, roughly 60% of revenue. AI semiconductor revenue grew 143% year over year in the quarter, and management guided Q3 FY26 revenue to $29.4 billion. The dividend is safe; the risk is valuation, with the stock down 8% in the past month.

Coca-Cola at 2% is the classic dividend anchor. The quarterly payment rose from $0.51 in 2025 to $0.53 in 2026, extending a streak of annual increases back to 1999. A yield of 2.5%, net margin of 28%, and 2026 free cash flow guided near $12.2 billion mean the payout is covered several times over.

Duke Energy at 1% is the regulated-utility ballast. The quarterly dividend of $1.065 is supported by regulated cash flow, and 2026 adjusted EPS guidance of $6.55 to $6.80 comfortably covers the $4.24 annual dividend. Operating cash flow fell 31% in Q1 on higher interest expense, and utility leverage remains elevated. The dividend is safe within a normal rate-case environment.

Total Return and Distribution Trend This dividend-focused ETF has returned 11% year-to-date and 19% over the trailing year, ahead of the S&P 500’s 9% YTD and 18% one-year figures. Five-year total price return of 93% exceeds the S&P 500’s 71%. The distribution has grown at a 5% rate, and the fund’s payout ratio of 54% leaves room for continued increases. FDVV’s recent outperformance reflects the strength of its sector-balanced dividend approach.

Weighing FDVV’s Income Durability The payout looks durable. The top four positions each cover their dividends with wide margins of cash flow, and the sector-tilt methodology prevents the fund from reaching for yield in structurally weak areas. The trade-off is that this portfolio behaves partly like a large-cap growth fund, with a headline yield of 2.8% rather than the 3.3% to 3.6% offered by peers that lean harder into pure dividend factors. Holders seeking maximum current income may prefer those alternatives; holders willing to accept a lower yield for tech exposure and higher recent total return get a defensible income stream from FDVV.

Why is Apple stock outperforming the broader market?
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Apple Inc. stock climbed 3% on Friday, outperforming much of the technology sector even as semiconductor stocks came under pressure.

The gains came after Baird raised its price target on the iPhone maker while maintaining an Outperform rating ahead of the company's upcoming quarterly earnings report.

The broader technology sector was weaker during the session. The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.19%, while shares of Intel, Micron and Advanced Micro Devices declined between 1% and 5%.

Apple's relative strength comes as investors prepare for the company's fiscal third-quarter earnings report, scheduled for July 30, and assess several product and software initiatives expected over the coming months.

William Power, Senior Research Analyst at Baird, raised the price target on Apple to $330 from $310 on Thursday while reiterating its Outperform rating.

The brokerage expects Apple to deliver solid fiscal third-quarter results, supported by continued iPhone demand and stable growth in its services business.

While memory pricing remains a headwind, Baird expects recent price increases to help offset some of that pressure.

The brokerage acknowledged that Apple's valuation appears elevated compared with historical levels but believes several factors continue to support the stock.

Port in the storm (of software and mega-cap tech capex). We expect solid FQ3 results, driven by strong iPhone growth and steady services trends. Memory pricing remains a daunting headwind, though price increases should ease the pressure. Valuation looks rich relative to past trends, suggesting much may be priced in, but we expect the strong free cash flow, upcoming product cycle and early positive comments on Siri AI to support the stock. We also think Street estimates over the NTM are set up well, with potential for further upside.

According to Baird, Apple generated approximately $129 billion in free cash flow over the last twelve months, while an upcoming product cycle and encouraging early commentary surrounding Siri AI could provide additional support for shares.

The firm also believes Wall Street earnings estimates for the next twelve months leave room for further upside.

Apple is scheduled to report earnings on July 30, with options markets implying a potential 3.5% move in the stock following the results.

Beyond earnings, investors are closely watching Apple's upcoming hardware refresh.

The company is preparing to introduce its next-generation M6 processor across its Mac lineup beginning this fall and extending into next year.

The refresh is expected to include updated 14-inch MacBook Pro models and new iMac computers, marking the first refresh for the desktop line in two years.

Apple is also preparing to launch Apple Upgrade, a new device leasing program backed by Klarna. The service is scheduled to become available in the United States on July 28.

Separately, Evercore ISI reiterated its Outperform rating and maintained a $365 price target following news of the Apple Upgrade program.

The investment firm also maintained its bullish stance after reports that Apple is engaged in settlement discussions with the US Department of Justice over an antitrust lawsuit filed in March 2024.

Apple is also expanding its presence in the automotive software market.

The company announced that Ford will become the first automaker to adopt its new MapKit for Automotive software development kit.

The technology will be integrated into dashboards across Ford's forthcoming electric vehicle platform and will also provide road data for the automaker's BlueCruise hands-free driving system.

The announcement marks a deeper expansion into vehicle software following Apple's decision two years ago to end its own electric vehicle project.

Unlike CarPlay, which primarily provides infotainment services, the new automotive software integrates Apple's mapping technology more directly into vehicle systems.

With earnings approaching, new hardware launches on the horizon and continued expansion into automotive software, investors will be closely watching whether Apple can sustain its recent outperformance amid broader volatility across the technology sector.

Apple Stock Trades Above Every Major Moving Average Heading Into Q3
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Apple stock is trading near recent highs. Where are AAPL shares going? Earnings Preview & HistoryApple is scheduled to report third-quarter earnings on July 30. Analysts estimate EPS of $1.89 along with revenue of $108.86 billion. For the prior quarter, Apple reported EPS of $2.01, beating the consensus estimate of $1.94. The company also posted revenue of $111.18 billion, exceeding the consensus estimate of $109.68 billion.

Apple has beaten EPS estimates in eight consecutive quarters. Over the last four quarters, the company has averaged an EPS surprise of 0.07% and a revenue surprise of 0.03%.

What To WatchInvestors will be watching iPhone revenue and pricing trends closely, particularly whether Apple is leaning into a higher-end mix ahead of a potential foldable launch, since traders want to see pricing power holding up rather than being propped up by promotions. Services revenue growth and gross margin direction are also key to track, as a premium valuation typically requires Services to keep cushioning any hardware volatility.

Commentary on Greater China and broader international demand should draw attention too, since regional softness can quickly overshadow an otherwise solid quarter at this valuation.

Apple Trades 17% Above Its 200-Day AverageApple is still in a clear longer-term uptrend, with the stock trading 3.6% above its 20-day SMA ($311.49) and 17.1% above its 200-day SMA ($275.60), which typically signals buyers remain in control on pullbacks. The 20-day SMA is also above the 50-day SMA, and the 50-day SMA remains above the 200-day SMA—keeping the trend structure bullish.

Momentum is best read through MACD right now: MACD is above its signal line and the histogram is positive, which points to improving upside momentum versus the prior downswing. In plain terms, when MACD is above its signal line, it suggests selling pressure is fading and the trend is trying to re-assert higher.

From a levels perspective, the stock is hovering below the 52-week high at $334.99, so that zone is the next obvious area where sellers may show up if the rally continues. On the downside, traders will likely focus on whether pullbacks stay orderly above the late-spring/early-summer pivot area.

Key Support: $287.50 — a nearby level where buyers previously stepped in, sitting close to the stock’s intermediate trend zone between the 100-day and 200-day averages. Analyst Consensus & Recent Actions The stock carries a Buy rating with an average price forecast of $325.36. Recent analyst moves include:

Morgan Stanley: Overweight (Raises Target to $364.00) (July 23) HSBC: Upgraded to Buy (Raises Target to $366.00) (July 17) Keybanc: Downgraded to Underweight (Target $250.00) (July 14) Benzinga Edge RankingsBelow is the Benzinga Edge scorecard for Apple, highlighting its strengths and weaknesses compared to the broader market:

The Verdict: Apple’s Benzinga Edge signal reveals a momentum-and-quality-driven setup, where trend followers tend to stay involved as long as the stock holds key moving averages. The trade-off is valuation: with a weak Value score, the stock can be less forgiving around earnings if results or guidance don’t clearly support the premium multiple.

Apple Shares Edge HigherAAPL Price Action: At the time of publication, Apple shares are trading 0.22% higher at $322.36, according to data from Benzinga Pro.

Prediction: Apple Will Be a Long-Term AI Winner. 3 Reasons Why.
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
The hyperscalers, which are historically dominant technology enterprises, are planning to spend hundreds of billions of dollars this year to expand their computing infrastructure amid the ongoing artificial intelligence (AI) craze. Apple (AAPL +2.15%) is watching from the sidelines.

The market was critical of the Cupertino company's conservative approach. But with its share price up 22% in 2026 (as of July 21), the investment community is clearly rewarding the business. This perspective might prove to be right.

I predict that Apple will be a long-term AI winner. It comes down to the company's distribution advantage, superior user experience, and robust free cash flow (FCF).

Distribution advantage During the company's Q1 2026 earnings call in January, CEO Tim Cook said that Apple's installed base hit a fresh record of more than 2.5 billion active devices. This gives the company an unrivaled distribution advantage, as Apple's hardware is ubiquitous. New AI features, whether launched by Apple or by other businesses, will likely be accessed by consumers via these products.

There's always a chance that AI enables the creation of an entirely new product by another company. But it doesn't seem likely anytime soon. In the second quarter (ended March 28), iPhone revenue jumped 21.7% year over year to $57 billion.

Differentiation creates value Apple Intelligence, which is what the business calls its AI offerings, is partly powered by the company's Apple Foundation Models, which were custom-built in collaboration with Alphabet's Gemini capabilities. Apple pays $1 billion per year for this ability.

There's a hybrid approach here. User requests are processed by models that run locally on devices for simpler tasks, while others that are more complex get routed to Apple's Private Cloud Compute infrastructure.

For the end user, though, it doesn't matter what AI model, graphics processing units, or data centers are being used. This is all happening in the background. The user experience is what matters most. This suggests that AI infrastructure will be commoditized, leaving value at the differentiated layer that is hardware, software, and services. These are the areas that Apple excels in.

No hit to free cash flow Apple is staying out of the AI spending spree. At the same time, Amazon, Microsoft, Alphabet, and Meta Platforms are planning for roughly $700 billion in combined capital expenditures (capex) in 2026. Apple's capex is tiny by comparison, totaling just $4.3 billion in the last two quarters, as it doesn't need to rapidly build data center capacity.

Therefore, the business still produces massive FCF, to the tune of $78.3 billion in the first six months of fiscal 2026, up 63% year over year. This figure represented 30.7% of Apple's entire revenue. Consensus analyst estimates call for FCF to grow at a compound annual rate of 19.1% between fiscal 2025 and fiscal 2028.

At the end of the day, FCF is what drives a company's value. Unlike its big tech peers, Apple doesn't have to prove that its capex can eventually produce an adequate return.

47 Analysts Cover Apple. Their Average Price Target Is Now Below the Stock Price, One Week Before Earnings.
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Something odd has happened to Apple (AAPL -1.27%) on Wall Street. The 47 analysts covering the stock still rate it a buy, on average. But their average 12-month price target is now about $319 -- slightly below the roughly $320 the stock trades for as of this writing. In other words, the analysts who recommend buying Apple are, collectively, forecasting that it goes nowhere for a year.

That's an unusual setup for one of the world's most valuable tech companies, and the timing sharpens it. Apple reports fiscal third-quarter results on July 30, one week from today.

So is Wall Street quietly saying the stock is fully valued? Or have the targets simply not caught up with a stock that has moved faster than the models tracking it? A little of both, I'd argue.

What a below-price average actually says The average hides a wide spread. Price targets on Apple run from a low of $215 to a high of $400, and the median target of about $329 sits modestly above the current share price.

The ratings lean the same direction as the average rating suggests. Of the 47 analysts, 29 rate the stock a buy or better, 14 call it a hold, and only four recommend selling.

That combination of bullish ratings and flat targets usually shows up after a stock has made a big move in a short time. Apple qualifies. Shares trade about 59% above their 52-week low of $201.50, and they set a record high of $334.99 within the past week.

Price targets tend to trail a run like that, getting revised upward in steps as analysts refresh their models. Indeed, the revisions are still coming. Morgan Stanley just lifted its target to $364.

But it would be too easy to dismiss the flat average as pure lag. The targets also reflect a valuation that has expanded dramatically. Apple trades at about 40 times earnings, a big premium to where it sat for most of the past few years.

The business is backing it up for now. Revenue rose 17% year over year in the fiscal second quarter, and earnings per share climbed 22%. But a year ago, investors could buy the same company for a much smaller premium. The below-price average is Wall Street's way of saying most of that improvement is now in the price.

Today's Change

%) $

-4.14

Current Price

$

321.75

The setup into July 30 That leaves next week's report carrying more weight than usual. Apple has scheduled its fiscal third-quarter results for Thursday, July 30. A 40-times-earnings multiple on a company sitting 4% from its record high leaves little cushion if growth cools.

There are reasons to expect the growth to hold. The company's recent momentum has been broad. iPhone revenue hit $57 billion in the March quarter, a record for the period and up 22% year over year, and the high-margin services business set an all-time revenue record of its own.

And Apple keeps adding potential catalysts. A reported device-leasing program with Klarna is reportedly set to launch on July 28 -- a move that could nudge iPhone revenue toward steadier, subscription-like behavior.

With that said, investors shouldn't count on the report to deliver another leg higher. When the average analyst target sits below the price, good news mostly confirms what's already priced in, while any wobble invites the stock to close the gap with the models. Apple doesn't need to disappoint for the stock to stall. It just needs to be ordinary for a quarter.

As for what I'd do, I wouldn't treat a below-price average target as a sell signal. Analyst targets chase the stock in both directions, and Apple remains one of the highest-quality businesses in the world, with staying power that's difficult to find anywhere else. It's a stock I'd continue holding for the long haul, and I'd still call it a top stock to buy and hold -- in moderation -- even at today's premium.

But the flat consensus is useful as a temperature check. It says the easy stretch of this run is probably over, and that returns from here likely have to be earned by the business quarter after quarter, because the valuation multiple has already done its expanding. Going into July 30, that's worth keeping in mind before expecting fireworks.

Apple to Add Virtual Shopping Assistant to App Store
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
By PYMNTS  |  July 23, 2026

 |

Apple appears to be preparing a virtual shopping assistant for its App Store.

Although no official announcement has been made, a report Wednesday (July 22) from the website Apple Insider pointed to a passage in the company’s App Store privacy policy suggesting that a new feature—similar to the Apple Support Assistant—could be implemented soon.

As the report noted, the policy mentions Virtual Shopping Assistant, what data it collects, and a specific setting toggle that doesn’t yet exist within the Apple Store app. The Apple Store app was updated on July 22, but there is no sign of this new AI chat tool.

“Where the Apple Store app virtual shopping assistant is available, Apple collects and stores your account information, device identifiers, carrier information, chat information, and where enabled, location data to personalize the chat experience, provide relevant responses, and if you opt in, to improve the virtual shopping assistant,” the policy said.

The new tool is happening at a moment when AI-powered shopping assistants have become a top priority for retailers, according to recent PYMNTS Intelligence research.

The report “Global Digital Shopping Index: The AI-Powered Shopper Has Arrived,” commissioned by Visa Acceptance Solutions, found that these assistants were the most frequently cited digital capability merchants plan to invest in during the next three years, named by 37% of retailers.

“The increase has coincided with reduced emphasis on several features that became standard components of digital commerce, such as merchant support for cross-channel shopping, stored payment methods and mobile apps,” PYMNTS wrote earlier this month. “The changes do not necessarily mean that retailers are abandoning these capabilities. Instead, they suggest merchants are becoming more selective about where they devote development budgets and personnel.”

This changing allocation of resources is in line with larger shifts seen in consumer behavior, the report said, with nearly half (47%) of online shoppers using some type of AI during their most recent purchase.

Consumers used the technology to compare products, research purchases and find product information before making a transaction. Meanwhile 64% of consumers said they expect to use AI shopping agents within the next two years.

“The adoption rates help explain why retailers are placing greater emphasis on AI,” PYMNTS wrote. “Product discovery has long influenced purchasing decisions, and AI is becoming another point where merchants compete for consumer attention.”

3 Things Investors Can Expect When Tim Cook Steps Down as CEO in September After 15 Years and Hands the Reins to John Ternus
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
After 15 years running Apple (AAPL -1.55%), Tim Cook will hand the CEO role to hardware chief John Ternus on Sept. 1, with Cook staying on as executive chairman. Ternus is a 25-year Apple veteran who helped launch the iPad and AirPods, so this is a carefully planned insider handoff, not a shake-up.

Here are three things Apple investors can reasonably expect from the leadership change.

1. Continuity, not a revolution Apple did not hire an outsider with a mandate to tear things up. Ternus has spent his entire career inside Apple, and Cook will remain as executive chairman to smooth the transition. Expect the strategy, the disciplined supply chain, and the capital-return program to carry on largely unchanged in the near term.

Cook is an operations master; Ternus is an engineer who ran hardware for the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Watch. That suggests a CEO with a sharper instinct for the products themselves, which could mean more aggressive bets on new hardware like foldable devices, smart glasses, and AI-infused gadgets.

2. Pressure to fix Apple's AI story This is the big one. Apple has been widely seen as lagging in artificial intelligence (AI), with Siri and Apple Intelligence both underwhelming users and investors. Ternus inherits the job of making Apple a credible AI player, likely by leaning on its strength in on-device AI and custom silicon. How he handles this will define his tenure.

%) $

-5.04

Current Price

3. Steady shareholder returns Don't expect the cash machine to slow down. Apple's massive buybacks and growing dividend should continue, and the real profit engine, its high-margin services business, keeps expanding. In the near term, watch iPhone gross margins, which some view as a key signal of financial health.

Ternus takes over with the stock near all-time highs, but that cuts both ways. Expectations are elevated, so every early decision and product launch will face intense scrutiny, and the share price could be volatile as investors judge whether he can innovate or merely maintain. New CEOs are rarely given much patience.

The takeaway for investors The handoff from Cook to Ternus looks about as smooth as a leadership change at a multitrillion-dollar company can be, which should reassure long-term shareholders. The real questions are about the future, not the transition: Can Ternus close Apple's AI gap and reignite hardware innovation, while protecting the margins and cash returns that investors prize?

I would treat September as the start of a show-me period rather than a reason to buy or sell, and judge the new CEO by his products, not his first press release.

Apple (AAPL) Earnings Expected to Grow: Should You Buy?
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Wall Street expects a year-over-year increase in earnings on higher revenues when Apple (AAPL - Free Report) reports results for the quarter ended June 2026. While this widely-known consensus outlook is important in gauging the company's earnings picture, a powerful factor that could impact its near-term stock price is how the actual results compare to these estimates.

The earnings report, which is expected to be released on July 30, might help the stock move higher if these key numbers are better than expectations. On the other hand, if they miss, the stock may move lower.

While management's discussion of business conditions on the earnings call will mostly determine the sustainability of the immediate price change and future earnings expectations, it's worth having a handicapping insight into the odds of a positive EPS surprise.

Zacks Consensus EstimateThis maker of iPhones, iPads and other products is expected to post quarterly earnings of $1.88 per share in its upcoming report, which represents a year-over-year change of +19.8%.

Revenues are expected to be $108.79 billion, up 15.7% from the year-ago quarter.

Estimate Revisions TrendThe consensus EPS estimate for the quarter has been revised 0.49% higher over the last 30 days to the current level. This is essentially a reflection of how the covering analysts have collectively reassessed their initial estimates over this period.

Investors should keep in mind that an aggregate change may not always reflect the direction of estimate revisions by each of the covering analysts.

Price, Consensus and EPS Surprise

Earnings WhisperEstimate revisions ahead of a company's earnings release offer clues to the business conditions for the period whose results are coming out. This insight is at the core of our proprietary surprise prediction model -- the Zacks Earnings ESP (Expected Surprise Prediction).

The Zacks Earnings ESP compares the Most Accurate Estimate to the Zacks Consensus Estimate for the quarter; the Most Accurate Estimate is a more recent version of the Zacks Consensus EPS estimate. The idea here is that analysts revising their estimates right before an earnings release have the latest information, which could potentially be more accurate than what they and others contributing to the consensus had predicted earlier.

Thus, a positive or negative Earnings ESP reading theoretically indicates the likely deviation of the actual earnings from the consensus estimate. However, the model's predictive power is significant for positive ESP readings only.

A positive Earnings ESP is a strong predictor of an earnings beat, particularly when combined with a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), 2 (Buy) or 3 (Hold). Our research shows that stocks with this combination produce a positive surprise nearly 70% of the time, and a solid Zacks Rank actually increases the predictive power of Earnings ESP.

Please note that a negative Earnings ESP reading is not indicative of an earnings miss. Our research shows that it is difficult to predict an earnings beat with any degree of confidence for stocks with negative Earnings ESP readings and/or Zacks Rank of 4 (Sell) or 5 (Strong Sell).

How Have the Numbers Shaped Up for Apple? For Apple, the Most Accurate Estimate is higher than the Zacks Consensus Estimate, suggesting that analysts have recently become bullish on the company's earnings prospects. This has resulted in an Earnings ESP of +2.46%.

On the other hand, the stock currently carries a Zacks Rank of #3.

So, this combination indicates that Apple will most likely beat the consensus EPS estimate.

Does Earnings Surprise History Hold Any Clue? While calculating estimates for a company's future earnings, analysts often consider to what extent it has been able to match past consensus estimates. So, it's worth taking a look at the surprise history for gauging its influence on the upcoming number.

For the last reported quarter, it was expected that Apple would post earnings of $1.92 per share when it actually produced earnings of $2.01, delivering a surprise of +4.69%.

Over the last four quarters, the company has beaten consensus EPS estimates four times.

Bottom LineAn earnings beat or miss may not be the sole basis for a stock moving higher or lower. Many stocks end up losing ground despite an earnings beat due to other factors that disappoint investors. Similarly, unforeseen catalysts help a number of stocks gain despite an earnings miss.

That said, betting on stocks that are expected to beat earnings expectations does increase the odds of success. This is why it's worth checking a company's Earnings ESP and Zacks Rank ahead of its quarterly release. Make sure to utilize our Earnings ESP Filter to uncover the best stocks to buy or sell before they've reported.

Apple appears a compelling earnings-beat candidate. However, investors should pay attention to other factors too for betting on this stock or staying away from it ahead of its earnings release.

As Wall Street Cuts Tesla, Morgan Stanley Raises Its Apple Target
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Wall Street is cutting Tesla after a bruising earnings miss, while Apple’s analyst community quietly nudges targets higher on a surging iPhone 17 cycle. Our proprietary model reflects that divergence.

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL | AAPL Price Prediction) closed at $325.89 on July 22, and the 24/7 Wall St. price target for Apple is $361.72, implying 11% upside over the next 12 months. Our recommendation is a buy at a 90% confidence level.

24/7 Wall St. Price Target Summary Metric Value Current Price $325.89 24/7 Wall St. Price Target $361.72 Upside 11.0% Recommendation BUY Confidence Level 90% An iPhone 17 Cycle That Keeps Surprising to the Upside Apple shares are up 20.1% year to date, 9.72% in the last month, and 52.61% over the trailing year.

Fiscal Q2 2026 revenue climbed 16.6% year over year to $111.18 billion, EPS came in at $2.01 versus $1.94 expected, and iPhone revenue surged to $56.99 billion on what Tim Cook called “extraordinary demand for iPhone 17 lineup.”

Services set an all-time record at $30.98 billion. Bloomberg reports Apple is preparing a major Mac refresh this fall including its first OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro, and prediction markets price a 96.6% probability that an iPhone 18 launches in 2026.

The Case for $380 and Higher Apple’s installed base of over 2.5 billion active devices becomes the launchpad for a Services business compounding at double-digit rates, a paid Apple Intelligence tier, and a rumored foldable iPhone (prediction markets assign 88.5% odds of a foldable arriving before 2027).

Layer on a fresh $100 billion buyback authorization and expanding operating margins, and our internal bull case lands at $378.01, a 16% one-year return. That aligns with the AI-driven Mac refresh narrative.

What Could Go Wrong Apple lost a $634 million Masimo patent verdict appeal, Greater China revenue remains lumpy, and tariff escalation would hit component supply. The consensus analyst target of $318.25 sits below the current price.

Act now: the analyst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just named his top 10 AI stocks — and Apple didn't make the cut. Grab the names FREE today.

Our bear case pegs Apple at $307.39, a 5.68% pullback. Insider activity has been net selling. The P/E ratio of 43 looks stretched only if you ignore that quarterly earnings just grew 21.8%, which arguably justifies the multiple.

How Apple Stacks Up Against Tesla and Microsoft Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) just missed Q2 EPS at $0.33 versus $0.54 expected, printed negative $1.09 billion in free cash flow, and trades at a forward P/E of 161 versus Apple’s 34. Tesla is down 16.83% year to date while Apple is up 20%. That valuation gap makes our Apple target look conservative on a growth-adjusted basis.

Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) is the truer valuation peer, a scaled valuation peer with a diversified AI-driven software portfolio. Apple carries the richer multiple, but its 46.9% gross margin and Services flywheel support the premium. Against this peer set, our $361.72 target reads as reasonable.

Company Forward P/E YTD Return Apple 34 20.1% Tesla 161 -16.83% The Bull Case Framework for Apple The 24/7 Wall St. price target for Apple is $361.72, a buy at 90% confidence. Earnings acceleration of 21.8% YoY growth into an installed base of 2.5 billion devices is rare at this market cap.

I would buy if iPhone 17 momentum carries into a strong holiday quarter and Services stays above $30 billion. I would stay on the sidelines if China revenue weakens materially or tariffs hit margins.

Year 24/7 Wall St. Price Target 2026 $361.72 These projections assume Apple executes on Services growth and the iPhone upgrade cycle. Significant upside or downside could result from a foldable iPhone launch, Apple Intelligence monetization, or a China revenue reset.

Is Apple Stock a Buy Right Now?
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News

Apple's (AAPL -1.55%) measured approach to artificial intelligence (AI), avoiding spending massive amounts of capital in this area like its big tech peers, appears to be a winning strategy from the market's point of view. Shares have climbed 22% in 2026 (as of July 20). They trade in record territory.

Should investors buy this "Magnificent Seven" stock right now?

Investors might want to think twice about purchasing this business. That's because Apple shares aren't cheap.

The current price-to-earnings ratio of 39.5, which is near an 18-year high, indicates heightened investor enthusiasm. This adds greater downside risk should the business report financial results that disappoint investors.

The market clearly has a favorable view of this company, though. Apple's financial performance has been superb. It reported 16.6% year-over-year revenue growth in Q2 2026 (ended March 28), with diluted earnings per share rising 21.8%. Demand for the latest iPhone 17 family has been off the charts, supporting the powerful ecosystem that drives customer stickiness.

Perhaps most importantly, Apple has stayed away from the unprecedented capital expenditure (capex) cycle that's defining the AI boom. Its capex totaled just $4.3 billion in the first six months of fiscal 2026.

Consequently, free cash flow remains robust. This gives the leadership team the ability to continue returning incredible amounts of capital to shareholders, primarily through stock buybacks.

Investors should keep Apple on their watch list, but wait for a better valuation.

Apple Could Seize a Quarter of the Foldable Phone Market in Year One
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Apple Entry Set To Intensify CompetitionCounterpoint forecasts global foldable smartphone shipments will grow 21% year over year in 2026, driven by demand for premium book-style devices, broader vendor competition and Apple’s expected foldable iPhone launch.

The research firm expects Samsung Electronics to retain the top position with a 32% market share, down from 40% in 2025. Apple is projected to capture a 25% share in its first year, while Huawei is expected to hold 24%. Motorola, and HONOR are forecast to account for 8% and 3%, respectively.

Samsung Still Holds The EdgeCounterpoint Associate Director Liz Lee said 2026 will mark a turning point for the foldable smartphone market as Apple’s arrival expands consumer awareness and raises competition in the premium segment.

“2026 will mark a new phase for the foldable smartphone market. Apple’s entry is expected to lift overall consumer awareness and raise the benchmark for premium foldables, but Samsung still has a clear advantage in product maturity, channel reach and foldable user experience,” Lee said.

Lee added that Samsung’s upcoming wider foldable design could improve multitasking and AI-assisted workflows by offering more usable screen space, helping the company maintain an edge despite Apple’s entry.

AI Could Drive Foldable AdoptionCounterpoint said larger displays are becoming more important as artificial intelligence assistants evolve beyond chatbots into tools that summarize documents, edit content, manage schedules and perform tasks across multiple applications. Wider foldable devices could therefore become increasingly attractive for productivity-focused users.

The firm expects Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event to be an important catalyst for the category, with Samsung anticipated to unveil the Galaxy Z8 Flip, Galaxy Z8 Fold and a wider book-style foldable device ahead of Apple’s expected market entry.

AAPL Price Action: Apple shares were down 0.53% at $324.16 during premarket trading on Thursday. The stock is approaching its 52-week high of $334.99, according to Benzinga Pro data.

Apple Is Reportedly Launching a Device-Leasing Program With Klarna on July 28. Here's What It Means for iPhone Revenue.
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Apple (AAPL -0.44%) is preparing to launch a device-leasing program called Apple Upgrade in the U.S. on July 28, Bloomberg reported this week. If the report is right, the program could push the tech company's biggest revenue line, the iPhone, toward faster upgrades and steadier, more subscription-like sales.

The reported structure works much like a car lease. Klarna (KLAR -6.02%) would provide the financing, enrollment would involve a soft credit check, and leases would reportedly run 24 months for iPhone and Apple Watch and 36 months for Mac and iPad. During a term, customers could pay the device off early or upgrade to a newer model. At the end of one, they could keep the device or return it.

The program would reportedly replace new enrollments in Apple's existing upgrade and financing options, though some lower-priced models wouldn't be eligible for it (including the iPhone 16, the entry-level iPad, and the Apple Watch SE). AppleCare coverage would no longer be included automatically.

This could be material for Apple's business.

The first effect is upgrade frequency. A lease with a built-in upgrade path tends to shorten the replacement cycle, and every shortened cycle means more device sales per customer over time. That matters most for the iPhone, which generated $57 billion of revenue in the March quarter, up 22% year over year and a record for the period. Leasing is a way to keep that momentum going after the iPhone 17's blockbuster run.

Leasing could also smooth out demand cycles. Customers on standard two- and three-year terms can upgrade on a schedule rather than waiting for a hardware overhaul, ultimately making iPhone revenue less dependent on any single product cycle landing perfectly.

And notably, Apple gets all of this without becoming a lender. Because Klarna would provide the financing, Apple keeps the customer relationship and the upgrade cadence while a partner carries the credit risk.

Of course, the company hasn't said any of this publicly yet, and reported plans can change. But Apple's fiscal third-quarter earnings report is scheduled for July 30 -- two days after the program's reported launch date, and management will likely face questions about what leasing means for the business. July 28 -- when Klarna and Apple are expected to roll out this program -- may start providing answers. And July 30 could finish the job.

Apple Plans To Overhaul Computers to Meet AI Demand
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
By PYMNTS  |  July 22, 2026

 |

Apple reportedly wants to overhaul its Mac line as consumers seek artificial intelligence (AI)-powered computers.

The company plans to introduce new versions of every Mac product it sells, Bloomberg News reported Wednesday (July 22), citing unnamed sources with knowledge of the matter.

This will include long-awaited updates to the company’s desktops, several laptops and a revamped version of the MacBook Pro, all scheduled to roll out this fall and into 2027, the sources said.

The launches will begin with an updated low-end 14-inch MacBook Pro that will be among the first Macs to include a new M6 chip and the first new iMacs in two years, the sources added.

PYMNTS has contacted Apple for comment but has not yet received a reply.

Bloomberg noted that the Mac has seen a resurgence of late, with sales forecast to increase for the third straight year. These devices have become popular with people who run computing-intensive AI agents. At the same time, a dearth of memory chips strained manufacturing, causing Apple to increase prices, the report added.

Supply issues are such that new orders on some Mac mini and Mac Studio models won’t ship for at least three months, the report said, challenging Apple to introduce new models with its usual level of inventory, the report said.

Apple CEO Tim Cook had said in April that he thinks it could take “several months” for those machines to achieve supply demand balance, Bloomberg added. Apple raised prices on several products—though not its iPhone—in June.

A report earlier this month by Kiplinger said those price increases could lead to a years-long era of costlier electronics. Cook has blamed the price hikes on soaring memory chip costs, saying he’s never experienced anything like it in 40 years.

“We’re doing our best to mitigate the huge increases that are being passed to us, and we’ve been trying to shield our customers from the increases, but the situation has become unsustainable,” Cook told the Wall Street Journal last month.

Bloomberg had reported Tuesday (July 21) that the company was readying a leasing program known as Apple Upgrade. Set to launch next week, this service will reportedly support most iPhone, Mac, iPad and Apple Watch models and work like a subscription.

“Users can pay off devices early in their term, upgrade earlier to newer models, or keep the original device until the leasing period ends,” PYMNTS wrote in a report on the program. “As with a car lease, the device could be returned when the term is up.”

Can Alphabet Set the Tone for Mag 7 Earnings?
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Alphabet (GOOGL) reports earnings this afternoon, and expectations are high. Consensus estimates call for revenue of $101.28 billion, representing 23.9% year-over-year growth, and earnings of $2.87 per share, a 24.2% increase from the prior-year period.

Last year marked a breakout period for Alphabet, as its vertically integrated ecosystem of proprietary hardware, software and large language models pushed Gemini toward the leading edge of the AI race. That progress was accompanied by blistering growth in the company’s cloud business.

Year to date, however, Alphabet appears to have lost some momentum in model development and is no longer clearly keeping pace with the industry leaders, particularly Anthropic and OpenAI.

Even so, the underlying business remains strong. Search, YouTube and Google Cloud have all shown accelerating growth, reinforcing the durability of Alphabet’s core operations. Among the Magnificent Seven, GOOGL currently sits near the middle of the pack this year, modestly outperforming the S&P 500.

I should also note that I am excluding Tesla from my Magnificent Seven comparison. Tesla is undoubtedly a strong company, but I do not believe it currently belongs in the same fundamental category as the rest of the group. The other six businesses generally combine compelling economics, strong growth forecasts, secular tailwinds, reasonable valuations and durable competitive advantages. Tesla, by contrast, has produced more moderate growth, trades at an exceptionally rich valuation and operates in a highly competitive industry, and thus is not quite the same caliber of business.

The Mixed Performance Among Magnificent Seven StocksEach company in the group has faced a distinct set of challenges, opportunities and investor narratives, producing widely different performance this year.

Apple ((AAPL - Free Report) ) has been the standout performer. As concerns about hyperscaler overspending have come to dominate the AI narrative, Apple has benefited from its comparatively limited capital expenditures on data centers. It also controls one of the world’s most valuable pieces of digital real estate, serving as a primary gateway through which consumers can access leading AI models and applications. That unique position has attracted significant investor interest this year.

Apple currently trades at 37.4x forward earnings. Sales are expected to grow 15.1% this year and 8.2% next year, while earnings are projected to increase 13.2% annually over the long term.

Nvidia ((NVDA - Free Report) ) remains the central pillars of the AI boom. Its GPUs provide the critical computing infrastructure behind the development and deployment of advanced AI models. Nvidia also benefits from a relatively capital-light business model, designing its chips while outsourcing manufacturing to semiconductor foundries.

The stock trades at 22.8x forward earnings, near the low end of its historical range. Revenue is projected to rise 79.6% this year and 39.7% next year, while earnings are expected to grow 58.3% annually over the next three to five years.

Amazon ((AMZN - Free Report) ) is leading the group in capital spending, with approximately $200 billion in planned expenditures this year, much of it dedicated to expanding its data center infrastructure. Amazon Web Services has continued to accelerate as AI usage grows, while the company is also building out its own custom-chip business to support both its internal operations and external customers.

Interestingly, Amazon has remained somewhat outside the center of the AI conversation over the past year despite its enormous infrastructure investments. The stock trades at 27.7x forward earnings, near its lowest historical valuation levels. Sales are projected to grow 15.3% this year and 13.1% next year, while earnings are expected to increase 17.3% annually over the long term.

Meta Platforms ((META - Free Report) ) has experienced a more volatile ride. In typical Zuckerberg fashion, the company has committed aggressively to its newest strategic priority, spending billions on acquisitions, large compensation packages for leading AI researchers and a massive expansion of its data center footprint. Meta now ranks second among the hyperscalers in capital expenditures, with an estimated $125 billion to $145 billion planned this year.

At the same time, Meta’s efforts to compete at the leading edge of large language model development have produced mixed results. While its strategy has occasionally appeared less coherent than those of its peers, the company’s enormous infrastructure buildout may now be opening a new opportunity.

With vast computing capacity but less differentiated model technology, Meta has begun selling access to its data center infrastructure through its emerging Meta Compute business. That could create an entirely new revenue vertical for a company that has historically relied overwhelmingly on advertising. Execution will be critical, but I am interested to see the early financial contribution from this business.

Meta trades at 19.5x forward earnings, near the low end of its historical range. Sales are expected to grow 26% this year and 20% next year, while long-term earnings growth is projected at 20.1% annually.

Microsoft ((MSFT - Free Report) ) has been the clear laggard. Despite its partnership with OpenAI and its extensive portfolio of productivity software, the company has struggled to translate its early AI advantage into compelling product adoption and monetization. Microsoft was also caught in the broader software selloff, driven by concerns that generative AI could disrupt many established software business models.

The stock trades at 20.6x forward earnings. Sales are projected to grow 16.9% this year and 15.9% next year, while long-term earnings are expected to increase 16.9% annually.

What Comes Next for Alphabet and the Magnificent Seven?Broadly speaking, the Magnificent Seven have lagged behind the strongest parts of the AI trade this year, particularly semiconductors and other infrastructure-oriented stocks. That leadership has been unusually narrow, however, and many of those names have recently undergone sharp corrections.

Against that backdrop, the Magnificent Seven now appear increasingly attractive. The group combines reasonable valuations, strong earnings growth and continued leadership across the most important areas of the digital economy.

The key variable remains investor sentiment toward AI infrastructure spending. Markets are increasingly questioning whether hyperscalers can generate sufficient returns on the enormous sums being committed to data centers, chips and model development. So long as those concerns remain contained, I believe the group is positioned for stronger performance into year-end.

The quarterly results themselves are often less surprising than the market reaction suggests. These companies generally manage expectations carefully and tend to issue conservative guidance, though unexpected developments are always possible.

Unless one of the companies delivers a truly unusual report, I expect the market’s broader interpretation of AI spending, monetization and returns on investment to matter more than any single quarter’s headline numbers.

The Risk in Apple's Stock That Nobody Is Talking About
AAPL Apple
FMP Stock News
Original source text
Apple (AAPL -0.44%) stock has quietly been one of 2026's top-performing stocks. It's up around 20% so far this year, outperforming many other big tech peers. In fact, it isn't that far away from retaking the title of world's largest company from Nvidia (NVDA +2.39%). Currently, Nvidia is a $4.9 trillion company, while Apple sits at $4.8 trillion. However, there's a hidden risk with Apple's stock that nobody is talking about: valuation.

Most of Apple's share price growth in recent years has come from investors being willing to pay more for its sales and earnings, not from actual improvements in its business performance. This could be a major issue, because Apple may have some emerging problems on its hands.

Apple's stock is expensive Apple has a track record of being one of the most consistently performing companies in the market, which should earn its shares a bit of a premium price tag. However, how much is too much? Apple shares trade for nearly 40 times trailing earnings, and 37 times forward earnings.

AAPL PE Ratio data by YCharts.

For comparison, the S&P 500 (^GSPC -0.14%) trades at 25.5 times trailing earnings and 21.5 times forward earnings. That means from a forward earnings standpoint, investors are paying nearly twice as much for Apple as they are for the average stock. Those are huge expectations to live up to, and there are reasons for investors to worry about whether it can.

Apple is about to face one of its biggest crises in recent memory: soaring commodity prices. The data center build-out has eaten up the production capacities of many of the companies that also make components for Apple's products. For example, there's now a shortage of memory chips, and their prices have soared dramatically as a result.

To compensate for its higher costs, Apple may have no choice but to start raising its iPhone prices, which may be poorly received among a consumer base that's already stretched financially thin. This could make maintaining margins difficult. Meanwhile, the company is also dealing with poor sales growth. The combination of all these factors may cause Apple's profits to fall, which would make Apple's already-pricey stock look even more expensive.

I think this is a precarious setup for shareholders. Apple's stock is priced for perfection in a business where the environment is starting to worsen. There are many big tech stocks that are growing faster than Apple and trading at premiums far lower.

Take Nvidia, for example. The peak of the AI build-out still hasn't hit yet, and the chipmaker is still growing its revenue at an 85% year-over-year pace and trading at just 22.6 times forward earnings. Apple's stock has gotten far too expensive, and it's a risk that investors must know about, because they could get burned.
